Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sho, what up? What up? What up? Welcome back to
another episode of Big Island Sports talk show. All right,
brother no, and always with me is brother Matthew Parker.
What's up my matt?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hey man? How you doing today? I'm backing.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
I'm good, man, I'm good. How's it going?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Man? Look I can't complain. It's another beautiful Sunday. Kind
to get back to talking to some sports. And I
saw on the zoom you had this beautiful golden belt.
What is this?

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Talk to me? Oh man, I totally forgot to tell you.
Last week I won two Automate Tree leagues and this
this is this belt that I have right here. It's
it's a it's a special one because there's a lot
of good friends that we we created this league for
uh and it's been going on from two thousand.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
And eighteen okay, twenty eighteen, okay, one strong and this
is for fantasy football.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Fantasy football.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Wow, So you guys got hardware. You actually got a belt. Man,
I thought you won a big title fight.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I thought you Yeah, I saw that. We created like
maybe about three years ago, maybe four years ago, we
created the belt, you know, just something to have something
to brag about. You know, there's a bunch of my friends,
but good friends that I'll always talk about football and winning.
Winning the money is okay, But getting this belt it's

(01:33):
another story. You know. I'll take this belt over the
money anything, just for bragging rights, you know, because a
couple of my my brother in law one and three
times and you always rub it in in it every
time I see him always rubbing it in. But it's
all good. I love it. I love the I love
the the competitive and competition of this this league and
it's and it's fun.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah, thanks for taking the time. Love to see it.
You got the chirp league shirt on too. I just
saw that. That's fresh man. What's this? What's the thing
on the back and you say just your name? Oh
you got the number nine. Ah. The mail man.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Always deliver well, being we're from aciation, do a lot
of mails and delivering. So that's where I came out.
My name before that was Yo Gabbas. That was my
son's favorite TV show. And then the funny story Summer.
I'm not good in computers and stuff, so Summer made

(02:38):
my my whole bio. On Onto the Onto the Fantasy,
the Sign, the sign. It so she just put in it.
She put all kinds of stuff. She put my son's
favorite show and Allso I've been known for about maybe
six years as Joe Gabbas. Yeah, yeah, I like that.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I like that a lot.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, I appreciate the insight behind it. Man. That's that's
that's pretty good stuff. Hey, you're doing it with your
family and your homies right there. You mentioned the bragging rights, Like,
I totally understand that. Now, what I will disagree with
you is, no, it's all about the money.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Show me the money, don't the money.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah no, but I understand that completely. And the belt
actually looks pretty cool. So, you know, just explaining it
to the people listening, it's just on it. What does
it say that the chirp.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Chirp because we always talk a lot of trash on there. Well,
it actually began and a text message with me and
my friend, Me and my two friends Ravel Goople and
Cameron Silva. We we was always talking about football. Then
we always talk about talk crap about each other's team,
and it blew up. We put in we're adding family members, friends,

(03:54):
whoever is down for for for for talks of chirp chirp.
I like that, so you're very welcome, man. It's been fun.
It took off after that that we made a fantasy
league and from Dariels, I can't wait for every football
season so we can get back to each other and
talk crap about each other.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
See No, that's good man. That makes it all worthwhile
because at the end of the day, that's all you
can do is really just talk and hope your team
does well. Right, I mean, we don't really have any
control as opposed to draft of the team. So I
totally feel you on that. And it's really encouraging to
see too. I like those kind of stories behind it.
People that are listening. They've got fantasy groups as well.

(04:37):
We got a little trophy and for the last place
in our league, in the Wooster League, you get a
big old hat. It's a huge hat, bro all those
I see, yeah, and it looks ridiculous. So I'm very
very cool. Let me knock on some wood that I've
never had to wear it or Valerie, she's the champion
our league this year, so she got the money and
she should be. She should be getting the trophy sometimes

(05:00):
soon in the mail, I got to check with our commissioner.
But no, that's awesome. I love to see that, so
I appreciate it. And you mentioned football where I mean,
it's always on the calendar, especially when you got the
NFL Combine and just finished up this past week. But
you got an interesting take on the combine. You know,
tell me what are your thoughts on it?

Speaker 1 (05:18):
The combin think is overrated. They go by speed and
how strong you and how good you can do the
forty and there's it's different from football. You know, there's speed,
and there's football speed. You can run without your pads,
but put on another ten pounds and let's see how
fast you really are in game shape and in real

(05:42):
life games.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Interesting point. Interesting Now, now you're talking to somebody who
does genuinely enjoy the combine on just a football nut
in that sense. What do they call it the underwear Olympics? Right, yeah, right,
I'm not I'm not I'm not down with calling it that.
I do see your point in saying that there are
some components that just don't translate to what we see

(06:05):
on Sundays. And you're right, there is there is you know,
game speed, and there is combine speed. And we have
seen that some people who perform well at the combine
doesn't necessarily transfer over right. Just here's a perfect example,
John Ross who John Ross ran what a four two
forty h fourteen like that? Yeah, and you know he

(06:28):
didn't really pan out in the NFL. I believe he
is still in the NFL. Last time I checked, he
was with Cincinnati Bengals. But like he's I would I'd
rather have a Deshaun Jackson as a deep threat. I'd
rather have a Davante Smith similarly built, but whose skills
actually do translate to the NFL. So I mean, But
but for me, though I do enjoy it from its

