Speaker 3 (01:46):
Good?
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Good? Good?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Listen, you got you got this big fight coming up?
He Uh, you know, somewhat of a big fight now, yeah,
May fourth for your fighting Nile in a way for
the unders. You just super valuate title before we go
into anything else. Who the hell are you outside of
(02:07):
the ring? Because people want to know that you know people.
They can look up your box circuit stuff. But who
are you outside of the ring?
Speaker 4 (02:15):
I think you know, Like I told the last guy, man,
I'm a regular person like everybody else.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Man.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
I have my good days, and I have my bad days,
and I have my downs, and I'm just a person
who's trying to accomplish his dreams. As a kid, I
dreamt about winning a world title, man, and you know
I'm almost there to accomplish that. And uh, that's really
man's that's really who I am. I'm very laid back,
I'd say I'm not.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
I'm very easy to work with, very laid back, and
I'm not out and about all the time. I'm just
I'm just an normal person like everybody else, Okay.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
And and so, like, what are some of the things that
that people may not know about you?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Some of the things that people may know about might
not know about me? Is I like to do the
lego sets. I like the video games. I like the
van life stuff. I don't know if you ever heard
about van life travel. Yeah, people build out their van.
They put a restrument in there, and then they put
(03:18):
like a kitchen thing and they live in their van
and they travel the United States and stuff.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, I've heard that in Europe they do that.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Yeah, so I've always wanted to do that here in
the United States. So I like that as well. I
like the film industry in a sense, I like, you know,
like the movies. I like, I love movies. I love
watching movies and stuff like that. But for me it's
a little different because for me, it's like I see,
for me, my brain works is I'll watch a movie
(03:45):
and I'll try to already set up what's gonna happen
at the end and tell myself, Okay, if I was
writing this movie, this is how I would do it,
like A B and C and D.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Gotcha. It seems like it seems like you're really interested
in things that challenge your mind. Because even though like
a Legos that a Lego sounds like you know kitty right,
you know, it could really challenge you when it comes
to like actually building it and get frustrated and they
stop halfway or from the beginning.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Yeah, yeah, no, for sure, bro, Like that's one thing
for sure that that it does. It's cool because for
a minutes like relaxing, but there are certain parts for
where I'm like, damn, like the fight, what's going on here?
And then I'm like, okay, okay, just stay chilled, like
I'll just I'll relax, and then okay, I'll focus on
like trying to fix it.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Gotcha?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Gotcha? All right?
Speaker 3 (04:35):
And then I'm interested in knowing like kind of talk
us through the whole like the process of getting the
in a way fight, Like how did all that come
about for you?
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Really? Man?
Speaker 4 (04:47):
I Mean all it was was a phone call brother,
I was talking to my manager had just called me.
My manager just randomly called me, and we were just
talking and we're just talking about something else, and he
was like, out of random, he was like, would you
like to fight in a way And I was like, yeah,
you know, I told you that that was a fight
that I was very interested in and that I wanted.
(05:08):
He's like, okay, May fourth, and I said wait wait.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
I was like, are you serious. He's like yeah, like.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
He was like yeah, and I was like, oh damn.
I was like yeah for sure. And then he was like,
just uh, I can't tell me. Just don't say nothing.
He's like, just to quiet. We're still negotiating, but just
to quiet about it. And I was like okay. So
then I ended up calling my my friend at the time,
I trained my mother training to Ronnie come through. I
ended up calling him and I was like, hey, dude,
(05:35):
I think we're gonna fight anyway, and he was getting haircut.
He was like shut the fuck up, and I was
like now yeah, he's like, bro, you're serious. I was
like yeah, And then I was like, I just talked
to my manager. I talked to my this and then
he's like, oh, man, like dude, Like, okay, okay. I
was like, don't sound nobody there. So then I called
my dad and my dad was like, what, like for real?
And I was like yeah, so yeah, man, it happened fast, dude,
(05:59):
because because for me, it was he was in negotiations
with Picastle and and he was in negotiations with the MJ,
you know, with all these people, and uh, for me,
it was like it's not gonna happen. But then when
it finally happened, I was like, oh, okay, I got
my chance.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
He ya, that's what's up, all right? And then so
talk to us a little bit about your camps, like
so where is your camp and who's in charge of
getting you together or helping you put together or what's
going to be the game plan for fighting in a
way in May.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
So right now my camp, well, I've been I've been
training with your fight together with Joel and running Canto.
Those are the guys that are you know, and those
are the guys that are in charge of it. And
then I have my strength condition coach as well, uh,
Benjamin Henan this here in Coachella, I have you know,
(06:55):
Tonio has been helping us as well. An dis as
well has been helping. It's been just a team at
for you know, recently, man, because they you know, everyone
knows the magnitude despight and uh, it's like anything, man.
