you know, you know, it'sglad to be back on the podcast.
(01:26):
It's glad to be getting everything upand going. And you know,
we just had the seminar in Sacramentofor on Tamed Strengths, and you know
that this is like the new lanethat you're trying to step into and the
girl customer because like man, theone on one you had with everybody there
at the at the seminar was wasabsolutely great. You know, like,
(01:48):
yeah, that's what I like todo. I mean, it's I don't
want to sit behind a computer andtiball day. I want to get hands
on and work with people on theirtechniques and stuff like that. And that's
gonna be my thing. I wantto go around and do seminars and then
do judging and stuff like that aswell. So yeah, it was great.
(02:08):
It's fun to watch people and seethe light bulb go off, you
know, and you're like, hey, move this, move that. It's
the little things that make a reallybig difference in the end. And that's
something that you know, a lotof these people out there writing programs have
no clue about. Like if theyhaven't got to that level, they're not
(02:30):
going to know these things. AndI mean, you can't the stuff I'm
going to teach you, you can'tread in a book, or they'll try
to explain in the book and they'llhave no idea why, you know.
And it's so it's kind of likehere, here's where you should be putting
the bar for the oak, andhere's why you should be putting it there
now I want you to take offthis way, and they do that and
then they can feel at work andthey're like, oh, I'm like exactly,
(02:53):
that's that's what you're looking for,and that's not what you're gonna find,
know, in a whole lot ofplaces. So that's really cool and
I really enjoy doing that. Soit's a lot of fun. And then
I also like judging because judging needsto be consistent. You need a person
that is going to be the exactsame for everyone. It doesn't matter if
(03:15):
they're loose on the rules or tighton the rules. What matters is they
judge everybody exactly the same. Soif they're judging tight, then you judge
everybody judge, and loose, youjudge everybody loose. If it's the same
for everyone, then it's the samefor everyone. I tend to lean towards
the tighter side because if you're goingto get a record, if you're going
to break something, you don't wantpeople to look at it and go through
(03:38):
I mean, what R and BBIdid you know he set a couple records
and it was like he didn't lockthem out all the way. He didn't
do this. He was moving wellthis year when he came back and broke
those records, those records were broken. He did those perfectly, He had
control, he locked it out,he did all the things he should be
doing. And it's not his faultthat he got credit for those lifts.
(04:02):
It's it's it's all comes down tothe judge, you know. So it's
not the lifter's fault when he getsa lift that he shouldn't have gotten because
he's not judging it. He's doingthe lift, you know, or one
that's questionable or whatever else. Imean that this whole thing is going to
create resealed by itself, but itcomes down to, you know, the
(04:26):
judge in the end. If heholds into a standard and holds everybody the
exact same standard, and especially whenyou're setting records, it doesn't need to
be like so tight that you breathewrong and you lose a lift, but
it needs to be legit all theway through. When Sam broke the women's
dumbbell record, that was legit allthe way through, and I was like,
(04:47):
look, I'm going to make it. Hold it. When when you
when you get the down signal andyou get it goes down, you will
have that record and no one's goingto question it. And that's like,
I'm not gonna hold you up forever, but you will have control of it.
And she did and she got therecord, yep. And there's no
no ifs and buts about it,right, So it kind of needs to
(05:09):
be that way. It protects andit protects a couple of things. It
protects the lifter and themselves and theintegrity of the sport because you know,
sitting there being told you just brokea record, but you know, I
think it was it, you know, And it's that's not how you want
to be thought about when you setrecords. When you set records, you
want no questions asked. That's therecord exactly. It's kind of you know.
(05:32):
So it's it's it's kind of cool. And I like judging, and
I believe in being able to coachas you judge. That's one thing I
don't understand about powerlifting is you cansee the guy he just needs to get
his shoulders back. Well a powerin a Stromian contest, I'm like,
shoulders back, shoulders back, shouldersback. I'll tell the guy what they're
doing wrong so they can fix it. And if they can't fix it,
(05:53):
they don't get the lift. Andif they can't fix it, they do
get the lift. I want tosee people be as successful as possible.
And I don't understand why that's nota thing in power. The thing it's
like knees, knees, knees soft, knee soft means and stuff like that.
Then the guy can straighten on hisknees. I mean yep. Sometimes
you don't know or can't feel it, so it's just a little different strong
(06:15):
man wise, you can you cantell him that as they're going and it's
nobody says anything. And I actuallyreally like that. I like that.
