(00:42):
with your host, Nick Best andthe Angry Dad before and before we get
in today's podcast. I like thatOur podcast Answers podcast sponsors barbell A Peril,

(01:06):
all athletes and supporting their journey towardsgreatness. Iceed Up Industries get fifty dollars
off with code best at checkout aticed up Industries. The best cold plunges
in the market. Irrect, Yesthey are with all that sudden Man and

(01:26):
the Arnold. That was what's upthat talking about exciting? That was pretty
pretty amazing to see. Yeah,I mean the utter domination yep of Hooper
was pretty amazing. It was greatto see thor back. It's great to
see Martin's back and a lot ofthese guys back. So it's it was

(01:48):
pretty non cool. I think, yeah, they're gonna have this is gonna
be a difficult time because unless Hoopersburned out or tired, I don't think
there's an event he can't do that. He's that you know you're gonna get.
You might beat him in one event, two events, but then the
rest of it, he's gonna whoopyou and you're gonna have your bad event.

(02:12):
He's gonna go way ahead of you, and that's the end of that.
Yeah, he is probably right now, hands down the most well rounded
of all the strong men, andhe's probably the smartest too. But I
mean his technical ability to take something, look at it, figure it out,
figure out how to train it,and come in and execute is is

(02:34):
unmatched right now. It's unparallel. So yeah, because you got to think
about it. Instance, his thirdyear hitting all these major events, you
know what I'm saying, he cameinto the world strongest man and was like
everyone was like, who the fuckis this guy? And then all of
a sudden, the following year hecomes in, starts starts with dominating the

(02:55):
circuit, you know, and andwins all the big of big shows.
And then there's like I said, how many people are two times back to
back? You know what I'm saying, Arnold Champions and you know, like
because you got Sa Dronas, yougot Derek Pounds, Derek and Brian,

(03:15):
there we go, and then nowyou mid Thor and now Hooper, there
we go. Like I said, that's a very elite, elite like Mount
Rushmore just right there in the Arnoldalone. You know, it's like it's
it's it's insane. Yeah, andit's going to be interesting to see how

(03:36):
Worlds pans out here in May,because Thor is definitely back. Yeah,
it was good. He's definitely back. He's getting there, so a couple
more months to get ready for theWorlds and it's he's just he's just going
to keep getting in better strong manshape, in better competition, better all

(03:59):
the way around. So it's it'sit's gonna make Worlds pretty interesting to watch.
Martin's too, Yeah, big time. And like I said, and
Thor is gonna be in the Arnoldin and yeah, the UK. So
it's like, you know the strategyof what he and like I said,
we talked about this beforeward. Thestrategy is like I'm gonna use these competitions

(04:19):
as my warm ups to judge whereI'm at, what I'm doing, and
you know, if if he comesin hotter in the UK, you know
it's gonna set him up to lookreally good. But at the same time,
you know, Mitchell Hooper's got ageon his side, and he's got
a lot on his side, soit's like, you know, there's a

(04:40):
lot going on there. Yeah,so it's gonna it's gonna be interesting season
to watch. So, uh,let's start with the first event, which
was the Elephant bark dead left.Hell. Yeah, that was pretty amazing
to see, just to watch howeasily for pull that left. You can

(05:00):
tell the eleven hundred pound deadlift isstill in there somewhere. Yeah, that
was a thousand and three looked prettypretty darn effortless or one thousand and six.
Yeah, didn't get the number right, Nick, look pretty effortless.
And then of course deadlift machine BobbyThompson gets second at nine to sixty one
yep, which is unreal because Bobby'sa heck of a puller and Bobby's a

(05:25):
lot leaner than he used to be. So yeah, it's saying something,
you know what I'm meaning. Yougot Mitchell Hooper came in at nine fifty
one, which was a really solidstrong lift that was good. I mean
it was and that was good points. I put him third overall starting the
contest, which I don't if ifyou don't get anything below the top three

(05:46):
in every single event, you're gonnawin. Yeah. Then Evan Singleton had
a great deadlift. He pulled ninetyone and looks strong. I mean he's
a big, strong kid, sohe's not really kid. I'm just old.
He's not a kid. I'm justold. Yeah, and then Noble

