Nig. What's going on? Ben doing good? All right, so
welcome to the best experience we got. Chad Poy and
Trey Mitchell here, got a bunch of questions for both
of them. How you guys doing today?
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Doing pretty good? Nick, thank you for having us on.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
You're good. Just you know, wind down that work day
and then do a podcast and then from the airport.
We're gonna have a good ten day.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Oh I like it all right, that's gonna be fun.
We'll get into that too. Big question for Trey. You
tore your achilles at the Rogue last year and then
came back and did Worlds and you've been competing at
the Strongest Man on Earth and everything else. How did
you get over that recovery so fast? And in how's
that effected your training getting ready for the Arnold Because
(01:55):
I know the frame care you're going to have to
go up up the ramp and stuff. So how's that
affected as well?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yeah, So toward the achilles at the twenty three Rogue
Invitational and like fully fully detached. So after after I
got released to do recovery, I was basically.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Doing anything and everything I could think of, like chocolate, therapy,
ultrasounds and the like, you know, being got to do
be more active.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
You know, was on my feet a lot more.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
You know, when you're laid up in bed for weeks
on end, you kind of get antsy, so started doing
a little a little more of walking forward recovery and
weight loss.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
And little scootering. Yeah, had the little scooter.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yeah, a little scooter.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
You try to almost busted your face on it a
couple that was that was that was experience.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
I busted my face a couple of times on that.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
And then I'm sure Chad had a had a few
words of advice in some directions.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Well, well, I will say this. I mean he was,
you know, really get a hell of a job, because
they send him up to see sewn Rocket up in Boston,
and Shawn's a hell of a surgeon and did a
great job of the surgery. And when it actually happened,
I wasn't able to be at the roague. I was
actually at the prese he speech with something, but I
was sitting with Chris duffrom what happened. So Chris is like, dude,
(03:16):
don't worry. I've got this protocol of peptides and nutrients
and everything to do to re heal it. And he
showed me a guy. He goes this guy towards bilateral
potilitaire and then twenty four weeks later, squad and is
a lifetime pr heues, don't worry, We'll have trade back
in six months. I'm like, man, that's crazy. No, there's
no I could think as there's no way. And then
(03:36):
you know, really Tray just followed the protocol, followed the training.
You know, he cut the weight because he didn't need
to be that heavy, so that got his weight down.
I mean, Nathan Payton helped him with his nutrition, and
then you know, going to Worlds, I think the biggest
trepidation of the world's like, you know, I'm looking like, okay,
this is too soon.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
I mean, I'm a.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Coach, but I'm also you know, I think I go
with the dad mode a little bit soorried about him
getting hurt.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Well, you care about your athlete, That's that's a big deal.
You worry about things like that when you care about that.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
It was only a six months post surgery, six.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Months post surgery, and we we went with the plan,
like make it to the stone Off and we're fine.
It doesn't don't give a ship. Who's in the stone
Off traise kicking the ass. That's what my thought was,
make the stone Off. Didn't quite make it, but you know,
walked out of the show very confident. Knowing that his
achilles was fine, and then we were just able to
go back to training and get back to work and
then focus on uh, you know, going to the Strongest
(04:33):
Man on Earth. M that.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
Just to be as a hundred percent as it could
for that show. Didn't do any of the smaller ones
in between.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah, and then you set a world record the.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Following competition at the Giants Las Vegas.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
Yeah, it was kind of funny me. You know, Brian
text me goes, where was that power at the strongest
mount on Earth?
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I go, I think.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
We were just trying to come back. I mean, I
think the strongest amount of Earth was, you.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Know, just like it maybe you know. I was like yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
But then that poll, which I think is what's funny,
is because we talked about this earlier. It's like, I'm
watching that poll. My wife has just gone to bed,
and I'm down here streaming at the freaking TV to
get it up, and she comes right downstairs. What's wrong,
what's going on? What's okay? I'm like, yeah, Trey just
pulled four seventies. She goes, big freaking deal, looks four
seven ago and kilos. She goes, what is that?
