From studio to a in Minneapolis,Minnesota. This is the Big Bucks Podcast,
presented by Game Show battle Rooms.Look online at gameshow battle Rooms dot
com. Game Show battle Rooms whereyou're in the game show and now here's
your host, Jake. Oh.Yes, it is good to be back.

(00:48):
Thank you, Ricky Gee. Welcometo the Big Bucks Podcast. Jak
with you here as we are backtalking game shows. Yes, it has
been a minute. It has been, in fact, about six weeks since
we have put out a show.Personal time for me, so thank you
so much for sticking with us hereon the Big Bucks Podcast. Needless to

(01:11):
say, we have a lot toget to let's get into it right now.
And since we've been gone, naturallya lot of things have happened.
We want to talk about Jeopardy Masters, which has been a phenomenal show,
a phenomenal series that has been happening, featuring six of the greatest Jeopardy players

(01:33):
of recent time, and it hasbeen a fun thing to watch. By
the time this podcast gets aired, they will have reached the final episode,
which is slated for Wednesday, Maytwenty fourth. I'm hoping to get this
out before then. We shall see, But May twenty fourth is the final

(01:55):
of Jeopardy Masters. It has beenfun, it has been entertaining, and
quite honestly, the ratings have beenphenomenal. They have been crushing it.
They were getting the hot Jeopardy Matchis getting the highest ratings for any Jeopardy
since the Goat Tournament final. Thatis awesome. Good for you, Jeopardy.
Keep doing these kind of things, keep letting Ken Jennings host and continue

(02:22):
making this a strong, strong seriesgoing forward. And speaking of Jeopardy,
Myambiolic again not a huge fan ofhosting, she has announced that she did.
When it comes to the Writers GuildAssociation strike, which I'm going to

(02:42):
talk about here momentarily, the wGA strike, she has stepped down from
her post temporarily for the final week. Ken Jennings will take over for that
final week of taping, So that'llbe a couple dozen episodes. I would
imagine good for the show, badfor Myambiolic, But and I don't mean
bad for her, because I appreciatethat she's supporting the writers. And I

(03:04):
think a lot of us are onthe side of the writers because that's what
keeps shows going like Jeopardy. SoI appreciate that but it will be Ken
Jennings in the spotlight for the finalfew regular season weeks. And when we
talk about the Writers Guild Association strikesagain, we had this happen and what

(03:25):
was it two thousand and seven ortwo thousand nine. There are a lot
of shows that were affected by this, including things like Lost Heroes. Dozens
of big name shows that got massivelyhurt by this. Jeopardese the show that
heavily relies on writing, and whenit came to the strike last time,

(03:45):
game shows as a whole benefited fromthis. It depends what the show is.
Things like The Prices Right took overprime time every week for a long
time. We got a lot ofspecials out of it because it doesn't really
rely on writers Jeopardy US. Sowhen it comes to a game show angle
for the Writer's Guild Association strike,it can have a profound effect in both

(04:10):
directions. It can help for certainshows, it can absolutely hurt for others.
So something to keep an eye on. This WGA strike doesn't seem to
be stopping anytime soon. Drew Carey, on the other hand, has been
pretty awesome when it comes to thisstrike. He's actually picking up dinner tabs
for striking writers at Bob's Big Boyin Burbank. In a tweet, the

(04:33):
host of The Prices Right said thatstrikers, quote show your WGA card at
Bob's a Big Boy in Burbank orSwingers Diner on Beverly near Fairfax, and
your meal is free for the durationof the strike. Dine in only.
Tip included hashtag WG a strong WJAstrike. Spread your word. That's awesome.