(06:08):
Kov pulled nine oh one. Well. Tom Steltman pulled nine to sixteen.
Yep, nine sixteen, which waspretty that's not light. There's only a
handful of guys that are doing thaton the planet, so that's really good.
In Noble Cough, you know, came up with a nine oh one,
which was fantastic. I mean it'spretty solid. So that's the top

(06:30):
six. The top six guys allpulled over nine hundred, and then Evans
got eight seventy six. Martin's goteight sixty one. I don't think Martin's
is quite all the way back tolike full strength. He's getting there.
Which Martins is probably the other onethat's super smart when it comes to his

(06:53):
training and getting ready for things.I think by the time world gets here,
you're probably go see vast improvements onMartin's as well. He's I would
I would not be shocked if Martinswas on the podium Oral and thor and
yeah, and I can absolutely seeMitchell winning again, So it's it's gonna

(07:19):
be interesting. Tom Stoltan's probably gota little bit to say about that,
so we'll see. It'd be funto watch. And then Evan Singleton,
just like I said, and Bobby, you cannot make a mistake around these
guys. The competition is that good. But right now, the one person

(07:43):
that is leaps and bounds ahead ofeverybody right now is definitely Hooper. Soh
Then you had Kletchakowski pulled eight fiftysix, which, you know what,
that's pretty amazing because where I toremy lat, he tores Terry's major and
they had to reattach that so forhim to come back and pull that and

(08:07):
deadlift has never been his strength, but that's still that's a solid, solid
number for these points. Yeah, just kind of crazy. And then Oscar
pulled eight sixteen and Maxine. Idon't know what happened with max I hope
he's Okay, I hope it's nothingserious. But he got a no lift,

(08:30):
so you know, it's a prettygood start to the deadlift event.
But watching Thord, the'll pull thattwo thousand and three, that of s
yeah, one thousand and six.I'm always thinking the kilo conversion. Say
guys, yea, the way hepulled that and the effortless way he pulled

(08:50):
that was really impressive. That thatwas a beautiful deadlift. It truly was.
Next event comes to timber carry,so you already got your top three
going at it pretty good, andthen everybody kind of wanted to see what
Matthaeas was going to do, youknow, Klittchakowski, and he did it
eight point eight or eight point six, nine to five seconds, which is

(09:16):
pretty darn fast, and then Thorbeats him, does it eight point four.
That's that's moving for a big manlike that, it really is.
And then Hooper comes up and justruns with the thing and does it in
seven point ten seconds. Seven pointone's zero, absolutely fine. And the

(09:37):
crazy thing is is I think hecould have a little faster. If you
watch his pick, it looked likehe didn't quite pick it the way he
wanted to, and then just bolted. Yeah, which is great. I
mean, he just absolutely destroyed theevent. It was that was fun to
watch. That was truly fun towatch him just fly up at But I

(10:01):
mean, so your top three guysare all within a second of each other.
Yeah, that's pretty cool. Andthen Martins finished the frame in fourteen
point eight, so for fourth placein that event. So Martins is still
right up in there, banging headswith everybody and still going. And then
that brought Mattias back into the conversation, and then Mitchell gets a point back

(10:24):
from thor so now four is onepoint ahead after day one, Yeah,
which is pretty good position. Thething is is you got the Denny Stone
carry, which you know, theguy that runs the marathons can suffer the
most, yeah, you know, and you get to the Denny Stones and

(10:45):
it's all about suffering. With one, you can't just go as fast as
you want. You have to goto a decently controlled speed. And then
two, you just got to dealwith the pain in your hands, the
little rings just it's uncomfortable, itjust doesn't feel good. So but to

(11:07):
watch that and Hooper win by justabout two meters, so that's that's pretty
far he went a lot for tooyeah, and then Hotpdor got second in
that event with ten meters YEP,and then Evan did ten point he Thor
did ten point seven, Evan didten point six, and then Klochakowski again