(06:49):
like football ends, I get a little bit sad it
just and then I come around the corner and then
at the end of February early March, I've got the combine.
If you watch college football, you're excited to see how
prospects go. You do typically see prospects who are guaranteed

(07:10):
in the first round, the Shadora Sanders, the camboards, the
sports the gent's who who choose not to participate in
the combine.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
That why they did in the combine would wouldn't make
it worse for their drafts draft stock because they're not
familiar with those those receivers that they're going to be
trying to. Maybe they might drop their skin, they might
drop in rounds or are in the draft.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
That's a good that's a good way to look at it.
So that's that's a good thing. Some of them definitely
choose not to and it could be the familiarity thing.
It could be they are reserving their talented skills for
the Pro Day, to which they will have their own
wide receivers running back to throw to in an environment

(08:02):
which is a little bit more contract comfortable. Yeah, and
so I do believe that you can have players who
benefit from participating in the Combine. It is an honor
to be invited. Not everyone does get that invite. It's
about three hundred and twenty three hundred and twenty five
players from all the colleges that get this invitation. But

(08:22):
there's a list of players in the NFL who had
illustrious careers who did not attend the Combine. So I'm
looking at one Doug Baldwin, very dependable wide receiver for
the Seahawks, didn't go to the Combine. Malcolm Butler, who
you could say he was a one trick pony, with
that interception against the Seahawks in the in the Super Bowl,
gave Tom Brady another ring. He didn't attend the combine.

(08:45):
Antonio Gates, who played basketball in college, right, didn't attend
the combine taken into maar Broncos. Chris Harris, who was
a defensive back, wasn't there. Here's a big one, Tyreek Hill. Yes, right, so,
and you know Tyri Hill had trouble past, troubled history
coming out that made his stock, you know, a little
shaky in the draft. Obviously. You know he's landed on

(09:05):
his feet, had a great Hall of Fame career, some
something Hall of Fame career. But I enjoy it for
the sense of man, I love football. I love to
see the quarterbacks going. I will always watch the defensive
backs and wide receivers run their forties. Yeah, those two positions.
I understand what you're saying about it. Having the extra
weight of the pads on, you still need to be

(09:26):
able to change direction. You still need to be able
to tap, break down and tackle. But you do need
to see do you have some straight line speed? Defensive
backs need to be able to keep up with these
wide receivers. Yes, And you know So I don't think
forty time is the end all be all, but I
definitely think that it does. It does kind of you know,
put these guys on tape, so yeah, definitely yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
So but like like some at least they'll they'll just
train like like tracking fuka and stuff. You know, how
to get off on the forty, how to vertical leaves
and your broad jumps and all that. They trained specifically.
That's where that and and that's kind of crazy because
your stock will go up if you do good in
this in the verticals and your forties and all that.

(10:13):
Like there's like you said, perfect example, John Ross, they
they they're dropped him for his speed, and I'm pretty
sure that he his value of his draft went up
because of that. He break the record, the combine record
in the forty and he didn't did never do much
in the NFL, but he did. He did get that
higher pick money though.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
You know that he did surprise the Raiders and take
him because you know raiders level wide receiver with some speed,
they'll drop. They'll drop anything just somebody but anybody own. Yeah,
we'll see. But staying on that point, to the NFL combined,
you know, to your point being overrated. He was just
a couple of names of NFL players who didn't perform

(10:58):
well but had great and a careers. Starting at the top.
In Kwan Bolden out of Florida State, he's forty times
four point seven. I'm pretty sure I could get out
in a run of four to seven right now, you know.
And I might pull a couple of hand strings too
trying to get but I'm sure, pretty sure. He was
dead dead last out of all the wide receivers in

(11:19):
his draft class, but that didn't stop him from amassing
eight hundred and fifty seven receptions in his career and
over eleven thousand yards. I mean there are there's a
list of wide receivers so I think deserved the Hall
of Fame before him, but he is certainly in that tier.
Here's another one. Navarro Bowman dropped to ninety first overall
in his draft, didn't do well in the combine. But

(11:41):
when you think of Navar Bowman, you think of Patrick
Willis will and that linebacker corps for San Francisco forty
nine ers one of the best duals. Yeah, holding teams
to under four yards to carry just for numerous years.
A couple of Hall of Famers Drew Brees and Terrell Suggs.
No Drew Brees of both of those players are not
quite in the Hall of Fame. But who I do

(12:02):
believe will get there. I think Terrell Suggs, he was
on the ballot this year, but I believe that he'll
probably get in the same time Luke Keigley gets in,
which maybe wasn't this year for public next year, Threll
Suggs set the NCAA record for sacks when he was
drafted in twenty two with twenty four sacks. And then
let's not forget the big one, most people's goat, not mine,

(12:23):
but Tom Brady the goat.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
He beat the goat twice. That's Tom Brady's daddy be
talking about, right.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
There, miss, I mean you're talking about in the sixth round,
sixth down, seventh round, sixth round. I think people, you know,
Dead Last was crying in his daddy's arms because it
wasn't sure what he was gonna do. And now he's
got seven Super Bowl rings. Is an okay commentary, I'll
say he's an okay commentator. And yeah, owns part of