Speaker 2 (05:26):
I go ten.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
No, that's a big deal, like you. Yeah, so that's
how it goes.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
That's pretty amazing. That's really really cool stuff. Yeah, yeah,
that's it's gonna be pretty I'm looking forward to the
Arnold and what you're gonna do there. So, uh, one,
we can tell your prep for the arms going pretty good.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
This year is going pretty well.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah, No, which is which is awesome. I mean, I
don't think you're gonna overtrain or I think you're just
gonna go in and just go have fun and just
kill it. But let's go through the events on day
one and day two. So what's the first event walking
into that.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
The first event is gonna be the max Elfin Bar
Dead Live with kind of the State before the Arnold Classic, Right,
I'm looking to pull some big numbers, like like basically,
you know, going off of the Giants Live Las Vegas,
Like I think I can hit some pretty good, pretty
good numbers. I'm not like thinking maybe over four seventy kilos,
like I think that's possible for me. Like it's going
(06:35):
only going to be the second time I ever pulled
on the Elephant bar, but like just learning going off
of the videos of others athletes.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
And you know, based off my own experience, I.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
Think, yeah, the easy pull, you know, slowly pull into it,
then just when I get all most of those slack
out and then fire into it.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yep mm hmm. I mean it's that's what you're gonna
have to do that bar. It's a long, steady pull
till you get all the weight off. And then soon
as you got the weight off, then you can start
putting the screws to the bar. And even then you
still can't go full blast on it because then the
bar's going to oscillate at the top and it gets
super hard to lock out. So you've got to kind
(07:15):
of pull along and smooth with that for the most part.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
But you can put core will definitely help. Was that
oscillation at the top?
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Yeah, no, absolutely.
Speaker 5 (07:25):
You saw my training when I went to train with you,
you know in Las Vegas before a power slap, like
do a lot of a lot of core exercise.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
It's super seded, was my you know training.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
There's thing lots of core, lots of condition. Yep, it's
a core lots of condition. Because I will say this,
I mean if one of my athletes got beat on conditions,
because I didn't do my job, and I laughed because
we were at Worlds and I'm on the sidelines and
he finishes the stand back people chase. He goes, no,
I know I did all those echo bikes, man, because
(07:55):
it wasn't breathing hard, so it was awesome. It's going
to be exciting to see.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Right, and the new slimmer version then waste. It is
not slimmer anywhere else, just the wist.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
I like to look.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
I did a DEXI scan the other night and I was,
what was it, nineteen fat at three eighty.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
He's three idiot ninety percent of my fan I think
the crazy thing we're we're doing some some some auxiliary
work for the push press. Hold on.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
People don't understand you s don't get that. You're three
hundred and eighty pounds at nineteen percent, so you're basically
lean body mash. You're like three hundred and twenty pounds.
If you were to lose all your body fat, you'd
weigh three hundred and twenty pounds. Freaking nuts.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
It's that amount almost huh che quite large. But it's
just like you're just kind of laughing because you know,
three eighty at nineteen percent. That's pretty lean. That What
I was saying is he was doing his work and
I'm videoing the shot and you can he's wearing an
orange shirt. You can see his six pack through the
(09:04):
shirt because it's pulled tight in his belts on, which
that's kind of gnarly, dude.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Really, Yeah, that's that's that's studley.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
That's the I can't wait till we're just diving down
to He's like about three forty five full shred at
six packs. That looks pretty hard. That's that's that's that's
post strong man.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
So you're gonna do bodybuilding after this tray if I
could stick to the diet. Okay, So that's out. No cheese, Yeah, yeah, no,
it's yeah. I'm looking. I'm excited to see what goes
on the shire. So you got the elephant bar deadlift,
what's next.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
It's the press medley. So it's a like roughly two
sixty five to two seventy stone, a two thirty sirt stumbbell,
and then you've got choices between your your logs. I
think it's a three eighty log and a four to
twenty log. So yeah, we're not going to mess three
eight level going for Yeah, I mean the final event
(10:06):
on day one is the frame carry. We look at
that as a nemesis.
Speaker 5 (10:12):
So grip is getting better, but like it's still you know,
it needs to needs to get to a higher level.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
You know.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
The thing is like you know, with the injury he
had within his neck, and it's like just that downward pull,
it just opens his hand up. If we had a
Hercules hold, I'd be totally fine. Sure, wrecking ball hole,
totally fine. You know this, We're working on it. He's
been training the crap out of it.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
You know.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
You know how it goes with grip though you you
push it a little too hard. Now it's overtrained. So
it's just that fine line and you know we're gonna
we're gonna work out hard this weekend. We got a
lot of good grip guys. Hit a big frame this weekend. Obviously,
we don't have a ramp to walk up. And like
you said, I think you had mentioned that, it's like,
you know, from a walking up the hill standpoint, I
(10:54):
worry about the Achilles, right, you know at this point though,
I mean, if he picks it up when it takes
one step, that's one more point than we did last time.
