games overseas and why I have a problem with it? So,
without further ado, let's kick this off all right, Big
Island Sports Talk Show, Episode thirty five. NBA Conference, What
did you think about it? Man? Western Conference Eastern Conference?
Kick it off? What do you think?

I thought Timberwoolls was going to give him a more
fight than than I thought it was gonna be.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
I was like, wow, Man, what's going on with the
Minnesota going through my LA Lakers? And they went through
Golden State and just couldn't compete with with okc oh.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
They couldn't And it was it was severely one sided, right,
I mean, I'm with you. I thought that they would
put up more of a fight. I'm thinking we got
Sga versus ant Man. Yeah, or you had decent matchups.
You had Rudy Gobert, who's what four time defensive player
of the Year against chet holmbrid who's up and coming
into his own. But it was severely one sided. I

was I was pretty disappointed, you know, until I really
looked at how effortless it was for Shake Guilgris Alexandria
and how Aunt had to work. If you look at
the defense, Uh, they were throwing bodies all over at Edwards.
Shade was getting to his spots easy, easily, and and

so it really shows you that there's levels to this
and shows you that coaching does matter. Yeah, Chris Finch,
the Minnesota Timberwolves got them to that spot again for
the second straight year. But you gotta be thinking about
blowing up that team, right.

I thought it was gonna be a good good Western
conference fire. I'm gonna my petitioner was game seven. Yeah,
the way the whole hot those two teams was coming in,
Oh like, oh wow, man, that's gonna be a good
Western conference And it turned out to be the opposite.

Whoop, That's what it was. Well, I mean it's only
for the for the Minnesota Timberwolves, but I mean for look, Okay, see,
I remember being on this podcast last year. We're talking
about how young they were and you know, they still
got some ways to climb, and you know we saw
that in the playoffs last year when they got eliminated.

But this year it looked like they've been there before. Man.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Yeah, no, the way how easy it was for Shay
and it was just crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I thought it would be way way better.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
And like you said, coaches makes a difference, especially in
this kind of in this format of where the Western
Conference Championship, like you said, two years in a row,
and they got there and they just can't get over
the home man, that's crazy.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah, and then you know, go back to ok see,
it's like he got a little bit of everything sprinkled
in there. Okay, So you've got a scoring champion, you
got an MVP and SGA, you have defensive just proudness
like Alex Carusso is a champion, right, he won a champion.
Yeah they call him right. He's thirty one years old, right,

he's young.

He's been there though, he knew what they think. I'm
thinking he's over there whispering. She's here, like, man, you're
the man. Let's get this. You can't be stopped, you know,
because just the way he was with all his teams
and battling true playoffs and and and and I and
he's a good, good addition to to that team.

Well they needed him for the Dipper series. I mean
we know that that series win seven games and where
they call him the Joker stopper. And you're telling me
when he was six four five and he was just
upending the Joker, like I don't I never saw. And
if we're talking about what two time MVP Joker arguably
yeah four five, some people.

And then we're talking about lou Dort, Right, LUDRT, you're
talking about the ideal three in D type of guy
sitting he wants all the smoke and he gives it
to you. Right, So I look, think they're calling this
to Paul George finals because of course Paul George played
for both of those friends chizes. But yeah, so far

he's so far in the past because you got young
superstars like SGA, like, uh, excuse me, but keep going
down like y's Halliburton. Let me tell you this as
we move on to the Eastern Conference. I don't like
trus Celiburton that like.

I mean I talked you to be the very one
that would like Haliburt.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
I don't know, all right, It's maybe it's just little
things like like he does have that energy, that attitude
I can get behind because he's going after people, like
he gets into it with Dame Lillard.

He gets into it.

You know, he's that dog man, He's that dog.

Yeah. But I mean, I don't know. Maybe I'm just
biased because I told you I don't like his jumper.
I think his shot is.

Ugly just because it's real slow on his release and
I don't know what his mechanics.

It's effective, sure, but but here's one thing to really
spit out Like he was v he was just virtually
like no, not involved at all in the game and
the close that game against the Knicks, and all of
a sudden in the fourth quarter he goes off the scores,
you know, finally gets going and he's over here on

tucking his jersey and just pulling this like I'm.