Well, you know that's one ofthose things too. That's getting ready to
happen is uh, Winter Warriors rightaround the corner, Nick Well will be
back in Sacramento in January, andyou're actually gonna be out there coaching.
(06:35):
You're gonna be out there not coaching, but you can be out there judging.
And the thing is is you canjudge in that style that you're talking
about right now, because you knowthat's one of the other roles that you'd
like to slip into where it's likeI want to excel the sport. I
want to get back to the sport, and he's going to be there for
the sport and with judging at theWinter Warrior, this is going to be
like one of those those opportunities andtimes where you're like, you know what,
(06:59):
this is what I like to do. This is what I'm going to
do. And with Winter Warrior,it's gonna be fun because like I said
that, there's a lot of goodevents. It's in a great gym,
and it's going to be located atand you know, it's a good strong
man culture there in Sacramento. Youknow, like that is just phenomenal.
You know, yeah, I likewhat they got going on there. It
is a really neat environment to trainin. And I mean there's para thing
(07:23):
this bodybuilding, there's a strong man. It's all run out of the same
place. So it's it's pretty coolstrong man, but it's it's a good
hardcore gym. I like it allthe way around. It's it's been a
neat place to train every once ina while, so I like it an
awful lot. They really did agood job up there exactly. And you
know, uh, let's kind ofgo over the events for Winter Warrior,
(07:44):
because you know, you're going tobe judging there. So it's like this
is even almost an opportunity for someof the people that are going to be
attending that event and not just attending, but like competing in that event to
like here the style of what you'regoing to be judging on. You know
what I'm saying, because a littlepregame on that for them if they're listening
(08:05):
right right. So the first event, it's gonna be max log. You
get three attempts, so that's good. That's pretty straightforward, pretty simple.
I would open with something on thelog that you can do for three with
no problem. Take your second attemptup into the ninety six ninety seven percentile,
and then your third rent. Makeit something that's one O one,
(08:26):
one o two, something that you'restriving to get and you know, and
also play around with that. Seewhere you're at as far as everybody else
goes, and do what you needto do, and that's it. If
you're capable of pressing a two hundredkilotte log, but you only need one
hundred and eighty to win the competition, press the one eighty and move on,
(08:46):
you know, save it for theother things. Unless you're setting a
record that's you know, going tobe at a super high level where it's
you know, national or world record, then then go for it. But
other than that, do what youneed to do to win that event and
move on to the next one.Next will be axl deadlift for reps.
That'll be fun. It's it's gonnabe pretty cool because axles don't give.
(09:13):
Yeah, so you're gonna it's gonnago all the way down, all the
way up. And basically if youhave the moment you have control of the
bar at the bottom, you're gonnaget a lift command. And then when
you have it locked out with yourshoulders back and your knees straight at the
top, you're gonna get it downcommand. So lift down, lift down,
(09:37):
pretty simple stuff. I would definitely, uh make sure you have some
good straps and uh chuck the bar, you know before you go that type
of thing, and maybe put somebaby powder on your legs. If the
facility allows it for you to liftin there that way, it'll slide into
position. But that's pretty simple. It'll be sixty seconds for me the reps
(10:00):
as you can get. Next thirdevent will be the yoke. It's sixty
feet, multiple drops allowed, justpick it up and go as fast you
can't get to the other side ifyou were up there. We did a
for the seminar. We did thingson the axle deadlift and on the yoke.
Yeah, so if you were upthere for that and you get to
(10:24):
do it, you're gonna do prettywell. You got a slight upper hand
on that. Yeah, they gota few few tips that are gonna work
pretty good. My preferences, theyoke starts behind the line and it ends
when you hit the other line,so you don't have to worry about where
the back of the yolks at whenyou drop it. Yeah. Always just
(10:46):
kind of think that's the way theydo the monk the front breaks, it's
over. Next will be who's fellkerry for ninety seconds and or max distance?
So you drop it, you're done. That's gonna that's gonna be fun.