That's a pr and okay.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Yeah, you can also.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Go ahead, go ahead as all contests, you know, Nick,
it's about looking at the events, mitigating damage, and maximizing
your success. Yeah, your top five if you average the
top five every event you're on the putting the average
the top three, or you want no for sure, you
know what we got to get done.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Mhm. One thing you could also just I mean, there's
so many grocery stores around you could just throw the
frame in the back of a truck and head to
a grocery store if you want to get used to that,
because the bay of the grocery store is the same
angle as the ram so I mean, if you want to.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
Unfortunately, we are in Detroit and there's like an inch
and an inch of ice out there, so I think
that's slightly prohibitive.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Yeah, that's not gonna be Goody.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
You know, take a step in his lodge.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Yeah, I mean that would be bad.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I mean, we don't have it's time Vegas like you,
and it gets cold. It's like forty degrees.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah yeah, it's uh, it's it's nice. It's about sixty
eight to day.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Yeah, yeah, thanks, it's it's like twenty two here in snow.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
Oh well it's simple move.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Well praise in Texas. So he's good. I'm in so
it is.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
To visit me.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Yeah, I got to visit him next. Yeah, but mom's
gonna put some gravy on my taters.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
That's it, okay, Yeah, yeah, that's that's a that's why
you're getting weight.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Day day Well, when he comes here, he gains weight
because I make him eat all his like he came downstairs.
He's like, comes walking downstairs. I just put the protein
shake on the counter and there's the fruit.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yeah. You do that to me too, So that's okay
you to everybody I do that's a good coach almost.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
H But that'll end day one, day two behind the
big jerk. H. So that's uh, that's gonna be interesting.
What do you what are you saying? What do you think?
What do you think is the number to beat? I'm
gonna be honest, five seventy five, six hundred pounds. That's
kind of what I was thinking.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Because I'm seeing some of these guys already throwing, like
you know, throwing five fifty and doing reps with five hundred.
I mean, Trey's doing reps with five hundred, So it's
it's gonna be. It's it's gonna be. We're gonna see
like a new world record over what they did at
World Strongest Man a few years back, where they did
like five forty five or no, did like five forty It's.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Gonna get broken several times.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah, they'll probably get booked by three four people, maybe
maybe even five. So I'm expecting somewhere in there. I
remember seeing ku Kliev do is six hundred that way
back in the day. Yes, so, I mean I think
it's possible. I think it's very possible. I think a
(14:04):
couple other guys can get right up there.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Just looking at the training and Hattan comes from an
Olympic lifting background. His fled jerk is pretty solid. You
know who was working his and it looks good. You know,
just gonna be who has it that day and it's
the first event, day two. How much he is that
from the first day, right? How much are your legs
that from the first day, like you said, I think
they'll be. I think five to fifty is going to
(14:28):
go down. I think there's four or five guys that
have the capacity to do that. But again we'll just see.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Yeah, and like I said, I think somewhere between seventy
five and six hundred. If guys are firing off to
where they're hitting the five fifty, I think you're gonna
see it get up in the range, depending on do
you know how they're going to make you do the attempts.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
We're getting four tips trying to jacky to keep it fast,
since that all the other events are going to be
like two minutes long as they're trying to do the
split jerk.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Right right, I got you, So yeah, with four attempts,
we could see that it's gonna kind of depend who
hits what on their third attempts and where they go
from there. You know, if guy's gonna all try to
be right in that same spot or they're you're gonna
have somebody just goes now, I'm just gonna put this
(15:21):
out of reach right away. So it's gonna be an
interesting strategy to see however he.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Gets through it.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
It really is. It'll be fun. I think somebody comes
in and drops the hammer early on the second or
third attempt and really just goes for it when they're
still got a bunch of power.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
It could be you know, we're looking at the rule
translated the rules right now, I don't know if it's
a rising bar. So it's a rising bar and you
want to put it out there, but you know, you're
at three seventy five and maybe some guys take some stuff.
Maybe it'd be the big press or doesn't jump into
till two hundred and fifty keyos right right, So I
I it's gonna be interesting to see because it's like,
(16:01):
you know, if if Hatton comes in and starts and
opens with five twenty and then goes five to sixty
like you said five, Like I'm thinking, you know, two
fifty to sixty two hundred and seventy kilos, I mean,
that's gonna be that's gonna be crazy. Yeah, I think
(16:23):
we'll see. I mean it's just, yeah, who's who's gonna pick,
Who's gonna pick what weight? So we'll just kind of
see on that right the second.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
It'll be an interesting strategy, and it'll be interesting to
see what the coaches do with the strategies as well,
helping the guys pick them.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Here's the thing when I look at that, like for Trey, yes,
points matter, but I do think you know, getting a
pr I mean you go to an here's the thing.
If you go to a contest, you pr everything, you
get last, or you're unhappy your pr everything. So I
just I want to see the best performance. And that's
what we're shooting for, the best performance for Tree and
whoever that falls, that's gonna fall. I'd like to see
(17:00):
him say yeah, I want whenever event, but yeah me too.
There's there's there's nine other guys that want to kick
your asss So we're gonna take every event as it
is and do the best we can.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
That's the event on day one.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
Day two is loading medley with two logs onto a
sled and the back backwards drag was the sled.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
That's going to be that'll be spicy.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
I think it'll makes it spicy because no one's how
do you get train for its? Like the notes say, basically,
it's like a here's a like literally like a ten
foot log with a chain in a handle. So are
you duck walking it? Can you pull it a little higher?
