Speaker 3 (02:59):
Move been on here a text message popping and we
were talking about high school sports. We're gonna have high
school football on this station. Friday night, seven pm. Provo
takes on Green canyon at home, and we'll bring you
all of the action right here on the fan. One
text message popping through this morning saying Bryce and Jordan
love listening to you guys on the way to work.
The humor mixed with good sports content makes my traffic

(03:23):
filled commute go by quickly.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Thank you. That's it. That's the old text. We appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
No, just kidding text that's not the only people get
more text like that. Jeez, that's a great text. That's
a great way to start off the text. If you
want to read, if you want your text message read,
that's a great way to start off the text message.
The rest of it is regarding high school sports, and
this texter continues saying the transfer portal in high school
sports in Utah is killing the game. I moved here

(03:50):
from California two years ago. The transfer rules in California
are very strict. If you moved slash transferred and played
a sport, you would have to sit out half the season.
Then we move to Utah and it seems anyone and
everyone can transfer whenever and wherever they want.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
There are no rules.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
It's public information that the best players go to the latest,
hottest school Why is that allowed? This defeats the purpose
of growing local talent and boys growing up playing together,
building camaraderie, and looking forward to high school sports. I
was chatting with a parent yesterday, an eleven year old
son who plays football already at eleven years old, His

(04:32):
son doesn't think he'll be able to play football at
his own school because of all the talent that transfers in.
When is the UHSAA going to fix this problem? And
why don't more parents, players, and coaches care about this issue.
Seems that coaches knowingly turn their head to the issue
and put their hands up in the air. Again, other

(04:54):
states are quite strict. Why can you do whatever you
want in Utah? It seems to be another example of
win at all costs and that is all that matters. Well,
I do remember, at least when I was in high school,
which was twenty thirteen, fourteen, fifteen sixteen, Right through those years,

(05:15):
those rules were in place. Anytime someone would transfer, you
would have to sit out for a certain period of
time or you would have to get a waiver in
order to play. And it's like a hardship type of waiver.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
And when I was in high school before that, we
had kids moving into the like quote unquote moving into Bingham's,
you know, allegedly, yeah exactly. They're what would you even
go boundaries?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Yes, so but yeah, go ahead, yeah, or they're moving
in with like an uncle that lives in timfused boundaries.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yeah, it's amazing. They found an apartment inside the back
of that Walgreens right that address.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
At least that an open condo that four of the
same players all living together.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
It's amazing. So back then you couldn't do it. Wasn't
totally open enrollment. I guess right now they do have
the open enrollment thing where every time they flash up.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
This is the funniest thing. I love watching this. And
they're gonna do it when he's in the NFL two. Possibly,
we'll see. But when Jackson Dart was at Ole, Miss,
they'd put his face on the thing and it'd say
hometown Kaysville, Utah High School, Corner Canyon High School. Yeah,
that's pretty far away. That's like a forty five minute
commute to go to high school. Yeah, from Kaysville down

(06:35):
to Draper. Yeah, you can double check me on that.
I think it's thirty forty five minutes. It's a long way, So, yeah,
you're exactly right. A couple of years ago, a couple
of twins. There was one of the two twins that
ended up going to Timfew. Now they now put not twins, brothers,
excuse me, brothers went to timfud. Now they play both

(06:56):
for the University of Utah. At this moment in time,
one of them tweeted out something about how he's never
seen a kid who a kid from Spanish fork who
made the decision to play for Timfew go wrong. You know,
he's never he's never seen the kid regret their decision
to go play for tim view. That was publicly tweeted

(07:19):
out while this kid was in high school, just out
there completely saying, yet this is not only is it
a thing that everybody knows about. I can even tweet
about it and no one's gonna say anything about it,
Like nobody's gonna do anything about it.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Yeah, and we should answer the Texters question. I don't
know why the uh u HSAA and if they have
the authority, I don't know why open enrollment is even
a thing.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
To be honest with you, there was a big push
and you know what, my sister's a softball coach. We
should get her on the on the line and and
have her answer a question because she's more in touch
with current UHSAA stuff and she goes through this every
single year.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
But the one thing I know that is there was
a push to free it up a little bit more
so the kids could go to any school that they
want about, you know, five to ten years ago, and
that push has led to open enrollment where they don't
have to deal with waivers and trying to get kids
eligible to play and different things like that.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
How about there aren't any waivers. How about we just
you have to go to the school where you live. Now,
the problem is there are other situations where you should
be able to, like non sports situations, frankly.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
And there were well, and you know, at one point
when I was in high school, they were kids writing
letters to the district for like hardship stuff. Okay, I
don't like going to school here because I'm getting bullied
at the school. I want to go to a different school,
and then the district would review it and approve deny it.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Yeah, but it's gotten Yeah, to just take away all
the rules basically because we should ask I think this
is correct. Don't quote me I'm when you're going into
ninth grade here, you can choose wherever you go, right,
you can start fresh right there. You don't need to like,
you just choose. Because that's the Texter talking to that parent.

