What it is, what are doing by the world. It
is your girl, the one and only Ash Brown, and
this is the Ashes set it show over twenty one
hundred episode since twenty fourteen, half a million streams around
the world. And none of this is possible without you, guys,
the shares, the cares. It makes a huge difference. Today
(00:24):
we are talking for We're talking to the phenomenal inventor himself,
the wonderful Wayne from Hey, Wayne, Hi, how are you
doing today.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
I'm doing great, Thank you, thank you for having me
on your show.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
Yes, thank you so much for joining us.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Wayne.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I mean, you know, the inventor of the original selfie stick.
For those of you out there that have been you know,
getting all these you know, selfie sticks and you're going
places and traveling. This is the man that came up
with that wonderful invention.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Yeah, I'm the one to blame.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Oh we love it, We love it. Oh my goodness. Okay,
So a way, you know, from the selfie stick to
the Disney Magic talking mirror, you've created products that tap
into pop culture as phenomenons, all the different ones and
some would even say the different decades. So what's what's
(01:25):
the common thread that you follow to turn a cultural
trend into a tangible product.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
A very good question. I really tat my inner child
for the most part, thing that I would like or
would have liked. And the magic mirror was something I,
you know, started off as just something that you might
hold up to the sky. I thought, okay, you don't
have something that's a two way mirror material. You'll look
up and you'll see an image and trivial through this
(01:57):
hidden mirror. But then it became something more complex, digital voices.
I worked with the original actors on the animation, Jerry
Orbach and Robbie Benson and Angela Lansbury what not to become,
you know, an electronic digital toy that the kids could
push a button and it would talk and the character
imagers would light up. And then with the selfie stick.
(02:17):
It was basically something that I thought, you know, I
looked at all of my family photos and my dad
was never in the pictures. He was always the photographer,
and I thought, hey, you know, it would be so
nice if people could all be in the picture, no
one left out, and without having ask strangers or help
or whatnot. And that was the basically the genesis of
(02:38):
that it was more a lot of us. It has
to do with family or children, or entertainment or just
feel good. That's that's my driving force.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yes, and our buddy Snoopy celebrates his seventy fifth birthday
come October. Everyone's excited about that. And the Snoopy Magic
Mix combines the nostalgic charm with a practical, everyday function.
So what was the biggest challenge in bringing this product
(03:10):
to life?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Well, a lot I had to do with engineering. I
wanted it to appeal to not just appeal, but I
wanted it to be safe for all ages. So the
mandate was to come up with something that was functional,
had utility, could actually mix drinks, create a very strong
vortex in a cup, yet be safe for preschoolers. And
(03:34):
every engineer I spoke to said it impossible. Just go
for age six plus or go for age eight plus.
You're never going to get three plus. And I was determined,
And just one day I had this epiphany. I said, Okay,
I have an ideal gy test this. Let's see a
proof of concept. And I was able to create this
product that will spin at fifteen thousand rpm, which is
(03:55):
really fast. You know, it's like a milk father, But
we'll not turn on unless it's inside the cup and
there's no magnets. It's a kind of a magical way
that I have working and instants, even as young as
three year olds, they're mesmerized by this. They can take snoopy,
they hold it, they put snoopy into the cup and
(04:17):
it turns on automatically and magically, and they're watching it.
I look at their eyes. I study them. They're going
back and forth from snoopy down to the vortex, back
up to snoopy. Then they have empowerment. They are able
to take it out. It shuts off automatically as soon
as it comes out of the cup and then goes
back in. And as I said, there's no way to
turn it on unless it's in that cup. So it's
(04:39):
it's got the safety aspect, it's got the fascination the
magic element to it, and it's functional. It makes these
kids kids can make these frobby little drinks or chocolate
milk or milkshakes or you know, puddings or whatnot. It's
it's kind of unlimited.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Yes, I agree on that. I think it was very
smart and like you said, there uncommon to see a
product like this for kids three plus. So I was
very intrigued by that, and I was like, oh wow,
they really you guys really put put your foot into it,
you know, actually making that a functional product for toddlers.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Yes, yes, I think it's actually the world's first item
for a preschooler that is functional like this, and then
it has other accessories that come with it. It has
a sustainable, reusable straw that is easy to open it.
