What's up?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Everybody?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Welcome back to another amazing episode of the Being Out
in Sports talk Show. I and Brother Noy and always
with me is brother Matthew Parker. How you doing, Matt.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm good man. How are you feeling today?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Very good? Lots to talk about.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Oh, we got a lot to talk about. And I
just want to say congratulations. This is our thirtieth episode
the Big Three. Ohs oh yeah, thirty episodes deep in
this thing already. So I mean, like I said, I
couldn't do this without you. So I'm grateful. You know,
so a Sunday and I'm pulling you away from your
family so that we can jump on here and and

(01:05):
form the world about some sports. Well. Look, I want
to give a shout out to my father in law
who completed his second ten k he ran it in
Helo this morning, and co all the marathoners, half marathoners,
ten K, five k, the people that are just out
there volunteers. I'm actually going to we registered for the race.

(01:25):
We weren't able to actually be there, but we can
do our race virtually. So Valerie is going to do
a ten k and I'm going to do another half
marathon because I want my third medal and the medals
are beautiful. I saw the medals.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
He can do it all virtually, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah. So I will be doing my half marathon. This
will be my third straight year doing one. So again, gratulations,
shout out to my father in law and I'm stoked
for everybody, and then you know, congrats. A little bit
more local news, theo Helo Vikings by Queens should Say
have a flag football team for the women and they

(02:03):
are taking off. I was launching out some of the
videos on the Instagram page Big Island Sports Talk Show
follow us on Instagram, Twitter, et cetera. Uh, and it
was it's cool to see that flag football debuting and
he had for the women.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
So yeah, there's more more schools getting involved into this
flag football and that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Anyway. The kids stay active if they're if you're out
there in a team oriented sport and having a good time,
they're not just on the streets being knuckleheads, you know
what I mean. So I'm glad there's money allocated for that,
and you know, we've got to shout out, you know,
all the locals and it's a Big Island Sports talk
show we're going to give them some love. So just
a couple of updates. I did get some really really
nice feedback from some listeners. I didn't even think whatever

(02:45):
be listening to this show. So shout out to everybody.
If this is your first podcast, Big Island sports talk
show you listened to, or if you've been with us
every every step of the way, I just want to say,
thank you so much. We do this because we're passionate
about it and we genuinely enjoy talk in sports, but
it does make it very rewarding knowing that people get
something out of this. Uh So, so thank you guys

(03:07):
so much.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
I will not have that weaseling in my house than
you guys.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, I mean, without further ado, let's get started. You
mentioned we got a lot to talk about. Let's start
in the NBA. Man I, I look, it's coming down
to it all right. A lot of people are only
tuning into the NBA around this time, Okay, when seating
is set in playoff basketball starts. Uh and I'm saying
it's it's been a very entertaining season. We got a
couple of MVP candidates coming down to it. To no surprise,

(03:35):
you got the Joker on Nicola Jokic for the Denver Nuggets.
Who is in contention again? Who is actually averaging more
points and assists than a couple of previous Yeah, previous MVPs.
But what most people are saying their favorite is Shay
Gildris Alexander, and he is just fun to watch. Man, Okay,
see Thunderguard. He's fantastic.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
He's he's good. He's really really good. That's what why
they are number one in the West. Oh man, he's
he's so good. I wouldn't be surprised if he does
have the m VP. But like you said, Joker, he's
always putting up and it's I see, it's gonna be
a better season for him than any other m VP
campaigns that he was on. So anyone if could have him,

(04:19):
you know, is what I'm thinking. And if they ain't
gonna be a wrong pick.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah, well what do you think it does voter fatigue exist?
Because obviously we saw that to some extent in the
NFL with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Obviously this is
a different sport. But yes, but it is this gonna
be Shay Gilgris Alexander, because I mean, you mentioned it.
They do have the number one seed by a handful

(04:46):
of games. So some some voters they look at their
record overall record. Some voters look at head to heads
and the analytics the numbers behind it. But let's just say, brother, no,
you got to vote. What makes an m v P
for you?

Speaker 1 (05:03):
How he for his team? Is he?

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Like if if we take him out of that team,
would it be different? Wouldn't be them? Are they going
to be the last place? Because with all them and
and the way that they he uses his team to
his advantage, like setting up his teammates more.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
You know, the the all around kind of guy. That's
what I'm I'm looking at.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
I like the balls on this guy.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Okay, I got you right there, and that's that's good.
I mean, so you can argue for you know, both guys.
What what would be the Nuggets be without the Joker?
And what would okay see be without shake just Alexander?