(04:55):
That's very cool of Drew Carey.Drew carry has been well known to
be a big tipper when it comesto going out, like it's no secret
that he will tip maybe like afifty or one hundred dollar bill on like
a cup of coffee or something likethat. He's an awesomely generous human being
and it is very cool of himto be doing this for Writers Guild Association
members. So there you go.Spread the word and hopefully we can get

(05:19):
this resolved soon. Now, whenit comes to ratings, ratings have been
very interesting and as of a fewweeks ago, I know we weren't doing
the show, but Split Second onGame Show Network has been just an outstanding
ratings boom for Game Show Network. Now Game Show Network has seen of rising

(05:46):
ratings all around. When it comesto Fox News Tucker Carlson being fired from
his position, Is that a coincidence? Probably not. Is that could for
game shows once again? Yes itis, Yes it is. Keep it
coming. So that's pretty cool thatGSN has a show in the top fifty

(06:08):
in the Nielsen rings, which honestlythey've never really had. That's amazing for
essentially a fringe cable network show.So good on you, Split Second,
keep on doing what you're doing.By the way I was gonna review Split
Second, didn't get to chance. It's a fun show. I'm actually surprised
at how good it is. Ithink it's better than maybe we led it

(06:30):
to believe for a show that reallyisn't all that great in the first place.
I think they've done a pretty goodjob with it. I was worried
about the pacing, and the pacinghas been very good. So good on
you Game Show Network, and goodon John Michael Higgins to continue hosting outstanding
shows that come out of g sN. And while I'm trying to throw
a lot of heavy hitters at youthat we've tried to cover for the last

(06:53):
month, real quick let's go overwhat you can do to get in touch
with the show. Hit us upon Twitter at big Bucks Podcast, Facebook
at big Bucks Podcast, and youcan email the show JK Says Radio at
gmail dot com. So let's talkabout ABC summer schedule. There's summer Fun

(07:14):
and Game schedule is out and it'skind of staggered. It's a little bit
staggered. It's a little bit different. Okay. So there's a special preview
of the Prank Panel featuring Johnny Knoxville. I don't know exactly what that's all
about. That it's gonna be comingout in May twenty fourth. It's a
special preview following the Jeopardy Masters seasonfinale. If you're in too, Judge

(07:36):
Steve Harvey, you can check thatout on Wednesdays. Going forward, things
like Claim to Fame return on Junetwenty sixth, Generation Gap and the Chase
return on June twenty ninth. CelebrityFeud and the one hundred thousand dollars Pyramid
come in July. Where's Press yourLuck? You ask, Well, they've

(07:58):
pushed that back to the fall, and that's not a bad thing because again
we talk about the Writers Guild Associationstrike and we got to fill time and
Pressure Luck is their biggest hit.And here at the at the Big Bucks
podcast, I one hundred percent agreewith that they are going to go with
Pressure Luck in the fall, whichis awesome. Look at ABC's real quick

(08:24):
look at ABC's fall TV season. This is when every network goes big with
their shows. Monday Night Dancing withthe Stars for two hours, followed by
The Golden Bachelor, all Reality TVTuesday, Celebrity Jeopardy at eight, Bachelor
in Paradise at nine, game showsand Reality TV Wednesdays Judge Steve Harvey at
eight. Reruns of Abbott Elementary theirbiggest hit of the scripted season reruns at

(08:50):
nine to nine thirty, followed byWhat would You Do? At ten o'clock?
Interesting Night Thursday Night, It isgame show. This is awesome.
ABC in the fall schedule is puttingout game shows on Thursday Night. How
awesome is that? The big nightof television eight o'clock Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,

(09:11):
nine o'clock, Pressure Luck, teno'clock, The one hundred thousand dollars
Pyramid. Wow, that's amazing.Do you ever think you'd see that?
Fall TV Primetime ABC three Game showsthat is amazing. Friday Night Shark Tank,
which has been absolutely stellar when itcomes to Friday night time slot and

(09:35):
ABC Shark Tank's been doing this forwhat fifteen years now, they're still running
strong on Friday nights, followed bytwo hours of twenty twenty Saturday College Football
Saturday Night and Sunday America's Funny It'sHome Videos. And this is interesting too.
It's not game show related, butthere's a three hour block on Sunday
Night dedicated to the Wonderful World ofDisney my child thanks you. Oh my

(10:01):
goodness, that is a throwback tomy childhood, no doubt about it.
On Sunday nights, the Wonderful Worldof Disney, three hours starting at eight
o'clock Eastern on Sunday nights. I'msure that's gonna be dedicated to movies or
a series of some sort. Idon't know exactly what they're going to be
doing with that. My guess isthey'll run a movie, Disney movie every
Sunday night. That's pretty cool.So there he goes. That is ABC's

