two point nine the game and today'sepisode of The Bux Report. We talk
about the injuries. I guess injuriesare going to be the biggest concern for
me with a box. It isgoing to be Baker Mayfield versus famous Jamis
Winston. That is what they're sayingas I record this at nine Local.
We'll talk about injury concern, keysto victory, and ultimately what went wrong
(02:02):
with Bucks vers versus the Eagles. In today's episode, we are happy to
have Rick Hughes on the show.Rick, Welcome to the show. Hey,
how are you. I'm doing prettygood. So we played the game
against the Eagles and they lost. There was moments that it was closed.
I thought, you know that momentthat Devin White intercepted it and then I'm
(02:23):
like, oh, that's right. He has that groin that's all messed up
and he had to get out. That was the glimpse that I thought there
was a chance that they were goingto be able to do it, but
Jail and Hurts and the Eagles weretoo much for the Bucks. For you,
what went wrong with the Bucks versusthe Eagles? All? Right,
So, honestly, I don't knowthat anything went wrong. You're going to
(02:43):
get an honest opinion here. Idon't know that anything went wrong with things
went as they should have. TheEagles are an elite team. The Bucks
right now are not. We hopethey become one, but things went as
they should have. Now, Idon't I'm not saying that like I like
it, and I'm not saying thatlike I'm happy about it. That the
things that need to be improved onare fairly obvious. Look, we've got
(03:08):
to figure out how to run theball. And everybody who's ripping on Dave
Canalis for sticking with the run,I think you're dead wrong. I think
Dave Canalis is absolutely right for beingstubborn about the run. We need to
be able to run the ball.We absolutely need to be able to run
the ball. And in the fourthquarter in those first two games, you
(03:30):
saw why when you keep pounding theball in the fourth quarter, you can
control the clock. You guys, remember when Jamis was our quarterback and how
it was a it was a itwas just a circus. Okay, you
(03:50):
never knew. I mean the fourthquarter crunch time, you know, to
try to get a first down,you're you know, you're you're you're ending
up with a pick six or ithappened time and time and time and time
again. Now we've got an offensethat pounds the ball, pounds the ball,
pounds the ball, and if ifwe have the lead, it pays
(04:15):
off. In the fourth quarter,We've got to have the lead. And
yeah, that's the key to everythingis we are built to be up by
three points in the fourth quarter. If we can be up by three,
we're good, We're gold. Ifwe have to get to that point and
(04:38):
against the team like the Eagles, that's difficult. I think it's different this
week. Yeah, it'll be interesting. But pean that we're talking about the
run game here. One of thethings that's being said is that maybe you
know, Rashad White isn't as advertisedthat you know, he's overthinking it and
he can't punch it through the holebecause he's overthinking it. So already the
(04:59):
rumor mill is circul lading out thereabout what running back should they try to
acquire? Is there enough? Imean, you take a look, there's
Keyshawn Vaughan and the other options thatare available. Are Are you concerned about
Rashad White as running back? Doyou think that he's going to come into
his own or do you think thathe is not quite as good as everyone
perceived? Why I never thought hewas great. I think we don't have
(05:23):
that kind of a running game.I don't think we have, you know,
again, elite running back, soexpecting him to be elite's probably not
going to happen. I don't thinkwe need to go get one. This
is when you look at the Eagles. They stockpiled draft picks, They built
(05:45):
up their lines. They have onboth sides of the ball. Their line
is amazing, and us, youknow, we we're okay, but we
don't have the depth. You know, when Collagi Cancy's out, when you
know, when you're losing people thatare critical, you don't have the depth
(06:06):
to fall back. Imagine if wehad, you know, another first rounder
on the offensive line and another firstrounder on the defensive line. I don't
want to go give up draft capitalor anything to get a running back to
(06:28):
help us through this year. Andthen you're just I'm tired of pay him
down the road. I'm tired ofpaying down the road. I want to
start stalking up draft picks. Idon't want to go the other way around
and stop wasting them on quarterbacks forgosh, because they never used anyway.
I mean, they spent one onJamis Winston and he and then trask that
(06:48):
you know, it is a bitof a difficult thing. But for you
right now, is Rashad White runningback one or do you think they have
another Vibal option? No, he'sHarby one. Get one game. That
was really bad the first two games. It really wasn't him. He looked
bad. Last game. You wereplaying the number one rush defense. All
(07:10):
right, I think things are gonnabe a little bit different this week.
You'll see some things a little bitdifferent. Dave Canalis is also learning how
to call an offense. There's alot of growth and that's that's taking place
right now. There's a lot ofpeople learning how to do their jobs.