Speaker 2 (17:39):
You know? How much?
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Is it banging off your quads? And you got to
run back grab another one? Then you got to drag
the whole implement back. So I think you know.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
So where's the where's the chain on the log? Is
it on the end or is in the middle.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
I think from what it sounded like, it sounds like
it's like like chain and it comes up into like
a handle. Okay, so and again no one's seen it yet.
So it's like we're training with logs, we're training with sandbags,
we're training with tea, with with t bars. You know,
we'll trade with whatever, just to try a variety. Yeah, prepared. Yeah,
lots of dragging, you know, the thing is lots of dragging.
(18:14):
I think this is going to be one where weight
is definitely a factor. Get fully sled, fully loading. You
start dragging backwards, you mean you gotta have enough ass
to get it going.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Yeah. What type of surface is it going to be
on to you? Guys know, if it's on the concrete,
then you need to go buy some new shoes too.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Like the air floats, they are pretty grippy, but like
I've been told.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Like.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
I think your tears would be good or rock climbing.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
M go to a skateboard store. Skateboard store, Yeah, go
to a skateboard store and find some like the vans
that have this rubber that's really soft. Yeah, and grippy
that it goes this way, not this way. The slots
go this way.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
And you know what else is? You know I think
of and I used to do this tennis shoes for
like clay court tennis shoes because they don't have to
pick up dust. But I find your idea on the Vans.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
So yeah, so because that stuff, I got a pair
here that I bought. God what in thirteen before the
what size shoes you wear? Twelve?
Speaker 4 (19:25):
What size shoes you wear thirteen? Thirteen? It's funny, you know,
I forgot to tell you this because Nikki, you came
at OSG and you dump your shoes in my bag.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
And they're still sitting in my bag.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
Oh cool, I've got a fair shoes. But hey, if
they fit, I think they're Vans, I'll just stick them
on his feet. Well, see if they were.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Those those might actually do okay on the drag. Those
are pretty good shoes for that as well.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
It's a pretty nice shoes. So I actually owe you
the shoes, and I totally forgot about bringing them back
to you.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
That's okay. Well, I haven't officially unretired yet because I
haven't got to a contest in one piece until you
have to get them back to me.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
This officially officially unretired.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Correct or something like that. So yeah, I'll be I'll
be back at door SG this year. So it'll be cool.
Maybe I'm seeing up pretty good.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Hey, if I can get everything healthy, we we'll do it.
Maybe we can retire together. You know, I'll tell you
that I'm fucking retiring. I won't surprise you with it.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Okay, well I didn't. That was you know what, I know,
I know. But yeah, I'm yeah, definitely coming back this year.
So it's gonna be a lot of fun and starting
to work on the on the things now. So so
just remember mobility.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
If there's a Viking press, I just want you to
know I'm still going to beat you.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
We'll see just what.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
We can walk at their elbows.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Yeah, yeah, neither one of us. Are you going to
lock out the elbows all the way? Would just.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
The last event at the Arnold is going to be
stoned to shoulder. Yeah. So now the crazy thing is
the rules say it's a two.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
And a half minute event.
Speaker 4 (21:10):
That's a long ass time.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
I mean it's going to be some conditioning and how
heavy is the stone going to be? H? Four hundred,
four hundred, no TACKI you have to keep going back
and forth or.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Is it just a trump stone? You know, so you
pick a four hundred if.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
You want, if you do one rep on the four
hundred trumps anything on the three fifty, you know, like
they've done with the laws.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Yeah, I would almost think you'd want to go like
four hundred and four sixty three to fifty for any
of the guys in the Arnold is going to be.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Like stupid light. I will say this. I've watched a
lot of videos. There's a lot of people having some
issues with it.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
So we'll see, I mean, we'll see. I'm not complaining
because I know, I mean crazy natural stone. He squeezes
very hard.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Even with that.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
In perfect world we do without the tacky.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
You know, that makes a lot of.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
People taching town.
Speaker 5 (22:12):
You know, just to chalk, Yeah, you know, being able
to you know, practicing so much was out the you
know tacky. You know, just using chalk like that allowed
me to squeeze it, you know, squeeze the stone onto
the forums actually, you know, getting the upper body stronger
instead of relying on the tacky and like I'm really
explosive on stone lifting to be able to you know,
(22:33):
go from the lap to up here pretty quickly.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
You know, that allows it to roll a lot quicker.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Yeah, I think you're going to be just fine with
all that.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
I think, what what my trepidation with the event is
this two and a half minutes long and it's the
sixth event, and I just think that opens up as
the potential for injury goes higher.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
I think the biggest issue that that will be with
guys passing out.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Yeah, well your chest is that's an injury.