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Or if you put Joker with Okac, put Alexander in Denver,
which team would be number one? And which team would
be leading in the West.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Look, if we're lucky at sports fans, we'll get to
see them match up in Yah, you know, the Western
conference playoffs. We will see, you know, hopefully coming down
the stretch, who is going to prevail in that. And
I understand that this is a regular season award, so
you know, you're looking at the numbers. It's amazing what
Joker is doing. Honestly, I mean, he really is putting

(06:19):
his name up to be one of the best centers
of all time. And honestly, I mean the game has changed, right.
We talked about it that three balls killing the game.
There is essentially no mid range. But you do have
guys like Shay Gildris Alexander who had taken advantage of it.
He is an assassin and the knock on him is,
you know, the same thing they said about James Harden

(06:40):
and his twenty seventeen I think his twenty seventeen MVP campaign,
which is that he's a free throw merchant. Every refereeing
crew is different. I think if you're skilled enough to
draw the fouls and you get your points at the line,
you know, I don't see any knock in and everything's

(07:01):
not analytics and number stripping anyway may not be the
most exciting, but on the other end, yeah, he's.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
He's getting the points no matter if he's shooting it
or getting in from the row.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, and he's really exciting to watch. I mean, honestly,
he hangs his mid range game, he's slashing, he's getting
his guys involved as well. So it's it's tough and
Jokic has had to do a little bit more with
the absence of who's that with the ankle out. I
can't think it's not Michael Porter, who's the other brother

(07:33):
with the dreads always get into it with Gordon, that's right, Aaron.
Gordon's out now for some time right here, and they
are a different team not having their high flyer because
you know he works that baseline. He does a really
good job. Yes, and you know he's coming up to
dunk on somebody at least once a game. So uh,

(07:54):
I mean, this is an interesting time. I'm very interested
interested to see how the Western Conference is playing out,
and I'm really grateful for it. And you mentioned earlier
Thunder had the number one seed, fifty five wins, twelve losses,
and nine and one in their last ten games, so
they are there widening the gap up from the last time.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Ready the playoff run.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Oh absolutely, it sounds like they're they're beating up on
everybody that comes across them, and then looking at it.
Next we have the Houston Rockets, who jumped up. I
think they were the fifth seed last time we talked,
just last week. Now they're the second seed at a
record of forty three and twenty five and seven and
three in their last ten games. So Rockets, young spunky

(08:37):
team coming out of nowhere. That's em A Doka's team. Defensive,
you know, driddn you know he's really really gelling on
those guys. And we say defense weist championships. But yeah,
young fresh legs, will see how they how they fare.
Then coming to the third seeds, those Denver Nuggets we
talked about, same record, forty three and twenty five, twelve
and a half games behind, but five and five in

(08:59):
their last ten games. Memphis Grizzlies same record right after them,
also five and five in their last ten games. And
then we have the La Lakers all the way down,
all the way down to from the second seed last
week giving them praise, and now they're down to the
fifth seed, six and four in their last ten games.

(09:21):
And so then I mentioned that in the last ten games.
I think it's important because how you come how you
in the regular season and how you come into the playoffs.
It does matter, right when you're trending up. So of course,
obviously the Lakers have a huge excuse. They're missing their captain,
their leader, and Lebron James who's out with an apparent
groin injury, and that plays a big part. So as

(09:45):
a Lakers, as a Lakers fan, what are you thinking?
What do you see for your team?

Speaker 3 (09:48):
We can't get any worse than slide even more Dom, you.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Better get your stuff together back and we making a
playoff front.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
I don't know said Ron's not there. He is a
big contributory. I wish we could hold a second seed
by we need our star player.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
We're just sliding and sliding. I hope we can.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Oh, I don't talk to the next time we're talking
about the Lakers on a plane.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
We can't win.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Well, I don't know. I don't know if it's going
to be that bad, but I'm looking at it, and.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Man, the way I see it.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
That's really tight. Bro. Listen to this Laker is sitting
at forty one and twenty five. The Warriors are right
behind him at thirty nine and twenty eight. Nine to
one in their last ten games. So the Warriors are
sitting in the sixth seed. Right behind them, you have
the t Walls forty and twenty nine, and then the
Clippers at thirty eight and thirty. So you very well

(10:50):
could slide from the fifth seed down to the eighth seed.
I don't think. I don't think there's enough games for
the Kings and the Mavericks to catch him. With thirty
three wins apiece, you could slide down to that eight
seed and be looking at the OKC Thunder in the playoffs. Yeah,
because I mean, depending I guess who how to play
in and that situation goes. Honestly, I'm not I'm really not. Like,

(11:13):
to me, it doesn't matter. One through eight is really
all that matters to me. There. Of course, you can
pull Eli Manning and go through as a playing team
and wildcard team how you want to look at it,
But yeah, I don't. I don't foresee that happening, as
the skill level does drop off. So if I'm looking
at the top Thunder, Rockets, Nuggets, Grizzlies, Lakers, Warriors, Tea, Wolves,