(10:26):
fall schedule. Now NBC's fall scheduleis a little different, a little more
scripted, but there are a coupleof big things to note when it comes
to NBC. First off, passwordhas been redewed. There's going to be
a second season a password that shouldshock absolutely nobody. But Jimmy Fallon is

(10:54):
siding with the Writers Guild Association hereand he will not do any new episodes
until the strike is taken care of. Admirable, no problem. We're going
to get more Password from Jimmy Fallonand Kicky Palmer. Again, as we
talked about with Password in my reviewpreviously on the Game Shoot or on the
Big Bucks podcast, we could usea little less Jimmy Fallon. Let's let's

(11:16):
tone it down a load. Ilike Jimmy Fallon, but let's tone it
down by about three or four notches. And then, secondly, possibly the
weirdest thing I've seen, maybe allyear for NBC. Deal or No Deal
is coming back. Now, pumpthe brakes on this just for a moment.

(11:39):
Deal or No Deal is returning. But it's going to be drastically different
and it sounds insert your synonym forawful. Here. We're transporting audiences to
the banker's private island where he makesthe rules, and there are twists left

(12:00):
and right hidden on the island areone hundred cases with millions of dollars split
between them. Teams must retrieve themso they can play a game of Dealer
No Deal against the banker. Onlyone team will survive until the very last
episode, World will compete to beatthe banker in the biggest prize Dealer nodeal
history. This sounds like an absolutedumpster fire in the making, So it

(12:28):
sounds like some sort of Survivor meetsDealer No Deal sort of. They're just
gonna play one episode of Dealer.I don't I don't get it. I
don't know what they're thinking here orwhy this is a thing. Just bring
back the show. Why don't youjust bring back the show. I don't
understand. I don't understand, andquite honestly, I don't care to understand.

(12:50):
I think it's weird. All right, A couple more things to get
to here, because again we've beenoff for a bit. You know who
James O'Halloran is. Yeah, heis the Australian male model on the Price
is right. He's been doing thatfor a long time. It's maybe,
I don't know, seven eight years, it's been a while. Well,
he is going to be joining HallmarkMedia and star in a film when Love

(13:16):
Springs, his first leading role infirst film for them. He is going
to be doing that. His lookfits the bill, and his acting.
I have no idea. All Iknow is that he's going to be in
a movie for Hallmark. So takethat as you will, because I'm fairly
certain all Hallmark movies are exactly thesame. So there's a thing, And

(13:43):
if you enjoy Hallmark movies, youcan email the show at JK Says Radio
at gmail dot com or you canfind me on Twitter at big Bucks Podcast.
Let me know your thoughts on that. Go look to James in that
role. One other thing I neglectedto get to and this has been fun.
There's a show on ABC, adocuseries, a four part docu series

(14:07):
called The Game Show Show. It'sbeen fun to watch. It really has.
It is basically highlighting the history ofgame shows and it's got all kinds
of guest speakers. There's actually acouple of people all that are a part
of this that I am. Iam working with to try and schedule an

(14:28):
interview over the next couple months,So keep that in the back of your
minds for future Big Bucks Podcast episodes, but check it out. You can
find it on Hulu right now.The Game Show Show. It's on ABC
new episodes. I don't even knowwhat day it's on, I want to
be honest with you, but there'sonly two lefts. So it's a neat
little insight to game shows for thoselike myself. Honestly, there's not a

(14:52):
lot there that I didn't already knowor nothing that's really surprising. But it's
actually very cool to watch because Icould watch the same things about game shows
over and over because they are fascinatingto me. So check it out The
Game Show Show, ABC and Huluright now. And then finally, while

(15:13):
we were away for the last fewweeks, Jamie Fox was hospitalized, actor
and host of the Fox game showBeat Shazam. He was hospitalized, and
no one really knows why. It'sbeen kept under wraps until very recently,
and again it's all speculation, buthe was filming something for Netflix. Mike

(15:39):
Tyson has weighed in and he claimsthat Jamie Fox suffered a stroke that led
to his hospitalization. It makes sense, although I wouldn't put a lot of
stock into things that Mike Tyson hasto say, but nonetheless, And look,
it's not relevant what he has, what happened, it's not relevant.