You know, we all want to bring those titles back
to Coachella, and you know, I want to take them
back to San Antonio. So that's what we're you know,
waiting for innocence. You know, we all know that this
(07:17):
is a team effort, a team effort fight. And again,
we're just all.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
The team. We're just working hard, man. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, and the weather's already getting hot over the colla.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah. Yeah, it's terrible. It's terrible. It's terrible.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Yeah, you gotta take a shower at night or early
in the morning.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
Yeah, I'm sweating and I'm literally just laying here.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Yeah, listen, it's no secret heavy underdog betting underdog. Look,
that's just what it is. Right when you hear that, right,
or when you see that or read that, that's the
first thing that pops in your mind.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
The first thing that pops into my mind when I
see the underdog is it's really there's one of those
things where it's only I don't even explain it, man,
Like it's one of those things where.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
That's okay.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
You know, in a sense, that's okay. No one has
to believe in me but myself. That makes sense. Yeah,
So that's how I'm taking it, Like, no one has
to believe in that I can win, but if I
believe in it, then I know it's possible. And that's
how I see it, man, With the underdog and all
that stuff.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
I never I've been an underdog before in my career,
and and.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
You know, it doesn't necessarily phaze me, man, because in
the ring it's different. You know, all the betting odds
and all that stuff. It's it's just it's just different.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Man. I was, I was.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
I was an underdog when I thought so, but he
was like, oh, he's too small, but it also six
foot something in his job.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
And I knocked him out on the second round.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
And then I was an underdog when I fought at
the Picastle and I broke his jaw in the sixth
round or the fifth round. Like these things, like the
underdog role is something that I've never been scared scared of, man,
because my dad told me when I was a kid,
when I first turned pro man, He's like, you're gonna
have to fight some guys eventually that are gonna or
(09:27):
might be better than you, or might you have to fight
somebody who's gonna fight back eventually. And I got to
that point where I started doing that and I was like,
you know what, like, it's not as bad as as
you know. I think it's not as bad as people think.
And again, you know that's the role that I that
I took in my career. And I looked at me,
(09:49):
bro I'm fighting. I'm fighting fund this period woods. You
know it's Underpeter Warods titles.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah, yeah, no doubt and and listen, May fourth is
gonna be here app of a finger, right, And so
at the end of that night, like in your mind,
how does that fight play out?
Speaker 4 (10:11):
I mean, I think like every other, like every athlete, man,
I'm never gonna say I'm going in there to lose.
So if I all, if I could write a story
right now, I would tell you that I come up victorious, man,
and I go and I go home to my family
and I and I get welcomed with a big old
(10:32):
parade stuff like that. That's how I would tell you.
That's how I see it. Man, be able to after
or even right after the fight, you know, be able
to you know, walk down the Vegas Strip with my family,
man and with my girlfriend and just enjoy the enjoy
the enjoy the moment, you know, kind of be able
(10:54):
to enjoy the moment, sucking like as it's funny to
sound like sucking in the moment and say, man like,
I've worked my whole life to get here. Since I
was twelve years old. I've worked my whole life and
I finally got here, man, and I'm like, oh, finally,
you know, like this whole weight off your shoulders type
of thing. Like it's like you man like, let's say
you your page. When you first started your page, you
(11:16):
used to tell yourself, Man, I'm gonna I'm one day,
I'm gonna get one hundred thoud subscribers or two hundred
thousand subscribers.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
And then you get there, and you.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Finally get there, you're just like, yes, like I finally
made I made it where I wanted to be.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
That's how I'm.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Gonna be man Like, the same, the same feeling I'm
gonna have the same one.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
That's what's up, all right? And and listen, you know
if if we if we were in let's say the
press conference right now, and you were standing right in
front of in a way, would they make anything that
you would say to him, you know that whatever, whatever
that may be good, bad, kind of like trying to
(11:55):
intimidate him, whatever, But what would you tell in a
way if you were standing right in front of you.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
I mean I would just tell them, really, man, thank you, brother,
because at the end of the day, like, it's it's.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
A sport, you know, I don't.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
I think that's what separates a lot of people from
from you know, like in a sense like reality is.
It's just sport, you know, Like I don't ever take
it personal because it's not personal. Man, It's like any
other sport like basketball, football, or soccer.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
We love to do it. It's just a very gruesome sport.