And we're tied for first while they'relearning how to do their jobs. That's
(07:31):
not a bad position to be in, you know. There there's Dave Canalis
is gonna learn how to call playsbetter, when to call them, what
to do, And you're gonna see, you're gonna you'll you'll see this team
the bell curve for this season's gonnabe good. It's gonna keep getting better
(07:53):
and better and better. I don'tthink you're gonna I don't think we're the
kind of team that's like, oh, later on you know, their good
teams are going to catch up tous. I think we're set. We're
very young, we're very young, and we've got a brand new offensive coordinator.
Give us some time, new quarterback, give us some time. We'll
(08:13):
be fine. Be patient, Bepatient. It's one bad game, guys,
one bad game, only one badgame. And being that you were
talking about that, Dave Canala sayshe's going to continue to be stubborn about
running the ball and expects it tobecome more efficient. Boll says, Rashade
White tried to make too many bigplays one and you should have been grinded
(08:35):
out making too many cuts, tryingto get explosive play and make something out
of nothing. If we remember backon Rashad White, he was that studious
running back that Tom Brady said.He was the guy that brought the notebook
to practice and put in all thework. And you know, I had
high hopes, and you know there'salready talks out there, and I'm not
trying to you know, bash RashadWhite. I think that you know,
(08:58):
like you said, he could comeinto it into his own. Here is
that they're already talking about potential freeagent options or players that aren't, you
know, trades that kind of thing. And I've heard something intriguing about should
the Bucks try to bring back LeonardFournett. He's not currently tied to any
team, but he's not going tocome cheap, and he was overweight and
(09:20):
not as good last year, andRashad White beat him out last year,
So why would you bring back aguy that last year the current guy was
better that. I think it wasBucks Nation I saw that. Yeah,
yeah, why would you do that? I mean, I get people fall
in love with names. I thinkyou can look at certain people who have
(09:45):
who've built a reputation, have builta name. Tom Brady, let me
tell you something. They'd rather haveBaker Mayfield than Tom Brady as my quarterback
right now. And that's not mebashing tom Brady. Tom Brady is the
greatest of all time. Okay,I'm not bashing tom Brady. I'm just
trying to be realistic. I'm tryingto be realistic and say Tom Brady didn't
(10:09):
want to play that last year. You know, he was afraid to step
up in the pocket. It's hardto have a pocket passer who won't step
up in the pocket. Yeah, but you fall in love with a name
because they're so used to them beinggreat. We're used to the name Leonard
Fournette, not Rashard White. RareShart White beat him out last year.
(10:33):
That's hard for people to to reallygrow comfortable with. Listen, we also
have an offensive line where we've shuffled, we've moved people around, we've got
rookies, we've got new again.Just like the rest of the team.
It's gonna get better as the yeargoes along. So you don't you don't
make a rash decision because the Eagleskicked your butt. They're gonna kick a
(10:56):
lot of people's butt this year. They did last year they were in the
Super Bowl. So don't yet decisionsbased on that, please, you know.
But if we take a look atit here, I mean, just
taking a look at the standings alone, there is the very real possibility that
(11:16):
the Buccaneers could be in first placein the NFC South. They're taking on
the Saints. The Falcons, Idon't think are all that and the Panthers
are one three. So there area lot of questions. And you know,
again, everyone was drinking the creamsiclekool aid when the Bucks take down
the Vikings and they took down theBears. I ultimately still think that Baker
(11:37):
Mayfield and the Bucks have what ittakes. Do I think that they're going
to win a Super Bowl? I'mnot going to go ahead and etch their
name in it that if you will, but I do think that they have
a potential of making it to theplayoffs. Is that going to be a
reality. I guess it remains tobe seen, all right, So coming
up here after the break, wewill talk about injury concerns for the Bucks.
(11:58):
That is my biggest concern. Who'sgoing to be on the field when
they play Sunday. We'll talk aboutthat next. Oh hey everyone, I'm
(12:41):
not a person to reach out forhelp a tongue, but I am in
need. My son is being heldby his father and they're making really heinous
claims that are untrue and very painful, and I need to be able to
(13:05):
fight this. Follow the link inthe description below, and please, if
you can either way contribute or share, or just send prayers like our family
would be so appreciative of any helpthat you can offer. Go Bucks.
(13:31):
All right, and welcome back intothis edition of the Box Report. Just
a personal thing going through a custodything with my step son. So if
you can help out in any way. Lawyers are expensive, all right.