Like, is that what like like like like he like
he did some real damage in that Knicks game.

Yeah, and he did in the series, but really, Pascoe,
I can did most of the damage. Yeah, thirty point games.
He's the one that won Eastern Conference champions or Eastern
Conference ad But you know, like no, just like he's
he's a good player, he's a great player. He's like
almost old fashioned point guard where he's looking to get
everybody else involved. Right, Yeah, you know nim Hard and

Mee Smith, they're finally you know, waking up, like nim
Hart shut down Jalen Brunson and that that final game. Yeah,
that six turnovers locked him down. The Knicks just looked tired.

But going back to they look beat up, man, That's
that's that's differently, look like.

They have to fight. He called for every every basket.

Well, there were some things that came out on that.
And I'll hit on the Knicks here after I make
this point about Halliburton. But I don't know, I don't
want Indiana to come after me with pitchforks and everything.

History of basketball, right, Ry Larry Bird was there what Indiana, right,
I mean, look, he coached the Pacers. Yeah, okay, yeah,

to pit Indiana. I'm not disrespecting you.

because you know, I've been rooting against the Pacers the entire.

I wanted to have some prosperity and come back, you know.

But well I wanted the Knicks too. I picked the Knicks.

Well, congratulations to the Pacers. First time. Yeah, THEA Finals
since the year two thousand, right, this is before White
two k when everybody thought the world was going to end.
That's this is where we're at right now. But I
mean an important important point that both of the teams
in the finals NBA Finals, which starts this Thursday, traded
for young point guards. Remember Halliburn came from Sacramento the Kings, right, Yes,

he was there with dearon Fox right and then yes
so uh and SGA it was with the Clippers.

Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
So, I don't know who they chose him. Maybe it
was Paul George, but s GA was was and Paul
George they got they gave him.

A lot for that trade, right, a lot, you.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Know, good for these two teams. I don't know if
this is good for the NBA. You got too small
market teams was coming. But what are your predictions? What
are you hoping to scene?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Well, my prediction is I got Okay see in six.
I just love the way that the okayc is playing
right now. They're they're looking like they're all in sync.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
They're like they're they're ready for for for the finals
again when what definitely the destroyed mient of soda. SGA
looks good. Check on grin, it looks good. And I
like the balls on this guy. Yeah, I got the
thunder and six.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Thunder and six all right, Oh, I mean I'm going
against Indiana. The whole time I was like, you know,
I'm not changing it.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
You're gonna go with the Okay, see, I know.

I'm one series too, so I'm gonna say, okay, see
when's it at home in seven?

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Wow, it's gonna be that close.

Seven Because obviously the Pacers they play well down the stretch. Okay,
they deserve to be there, even as a four seed, right, Yeah.
They always given the Bucks fit. They match up well
obviously against the Knicks, knocked him out two years in
a row, actually knocked the Knicks out of the playoffs.

Let me say this, do you think they have champions
with a healthy Boston team? Why you're bringing up all stuff.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
I mean, yeah, we saw Boston. We mentioned before in
the podcast. Boston was something like ten to two without
Tatum on the floor, and yeah, you're losing his twenty
seven to twenty eight points a game. It did hurt them,
But Boston had championship pedigree too, they were defending champions.
It's very difficult to repeat.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Right, it's very at this time and this day. Yeah,
it's very difficult.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Yeah, And like I'm giving the Pacers seven because again,
they got hot. They've got a little bit of everything.
Miles Turner, whether you like him or you hate him,
he's there. I always like a big man that could
step out and shoot.

Threes, but you can shoot, you know, And I like him.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
He's not just spotting like He's not like how Joel
and Bed is gonna take that man. He's going for blood.
He's going to try to bang Obie Topping. I mean,
the man's jumping out of the gym, right, So there
are aspects I like about the Pacers. I don't like
the yellow. I don't like Mustard. I don't know what
by golly, he's a weasel. But but but I got

to give it to him. And then Rick Carlos right
as a championship winning coach with the Yeah, so I'm
giving them a chance here maybe maybe you know, okay
see comes in and takes him out. Okay See in
five was trending right after, you know, we found out
what the matchup was. So America thinks it's okay Sees

to lose. Yes, of course, I would love to see
s g A bring home m v P scoring title
and uh win that championship.