(09:15):
The kid's eleven years old, so he's got like four
years and he still is like, yeah, I don't think
I'm gonna be able to go to the school that's
down the street from me because kids from out of
our boundary are transferring into play sports. It just defeats
the purpose again of high school sports, of that connection
to the community and being have an opportunity to play

(09:37):
at the school where you live. It's just gotten completely
out of hand. And I don't know, it's a great question,
why doesn't Why don't they tighten the reins a little
bit on that?

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Yeah, I don't know if it's a similar thing to
like the NCAA, where there's been I'm not gonna there
probably hasn't been lawsuits. We probably would have heard about
the lawsuits, but there's more of a maybe the UHSA
feels like they don't have enough power to be able to.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Do that, but some you know, the legislature, whatever they
do here, like UNC double A in a lot of
ways does not They don't. Somebody, a governing body in
the state absolutely has that power and they're not they're
not doing it, and it does it that it hurts.
It hurts high school sports, I think because you get

(10:24):
these powerhouse schools that just and you would still have
powerhouse schools with these you know if you didn't allow
these transfers, but it would be more evenly dispersed. Like, yeah,
it's just not you know, seeing the same teams in
the football semi finals every year and it's nothing, you know,

(10:46):
not that much fun.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
And it is true that, like it is the newest
and best school around that always becomes the next power right,
the newest school that's built is always the best.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Team that has the most money.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Yeah, because it used to be Bingham and Brighton, right,
those your big time teams that all the schools will go.
As soon as Corner Canyon was built, boom, Corner Canyon
becomes the next big thing.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Yeah, it's been surprising down in Utah County.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
Skyridge popped up and they've won a state championship or
two and they've been competitive, but it's still your lone peak.
It's still these other schools that you know dominate still
down in Utah County.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
And where are all these schools located. What's the common
denominator upper class areas? Yeah, yeah, is lone peak football
or they have football?

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Yeah, they're still competitive in football. You're in and you're out.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Now, Orm's gonna have a really good team this year.
They're probably going to be up there for a state championship.
That's a team to look out for. The two teams
that I love the most, that I want to talk
about the most. Show me all the Morgan and Mantai
games as possible. Those two teams are going to be great.
Morgan and Mantai. Watch out for those two teams homegrown,

(11:57):
that's right. Well, I don't know about Morgan, but allegedly yeah,
it's I don't know. I wish they would do something
about it, because it's a great point.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
If a kid in his own boundaries is like, I
feel like I have to go to another school if
I want to participate in this sport. Yeah, that's a problem.
It's one thing. If there are just other kids in
your boundary that are better, then you're not gonna you know,
that's that's life. But come on, it just doesn't make
any sense, right.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
I'm venturing to get Kirk Chambers on the line right now. Yeah,
trying to get him.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
I shot him a message yesterday trying to figure out
what times are going to work for him. He's a
busy guy, but head coach of the Provo High Bulldogs
that we're going to be calling the game on Friday
night for of course, former Stanford and NFL offensive lineman.
So a lot of good things that we could have
a chat with him about and hopefully we can get
him on for tomorrow's program. Unless he hits me back
and says, yeah, give me a call.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
I'll tell you what. I started my prep for Provo
on Friday night. My prep. Provo's gonna be damn good.
That's what That's what I found out.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
And if you look at that region, Jordan, that region
is wide open.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
There's not a team that stands out that says this
team is going to dominate it unless it is Provo.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
I'm a little worried about Green Canyon. I don't know
if there's not a not a ton of It's a
new school, so I don't know what to about them.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
Not only that, but I don't know if I should
divulge that type of information. There's a certain donor that
has a lot of money that puts a lot of
money into Green Canyon Athletics up there.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Okay, and.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
That's good to know.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
You don't have to name it. I don't know if
he wants me to.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Yeah, that's fine, that's.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
But yeah, well maybe he does because his name's on
the side of the freaking practice facility.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
I think it's fair.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Former owner of the Reale Salt Lake soccer team.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Oh seriously, an owner of this radio station right here. Yeah,
he's a Cash County guy.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
He loves his Cash County football, so he supports high
school football.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Green Canyon is his school choice up there. Nice.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Well, that's that's cool.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
So yeah, that's something to look out for.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
But yeah, they do have a big old practice facility
and it's the the Broadway Media Practice Broadway Media Practice Facility. Yeah, exactly,
Thank you, sir. Please keep signing our Jackson. Thank you,
We appreciate it. Nine to sixteen this morning, Thursday, August
the fourteenth. That's kind of your rundown of high school
football right now, in terms of like teams that we're