In this next segment here we aregoing to talk about injury concerns facing the
Bucks. That is my biggest concernas we go into this is is who's
going to be able to play.Carlton Davis it sounds like potentially could be
(13:54):
good to go, but then JamalDean is now injured. They're already talking
about the possibility of trying to signanother cornerback. How concerned are you about
the corner position if Jamal Dean andCarlton Davis are not good to go.
Rumor has it that it's trending thatCarlton Davis should be good to go.
(14:15):
Well, if he's good to go, he may not be one hundred percent
also, So I mean, howconcerned am I? Look? I just
sat here and said, don't goget another running back. Don't go get
another running back. Maybe he needto go get maybe. I mean,
this is this maybe a different situationhere where we need to get some more
depth on defense. Listen, SerbossDennis Hurt, Klijah Cancy Hurt. Are
(14:45):
we going to see these guys?I spoke with someone today that it has
former Bucks report. Uh, youguys know Joshua Cole Allen. JC Allen
said to me that he thinks maybeafter the lie week, we'll get those
guys back. That's gonna make abig difference for this defense. But guys,
(15:11):
we've got I mean, this isa big game. I am the
guy who usually said every game I'mgoing you know, people are like all
excited and amped up about the game, like the Philadelphia game, and I'm
like, simmerdown, it's not abig game. This is a big game.
This week is a big game.H. It's division. It's the
(15:35):
Saints who are going to be theteam for us to battle in the division.
This is where tiebreakers come down to. There's games like this. This
is a big game. H.I have a sneaky suspicion that, let's
say Carl and David's plays, I'vea sneaky suspicion they are going to be
(15:56):
climbing all over Jamis. Todd Bowlesknows how to coach against Jamis. If
you remember last time we played andJamis was their quarterback, that is one
of my favorite games as a Buccaneersfan. Just send Devin White after him.
But the word I kept saying wasif I could just see one pick
(16:22):
six in return where the Bucks getthe pick six from Jamos, to me,
it would just be like, Imean that that, that's just the
ultimate We got that last time,we got it. Here's a good shot.
We'll get it again it I meanit. Christian is he in running
down the field? I can,I can. I can just picture you
(16:45):
know it. Now, It's justa matter of who's gonna be the guy.
But you gotta get the feeling somebodyis gonna is gonna be the guy.
I feel really good, really goodabout what our defense is gonna do.
I am terrified about that Saints defense. They didn't allow a touchdown until
(17:07):
Jamis came in are They only allowedone touchdown. It was getting garbage minutes
in the first two games until thevery end in the of the third game,
when in the fourth quarter when theywere leading and they lost their quarterback,
and we all know what Jamis canmake a defense look like. I'm
(17:32):
hoping that's what happens again this weekbecause that's that Saints defense looks really good.
And another key to all of thisis how I wonder how growing up
Mike Evans, is I think we'regonna find out. Yeah, I mean,
and so just kind of sticking inthe vein of injuries is Vita Vea.
(17:52):
And Vita Vea is one heck ofa player, but there's one thing
about him that is a constant isthat he gets injured almost, you know,
annually. Vita Vea, who suffereda pectoral injury against the Eagles,
mispractice Wednesday and Thursday, but returnedin a limited capacity Friday. He too
is listed questionable. While it's hiscounterpart twenty twenty three first round draft pick
(18:14):
Klijah Cans, You're made sideline witha calf injury. So this kind of
is starting to remind me to anextent, and I don't want to,
you know, start shooting holes inthe side of the season with one loss,
but you know, that is wherethe season went off the rails.
Last year for me is when Jensengot injured, you know, preseason.
I'm like, are you kidding me? Is this really happening? And then
he gambled he had that stem cellprocedure done when he should have had the
(18:37):
knee surgery, and now he maynever play football again. So Vita vea
is a bit of a concern aswell. But it is interesting that you
do bring up the quarterbacks. Wetalk about Baker Mayfield and we talk about
Jamis Winston. They're not saying itone hundred percent for sure is going to
be Jamis, but it is trendingin that direction. Is they are both
(18:57):
both known for interceptions. Baker Mayfieldnot so much this season, but historically
does throw quite a bit of interceptions. Going into this game, obviously I
am going to be favoring Baker Mayfield. What are you looking for if it
is in fact going to be BakerMayfield versus famous Jamis Winston. I just
(19:19):
really think Jamis lets his emotions takeover and he's going to be very emotional
in this game, and I don'tsee him. I wanted Jamis to do
well. I really wanted Jamis todo well. And I think he's a
I think he's a good guy.He's the kind of guy. A matter
(19:40):
of fact, it's such a goodguy, you know, you know.