(16:02):
He is currently rehabbing right now.And if it's a stroke, it's a
stroke. It doesn't matter. Whatmatters is that Jamie Fox is going to
be okay, and hopefully that isthe case. So I and hopefully most
of you wish Jamie Fox well inhis recovery because it could be a long

(16:23):
road from the Soundsman. Could bea long road as far as Beat Sazam
goes. They have on a replacementfor both Jamie Fox and his wife,
Karin Fox, who is the DJon this show, Kelly Osbourne. Yep,

(16:44):
that Kelly Osbourne's gonna be filling inas DJ for Karin Fox and the
new host temporary guest host. Ishould say Nick Cannon, and it's I
don't watch the show. I'm gonnabe honest. I don't watch Beat Sam.
I watched it in its first season. It was fine, it was
okay, if you like it,great, that's cool. Not my kind

(17:07):
of thing. But Nick Cannon, who I don't understand the infatuation with him,
and I feel like more people areannoyed by him than others. He's
going to be guest hosting starting tonight. I do believe Tuesday, May twenty

(17:29):
three, I think, So takethat for what you will. So check
that out beat Shazam with Nick Cannonand Kelly Osborne as they try to give
away a million dollars to people whoknow their songs, who know their songs.
So there you go, Jamie Fox. I wish you the best of

(17:51):
luck in your recovery. All right, So when we return, we stick
with the theme of ABC's summer Funand games. I've already done one for
a show called The Hustler. Iwant to do the same thing. Was

(18:14):
It Good? I want to talkabout twenty nineteen's version of Card Sharks.
It lasted two seasons. We willtalk about it. Was it good?
Card Sharks? Coming up on thenext segment right here on the Big Bucks
Podcast. Stick around back on theBig Bucks Podcast, JK with you here.

(19:10):
Before we jump into our was ItGood segment, let me talk about
game show battle Rooms, our sponsorhere at the Big Bucks Podcast, Game

(19:53):

Game Show Battrooms, but the mostimport and things that you enjoy yourself.
You make lots of noise, youhave lots of fun. It is an
engaging game show experience with a producer, with a host, with the lights,
the ambience, the sound to makeeverything emulate a game show. Check

(20:17):
it out, find one near you. Go to Game Show battle Rooms dot
com. Today. All right, let's talk about Card Sharks, the twenty
nineteen version of Card Sharks more specifically, and I did this with The Hustler.
That was a show that also gotcanned previously on ABC. So Shark

(20:40):
card Sharks twenty nineteen was it good? That is a loaded question for a
lot of these shows. But let'stalk about the premise. Here Joel McHale
was the host. He is aguy I love. He was on the
Soup when the soup got canceled orended its mass of run. And by
the way, Joel McHale is myfavorite soup post. I would record that

(21:03):
every week on It was hilarious. You did The Joel McHale Show with Joel
McHale on Netflix, which I thinkran for a season, which is basically
the same thing he's been on oneof my favorite sitcoms. Community. I've
seen him in stand up. Heis excellent. Love the guy, love
his sense of humor. But ishe the right fit for Card Sharks.

(21:27):
Well, let's talk about this versionof Card Sharks. We intro with a
massive casino looking set. It's toemulate a casino. You're playing with cards.
I get that, that's cool.I like the set. I think
the set's pretty good. Is itgreat? No, But it does the
job. It does exactly what youneed a set to do. And the

(21:49):
sense kind of a rounded The audiencesurrounds about a two hundred and seventy degrees
worth of seating, so it's thesame game with surveys and oversized cards.
We hear the theme song, aremix theme song that sounds very similar to

(22:12):
the original. But on these firstseveral episodes that I watched, I could
not help but think something with theaudio is massively screwed up. It just
sounded like at times the music wasbarely audible and all you heard was the
audience clapping and beat. I don'tknow if that was a mistake or if

(22:34):
that was on purpose, but eitherway, it's not very good. I
don't know what the deal was.You can find the remade twenty nineteen Card
Sharks theme on YouTube just as music, and it's excellent. It's very good.
I really like it. I've alwaysliked the Card Sharks theme, but