(12:49):
the Las Vegas Raiders, So so to your point, yeah,
I can understand why you think the combine is overrated.
For me, it's just more entertainment. So it's something that
I'll I'm not gonna sit there watch And I really
do like Rich Eisen. I like that he does his
run Rich.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah, yeah, in the suit.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
I love that the fact that he is an awareness.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Dad, where it's just a display of where you can
get uh your forties and your your your verticals and
you brought Johnson and you're weightlifting and it's cool, but
there's it's different, you know. Yeah, there there's their game
speed and there's combine speed.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
No, and you're right and you're absolutely right. And then
we think like, okay, you're vertical. It's great, But the
only time you really need a vertical is if you're
what on the defensive line, you're knocking down passes or
trying to block a field goal like so, and look,
the NFL, it's got some of the best athletes in
the world. So you're talking about everybody's fast, everybody's strong,

(13:53):
everybody can jump high, and so yeah, you can get
those measurables and it's good to say ooh and about,
but yeah, I definitely can see the point you're saying
about the combine being overrated, and you're allowed to have
your opinion. That's the best part about sports is we're
always talking about these things. And I really when you
texted me off the air, I was like, Oh, that's
that's that's a hot take. I definitely want to hear it.

(14:14):
So thank you for giving me your your insight on that.
But let's uh, let's transition here to the NBA. Now,
we had a recent news of NBA big man who
is out for the season. Last week when we made
when we created the episode, we learned that Victor win
Bayama is going to be out. That's the center for
the Spurs for the rest of the season. And now,

(14:37):
to some surprise, but really to no surprise if you've
been paying attention, Joel Embiid is out for the seventy
six ers for the rest of the season with issues
pertaining to his left meet. What are your thoughts on this?
I mean, what a shame is it?

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Because they ain't gonna make the playoffs? That are gonna
call it?

Speaker 2 (14:54):
I don't think so. I think it really. I mean,
the Sixers in general have been disa warning this year.
If you're a basketball fan and you you know, you
really want to pull for them. It's kind of tough.
They currently sit eleventh in the East, uh, and that's
just tough. The only teams that are above are the
Nets and the Raptors as I'm looking at, and it's

(15:16):
just like, you know, there's a team below them as well.
But it's just I wouldn't say it's for the fact
that they're not doing well this season. I just think
he had the meniscus surgery and February of last year,
and as a big man and the way he plays
his game, he just can't stay healthy, you know. And

(15:38):
it's just a shame because when healthy, he's very talented
big man with his mid range and yeah, shooting a three.
I do believe him choosing the United States over France
was a difference in US winning that gold. Yeah, and
at least having a chance of not having to contend

(15:59):
with his gills, because when healthy he's an animal. I mean,
as an NBA fan, I like to see him and
Jokic going at it. I like to see him. Yeah,
we want to see the big guys going at it.
And it's just a shame that we lose two NBA
big men in the second half of the season for
the season. So what what are your thoughts on Joel
and b.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Like you said, one of the best, one of the
best sellers out there, and unfortunately he got a knee injury.
I would like to see him and maybe get into
the playoffs and maybe do it run. But then the
the East is they're strong, it's going to be as
gonna be a good fight. Like with Cleveland. Oh, Cleveland
is good right now, but.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Cleveland is a beast right now. Are currently forty nine
and ten?

Speaker 1 (16:44):
I think that's the best, right Are they the best
record in the NBA?

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Yeah? Next to on the Thunder, next to the Thunder
the Thunder, Yeah, forty eight and eleven right now?

Speaker 1 (16:53):
But those two teams. Man, I'm sorry, I'm getting off
the off track. No, no, no, no, but man, do
you think it's time for NB do a trade, get
ont of there?

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Just who's going to take him? And they recently signed
into a contract. I mean, he is due a lot
of money and again can't stay healthy. His style of play.
It's it's a shame because I mean, if you're a
Sixers fan and you were told to trust the process,
I mean when does that trust run out? By golly,
he's a weasel. Yeah, yeah, a while the process is

(17:30):
slow going. When they say snail mail, that's that's what
they mean. It literally is some snails carrying the mail,
and the snails is all burnt up. Okay, because it's
it's not a good look. I mean, obviously we want
people to be healthy, especially people with his skill set.
But if I'm the Sixers, you're looking you got to

(17:50):
be looking inward and saying where do we go wrong?
Because you look on the other side of the coin.
Paul George also injury prone and just not playing up
to what we saw with the Clippers and uh and
fans are letting them hear it. So and to the
point you made earlier about the East, you got the
Caves forty nine and ten, the Celtics behind them at

(18:12):
forty three and eighteen, seven games behind, and then surprisingly
the New York Knicks in the third seed right now
currently at thirty nine and twenty. That addition to big
Man Karl Anthony Towns was huge for them. Yeah, and
then you got the Bucks in the in the fourth seed.
So I'm happy for Dane, I'm happy for your honest

(18:32):
and I'm really happy for their head coach who gets
a lot of flag and that is, uh who I'm thinking,
Doc Rivers. Yeah, Doc Rivers, So good for them. And
then surprisingly Terry's Halliburton and the Pacers in the in
the five seed. So and then the Pistons behind him
in the sixth seed. Yeah, thirty four and twenty seven,

(18:57):
and they have a lot of room to pick up
a free agent in the offseason. They have a lot
of cap space. So nine to one in their last
ten games, they're surging. They're actually tied with the Cavaliers
for the best performance in the last ten games and
then going back to the seventy six ers one in
nine in the last ten games, so they are trending