(11:31):
at fourth at nine point seven three. Stultman got nine point four meters,
Molokov got four point oh four meters, Bobby Thompson three point five, and
then Martin's got eight to two pointseven to nine, Evan's two point one

(11:54):
or two point three, and thenOscar got zero point two five meters.
They're very difficult because one you pullit lopsided because the three hundred and fourteen
comes right off the ground or threeeighteen comes right off the ground, and
then the four fourteen doesn't want tobud and then you're like Eric and you

(12:16):
get it up and you're off balanceand you're trying to walk and keep your
balance and everything else, and thestones want to swing around on you,
especially the heavy one. It's okayif the lighter one does, you can
control that a little better, butthat heavy one, if that thing swings
around the front of you and youtry to take a step, you're done.
So it's about walking smoothly, andit's almost like doing a wedding march

(12:39):
where you whichever the light hand is, you step at that foot first,
yeah, and then you follow withthe other one, but go even with
your foot. You don't take thelong steps, you know, like you
would normally walk, and that keepsit from swinging around the front of you,
which will allow you to walk, you know, at a decent distance.

(13:00):
And then it's just suffering and holdingunder this, yeah, locking it
in. But that Hooper wins thatone and Thor gets second. So now
they pulled dead even yeah on points, you know, and that's uh,
that's doing pretty good. Their neckand neck. It's a good it's good.
They're fighting hard, the two ofthem. And uh, you know,

(13:24):
Evan's still up in the conversation. He's still up there pretty high.
He's doing really well. He's stillin third place at this point. He's
hanging out there. But Klitchkowski's movingup a little bit. So it was
and Stultman's still like in the topfive, he's still right there. Yeah.
So it was a good fight withall these guys. And then you
come to the Palem's wheels, yeah, which is on a fixed axle.

(13:50):
It doesn't rotate, and you know, I it's kind of crazy when you
clean it up to the top andit tries to rotate in your hands or
you're just not used to it.It will throw your balance way off and
out of whack. And especially likewhen you find a locket out over your

(14:11):
head, you got to be kindof used to that. And I tell
you what, Hooper changed his techniqueand started doing the split turk and he
absolutely killed it. And not onlyyou kill it, he broke the Gennesis
world record. Man. He useda four hundred pound axle. Yeah,
you know, and he did itfor five reps. You know, that's

(14:35):
that's pretty sick. That's saying something, yeah, and jerking them all like
that, and the last one thatlooked like he jerked it and then finished
like his normal pressed with it.But it was extremely impressive to watch him
learn that new style and then executeit on game day. You know.
That's that's saying something right there. That's it's pretty cool Hooper wins with five

(15:01):
reps which watch him at it.Just I I think he probably could have
did another one if he if heneeded to, if he really wanted to.
Yeah, Tom Staltman got four reps, which is very good and put
him right back in contention for thewhole thing. And then Chakowski also does
four reps, which moves him likeright back into the middle of the game.

(15:24):
The arnold you can't mess anything up. Yep, you can't. It's
it's you've got to be up,you know, the top four in every
event to even to stay in thepodium. You can't make critical mistakes.
And then thor Thwor did two repswhich kept him in there pretty good,
but it knocked him down a smidgeand gave gave Hooper one two and a

(15:50):
half two and a half point lead, three and a half point lead,
yeah, which is you know thatthat's pretty beefy with an event to go.
Oh yeah, so that was butthat's okay. I mean he's still
right up there. Martin's got arep which was good. That was that
was good because and then Bobby Thompsongets a rep and Evan noblakov Oscar and

(16:17):
and Evan's tom all zeroed it.So that's massive points for everybody involved there.
That brought Bobby up quite a bit, Martin's that put up quite a
bit, and you know, inThoor it dropped him a bit, but
that's okay because I mean he's stillright there and you get the stone next
there has always traditionally been pretty goodat stones. So and then Stultman,

(16:42):
I don't know, the guy's prettypretty good at stones, pretty good decent,
you know what I'm saying. Ithink he's done the heaviest one ever,
Like yeahs and then Hooper, youknow Hooper that that's another one.
Hooper is going to figure out,so last, but not least, we
get to the stone Medley and tono shocker to anyway, Mattais destroys this