(22:57):
it sounded bad, and I don'tknow why it sounded really bad. So
this is made for prime time.So we have an hour show. We're
gonna play two games, two contestantsin the first half hour, two contestants
in the second half hour. Eachcontestant has fifty two cards, and in

(23:21):
season one they got to show theydidn't shuffle, they cut their own cards.
Okay, these oversized cards. Andby the way, can I make
a remark on the cards? Thecards in this version looked very flimsy.
It looked like you could fold themin half. So I don't know if
they're made on actual paper that youwould make playing cards. The original show

(23:45):
definitely was they were solid, theywere firmed when Jim Perry turned them over.
There was no bend whatsoever on here. It looks like you could fold
the card in half easily. It'sa bad look. It looks cheap,
especially when you consider how elaborate theywent with the set. This looks cheap.

(24:07):
So contestants are in season one,and there are differences between season one
and season two. Okay, inseason one there were ten cards that you
had to turn over. If youremember the original game, there was only
five, but you played best twoout of three, so this seems a

(24:27):
little elaborate. But at the sametime, you're still turning over the same
number of cards. Potentially in thisgame, you're given a survey question.
One one players given a survey question. I think there were five, maybe

(24:48):
six. I think there were sixsurvey questions in season one, and it's
usually a yes. A survey, not like family feud, a survey where
you have two choices, like wesurveyed one hundred adults. I'm just making
this up on the spot. Howmany adults said they would consider sitting on

(25:11):
Santa's lap if asked too, youknow that kind of thing. How many
said that the blue contestant would thenguess, oh, I don't know,
thirty four. Then the red contestantwould be tasked was saying higher or lower
than thirty four the actual number, and whoever is correct or if the person
getting high or lower is correct, they get to play the cards. If

(25:32):
they are incorrect, the other playergets to play the cards. Now in
this game, I really enjoyed.Something I really enjoyed about this is that
they didn't just stick with the twoanswers. They asked percentage questions, Like,
you could take that same question, what percentage said they would sit on
Santa's lap. It's kind of thesame thing but reversed. You could still

(25:55):
say thirty four and you still getthe same outcome. But I like how
they asked some of the questions whatpercentage said this. It's a simple thing,
but it rephrases it in a waythat actually makes it sound pretty good.
It sounds pretty good. So goingforward, playing the cards is the

(26:21):
same as before. You get youturn over a card, you can ask
to change it if you like, then you have to go higher or lower.
And just like blackjack, there's avery basic strategy here. Any number
that's higher than eight aces being high, deuce is being low. Anything higher
than an eight, you should sayif the next card that the next card

(26:41):
is going to be lower. Ifit's lower than an eight, you say
higher. If it is an eight, you're right in the middle. So
figure out how you want to goabout that. You can take what cards
have been used because you are usinga standard fifty two card deck. It's
very basic. Anyone who says alower than a seven is probably not You

(27:02):
could be right, but you're goingagainst the odds, and in a game
of cards, going against odds isnot a smart play. So that's how
Card Sharks work. It's it's notthat much to it. There never has
been, and that's not the appealof this game to me. The appeal
of this game is how the pacingof the game goes. And this is

(27:23):
where Card Sharks twenty nineteen fails miserably. It is excruciatingly slow, and it's
not made for prime time. Youhave ten cards in season one, and
they rectified that in season two.By making a seven cards. But honestly,
that didn't help the pace because realistically, you can get on a nice

(27:45):
run of King Deuced Queen three Acetwo and win in a heartbeat, and
then what do you do for time? It doesn't work in prime time.
This game doesn't work in prime Themain game is fundamentally broken when it comes
to primetime games. In Jim Perry'sdays, you had games that straddled all

(28:08):
the time, all the time. And if you don't know what straddling is,
it's where the show, the timeof the show has come to an
end and they just pick up thenext game right where they left off.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?Did this all the time? They would
straddle to the next game. Itworked in that format. It was quick.

(28:30):
You played a game, you wentto the money cards, you got
a new game going, and youjust repeat it until the end of time
or until they got canceled. Butman, it takes so long to talk
about each of these questions, toget an answer, to get a response,
just to flip the card. Andby the way, I don't know
why it bugs me. I don'tknow why it bugs me at all.