I wish he could do well. Not with New Orleans, but I mean
I wish he could do well. But I don't think he has it in
him to keep his emotions in checkinto. He's a goofy dude, and
he makes some weird decisions and hedoes some weird to se right. He
(20:02):
just I just can't see him keepingit together. What has he somehow magically
mystically changed in the last year.I doubt it. I think he's still
the same guy. Has Baker changedlooks like it. So taking a look
(20:22):
at stats, you know it's gonnabe a battle. It's two number one
picks and a Heisman winner trying toshed a reputation for too many interceptions.
So just talking about an interception.Since coming into the NFL in twenty eighteen,
Mayfield has sixty five interceptions, morethan any quarterback in the league,
though he now only has one morethan Bill Star Josh Allen Winston has the
(20:44):
same dubious honor as he his ninetysix career interceptions. So kind of my
big knock on Jamis Winston is Ithink that the potential is there, and
we have seen glimpses with the Saints. You know that one play where he
got called into the game and airedit out and I was like, whoa
where was this Jamis Winston when hewas on the box. Is just that's
(21:06):
his Achilles heel is the interception. If he could find a way to control
his decision making process, I thinkhe would be one of the best.
And I know that's kind of acrazy thing to say. No, we
thought glimpses of death. That's alwaysbinge games where he'll go out there and
have an amazing game, and he'llgo out there and, you know,
just throw some passes that are justlike or do some things. Remember running
(21:30):
to the first down on fourth andI don't know whatever it was twenty four
or whatever. I don't remember whatthat was forth and whatever. He does
things that are phenomenal and then heimplodes. This is what we've seen.
He's check your sheet, He's he'sballing, he's he's out there throwing it
all. He's he's Brett Farve onsteroids. It just the guy, doesn't
(21:57):
I I just think emotionally, Ijust don't think emotionally he can keep it
together. He's man. And it'ssad because he's a good Like I said,
he's a good guy. I'd loveto see him be successful in Arizona.
You know, that'd be awesome.I'd love to see him have a
(22:18):
great career in you know, goto the Jets. Okay, I mean,
I'd love to see that, butman not, I just don't see
it him being able to emotionally keepit together playing the Bucks. I just
because that's one of the things aboutBaker, I guess I gotta say,
(22:40):
is that, you know, eventhough he has the record for you know,
a lot of interceptions, he hasfound a way not to throw too
many for the Bucks. As amatter of fact, it was just the
last game he had his first interceptionthere. And one of the things that
I like about Baker over Tom Bradyis, you know, Tom Brady was
a guy the play had to developin a hurry and if he was going
to throw the football away. Peoplewere often knocking Mike Evans last year saying,
(23:04):
you know, why didn't he havemore catches is because he didn't have
a time to run his route andhe was already throwing the football away,
you know, because he didn't wantto get a correct But there a second
and a half, So that's yeah, And that's one of the things he
got a pouse in the yards lastyear when he only had a second and
a half to get the ball rightbecause everyone everyone was saying, what's wrong
(23:29):
with Mike Evans, and you know, some would say that there was a
reason that Tom Brady was in theleague for so long is because he wasn't
going to limit his you know, his hits, you know, and sometimes
he can't plan for those kind ofthings. But the thing I like about
Baker over Tom Brady is that heis a mobile quarterback that if a play
doesn't develop, he is going tobattle. Certain aspects of his game almost
remind me of Mahomes. Even whenhe's down and out, he's going to
(23:52):
try to make a sidearm pass andsometimes he connects. So yeah, yeah,
I mean, Baker I think isa lot better than a lot of
people around the NFL think. Youknow, there was a lot of laughter.
They're like, you're getting Baker onyour team. I always thought he
was kind of good. I thinkyou just think he was a victim of
circumstance. If you take a lookhe started out with the Browns. That's
where a lot of good quarterbacks goto die, see Manzelle for example.
(24:15):
So those are just off the topof my head. Now. I was
all about Baker during the off season. I wanted us to get Baker.
I think Baker has not been givena fair shot. Right, Jameis Winston
was given the keys to the kingdom. Mmm. Right, he had he
(24:40):
had the opportunity here in Tampa, and his decision making was what it was
when Baker had the keys to thefranchise. I mean, they even made
commercials about him living in the stadiumand all that. When he really had
the keys to the franchise. He'sthe only guy. He took them to
the playoffs, and they won agame, and they almost won the next
(25:03):
game with Baker at quarterback. Bakercan win in the playoffs. And then
and then what happened? He goesto Carolina. Listen, I live here
in Charlotte. The Panthers are awful. Okay, they're terrible. People look
at Baker Mayfield. I have tolaugh here because people here are like,
(25:23):
you got Baker, And I'm like, well, we have Mike Evans,
we have Chris Godwin, we haveTristan Worf's, we have I mean,
we have an offense, and bythe way, we have a defense.