(17:07):
event. Yeah, it makes itlook so easy, right, but him
getting second in the axle Typher secondin the axle gave him a lot of
points, especially with all those guysthat got zero's. Yeah, it made
a massive jump in there. Andthen he gets five stones. He just
you can just tell it. Hejust let it all fly. Yeah.
And then Hooper did two, whichis all he needed to do at that

(17:32):
point. That that was it.He won by I think eleven and a
half points, so that he neededto he got two. He's done.
Stultman got two stones, good points, really good points, which brought him
again way back into the way backup there. Novakov got one, and

(17:56):
then Bobby Thompson got one. Thething that killed or because he missed it.
Yeah, he didn't get it,and I dropped him eight. He
lost eight and a half points onthat, which that put Stultman up at
third by half a point. Sothat one event messing up one event dropped

(18:18):
him eight and a half points. And you know, but I means his
comeback show is still great. I'mreally proud of the guy because you know,
he's been out for four years.Well coming Yeah, got small or
small for him, still probably waymore than I ever did. Got a

(18:40):
lot, got a lot leaner, picked up a whole news sport. Yeah,
went through all that and actually learnedthe sport, which is quite impressive.
Yeah, and then came back, did some powerlifting torres pekoff yep,
and all Yeah, got hit fixedten months ago and then comes back and
does this and still presses a fourhundred pound axle overhead. Yep. It's

(19:03):
pretty impressive. So you know,it's neat seeing him back. It's gonna
be fun watching him back in themix, and it's it's gonna be entertaining
because you just you can't make anymistakes. At this point. The field
is so deep and there's only oneguy that's right now out there that's separated

(19:25):
himself out that's that far ahead ofeverybody, and that's Hoop. Yep.
I mean he's that good at allthe events there, there's no mess ups,
there's no week events. So it'sit's gonna be fun to watch this
year. But Ken Thord do it, Ken Martinz come back in there.

(19:45):
Yeah. Can Tom come up thereand do it? Absolutely? So it's
gonna be fun. I mean yougot Hoop and then right behind him,
you got about five or six guysthat on any given day can just turn
it on and if they have thegame of their lives be right there.
So exactly one little mistake, onelittle slip, and then that's it.

(20:07):
It's like, that's how quick someonecan overtake. You know what I'm saying.
Yep. It's all about execution execution. That's execution execution. And the
crazy thing is is I would say, who almost uses everything in training?
I mean at OSG, he satthere and loaded every single day for the

(20:27):
spoder loaders. He jumped in theredown the field and helped move all the
equipment and do stuff all three days. He was pushing the frames back,
he was taking the the ball, the sand bags back. Yep, he's
doing all that stuff exactly and thenstill training. Yeah, it's pretty neat.

(20:49):
I mean it really is. Overall. So overall standings, yeah,
Hoop at fifty two points, Yeah, Pledjkowski at forty point five. Yeah,
Tom Stultman at thirty eight point five, Ye, Pop Thor at thirty
eight, Bobby Thompson at thirty two, Nobile CoV at twenty five, Singleton

(21:14):
at twenty four, Martine's at twentythree, Tom Evan's at ten, Oscar
at eight, and you know,I think Max had withdrawn or something like
that. So it was a goodshow. It truly was a good show.
So that's kind of neat. Yeah, it's fun to watch that level

(21:37):
of execution go out there and theguys just go out there and let it
all out. Yeah, not inlet it all out. It was speaking
of that. The women's show waspretty incredible. But yeah, uh,
Speedy recovered to is, Oh mygod, her going up there with that
frame and still yeah, it's finishingit. Yeah, it drops, it
falls, picks it up again, starts going slips, falls and does a

(22:03):
face plant right into the wood frameand it comes out the next day and
still finishes the show. And ifher face was like really swollen. Yeah,
And I mean that that's the heartof a word all the way around.
I mean that that was quite possiblyone of the most unbelievable shows of