Speaker 2 (23:04):
You know.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
I know, I'm not worried about him because I mean,
I know that he's right.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
But I think two and a half will depending on
when he goes. I mean, if he goes and he's
near the end, if not last, he'll just do whatever
he needs to do, right, you know. If not, he's
just going to go out and goes do as many
as he needs, as many as he can, which.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
I'm just I'm just saying right now, if it's two
and a half minutes of the four poundstone, he might
do ten rows, right, and.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
It's I would expect no less.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
And the thing is is the next three we know
what's coming. The next three weeks. There's a lot of
conditioning to dial that conditioning down so that you know what,
when you're looking at energy substrate utilization and what you're burning,
he's going to be ready because we're going to be
very anaerobic and very aerobically ready to go.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Not worry about that. Then you just go have fun. Yeah,
you just go out and have a good time.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
And then look and you know with the slater stone,
so a lot of times those slater stones are a
little uh, they're field.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Sore, which means you gotta which means they actually stick
to them better.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
It's with attacking now I think again everyone's gonna have
a tacky towel. So I still think it's gonna come
down to who can squeeze it the most and nothing.
And again just like again, I watch everyone's videos, so
looking the taller athletes, can they get that full extension
and get it up? Yeah, it's it's a long Yeah,
that's a long ley. That's a long way to move.
(24:40):
So you know, six four sixty ten, You know there
are some advantages.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
That we'll see the interest you know, damn well there's yeah,
well it'll be the well, that's the interesting thing. This
will be the first time a stone event actually doesn't
favor somebody who's tall exactly. Most of the time with
Atlas stones, the taller you are, the easier there. Actually
(25:05):
you only got to get it up to your to
your belly button, you know, or or less to get
on the podium, you know, if you're Brian or Thor
or Dave Oceland or any of those guys. Whereas now
you've got to get all the way up on your shoulder,
and now you've got to go the further distance right
instead of everybody else.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
We'll take any advantage we can get on that. So
it's going to be an interesting show.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Mm hm, it's gonna be really interesting. So where do
you see some of the other guys's weaknesses, like Lucas,
for instance, where do you see his weakness being? Where
where would you make up points on Lucas from.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Asking both of you, I'll let you answer question. I don't.
Speaker 5 (25:54):
I don't like to talk bad about any about it else.
But maybe Lucas, like he's he's a litle bit bigger guy.
You know, he's probably not gonna be too quick on
the medleys, on the sledge, the loading sled drag Medley.
I think he might lose there. He does have you know,
some ass on him to where he could be able
to move the sledge, be able to drag the sledge.
(26:16):
But uh yeah, I think the what's going to kill
him is the runs in between the loading.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Right, No, yeah, just going back and forth. Yeah, I
could see that, you know.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
I think I think Lucas has a has a good
package and it's just gonna come down. Can you leave
it all on the field. You know, he's got experience,
He's compete at the highest level. I think he's really talented,
you know, I know, alf to have him ready, Uh,
where's he gonna miss the points? It's like, you know,
that's kind of we're gonna have to wait and see.
(26:49):
Is the deadlift is he where's he gonna pull on
the deadlift? You know? Is he gonna lose some points there?
The press? I mean, here's the thing, the press Medley.
You know, he's pretty fast, you know, and he's very powerful.
So I see there's a there's like a three four
horse race on that one. M h. If I look
at the frame again, he's got a decent grip. How
(27:09):
does that work? Is he going to be able to
finish that. You know that that's going to be that's
where he could pick up some points.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Yeah, and then how's the first how's the second step
or third step in go? Because most guys are not
prepared when they go from the flat surface and they
either step on the crack or step over it too far,
and you see that third step always messes people up,
(27:36):
and it's like, how are you going to recover from
that third step when you go from the flat part
to the to the upper part. You know, if if
you're wearing you know, pretty decent Olympic shoes, it makes
up for that because the stiffness of the the shoe
with the lift in the shoe will help quite a
bit with that. But you know, it still throws people
(27:57):
off when they hit that crack on accident. It'll be interesting.
You can't look down to see it. That's the cool part.
Speaker 4 (28:04):
There's there's so many good athletes. Then I think it's
just I think this is probably the level of playing
field I've seen in a while, as far as no
one's gonna run away with it. I mean, I look, yeah,
is very good. You know, who's going to give us
the least amount of points is basically it's all about
(28:25):
it's all about mitigation of poor of your poor events.
Mm hmm. And that's I really think. So everyone's well.
Someone said we had a post. I was like, there's
no way if you don't have Thor in the top three.
It's like, I just think Thor is gonna give up.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
He could win.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
Four events, but give up so many points on two
events that that drops him down, right.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
It's it's kind of like, oh, I don't know the
Atlas Stone and the Arnold. There's a couple of guys
that you know did well, one in particular that did
phenomenally well on everything, but he ended up, like I
for sixth. They're tied for seventh in the Stone, and
it removes your ability from winning, right, So even though
(29:07):
you can your first or second and all the rest
of the events. So it's it's one of those things
where you just got to mitigate, you know that the one.
