(01:27):
Nick, We're all, you know, we're getting back into swing of things.
We have a whole bunch of stuffjust happened where you know, we
everything had to be put on pause. But we're back, you know,
and you know with being back, you know, you have a lot of
trips coming up, so you knowour long trip coming up. Yeah,
I got a lot of there's gonnadefinitely be a little bit of traveling.
(01:51):
I think, what is it next? I think Tuesday, which we had
I had to Colorado yep. Someof this equipment for for the Strongest Man
on Earth yep. So you getto hang out with Brian on Tuesday.
So that's gonna be great. Andthen we come back and then the twentieth
(02:14):
I lived for Fief, which isthe Fie for Power Week. So there's
like Highland Games, stone lifting, straw man contest, seminars. Ed Cohen
is going to be there, GabrielPinion is going to be there. Yeah,
there's so many people are going tobe there. It's it's absolutely amazing,
and it's the most beautiful spot togo and have a straw man contest,
(02:36):
and it just is so primal whenyou're there, it's freaking neat in
the hercules hold. I just Ican't wait to get a hold of out
again. That's gonna be fun exactlyexactly. You know what I'm saying,
because you made it look so easylast time, So it's like, yeah,
it's definitely gonna be nice to ventureit and then have the information needed
before you step on the platform thistime. Yeah, yeah, so that'll
be good. It'll be fun,and then it's always great to see it
(02:58):
going the Kiki. It really is, and they put on a wonderful show
out there, and the FIFA Hotelis absolutely amazing. The food is absolutely
incredible. They have very different standardsfor food than the United States, and
they can have no additives in theirfood. So it's all like if you're
if you eat nothing but actually reorganic, which there's an issue with foods
(03:23):
now, but yeah, but ifyou eat real organic food, that's what
it's like. It's all real organicfood doesn't mean to be labeled organic.
You know, they're not bringing itin from no, I don't know,
China. So yeah, so goingup there, the food's absolutely amazing.
(03:44):
It is an incredible week. It'sjust something you got to experience at least
once. And then climbing and goingdown to the lake and just everything.
It's just totally beautiful up there andjust what you're spending ten days out there,
the twentieth to the first. Soso yeah, yeah, it's gonna
be sweet, but yeah, that'sgonna be absolutely incredible. Looking forward to
(04:08):
that, and then head over tothe Shah Classic in August, so it's
gonna be fun. Go to thething in Colorado, get go to the
strongest span on Earth. And thenhe's added more weight classes and stuff like
that to the Shaw Classic instead ofjust the strongest span on Earth, so
that's gonna be kind of neat.So running all the contests and stuff at
the same time, there's an exponow that is absolutely incredible. It's it's
(04:33):
the bomb. I mean, yougo in there and it's just all really
all these amazing people that just lovestrength. So it's neat. It's truly
a wonderful and amazing experience. Ifyou haven't made that trick, you got
to make the track and then buytickets and stuff like that. It's just
it's really moving the spoort ahead. And then come back and then the Giants
(04:57):
live shows here in September twenty eighthhere in Vegas, so hopefully get to
come out there and hang out andsee the guys and do stuff and go
around and maybe they'll have a wreckingball hole that I can jump in with,
you know, and that's your backthat's your backyard, that's your stopping
grounds out there. So exactly, that's it. It was not that long
(05:18):
ago. I just saw that Roguehad opened up a gym in Vegas.
You know what I'm saying, Rogue, if you're listening, make sure you
send that invite to Nick out there, because let me tell you right now,
that's someone you want training in yourgym. Yeah. Yeah, Well,
I mean I love Flex's gym too, so it'd be kind of neat
to go see the rug place andgo in there and get some training in.
(05:41):
Plus, Calli and Dilloner doing CrossFitnow, so I think it'd be
fun for them to come as well, because exactly because Rogues the biggest CrossFit
company out there. Yeah, theydon't get much bigger than that, So
exactly, it'd be kind of neatfor them to see that and experience that
and learn out there. So that'dbe great. And then Uh, and
we got a O s G whichI'll be out uh in December, and
(06:09):
so it's it's gonna be a goodfall. And then I might even go
up and do the pilot to meetin uh, Sacramento in your neck of
the woods. Yeah, in Octoberexactly, kind of make it up my
mind because I can there's another oneup there in March, so I might
switch and just put all the effortinto one and then go to the pilot
(06:30):
to meet in March. So we'llsee what happens with that. Exactly,
exactly. That's one of those thingstoo, exactly, you know, because
a lot of people need to rememberwhat it's been about a year and a
half now since you got your kiddyremoved, So you all you've done is
try to correct the problems that surgerycaused, and even with that cancer,
(06:53):
that's all. That's what I'm saying. It's like, you know, like
you had to recover from that andthen and then you started, you know,
as soon as you were cleared towork out, that was the first
thing you did. Started working out, start trying to perfect the imbalances and
then even seeing where the imbalances are, because you know, that's one of
those things is you're very meticulous onhow you train and how your body's reacting.
