Speaker 1 (00:00):
Cheer.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
What's up? What's up? Everybody? Welcome back to another episode
of Dig Island Sports Talk. So I am Brother no
and always with me is my man brother Matthew Barker.
What's up, my man?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Hey man, I'm back baby, we are back. Here we go.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Nice to talk about today?

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Oh we have a lot to talk about for you guys.
Thank you so much for tuning into the show and
making this podcast special. Today we got some NFL trades,
trades and more trades going down. But not only that,
we got some people getting paid.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Show me, show me the money.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Uh. Then we got to talk a little bit of baseball.
It's not too early for that, but just just a
little bit of baseball. And of course we got to
hit the NBA because we've got lots happening with the
season dwindling down, so lots of sports talk here on
the Big Island Sports Talk Show. But first and foremost,
got a check in with brother Noel Man. You look good,
nice hat.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yes, thank you, thank you. I'm so excited. I didn't
know what we just signed Adams. I just got.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
So Yes, sir, you're telling me you're excited about signing
an old man. I mean I could have sent you
to the to the old folks home on the corner
right there. You could have signed somebody. It would have
been cheaper.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
It'll be cheaper. But his numbers don't lie. And in
the last decade he's been one of the best receivers.
And I think you got like maybe a couple more
years where we got Stafford for another two years, So
maybe we can do a run in that two years.
So hopefully.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Okay, I like your optimism, but we're definitely going to
get into that. Well actually, well let's start there. So
for the listeners, he's got a big old RAMS hat
on and it looks good. It looks so clean, it's
like you don't ever wear it. So that's that's that's
something I don't know if I should be concerned about.
But look, you seem excited about the Davonte Adams to
the Rams trade. So Davonte Adams was traded from the

(02:18):
New York Jets, that dumpster fire, that is, the New
York Jets, and now he is with the La Rams
on a two year deal for forty six million dollars.
So showed me the money, show me the show him
the money, and they did, and so you were optimistic
with saying, you know, he's a prolific wide receiver for

(02:38):
the last decade. We did see a little flash with
this homeboy Aaron Rodgers in a Jets uniform. But you
think that he is a better option than Cooper.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Cup well, way better, way better. This guy has been
an iron man. You hardly get hurt. The last time
I think it was in two tenty eighteen when he
played only twelve twelve games and you almost cracked the
tsion yards and in that year too dismissed it by
so many yards. But he's consistent, proved if he does
have a good quarterback with him, he is going to

(03:11):
put up the numbers and uh Pooka on the other
side of him. I don't think he's going to see
that much double teams interesting and he doesn't get hurt
as like like Cup. I think Cup was then to
tell his his Tripper Crown year. That's the only time
that he was healthy. Other than that, he was just
missing games here and there.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
So you seem happy, you're glowing over here, then I'm happy.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I'm happy. That was a good pickup, That damn good
pickup at.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
What you mentioned before to the important piece. Your quarterback
is locked up. Matt Stafford is coming back. He will
be in l a Ram at least for the foreseeable future.
And if depending on how you look at it, people
would say at this stage in his career, he is
better than Aaron Rodgers. Not everybody, right, I mean, I'm
not a huge fanom as a person, but as a

(04:01):
quarterback he I mean, he's one of the best to
ever do it, obviously, so, but you're saying him. The
only reason I asked us is I'm looking at their
ages here. Davante Adams is thirty two years old, which
is not old binding any means, but for a wide
receiver it's up there. And Cooper Cup is only thirty one.
And now you mentioned before that, Yeah, Cooper Cup out

(04:23):
of the two, has had a triple Crown season and
it's not DeVante Adams. So and then looking at their contract,
Cooper Cup signed a three year, eighty million dollar deal
in twenty twenty two to stay with the Rams through
the twenty twenty six seasons. So again, it just goes
to show you signing these contracts in NFL doesn't really
mean anything. There's always a way to defer the money.

(04:46):
There's always buyouts, there's always trades, and we'll get into.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
The trades, yes, and the other team taking on the contract.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Yeah, I guess. I guess you've got that. So, I mean,
I look DeVante Adams. I'm not here hate on him.
He is a fantastic route runner. He's not a burner.
He is a tactician, okay, in and out of breaks,
sure handed, for sure. He definitely did have more drops
this past season than we're accustomed to seeing. But chalk
that up to the pressures of being in New York, right,

(05:16):
Chock that up to being a savior of trying to
come and you know, be the crutch, you know, to
fix that team and propel Aaron Rodgers back to greatness.
I think he should just walk away. That's just me.
We'll get to that once we find out which team
is going to take a chance on him. Could be
the Vikings. How about that?

Speaker 2 (05:33):
It wouldn't following in Brett's farv shoes.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Well, as long as he doesn't do the Mississippi welfare
gam all that. Yeah, as long as he doesn't do that,
I would be totally okay with that. But again, we'll
we'll get to him going down the line. But but
with your rams here, with matt Stafford, this was a
team who was in the Super Bowl, was a twenty

(05:59):
twenty one, twenty one yeah against the Bengals. Okay, so
you believe that their window is still open.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yes, I truly believe we were just like twenty yards
away from beating the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yeah. I got a good point that it.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Was in the snow. Everybody taught you about maybe four
minutes left into that game, it was it was over.
The game was pretty much over. When Barkley breaked out
that sixty yard run. Everybody thought the game was over.
Matthew Stafford brought it back. Our young defense got a safety,
march it down, got what six points? They got the

(06:34):
ball back again and march it down and almost win
the game. And there's still only and I think darrensch
Lay said the only is the only team that actually
scared them in their playoff run.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Pressure was on? Pressure was on. Well, no, that's a
good point, and you brought up a few, so I'll reiterate.
You mentioned that young defense. You're right, Jared Verus as
a defensive end, they are young. But and you do
have a quarterback that is a custom to fourth quarter comebacks,

(07:07):
and so to see, I mean, I can see how
you're very excited about this window, and I can totally
see it. I could definitely see something like this going
down here for you and then making a deep playoff run.
They did play the Eagles really well, and I will
if if, if you know, if I was in your shoes,

(07:28):
i'd be looking up and and saying, praise job right
because and and not to mention, just a few years
ago they were a seller, right. F the picks, that's
what they were.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Saying, forget the picks. Yeah, let's get let's get a ring.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
I don't know why I think I got to run
up the stairs, like I'm not in that same ship,
all breathing hard and everything trying to get back in this.
I think I think in my head I'm a young man,
but the thirty four, I'm like you could.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Your money says you're young, but your body says he,
I don't know, we're not young.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
My body is telling me no anyway, Like I'm over
here talking about old quarterbacks and I'm over here like, whoo,
the stairs are getting me tired. Listen to me, By golly,
he's a weasel. But yeah, I mean, look again, I
love your enthusiasm. I absolutely believe that you have a

(08:25):
window because when you do have a young defense that
is as discipline and focused as your team was, I mean,
the sky is the limit. What is the saying defense
wins championships?

