Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yes, So welcome to the Author Boss Podcast. Oh my gosh,
I'm so excited. I am so excited about this podcast
because I am gonna be bringing you the tips and
strategies on how to successfully create, build, scale a successful
author brand.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Alright.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
So I'm your host, Shannon Pasha Anderson, and today I
want to lay out the biggest mistakes that I see
authors make, and most recently I've stumbled upon, well not
really stumbled upon, but I've been doing this for a while,
and that is really really helping authors succeed from the
very beginning by creating successful launches. All Right, And this
(00:48):
is one of the biggest things that I've seen authors
struggle with time and time and time again. So I'm
gonna be laying out the strategies on how you can
create a successful launch be because one of the biggest
reasons why I see authors fail is because they don't
start the book off right from the very beginning. Okay,
(01:10):
So today we're gonna talk about the launch. I'm gonna
give you three reasons as to why I see authors
fail with this and what you can do to prevent it. Okay,
So the first thing is not creating a demand for
the book all right, and really and really like most
(01:30):
authors just forget the entire launch altogether. Okay, that probably
should be number one, because most authors just go straight
into selling the book, like they'll write the book, they'll
you know, publish the book, and then they're thought on Amazon.
They they're like, hey, everybody, the book is here. The
book is here, and then they launch the crickets and
no one buys it, and then they don't understand why, okay,
(01:53):
and the reason for that is because of number one,
not creating the demand.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Right.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
So when you think about the biggest celebrities and the
most successful authors and the biggest publishing houses in the world,
they are not launching to crickets, okay. They are not
just throwing a book and slapping it off on Amazon
and saying, hey, everybody, the book is here, go buy it.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Now, Beyonce was able to do that with one of
her albums. Okay, she came out of the blue and
she just dropped the album. But we're not Beyonce, okay,
and we're not talking about Beyonce.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
But what we're talking.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
About is authors like us, right, who may not be
a celebrity, who may not have big fan bases and
who may not have all the bells and whistles, but
you know that you have a great story. You know
that you have a great book, You know that you
have something that will impact lives.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
That is who I'm talking to today, all.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Right, But no matter what type of author you are,
no authors just skip the pre launch strategy. No authors
just yet a pre sale. Okay, And here's why my
clients are able to make thousands of dollars in the
pre sale. Guys, literally thousands of dollars you're leaving on
(03:11):
the table by not probably properly launching the book and
pre selling it right, by not building that demand from
day one. So this is what that looks like. That
looks like you making an announcement and telling everybody that
the book is coming. Because hey, when you think about
the most successful authors in the world, what are they doing.
(03:33):
They're telling everyone that the book is coming.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
So you make an.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Announcement, You let everybody know that the book is coming,
and you scream it from the hilltops because you should
be exciting about this book.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
No one is gonna be more excited for your book
than you, so you must show excitement. That is what
it's gonna get other people excitement, and they're just gonna
fall into your excitement, all right. And I teach this
strategy step by step inside of my ten k lock system,
all right, which is also inside of author Mastery. So
you can get it with the ten k book launch
(04:06):
by itself, or you can get it inside of author Mastery, whichever.
But either way, you need to properly create a demand, okay.
And that is the number one step in that is
just letting everybody know that the book is coming.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Number two, The.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Biggest mistake that I see authors make is not understanding
who their audience is. Not knowing who your readers are.
Who is this book specifically for? Who does this book
solve a problem for? Who does this book help to transform?
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (04:42):
That needs to be very very clear, and it needs
to be so clear that when they come across your book,
they automatically know it's for them. They feel seen, they
feel heard, they feel like, oh my gosh, this is
the book that I need. Oh my gosh, this is
the book that's such and such needs, and they'll buy
it for them. Right, So think about your buying process
(05:06):
and think about how you write or how you purchase
things like, what is that feeling? What is that instinct
that you get when you're like, you know what, I
need to slap and pull out my credit card and
slap it down and put it put it right on
this thing right here, right. I need to pull my
money right out of my wallet today. So what is
it about your book that's going to make your audience
(05:28):
feel so seen and feel so hurt that they want
to slap down their credit cards too?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
All right?
Speaker 1 (05:37):
And then the third step is not knowing where their
audience and their readers are. Okay, So a lot of
authors are just writing right, Like, you're writing a book,
you're not thinking about your target audience, which is your reader.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
You're not thinking.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
About who they are, where they are, the problems that
they're facing, and you're not really being intentional about any
of that, so that when you launch and then you
put the book out, no one is buying it because
you have not done the proper research to know who
these people are and where they're hanging out.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Right, Where are they?
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Like?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
What age range are they? Are they men? Are they women?
Speaker 1 (06:20):
What things specifically are they going through that will make
them want to buy your book?
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Right?