Well, yeah, I mean what this been there since James
Haring was coming off the bench as a six man. Russell,
Westbrook and clov were all pups.

So it's been a long time, but it's nice to see.
Obviously there's people in Seattle that are looking at this.
It's like, man, if we had the SuperSonics, this could
have been us.

too sure about why they left. Maybe owner wanted to sell.
I really not too sure about that.

That's what I'm thinking. But I wanted to confirm.

But they didn't. But but the fans didn't want them
to leave, So I don't. I don't know why.

Okay, let's see Seattle SuperSonics left for OKC in two
thousand and eight primarily due to failed attempt to secure
a new arena deal.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Oh you better get your stuff together, man, we making
a playoff front.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
So yes goes to show you right there. So I
bet it was one of those things where ownership was like, well,
we don't want to pay everything for a new stadium, right,
even though these guys are uber wealthy and billionaires, and
the people up there in the Pacific Northwest are thinking,
we don't want to pay for this. You know you're
gonna put it on us. Not every city believes in that, right,

A lot of people get behind our teams. What just
a year or so ago, the people in Kansas City,
as much success as they were having, They're like, well, look,
we don't want to the Hunt family can afford to
do this. We don't put it on us right. Similarly
in Chicago too, which I think they finally did get
something done because Chicago Bears should have a new stadium
next Yes, but but yeah, I mean, look, you said six,

I said seven. I'm just hoping for some entertaining, some
close games like OKAC has won in dominant fashion. I
think they've won something crazy like four or five games
with thirty plus points.

bring up the Knicks. Obviously, I was on record talking
about how I wanted New York could be back in prime,
and we thought this was the time right here. And
then coming up, you know, obviously they made They traded
Julius Randall, they got Karl Anthony Towns, and it was
working for a while. Like the fact that they got

to this is game five.

Game was because of a big cat.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Because a big cat, right, he went off right, and
yeah it took off. But I don't know Karl Anthony Towns.
You know, some speculation came out. I'm going to read
this here for you, So it came out. This is
from bleacher Report that Knicks players and coaches expressed frustration
with cats defense and felt like he was executing coverages incorrectly,

with no x the nation as to why players felt
that Cat did not grasp the importance of defense.

Oh lord, we were talking about defense. There is no
defense in the NBA? What what? What is that? That?
That's not defense?

When you go defense, you're looking at the early two
thousands or the nineties or eighties, that's defense.

Where you score one hundred year you're happy. Usually it's
what eighty maybe ninety?

I don't think you should be talking about defense right now.

right there. So now you're trying to hide two of
your star players. You know, really you really need to
be so solid lockdown on the other end. And Josh
Harten is a decent defender, He's not giving you anything
on offense, like, yeah, I think we could win a
three point contest against them, Oh, Jane, and Obie is

coalking up Reggie Miller and how just biased his coverage
was like I don't want to hear him at all
on there. Like it's because he knows more basketball than
I'll ever learn, but it's like I like it when
announcers can really just paint the picture. At one point,
Karl Anthony Townsend, you know, he's been struggling with his
knee injury the whole time, and he falls and and

then you hear Reggie Reggie Miller talking about all this
is just for show, and it's like from you played
in the playoffs, you know it's more physical and somebody's
over here on the ground rolling around and you you're
talking about it's just show. Like, please do better, Reggie Miller,
he didn't win a championship.

Being an say and all that. I don't think you
should be putting anybody down. If anything, you know better,
like you said, be better.

Be better, objective Reggie. No, anyway to get on that,
But I want to go back. I think we talked
about this maybe kind of close to the start of
this podcast, and we're talking on Jalen Brunton and is
he a superstar? I think for all you're saying, yes
he is. That does that change anything the result of
this season. He's got full confidence that they're gonna be

back next year, gonna run it back. He's over confident.

Do you think he's a superstar Jamie Brunson, Yeah, definitely, Okay,

I think you need like a couple of other guys
being his uh, A couple more guys that can support them,
A couple of tall guys.

But I think they're like a couple of scores.

Well, you hear the news is and they want to
New York wants to ship out Karl Anthay Towns and
bring in Giannis.

Show me the money. Oh damn. Really? Oh wow, now.