(14:27):
going to expect to be good. I think Crimson Cliffs
is obviously going to be another team won the state
championship last year in their classification from Saint George. They're
the brand new shiny school down in Saint George. It
used to be Desert Hills, it used to be Pine View.
Now it's gone all the way to Crimson Cliffs and
they're the brand new shiny school that ever all the
good kids, all the good football players are going to

(14:49):
go to. So watch out for Crimson Cliffs from that division,
that classification, Provo is going to be great.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Timpanogas might have a good team.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
We'll have Timpanogas in West Than week two for our
Friday Night Lights showcase right here on the fan as well.
That's a little bit of a look at your high
school football scene at the moment in time.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
And we will.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Continue to bring you the latest around high school sports
and try and get you update on that UHSA and
the different open enrollment things and talk to people who
know a little bit more about the situation with everything
that's happened in the last ten years or so surrounding
high school sports.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
I'll divulge this. We're not going to get a lot
of answers. We've tried to reach out to various high
like to people that are involved in high school athletics.
It's like pulling teeth to get information. It's brutal. So
if we're not getting callbacks on like credentials, I don't
know if we're going to get callbacks on Hey, why
haven't you alleged? Like why haven't you taken care of

(15:49):
this issue? Yeah, it's the Deloy Hansen Practice Facility, nice
or athletics Development Center something like that. Is it Like
it's a separate field house with like basketball courts.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
And separate field house with Yeah, I don't know if
it's basketball. I think there's turf probably yeah. Oh yeah,
like a full on practice facility.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Oh that's that's impressive.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Yeah wow.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
You know that's good stuff right there, Like invest in
these kids that want to get developed as athletes, and
and why not do it in your hometown to make
a difference, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
It's good stuff. So that's Green Canyon.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
They'll be at Provo coming up on Friday nine eighteen
this Thursday, August the fourteenth.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Appreciate you being along for the ride.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
We're live in our Salt Lake City Studios on Bryce
and Bianucci for hour three of the program. Right here
on one of three nine and ninety eight three ESPN

Utah on one of three nine and ninety eight three

ESPN The Fan. Our friend from California that just texted in,
I think he's a Rams fan. No, I don't think
he's locked into the Rams Texas back again.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
If I were from California, if I were to guess statistically,
it's probably a forty nine Ers, probably a Niners fan,
Raiders fan, or yeah, probably a Niner, I'd go, statistically speaking,
Niners fan.

Speaker 3 (17:17):
Actually, the Rams might be on the bottom of that list,
because it'd probably go Niners Raiders, then the Chargers they
were in San Diego, Yeah, maybe, and then the Rams.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Because it's been a minute since it's.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
True, but the Rams have been so good, I wonder
if they're they have to be like fan base wise
picking some people up.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Yeah, in the state of California.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Yeah, all right, you're home of the Los Angeles Rams
here in the state of Utah, right here on one

little bit more so, more major League baseball coming your way.

be back right here on Bryson b Nucci one of three, nine,
ninety eight three ESPN.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Listening to Bryson bia Nucci on one oh three nine
at ninety eight three ESPN The Fan. Tell move the
Bryson bia Nucci podcast. Wherever you get your podcast today, True.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Bryson via Nucci our number three.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
We appreciate you, the listener, for being with us on
a Thursday edition, one day closer to your weekend, and
we're here to get you through that commute. We appreciate
your text messages on the text in line this morning
at eight seven seven three five three zero seven hundred.
Any topic you want to get into, just hit us
up on that text in line, whether it's Major League baseball.

(19:08):
We're talking a lot of high school sports today, as
the high school football season begins tonight, actually with a
game or two that it's on a Thursday night. Then
you've got more action on Friday. And I believe I've
seen some Saturday games this year for some high school
that's a whole nother discussion. If you're a parent, are
you hyped up about the Saturday high school football games

(19:31):
that are taking place this year?

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Depends if you have other if you have other kids,
if you have other kids playing sports, doing dance, Probably
not busy Saturdays.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Yeah, So maybe our earlier question doesn't apply to some
of you. Maybe your your weekend is already booked full.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
Yeah. Not everybody is just living life. It's right, like
we are.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
That's right.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
Nothing's on. I guess I'll just sit here.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Yes, nothing's on, I'm said, just stare at the ceiling
over here.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
I'll be honest with you. I mean, yesterday I went
to a movie by myself. It was great, it was
pretty It was pretty good. Which movie weapons? Have you
heard of this? No?