(28:53):
But part of the appeal of CardSharks initially was that the host would flip
over the cards because they could createthat drama, that could take that time
and use it at their own pace. Here you have two models flipping cards
over. Is it a big deal? It shouldn't be. It's not,
honestly, But I don't know whyit comes off as wrong here. It

(29:15):
just does to me, And that'sfine. That's a game show purist in
me. That's not a big deal. The big deal here is that the
notoriously slow pacing just kills this show. It makes it almost unwatchable just for
that. The good news is thebest part of the show is the money

(29:36):
cards. Seven cards. You havea wager and you bet how much money
you believe the next card is goingto be higher or lower, and you
continue that until the end. Nowthings change here a little bit. You
win ten thousand dollars if you winthe main game, that's cool. You
get ten thousand dollars. The losingplayer leaves with nothing. That's fine,

(30:02):
that's standard. But here's the mainissue. It's not like that ten thousand
dollars is yours to keep guaranteed. You're actually using that money as you're betting
money in the money cards, sotheoretically you can win the game and still
leave with nothing. That's not agood look. I don't like that at

(30:25):
all. To make things even worse, Season one utilize the original rules where
a push is a loss. Yikes, and guess what happened in the first
couple episodes. That's right, threeconsecutive aces came up. How can you
control that? That's not fair. You can't control the cards. I get

(30:48):
it, it's a game of chance, but it is an awful look to
penalize a player for a push. The original show rectified that. Season two
rectified that, but it was toolate. It was a bad look.
A push should not be a loss. But you knew that going in,

(31:11):
and to be fair, those werethe rules, so you knew that going
in, all right, So inthe money cards you could win some big
money here. If you maxed outyour bet of ten thousand dollars every time,
you could win up to six hundredforty thousand dollars. Wow, that's

(31:33):
cool. That's pretty cool. Wehad there were well, I don't remember
what the highest win was. Ithink the highest win was in the four
hundred thousand dollars range. It waspretty good because the player got some really
good cards six or forty. That'soutstanding. Another thing I didn't like about

(31:56):
the money cards is the props weregiven these giant poker chips. I think
they were made of wood. Theywere giant poker chips, and you use
them to simulate placing a bet ata casino. I get what they were
trying to go for, And again, this is probably not a big deal,
but I'm not a fan of this. I think the easiest way to
do it is to have a displayand you say, hey, I want

(32:22):
to bet nine thousand dollars at thenext card's lower. It's as simple as
that. Why have the players countout chips and prolong the game? It's
more unnecessary filler for a show that'salready full of unnecessary filler. I'll be
honest with you. I only watcheda handful of these episodes. I watched

(32:42):
a couple in season two because itdid get better, but it wasn't enough.
This show is a major turn offfor me. This is not for
Joel McHale. This does not fithim. Yeah, there's some game shows
he could do that would fit him. This was not the rule. Nothing
was great about this show. Nothingwas great about this show. I don't

(33:08):
know what to tell you here. This show being canceled was not a surprise.
It was not highly rated, Itwasn't very good, and quite honestly,
I can't give it a lot ofhigh praise. The show did change
in the second season, also becauseof the coronavirus, because of COVID nineteen.

(33:30):
It did change. It had toput it be pushed back, and
it had to be done without anaudience. It was mixed in with Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire and SupermarketSweep and guess what, neither of those
are around anymore either. It wasa rough night in the second season when
it came to those shows. Sothe final question, was it good?

(33:52):
It was ounding No, it was. I like, I appreciate that ABC
tried to bring this back. Iwas clamoring for this show for a long
time. This version was not good. I will say this, this is
not the worst version of Card Sharks. I will have you look up the
two thousand and one Card Sharks, who hosted by Pat Bullard, and you

(34:16):
might appreciate this version of Card Sharksif you watch the two thousand and one
version, because that might have beenone of the worst game shows I've ever
seen. Game show garbage at itsfinest. Go look up two thousand and
one Card Sharks. You will bein for an entertaining twenty minutes or so
wondering why this was a thing. But again, I appreciate that they tried

(34:40):
to go nostalogy here. I appreciatethat they tried to make it a current
thing. It never worked. Therewere a lot of things on this show
that did not work. So Icomme int ABC again, but this was
a resounding no when it comes toCard Sharks twenty nineteen. Was it good?