It's like a zip block and you can open it
without having to have a brush for easy cleaning. The
DPA Free Free cup. It's got detailed measurements on the
(05:38):
cup itself, so if the child wants to experiment and
learn more about measurements and you know, volume and all
sorts of stuff, then they can get into it. Comes
with a measuring spoon as well an ice cream scoop,
and then you know this straw so they can actually
drink after they've created you know, the concoction right.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
And many parents are actually using the mixer to discreetly
add vitamins and minerals for their kids' drinks. Did you
anticipate this was going to be an option too for families?
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. In fact, I worked with
some food scientists at for University. We were working on
different recipes and ingredients. So on our website, you know,
in the future, we're going to have more recipes that
people can have home instead of trying to sell something.
You know, a lot of toy products so to speak,
come with sugary, you know, unhealthy mixes. I wanted to
(06:35):
avoid that, so I deliberately did not include anything in
the food category with it. But people are encouraged, of course.
You know, one family's version of healthy is different than
another version another families versions. I let people experiment on
their own, but we do give them some guidelines. But sure,
I think it's great, you know, putting some vitamins and
(06:55):
minerals and you know, just let the kids have a healthy,
healthy drink at the same time as the experiment.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
To Yes, And everyone loves Snoopy. I mean, he's just
you know, he's been around for generations and generations, and
he's a character with such a rich history as NASA's
safety mascot and also like a huge symbol of adventure.
So what was your take, What is your take on
(07:25):
his cultural staying power.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
That's a good question. As a kid, I was a fan.
You know, I had Snoopy books. I went there with
a play called You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. I've
there's wisdom, there's the attitude, there's intellect, and he's just cute.
You know, even if little children don't know Snoopy, I
(07:52):
mean the great grandparents do, the grandparents do, the parents do.
But even if a child was not familiar with Snoopy,
he's adorable and that's that's engineering.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Yeah, he's the world's favorite beagle. I'm going to go
ahead and put that out there. I love Snooky. People
want to go ahead and get this amazing product for
their kid, their loved one. Hey, maybe even just for themselves.
Where do they need to go in.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
You can go to Amazon just the search for Snoopy
Magic Mixer. Also our website Shells Direct. It's a surly
Heads that's the name of the brand that I created,
So it's just surlyheads dot com. And in fact, if
they order off our website directly, they get a little
bonus travel lid. So it's got a small ten centimeter
(08:43):
millimeters spout for child terms's spouts. They can take it
in the lunch box as well. And you know, have
their drink on the go, so that's kind of an
added bonus that they go to the website direct. But
Amazon has the Snoopy Magic Mixer just without that extra picture.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Gotcha. Gotcha. Now, before you leave us today, Wayne, are
you working on anything else that maybe we can talk
about or maybe the ink's not dried yet, maybe we
can't talk about anything just yet. I have.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
I want to work on complimentary products for the mixer,
so there's going to be there is the Snoopy mixer,
of course, but you know I want to have, as
you mentioned, into that things that are vitamin enriched, minerals,
healthy products. So by playing around with some food powders
and liquids.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Yeah, okay, well, well definitely keep an eye out for that. Wayne. Definitely,
thank you so much for coming through. You got to
come back. I know that there's going to be updates,
there's going to be announcements. I would absolutely love for
you to come back and share that with us. Wayne,
certainly be my pleasure. And I appreciate each and every
(09:53):
one of you guys. Thank you so so very much
for all of your love and support. Keeping in mind
anyone to tell you that you can't do what you
want to do. You look them square in the face,
you tell them, don't believe me. Just watch watch what
I do, Watch me make it happen, Watch me make history.
That's what we're doing this for the history books. Social
(10:14):
media is nice, but real life is so much better.
Until next time, you guys,