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Oh, it's scary as hell. There was one in a
million chaps that i'd heard of. The movie that was
about to come out of your mouth.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
It's a horror movie. Okay, get this. This is a
good movie. I highly now it's scary. I recommend it.
But for those that are going to take me up
on this, it is it is scary, like really frightening.
So it opens up at a like second grade teacher
or something like that, goes to school. One of her

(20:40):
kids shows up, the rest of her classes disappeared.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Oh you know what, I think I've seen the preview
for this one.

Speaker 4 (20:47):
It was spooky.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
What do weapons have to do with it? Or is
that the spoiler?

Speaker 4 (20:53):
Uh? Yeah, kind of a spoiler. I mean it's not
really like there's a reference to like weapon I children
essentially Okay, but but that's not really a spoiler.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Gotcha?

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Now what weapons? Not? Honestly to be totally not a
great name for the movie. Could have been better. That's
my only real complaint. It was it was scary. It
was scary, oh gruesome at times, but yeah it was.
So My point being is like, did I make a
mistake not having children? I did get to see a
pretty good horror movie by myself.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Yesterday, but there you go.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
I won't have anyone to take care of me when
I'm very old.

Speaker 3 (21:27):
You can get in on the question that we put
out there on Twitter, that question, not that question, but
a different question.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
What are you going to do this weekend?

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Your last weekend available with no college football until we
get to next weekend where it's I mean, we're talking
week zero all the way to the super Bowl in February,
where you're gonna have some busy weekends of football. What
are you gonna do with your last free weekend? At
Larson Sports on Twitter or x L A R s
O N Sports. You could also check it out at
ESPN the Fan on x Now. Some other things that

(21:58):
I do want to to bring you out to speed
with mentioned high school football Friday night, seven pm, Provo
High School taken on Green Canyon. Let's shift over and
tell you a little bit about what's going on around
Major League Baseball at this moment in time. But before
we do that, there was a text message. That's where
I was getting to. I did forget. That's why I

(22:19):
went in the high school football team. One more text
message on high schoo football thing joining you want to
read us that text message do.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
I I bought up here. This one says a great show,
enjoy your sense of humor, mixture of sports on my commute.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Great way to get us to read the text.

Speaker 4 (22:34):
Man, We've never read this without that you do. Board
of Education should have power to address this issue that
we were talking about, the transfer issue, also the cost
issue we were talking about. But I think they get
too much pressure from influential parents. I think that's true.
You like how it should I should I be responding
in real time? Yeah, I don't read text messages. You

(22:55):
usually do this, so I'm responding in real time to
the text messages. This is one of the problems with UTAH.
Says there they are more concerned with giving parents more
control and letting it be wide open versus exerting some control.
This at the opening of the UTAH. This is interesting.
At the opening of the Utah State Board of Education
meeting this year, one member was to give an inspirational thought. Instead,

(23:16):
she spoke about the danger of communism and applauded Joe McCarthy.
She said that we need to address communism in the
halls of our schools. That's why you have students going
wherever they want. You're not wrong, you may not be wrong.
There maybe a little some some inadequacy, uh there at
the top.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
And to that, my two cents are a little bit
of control at least over high school sports could could
be warranted in this situation.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
No, Bryce, it's a choice.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
You either no control or it's communism.

Speaker 3 (23:52):
A little maybe a little bit of oversight, just a
little bit, you know, just a some code transfer, make it,
make it more what do we like to call, oh
parody in sports, That's that's what we love to see.
And especially when there's kids that are working their butts
off at two a days and they know, yeah, you know,
like what I experienced. I knew going into that season

(24:15):
my senior year that we were just going to get
rolled over by Timpview and different teams because it's just
super teams that were putting. And that was even before
all of this movement, and it was you were able
to do it.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
You know who liked parody, Vladimir Lenin, That's who liked parody.
You call me.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Stalin the NFL.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
Why because there's there's perception of parody, Jordan.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
It is funny we do.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
There's a perception of parody.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
There is. There used to be some real I felt,
you know, at times there were some real parody in
the NFL. Not so much anymore.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
Any given week, Jordan, my Falcons could beat the Chiefs
if Patrick Mahomes sitting on the sideliness hurt.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
That's why you're a card carrying member of the Communist Party.
You know, my first week at uv U that you know,
they when I was in college, like as a freshman,
they have the tables set up in the big hallway
there for all the different clubs, and they had it
was called the Revolutionary Student Union or something, and it
was basically, uh, a student led group of communists who

(25:27):
were like trying to overthrow capitalism in a sense in college,
like just in the hallway, yeah, just handing out the buttons.
They had buttons like really well designed. You get the
hammer in the what do you call it the sickle.
This relates to our our our, our conversation.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
With I'm waiting to see.

Speaker 4 (25:49):
That's what college is about, though, Like you can say
that's stupid, it's naive, it's it's very idealistic, it's silly,
whatever you're you know, Yeah, probably it is naiven, idealistic,
and maybe it's dumb. That's why you go to college, though,
is to like experience that and to come across new ideas.