(19:19):
in the wrong direction. Yeah, all I can say, and that's,
you know, just being kind, but just going to the
West here. I just saw some good news that because
the Nuggets lost today, the Nuggets currently hold the second seed.
Your LA Lakers have a chance to jump them and
take the second seed with a win tonight. So I mean,

(19:41):
what are your thoughts on that. You got to be
feeling pretty good that would improve the Lakers to thirty
eight and twenty one.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Oh man, I just love the way they're playing defense
at all. It's more they're they're they're they're playing tough defense.
They're really going after it. Against the Clippers on all
of the good game, they showed their defensive side, but
just the audition with Luca, it's just different. It's a
different vibe. So you can see it. We're using the

(20:07):
spreading the ball around more. We're not relying on just
just Lebron and a D. I'm very very happy that
trade went through. We can make a run for the
playoffs and maybe go deep in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
I mean, yeah, I think that's the expectation, especially with
Lebron acquiescing and you know, letting Luca run the majority
of the point. We know that's the way that he
has done it his entire career. But it is nice
to seek and yeah, yeah, it's nice to see that
the Lakers defensive presence is there. In fact, over the

(20:41):
last ten games they have the best defensive rating in
the n b A. And so that's you know, credit
to the coaching, the coaching staff, and credit to the
players who are digging in. Rory Hotchimore is everywhere. Jared
Vanderbilt when he comes off the bench, He's just a
nightmare and I really like I think his jump shot
so sweet. He's got that Derek Fisher that left the

(21:02):
release right there. Looks really good, looks nice. Yeah, and
guys like Austin Reeves and Dalton connect are benefited greatly from.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
We got shooters. No, we got shooters surrounded Brown Mike,
I mean, Dantich and Lebron. Yeah, if you decide to
double team, one of these guys is going to be open.
And I'm prettyure you're pretty sure they're gonna look it down.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Yeah, and it's uh, I mean, you got to be
feeling really good just looking at the West here. Obviously
the nugget the Nuggets aren't going to continue to be
a problem. Yes, Thunder, who sit in the one seed
at forty eight and eleven, are above them, But you
got teams below them, the Memphis Grizzlies. Yeah, those sleep
on Memphis, man, They're right there with a similar record

(21:45):
to what you guys have got. Kind of stumbling in
the last ten games or so, losing against some opponents
I feel like they should have won. They definitely tend
to beat up on. My sons won a close game
against them recently and then the Rockets, the young Rockets
team in the fifth seed, and then the Clippers who
you mentioned before who they just beat so and then

(22:06):
surprisingly to me, in the seventh seed, the Warriors. That
that addition you mentioned with Jimmy Butler. My goodness, what
a nice.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
Yeah, yeah, just being Curry.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
You know, fifty six the other night. Yeah, fifty six
points the other night, shot twelve or twelve on the
free throw line, and uh, he actually dunked. I saw
the stat for the first time since the twenty eighteen
twenty nineteen season. So that's when you guys were just
forming your your group text and getting that belt together.
But it's the last time Steph Curry actually dunked in

(22:38):
a game. So to someone who can't dunk, I can
grab rim, Well, I can touch rim? How about that
I can't. I can you can flicked the net with
some stilts on.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
I bet.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
I understand you. And that has actually been too long
since I've been on a basketball court. But yeah, it's
it is really nice. One team that I don't think
is going to make the playoffs is my Phoenix Sons,
currently sitting in the eleventh seed at twenty eight and
thirty two. And three and seven in our.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Let's go to get into the just got to get
into the players then you never know.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
I'm looking at the teams that we mentioned above, teams
that we struggle with, like the Mavericks all we seem
to have our number in the ten seed, and then
the Timberwolves, who just young energy and Edwards is just
a beast, and even like a Sacramento Kings team, which
the Martin Boro is one of my favorite players in
the game, mid range assassin in the eighth seed. I'm

(23:38):
just looking at the teams above us and thinking like,
oh Lord, goodbye, good bye. Even if we were able
to get in, it would be a quick exit. And
that's that's saying a lot. With Devin Booker and Kevin
Durant d to future Hall of famers. You know, Kevin
Durant recently eclipped thirty thousand points, the eighth player to

(24:01):
do that in NBA history. Devin Booker now become the
all time son scoring leader, and I got to see that.
So it's like, you know, I like the sports history
aspect of it. But they had the most expensive roster
in the entire league, and I'm looking at the eleven
seed twenty eight and thirty two, twenty and a half
games behind first place. I just don't think that Matt

(24:23):
Ishbia is getting his return on investment, not this season.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
And it goes is eleven seed for playing.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
You got me there. I thought it was ten.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Was it ten?

Speaker 2 (24:39):
I think it's ten ten right, But even then, I
mean we are I said, three games, two and a
half games behind the Mavericks, who don't have anyone in
their front court right. All three of their big men
are out, including Anthony Davis you mentioned, and they're still
heartbroken because of the Luka Doncics you know trade. But
still they played your Lakers really well the other day.