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Right, chips they.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Were one Jalen Carter bat away from or pressure, I
will say, yeah, yeah, so good point. All right, Well,
look you have every right to be excited, and so
does the Raiders. I guess they have Geno Smith now
at quarterback and Raiders a West getting a shake up.

(08:59):
What do you think about Gino Smith and Pete Carroll reuniting.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Familiar folk? You know what Gino has and what his
weakness and straits is. I'm seeing maybe maybe maybe a
receiver or running back, but I'm guessing maybe, uh, Pete
Carroll goes running back because he's such an old school
kind of guy. Run the ball and use the play

(09:27):
action when you run the ball, and there are a
couple of picks away from being good.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah, I mean, and even just looking at the numbers
last year, Gino Smith surprisingly had a good season, came
in at number eight uh in offensive passing grades. So
I mean looking at the top of the list, you
have names and no surprise, Lamar Jackson who should have
been the MVP, Joe Burrow right behind him, who had

(09:53):
a great season even though his defense let him down.
The actual MVP de I or not. Josh Allen came
in third, oh lord. And then you have a Justin Herbert,
who people think is good. I personally don't think he's elite,
and we'll have to get into that at the other time.
But then behind him Jadon Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes
at seven, and then Gino Smith right there at eight.

(10:16):
So the Seahawks right now are a selling team, right
They got there getting rid of.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Everything, They're getting rid of everybody.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Yeah, you got to feel good about that. As a RAMS,
you had the forty nine ers with a down year.
They got rid of Deebo Samuels. Last week we talked
about it. You have the Seattle Seahawks as a sellers
team right now. Arizona is well Arizona right so there
is no reason why you shouldn't be the favorite to
win the NFC West this year. And you know, going

(10:46):
back to the Geno Smith thing, I personally like Geno
Smith or Geno's Pizza as Rob Parker for FS one
calls them. But I think him and Pete Carroll can
can do some damage if they do get the running
game going. Don't ask him to do too much, and
you know, we'll see. Obviously, I don't want the Raiders
to prevail. The AFC West is already invitation. Yeah uh,

(11:11):
but but I do like to see quarterbacks getting a
change of environment and thriving. A fresh look, you know, yeah,
a fresh look and a fresh look for Dk Metcalf
who got traded to the Steelers. What what are your
thoughts there? Now you got to deal with George Pickens
and Dk Metcalf.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
That's gonna be trouble. I don't know who they're gonna
keep the keeping, Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
That was the next question I was gonna ask, because
last last week you said you're hoping Justin Fields goes
to the Jets like they would they go young. Right,
you got Aaron Glenn there's the new head coach. Yes,
but now Justin Fields, Yeah, he's a younger player of
the two. But Russell Wilson throws a pretty deep ball.
And now you have two straight line you know, physical.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Big physical, Yeah, receivers.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Yeah, so do you if if you had to, you're
the GM of the Steelers, who do you go with?

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Oh, that's a tough one. I'll go with Russell Wilson
just because he's been there before, and this team might
be a playoff team, you know, with with with with
Russell Wilson, and he did go deep in the PU
He actually did win a Super Bowl, so all the
experiences there. Did he play with Metcalf? Yeah? He did? Yeah,

(12:30):
with DK. Yeah, so there's there's some sort of chemistry
right there.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
I didn't even make that. I totally forgot that he
did play with DK and Seattle before.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Yeah, so and the and the chemistry is there, So
I can see why not there. That was a good
move on the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
We have. That's okay. So I mean we may have
answered that question there just because and look, Russell is
what he is, thirty five thirty six. Maybe they did
have a winning record up, I mean, they did lose
five straight last year, and then include the playoffs. They
do have a playoffs drout. I haven't won a playoff game.

(13:07):
I think was it's twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen something like that. No,
it's not not been that long. Maybe twenty eighteen. I'll
have to double check those on the commercial break. But
you go with the veteran. He's got the experience. Now.
Mike Tomlin obviously a lot of folks feel like he
should be on the hot seat. I disagree. I'm thinking
he's never had a losing record.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Yeah, yeah, I don't think he should be on the
hot seat.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
But you know, sometimes the message gets stale, right, and
sometimes maybe just switching it up can get that team
who has aging superstars? Right? Cayward? How much longer does
he have? TJ? Watt if he's not hurt. You know,
he's one of the best, the multiple time Defensive Player
of the Year. Yes, you know, so sometimes you gotta
cut bait. Look what happened with Tony Dungee when he

(13:52):
was in Tampa Bay. Couldn't get him over the hump?
Bring in John Gruden. That team wins a Super Bowl
right over the Raiders, right right. I mean, of course,
there are ways that could go the opposite way, where
if Mike Tomlin does somehow lose his job, which I
doubt it because I believe it's the Rooney family that owns.
The Steelers have only had three coaches since the sixties, right,

(14:14):
so I doubt that they will ever just let Mike
Tomlin go. But if he does, he won't be unemployed
for long.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
And so some I was gonna pick up on real fast.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yeah, I have no I have no doubt that he
will be able to figure out this quarterback situation, because
let's reflect, he had a Mason Rudolph, he had a
Kinnie Pickett. He was dealing with Mitch Trubisky of all people, right,
these were his quarterbacks, the last sea in between what
he's got now and the Ben Roethlisberger days. So uh,

(14:49):
it's certainly been worse for them and for Steeler fans
who are used to winning, you know, and now are
getting taste of being the second best team in Pennsylvania.
You know, you guys deal with it.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Sorry, Yeah, but I think it with with that defense
and and now with DK Metcalfe, maybe get the running
game going. I don't know if they're gonna bring on
what's his name back, Harris back. I don't maybe find
another running back is free agency. If they're not going
that that route, there might be in a playoff with