So people do not want to tiein how they don't want to recognize how
(25:45):
tied the quarterback is with the defenseand how the defense is tied with the
quarterback. They tend to look pastthat. Jameis Winston made the Buccaneers defense
look bad. Tom Brady made theBuccaneers defense look much better because they're not
(26:06):
on the field on a short fieldall the time, giving up points.
Always on the field. You know, it's a whole different thing. Baker.
Let me tell you something that Ilike about this team. It was
fun with Brady. I'm so gladwe had the time with Brady. It's
something I will always remember fondly.Who who's not going to remember those just
wonderful, great, incredible days. But having said that, it was sort
(26:33):
of like the Tom Brady Show. And it's fun for me being a Buccaneers
fan since seventy six, since thosecolors and that logo you've got behind you
were that were ruled the day. It's back to being a Buccaneers fan,
not a Tom Brady fan. Withthe Buccaneers, it's the circus is left
(26:56):
town and now it's back to Itfeels like it's back to be in the
bus and I love that feeling. That's one of the things I heard them
talking about on the Loose Cannons podcastis I love the time with Brady here
and it's funny that the further weget away from Brady being here, you're
starting to hear a little bit morenegativity, especially like what I was talking
about him not allowing the place todevelop and that kind of thing. We
(27:18):
will always thank him for, youknow, helping win another Super Bowl here,
of course, but I am Iam glad that the Buccaneers have since
moved on, all right, Socoming up here after the break, there
is one storyline in this game thatI look forward to more than anything.
What is that? I'll discuss nextnews. Manscape nell sells beard products.

guard, twenty lengths. All right, welcome back into this edition of the
Box Report. So an interesting thingevery time the Buccaneers play the same it's
or in recent memory anyway, isMike Evans versus Marshawn Lattimore. Those two
compete like no one else. Andyou know, sometimes tempers boil over,
(29:11):
I know, shoving matches, Iknow all those kind of things. And
I hate Lattimore because he's so goodand I'm sure that you know the Saints
fans hate Evans because he is sogood. Talk to me a little bit
about the two of those in thelong history that they have together, and
how frustrated do you get when youwatch those two play. I don't want
to talk about it. Listen.I think I think Marshawn Latimore is deep
(29:36):
in Mike Evans head and that isnot a good thing. Mike Evins needs
to be more mature and needs tobe able to grow up and handle this,
and he doesn't. And I thinkI hope he's different. Now.
We cannot afford to have Mike Evansgone. Wasn't there a suspension if memory
(29:57):
serves Yeah, he's going to spendit twice because of this almost an exact
duplicate replay. It just Mike Evinshas got to keep it together. He
has to keep it together. Imean, if you've got to send out
somebody to do something like that, make it there are people you can have.
(30:19):
Okay, it doesn't have to beMike Evans. You know, if
you need an enforcer, find wegot some special teams, guys. But
I don't know. I mean,I want to say this, actually,
I want to say two things.Number One, I want to say your
sponsor manscaped I used the beard headge. It's great. I can tell you
(30:41):
honestly, it's great. And they'vegot something called crop Preserver. Just look
at it. I'm not gonna tellall about it, but it's your fellists
will appreciate it. Yes, thankyou very much. We want to say
this, the bye week could notcome in better time. Everybody was complaining
about our bye week, and whenthe bye week was happening, could not
(31:04):
have come at a better time forus. Yes, yeah, And they
were saying that it's a little bitdifferent this year than it is when Brady
was serious, because it was perceivedthat the Bucks were more competitive with Brady
at the helm. Of course,I mean I think that that's not,
you know, a novel thing tosay, but I do think that it
did come at it's coming at theright time. So it is difficult.
(31:26):
And you know, another player that'sgoing to be returning for the Saints is
Kamara. We were talking about dynamicrunners out there. He potentially could give
the Bucks more than they could handleas well. Always impressive. I'm you
know, I'm not a Saints fan, of course, but I am always
impressed with what he brings to thetable and to the football field. He
does not. He has not hadgreat games against the Buccaneers. Take some
(31:52):
hill scares me. I hate thatguy. I hate that guy. I
really hate that guy. I meanreal Swiss knife. Yeah yeah, he's
just he's back there and you knowit's like, oh crap, he's gonna
run. You know he's gonna run. You know what's about to happen.
