What will do by the world. It is your girl,
the one and only Ash Brown, and this is the
Ash Said It show. Over two thousand episodes, half a
million streams around the world. None of this is possible
without you, guys. So I thank you so so very much.
The shares the cares makes a huge difference. Today, my

(00:25):
guest is none other than the lovely Rachel from Skewed
Orbit Studios here in the atl Hey Rachel, how are you?
I am great? How are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:39):
I'm good.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I'm excited to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Thank you so much for making time in your schedule. So,
I mean, it's Skewed Orbit, you know, it isn't just
like one thing. It's a stand up venue, it's a
hub for creators. It's a home to the Wild Confessional Show.
So what would did you say was the driving force
behind creating a single space in Atlanta that nurtures so

(01:06):
many different forms of comedy and creativity.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
That's a great question. You know.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
The first thing I think.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Is just because that's how my brain works, you know,
like there's there's just a lot of different things that
I like to create and do, and so it's one
of those things of like if it doesn't exist, then
it's the perfect.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Thing for you to create.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
And also, I think that even as consumers, we're looking
for different touch points.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
We want to be able to go and.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Last, but we also want a space that we.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
Can go and commune with other.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Podcasters or creators or just network within our field. And
so we really thought, well, what if our niche is
just that, you know, we're three sixty, that we you know,
are kind of a three sixty creative agency, and it's
all in one location.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
And I think for me, I'm from Atlanta, Yeah, and
then I.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Was in Chicago for eleven years and then LA for
eight before we moved back, and I think I was
just so excited to come back and there's so much
happening in Atlanta that we really wanted to create a
space that is a creative melting pot for everyone to
feel represented, seeing that they can come and participate.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
And really a space that we can truly be creative.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Yes, yes, I feel like you all have a sense
of your own community there, which I love. I feel
like that is such an authentic approach, and then it
just builds, like you know, you guys are a family.
It's community, it's family. So I love seeing that.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah, Now your monthly show, Repent is built on comedians
sharing hilarious true secrets quote unquote. With that giving too
much away, what is the most unexpectedly twisted direction that
A Night of Confessions has taken?

Speaker 2 (03:09):
There?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Mostly it's the confessions from the audience.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Oh, you know.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Like we have comics that that really are they're telling.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
A story that is a secret they have not told before.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
And most of it is a storytelling in the.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
You know, form of a confession.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
And then we have audience members can they can share
their truth So we have a bucket and you can
write something down.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
So completely enought of this, but you can still tell
your secrets even if.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
You're on a first date or you know, you're just
like hitching to get this secret out, you can. You
can write it down and throw it in the bucket
and uh.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
And then we kind.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Of picked through a few and improvise on them and
it's it's.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
So funny and fun for us, where like the audience loves.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
It and I'm like, oh no, no, this is also
did not know that this is going to happen tonight.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
So we're all in this together.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I love it so does does any instance come to
mind when when we talk about that anything particularly stick out.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Lots of people accidentally killing their friend's pets. Oh my god,
I know that.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
I know that's dark, but like, uh, you know, if
I was like, oh I had to watch like there
they're fish, or oh I was going.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
To feed your cat, and like some hijinks or something
goes crazy, and I was like, what's up with this
audience here? There's like too many at this point of
these open secrets where I was.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Like, oh, I accidentally, you know, had a hand in
one of my friend's pets passing away.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I was like, I don't know what's up with this
audience tonight.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
But yeah, it's never a null moment.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
That is hilarious. Oh my gods. And you also host
a free creator meetup with parks like a raffle for
studio time, which is an incredible value to anyone out there.
As we well know, studio time is not free and
it's not cheap to get a quality studio. So why

(05:09):
why was it so important for you to not just
to provide a stage, but also you know, actively invest
into the growth of these artists.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Oh well, I think I was a broke artist for
a really long time, and I'm really invested in creating
a new narrative that is, you don't have to be
artistic and broke, you don't have to be a creator
and broke, and that there's a lot of ways even
if that doesn't mean maybe you're not making all your
money as a creator right now. I think like reclaiming