(22:27):
heart that you could and will thatI've ever seen. Yeah, And it's
it'd be really easy to just belike, oh no, sorry, this
hurts too bad, because nothing you'regonna lift is gonna be light And where
do you feel it in your face? All the pressure, every bit.
Yeah, I wish her a speedyrecovery with all that. And I'm just

(22:53):
so impressed with her will and herheart and her desire. That's the love
with a sport. It shows through. Yeah, It's pretty cool. It
definitely does. Yeah. And youknow, and you know, I'm I'm
a huge bodybuilding fan. I alwayshave been. That's my thing, and
so you know, obviously I'm watchingboth The strong Man and I'm also watching

(23:17):
The Open. You know, therethere are so many categories that the Arnold
covers, But like I said, open is that's my bread and butter.
That's what I love. And thePersian Wolf, the mister Olympia. You
know, Hatti Chooping, he tookthe victory, and you know he you
know, he's trying to set himselfup for this year's Olympia. And him
and Samson Dowda, Goddamn Samson Dadalooked insane. But the Persian Wolf won

(23:44):
it. And so I just wantto give a quick shout out to the
hottiechoopin a open invitation if we canever get you on the show, We
would love to get you on theshow. You know, but I'm gonna
tell you right now. Like thethe expo, the uh you know,
Arnold Classics, strong Man, theopen, everything look so suspendous. Everything

(24:06):
looked great. Everyone was posting everywhereand it looked like a great time.
So I'm definitely, you know, like next year, I think me and
Nick will definitely be there. Yeah, there's there's some things that I have
been straightened out here. So ohyeah, well, well you will be
there next year for sure. Yeah, That's what I'm talking about. Yeah,
and so you know, Nick, with that said and done, well

(24:30):
we also oh yeah we got forcoming up. We got coming up,
and I cannot wait to go toyeah, I'm definitely going to do the
Hercules hold, you know, andrecord breaking. I'm going to go after
that, so we'll see what happensthere. That's it, and then I'm
doing a little bit of your training, so we'll see how that goes.

(24:53):
You know, you know that pickingup those feet fast feet, I'm not
gonna worry abo going fast. I'mjust gonna worry about going So I'm going
to start now training my core andtraining my stability over time with that,
and as that gets going, theydon't worry about foot speed later. Oh

(25:15):
yeah, yeah, And that definitelyhelps with your dead because, like I
said, with your core being slightlycompisent, you definitely need to get a
little stronger because like I said, you've been your squatch work on the dead
list because you know, Nick stillwants to squat over eight hundred pounds.
He still wants the deadlift, youknow, and it's like you know,
strong man, you know, itleads into everything else that Nick does.

(25:36):
Yeah, it does. The coolpart is is this week I haven't put
it up yet, but I squattedsix ninety for a double, which was
nice. I box squatted it down. I kind of figured out down to
the spot where it doesn't hurt. There you go like my hips anymore.

(25:57):
And it turns out it's I've nowfix my technique and change things to where
I'm getting about an inch and ahalf to an inch before parallel, So
i just need to go that muchfurther. And I've gotten to where i
can comfortably squat down to that pointwithout any pain. Good. And so

(26:18):
probably over the next month to twomonths, I'll take a three quarter inch
matt and I'll put it down andthen I'll drop down that extra three quarters
of an inch. Get used tothat over about a month or two,
and then I'll put another one inthere and that'll get me to where I
need to be good, and thenthen it should be good. Then I'll
start ramping numbers back up from there. That'll be kind of fun, you

(26:45):
know what it's like. And theygo after that, so it should be
pretty cool. Bench has been goingpretty good. Deadlifts are now starting to
move a little bit with the mobilitystuff I'm starting to build get in and
pull in and get sinched in,yeah, a little better, so that
that that is going to come intime. I just got to keep working

(27:08):
on that, and I think we'regonna be okay, that's what I get.
Another two plus two thousand plus totalin me, you know what I'm
saying, and then guin us LittleRecords. If you're listening, we're coming
for you. Yeah, absolutely so. But anyway, it's been a great
show. Thank you. As always, I'd like to dedicate this show to

(27:30):
Dragon, just want to give himall my love. So anyway, as
always trained hard, rain smart, and be the best you can be.