But it's a it's a sport.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
So ultimately, I would just tell them to thank you
for the opportunity, man, and let's give up people a
good fight, one that they can remember both of us for,
one that they both of us are going to be
remembered in history for.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
And that's all I would say, brother.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
You know again, I've never taken the sports serious but
not that seriously, let me reward it.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I've never taken the sport personal, you know where.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
I've never taken it personal where you know, I see somebody,
I'm like, yeah, my mother, fuck you up. I've always say, man,
like good luck to you, you know and to me all.
I want to win just as bad as you want
to win. And let's go out there. And it's just
they just especially as it sounds, man, they just bunk
each other up for people saying, you know.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Oh man.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
And lastly, what do you want to tell the fans
that are going to be seeing the the the film
that's gonna hit the theaters starring Ramon Cardinez going up
against Nila in a way I'm made for imagine?
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Want to I just want to tell them, really man,
like you know, just thank all my supporters, thank everybody
who believes in me, and thank everybody who who just
who's been supporting me.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Man.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
You know, like I said this earlier, when it comes
to like they sayers and the negative people and the
people who who have anything negative to say, I don't
really respond to them, man, because for for for them,
it's like, uh, it's easy to say.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Gonna get like that in three rounds or four rounds
or this. But it's like for me, it's like, you
get in the ring, then let's see how hard. Let's
see how easy it is if you get it.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
You know, like it's easier to critique on the on
the keyboard, it's easier to say, oh, you know, uh X,
Y and Z and ABC and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
But let's see you get in the ring.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Let's see you go in front of thousands of people,
not millions of people, uh, thousands people in the stadium
and millions of people watching. Let's see how easy it
is for you gonna do that. And so that's you know,
for the supporters and stuff. Man, for people who love boxing,
like who love boxing, I want to thank them for
for just continuing supporting boxing and the movement and you
(14:43):
know the direction that everyone's going towards boxing.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Man. Uh. For the people who who who.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Have anything negative to say, man, for them, I don't
even acknowledge them, because like I told you, brother, if
it was easy, man, everybody would do it.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
If it was easy, everybody would get into the ringing,
put some gloves on and fight in front of millions
of people.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
But it's not, man, they only a certain amount of
crazy people have it.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
In them to actually do it.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
And you know, I'm just one of those guys who
are crazy enough to go over there and do it.
And uh, that's really it, man, because because for me,
I do want to I want to go back to again.
I've been saying this, and I want to lead by
example of the best fighting the best.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I want to have it where you know.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Who cares about a loss, bro, namely one fighter besides
Floyd man with.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
That retired undefeated. Yeah. Yeah, I'm Rocky Marciato, but he
had a draw.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Yeah, But namely one fighter that retired and defeated besides Floyd.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
All all the legends, all the legends have lost.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
They all lost, But does that make them any worse,
any any worse of a fighter? No, you don't ever hear.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
And it's funny because you don't ever hear people say
Arturo Gatti was a terrible fighter.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
You don't. I don't ever hear it.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
You hear that he was a warrior, bro, Bro, he
gave it all he got. Same with Mickey Ward, same
with even Emmanuel Augustus. Bro, you have a guy who
like Emmanuel Gusts, I have a.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Lot of losses.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
But I know people who fought Emmanuel Gusts personally and
they say, Bro, that was the toughest fight I've ever had,
you know what I mean? And you know, even topped
up courting Bro like has twenty something lost, is not
thirty uh, one of the greatest of all time because
he fought everybody and he's given he heard Floyd Mayweather,
(16:34):
he heard me go Koto like and even those guys
me go Koto. Bro has losses like Bdney Packya's losses.
But does that make him any worse of a fighter?
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Correct? You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (16:46):
So I think I think we need to go back
to that mindset of maybe these top of the line
fighters wouldn't mind fighting the other top of the line
of fighters if everybody supported you the same and they
didn't write you off after a loss, or didn't write
you off after you you you lost to another good.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Fighter, You know what I mean? If that makes sense?
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Yeah, like how they like like again, like I said, like, well,
I'm going to leave when he got knocked out by
Joe Fraser. You don't ever hear people say, oh, I'm
gonna leave was a terrible fighter. No, he's one of
the greatest small time. He had six losses, five and
six losses. Does that make him any worse? No, you
(17:29):
know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
So I mean again, brother, you know it is what
it is. But uh, that's what I would say.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
The fans, man, I just want people to go back
to that mentality of like the best fan, the best
who carriage windows your draw man, as long as you
watching the best fights that that you want to see, that's.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Right, that's right. Well listen, I'm on, I appreciate your time.
We're the best of luck and who knows, let's see
if we if you get that parade down to San Antonio.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
That's the plan, bro, all.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Right, thank you for today.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
It's the box of us out. So yeah, I