(26:10):
And that's part of I think what the coach of Beniu,
that's part of his point when he's like, you know,
the degree you get and the college experience you have
is valuable. It's more valuable than on nil money and
some in a lot of cases. And I think he's right.
It's kind that's part of it.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
You're telling me that as your frontal lobe develops, it's
always good to, you know, maybe get some fresh perspectives
from other people. Yeah, figure out how you're going to
deal with certain.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
Things that might help you in life. Okay, interesting thought,
Well you're wrong, let's move on. I did get a
button though, and it was pretty It was pretty cool button.
I wish I still had it.

Speaker 3 (26:49):
That's funny anyway, that's our discussion on high school sports.
Definitely when a different direction at that point in time.
That's our discussion on the way that high school sports
are running different states versus the state of Utah, and
the way that transferring now is just wide open. Like
they made it cool before the NCAA made it cool

(27:10):
here in the state of Utah. That that's really what happened,
Like Utah was the pathway for college athletics to turn
into the transfer portal.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
You tell us the model, that's.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
The way it looks like it because these kids, man,
they're just jumping from school to school. Like I was
just we were talking. There was a prob high school
quarterback a couple of years ago, won the region. Yeah,
ended up at tempt you the next year. Now he's
at I don't know if he's at a different school now, but.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
Was he not a senior last year?

Speaker 2 (27:39):
That's a great question. I have to go look because.

Speaker 4 (27:42):
The goodness for prob provo real quick, they have that
orchard to get it back. Yeah, for a second year
at quarterback.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
There we go.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
That's why they could be Do they have any of
the d Martini Brothers' right? Those d Martinis man touchdown
scoring machines at pro high school.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
That's right, and proud, proud members of the Italian American community.
I assume, I hope they are shout out.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
There, you go, all right, let's shift over to Major
League Baseball because we're done with the high school. Unless
you hit us with another text message. We'll address it though,
eight seven seven. Then the compliment. First, we'll get to that.
The New York Mets, Jordan being Itchie. Something happened with
the New York Mets last night, and I assume and
by the way, we were talking about Pete Alonzo breaking

(28:30):
the home run record. Someone some cranky Yankee fan tweeted out, well,
if Derek Jeter played for the Mets, his two hundred
and sixty home runs would be number one in Mets history.
But he's not even in uh, he's number ten. He's
not even in the top five of Yankees histories in
home runs for the franchise.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
Okay, cool.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
Someone Clote tweeted it yesterday, so shout out. I never
have their handles. I wish I could properly reviewed this.
Someone quote tweeted it and said Derek Jeeter also had
triple the plate appearances as pedalans.

Speaker 4 (29:09):
Yeah, Pete Alonso's gonna break that. I think also he
has to. I don't know, I don't know. I would
think so that's Yankees fans. That's why Mets fans hate
Yankees fans. Like, what's your problem?

Speaker 3 (29:26):
I think that's why the rest of Major League Baseball
doesn't like the New York Yankees or their fan base.

Speaker 4 (29:32):
Yeah, like, what what is your what do you get
in that? What?

Speaker 2 (29:35):
What's the issue?

Speaker 3 (29:36):
I would put I don't know, like the Phillies, Phillies fans,
any Philadelphia sports franchise fans right up there. Then like
the New York Yankees. I think the Lakers fans are
probably in that discussion. And since Lakers fans are also
Dodgers fans, you could also say the Dodgers as well.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
Now, only as of late t that fans point. The
Mets have had very few sluggers obviously that have hit
a lot of home runs with the Mets, because they
I've looked up the list just now, they have the
third as far as like guys on their team with
the most home runs. Yeah, they have the third fewest. So,
Peter Alonzo, you mentioned two hundred and fifty four home
runs with the Mets. Only two other teams in the

(30:17):
league in they're both in the National League have players
with fewer home runs, but are still there franchisees home
run leader. Do you know those two teams?

Speaker 2 (30:29):
Well, yeah, hmm do I know them?

Speaker 4 (30:32):
I mean you could probably guess, but only two two
and they're they're I'll just they're in the National League
and they're they're in the NL West.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Oh wow? Is it the Diamondbacks?

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Yeah, Luis Gonzales two hundred and twenty four. That's second
to last.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
Wow, you're not gonna believe second to last. Two d
and twenty four.

Speaker 4 (30:50):
You're never gonna second to last. Yeah, actually the last one,
You're not even You're never gonna believe it. This is crazy, actually,
if I think about it, the Padres. Yeah. Guess who
it is though?

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Is it hold On hold On Current? Yeah? Oh boy?
Is it Tatis?

Speaker 4 (31:03):
No, it's Manny Machado.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
How many does he have?