(25:01):
I watched the game all the way through, and yeah,
he is different, him and Klay Thompson with eleven points
in the third quarter. Very very surprised that the Lakers
you know, let them hang around, especially in that team.
And of course, the big storyline behind that game was
Luca's first time playing his former tea yea, and yeah

(25:22):
he was. He was scowling and screaming and looking at
the general manager Nico Collins every time a bucket will
go down in his favor. So the stories behind the
stories is why I do. Really just appreciate sports so much,
and it's nice to have somebody you know, who is
involved and following along as well. So we're going to

(25:43):
take a quick commercial break. When we come back, let's
let's talk about the NFL. We've got some trade, some
potential trades going down, and then we'll get into the
w B a lightweight title fight that was involving Lamont
Roach and Saint Davis last night. This is Matt Parker
brother no Big on Sports talk show. Will be right back.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Hey, folks, it's Matt Parker. Do you wish you had
a firm grip on setting boundaries but can't stand up
for yourself?

Speaker 1 (26:16):
Nobody want to lose? Are you tired of.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Being the world's punching bag because you can't stand confrontation?
Not maybe yes or no? When now introducing Don't Give
a new product clinically proven to ensure that you don't
give a but don't take it from me, here's some

Speaker 2 (27:13):
All right, Welcome back to the Big Island sports talk show. Matt,
I'm brother, Mat brother No here with me, Matt Parker
here and man, we definitely have some NFL talk in
the off season. While the NFL really can't dominate some headlines,
can't they?

Speaker 1 (27:29):
I know, there's just I'm looking day by day. It
is just something new, always something new.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah. And speaking of new, just about an hour and
a half ago, Ian Rappaport his sources claim that the
Jets are now taking calls on star wide receiver Davonte Adams,
so they're open to trading him prior to the start
of the league. And his cap number is huge, really
being the reason why thirty eight point two million dollars.

(27:57):
But if they're saying, if they can't get a deal done,
they are expected to release Adams and they're expecting him
to pair up with whoever picks up Aaron Rodgers. So
what are your thoughts, Davante Adams?

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yeah, yeah, Davante Adams man, I think the Jets are
gonna go like young. They're gonna go young. Can't blame them.
You couldn't do them when he was older with Aaron
Rodgers than with DeVante Adams. I guess with with the
new GM and with a new coach, I wouldn't see

(28:29):
why not go young, you know, get be refreshed, do
this from scratch again. You know, who knows. They might
even trade off for Sanders or cam Ward, finding their
their young quarterback. But if not, they probably might go
into uh free agency, maybe Darring, Sam Donald or or
one of those other quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
A thirty something year old Kirk Cousins available No, I
like your idea. Go young. You got a new head coach, Aaron, you.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Get Justine Fields. If we don't know what Pittsburgh is
gonna do, if we're going to go, go with a
young boy or stay with Wilson. If they don't go
with Fields, there's shoes right there. You can pare them
up with with another good receiver from the Buckeyes with Wilson.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
Garrett Wilson is there. Absolutely, Yeah, I think it would
be great to see a young quarterback in New York,
and they need it. You know. I wouldn't be mad
to see cam Ward or Shador Sanders there. I've been
looking at some mock drafts which don't really mean anything,
but a lot of them have Shador Sanders falling to

(29:36):
six with the Raiders. So I think his style and
demeanor would actually look good with with the Black and Silver.
And I know here in Las Vegas they would really
appreciate it. I would love to give eyes on him
and see how he translates to the NFL, and yeah,
you know that would be great. But I mean, look,

(29:58):
we don't know. It is the Jets, and the Jets
haven't won a Super Bowl since we first went to
the Moon in nineteen sixty nine. So, you know, getting
rid of Aaron Rodgers and all his minions, I think
is a good move for the new regime to start
fresh and you know, really establish new culture for the Jets.

(30:18):
And I mean I don't have any ill will against
the Jets. I think they're sorry enough for a franchise
where I don't have to speak on them. And again
it's coming from a Broncos fan where I don't have
much to talk about. In fact, I can't stand my head. Coach,
you know how I feel about Sean Baby, You know
I feel about him. Get off my team. But another

(30:40):
potential move a wide receiver formally, well, I guess he's
still employed in your team, Cooper Cup and I see
that the Cowboys have their eye on him.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
What do you think I see? Well, what I think
is a good move. You gotta find that number two
receiver for Seed. You know, if you can't find the
number two, you're gonna see a lot of double teams
on CD. And it's it's due or die time for
Dak Prescott. So why not give him weapons, you know,

(31:10):
and maybe grab one of these young running backs in
the draft, Maybe grabbing that that that that kid, that
running back from North Carolina. Oh oh yeah, yeah, he's
His stock is going up. I thought that other kid
from Iowa was gonna be ahead of him, but with
with the combine, I think his stock is going up more.

(31:34):
That's the way I will approach it. You don't have
to to go a quarterback or your defense is pretty solid.
Maybe grabbing another cornerback. Maybe if their kid from uh, Michigan,
I forget his name. If it's there, maybe grab him
or one of his running backs. But it will be
a good good uh, that will be on good uh

(31:54):
one two duel for dark Cooper Cup and CD.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
You're already paying sixty million dollars a year. Why not
put some skill around them. Well, when I bring up
Cooper Cup, omar On Hampton was the running back we
were trying to think of for North Carolina.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Yes, that kid is good.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Oh yeah. Sixteen hundred yards fifteen touchdowns, average five point
nine yards to carry. So if you can't get your
hands on a gent t from Boise State, then then
he's definitely there. So and Dallas did not have balance,
they didn't have a running back they could trust. They
let Derek Henry slip through their fingertips and they paid