(15:22):
with that with that team, I can see him making
the playoffs. I'll see why not.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
No, I'm trying to see. I'm thinking of the running
backs they had Jalen Warren, who is a little scat
back who I thought was very excitement. But you're right,
Naja Harris, that's what I saying. I couldn't put. I
couldn't think of his first name. Was he in Alabama
running back?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Yes, yes, okay, I.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Was thinking I was like he was in Georgia, but
but yeah, No, Honestly, he's been pretty consistent. I think
he's he's had a thousand yard seasons every year he's
been out all again, I'll have to look that up.
But it's just their offensive line. Theyve had issues with
the offensive line. And his game is not as pretty
as some when like a Derrick Henry where he's gonna
just break it off, although he does have some highlights,

(16:04):
some pretty powerful stiff arms. But again, you're right, if
they can get the running game, imagine if.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
They're going with Derrick Henry last year and picked them
up this offense.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Yeah, it would have taken the pressure off of your
quarterbacks for sure. But look, we will see. Honestly, like
I mean look, the Steelers being down. I do not
lose any sleep over that. Again, they they've been the
super Bowls in my lifetime. Who can forget right, Jerome
bettis retiring after winning the super Bowl in Detroit, you know,
I think in Detroit forty Yeah. And you know Antoine

(16:36):
Randa l those days Hindes Award. Yeah, like, come on,
like they've had to if we can remember these highlights
in our heads as we recall them, your team is
all right, Okay, not everybody can be right. The Chiefs
running off two straight and going to three straight, right, right? Honestly? Oh,
and to that, you know, I just want to just

(16:57):
transition to players who our returning to their teams. Travis Kelce.
Some argue the best tight end of all time is
coming back to the Kansas City Chiefs, And what are
your thoughts on that?

Speaker 2 (17:09):
I'll tell you, I think it's just the Super Bowl left.
I think he just wanted to run it back, just
for proof to everybody that he still got it.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
But does he though? I mean he was held Now.
I know that the Eagles defense was fantastic, but they
brought him to zero catches in that first half. I mean,
he looked into pedestrian to say the least. And I
mean I get it, of course. I think maybe he
would have retired if they had won that, you know,
maybe did the proposal the Taylor Swift.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
I think so, I think in the sunset on the retiring.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
But would you rather see like, like we said, we
begin the segment arguably the greatest tight end of all time.
Do you want to see him in a diminished role?
Do you want to see him thirty two yards a
game and just I don't know, stat padding, just trying
to hang on just for the sake of maybe we'll
save Travis Kelsey for the playoffs because that's when he's good.

(18:11):
The Patriots did a little bit of that with Rob
Gronkowski down because it.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Was just level Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
But I mean, do you want to go out like.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
That or do you want to say I think he
was diminished from last year because I get a couple
of guys that draft him, draft him Higan fantasy like
in the second round, and that was you could see
it was the year before that where his game was
wasn't too good. What was was decreasing year after year,

(18:40):
and uh, I think this was last year. I don't
think it I know he's coming back. I don't think
he's going to be that good. I think he's gonna
be using using him as like a decoy kind of guy,
just because of because of him, his name and with
what he can do. There was just using him as
a decoy this year. He wasn't to getting too much

(19:03):
big numbers, and like you said, he only shows up
in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
Well, and I understand you can use him as a
decoy when you have Rashid Rice, which he is recovering
great from MCL surgery, and else he's good.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
At the beginning, yea, at the beginning of the year,
he's he got hurt. He's a beast.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
And you know, who knows what Juju Smith Schuster's future
is gonna be. But but one thing we know, their
first round pick, Xavier Worthy, who was a stud, had
a great rookie season right the first time he touched
the ball in the end a round. He scored early
this year. But the Chiefs always seem to be running
into trouble in the offseason this time of year. If

(19:43):
it's not Andy Reid's son driving over somebody to you know,
for better terms whatever, and you know, getting into that
getting arrested for driving under the influence. It's a it's
a Kansas City wide receiver getting in some kind of trouble.
And yes, Xavier Worthy was arrested on felony domestic violence
charges in Texas just not two days ago. So what

(20:05):
is it? Is it a culture thing? Like I can't
imagine something like this happening had they won.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
And too much freedom that the coach are given them.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
I mean, there's the off season and they're coming off
of his first season with the team, but losing the
Super Bowl of course, and you know, looking into this,
this this domestic violence was went towards suffocating someone that
was in his own family, right. But again, like you've
got Rashid Rice, like I mentioned, was recovering from his
injury before that was involved in speeding and you know

(20:38):
what it's called a felony in this country, which is
a hit run and you know what I mean. So
it's like it's a discipline thing. It's a culture thing
where yeah, all that gets brushed under the rug because
you're winning and you've got Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelcey
taking all the sunshine. But when this stuff comes outs,
it's ugly head it is. It's just nasty stuff. And

(21:01):
you know, I mean, you know what the NFL stands for,
not for long.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Not for long. And I was thinking the same thing
about what his name, Henry Ruggs. Henry Ruggs knew exactly
what you were talking about.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Yeah, by golly, he's a weasel speeding.

Speaker 2 (21:17):
They got rid of him. Now, I don't know if
they might get rid of him because what I've been
with with with Kareem Hunt.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Yeah, and it's good that.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
They got rid of him. Yeah, And I don't know
what kind of discline is then gonna give worthy, so
only only time could tell. But that's crazy. How on
the off season, like you said, I got to see
the receiver it's always getting into trouble, speeding or domestic violence.
It's crazy.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah, I saw this thread. It showed like Kansas City
wide receivers in the off season, and the first two
or three were Tyreek Hill and it shows right next
to him an asterisk that says felling and you see
for sheep Rice felling. Now you see Xavier word he
fell in again. And then in between that was Andy
Reich's son. I think his name is Britt b r.
I t T I the double check. But but again

(22:08):
it's it's one of those things where it's like the
NFL and you know, a couple of weeks ago we
were talking about Justin Tucker. I haven't seen any more
news on that, but you know, just hoping the NFL
is doing their due diligence and the Baltimore Ravens as well,
because the Baltimore Banner they are they are reporting on
this and they're following up closely. As again, you had

(22:29):
sixteen women come out alleging these ugly, nasty things that
have happened.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Oh yeah, that did not mess around. And what happened
to ray Rice?

Speaker 1 (22:38):
There you go and going on the top of.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
His peak, on top of his game, got rid of
him just like that.

Speaker 1 (22:43):
And ray Rice was a fantastic running back. And I
think I'm back packing this back to Xavier Worthy was
I think he's just lucky that there was no video
that came out. Yeah, And that was the difference because
we knew about the Ray Rice. You would hear rumblings
about it, but when we saw that video.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
That was like, what nasty? You don't have to take action?