(07:14):
It's something that you know you're sointuitive with because it's like I'm slightly
doing this and this is not safe, and you you literally took the time
back to like like, all right, let me dissect this and see what
needs to be done to to correctthese imbalances and these deficits that you have
now. And you know, you'vecome so far and only in a year
and a half. It's like notvery many people in the world, you
(07:38):
know what I'm saying, are comingback from cancer, abdomen surgery and then
trying to correct your correct your theimbalances to still be doing the weight that
you're doing. You know what I'msaying, Yeah, you gotta put a
little thought into it so it helps. But yeah, I mean I noticed
I was helicopter in a little bitwith the deadlifts I get back up into
(08:00):
the seven hundred pounds range, andit was causing a lot of issues that
we're gonna make things worse. SoI just took steps back, rebroke it
back down, started strengthening the areas, and now the areas are getting strong.
So now I'm going to start bringingit back up. And it doesn't
it doesn't hurt that. You know, one of your good friends is Ed
Cohen, who can actually let youknow like, hey, I see this,
(08:24):
you should try this, you knowwhat I'm saying, Because since last
Norway. All he's done is stretchyou and let you know what you need
to do correct and it'll be goodto see ed. I love that guy.
I mean, it's still one ofmy heroes. And I don't have
a lot of heroes left. There'snot a lot of people, as they
get to know, people that Iwill still look up to at this age
(08:46):
because you learn more about him andstuff like that. He's one of those
people I still look up to.It's kind of neat that you can put
you know, not only can youcall him a friend, but you can
still look up to him, man, because he's looking up to He's a
great example of you know what Iwould inspire to be, you know,
(09:07):
as a as a competitor, asa person, stuff like that. So
it's it's pretty cool. Yeah,it's extremely cool. Like every time I've
been around and hang and got thatchance to hang out with you and him.
Look, he's constantly putting everyone elseup above him. He's constantly trying
to inspire people to lift heavy anddo it correctly, you know what I'm
(09:31):
saying. He he like whether it'sa seminar, whether you meet him in
person, he gives the time totalk just like you do, and it's
like you know, you know, and like I said, sometimes I know
it frustrates you and it upsets mea little bit. But it's like this
younger generation just don't recognize him.And you know, like I said,
I think that it's starting to comearound more because he's more on social media,
(09:54):
more doing the seminars and a lotof times, you know, like
he's one of those people that haverevolutionized powerlifting and the way oh yeah,
and the crazy thing is is thestuff he was doing was back when they
used the same bar through everything,so you didn't have these joke of deadlift
bars that give four or five inches, especially for the simo guys before it
(10:16):
comes out the floor that the baris so thin you can actually double thumb
lock it, which is no differentthan wearing wrist traps. Yeah. I
do not understand why that's allowed otherthan it hurts if you don't let go
of the the thumb. You youyou're basically lifting with straps as far as
I'm concerned. Yeah, but yeah, I mean he did that with a
(10:39):
met with you know, mixed maxcrip. The guy's grip was like an
insane Absolutely, I'm still yeah,it's are ridiculous. It's ridiculous. Like
when you look at it's it's funnybecause, like I said, it's a
great guy. But man, hehas got like the perfect bodies for power
(11:00):
in the sup period. Oh yeah, no, well that was proven,
you know, and and like Isaid, I mean, how much more
is he gonna pull on a barthat's gonna give four to five inches before
it comes off the ground. Youknow, the biggest mistake a couple of
these sumo deadlifters dead was where Adidassocks before they went and did the lift,
(11:22):
and the bar is like an inchbelow the three inches of Adidas you
know lines, and then when itcomes out the floor, it's an inch
over that when it finally completely comesoff the floor, and it's just like,
why do that with a stiff bar? But that's why the deadlift of
(11:43):
the IPF you see, they're stillpretty darn good, but you don't see
the Soumo polar Is pulling a thousandon an IPF bar. On the Iliko
bars, it's you know, they'rethey're too stiff. So it's it's really
gotten to the point where it's destroyingthe lungevity of the true meaning of the
(12:05):
lift. You're beating records with differentequipment, Yeah, I mean if you're
using if you're gonna beat the recordbeating with the same equipment the guy set
the record on exactly, you know. So anyway, that's my soapbox for
today. Well then, and here'sthe thing. Let's let's steer it in
a different direction because you just saidillegal bar. What's your top three favorite
(12:28):
bars? And if you had topick one, which would would it be?