(11:35):
and Clippers. Yeah the West, Don't get me wrong.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
That's a young team there and.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
They play your Lakers really well. Now the Lakers have
gotten the best in the last last two games. But
you're right, Kawhi Leonard is rested up. You've got James
Harden who's deadly. No, he's all time, second all time
and three partners made right, and then you got Tyron
lu who is a fantastic coaches and yeah, I don't

(12:03):
know if I told you. I bumped it to him
when I was in Denver and I was like, you know,
I don't get shocked at all, but you know, it
was like, came around the corner and there was Terroran
lou and I was like, I literally said out loud,
that's Tyran Luke right to Valerie sitting next to me.
Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
I was like, wait a minute, I know you.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
And then he gave me a fifth bunce. So I
felt cool about that. And then he and then what happened.
It was weird because he like he fell over right
and then so like I thought, like my instincts kicked
in and I just did the Allen Iverson stepped right
over him, just stepped right now.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
I wanted to.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
I like the balls on this guy.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
I'm just kidding, man, that never happened that, Like, okay,
I did meet him, but he didn't fall and I
didn't step over. But that's just what I thought about
him in my head, which was, you know, if he
did it just so happen to stumble, I would be like,
oh yo, let me step over him real quick and
then help him up. You know, he's a great guy.
Valerie will tell you. I was. I was like, you know,

(13:13):
star stuck. He was walking around and then you know,
you see the Clippers coming behind. That was when Russell
Westbrook was still that team. That's the one I was
looking for. I never got to see him as a
year ago, two years ago something like that. I don't know,
but it happened all right. So but yeah, just just
wanted to tell that story. You never know who you're
going to run into when you're on vacation. So that

(13:34):
was pretty cool. Thanks boy, thank you. Well, look, we
know these things are coming down to it, Like, I'm
just stoked. I know you're stoked. You got a team
that's in contention. As long as you make the playoffs,
you do have a chance. So all we can do
is tune in and watch the games you do have.
You know, Austin Reeves is back right. Yeah, you know,

(13:59):
he's kind of falling out of his slump. He has
hasn't been playing particularly well. But him and Dalton Connect
went went off. I think it was against the the Knicks. No,
let's see, they they lost. Let's see, I'm looking at it.
Austin Reeves had thirty seven points, eight rebounds, and thirteen
cents on fifty percent shooting, and then Dalton Connect had

(14:22):
thirty two points, two rebounds and assists. They did all
they could, but they still lost that game without Lebron
and without Luca present. So uh, it's nice to know
that you do have, you know, shooters three, four and
five that can give you thirty. But man, but what
they really needed is Brownie coming off that bench. Man,
if he had just oh lord, he could just average.

(14:47):
I don't give me three points. Maybe it made a
difference there.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
I just got my head.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
I think this was against the I think this was
against the Knicks. They played, but man, it's just crazy.
But I mean, look, staying in the NBA, I just
want to give some love to.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
The Warrior Warriors.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Maybe the Warriors they are making that was a good trade.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Jay, if you're listening. That was a good trade turned
around your season, I think.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
And that was again, that was with the acquisition of
Jimmy Butler, Jimmy Buckets right from the Miami Heat. Yeah,
since that trade, the Warriors are fourteen and one. I'm
being amazing.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
So r J, he can't tell me that wasn't a
good trade.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Is RJ saying that it's not a good trade?

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Was he saying Las Vegans? And I didn't say it
was a bad He didn't say. He didn't say it
was a bad trade. But I was like, he wasn't
too happy about it because they lost Wigans and they
lost another player.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
I think it was he's seen. I think it was
a little bit too much. But with Jimmy Buckets, Curry,
oh you got a good.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
I think I think he kind of helped solidify kind
of what they were missing, right because think about it,
in those old Warriors teams, Klay Thompson could sit down
in a chair and defend right and we knew he
could do that. And once they moved on from him
and he went to the Mavericks, you were missing someone
on the defensive side. Yeah, yeah, you can missing the
Robin to Draymond Green's batman, right, and you got that

(16:21):
with Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler is he himself will say
he's a defensive player. And you've got the greatest shooter
of all time handling the offensive end and space around him.
You've got you know, Gary Payton the second over here,
just knocking down three's in the corner. It's you know,
it's and he's It's been fantastic for them. And not
only that, but Steve Kerr who's now become the all

(16:43):
time winning his coach for the Golden State Warriors with
five hundred and fifty eight career wins. Oh Lord achieved
that over a ninety seven to ninety four win over
the New York Knicks just this past week. He's coming
into his own as well, especially by adding Moses Moody
to the lineup. This team is eighteen and one with
him in the lineup. So they are clicking on all
cylinders and at the most opportune time of the season again,