Speaker 4 (31:06):
One hundred and eighty seven home runs? The Potters have
been a team since like nineteen sixty nine.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
So let me ask you a stupid question.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
I'm gonna sound really stupid asking this question, but maybe
there's other people that have the same question.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
They're listening to this conversation.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Yeah, are these home runs that are hit in a
Padres uniform for Manny Machado? Correct, Okay, so they don't
count other obviously, because that wouldn't make sense.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
They don't. They don't roll any over.

Speaker 4 (31:30):
For instance, like the Mets, Peter Alonzo has that record,
but if they counted others, Willie Mays would because he
played a year with the Mets.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
Okay, so you know he hit six sixty Okay, Okay, yeah, yeah,
so that wouldn't make sense. It's these in a uniform. Okay,
So Manny Machada has hit one hundred and one hundred
and eighty seven seven. That's amazing.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
When when did he pass that?

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Because I don't remember hearing that, and maybe there's a
reason why we don't remember hearing that.

Speaker 4 (31:59):
Oh I don't know when he did it, but I
can put it. I'll book up pottery home run leaders
for you. Uh, that's you gotta think. Remember he played
with the Orioles for multiple years, played with the Dodgers
for what a year? Half a year? That's pretty wild
to think about how few home runs they fit. Number two,

(32:21):
you're never gonna get good Lord, the Potterys. This is
the poor whenever. If anyone gets sick of the Potterys,
by the way, just remember this conversation. This is how
bad the Potteris have been for the most, for most
of their existence. Their number two home run leader.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Let me wait, I guess with that low of numbers.

Speaker 4 (32:42):
He hit, I won't tell you who it is. He
hit one hundred and sixty three.

Speaker 3 (32:45):
Yeah, with that low of numbers, I'm gonna go with
Jake Peevey. The picture that that is that he's number three. Actually, okay,
all right, Nate Colbert never at all.

Speaker 4 (32:57):
He's a good He's a pretty good player too. Well,
he's a that's the thing. He's an ok player. Two
forty three, played in the played in the sixties and seventies.
That's that is amazing. Adrian Gonzales is number three.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
He played a lot of his career with the Dodgers
and the Red Sox, right end. Yeah, yeah, yeah, So
that's that's brutal. But the Mets, they do, they do
have the fewest home runs for a franchise that's been
around longer because they started in sixty two. Okay, so
the pottery started in sixty nine, I believe, and then

(33:34):
the diamonbag started in ninety eight.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Yeah, so that makes sense. Yeah, So who's okay?

Speaker 4 (33:39):
So I'll give you the number one is the Braves
because of Henry Aaron And then who do you have
on that list?

Speaker 2 (33:45):
Yeah, Chipper Jones.

Speaker 4 (33:46):
Well who's nex I don't have that list. I'm saying teams.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Oh sorry, sorry, I thought we were going down the
Atlanta Braves that I could go down.

Speaker 4 (33:55):
I could find that for you.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
That's okay. Number one is the Braves because of Henry
areon number two.

Speaker 4 (34:02):
Pretty odd. You could guess this one.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
We were just talking.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
Oh the New York Yankees. Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
They've got a lot of dudes. Number three.

Speaker 4 (34:16):
Chicago Cubs, no good, they are seventh. I think Giants
are three.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
Mays hit six hundred and forty six Barry Bonds of
his six sixty with no Yeah, with the Giants, but
Mazes good bonds.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Yeah, with the Giants.

Speaker 4 (34:34):
That's a good question. I'll pull that up because.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
I want to say the majority of his with the Giants, absolutely,
because he was it's just a little dude with the Pirates.

Speaker 4 (34:45):
Yeah, but he hit a lot of you hit a
fair amount of home runs he did with the Pirates.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Obviously, Pirates greatest farm league team in all of Major
League Baseball.

Speaker 4 (34:55):
Five eighty six he hit with the Giants. Bonds five
eighty and you hit seven fifty six overall.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
Prepping dudes to win World Series with other franchises since
nineteen eighty.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
Six, he did not win a World Series.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
By the way, Barry Bonds didn't win a World Series.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
No went, you went to one World Series in his career.
They were eight outs away from winning a World Series.
We can get into that game six in Anaheim. Yeah,
eight outs, five run lad it didn't work out. Uh,
you'll never guess who won two.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Three.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
Fourth on this list is we're talking players that have
hit the most home runs in a in a team's uniform.
Atlanta Braves, Henry Aaron's number one, Yankees Babe Ruth Willie
Mays Giants three, number four. Which guy hit the most
home runs in one uniform?

