Speaker 5 (01:41):
I'm here as a dealership, believe it or not, but
you know, we get done when we can get done
when we can do it. And I have a future
star in my eyes. Lightweight undefeated sixteen and oh fourteen.
Ko's only twenty years old. His name is that little Mason.
And yeah, do you gotta fight coming up on Valentine's Day?
Speaker 4 (02:05):
What's going on? Are you doing being ready?
Speaker 6 (02:08):
You know we've been we've been locked in, so you
know we're here.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
To get done, all right, that's what's up? All right?
Listen when you get right into it. Last year, right,
you fought five times, but the biggest test came in
November when you had to answer some questions about yourself
after being knocked down twice against the Johann Vasquez. Just
curious on some of the thoughts that ran through your
(02:32):
head during those intense moments when that happened.
Speaker 6 (02:41):
You mean, like right right there during the fight.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yeah, yeah, it was, uh for me, it was.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
It was kind of shocking a little bit, you know,
it was it happened so quickly, but I prepare well
for it, you know, we trained well for it in
the gym, so you know, I didn't feel like an
or anything or it was you know, everything happened and
went according to plan. You know, that one that one
(03:07):
small you know, hiccup was there, but I felt like
I did exceptional you know, and carried on and got
the job done, you know, beautifully.
Speaker 5 (03:16):
Okay, all right, and then let and as you mentioned,
you roared back next round you finished them. Would you
say that you needed that fight and what occurred during
that fight at this point of your career as you're developing, I.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Feel like it was a great It was a great
stepping stone, you know, whether rather whether that or without that,
you know, it was a great stepping stone versus a
great opponent. You know, you had twenty one knockouts in
twenty six wins, so that lets you know where it
puts me as far as uh, you know how well
I could come up off of something like that and
(03:54):
finish the fight. So it was a you know, now
I've been through it, Yeah, for sure, I feel like
it was a who's needed?
Speaker 6 (04:01):
Whose needed?
Speaker 2 (04:01):
As much as I hated it, but you know, we're
on to the next and we're gonna keep doing exceptional.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Okay, And then at this point, naturally, you know, pressure starts,
a little bit of pressure starts to creep in as
much success as you had last year, what keeps you
grounded outside the ring, you know, and what are some
of the things outside of boxing that you like to
do to kind of keep your mind at ease.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
In a way from all of those potential pressures.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I just be chilling with the family for you know,
we uh, whatever we're doing, we do it together. So
but we know that, you know, in boxing, once once
you acted, and once you at this point, it's gonna
take you know, five teen years of continue work. So
so whatever I do, it's not really like escape from
it for real. You know, even if I'm you know,
(04:54):
out the movies or just chilling with the family or
we take a smaller trips out of it, boxing is
still in the back of your head because you know
what you have to get back to. You know, you
know how well you got to do next time you
step in that ring, So it never leaves, it never
leaves your conscience, you know. So I feel like this
is how it's gonna be until I'm until I see
(05:15):
him finish with it.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
Okay, all right?
Speaker 5 (05:17):
And so you're fighting Manuel Hymenz sixteen to two and
one eleven KOs who went ten rounds with former WBA
Junior walsweight champion Roleie Romero.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Excuse me in September? Is this the fight that you
feel that you.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
Even higher or at the next level from where you're
at now?
Speaker 6 (05:41):
Most definitely, most definitely. You know, I miss see. He
got a little bit of everything. You know, he likes
to fight. He let his hands go.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
You know, he get on the inside, you bang with me,
punch it out, ain't gonna keep punching.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
He likes to box a little bit too, So he
has a little bit of it all. And my job
is to make him look just like the rest of them.
So you know, whatever he's bringing, I gotta adjust to
that and get the job done. So that put me
for sure at a at a higher ranking or you
know everybody who's watching me that have had me at
at another level.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
On the list.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Okay, and this is the second time, if I'm not mistaken,
fighting at the MSG theater, but this time, like me
further up on the card, right, How different is it
entering in the ring you did the first time in
October twenty twenty two, and now almost two years later,
(06:35):
you know, doing the same in the same in the
same building, but at a different part of the point
of your career. Like, how does that feel?
Speaker 2 (06:45):
I mean, I was I would say him better all
the way through, you know, I say I'm stronger, you know,
more developed, more experienced.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
I've been in there a few more.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Times, so it's gonna it's going to feel more natural
to me and my job. I should do the same
thing I did the last time I was an MSG,
get the KO. But you know, either that comes or
rather it doesn't come. I'm there to get the job done.
You know. If he doesn't fall, I'm gonna keep boxing,
you know, into the the fighting is over and in
(07:17):
the end he will be raised and we're onto the
next one.
Speaker 6 (07:21):
So we got it easier.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Yeah, And I was I was gonna ask you and
kind of answered that you are ready, but I'll say
it anyway. You know those New York fans that will
be flooding the theater at the Garden on Valentine's Day,
you know what should they be expecting from you that.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Night Valentine They gifts, I guess be not giving out
flowers that we're giving out smokes. So they in there
and they're gonna watch it, and they're gonna have a
lot of fun watching me this ship out.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
That's so that's gonna be the headline. We're not giving
out flowers, giving out smoke or what are some of
the lastly, what are some of the goals you have
set for this year?
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Hopefully we uh grab a small title, you know, sometime
this year, hopefully fight after this moon or first so
and I just want to just be as active as
I was last year and get the same results, you know,
to get higher up on the rankings so that I
can peep up on a world championship or in the
mainly been in Cleveland for sure, that's one thing I
(08:31):
do want to have a mainly bit in Cleveland.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
Okay, all right, listen, Abdullah, I appreciate your time. I
wish you the best of luck on Friday the fourteenth,