(35:00):
All right? Our final segment isnext. We are gonna be talking
our pricing game review. It's beena bit and I want to get on
that. Which game will it be? You'll have to stick around to find
out. Stick with us, folks, It's the Big Bucks Podcast. Final

(35:51):
segment of the Big Bucks Podcasts.Welcome back to the show. JK with
you here as we jump into youare prices right. Pricing game Reviews are
twenty second installment. Today we talkabout a classic, The Grand Game.
All right. So The Grand Gamepremiered on May sixteenth, nineteen eighty.

(36:15):
In this game, contestants can verysimply win ten thousand dollars by picking products
that are under a target price. There are six items displayed on the game.
Four of them are under the listedtarget price, two are over it.
Pick all four without missing one,and you win ten thousand dollars,

(36:36):
but you start with only one dollars. After the first correct guests, you
get ten dollars. After the second, you get one hundred dollars, after
a third one thousand dollars. Atthis point you are asked if you would
like to stop with that one thousanddollars or go on risking it for the
ten thousand dollars, because if youmiss, you lose the thousand dollars and

(37:00):
obviously forfeit your chance at winning tenthousand dollars. Now, a quick interesting
point on this game. Technically,if you miss after the one hundred dollars,
you get the one hundred dollars orthe ten dollars, depending on where
you're at. So that'll lead tomy strategy when we get there later on.

(37:22):
So it's a pretty simple game,and I like the set, I
like the display. The problem withthe set early on was that the giant
price tag that's used to cover. It wasn't as big as the game prop
itself, so there were times whenthey would have to a Initially, you

(37:45):
could see the very top of theboard because it's lit up in green,
and later on they decided they wouldlift the giant price tag up just a
bit to cover up that top,but you could see the bottom of the
game board, which isn't lit up. But you always knew they were playing
that game. So once the newcurtain was unveiled, it was a little

(38:06):
bigger and prevented that from being seen. Originally it was a dark green and
yellow. It was light green ondark green. They changed it to the
current dark green on yellow in nineteeneighty two, a little more esthetically pleasing.

(38:27):
There are a couple quirks to thisgame how it was revealed. So
according to prices right fandom dot comfrom nineteen eighty four to nineteen ninety and
and I vaguely remember this, therewas a graphic that came on screen in
red and it read it didn't sayor give you the numerical value of ten
thousand dollars, actually said in wordsten thousand dollars in red lettering, eventually

(38:52):
becoming just ten thou in nineteen eightysix, so that's unique. Another really
interesting quirk is that the music forIf the music for the Grand Game sounds
familiar when they reveal it, it'sbecause it's the family Feud theme. It's
actually the last few seconds to thetheme of family feud, which is which

(39:17):
is bizarre, but it is.The Prices Right has made no qualms about
using other music. For instance, another queue that used to be used and
actually was used pretty recently on aplaying of Golden Road the match game Hollywood
Squares Hour that theme which I lovethat theme song, by the way,

(39:37):
that's been used in ques before,so it's not unprecedented. Another quirk here,
if you remember the nineteen ninety fourDug Davidson version of the Prices right,
the new prices right, it shouldsay the small prizes. It wasn't
products. It was small prizes thatwere using target prices would range from fifty
one hundred dollars. Interestingly enough,so yeah, it's gone, it's undergone

(40:05):
some computerization. It used to bejust a display of the ten thousand dollars,
and it's gone undergone. The technologicaladvancements not a big deal. They've
kept the show pretty much the sameor this game pretty much the same throughout
its playing. So nothing they've modernizedit. That's really about it. It's
the same great game. One ofthe things I love about Grand game is

(40:29):
a win. You get the tenthousand dollars, you get the graphic on
screen, but you get the clangsand the whoops. I love that sound
effect. I love it. Thisis one of those games where they give
that to you and it is.It is fantastic. It's one of my
favorite sound effects in all of gameshows. Absolutely love it. So the

(40:50):
reveal in this game has always beenfun. Bob Barker did a great job
with the reveal. You get threecorrect, and then he would he would
do his fake out. You know, he said, let's reveal, right,
but then before he reveals that,he'll say something else. You know,
this is for ten thousand dollars, right, and then he'll go and
do it again. What would youdo with that money? Right as he's
about to reveal. It creates aspense. This is a great game for
it so little trivia here from courtesyof prices right dot fandom dot com.