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Right? The same thing? Withere she Rice? You know, people
were good, Thank goodness. You know somebody you see somebody
fleeing accident. They don't know that that's a star wide
receiver for the for the cancer.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Just they're just because it's it's it's somebody gonna.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
Yeah. They see some dreadhead taking off down I ninety
five and and it fleeing the scene, and you know,
I just think again, it's it's ugly. This is not
the kind of thing that you want to see in
your off season. And I mean, Andy Reid is not
the kind of coach to come out and uh, you
know make statements like this. Who would care anyway? If

(23:38):
I if I'm him, I'm like jug Head from the
Archie comics, just stuff in my face full of hamburgers
in the off season and trying to figure out what
what what? What went wrong?

Speaker 2 (23:48):
You know, what went wrong?

Speaker 1 (23:50):
No, well, look that that's negative. That's the heavy side
of sports, you know. You know, I just want to
stay here with some cuts. I actually have to queue
up the boys to men. It's so to say yes, yes, yes,
singing brother, and I will say, I mean, we talked

(24:11):
about it last week. We're gonna move into some NFL cuts.
Players who are no longer with their team. First one
on the list, Von Miller. We talked about it just that.
We were joking about it last week about how he's
old and how he should just go retire and hang
out with his chickens because the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo Bills
just said, you know, we've had enough on campaign with
all that money. So he was cut. Another defensive end

(24:34):
who has a lot of talent and is always hurt,
Joey Bosa. You know, I want to say something that
get us in trouble. I'm just leaving it that. Not
a big fan of Joey Bosa the person as the player.
He's all right, but the Chargers evidently don't think so.
So he's no longer with them. And Evan Ingram former

(24:54):
wide receiver, wide receiver, former tight end the New York
Giants and most recently with the Jags. It's no longer
with those those Jacksonville Jaguars. And either is Christian Kirk
who got traded in Division two Houston of all people.
So I'm thinking Stepan Diggs, who got hurt midway through
the season, is not going to remain with that team.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Yeah, he ain't coming back. I heard the news that
he ain't coming back to the team.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Well, like I said, I like Stefan Diggs and obviously
we'll always remember the the.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
Miracle again, phenomenal routrunner.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Yeah, fantastic hands to You might go to the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
You never know.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
I can't tell if you'd be.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Chargers, you know. So I'm just taking a wholes that
need receiver help or the Bears, you know.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Yeah, because they got old Keenan Allen with the Bears
and the Chargers ain't doing nothing, man, So how's Justin
Herbert gonna be elite? Got Ladi McConkie. Ladi McConkey had
a great rookie season. I know because Valerie had him
on her fantasy team. What do you think the pros
are here? But but he's gonna be your You can't

(26:07):
trust Quentin Johnson. He can't catch a cold in Antarctica
with no clothes. On the Charger. The Chargers who got
this big name head coach and Jim Harball, they're not
gonna get a wide receiver or they're really gonna just
try to just draft rookies and play the cheap way.

(26:27):
Why didn't they go for decaf? Why didn't they go
for Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
That'll be perfect with him and Justin Herbert. Maybe they can.
He's had a big arm shushed the field.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
I don't know. Again, as a Broncos fan, I don't care.
I want the charges to go.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Yeah, I want everybody to go down. I mean, like, partly,
you listen to this podcast long enough, you know I
want Sean Payton to go down too. So it's like
I went in the long run. I want him to
struggle and get off to a rocky start. I want
bow Knicks to look well so we have some confidence.
And they say, get to that old guy. All right,
you know what am I saying? Get him off my team?
Get off my team, Get them off my team. Well,

(27:10):
let's let's take a quick commercial break, and when we
come back, a special edition of Show Me the Money,
you're going to talk about some NFL players who got
the bag and some who deserve it and some maybe
didn't deserve it. Brother Noel Matt Parker, Big Island Sports
talk Show will be right back.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Hey, folks, don't you just hate it when you're in
an argument with your spouse, or you're not feeling good
or just got laid off and you have to hear
music sounds like this drives me nuts. These commercials think
they know is best for us. No, I don't want
your thirty percent off on Tuesday's calls. And you know
what else, I'm gonna go out of my way to
not shop at your.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Story just because your commercial music was so annoying.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
I like the balls on this guy, So yeah, moving forward,
I'm not doing business with you. This was not a
paid advertisement by Coles.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
All right, welcome back to the Big Guy Let's first
talk show. Hey, I hope you enjoyed that commercial. You know,
I'm so goofy sometimes. My whole thing is, we want
this to be fun. We want this to be informative.
But I definitely have fun with those commercials.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
I like it, man, I like those commercials.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
I just I'm here for the people. Man, all right,
I'm here for the people just like you are. You
just want to laugh? Is the day I met you,
you were laughing. You got a big party laugh. I
use your laugh and all the drops. You got a
real contagious laugh. People hear your laugh and.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Oh yeah, said I can't find them into a party crowd. Yeah,
can definitely. I can definitely pick up where he is.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
And that's good man. You got you got a big
light heart, and you just it's contagious again. You pick
people up with that big laugh. But look, if if I,
you know, didn't have a big laugh like yours, I
would probably just be laughing on the way to the bank.
I don't even know it's a bad transition because I'm

(29:12):
looking at these contracts. But let's start with the MVP
quarterback Josh Allen got a new contract with his Buffalo Bills.
And this contract is this contract is a big one.
So now we know why they can't pay Von Miller
had sent him home with the chickens because they were

(29:32):
packing up a bunch of money to give to the quarterback.
And this is this contract. It is a record setting
six year, three hundred and thirty million dollar contract with
two money exactly two hundred and fifty million guaranteed.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Oh lord, show me the money.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
That's the largest guarantee given to an NFL player. Okay,
So and this here's the thing too. He still had
four years left on his deal.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Okay, the goat, he beat the goat twice. That's star
Brady's daddy were talking about right there.