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Like, what is the trade off that they're gonna get
by having your book. And all of that goes back
to understanding who your audience is. Then once you understand
who your audience is, you then know where they are. Okay,
So that's just like McDonald's, right, or Starbucks, Like, they're
(06:48):
not going to not do their research before they go
and buy the land, right before they go and purchase
the commercial building. They're not going to not do their
research in advance to know whether or not their target
audience even lives in that area. Right, They're going to
understand very fully who the people in the area are,
(07:11):
who's coming to the shopping malls nearby, who's already buying
in the area, who's already living in the area, who's
already working in the area before they ever spend one
penny on buying the land or the building. Okay, So
that is how you need to be thinking. So as
(07:33):
you are writing this book, I need for you to
be intentional about number one creating a demand, Like, how
do you create a demand? How do you get people
excited for this book? How do you get people on
board and make them want to buy it? Right? And
the great thing about the pre launch strategy is that
(07:55):
you get paid today, not tomorrow, not three months from now,
not six months from now. And that is the thing,
Like I walk my clients through this process so that
they can start making money instantly, okay.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
And the way that.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
That works is because, like I said, you're letting people
know that the book is coming, but how many of
you know that you can actually pre sale a book.
A lot of authors don't think about that, Like, even
though you've probably bought a book in pre sale from
a celebrity or something or one of your favorite authors
for whatever reason, you don't think that that's possible for you.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
And the greatest part.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
About this launch is that it's not on Amazon. Like,
I don't teach my clients how to put the book
on Amazon, because here's the thing about Amazon is you
have to wait months to get paid on Amazon.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Not only that, but you cannot make money on a
book on Amazon until it's completely written. So even if
you do a pre sale on Amazon, you won't see
a dime until the book is actually written, and then
it's still going to take you months after that to
get paid.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
That is one of the biggest things, or one of
the things that a lot of authors don't realize is yes,
you can do a pre sale on Amazon, but you
will not see a penny of it, okay until you
turn in that final manuscript, and then you're going to
see the royalties which they pay out quarterly come months after.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
So I actually discovered this process, and it's not a
brand new process. It's one of the processes that you know,
bigger authors use.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
And that is.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
When I wrote my second book, and I was like,
you know what, I want to do this launch differently.
I want to make some money on the front end
because I'd already launched the book before.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I had already sold the book.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Before, and I put a lot of time, a lot
of money, a lot of energy into getting that book out,
and it took me so long to get paid. And
I was like, you know what, I want to see
the fruits of my labor right now, right I want
to see, you know, first of all, how do I
even get people excited for this book? You know? And
(10:22):
I want to be able to see the fruits of
that immediately. So I was able to do that with
my second book, to Glow Up, I you know, talked
about the book, I announced the book and people started
buying the book. And here's the great thing about this
strategy too, is you don't have to have a manuscript,
you don't have to have a book cover.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
You don't even have to have a title.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Yeah, like you have to zero have zero, like nothing.
The way that I teach this strategy, and it's totally legal,
it's totally.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Ethical, guys. Okay.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
The only issue with this is if you are already
know that you're not going to complete this book.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Please, I beg you do not.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Take people's money if you know that you're not going
to complete this book.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
Now, in order to pull this off, you have to know,
like you know, like you know, like you know that
you're going to put this book out, because that's going
to then bring in the second step in my strategy,
and that's bringing people along on the journey. Okay. So
that's what I show you, guys, how to do, how
to bring them along on the journey. And he just
feels more excitement, more excitement, more excitement.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
All right.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
So those are the three biggest mistakes that I see
authors make, really four, right, One is skipping the pre
sale all together. That's a huge mistake that is a
huge no no, do not do that, Okay. You want
to have buyers already in place, and the reason, of course,
is because you want to have sales from day one.
But you can have sales like way before you even
(11:56):
put the book on Amazon, okay. And the greatest part
about that is you have already made audience, like you
have a fan base, people who want to support you
book after book after book after book. This is one
strategy that you learn that's going to continue to serve
you year after year after year and help you become
(12:16):
a professional author where you do this full time.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
When you have a fan base, you can do this
for a living full time.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
All right.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
So that's the biggest mistake, and that's skipping the pre
sale number two, not creating a demand, right, like, not
putting things in place to have ready made buyers already
like in place to where they're already buying the book
and they're already excited, they're already going on the journey,
and they're already asking for book number two, okay, and
(12:49):
now you have buyers for book number two and then
number three. Not knowing who your audience is very important, guys,
all right, your book is not for everyone.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
That's another thing I'm gonna I walk.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
My clients through too, knowing specifically who the book is for, okay,
like real people, real buyers, real people who are gonna
support and actually get impact from the book. And then
also the next one is not understanding where they are,
all right? Number four, not understanding where your readers are
(13:22):
how to find them. All of your readers are not
on Amazon. Okay, that is a lie, that is what
people will tell you. But they are all not on Amazon,
all right. So if you want to learn this process,
make sure you go to ten kbook launch dot com.