(17:08):
right there behind your Lakers is the sixth seed with
the two games behind, and it's I mean, they are
a scary team. And Draymond Green was on the record
saying he doesn't think they're gonna win. He knows they're
going to win. So if I'm a Warriors fan and
we can get a ring with Steph's last hurrah, Draymond's

(17:29):
last hurrah, with the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, who has
been to the finals twice now he's never gotten done,
but has finals experience. And Jimmy Butler is one of
the few players where his game is elevated. All of
his numbers across the board go up in the playoffs.
So the Warriors would be a dangerous pick. Now if
I lived in Las Vegas, and I do, and I'm

(17:51):
a betting man and I am, I might put a
couple of shekels on the Warriors a long shot to win.
They must be getting plus numbers.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
They got him, they got there must be a dog.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
But if that, if any of the teams, that teams
can be scary, because like you said, there are battle tested,
they are playoff tested. They went deep in the playoffs
and they know what it takes to win a championship.
And I would be surprised that make it pretty far
in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
We'll see. I mean, I honestly, I'm looking at it
and I'm like they're playing winning based basketball. But you
still got to deal with the size that the Duggets have.
You still got to deal with the youth and athleticism
that you know, the Rockets or the OKC thunder Half.
But I think that's what makes it special too, because
you said winning playing winning basketball, you have to be disciplined,

(18:40):
you have to be focused for four quarters. And you've
seen athletic young teams, uh you know, runn into a
bus of a well disciplined and focused team that has
so you know that that's why I really do enjoy basketball.
And you know, on the other end, college hoops were
coming up on March madness, you know what I mean,
everybody got a bracket coming up. In fact, Valerie's job

(19:03):
has got a whole thing, and she texted me like, hey,
can you help me with my bracket now? And to
be honest, I'm not a huge college basketball guy. I
really am not like I feel like I'm gonna help
Valerie with hers. I'm not a like I gotta do
a bunch of brackets and and follow along. I just
really don't watch college hoops like that. I have been
trying to just brush up on it this past week

(19:25):
and you know, of course you're gonna have the blue bloods,
You're gonna have the dukes in there. I think Auburn
locked up the first seed. I think over Duke and
a certain bracket. Everybody's upset because North Carolina got in
and they're one and twelve against teams and in the
first conference. But that's the thing about the tournament, the
Big Dance. It's one and done, right, So you know, yeah,

(19:50):
so anything can happen. These college kids. You get reminded.
We watch NBA all the time and you see grown
men and you turn on some college basketball and you're like, oh,
these kids is eight nineteen twenty years old, right, and
you kind of you see those eyes get big when
the lights get bright, and you see who shuns away
from it. So all I know is that in one bracket,
if I fill one out, I'm gonna have a twelve

(20:12):
seed upsetting a five seed. It happens every year.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
It's happened.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
So I don't know you got you got any brackets?
You're feeling out? Are you doing anything for Mark?

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Not just yet?

Speaker 2 (20:26):
That means that means the money hasn't come down.

Speaker 6 (20:29):
That means you haven't had an offer yet show me
you're not just doing it for fun. You're like, no, no, no, no,
nobody's come to me. A ten dollars entry here, A
twenty dollars went over here.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
I got it. I figured it out. I knew exactly
how you said it. I was like, I know, I know,
my co host, that's fine, that's fine.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
It makes that much funner.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
You know, I get it. I get it. It does
because again, we don't watch it. We're not just like,
oh man, it's a Tuesday night. Let me see Louisiana
Tech versus blah blah blah. You know what I mean, Lafayette,
I don't know. Anyway, Moving away from basketball here, we
got to talk of football because there has been a
lot of moves going on. We'll start with your team,

(21:16):
A huge one that we kind of brushed on last time,
which is Cooper Cup was informed that he was going
to be released by the l A Rams and he
found a new home in the Pacific Northwest and in
the same division. He is now a Seattle Seahawks for
the next two years. What are your thoughts on this?
Did you see that coming? I gotta know, Oh.