(05:44):
that you can be both empowered and you know, like
got some money in the bank and also working on
your art is so valuable to me because they tell people,
I'm like, we need creatives rested, we need you said,
we need you well, and so really opening up our
doors so that we can have a hand in some

(06:04):
small part and providing more resources and spaces and connections
for people.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
That's a big thing for me because I see creators.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
All the time that are so hungry for opportunities and
they want to come in, and I really feel like
our job is just to connect creators in that way,
whether that's to each other or to brands that we
have collaborations with through affiliate codes. And this is just
an easy way where it's like, hey man, you're already
going to show up to this free creator event you're

(06:36):
going to get to meet people, but you're also making content.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
While you're here.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
So there you go, you already have your content that
you can post tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
And then that way, it's like others are your name
and that you know, and.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Then you have this this space that you can utilize
for so many things.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
And I think again that's.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
A great thing about our space is that there's a
lot of functionality to it.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
So I tell people all the time, I'm like, hey,
it's your studio time. You want to host a workshop that.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
You've been trying to host.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
There you go, there's grief space for a few hours
you just want.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
To make, you know, a new YouTube series, like you
can start working on that. So it also lends itself
to a lot of different options for creators.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, I absolutely love that, and that just it helps
them much because you know, I also know, being a
struggling artist from back in the day, you know, just
every little bit counts, you know, and trying to get in,
getting studio time, getting you know, being able to barter
and you know, network with your network. You know, they
always say your network is your net worth, you know,

(07:39):
And I feel like that is a really big part
of it that hopefully more people start to understand that
better and you know, utilizing the resources around them.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
So yeah, absolutely absolutely. I mean I always say, like
what I'm seeking and seeking or you know, what you
are seeking and seeking? You a lot of times where
it's like, oh I need this thing and I'm never
going to be able to find it.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
It's like, or you'll be the solution that someone else.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Is looking for. And I think it's just that perspective shift,
it's that energetic shift in the intention of what we're wanting.
And you know, I've even found so much in that
way of just having our.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Space too where I'm like, you know, and I have to.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Remind people that of like why I also need all
of you to be able to enrich this space as well.
So it's not even just us having the space, but
it's also needing creators and entrepreneurs and brands that are
seeking an actual physical space so that our relationship becomes reciprocal.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah. Absolutely, that's a really big part of it. And
the studio has a very intimate, byob atmosphere, which is
very different from quote unquote traditional comedy clubs. So what
kind of vibe are you trying to create for someone
visiting for the very first time.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
I really wanted to feel like an upscale house party.
Like we we really work hard. Like I think one
of the things that I like to brag about just
for other people is like when people walk through our doors,
I can tell that everyone's like, shoulders relax, Like they
literally walk in and they're like ah, which is what

(09:23):
I want people to do. I want them to be
able to come in and forget about whatever has happened
up until them walking in the door. I want it
to be a space where people can actually reset, relax,
enjoy themselves. So you know, we have a lot of
different seating areas for people. We really have it set
up where you know, my husband and I are both
comedians by trade.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
I mean that's what we've done.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
That was our living for many many years up until
we started Skew.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Doorbit, and so you know, we've done comedy in every
space possible. I tell people that all the time, and like, so,
what's really intimate about watching.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Comedy in our space is it's we've created a room
to watch and enjoy comedy or live performance in general.
From the perspective of people that have been performing in
all of these different spaces, so it's really intimate. We
use a lot of fun lighting. We always have great
again with all the different collaborators that we have coming in,

(10:17):
so there's always like one to two different sponsors every month.
So sometimes there's free food, there's free drink, there's always
something going on. And then I mean myself personally, I
love like a byob situation. You can bring what you want.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
We've got a fun snackshack that we have set up.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
We've always got fresh platforn so it really creates a
fun environment. We've had one couple has come every single month.
It's like one of the things that they do, like
as they're date night and they've come every single month.
So that's really the atmosphere that we want to create
for people is something that feels familiar but different.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Yes, yes, wow, and that's definitely different, definitely welcomed and
so kudos to you and you're Heavy and everyone else
that's been helping to push forward this message and this vibe.
I love it and thank you. Your calendar, I'm sure
is jam packed with recurring events. All kinds of things