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Rough event so well, and you look, I mean, what
Tom has a new coach. What's Tom going to bring
the table? Is he gonna pick up something? Is he
gonna pick up much needed points in the deadlift?
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Right?
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Where's his press at where's his behind press that. I mean,
there's just so many unanswered and I think that's why
do you compete. You're gonna go compete to find out.
I mean, I always laugh because like you and I've
been competing for a million years, just like I want
to beat you on your best day. And I think
that's going to happen here at the Arnold. Whoever, when's
this Arnold? You're gonna this year is going to be
(29:46):
I think the most competitive you're in strongment I've ever seen,
because there's so many guys that are capable of winning.
It's just a matter of you know what It's like.
It's like putting the whole package together, having the condition,
having a strength, having the endurance. You know, is your
nutrition on point? You know, all that stuff. And it's
gonna be very interesting to see.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Oh I can't wait. It's gonna be fun. I'm gonna
be sitting there all day watching.
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Hey, I will sawn. Trey and I talk about some
all times, Like you know, this year it's the year
of the Big Show and we're we're hunting for podium spots,
right and I think that's the that's the goal for
the year, and you know, keep working towards that, every
every training session, just improving, consistently improving. I mean it's
(30:30):
like it's not like I mean, he's thirty one, it's
not like he's old. But he's still got a lot
of room. The crazy thing is his frame has a
lot of room to grow.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Why can't even start strong Minu until I was thirty six?
Speaker 4 (30:41):
I remember, Nick, I remember.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Before that? Yeah, yeah, I was already world championship. First
strong was our show, your first strong Man show, second
your Your's.
Speaker 4 (30:58):
In two thousand and five, that was my second show. Yeah,
he brings Dylan and so Dylan and Breeze my son
are running around like you know, two little hooligans and
around downtown Cocomon and Nick literally he I think he
won every event, but the log and that cast you
the whole context.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Yeah, yeah, I lost my point.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Yeah, he lost my point because of the log, And
I'm like, dude, you just got to go doing You
got to get that. It's like van shows, come up,
say go hit Van show because I'm beats everybody at
Van show.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
So that was I didn't need to do the Stones
at Van show. Pretty cool. The last event, yeah, it
was neat at child show because I didn't know I
was that good at the Farmers and then we took off.
He said go and I was like done, and I
(31:49):
was like, okay, cool.
Speaker 4 (31:53):
He had to. You know, it's the defensive end speed.
You still have speed, that's what's scary.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Yeah, it was. It was cool, and the deadlift did well.
I knew I wasn't going to beat Bergman in the
deadlift because I think he did twelve. He needed eight
to get into second. So I pulled eight and stopped.
And I don't remember the name of the guy who
he needed one deadlift. He needed one rep to beat
me by a point, and he with like ten seconds ago,
(32:21):
he pulled that rep and got me. Lynn Sutherland. He
was from Kentucky.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
And that's funny because he was he was cracking at
that pro card for like four years.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
He gets it, I don't.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
I don't know if he ever competed afterwards.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
I don't remember seeing it anywhere.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
After that, But then, well then you saw Bergman and
Bergman competed for quite What's funny is Bergman came over
to Kokomo in two thousand and three. He was getting it.
He's doing his masters at Purdue and he heard about
us and he came over and training. It was like
the day he came to training, it was like Schoonfeld, Auceland,
Jim Glassman, I mean, Brian Brianne, you know. So he
(33:01):
came in there and like and he's about my size.
I'm like and it was like wow, and I'm like, dude,
you have such a future. And well, yeah, three years
later he's a world times man.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Yeah, twenty ten. Mm hmm. We were on the Yeah,
we went the same year, we made the finals the
same year.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
I think he went like three or four times. Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Yeah. I think he went at least three. So he's man.
That guy was freaking solid all the way around.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
He was all the way around. Great athlete, great athlete.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
I remember him watching watching him drop the ifs of
shield and he just snatched it off the ground. It
landed flat. That thing is so hard to get your
fingers under to pick it up off the ground. And
I remember him at Venice Beach just yanking it back
up off the ground and I was just like, and
(33:51):
he picks it up and finishes the finishes the race.
But he was absolutely flying with it when he dropped.
But yeah, he was. He was one heck of a competitor.
Good dude, too, good dude.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Yea, all all those Midwest guys we've got I've got
it going on here. Yeah, all those dudes up from Wisconsin,
Pete Conrad and Bergman and old Matt. Why not the
cheese wheel and remember Tony's ribbons. I'm from I was
born in Rockford, so yeah, I know that in Illinois.