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Man, I knew he was gonna sign with somebody. I'm
not surprised you signed with Seahawks. They do need a
receiver or just sj I n over there. You need
somebody for comming in him, like like called DK was there,
and it's even better now with Cup is he's going
to take all those on the neat routes and give

(21:59):
a lot room to Yes saying in the backside, on
the back end of the defense. So I'm hurt because
we got him twice every year and once he's coming
back to so far. So but I'm glad for him though.
I'm glad for him. He went home, that's where he
usually was from. He's from Washington State, so at least

(22:24):
he's home with his family and friends, and I'm happy
for him. Good luck because there's that. I think they're
signed Donald for a one year dear just today.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Three year dear actually three years dollars. Yeah, so they
got Sam Donald. He'll be seeing ghosts in the Pacific Northwest.
So well, let's let's hope he's seeing Let's hope he'll
be seeing his wide receivers too. You did mention Jackson
Smith Jigba, and of course you got Cooper Cup there.
They did get Rid of Tyler Lockett as well, but

(23:00):
they picked up somebody else. I'll have to take a
look to see it my notes here, But going back
to Cooper Cup, his tenure in LA was fantastic. I mean,
you're talking six hundred and thirty four receptions, seven hundred
excuse me, seven, seven hundred and seventy six yards. Couldn't
get one more yard that'd be nice to see. Sevens
all the way across the board. But fifty seven touchdowns,

(23:21):
Super Bowl MVP Offensive Player of the Year in twenty
twenty one, as you mentioned last week with his triple
crown most yards by a wide receiver in a single
season nineteen one hundred and sixty five and most catches
by a wide receiver in a single season postseason with
thirty three. So if he's got anything left in the tank,
you'll know about it. I have no doubt he is

(23:42):
going to save a little something for when he comes
back and plays the Rams.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Oh yeah, mucking it down on his islander.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Yeah, so so good job. I mean, he got credit,
all credit to him. Fantastic player, excellent route runner, and
again it just goes to show you guys who work
on their craft. It doesn't matter how you did at
the combine, you could always get better, right, Yes, So
good job for him now, I mean, I know you
mentioned last week too you were excited about your team. Uh.

(24:11):
Who think he's ready number one?

Speaker 1 (24:14):
He was ready for to take the leads.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Row.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
I think because he's rookie, he took off the year
before that. I think he got hurt in the beginning
of the season.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
No.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Yeah, this year, he got hurt in the beginning season.
That kind of messed him up. But I'm expecting him
to get in a clearly good number number one receiver
with with with Davante Adams being.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
There, m hm, he's gonna be no double.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
Teams for him or vice versa with wait with Adam,
So I'm I'm pretty sure he's.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
Gonna be eating a lot this year this upcoming.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Year, well, let's hope. So even the down year, Puka
Nakua seventy nine receptions, nine and ninety yards, three touchdowns,
but averaged you know, twelve point five yards a catch,
So touchdowns were down, it's average slightly down, yards down
and receptions down, but still for not having a complete season,

(25:17):
those are pretty solid numbers. And you're right with the
addition of Devonte, He's definitely going to be getting some
favorable matchups and hopefully he can stay healthy. So I'm
hoping for you know, switching over to my Broncos, who
have been getting busy this off season, said goodbye. I
have to drop a couple of tears because we traded

(25:38):
away Zach Wilson. Zach Wilson, man, I don't even think
he ever put his helmet on the whole season long. Man,
even when I went to the Broncos Raiders game, he
didn't have that helmet on at all because bow Nicks was,

(26:00):
you know, never going to give up his spot on
the field. But Zach Wilson was traded to the Dolphins,
so it's it's funny. Now he'll get to be a
backup back in the AFC East. And all I can
say is good rentance buys that.

Speaker 4 (26:13):
You better get your stuff together.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
But we did also get rid of Javonte Williams, who
I thought had a lot of promise. I just feel
like he wasn't getting the opportunity. The Broncos traded him
to the Cowboys. So Cowboys did they address their their
options at running back? I mean, when you miss on
a guy like Derrick Henry last year. What can you say,

(26:38):
a couple of couple of huge pickups. It's like a
pipeline from from the forty nine Ers coming over to
the Mile High City with linebacker Dre Greenlaw three years,
thirty five million. Now Dre Greenlaw's fantastic linebacker. I don't
put him up there with Patrick Willis and but he
was a solid, solid linebacker for many years for the

(27:02):
forty nine Ers. The most recent news, of course, a
big thing came from him was him tearing his achilles
right running off the sideline in the Super Bowl. And
since then production has been been down, and he of
course was due for a big contract that John Lynch
was just not willing to give. Right. So now over

(27:23):
here with the Broncos and bringing over his hard hitting
safety Tola Noah who fung there that three years, forty
five mil. Now he is, He's Troy Palamalo Jr. And
you know, a missile come down. You know we love
a hard hitting safety. Yes, but he also did get
trucked by Patrick Mahomes. Let's not forget that, you know

(27:45):
what I mean? Patrick, Patrick Mahomes came downhill with the
Dad Bod and and oh lord, so it just goes
to show you your kids out there still playing. Make
sure to keep your feet moving through a tackle or
you get run you get a run over. Another acquisition
with Evan Ingram on a two year deal, he was