(11:17):
are going on.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
You know.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Now we're in July, So what can we people look
forward to from you guys this July and pretty much
all summer.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
So every month we have Repent, which is our secret
comedy show that we talked about as a storytelling format.
That we have Satellite Comedy which is the third Friday
of every month and that features the best local comedians
here in Atlanta, and then we pop in from New
York in LA. So those are our two super fun
comedy shows. And then we are going to be adding

(11:49):
a new comedy show called Chat Lol. And so it's
all prompts from Chat GVT, but it will be live
improvised jokes, crowd work and jokes that these comedians are
coming up with in the moment based off of these
prompts from Chat GVT. So that's gonna be rolling out
which will be a lot of fun called Chat Lol.

(12:11):
And then each month we feature different workshops, so we
do for UGC creators. We have UGC workshops. We work
with Riverstock FM, which is one of the biggest podcasting platforms,
and we do podcasting kind of gatherings and we have
different panels of podcasting.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Experts that come in. So we're always.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Looking to give back to creators in that way through
quick and dirty workshops.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
I don't need you to come all day, which you'll come.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
You'll get some really valuable information. And then again there's
always a networking component. And then we're really excited myself
and another she's an author, an entrepreneur. Her name is
Lashawana West and she has this incredible new book coming
out called Healing While Building, and her and I are
doing on July twenty six. This is I think we've

(13:01):
got about nine spots left and it's called Locked In
Lab and we are going to be workshopping. This is
for entrepreneurs and creators that are really in the season
right now where they like.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Want to lock into what they're.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Doing, whether that's through their messaging, their marketing, their internal
like internal systems and worlds and strategy of what they're doing.
It may not even be an external thing yet, but
that is.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Going to be about a five hour day with some
of some.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Really great leaders and creators in Atlanta that are already
pad it's locked.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
In for the event, but you know, yeah, check check the.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Calendar every month. We're normally pretty good about getting all
of the events out too.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
To three months in advance. This is a really fun
pivot month where.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
We've got a lot of new collaborations that are coming in.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
So even if you're listening to this.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
And you're like, well, I have this great collab idea
reach out, we would absolutely love to hear what you're
up to and see what kind of magic we can make.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Yes, and where do people need to go if they
want to get some more information? They want to follow
you guys, what's the deal with that?

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Yes, yes, you can't not find us.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
We are all over the internet, So you can go
old fashion and check out.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Our website that is at skewed Orbit Studios dot com.
That is s k e w Ed Orbitstudios dot com.
And then you can also same name skewed Orbit Studios
on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. We're everywhere.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Sounds like the plan, Rachel, Well, thank you so much
for coming through. We so appreciate you, especially anytime I'll
get to highlight a local Atlanta business. I love doing it.
That's one of my favorite things.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Yeah, so thank you for having me this.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
This was great. I was catching up on the pod
and I was like, oh my gosh, there are so
many like.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Just like amazing entrepreneurs and.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
And people that you've had come through.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
So I really appreciate you taking the time to get
to know our business and giving us the opportunity and.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Yeah, which is really great to connect.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Thank you. And this is not a one and done Rachel.
So I definitely want you back on the show. I

year as we get in and through summer. I know
the calendar is full for summer and stuff, but I
definitely would love for you to come back and share
with us.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Yes, please, yes, please.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Sadly and I appreciate each and every one of you, guys,
Thank you so much for your love and support. Keeping
in mind. Anyone to tell you that you can't do
what you want to do, you look them square in
the face, you tell them, don't believe me. Just watch
watch what I do. Watch me make it happen, Watch
me make history. That's what we're doing this for the
history books. Social media is nice, but real life is