(32:31):
greatly for it. So now you're looking at a team
like the Washington Commanders come up and usurped them for
the second best team in that division, the leading team,
of course being the Super Bowl champion at the Eagles. Yes,
and Cowboys who are just prone to mediocrity. This is
this is what we this is what we see.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
That division is going to be end up pretty good.
I must say. If Cowboys can get their stuff together
in the on free agency and then the draft and
then they can fix this positions that they need he
needs in that division might be good. But uh with
Washington and Mitfitti.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
Yeah, but you will have the Giants dragging them down, so.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Everybody would be I forgot about the Giants.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Yeah, exactly, So we don't forget about them. They are
in They are poopy, as he said. But when I
brought up Cooper Cup earlier, you watched him close. He's
on your team. We know you mentioned last week he
was a former Triple Crown winner. I think that was
a twenty twenty one season, so just two three seasons ago.

(33:36):
Does he have much in the tank to be a
wide receiver, second wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
Like when we drafted him, he was kind of long
in the two. Some guys will say he was up
there in age when when you drafted them, and he
just couldn't stay healthy, true, true, true seasons. I think
that the twenty twenty one run, I think that was
the healthiest he was since we got him. And he's

(34:02):
worth a lot of money. We've given him a lot
of money. We're actually paying him a lot. I can
see why we're trying to get, trying to find We're
gonna go probably young, hopefully that that that kid from
Ohio State will fall down the receiver down to twenty
six because we do need another beast past catcher. We

(34:25):
kind of just rely on Pooka all day. If we
can get him, we'll be with that'll be nice him
in the draft.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Yeah, Buka, yeah yeah yeah, and then he blocks.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
He does nice route running. Like Ohio State is wide
receiver you. I must say, it was like after you,
but now it's wide receiver you now.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
Yeah, we'll talk about how the game has changed. They
definitely have, right with Marvin Harrison Junior. Prior to that,
you know, Jeremiah Smith. We's gonna be coming out next year.
I'm sure a.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Lot of it.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Yeah, you know, kJ Hill Smith, Yeah, Santonio Holmes even
you know back before that, Michael Jenkins before him. Yes,
so yeah, I see what you mean. There have been
some big names coming out of Ohio State. Typically when
you stick to just the quarterbacks, they don't typically pan
out and do well uh in the NFL. But maybe

(35:21):
maybe if Justin Fields can find the right team, uh,
you know, he could start to change that that narrative.
So yeah, no, I mean, that's that's interesting. The last,
the last talk on the the NFL, excuse me, free
agency or off season Trades's just reported that the Bills
are interested in defensive player of the Year from last year,

(35:44):
Miles Garrett. Now, the GM for the Bills is adam
and saying they are not moving him. But as these
rumors start to circulate and Miles Garrett has already expressed interest,
he's already sitting his letter farewell letter to the Cleveland
fan base saying thank pretty much about but I want
to win. We typically know how these things go. When
a GM says they're adamant and not trading him, basically

(36:07):
they're just waiting for a good offer. So two teams
that I've I've heard are in the running. The Buffalo Bills,
who obviously were in the a f C Championship Game
this past year. It could use to get a little
bit younger on the defensive line. Yes, Miles Garrett, and
then also Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Howie roseman Is

(36:28):
has been in talks as well. And you talk about
the rich getting richer. Yeah yeah, if they land, if
they land Miles Garrett alongside James Carter, yeah yeah. Not
good for the NFC, not good at all. Good good
for the Eagles talk about.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Yeah, man, if the dude, well, I don't know if
von Miller would be back with them, they'll be a
nice two one two punch with von Miller and.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Von Miller is old. You know, go home to your
chickens or your cows or whatever you do. Von Miller
just just stop. Okay, you went out on top. You
think about he was a Super Bowl MVP in twenty fifteen.
That was ten years ago. I couldn't now not to
say he still can't do a little something. We saw

(37:19):
de Marcus where late in his career actually gotten him
from the Cowboys, and you know he's an assistant coach there,
you know, did wonders. But come on, now, sometimes it's
best just to let be, let be, you know what
I mean.

Speaker 1 (37:31):
No, I think it's time for him just to hang
it up. I can see why. No, it's gonna makes
sense now if they're gonna let go von Miller or
Traider maybe I don't know, and get Garrett and for
for the Buffalo. I can see that.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
Because he ain't cheaplon Miller home home on the rain,
go home. Time to pack it up? For why may
have bro you done? Well? Look, the last the last
offseason trade just went down yesterday, A big name getting
moved out of you know, one of the teams that
I'd like to talk a lot of mess on. The

(38:06):
San Francisco forty nine ers parted ways with Deep Samuels
Deebo Samuels for a fifth round draft pick, now joins
the Washington Commanders. Uh so, what are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 1 (38:17):
Good pick up on Washington's And yeah, not in on
after reliant scarity arry that much they get that one.
Maybe slash they can use like a running back slash
slot slash receiver with with Deebo, I can see them
making creative moves with with him and Daniels in the backfield,

(38:40):
like a read option kind of thing, and it's going
to be I think that was a good move by them.
I think so by by Washington. But I'm guessing they're
they're taking a lot of money from from Deebo. Yeah,
I think he's well, he.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
Wanted a lot of money, right because they just past offseason.
You know, Devo was upset, but who was more upset
was Brandon Ayuk who did get his contractor remember he
did get his contract before he had a season ending injury,
so thank goodness for that that contract. But for the
forty nine ers, remember just was several years ago where

(39:18):
we were saying, is Devo Samuel is one of the
best players in NFL because of his versatility, but you know,
he took a lot of hits, so you know, I
know you mentioned him possibly having package in the backfield,
but I don't think that'll be necessary considering they've got
a great running back tandem with Austin Eckler and who
people thought was washed up and Robinson, right, Rob Robinson.