Speaker 3 (35:53):
David Ortiz, Big Poppy with the Boston Red Sox. Harmon
kill a Brew with the Twins. Wow, I mean it
shouldn't but yeah, you don't think about that.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
By the way, do you see the Twins they were
gonna sell the team here and then they got their
valuation back. Now, yeah, we won't sell the team.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
No, I didn't see that.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Yeah, they've decided not to sell the team. They're going
to sell some some parts of it, some minorities.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
So they're gonna sell it over. Is Rodriguez already an owner.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
He's owner of the Timberwolves, and I think he wanted
to buy them, but they know They're like, no, we're
not going to sell.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Them, so maybe we'll give you ten percent. Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 4 (36:30):
By the way, I gotta get this stating we're talking
about how brutal the Pottery's existence has been.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Uh huh.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
This the Potteries are a game up on the Dodgers.
It is August fourteenth. This is the latest the Dodgers.
Excuse me, this is the latest in the season. The
Potteries have been in first place since two thy ten. Wow,
that's think about the good teams the Potteries have had

(36:57):
the last few years. Never been in first place is
late in the season.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
It's been a minute. Huh. Yeah, that's incredible. Uh, we
have some braves and Mets.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
Yeah, speaking of brutal, Yeah, Mets lost seven of eight.
Uh had they came out strong last night though, Bryce
a six to nothing lead in the second in the
in the second inning we get to the fourth still
six to nothing, Braves explode for nine runs I believe
in the inning, including this go ahead grand slam because.

Speaker 5 (37:31):
This pitching staff continues to issue the most walks of
any team in the league.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
Who was the case for most of last year too.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
Oh if the center field hid well, back goes Bullers
to the warning track at the wall, it's out, It's
out of here. It's a grand slam to Michael Harris
and the Braves take the league nine to six.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (38:03):
Then on the Mets, the Braves were scoring nine runs
in the fourth act.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
My favorite part of that entire clip here it is, Oh,
you are a fan listening on the radio, and that's
the first thing he hears.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Oh, you hear the crack of the bat. And then oh, I.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
Should be sorry, I should have introduced that better. That's
the Mets television. Okay, so they weren't on the route
butt but yes, oh that's s n Y. Yeah that's right.
I'm pretty sure that's Ron Darling going, Oh, just a
just a shot to the heart.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
Nine runs in the fourth. That might be the most
the Braves are scored in any inning this season. If
I'm being honest with you.

Speaker 4 (38:49):
It could be. It could be. Even when the Mets
are really a good team, they still give us great
content in regard to like them just blowing giant leads.
They're really entertaining. Be honest with you, that's just a.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah, that's a tough night for the Mets.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
So where they where are they at in the Wildcard?

Speaker 5 (39:14):
Now?

Speaker 4 (39:14):
I'm pulling it up here because the Phillies in the division,
they're starting to run away. They're five games up in
the division. So in the wild Card, the Mets they're
losing ground here. Obviously, the Mets are one game up
on the Reds for that last wild card spot, so
that we're gonna watch a lot of Dodgers Podreys this weekend,
Mets and Reds like. That's something to keep an eye on.

(39:35):
And if the Mets lose this, it will be it'll
be an.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Epic yeah collapse. Oh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
We make fun of the Mariners. Mariners probably aren't going
to do what we think they're going to do. If
the Mets end up falling out, that'll give us some
good content right there.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
Sign Wan Soo. All that payroll in first place. And
also there are three wild cards. You just need three
of them, you need one.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
All right, Let's take a quick break here. We'll come
back on the other side, give you the top headlines
from around the world of sports, and we will wrap
up a Thursday edition of the program.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
How about that.

Speaker 3 (40:11):
You're listening to Bryce and Bianucci right here on one
of three nine and ninety eight three ESPN the Fan.
All right, getting ready to wrap up this Thursday. Join

(40:32):
us tomorrow is gonna be a star studded, jam packed show.
As we talk with Jared Sumption, the athletic director over
at Utah Valley University, about his new thirty million dollars
soccer stadium, we'll have ribbons cut lou.

Speaker 4 (40:47):
Sounds like it's his apartment where he's living.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Look, if I was him, I would I would have
built myself a nice little suite at the.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
End of it. Don't you think it'd be cool. I've always,
since I've been a kid, had this fantasy of like
having an apartment in like at Oracle Park yea, or
like at PNC Park where you just live and then
you go to your window.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
You have a little pet coat.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
Yeah, exactly, and you just lived there.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
It's funny because I was watching that Padres Red Sox
series over last weekend and the Padres broadcast kept showing
a dude that's up in his apartment that overshadows overhangs
Petco Park, and he holds up signs every night for
the broadcast, and they're actually pretty funny. I forgot what
the sign said right now, but he was making fun

(41:32):
of the color commentator, the color commentator that was doing
the games, because he has a TV out there so
you can hear what they're saying. So he would hold
up the signs and he was making fun of that's funny.
The broadcast grew and they kept zooming in on him.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
It was good. It's funny.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
I'd be a great that'd be a great place to live.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
Toronto has hotel rooms, yeah, that you can go and
get and you can watch the game on the balcony
of the hotel room.