It'll be interesting. We also coveredthat a little bit at the seminar,
and while I was there training withsome other people so on how to
(11:07):
carry those things and how do stayas upright as possible as you're carrying those
things so you don't blow out yourhamstrings. That's it. Then last will
be a stone series it's three stonesover bar, so three different stones over
bar. You have forty five secondsto get it done. The three stones
over and that's it. So that'llbe that'll be pretty neat. I think
(11:33):
it'll be a good little contest, that's it. And you'll be right front
and center judging, and you know, like I said, it's gonna be
those things. You know. Wealso talked about doing a meet and greet
there too, So if a lotof people, if you just want to
come see the show, get yourlike, if you haven't ever experienced an
actual like strong man event, youwant to, You're more than welcome to
come, come watch, come see, and also to come meet Nick.
(11:54):
You know what I'm saying. There'sgonna be time in between events and stuff
like that, so you know,we're definitely gonna what's call it be there
yep. And I'd like it whenpeople come up and ask questions and I
like answering questions and helping people dostuff like that, So it would be
a lot of fun. Yeah,and I know it's a little bit short
(12:15):
notice, but also too, thereare still opportunity to register, you know
what I'm saying, So like it, uh, you want to try to
get in there. I know there'sthirty nine spots remaining. Oh you know,
trying to think of when this isgonna come out, but probably by
the time this comes out, I'msorry, I'm completely mister. The registration
closed on the first, so bythe time this comes out. Yeah,
(12:41):
you know what I'm saying, neverhurts, never hurts, you know exactly.
You know what I'm saying. I'llthrow in some information into the notes
and let people know. So ohyeah, yeah, I'm pretty excited about
it. It's gonna be a lotof fun. No, no, definitely
gonna be a lot of fun.Like even last time we went to the
jelly Belly factory, we went toa nice Burgner place. You know,
(13:03):
we did actually quite a bit whenyou came down, and uh, you
know, when you come down again, we'll we'll see what else kind of
content we could sneak in. Yeah, well your time's being here. Yea.
It was a lot of fun hangingout with everybody and being at the
seminar. So, like I said, the straw man culture, you know,
I didn't realize how strong it wasin the segment area, and it's
(13:24):
it's it's really real. Nice tosee that well, all strength strength sports
do pretty well up in northern California. There's a lot of power lating up
there, and there's a lot ofstrament up there, so it's it's a
lot of fun. I mean Iremember living up there when I lived in
Ryn Park and Katti and stuff likethat. Yeah, going into Napa and
doing the Parloat meets there, soit was it was good stuff. I'm
(13:48):
looking forward to Thanks Gina for havingus up and it's just gonna be a
lot of fun. Oh yeah, definitely, definitely be a lot of fun.
And with it all all that beingsaid, Nick, how how's the
weather been out there in Las Vegas? Does it starting to warm up?
Was there still cool and down? No, it's great out here. It's
sixties. It's nice. I mean, the weather's been terrific out here.
(14:13):
It's why we live here. It'sbeen bright and sunny. You know,
you're gonna have a couple of daysmixed in that are a little little rainy
whatever, but not bad. Sothe weather's been great Vegas. We got
three hundred days of sunshiny ear nice. Yeah. And with all that weather
and all that stuff going on,how's the reintroduction of regular traffic after the
(14:37):
shut down F one in that wholethe bacom. Well, it's nice to
be able to get around the citykind of like we used to, so
that that's kind of nice. Imean, there's still construction going on.
There's still not quite done with theTropicano Overpass, but they're getting a lot
closer now because that will be donebefore the super Bowl. So yeah,
(14:58):
that'll be good. That will begreat when that gets done, because that
that's going to say to everybody atleast ten to fifteen minutes of driving time
to day once that's cleaned up.Yeah, I know that's the exit you're
using to pick me up from theairport all the time, so you don't
have to go all the way aroundanymore. Yeah, it'll it'll probably save
a good ten minutes of driving gettingto the airport to pick you up,
that's for sure, just for meto get to work and stuff like that.
(15:20):
It'll it'll be a lot easier toget down to the range exactly.
And with the Super Bowl hitting, like, are you guys preparing at the
range for the amount of traffic thatyou guys are gonna get because you know,
the Super Bowl requires a lot ofthings that you know, like events,
access to stuff like that. Andyou guys literally being across the street
(15:43):
from the Raiders Stadium from algia Stadium, you know, do you feel like
going to get a lot of actualtraffic coming in from the Super Bowl.