Bear Steel just has some bars thatI really really like. So I'm
pretty happy with that Texas power bar. You really can't go wrong with.
They've been around for forever, atleast forty years that I'm aware of,
(12:54):
so probably longer, sorry guys. And then the Aliko bar, the Alleco
bars absolutely amazing, the one thatthey use in the IPF which it's a
fantastic bar. It truly is.And there's a reason why the bar is
eleven hundred bucks because you can handlethe weight and yet not bend or you
(13:15):
know, so it's a great bar. Those were probably my top three bars.
There you go, and so deadlift, bede and squat would you the
Illego bar completely all the way acrossor do you have a preference between the
three right there? Well, me, in a perfect world, I'd like
(13:35):
to see the Ellego bar all theway across because it's it's wide enough for
you to get your hands in andif you really need to put out your
hands wider than that stretch stretch,if I can get into that thing,
If I can get into the widthof the Illego bar at fifty five three
hundred pounds, come on, youcan get into the thing too. You're
(13:58):
not working your mobility, so we'reit's your shoulder mobility. Get in there.
There's ways to do it, soyou really don't need the extra extra
wide bars. So I like theIllco bar. I would like to see
it done in all three of thelists because it's one bar. You buy
it, you're good, you onlyneed one. That's it. Instead of
(14:20):
this having like a bar for squad, a bar for bench, bar for
deadlift. It's like, you know, you're lifting with fifteen hundred dollars to
two thousand dollars worth of bars inthree lists. It's like why exactly anyway?
But everybody likes to break records anddo stuff, So yeah, do
(14:45):
you think it should be records perequipment, Like you know, I hold
like if someone holds the record,I hold the record on this kind of
bar, I hold the record onthis kind of bar. It should it
be that way at all the process. I'd like to just see it one
across because not everybody needs a participationor you know, okay, you either
(15:07):
set the record or you didn't.You know, I can see they're being
a tested and a non tested thatI can understand. But other than that,
it should I would prefer it.I'll be with the same equipment.
That way, it's the same allthe way across the board. You either
didn't or you didn't exactly, butthat's what I prefer. Yeah. Well,
(15:28):
and also too like uh, youknow, you get a lot of
people too, like they have records, and then you know they're like,
you can only set a record inan official sanctioned uh power lifting meat,
you know what I'm saying. Soyou get a lot of people that you
know, they're setting records or doingrecords at gyms in their home and stuff
(15:48):
like and they don't have two nationalreferee or two yeah, two national referees
or whatever. Yeah, yeah,I mean I'm okay with setting a record
with you know, two national refereesand uh, and just a regular ref
or three national referees. I'm finewith that, but you have to have
the quality they're judging to do that. So it's just just what I think.
(16:18):
I mean, it's going to beunpopular in period and not like that,
but I think it's right. Imean the w r p F.
Now you have to do it ata national level contest, which is great,
but what if you can't your there'sschedules in people's lives and stuff like
that, and the fact is ifyou can get the rest there, that's
all that matters. Anyway. It'sthe same refs that are going to be
in a national level meat as anon national level meet. So it's you're
(16:44):
neither here nor there, But it'sup to the federations. Yeah, it's
just how it goes. So let'sgo. Let's go through the records.
Uh, let's go through the recordsas you hold. What's the oldest records
you hold? Uh, that's kindof that's kind of hard to say because
(17:08):
I haven't looked at some of themin a long time. The oldest record
I hold is the farmers walk inStrongman is the Farmer's Walk a record,
I do that in two thousand andsix. Okay, so at the Ifs
of Worlds where I broke, I'mjust Mormitz's record going seventy five meters with
(17:29):
two turns on the IFSA handles whichare about six feet long, and the
handles are right yeah, and they'reright inside the implement, so you can't
get them off your legs, whichis what makes that event actually so hard.
Yeah, that's probably the longest oneI've had that I can think of
as far as records go. Powerlathing wise, I was the first person,
which the record has been broken, but as the first person in California
(17:52):
to squat eight hundred drug tested. It's first person in California. It's total
over two thousand drug tested, andthat was in ninety six, which is
why I want to squat over eighthundred again because that'll that'll make it.
This will make it twenty eight years, that's it in a contest that's insane
become cool. That would definitely becool, you know what I'm saying,
(18:15):
Because that's a long time. Yeah, that's a bit, but it's cool,
and I mean it's it's some ofthe longevity speaks for itself. Some
of the just determination and not caringif it hurts or not, because you
kind of have to. You're gonnahurt. Yeah, it's gonna happen.