Speaker 1 (30:04):
So there was no need to do this, but.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Maybe they had another two more years where you can
just pull money his old contract and maybe he can
show you something in those two years, because.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
You mean, like beat the Chiefs, maybe to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Yeah, exactly, exactly.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
I'm not hating on the man. Look, I like when
people get their money. Again, we said NFL is not
for long.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Yeah, get your money when you can. I guess.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
Yeah. And these teams they talk about these contracts, they
did it four years early. But my problem is, we
mentioned last week James Cook had a phenomenal season ten
rushing touchdowns, was pivotal into them with the success they had,
and takes a lot of pressure off of Josh Allen
even though he gets his goal line touchdowns snaked away
by this guy. Right, everybody knows Josh Allen's going left

(30:54):
on his quarterback sneak, right. We figured that out in
the AFC Championship game. Right. But James Cook was adamant
saying that he wants more money. And so if I'm
him looking at this post and seeing, oh wait a minute,
so you guys can overpay for somebody four years early
and not take care of me. If I'm him, if
I'm him. I'm thinking, you know what, with the trend

(31:18):
that Joe Mixon had last year, and Aaron Jones who
got a two year, twenty million dollars deal with the Vikings,
and Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley had last year, why
wouldn't I want to throw my hat in the ring
and test the market and demand a trade. To see
a team like the Raiders who need a good running back,
dependable running back and have new regime, the Jets, which

(31:39):
they have Breice Hall, and that they're at a running back.
Maybe that's not a good example, but again you see
in the kind of deal that they just gave Josh
Allen four years early.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
Maybe Titans, you know, yeah, Titans.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Who have the first pick in the draft. Maybe it's Shadoor,
maybe it's cam Ward, I don't know. Yeah, but anyway,
I just think, again, it's this is all monopoly money.
They can play with this money, they can defer it.
And it's just it's just crazy to see the disrespect
for the running back openly saying he wants to get
paid and watching everybody else like t Higgins, wide receiver

(32:17):
for the Bengals, gets another franchise tag but they're gonna
give Mike Giseki, who had two receiving touchdowns, a three year,
twenty five million dollar deal. Like, I get the numbers
are not comparable, but it's like who you take care
of this person? But you're not gonna say.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Kim Higgins he can be a number one receiver in
any other team.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
He would I would love to have him for my
Broncos if I had sudden Courtland Higgins with then you
talk about a move that's really gonna help, really gonna
help a young quarterback in his second year.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Developed Higgins is the guy for doing yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
And so I don't know, it's just for me. Again,
you look at these contracts and this is the NFL
making headlines in the off season. So you know somebody else.
We already talked about Davonte getting his two years, forty
six million dollars. You're happy about that, But another big
one that dropped Miles Garrett. Miles Miles Garrett. Just that

(33:12):
was announced. He has a four year, one hundred and
sixty million dollars deal. Show me the money, Show me
the money, show him the money. That's forty million dollars
per year.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
This is the is this the same guy that wanted
to trade, like maybe just three days ago. He's no,
he's accepting. Okay, I'll just take the loss. I'll just
give it the money. I'll just take the losses. He's
just complaining about I'm going to a contender team, making
a playoff run, trying to get that ring money. Damn

(33:48):
it could change it.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Guys. I'm so glad you brought that up because I
have his exact quote right here. Miles Garrett, star defensive
and former defensive player year for the Cleveland Browns, announced
a trade essentially to the city of Cleveland. Right he
put it on social media. It was out there in
a long soliloquy if you will, about all this. But

(34:11):
in that he said quote, the goal was never to
go from Cleveland to Canton. It has always been to
compete for and win a Super Bowl. Hey, Miles, what happened?

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Lucy super Bowl? Browns can tell you that.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
With all that money they're paying him, I guess he can.
He can afford to go to the Super Bowl for
the next forty years.

Speaker 2 (34:37):
And it was crazy. They gotta pay no Joku, they
gotta pay Chubb, they gotta they stay pain for Deshaun
Watson Watson over there.

Speaker 1 (34:47):
Oh and Deshaun Watson's money ain't going nowhere, even though
he will not be suited up at least for the
first part of the season, right because he had a
on achilles tear and then retre it. Right. So uh
but ye, yeah, you mentioned that he wanted to go
to a contender, and all of a sudden the money
just made him change his mind. And so if I'm

(35:09):
a Cleveland Brown fan, I'm looking at this guy sideways.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
I will not have that weaseling in math house.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Right, I mean, I'm happy, Yeah, we got him back.
He is a great player, he is you know, to
do it, you know, Yes, yeah, I think he's slightly
better than than Michael Parsons, and I do think he
is better than jat especially at this point in his career,
So you could put him up there in that top tier.
But yes, if you don't have your word, what do

(35:38):
you have? Man? And you know he's all involved in
the community there. I believe he does have ownership in
some franchise. I think he has minor ownership in the
Cleveland Cavaliers. I'm pretty sure. I'll check on that one here.
But so he's involved in the community. He is. I
know he left and he loves it. But when you

(35:58):
say the goal never to go from Cleveland to Canton,
which Canton is in Ohio, that's you're about as close
as you can get from there. With his statistics, you
can make the Hall of Fame even though you don't
win the Super Bowl. As a defensive end, you can,
right It's quarterbacks are really the one position that's like, okay,

(36:21):
this is the one where we kind of look at it.
Perfect example. You know, look at Eli Manning. You had
two rings both against the goat Tom Brady.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Right, that's Tom Brady's daddy we be talking about right
there too.

Speaker 1 (36:31):
Super Bowl MVPs, but he didn't get in. Yeah, so
I don't know. Again, instead of instead.

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Of accepting that big contract, gonna just you know, like
with that money, can we build a playoff contending team?
That's all I be asking the owners, Like, with this
money you're about to give me, can we spread it
on and make a run at the playoffs or something,
you know, or trying to get this franchise to winning again.

(37:02):
And if that soul, so be it. If you're just
talking about winning super Bowls and one day and the
next day like, what the hell, I would take all
the losses, it just show me the money.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
But he said it. He said it too, And then
I was reading into this too, because you know, is
he really this team team guy? Now? The last quarterback
that had some success there you could argue with Joe Flacco,
but he fell apart during the playoff game, but he did,
he got them there in the playoffs. But the last
quarterback to win a playoff game for those Cleveland Browns

(37:36):
and break that drought was Baker Mayfield. And it's come
out that Miles Garrett was on the side of let's
get Baker Mayfield out of here. So imagine that if
I'm a Browns fan, the last quarterback that actually won
us a playoff game, which is the most important position
in football, right it is, And then you find out

(37:58):
that your star defensive end who on February third of
this year requested a trade went out nothing to do
with us, and now all of a sudden you find
out he has he was a reason why you don't
have Baker Mayfield, who absolutely is thriving in Tampa Bay.