(39:41):
So yeah, I mean you think with zach Ertz and
Scary Terry, as you mentioned that the Commander's offense is
more than formidable, and I'm I'm anxious to see if
Jaden Daniels, the reigning Rookie of the Year, can't take
that next step because we were all enamored with CJ.
Stroud and his rookie year and he definitely had a

(40:03):
sophomore slump. So I'm manxious to see if that's going
to be the case with J Davis.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Well, I just sayed too, they might be shopping a
yuk too.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
That would be interesting because they're.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
They're they're trying to pay I'm pretty.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Well the thing about party and look I like rock perty.
I love an underdog story coming up. But he definitely
fell off this year too, and his performance drops drastically
when he doesn't have top tier talent to throw to.
So is Ricky Pursaul going to you know and and

(40:42):
come up is if if what you say is true
and they shot brandan ayuk okay, well Jennings you got
Juwan Jennings. Yeah, but you know what it's it's Christian McCaffrey.
Will see what his health is looking like. You know,
he was barely hanging on if you drafted him first. Uh,
in this past Fantasy football league, you probably didn't make
the playoffs unless you were able to, you know, trade

(41:06):
him for somebody, bamboozle somebody into it. But but you know,
my my whole thing is Kyle Shanahan. And although he's
not going to be on the hot seat, I think
that this is this is this is the year that
he needs to prove that that forty nine Ers are.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
A break for Shanahan.

Speaker 2 (41:26):
He's been make or break for the last couple of years.
And yeah, he's had some time, but.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
Keep on firing their defensive coordinator. That's not the problem.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
It's not the problem. Yeah, and again it's the situation
with the forty nine Ers is as dire as it
is with Dallas Cowboys. I mean you're talking about I
mean I was five six years old last time both
of those teams had Super Bowl rings, you know, being
presented to them. And you know, thirty years is a

(41:53):
long time. But you know, a forty a lot of
forty fans out here, they've got nothing but pride, right
and attending the game that I against the Cowboys this
past season, you know they're going to continue to pack
that house in Santa Clara. But there is a point
where you can say we missed our window and it's

(42:13):
getting up there.

Speaker 1 (42:14):
They're not getting any younger.

Speaker 2 (42:16):
Well they're trying, as they're getting rid of all their
older players. But for a fifth round draft pick for
Deebo Samuels, I guess that's a win win for both teams.
You don't have to worry about Deebo's upcoming contract and
he's going to prove it show something he's still got
in the tank for the Washington Commanders. So we will
see how that plays out, because they didn't just you
don't want to just give up a fifth round draft
pick and just to give it away. You know, it

(42:38):
wasn't like it was a second or a third. Yeah,
but Deebo Samuels has proven that he's a stud in
this league and we'll see if he can continue to
do So that's it. Well, look, I just want to transition.
The last topic of the night was the big fight
or little fight, depending on the weight class. This was
the lightweight title fight between the w B A title
fight between Lamont Roach and Torafronte. Take Davis. I didn't

(43:03):
know Tink Davis. Tink Davis is five five five, and
of course they were fighting at one thirty I believe,
or yeah, one hundred and thirty pounds in this title
fight last night.

Speaker 1 (43:15):
That five five guy, he got some, he got some.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
He could punch a hole right through me.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
I already know that, right, and.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
I'm I'm not a fighter, That's why I'm here behind
the mic. But but I will say if I'm watching
the fight start to finish, very entertaining fight, especially compared
to the last debacle I saw between Jake Paul and
Mike Tyson's. There was at a whole lot less butt
cheeks being shown and a whole yeah, a whole lot

(43:43):
of fighting, more fighting. It started out slow first couple
of rounds, as these guys are feeling each other out,
and they did have history. Both of them grew up
fighting together in Baltimore, you know, neighboring cities and it
was yeah, and so Tank Davis had the two to
zero record against him as they were amateurs and fighting

(44:06):
for the national team. But you wouldn't know that by
the way, Lamont Roach stood toe to toe with him,
and I think he definitely garnered some respect in the
fighting world because he was able to take some of
those blows from Tank Davis and deliver some of his
own all night long. He counted with that right, and.

Speaker 1 (44:23):
Did he drop them on the connors?

Speaker 2 (44:26):
Okay, So the controversy, and while we're talking about this
is in the ninth round, it appeared that Travonte Tank Davis.
You know, he took a knee.

Speaker 1 (44:38):
He did.