(34:23):
That's for all the people who don't know Midwest geography.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
But it's good stuff. But I'm just excited to see
what Trey's doing. I love watching his training. I love
looking at the videos and stuff like that. And I
love what you're getting set up at your place out there.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
And oh yeah it's coming wrong really nice. Yeah, gotta
like a full like what would you say is a
half set. It's like the dumbbells from I got a
set of dumbbells from ten to three hundred pounds and tennents.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
Wow, you can come and you know, do your shrugs
and your they come hit three hundred pounds dumbells for ardills.
Speaker 2 (35:03):
All right, go have to come do that. I'll take
that as an invite to come out to your place anytime.
And uh when you're when you're in between shows, I'll
come out there and we'll have.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
Some Well, actually we've been talking about like the training camps,
like having a training camp in Texas, you know, doing
a couple of days at his place and doing a
couple of plays over in Awesome Metal where the San
Antonio with Austin Androtti and Nick Guardian, you know, guys.
(35:36):
I mean, what's fun is like this weekend and we've
done this now like Brian would do it, and it's
funny because we used to do this every weekend back
when we were young. Every weekend was like young because
I was always older than you when you're you know,
we used to have like you know, five or six
or seven pros come out and you just get after it.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Like this weekend.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
I mean, Lesley Drwinsky's coming across from from Open in Canada.
Tristan's flying out, so Tristan Hoath. So we've got two
guys were the top ten of the world last year
at Wil's arms Man. They're coming out to train. You know,
Bryce Johnson who just got second, and he's coming up.
Nick worthan one of my other guys, he's coming up.
Dylan Gardner one of my other guys who's he's coming
(36:20):
up and he's going to strong Man Champions League Ice
Iceman Challenge in a couple of weeks. So you know,
we've got a hell of a group of guys coming
up to train to push tray and everyone's here for
one reason to push tray. So he has some great performance.
So I think that's the camaraderie, that's the fellowship of
strong Man that that you and I grew up with.
That I think kind of left the sport for a
(36:42):
while but has really came back. These guys. It's just
it's just so much. I mean, as an old guy,
it's kind of fun to sit and watch, and you know,
all I need to do is I got load plates
and coach a little bit.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
And you know it too.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Uh No, I'm I'm gonna train on Friday so I
can focus on my job, which I'm a coach. I mean,
I'm an athlete, but at this point, it's about the coaching.
It's about getting my guys prepped.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Does that mean if I come out I got a
train both days?
Speaker 4 (37:13):
Sure, the old guy's day. You can still here's the deal, Nick,
you can still deadlift with these guys. You know, I'm
just I'm a little more broken, so I can't do
a whole lot, especially after having that knee procedure.
Speaker 2 (37:28):
Right.
Speaker 4 (37:29):
I did deadlift one eighty five for multiple sets yesterday.
That was good.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
I just started doing it again too. I got to
I can start to hold onto the bar pretty a
lot better.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Sunday, what did you and West?
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Do you know like that?
Speaker 3 (37:46):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (37:47):
We we We did the chasing nick best. We loaded
the hammer strength up. That's awesome, and then we did
an eight minute an eight minute am rap. It was
I go, you go for eight minutes. We end up
doing like I think I did seventy eight sets or
seventy eight reps. He did like ninety five reps. And
(38:07):
like the next day, like two days later, it's like, dude,
how you feel Like, dude, I'm so my upper back
is so wrecked. We warmed up, loaded up and just
went to town and it was it was a great workout.
It was kind of like kind of jacked up.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Well yeah, yeah, that'll that'll do it.
Speaker 4 (38:27):
And then the other day, like we were doing I
forgot to tag him in the post, but he's like
five eighty and he's just sitting there doing like it's
like this.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Yeah, he's just cruisy. What the fuck?
Speaker 3 (38:37):
I know it's the machine and my jam just yet,
but like I should don't keep up with you?
Speaker 2 (38:44):
Right, we're gonna have to change that to chracing cha
chasing tray chasing train because one.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Of those by and put in his garage.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
You gotta see when you go to his gym, it's
like he's got a back attack. He's got an inverse
leg crew, he's got the he's got a power runner,
he's got a power lift, uh leg press. That's that
you can make intilateral you know the amount of toys
this guys hasn't and then dumbbells up to three hundred pounds.
I just want to go just to hang out and
train the gym.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
I wonder who's Jimmy was in that saw that stuff?
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Then I don't know.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
I would like just.
Speaker 3 (39:22):
See it on the internet that oh this looks cool,
that'll get me strong.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
Well, I will say I will say this. I think
his dumbbells are bigger than the big guys and nicer
and they're custod And if you see the big thicket
thing here that's got big, that says big thicket, right, on.
Speaker 5 (39:38):
I know I like that and half handles was uh,
you know black chair cod heads got the what's the logo?
What's the weight on them? And they rotate from Intech.
They're from intex Strength.