Speaker 2 (38:15):
I think to two playoff appearance, yeah, back to back year,
won the solid.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
I think, yeah, Towns forty touchdowns last year and that
was with Evans and God when both being heard at
different times, right.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
And I think he was like number two or number
one in Fantasy with most more yards and touchdown like
the boy, the boy, the boy can't play. You got
a surround with with talent like with with uh with Tampa,
they get two good stud receivers.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Plus you had Jaalen McMillan, who I picked him up
for a little bit.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
Yes, yes, he's gonna be good. That he's gonna be
good too.

Speaker 1 (38:55):
Yeah. I mean, just going back to the brown situation.
Thank goodness, we're not Browns fans, you know what I mean.
I just could not imagine, like like you look at
the Jets. You know why the Jets are bad? Okay,
front off is just making decisions that you just questioned them.
But like the Browns just seem to just be, you know, shoot.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Themselves on the foot every year. I know a Browns fan.
I used to work at the recycle. He used to
come drop off his recycles. This is the year. We're
beating Pittsburgh, We're beating Baltimore, we're beating Cincy. We're gonna
take the North, and this is the year that we
make the run. The beginning of the season, hot shirt, shorts, shoes,

(39:40):
all browns. Halfway through the season he comes back. What
happened with that next year? Man, I guess he got
it next year.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
You know what, you should have told him, this's a
great story. You should have told him, Hey, I know
you're working recycling, bro, you gotta stop taking swigs of
the of the Wounded Soldiers and the cansy fine, bro,
stop stop believing in the dog pound. He's over here
pounding you know, old beer, and believe in it.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
That's a great story. I love the visual.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
I just love the beginning of the year where everybody's like,
we're gonna do it. We're gonna do it. Half way
you like, I don't think we're gonna do it. They're
they're thinking about it's who sho would pick up in
the draft. It's not even halfway through the season when.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
The reality settles in, right, and you see what your
team has become, Right, That's that's pretty funny. Well, look,
let's transition. And I know it's a little bit early
to be talking about baseball. I only have one topic
and it's unfortunately like this is. This is a big name,
big name star in the game who just cannot stay healthy.

(40:46):
So let's hit this baseball draft. Folks haven't heard us
singing in twenty twenty five. Take me out to the
ball game, So let me hit this.

Speaker 2 (40:54):
Take me out to the ball game, take.

Speaker 4 (40:59):
Me out to the Crown.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
And then I want to talk about Jean Carlos, Stanton Carlos,
My goodness, my goodness. Right, So he he is a slugger.
He is the reason why the Yankees stayed in it
when Aaron Aaron Judge was, you know, a huge slump,
slump in the in the in the World Series. His
bat kept them afloat. Okay, yes, but I had to

(41:30):
look into this because it came out about a week
ago that he is going to need surgery on his
elbow and that this surgery is going to most likely
end his twenty twenty five season. And I just thought
of it the New York Yankees. And I know you
don't care as a Dodgers fan, but for the Yankees,

(41:50):
this is such a big blow, especially this yeah to
the Mets of all people right right across right, thanks,
And then I had to I was curious because there's
memes going around about Jean Carlos Stanton, who is a
champion who did win. He spent the start of his
career down in Florida with the Florida Marlins Miami Marlins

(42:15):
another name change. So he was there from twenty ten
until twenty seventeen and then even with the Yankees. His
tenure at the Ray Yankees, he's batted in eleven hundred
just over eleven hundred runs. Okay, he's an RBI machine.
Machine went healthy. But I had to look back at

(42:35):
his injury history. So this is a quick list. But
twenty nineteen, so that's when you were forming your league.
Here your text message and your ky up belt which
looks great. Thank you for sending me that picture. I'm
going to post that on the Big Island Sports Talk
Show Instagram page to see you in your hardware. Congratulations.
Jan Cras injury history in nineteen bicep and a knee

(42:59):
and a right quest twenty twenty, hamstring and a left hamstring,
two different injuries. Twenty twenty one, it's a quad, just
a quad. Twenty twenty two, it's a CAF, it's an achilles,
and it's a foot. Then you go to twenty twenty three,
it's a hamstring, then twenty twenty four it's another hamstring.

(43:24):
And then now to start or conclude his twenty twenty
five season, it's this elbow.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
Oh on album Wow.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
And I just think baseball. I mean, obviously, you know
I always make jokes. You just swing a bat four
times to night, play a little defense, and you make
the most money that you can in sports. I mean,
this guy's making twenty million dollars, twenty nine million dollars
a year. But you look at this list of injuries
and think, my goodness, what is going on? And it

(43:56):
just it just hurts my heart for the fans who
buy more tickets. The MLB sells more tickets than the NBA,
the NFL, any all the soccer leads combined. Okay, So
for you know, to see the positive changes in the game,
and you want to speed it up. You want a
guy like Jean Carlos stay and you go to the
park to see him.

Speaker 2 (44:15):
You know he's gonna show up, you know, yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
You know, you go there and to see Aaron Judge
swinging and missing three to four times a night, you know, striking.
I just again, I just I know it's a little
bit early for baseball, but it was one of those
things where I was just like, I just hope prayers.
I hate it.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
Yeah, I hate seeing guys like this, like good athletes,
constantly getting hurt, getting hurt, getting hurt. And now now
the the what if starts pumping off. What if you
could have been healthy? You know, what if he was
that would get hurt this year?

Speaker 1 (44:54):
We never know, you know what if he had this
elbow injury during the World Series, Yeah, you just didn't know,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (45:01):
Right, if it's not like that they're going to hide
some injuries from from trainers and staff just because they're
just they have they have pride and didn't want to play,
you know.

Speaker 1 (45:14):
Yeah, and as you know, as a fan, you you
lean on that pride. You'd love to see that. But again,
if he was hiding, it wasn't disclosed, and you know,
there's a lot of money changing hands. Uh. It's like, man,
I just I just wish him well, and yeah, I
really I really hope that he can get right and
just just be better, you know. So it's well, we'll see.

(45:37):
I mean I was just looking here, I mean four
hundred and seventeen at bats last year that was almost
one hundred more than a year before. Uh batted in
forty nine runs, had ninety seven hits, you know, three
short of one hundred seventy two ribbi's, and his average
was up.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
You know, yeah average, that's a good percent.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
So like to take a batter like that out of
your lineup. And we know that the Yankees are just
they're starting to implode, you know what I mean. We
mentioned you lost one Soto to the Mets over I
believe it was five million dollar difference. I think Yank
offered him to sixty over thirteen years and the Mets said, hey,
we'll give you to sixty five. And you know, maybe

(46:20):
it was the pressure of the pin stripes that made
him jump ship. But now looking at this this injury,
you as a Yankees fan, I'm sure you wish you
had him, wish he had so yeah, that's it. Just
wanted to talk a little baseball there.