(28:06):
we addressed that need at tight end. I feel like
the Broncos front office did a great job addressing needs
in the upping draft. Yeah, they can get the best
player available. Obviously, I don't like to see them go
running back. Maybe Janti Boise running back, or we talked
about Moron Hampton. Would love to see some young, fresh

(28:27):
legs in there. But I mean, I'm feeling I'm feeling
good about it. The problem is not the front office.
It's not the players. For me, again, it's Sean Payton. Sean,
get off my team, you know, get off my team.
I saw I saw a list and they had top

(28:47):
ten coaches for this past season and they had Sean
Payton on there at number seven. And I'm just like, poopy,
what stching your head? You see? You ever seeing calling
for the Super Nintendo? I don't know.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
I think you're That defense that you got there just
came a little bit more scary if those two guys
can be healthy and produce the way that they did
in San Francisco. It's gonna be it's gonna be hard, man,
it's gonna be very hard to move that ball in Denver.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
I mean, we hope, so I'm not again, I'm not
getting my hopes up. When we get closer, we'll do
our breakdown games and see what we think our team's
gonna go. You know, I had them at nine to seven,
missing the playoffs. Last year. They went, uh, you know,
ten and six and barely made the playoffs. You know,
got molly wapped by the Bills. No big deal there,
but we'll get to that kind of down the line.

(29:46):
A couple of other moves in the off season. We
had Josh Sweat that what a sack sack and a
half of the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl is
now with the Arizona Cardinals on a four year deal
seventy six million. Show him the money. Uh yeah. We
mentioned Sam Darnold heading out there, but you you called
this one. Najee Harris. We were talking about him for

(30:08):
the Pittsburgh Steelers thousand yard back every year that he
was there. Coming out of Baba uh is on a
one year deal with the Chargers. So you got the
Chargers in the a f C West stepping up there. Obviously,
we know the Raiders were making some moves. Re signed
Max Crosby Raiders, you know, to an extension for the
time being, made him with the highest uh non quarterback

(30:31):
in the NFL. But we'll see, we'll see that deal
won't or that won't stand for long. But uh yeah,
we'll see what the Raiders are gonna do. I think
now with Gino Smith and now you've got Pete Carroll
and uh Chip Kelly's offensive coordinator. We'll we'll see AFC
West is gonna AFC West is gonna be fun this year.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
So it's gonna be But.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
Then going back to the Niners real quick, because you
know another coach that I just loved so much is
Kyle Shanahan. Kyle Kyle can't get it done in the postseason. Shanahan.
They made an interesting move and they picked up they
picked up Mac Jones, who Mac Jones Jones.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
Mc Jones, I like the balls on this guy.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
On a two year deal seven million dollars. That's what's
interesting about this is obviously they had a lot of
departures right. They did briefly release their star full back
Kyle Yustcheck, but they resigned him I think for team
morale reasons. And but they're making all these moves and
what I can only assume is the hay party kind

(31:41):
of move. So I mentioned last week, I was like,
I like, I like brock perty but when he doesn't
have all star caliber people around him, he did he
did fall off a little bit. I mean, the Niners
were expected to be huge postseason contender last year and
they didn't even make the playoffs. You got to look
the quarter and now it's not all the quarterback party

(32:02):
had pretty decent numbers. You did have a lot of injuries.
You had to hold out. You know, you star left
tackle Trent Williams wants more money once this deal redone,
So you had all that you're dealing with. You know,
Brandon Ayuk's injury didn't help the situation. But yeah, I mean,
if I'm looking at the Niners, I think their window closed. Man.
I mean, am I crazy to say.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
That it's closing.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
They got a bunch of some vets. You got a
lot of vets up there. It's getting real, real close
off closing. Because I heard talks of treating Brandon.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
I you are they gonna stop letting go people?

Speaker 3 (32:41):
Nope, Like every weekend it's someone new, you know. And
I'm guessed they're going to go to the draft. I
think they got like twelve picks in the draft.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
I think was Yeah, they did get some compensatory picks.
So that's the GM doing his job, and you can
you can rebuild your team and cheaply, right if if
you're going through the draft. Forty nine ers have a
rich history. But I don't know. I mean again, I'm
not crying any crocodile tears for them if they're not
doing well. Again, I think I think Shanahan's in over

(33:14):
his head.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
But it definitely can be done. We did that the
time we went all in. Sarley Capp is all messed up.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
You're paying a lot of a lot of vets like
Donald and Cup and Stafford, give them a lot of
big money, and we never had nobody to sign, so
we just went through the draft and draft the best
available player in verse and we traded up for Fist.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
We had two other young.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
Thugs and Turner and young there was there and they
did pretty good on that. When Aaron Donalds last year,
so that front four is good.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
Draft.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
Couple of young linebackers were cheap and uh and I
have a couple of resigned on Williams and Witherspoon as
our corners, so it can be done. We got drafted
young receivers is in Pukah. Karen Williams is the running back.
We drafted all young and it was all in the
fifth round. So you get there is gold beyond first