Speaker 2 (39:52):
A hell of a job, all right, Intech. Well yeah,
I can't wait to see those.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
Yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 5 (40:01):
Like, I haven't used the three hundreds just yet, so
if you get here before me, you know, I use them,
you'll you.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
Know you you got. I think we can uh, I
think we'll break him in. We'll start.
Speaker 4 (40:16):
Oh it's I'm just gonna sit aside and watch you
guys drinking my sweet tea.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
No no, no, no, no, no, no, no, you're in too, dude.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
I hate I'm gonna do the three pound dumble I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Well, you don't have to do the three hundred pound dumbbells.
But you're in for what you're in for. You don't
get to sit and hang out while we're training. You're
in there training with.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
If you're there, yeah, because the kids are over here
and then and then sure senior citizens are over here.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Right, That's what I said with us, But yeah, because
we'll be all of it.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Doesn't have verse, does he I don't think.
Speaker 4 (40:53):
I don't think Brian has an inverse like thrill, does
he not that he's got that pensulum slot though it's
pretty nice, and he's got like it's a I mean,
there's some really good gyms out there, and Trays is
kind of creeping up there to and he's just all
on Facebook marketplace.
Speaker 3 (41:13):
That's crazy.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
So Sirius shopping, Yeah, I know, I got to get
a couple more. You're gonna get a couple more pieces
for the garage and then I should be good.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
We set up one of those days where we get
a few guys to come down to Tray's house and
then do some serious content and videos.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
Oh yeah, yeah, no training videos.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
Maybe you guys should come down, like when we do
this this training camp in April, that would be a
good time to come down because then you can see
two gyms. You see Trays and you can go over
to San Antonio the Metal, which is where Austin and
Nick train. Hell of a gym and tim Ingram, who's
the owner there, is a great dude, great coach, you know,
just an awesome human being. You know. I think it's
(41:55):
a pretty cool place to go hang out.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
So Hell Yeah, go ahead a lot. Yeah, that'd be fun. Yeah,
just text me the dates and stuff like that. We'll
get some stuff set up.
Speaker 4 (42:10):
Let's get through this one and we'll get that one planned.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
All right.
Speaker 1 (42:15):
Well, you know what, we love having you guys on,
you know, especially talk about all the stuff that's getting
ready to happen, because we're looking forward to every one
of these shows, every one of these events, and god damn,
I can't wait to see this the everyone getting his
shoulder lift off. And you know what, we always end
the show in with Nick saying his favorite lines, and
(42:37):
you know what, Nick, let it.
Speaker 3 (42:38):
Let the people know, Nick goes.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
I want to give a shameless promotion out to Tray's
nutrition coach Nathan Peyton and Nathan I just want to
say that because I have a degree in nutrition. I
hired Nathan. I learned so much from him. He's probably
the best guy out there doing exactly what he's doing.
I was he is the best guy out there. There's
other people that imitate, but they're not as good. He's
(43:04):
a phenomenal coach. And you know what, just dialing his
nutrition in, you know, for losing weight after he tore
his achilles rampant back up. You know, there's nobody out
there doing it better than Nathan, so you can actually
hit him up there or just a shamelessly plugged Shaw
Strength because he's got a new app and he's got
Nathan's doing the nutrition and then coach Joe Ken is
(43:25):
doing the training. I think that's pretty freaking awesome, you know,
you know, that's a great place to go for knowledge,
shameless and do that.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
Now, if Nathan talks you, you should listen. I mean,
the guys, he's about as knowledgeable as you're gonna find
literally anywhere. And if he doesn't know the answer, there
is no answer. So that's just the way I see it. Yeah. Yeah,
(44:00):
So he's helped me quite a bit with some advice
he's given me about what I eat with having one
kidney and stuff like that, so I really appreciate it.
It helps allow me to do what I'm doing with
keeping my blood work right. So it's it's pretty awesome.
So but you got anything else trade before we wish
you good luck, no.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
Thank you for having us on.
Speaker 5 (44:23):
You know, I'm looking forward to seeing y'all again, and like,
like I know, I'm gonna do well, like with you
know coming up at my competitions this year with Chat
in my corner and Nathan also and everybody else.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
Yeah, well I wish you nothing but the best of luck.
I really do. It's great to see you guys. I
cannot wait till this Arnold. So go you got to
check out the live stream. Do you know what the
live streams on for the Arnold? We haven't got that
information yet. It's like, okay, well it'll be it'll be out,
so whatever it's on.
Speaker 4 (44:57):
I thought it was. It wasn't on Roggie Channel.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
It was last year, so maybe again.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
So yeah, check there first. But like once we get
the information that will promote it so everybody can watch it.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
Yeah, so if you can't get to the Arnold, then
watch the live stream because it's gonna be one heck
of a show. And I can't thank you guys enough
for coming on. And there's always trained hard, train smart,
and be the best you can be. Thanks guys, thank
you
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Your your fantastic experience with