Speaker 4 (46:33):
I don't carry if I never go back. So each
root root root potto, they don't win in some shame.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Oh lord, and.

Speaker 4 (46:47):
It's one, two, three strikes, you're out.

Speaker 2 (46:51):
At the FI.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
I just want to jump to basketball because you know
some things were coming up. Obviously you're a huge Lakers fan.
When you're not wearing the Rams hat, you got the
Lakers hat on. And the Lakers had a huge game
against the Celtics, their rival, last night, and lost one
to eleven to one to one. Jason Tatum went f

(47:23):
f stud Jalen Brown was shutting Luca down, and not
just him, but a forty year old Al Horford was
playing some of the best defense I've seen in a
long time. So for you, I mean, I know you
guys were on a hot streak. I think you had
won six seven straight games. Yes, and Luka Doncics actually

(47:45):
made some history at the most points by a Laker
in their first game against Boston since nineteen fifty eight.
Luka Doncics thirty four points, eight rebounds, and three assists
and then took one knee to the face of Al
Horford after he dunked the ball. I don't know what
he was thinking. Al Horford swinging around on the rim
coming back to end play, just walks underneath him and

(48:08):
just knocks you know.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Big man dunk. Get get out of the way.

Speaker 1 (48:13):
Just get out of the way. So yeah, I mean
your thoughts. Jason Tatum, give some more history. He had
forty plus points, twelve plus th reebounds and eight assists.
It's only been done three times in Celtic history. He's
got all three of those, yes, And he seems to
play the Lakers really well, so as Jalen Brown. He

(48:36):
loves to guard Luca DNCS. So big, big, big thing,
little thing, no thing. Lakers losing to the Celtics, their rival.

Speaker 2 (48:45):
Oh are you glad they lost? We can kind of
find out where we stand, what we need to what
more do we need to get there? And don't get
me wrong, Boston is defending champs. You gotta give that
to them. Man. They're they're falling on all cylinders and

(49:05):
hopefully ready can adjust and and uh hopefully get better
from here on out, because the playoffs is right around
the corner and is and we need to we got
to make a run, you know. And I'm pretty sure
the Boss is going to be there and they're going

(49:26):
to go deep in the playoffs because just like just
the players that they have, they're they're consistent and they
get all they're they're all around good and like you said,
they played good defense against Luca because Luca is he's big,
but he's he's slow. Jillie Brown is faster. He can
cut cut him off, you know, and give them put

(49:48):
pressure on him. And uh, I'm glad. I'm really glad
we got this lost. Now we can find out figure
out what what what it takes now to get there,
because Boston is the real deal.

Speaker 1 (50:04):
I think they are. And I'm looking at the Western
Conference standards right now. You said you're glad they got
the loss. They are currently still the second seed. Sorry,
that's my cat making a lot of no as he
found a bag. Still in the second seed as of
right now, record of forty and twenty two, eight and

(50:25):
two in the last ten games, so that's great. The
Nuggets are right behind them, actually credited. I believe they
beat the Thunder today. Actually I have to double check that,
but it shows them with forty one wins, so they
should be second in the West. I don't know if
that's a tiebreaker thing or not. Nuggets only six and
four in their last ten games. But behind them the
Memphis Grizzlies at forty and twenty four. So you have

(50:46):
three teams, two teams with forty wins. That's you and
the Grizzlies, and then the Nuggets with forty one right
behind them. You have the Rockets of thirty nine, so succeeding.

Speaker 2 (50:57):
You're gonna be a tight one to the van.

Speaker 1 (51:00):
And you have oka see Thunder fifty three and eleven.
They are thirteen games up. No one's going to catch them.
They're playing fantastic ball. Yes, of course, you have the
Warriors team that's surging nine and one in their last
ten games, now thirty sixth and twenty eighth. So you
have the basically seeds two, three, four, five, and six

(51:25):
even seven with the Timberwolves that are thirty seven and
twenty nine right there, and then don't don't count the
Clippers out there. Finally find something.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
So no, don't count the Clippers.

Speaker 1 (51:35):
That one team you won't count as my sons. And
I'm like, every week I get on here and watch
them fall in the standings. They're now eleven, thirty and
thirty four.

Speaker 2 (51:46):
I just just got to push for the plan.

Speaker 1 (51:49):
Yeah, let's get into playing so we can have a
disappointing finish out of there. I'm not even going to complain.
I just we had a saying, never know, you never know,
you ever hear that say, they say it's all over. Yeah,
I'm throwing in the white towel. That's all I can say. Well,

(52:09):
look less least topic of the night and bring it
up and thank you for texting me and reminding me
about it. Was Lebron James and Stephen A Smith, you
know sports starting. Everybody knows Smith, Uh exchanged a few words. Well,
I won't say they exchange words. It was more of
Lebron James, you know, step into Stephen A Smith. And

(52:32):
we know Stephen A Smith. You hear him. He is
He's got a big mouth and he is not afraid
to use it, and I respect it. I like to
hear journalists, you know, give their point, but sometimes you
put your footing. Now and Lebron James step to him
this week. So I'm gonna play this, uh for the
fans so we can hear exactly what was going on,
and then we'll talk about and see what's Lebron James

(52:55):
out of Line's Stephen A Smith, you know, correct and
seeing what's going on. So let's hear what Stephen Ah
had to say.

Speaker 5 (53:02):
Let me just put to bed a couple of things
that have been reported that are false. People were talking
about Lebron called me out my name or somebody else
saw somebody said he called me a bitch. Somebody said
he called me a punk, and all this, None of
that is true.

Speaker 2 (53:20):
He was fiery.

Speaker 5 (53:23):
He approached me during the game and he said, stop
effing with my son.

Speaker 2 (53:31):
That's my fing son. Stop effing with my son.

Speaker 5 (53:35):
I said, but nah, nah, nah man, straight up, man,
the man, real talk, stop effing with my son. And
I saw how furious he was, and I said, we
can talk about it.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
Nah that stop effing with my son. That's my son.
That's my son.