(34:16):
and second and third Ford round. And it can be
done if you have that much of picks and you
have the first pick too. You can't even trout trade
donald and grative you more picks if you wanted to
go that route.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
But there it's possible.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
It's very possible where you can find talent in the draft.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
And I'm guessing that's today.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
The forty nine is gonna approach this draft without signing all.
They didn't sign a lot of players. They actually they
let them walked out, and I'm guess they're gonna reveal
true true the draft.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
Well, I mean, I know that's a team that's in
your division, so you you really don't care, you you
could actually stand and see them down a couple of years.
I mean we saw the Seahawks rebuilding in the off season.
Here they're gonna look totally different. Yeah, and you know
it's like, aside from the Josh Sweat move, I don't
know what the Cardinals are doing. They're just kind of
sitting on their hands. So yeah, we will see. You know,

(35:13):
maybe maybe they're okay with fourth place in the division.
You know, there's no pressure when you're expected to be
at the bottom and you work your way up. But
but again, we have we have these expectations. Look look
at this.

Speaker 7 (35:24):
Yeah, yeah, they got good players.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Connor didn't getting any any younger.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
So I like him. He runs hard. I like James.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
Yeah, I dropped him two years in a row.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Kind of a down year last year, but but the
year before he's he's solid. You know, he's good for
he's good for a TD.

Speaker 6 (35:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
No, well let's say, well, look, let's let's take a
commercial break, and when we come back, we have an update.
Miles Garrett, who of course signed for that huge money
in Cleveland. He's got some words for saying that it
wasn't all about the money. So brother lawl Matt Parker

Speaker 4 (36:45):

Speaker 2 (36:47):
Take my word from it. Listen to these testimonials. Oh yeah,
I took my brother in law to pet Conda and
it did not disappoint. It was pure chaos. We had
a blast, roll tied. My sister in law was skeptical,
but we went to petcand She just always wanted to
write a giraffe and it was a blast that I
wanted to. Pet kind of prides itself on allowing the

now Petkan forever ritors. All right, well, welcome back Big
on a sports talk show Matt Parker brother Noel here
celebrating episode number thirty. Whoa, I'm a bet here Now
on the other side of the break, I mentioned Miles

(37:53):
Garrett saying that it wasn't about the money. I thought
I had the video queued up. I do not have
that video, so my apologies sports fans, but I'll just
sell it up for you quick. He's lying. You want
to say it's not about the money. It's always about

(38:15):
the money, Okay. He said he wanted to stay clean Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah, and all of a sudden he thinks there's a contender.
Come on, man, My.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Thing is just be real, right, just be real, be
real with yourself, be real with the people. You know, like,
nobody's gonna fall to you for getting the money.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
By all me money, bro, Like you said, the NFL
is not long enough. You know you ain't gonna lie
that long, so why not get the money?

Speaker 2 (38:48):
So so that's that's it. What's that song saying? Why
you always lie. He's over here, detroit lyon over here. Well,
you know what, you know, who else has been in
the news and who's been talking a lot is Stephen A.

(39:12):
Smith Man. So last time we talked last week, he
had a confrontation where Lebron James came up there and
was telling them that's my son and all of this
and all that. But he has just been talking. He's
been talking about it NonStop. He just can't give it up.
But let's hear Stephen A. Smith talking about what his
thoughts were. Lebron coming up now that he's on the

(39:35):
Gilbert Arena show. So let's let's hear this. Thank Lebron
in front of you. In the aftermath of that situation,
I thought it was weak. I thought it was some bullshit.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Well, but.

Speaker 5 (39:50):
In the moment, I knew that I was listening to
a father. Here's what happened. I'm represented by Way Morrison
dev the founder of William Morrison devor Arie Emmanuel had
courtside seats right next to the Lakers bench.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
He had Larry David.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
With him, Starbuck Kirby enthusiastic, and I'm sitting with them.
I get there in the first quarter I'm sitting I'm
sitting port side, and I stand up and then I
got my head turned and then I turned back around,
and a lot of people thought this was the end
of the game or something like that.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
This was in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
Even gets to the point. Listen, The point is he
called it weak. Yeah, but he didn't call it weak
when Lebron James was right there in front of his face.
Oh no, that's my problem. Now. He had a good
point where he said he was being addressed as from
a father and that was the point you made last week, right,
So I understand him. I wanted to protect his son

(40:56):
and do that. But come on, Stephen Ay, get on
the Gilbert of reading this podcast and talk about it
was weak. He's over here flexing and make it seem
like that's why I was, like, I'm cutting all that
out him. Everything. Well, I was sitting here in the
course side. People think it was this happening, and you know,
I don't like that. You know, my hand was turned.