You think you think one? You honest because he's talking
about leaving Milwaukee. But he's really gonna do it. I mean,
he did bring him a championship in twenty twenty one
over my sons. They got. He was talking about he
wanted a superstar. Dame Lillard is there and rehabbing. He's
walking on the treadmill again. So but I don't know,

he's over here getting into fights with Curri's, Halliburton's dad
and everything.

So bring that river to New York.

That's another thing. I don't like the Pacers. I'm just like,
control your bench, like they got the man. They had
a band for eight games. He finally came back talking
about free pops and all this, like it parcerated, you know.
But anyway, so I only we're not bring up Jayleen
Brunson beause I want to read this here to you.
So they say, if Jaylen Brunson is not a one

A player, then who is? And it shows a side
by side comparison of Shake Gildris Alexander. So I'm gonna
read so SGA in the playoffs? This this the playoffs
in its entirety twenty nine point eight points a game.
Just fantastic, right, Jalen Brunson edges him out at thirty
point one. Okay, SGA's got the rebounds five point seven

to three point five. Jalen Brunson has got him and
assist It's is closed, but he's got him seven assist
a game, SGA six point nine. Their field goal percentage
is almost identical forty six percent edge to SGA forty
seven percent. So after three point percentage, he's shooting thirty
six percent from three point range. His true shooting is

at fifty nine percent, edging out SGA, and then points
from free throws twenty three point three percent. SGA's at
twenty six point five.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
So it seems like seems like Bunch is a better player,
well stat wise.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
That's but let me ask you this, though you would
it would beat us?

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Would it be a better team if Bronson was in OKC?

Speaker 2 (22:06):
And wouldn't New York be a better team if if
SGA was in New York?

I think the SGA being in New York part and
reason being is because SGA does a great job getting
his guys and ball right, and he does a good
job get into where he wants where that last game,
it was kind of hard watching Jalen Bronston kind of
labor around, spend left, spend right, get your bunch money

taken by namhard Like. It was just like every time
I thought that they had a chance to make it
a run, and I think they did cut it to
seven or eight points at one point, but they again
they just looked tired and getting no offense from Josh Hart.
You know, cat is just like why.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
You know, well, what would they win that series? If there?

Speaker 3 (22:56):
I mean, I got to get him to the m VP,
the current MVP scoring champion. I think he would have
willed away it because because Jalen Brunson and Kat fell
short in his games. I mean then Jalen Brunston had
nineteen points and that in that fin.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Yeah, Nis Carton didn't didn't show up.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
I just read it his average. He's averaging thirty in
the playoffs. So you you get that extra eleven points
or so, or go over like Pascal Siakam who had
multiple thirty point games and two. Yeah, so it's to
your scenario. I'm thinking, yeah, but I would take the
SGA over Jalen Brunson right now, even given the fat
I mean, he's younger, he's got a little bit more hype,

a little bit more length. But I do I just
think that SGA does have a better team around him.
Yeahs coaching Mark Dagnall, that's not wasn't running him into
the ground and having his players play forty plus minutes
which just they just had nothing left to get. So yeah,
so yeah, I just like to compare those stats. I
just wanted to see, you know what you thought about that.

And then another knock too on Jayleen Jalen Brunson. This
man getting his lunch money taken. I respect the fact
that he's fighting back to his bully, Andrew nim Hart,
but like you got head button, man, is that the
kind of playoffs that we want to see? Right here?

Again, Bud, you ain't getting no freebie.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
And that's not the first time he was shoved them
before nim Hark.

Speaker 1 (24:13):
Yeah, he got in his head.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
He got frustrated, and that's how that's how your game
get depleted, when you get frustrated. You said, you're scoring
all this, but this guy is over there tormenting you,
you know, picking your pockets, bullying you. On the court
of course you're going to retaliate because you're frustrated and
you're letting your team down by not scoring and and

getting his getting into his head and getting turn on wards. Yeah,
I think that was a big factor. Well yeah, at
that game.

I wish I wish they would show Rich Brunton up
in the stands just looking man, just you know, he
was alright NBA players. So but yeah, and again I
like Jalen. I like his heart, I like his mindset
where he's at right here.

He he's a baller for sure, but.

Yeah, him and Cat definitely let the Knicks down. You
let New York down, and it's the biggest city in