(41:15):
So to make the game work, staff can do set this up in two
ways they can show the target priceand find four grocery items less than the
target price, or just pick sixgrocery items and you know, find the
top two and put the target pricejust below that. Very simple, very
simple. The game has been playedfor different amounts of money, fifty one

(41:38):
thousand dollars, forty thousand dollars, one hundred thousand dollars, and it works
the same way. You just cutoff zeros and you start with you know,
four dollars or fifty one dollars orwhatever, whatever the case. Maybe
it's it's a simple concept. It'sa simple concept. So again let's talk
about strategy. The strategy for thisgame. Obviously, on your first selection,

(42:02):
pick an obvious price. On yoursecond selection, pick an obvious price.
Then you're up to one hundred dollars. Usually there's three obvious ones usually
and the other three are probably oneof the correct answers is probably close to
the target price than the obviously theother two are over the target price.
From a making the most amount ofmoney standpoint, the best strategy here for

(42:28):
your third selection is to pick theone that you think is going to be
questionable. Whatever you might pick forthe fourth one, that might be might
be questionable. Leave an obvious onefor that third one, but pick one
that is probably questionable. And here'swhy. If you get to one hundred

(42:50):
dollars mark and you miss, youare guaranteed that to win that one hundred
dollars. If you get to thethousand dollars and miss, you lose that
thousand per the rules, because there'sthat bailout option. So use the third
pick as your questionable pick. Andif you're gonna in either way, if
you're gonna win ten thousand dollars, you're gonna win it with this strategy one

(43:12):
way or another, So go withthat. That's what you should be doing.
That's what you should be doing. And by the way, you should
from a pot odds standpoint, youshould never bailout at the thousand. There's
been a few contestants who have, very few in fact, but there have
been. But statistically speaking, youshould not bail out at a thousand.

(43:37):
If you're just playing odds, there'sa one in three chance to win ten
thousand dollars, which again that's astronomicallyworse or better than the bailing out at
a thousand to win ten times thatamount. So you should absolutely go for
it, just my line of thinking, but statistically speaking as you should.

(44:00):
So there you go. Check outthe different playings on YouTube. You can
find some really good games. Andby the way, this has one of
the more outstanding wins in the historyof The Price is Right. It took
eight playings before we got a tenthousand dollars winner in this game, but
the eighth playing is one of themost memorable moments in the show's history.

(44:21):
Contestant paul Leane Samoan woman, large, Samoan woman who by the way,
Bob Barker, he's always said,Samoan's love me, and they do because
you like to pick him up andtry and hug him. Well, she
chased him around the stage on onthis win and it's a very memorable moment.
You should look it up. Itwas he keeps running away from her,

(44:44):
but she wants she wants to pickhim up and hug him because she
just won the first ten thousand dollarsin Grand Game, which which is pretty
cool. It's pretty cool. Sothere you go. That is the Grand
Game and I love it. Ithink it's fun, I think it's it's

(45:05):
not a big amount of money,it's the smallest cash game, like there
are no games that are played forless money. But it's a simple game.
It's simple, it gets to thepoint, it is fun, and
it's an absolutely classic game where youcan win a lot of money in a
short amount of time. And Ilove pricing grocery item. So is it

(45:27):
better? Let's Master Keys at thetop of my list. Is it better
than master Key? No? Isit better than check Out? I think
it's better than Checkout. I'm gonnaplace Grand Game at number two, So
Checkout moves down a spot, it'snumber three and Grand Game moves up.
And again, these are all opinionbased, so someone might hate Grand Games,

(45:51):
someone might really like double prices.I don't know, that's up to
you. Master Key. Grand Gamemoves into the second spot. Checkout Bonker's
Spelling Bee round out the top five, and as always I will place these
on social media every five games tokeep you updated. So check us out