Speaker 4 (41:55):
So there's no there's not even a balcony. It's literally like,
open up the window. I don't even know. Yeah, yeah,
you can't open up because I did see a video.
So you can open up the window and just you're
in the outfield, you can see it. That's awesome, that's
really cool. Bristol Motor Speedway. If I'm not mistaken, I
think Bristol Motor Speedway. Is it Bristol or is it Talladega?
One of the motor speedways has like condos or hotel

(42:17):
rooms as well, apartments, condos, hotel rooms.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
But you can you better love Nascar. Yeah, any type
of race and don't schedule that one on like there's
just like some stock car race there. It's not even Nascar.
You just didn't realize it.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
You're in for one. You're in for one. If that's
the case, how many hours of that?

Speaker 3 (42:40):
I do a couple of things that I want to
tell you about here in terms of college football news,
the Big Twelve has announced that they will now do
injury reports throughout the Big Twelve season.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
So for this is for.

Speaker 3 (42:56):
Football, men's and women's basketball, all league games, so not
non conference games, all league games. In conference games, each
team's gonna have to place a injury report essentially for
each one of these games. And there's a couple of
different designations that they can be or can't be. I

(43:18):
think Utah fans would have loved this just a couple
of years ago.

Speaker 4 (43:20):
Yeah, I would have loved it a couple of years ago.
Kyle Whittingham should have liked it, because then he could
have just been would have had to answer another question.

Speaker 2 (43:27):
That's true. That is true. Maybe the coaches are gonna
love it coming up here.

Speaker 3 (43:31):
Maybe they won't because they like the competitive advantage of
not saying their status and having the opposing team have
to prepare for him.

Speaker 4 (43:39):
But here's the problem with this. So you have give
me your statuses for football. Do you have them in
front of you?

Speaker 2 (43:44):
I will in two seconds.

Speaker 4 (43:46):
You have available, probable, questionable, doubtful, and then out. Okay,
here's my thing. Who's going to enforce.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
This and what's going to be the penalty if a
team lies about it?

Speaker 4 (43:58):
Yeah? Like, I just don't I like the idea. I
don't know what the like, what is going to stop
a team from just saying dude's doubtful all week and
then he plays yeah you know, I don't know, or
or a dude you know. More importantly, Bruce, like we
were talking about like Cam Raising saying a guy that's
you know, he's going to be out, and you're like, no,
he's doubtful or questionable and then now he's out, Who's

(44:21):
who's who's Yeah, who's policing this?

Speaker 3 (44:24):
And it's not like you know the Atlanta Falcons where
Kirk Cousins goes and gets a little bit of treatment
and then they put him on for one day, take
him off, and then they get doctor a draft pick. Yeah, right,
what are they going to get docked? Doctor scholarship? I mean,
you're gonna find them two undred fifty thousand dollars. I
think some teams would take the fine.

Speaker 4 (44:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Maybe if you're Kansas, you just got three hundred million dollars.
You could just spend a little bit of that. So
it will be interesting to follow along and see how
teams and the way that coaches and teams go about
doing all of this. But that's not only in the
Big Twelve. I think the ACC came out and said

(45:02):
that they were going to do it too. Did the
SEC do it?

Speaker 4 (45:05):
I thought the Big Ten might be doing it too.
I could be wrong.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
Yeah, I believe the Big Ten started last year. Potentially,
ACC came out said that they're going to do it.
I don't know about the SEC, but I could be
mixing them up as well. One other thing I do
want to let you in on Bud Elliott from CBS
College Football. His playoff prediction has Utah in the College

(45:28):
Football Playoff out of the Big Twelve, the only school
out of the Big Twelve conference as an eight seed
taking on nine seeded Oregon. Wow, that would be a
home college football playoff game with Oregon back in town, Jordan.

Speaker 4 (45:41):
That'd be a great game. That'd be really fun that Yeah,
that would be all. That would be fantastic. I don't know.
The Big Twelve is going to be interesting. I'm not
is it going to be like last year? Or are
we going to actually get some front runners that we
think are going to be good?

Speaker 5 (45:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (45:56):
In there, he's got Boise State. Is this group of
five team in there play Alabama on the road at Bama?
That'd be crazy. Watch out for Penn State this year.
It sounds like everybody's high on Penn State. You think
Penn State has what it takes actually win a national
championship though Drew Aler's quarterback.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
No, because they I mean they'll get to the semi
finals and then Franklin will lay an egg. No, I

along for the ride. Right here on, Bryce would be Anucci.