I think we'll get some of it. We're about a five minute to ten
minute walk at most walk from thestadium because you know, Dean Martin runs
right or Industrial whatever you want tocall it. If you've lived very long
time, you colored Industrial runs rightup the side, and so all you
(16:10):
got to do is walk south fromthe stadium maybe half a mile at most,
and you're right there at the range, so it's walking distance. They
closed the street off though for footballgames and stuff like that, so the
street will be closed off. You'llhave to walk over, or you can
go around the backside. You know, you can take Russell up to Polaris
(16:32):
and turn left on Polaris and it'lltake you over there as well, so
it's not too bad. But youknow, it's a quick little walk right
right down Industrial. That's it.And for all the football players that will
be at that event, because likeI said, the season is not over,
there's a lot of stuff up inthe air. But you know what
I'm saying, I definitely expect tobe seeing some professional football players. Oh
(16:53):
they're wanting to cut loose on someof the machinery in there. Oh yeah,
we get some of the raiders isthat come in fairly often anyways,
So and a couple of their coachesand stuff like that come over as well
too, So you never know whoyou could have seen that place. I
mean, BJ Baldwin goes in thereall the time, so it's you know,
(17:14):
I've seen Randy's tour come in there. There's all kinds of people that
come in that place, so it'sneat. So it's a fun place to
hang out, it really is,you know. And how lucky is Nick
to actually be a professional pro strawman and working up to be that gunsmith,
because I know that that's the wholereason it's the job, you know
(17:36):
what I mean. It's like you'reslow steps, slow steps, And the
more I learn about firearms, themore I know I don't know, So
every time I learned something new,it just adds, you know, fifty
other things that I now have toresearch and learn. So it's really really
cool. It's kind of like neatgetting into like this a new hobby as
(18:00):
well. So it's it's neat andit's and it's fun and I like going
in there and you know, shootingsome shooting targets and stuff like that.
It's it's it's fun, it's challenging, and I'm getting better at it too,
so I can't complaint. You know. One of the things I've noticed
is Evan Singleton has actually been gettinginto technical shooting, and uh, yeah,
(18:22):
exactly. So I thought that waspretty cool. I was like,
you know, uh, and you'redoing that, and then all of a
sudden, Evan's like, like youreally, you know, getting into it
too, So I thought it wasa pretty cool little little little thing there.
Yeah. The the thing with itis is it's a neat hobby.
It's a great thing to kind ofget into. Plus the self defense part
(18:44):
of it and just everything else likethat. It's it's awesome. I mean,
it truly is. But it's likeadult legos, you know, you
know that you get to play withand add this to that gun, and
add this to that gun, andtry this type of optic, try that
type of and then just all thedifferent types of animal that you can run
(19:06):
through the guns and the different purposesbetween the ammal you know, it's it's
it's it's a neat learning thing, you know. And all the different sizes
and stuff like that. I mean, yeah, and the difference between shooting
a fifty calendar twenty two is likenight and day. So yeah, it
doesn't get it more variable in thesize and ports of the guns, that's
(19:27):
for sure. So it's it's it'spretty neat. I really do love it.
And it's a fun place to work. It's like going to work at
a place that you're part of afamily. So it's it's a lot of
fun. We have a good time, you know. And that's one of
those things too, is like Nick, you get to do double your job
because like I said, you're justbeing you're just a professional shamn. But
(19:48):
then also too, you get towork at the Disneyland of the gun ranges
and you know what I'm saying, they have a good time with it at
all times. Oh yeah, no, it's it's good stuff. I mean,
Plus it's fun. I need toget people that are never you know,
shot a firearm at all, andthey come in and they're you know,
shooting a glock and MP five andthen an M four and stuff like
(20:08):
that, and they're they're like nervous, and we're like, hey, I'm
right in here with you. I'mgonna have one hand on your back and
one hand on the gun and we'regoing to walk you through it. So
and then they're like, oh,this is really fun. I go Exactly,
it's as long as you follow thebasic procedures of you know what you're
supposed to do with the guns, you'll be fine. So it's it's it's
(20:30):
a lot of fun. And seeinghow excited they get when they hit a
bullseye and stuff like that. It'sit's it's fun. It's good stuff.
Oh yeah, that is it?That is it? Well, Nick,
let's let's slide on out and letthese people know what's those famous words?
Okay, well, please like shaand subscribe. And it's always train hard,
(20:52):
train smart, and be the bestyou can do. You're listening to
the best experience would make best
