All Right, Richard, thank you for joining me Boxing Rush
Hour Show Fights atw dot Com April fifth, Palms Casino.
You will be going for your thirteenth victory against Guido Vanello,
who's thirteen two and one. Yeah, he is ranked a
number thirteen in IBF. You're number fourteen according to the

(01:58):
last Ones.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Big Show Las Vegas. How you feeling.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
I'm super excited, you know. I think this is amazing.
This is my first time in Las Vegas, and to
headline as my first fine Las Vegas. It's incredible. I
think it's an amazing card altogether. And I'm really excited
because like a lot of people always talk about, oh, Richard,
you're not fighting anybody, or you're not doing this, you're
not doing that. I don't rely think they could say
anthing about Widow. You know, he's really showed and and

(02:24):
test himself. He's fo some really good guys, and I'm
excited to really throw my hand in the ring there
and be able to say, like, I'm supposed to be
here as well.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Yeah, and we're definitely going to get into that. But
I want to first touch on last year, right, you
have four fights Isaac Gucierrez, Joey de Jecco, Brandon Moore,
Donald Haynesworth.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Out of all those fights.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Which one gave you the most experience that made you
feel as though you leveled up internally with your boxing experience.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
You know. I think all those guys had had something
to give, you know.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
Deveco he was he was a veteran, you know, he
had some really good fights. He fought some world champions.

Speaker 5 (03:08):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
Brandon Moore was an undefeated fighter. Isaac Windows was the
number one guy in the country. And so I think
each one was was definitely like a step and in progress.
I think one of the most notable ones was probably
just taken the O from random Moore. It was it
was kind of cool and it was a little different

(03:29):
because he was one of the only fighters that started
like talking trash, you know, and so being able to
do that was a little bit more fulfilling. But other
than that I think. I think each guy had their
their their own set of skills that I needed to
accomplish and overcome. And uh, and I was grateful that
Top gave the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
All right, And then what was life like for you
last year outside of the ring?

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Life outside of the ring? For me last year was
inside the training center or inside another ring, you know
what I mean. I think it was more so going
back and forth from five to another. And I kind
of like that, you know. I like staying busy, I
like being active and uh, and it was great. On
top of that, I I started taking dance classes. I
take like salsa, I would do pachata some of a
couple other ones, and and then I would take philosophy clubs.

(04:18):
I would take philosphy classes and I read a little bit.
So just kind of trying to better myself inside and
outside the ring. But I feel like everything I do
can somehow come back to the ring and help me
back there again.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Yeah, and and I and I bring that up because
the last time we spoke, it was perfecting magic. It
was damn classes like you mentioned uh in starting your
own garden. So how has that been going? And did
you pick up anything else along the way.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
Man, that that garden heart my feelings because, uh, in
my backyard, like there's not a lot of wind flow,
and so the garden got like a focus on it
because there wasn't enough wind in there, and that that
one hurt my feeling. So the peppers didn't make it.
But I want to start again soon. And uh, the
magic tricks I'm perfecting the same for I have like
four magic tricks and they're they're doing really well, you know,

(05:12):
so I like, if you meet me the first time
I have great magic tricks, you met me a second
time that they're okay, third time, you've seen them all before
like three times, so that's pretty cool. But uh, and
then the the dance classes were cool. I like them
a lot. We would do recitals like that was like
the ballet jazz and stuff like that. But I started
getting more into like partner work dance classes like sal

(05:32):
some but Chapta, and I think that kind of helps
boxing a little bit more. And you have to keep
your your distance and keep your spacing. You have to
lead your your uh your your partner into doing what
you want them to do. And I think it kind
of mimics boxing a little bit better. Uh So I
started switching over towards that a little bit more. But overall, yeah,
I feel like if I find something I like, I
kind of stick to it. And I've been sticking to

(05:53):
the things, you.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Know, and and more importantly, it helps you avoid stepping
on people's feet. Yeah, of course, all right, So first
main event, Las Vegas.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
This is a big deal for you. How do you avoid.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Succumbing to the pressures that come with headlining your own event?
You know, there there's people like you mentioned that will say,
you know, what have you really done? You know? And
and your opponent that your face has, you know, has
got the arsenic in their fa Johnny Rice. So how

(06:29):
do you how do you avoid succumbing to the pressures
of headlining?

Speaker 4 (06:34):
I think there's there's two ways to go about it.
Is you can fight the pressure and try I feel
like it's not there, or you can embrace the pressure.
And I think I've come at it from an aspect of
embracing the pressure, like I notice there, I feel it,
and I'm gonna use it to my advantage. And so
with that being said, like a lot of these guys
are like they hate it, they don't they don't like
all the eyes on them. I think this is this
is a wonderful thing to have happened to me. You know,

(06:56):
like pressure makes diamonds and stuff like that, and it's
it's kind of like the you have to take the
guild with the bad. I've always wanted the main event.
I've always wanted to be uh talked about. I've always
wanted to have eyes on me, and so with that
there has to be some pressure, and there has to
be some people that have to be naysayers, and there
has to be something else. So I would much rather

(07:16):
be a main event guy that has guys talk about
me than be a guy that no one talks about
and never get a main event you.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Know, yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
And does your physical and or mental approach change for
this fight than your approach in previous ones.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
I think that this time we were able to get
some some different guys out here, for like for like sparring,
We're able to get some bigger guys because this guy
is a tolerant opponent. But as far as mindset and
just like physical preparation, I really do take every fight
like a world championship fight, and I go into it
as just the biggest fight of my career, because in
the pros, every fight is your biggest fire your career,

(07:56):
you know, like, and you lose one time you give
a bad performance, it could change entirely of your career.
And so I don't really give a different mindset into
this fight. I'm still training as hard as I can,
just like I was the last camp in the camp
before that, I can before that, And I think that
that actually just helps me out because it is an
ease on the pressures as well, because it's not like

(08:18):
I'm training harder for this fight, because I've been training
the hardest I can every single time.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Gotcha? Gotcha?

Speaker 2 (08:24):
And And how does your fight on April fifth play out?

Speaker 3 (08:28):
And what's your fans expect?

Speaker 4 (08:30):
I mean, I think the fans kind of know already
that whenever I come to fight, I come to fight,
you know. And so I'm gonna be there, I'm throwing
that leather and you're gainst some fireworks, you know. Where
We're two guys that are both Olympians. So I think
it's gonna be able to show a lot more boxing
ability on my set and and his, and I think
that we're gonna be able to give a fan favorite

(08:51):
fight because he likes to throw and I love to
throw as well.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
All right, and then lastly, what goals have you set
for yourself personally and professionally for the rest of the year.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Professional goals is to remain undefeated.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
And professional goals is just to continue to show the
world just who I am. You know. I feel like
with the twelve fights and kind of my social media presence, uh,
you guys are starting gett an understanding of it. But
I think that that iron sharpen and iron iron sharpens
iron and being able to be in the ring with
someponents like like Widow is going to really show and

(09:32):
allow me to showcase who I am as a boxer.
And on a personal level, I think it's just to
learn as much as I can. You know, I'm gonna
go back. I'm probably gonna take some more classes, uh,
and I'm gonna continue to read and just try to
figure out this world. What'st up a time?

Speaker 5 (09:49):
You know?

Speaker 2 (09:50):
All right, Well, listen, Richard, thank you for your time today.
I appreciate it and I wish you the best of luck.