Speaker 4 (41:19):
It's like I just got my hand done two days ago.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
Stephen A, come on, now the time to say that
when he was there, all he had to say, Lebron,
I'm a journalist, what you want to do. This is
what I'm reporting right here, is what I say right here,
It is what it is. We talked about the numbers
last week, right your boys average zero point four points?
Oh lord, zero point four rebounds?

Speaker 1 (41:42):
Was this the truth? You just speaking the truth. That's
why I didn't. I didn't.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
You should just sticking chess out. And Lebron was confronting him.
Man said, wait, you know a week later and then
that was week Lebron sho oh, Man, that's too funny.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
It keeps us talking. I guess, I mean, and it doesn't.
It doesn't really matter at the end of the day
what we think about the situation. I mean, these two
have a long time history. Like I said, Lebron James
a billionaire. He's got his sons doing work. His other
son Bryce just want to state championship. Right. He was
away from the Lakers who went to go see that,
which people are speculating he didn't even have a grind
injury because he's over there celebrating on the sideline. But

(42:23):
I think when when you're pumped up, you fill the adrenaline.
You see your son about to win the state championship game,
and Sacramento. You know, you might be able to kind of,
you know, forget about that grind injury. But there is
some validity to the injuries because Lebron James seems to
get hurt every March. I made a little bit of
a list right here, So let's take a look twenty
twenty five K this year, he's got the groin and

(42:45):
we saw that happen, and a very egregious flop too.
I don't know if you saw that flop that was
circulating around, like Jason Tatum blew by him and he
just like.

Speaker 1 (42:57):
Chess.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
Yeah it was his chest is It just is a
bad look. And I just think like Lebron James is
a very imposing figure and for him to be flopping
like that.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
Try the old old timers are thinking, like Lembier and
and Barkley and Burn and all this other tough guys
looking at that, like what the hell? You know what
I had? I had a clothesline coming on the lane.
You got an elbow to my face, you know.

Speaker 2 (43:23):
Yeah, It's just it's so unnecessary. I don't understand it,
especially at this age. Like if somebody blows young and
athletic blows by him like Jason Tatum. That's understandable, right,
like you should do that. Yeah, you know, the whole
flopping and they call him the flop James, and I
just I don't, I don't understand it. And like you know,
some people are still looking at him sideways for his

(43:47):
appearance at the All Star Game, and it's like you
knew you were hurt. You could have and before an
hour two hours before the game, have given up that
spot to more someone more deserving. You already know we
talk about the West Packed, You could have had someone
else fill that void in that spot there. And then
for him, the big one too is him taking the

(44:07):
photo in street clothes instead of changing into the All
Star uniforms with the team. So people, that's typical Lebron.
You know, he's got to stand down, make it about him,
and I just I don't know. It's nothing. It's his legacy.
He's going to go down in most people's eyes as
the second best. A lot of people nowadays as time goes,
think he is the greatest. I mean, he the man's

(44:29):
the only one with fifty thousand career points and it's
had a great career.

Speaker 7 (44:33):
So of course, yeah, out of high school, long of
us years that he has been in the NBA, if
you want to surpass all the legends.

Speaker 1 (44:43):
I don't know what the hell he's doing, but it
took him a while.

Speaker 3 (44:48):
It took him all that years just to catch up
on some of his greats. That remind you that did
him in a very short span. That that when when
when he is like the longer that he was in
the NBA.

Speaker 2 (45:03):
Oh yeah, man, And that's a good point. I mean,
he's been in the league more than half of his life.
And I mean he's been in the league so long.
His son is now in the league too, right, So
I mean that's crazy in and of itself. But I
don't know. I just think, you know, that's the best
thing about sports, right, the story behind the story, and
it is I just like I said, I just enjoy

(45:25):
talking with you here and having fun with it. Which
we're keeping it the story alive. Right. People are gonna
make up their opinions on Lebron on steven A. Smith,
and we have ours, right, So you know, I just
just appreciate you taking times and uh, you know, having
another great story with me here. We're gonna be having
some baseball come up. In fact, your Dodgers. We're in Tokyo, right,

(45:48):
I believe they're in Tokyo, and like they're selling out crowds.
Does he show hell tiny? And yeah, I think it's
it's it's gonna be a great season. We will see
if they can run it back to back back.

Speaker 6 (46:00):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
And I'm looking forward to talking some more Dodgers and
some baseball in general with you. But let's get out
of here. Get a cheat who and will be on
our way. Brother three two one

Speaker 6 (46:12):
Who take me out to the ball game, take me

(46:37):
out to the Crown