Speaker 2 (44:38):
He took a knee, and it wasn't because he got hit.
It wasn't like, oh, it was a series of blows
and it allowed he stumbled back and took a knee
and bowed out. You could see him in a squabble
and then he lets up, looks over at referee Steve
Willis and then goes to take the knee before run

(45:00):
to his corner asking for a towel. And so his
explanation here, let's see see I think I could pull
this up right here, so we can hear his explanation.
Let's hear how it went down, and uh, then we'll
go from there. So this is what it sounded like
to us. Okay, So that was referee Steve Willis at

(45:44):
the end saying, you take a knee like that, it's
gonna be a knockdown. And so to most fight fans
that was to be the case right. We had a
similar issue with Floyd Mayweather. He was fighting two thousand
and one bout. But it so fight fans thought, for sure, okay,
this round is going to go to Lamont roach and

(46:06):
it was not the case. And so because the fight
ended in what they called a majority draw. That was
one fifteen one thirteen for Tank Davis and then one
fourteen one fourteen from the two remaining judges giving that
fight a majority draw. So if you count that as
a knockdown and he wins that round ten to eight,

(46:28):
you have a new champion and finally undefeated. No more
would be tank case. So that was a huge controversy.
And then I think what's more controversial than Steve Willis
and the judges not ruling that a knockdown was the
explanation itself. And so here is Travante Tank Davis saying

(46:51):
why he took the knee ago and she hit breas
in my ship. So the ship was like you know,
like when.

Speaker 1 (47:05):
You sweating and things like that, and the creuse coming
round my face and it burnt my eyes. Damn. Why
y'all going like I'm saying bullshit, like this is real
fat Come on, man, look at my head. That's not cool, man, yet.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
Turn that I would not have that.

Speaker 1 (47:39):
Weaseling in my house. So I got into his eyes.

Speaker 2 (47:45):
So he's saying he couldn't see. He's saying hair grease.
But and I understand that that's a feasible thing. There
are people who are defending him. So glow media was
an acid? Was an acid? I don't know what it was.
And look, none of us were in his head and
his body in that ring, so we don't know if

(48:07):
that's what it is. Right when you throw the cardio
and you get a little sweat in your eyes, it
could burn, right, Yeah, fighters, you definitely need your vision
and you want to be there. But obviously his explanation
of it two days ago, his hair, you know, getting done,
and the crowd was not happy with that reaction, especially
because you know, with boxing there's a lot of money

(48:29):
exchanging hands, a lot of money. So for him to
have been the heavy favorite and you know, people to
get that explanation in the manner in which he delivered it,
I felt like they people were feeling jilted. People were
feeling that they were taking the yeah yeah, and so
you know, for me, except I'm a casual boxing fan.
I would like to see a resurgence in the sport.

(48:50):
I thought the fight itself was fantastic. These guys were
going at it around seven through twelve, and you know,
for that situation to have happened in the middle of
the ninth round, it's unfortunate for boxing. It's unfortunate for
boxing fans. But I do highly advise you take a look,
go back and watch the fight if you haven't seen it.
It really was a good bout against two fighters who

(49:12):
are familiar, who had mutual respect for one another. But again,
I have that kind of controversy be the talking story
out of it. You know, it's just a shame. And
of course they want to run it back.

Speaker 1 (49:23):
Of course, Ken can you say it. You're gonna have
a rematch?

Speaker 2 (49:26):
Absolutely, they both agreed to it. They're nothing done in writing,
of course. You know, that's why you have your sponsors,
that's why you have your agents, that's why you have
the people at your corner making these decisions. And of course,
when there's a belt on the line, there's other implications
are sanctioned fight. So they say they want to run
it back in New York. We'll see if that ever
does happen if they Yeah, I definitely will. We'll tune

(49:50):
into that fight. But just very interesting. I learned a
little bit. One thing I love about sports and having
this podcast with you is that I'd like to be
a student of the life, and being a student of
sports is something you're always learning, Like what, how exactly
do they score these? Yeah, you know, it's it's very
interesting to me, especially not growing up in the boxing world.

(50:12):
But I did appreciate the mutual respect both fighters had
for each other, and I was grateful that I got
to watch the fight.

Speaker 1 (50:19):
I wish I could to see that it's only going
one interesting fight.

Speaker 2 (50:23):
Well, I advise you go check it out. I'll send
you the YouTube link so you can go. I mean
the fight fight only lasted forty minutes right of actual
fight time. It's probably a condensed version online so you
won't have to sit through all the corner talk. But
very very entertaining fight when they're actually throwing blows. So
I skip the first two rounds, you'd be all right.

Speaker 1 (50:43):
You know, it's a feeling out process in the first two.

Speaker 2 (50:46):
Rounds, absolutely, and it really goes to make you appreciate
I know a lot of people don't like Florid Mayweather Junior,
but my goodness was he a tactician and very skilled
defensive fighter and had that record at fifty and oh
really puts in perspective because Toronte Tank Davis now is
thirty oh and one with that draw, so a little
blemish on this record, was hoping obviously to be thirty

(51:09):
one and oh with I think it's twenty three twenty
four knockouts something like that. So good. He's got a
lot of dynamite in his hands, but so does little
Mott Roach, and I'm really glad that he, uh put
it on display. Both both fighters really showed some heart
out there, even if one of them's got some chicken
grease in his hair that's getting in his eyes and
costing people, costing people, bunny. So you know that's that's

(51:33):
that's all I got for you today. Is I really
appreciate you taking the time and jumping and joining on
this episode here, all of you guys listening, no matter
where you're listening, we appreciate you. In the Big Island
sports Talk.

Speaker 1 (51:43):
Yes, thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (51:45):
Yeah, brother, No, let's get a chee who and get
out of here. Three two one sh