Speaker 1 (53:57):
I said, all right, though, fine, how can somebody so
beautiful be so sad? Okay, Lebron James obviously talking about
his son Bronni in his worst to Stephen A. Smith,
that's my son, that's my son. Stop effing with my son.
I'll give my quick thoughts on this. Lebron James is

(54:21):
the second best player of all time. That's without a doubt.
That's my opinion. I still believe he is behind Michael Jordan.
Lebron James was the beneficiary of nepotism. We know why
his son, Bronni is on your team, the Lakers. It's
because of him and Bronni James, who is a fantastic

(54:42):
player in the G League, is not a very good
NBA player. And I don't think that a professional athlete
making eight million dollars a year should be shielded from
the kind of criticism that he gets. Yes, and so look,
I don't have kids. I can understand that Lebron James

(55:04):
is fiery and you know, not feeling good about you know,
what people are saying about his son and his son's
overall performance. But let's call a spade a spade. Bronnie
James is underperforming and there are better basketball players more

(55:24):
deserving of that spot. Yes, and I'm not huge on
good for Stephen A for addressing it, you know, like
we weren't there. We can only take his word and
saying that's what it was. Lebron James hasn't come out,
But Bronnie James is currently averaging and eighteen games played,

(55:45):
four point two minutes, one point four points, zero point
four rebounds, and zero point four assists. Those are the numbers.
So again, Lebron James, being as fiery and furious as
he was, this is the same Lebron Ramon James who

(56:09):
tweeted Brownie James is better. Brownie's better than half of
these bums we're seen in the NBA right now. That
was a tweet he wrote in twenty twenty three, like
with the laughing emojis and all of this. Right, So
he's disrespecting, you know, professional athletes in his profession, in
his game. And he's not to think that he's put
a target on his son's back for doing that.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
Mh.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
Like maybe he was drinking too much of that Lebron
Hennessy or at one of his wines when you know,
wineries when he said that. But I don't think you
can have it both ways. And in fact, there was
a tweet he pulled it up here where someone they
put it just perfectly, and when I read it, I
thought that is spot on. So let me pull this

(56:55):
tweet up. It says lebron cannot have it both ways.
You can make moves to get your kid in the NBA,
you can get him on the team, but criticism is
what you and Bronnie signed up for when he got here.
He's not immune from saying he's trashed just because he's

(57:16):
your son. I get nepotism, but let's reel it back
a bit, so thank you Normany for that tweet. I
thought that that was spot on. And again it's like
pick your poison, man, Like you're great. You made history
with your son, first father son du All to play
in the NBA. You knew your son wasn't ready. Let's

(57:41):
take away the cardiac arrest that happened at USC if
you knew he wasn't ready. You've been in the NBA
more than half of your life. Yeah, So I just
I mean again, like I said, I like Lebron. I
have a lot of respect for what he's done and
what he's brought to the game. He's been the face

(58:02):
of the league for.

Speaker 2 (58:04):
Decades.

Speaker 1 (58:05):
You fifteen, Yeah, you could you say twenty years. But
I just again, Lebron not get off like that's that's
not good. The only thing that he did worse than
this was the second Space Jam movie.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (58:25):
I don't know as a Lakers fan, what's what's your
what are your thoughts? What your dad was? Was he
right to front Stephen A Smith? Was he was he?
Is he right to stand on this.

Speaker 2 (58:37):
As a player? Is she and an athlete? I don't
think he should be talking that way to steven A.
Schmidt Stephen Smith made made some good points about Bronnie,
and yes, we all know that Bronnie doesn't belonging there.
Like you said, there's there's better guys the supposed to
be there. I bet youy much. There's a guy in
the European League or in the other leagues that should

(59:01):
be in there. But I think Brownie was more of
a father. I mean, I mean Lebron was more of
a father at that point instead of an athlete. Because
I remember one time, I think his mom mentioned about
stop picking on my on my son. He's young and
this and dad and and and he told the mom, mom, chill,
I got this. Why can't Brownie do the same thing

(59:22):
as his dad? So, Dad, this is this is what
I signed up for. You know, I got to think
it as a man. And for steven A. Smith, he
was just doing his job. That's his job, that what
he does for for all sports that he commentates, that's
that's what he do. And for Lebron being that way,

(59:43):
I think he just got our way out of line.
I don't think he should be saying that to steven A.
Fann as a player, you should be telling your son
a son gonna be there. They're gonna be criticism, you know,
a lot of criticism because you're my son. Just keep
your head off and keep on going. And that's a

(01:00:04):
that's a father part of me talking. But you better
get your stuff together, man, we're making a playoff front.
Get your stuff together. We need you at the end
of the Yeah, we we drafted you second round.

Speaker 1 (01:00:17):
You know, yeah, you don't injuries come through and you know,
you know, you hope health for your whole team going through.
But like, let's just say with Lebron James h forty
plus and Luca in his prime, a lot of pressure
on those guys. But let's just say guys start to
come out. You know, let's just say you need Lebron

(01:00:38):
James junior services. And he's the reason why there's a deficiency.
They're picking on him on defense on the you know,
on defense, and you're in a tight series with the
Nuggets or with the Clippers or somebody, you know what
I mean. And that comes back to like you, you know,

(01:00:59):
you could play who comes out of the East well,
and you can't get pat out of the West because
you have this deficiency. And I just think, like, Okay,
JJ you're you're the coach. You wanted this job? Are you?
Are you the podcast host with Lebron James? Are you
the head coach? Coach left the men against the Sixers,
and he was getting cooked. You know, it was clear

(01:01:21):
as clear as day that they were. They were pointing
him out.

Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
And then I don't think Brownie is on that level yet.

Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
Now, and he's a great G League player. They say
he finally caught a body and put somebody on a poster,
put up thirty points, like great, But again, if you,
Lebron James, are you doing a disservice by not being
real with him, not getting him mentally prepared? Yes, for
the big This is the grown man's leaders a professional league.
So I don't know. I mean, we'll see what happens.

(01:01:50):
He's gonna do whatever he wants. Again, these guys are billionaires,
you know what I mean. It's it's they're set for life,
for life, yeah, life light. Okay, So I'm not crying
any tears for him because I mean, I read the stats.
It ain't looking good. Bro. I'm pretty sure we can
go out there and get point four assists? Are you
kidding me? Get one rebound?

Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
You can definitely.

Speaker 6 (01:02:13):
I could definitely get him assists one for seven to
three pointer, one for sixteen from the field, Like, my goodness, Like,
what does Lebron James want to do it?

Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
Yeah? He makes it like he's a good player.

Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
He's not. Yeah, he's a player. He's not a good player.
He is a player. He's on the team. He was
in the photographs. He's got a uniform.

Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
He's in the team because of Dad.

Speaker 5 (01:02:37):
Yeah, I wanted to gall kick me.

Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