(18:37):
Aging people don't do anything and theyhurt, So might as well have fun
while I'm doing it. And I'mgonna I'm in a spot where I can
still do things twenty year olds cando and I'm in my mid fifties,
so you know, the quality ofmy life as it goes on, I'm
gonna be able to do a lotmore. Muscle mass and grip strength is
(18:59):
a very good indicator of longevity. So yeah, I'm feeling pretty good.
That's it. Well, you know, like I said right off top,
you you're you you have trimmed downyou damn here have a six pack.
Yeah, kind of funny, kindof fun it's you still have that muscle
density there. And was it lastuh sometime this week you just farmer walked?
(19:25):
Was it like three thirty five?Yeah? Ahn, yeah, yeah
yeah yeah yeah. I was likeI'm like, oh, I'm getting close
to the end. I'm just gonnaslow down, all right, here you
go. So it was it feltlike a good run it's it's feeling good.
My grip's feeling good with it,my movements feeling good, my feet,
(19:45):
my steps are getting much better.Just like the yoke two weeks ago
with seven hundred was actually I gotmy footsteps back, I got my pattern
back. Yeah, And so nowit's the rhythm and now it's just accelerate
right, work on the work onthe pick, work on keeping the speed.
So like power wise, you can'treally tell about my streets at a
(20:08):
slight angle. One one way it'sgoing down slightly and the other way it's
going up slightly. So when Iwant to train the power and the drive
with the yoke or the Farmers,I'll go uphill, and when I want
to train the speed, I'll godown on hill because it gets down and
it flattens out. Yeah, soyou get you keep that speed through the
(20:29):
flat spots and it helps you acceleratea little bit too much of a grade
though, you got to decelerat itis you're going to go through fast,
and that's bad. So it endsup being a great way to train it.
It really does. Oh yeah,Well, before we get out of
here, Nick, we're actually Nickis actually working with John Anderson I'm working
(20:52):
on a mindset training program where whatit is is Nick's Nick is a champion.
John is a champion strong man.John's also done bodybuilding and pro wrestling.
But the thing is is, likeit's the mindset. You know,
a lot of people always ask youwhat are you thinking about? What are
(21:12):
you doing? But here's the thingis, like you've never had a dedicated
program to that, to like, you know, to offer to people.
So now you've actually are doing thatnow. Yeah it's Patreon, right,
yeah, Patreon right on Patreon.Yeah, so if you look up on
Patreon, elite, agelest mindset, that's John and I and wean't to talk
(21:32):
about the little things that you needto be doing every single day, the
patterns you need to get into, and the steps necessary to be better and
to get better and to be thebest you can be. And it's and
it's an elite mindset that carries youthere. It's the way you think,
it's the way you look at things. It's it's all the little things that
you need to do and steps inorder to become successful, because being successful
(21:57):
is in cumulation of a whole bunchof small all the little goals and objectives
that you accomplish every single day withouteven thinking about it. But this will
get you thinking about it so thatyou can do those better, so you
can reach higher levels. And thatis correct because that's one of those things.
Is like everyone always wonders, what'sthe secret sauce? Well, guess
what that secret sauce is? Themindset. Yeah, it's the way you
(22:18):
line out your day. It's theway you line up your sleep. It's
the way you execute everything during theday. And you know, there's the
three p's and the favorite one isperge. You know, you have to
find something that you do every singleday that keeps you from getting better and
purge it. That's it. Youstart cutting everything that's going to make you,
(22:45):
make you not perform well or holdyou back, and you purge those
things. Eventually you're going to getpretty good at whatever it is that you're
doing. And this applies to everything. You know, you come in with
three positive things a day. That'sthe first thing. It's three post the
things three two, one and thentwo. Purpose. What's your purpose?
How are you going to go throughit? You know, how are you
(23:07):
going to execute this? What's yourplan? How are you going to do
it, and then the fourth Pis purge. You're going to get rid
of something that messages you up andthat is actually going to you know,
uh, that'll give you the fourthP, which is what progress progress,
so you'll continue to progress and getbetter at whatever it is that you do.
(23:27):
These things work for everything in yourlife, so you know, it's
go check it out. You knowit's it's going to be neat. And
John just nails of the stuff, just dead on the head, I mean,
just goes right on through it.And we both talk a lot about,
you know, how we managed todo what we've managed to do and
(23:47):
things we've seen other people do.And it's a way to guide and steer
your way through not only training, competing and everything else, but your whole
life. So it's it's a wayto be successful in life as well,
exactly. And guess what you canfind that at Patreon at slash Elite ageis
mindset and nick. As we getout of here, you have we have
(24:08):
a favorite saying that we like tohear from you. Well, there's always
if you like this, please like, share and subscribe, and there's always
trained hard, train smart, andbe the best you can be. Yours.
(24:37):
The best experience would make the best
