Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Buzz Buzz.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
The Buzz is on. The Buzz is on, the show
that gets you up close and personal with some of
the hottest stars. Now here's your host, Novelle Jayly.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's going on, guys.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
It's Novelle Jaylely with the Buzz cast here at Buzzworthy Radio.
And this is a special edition of our show as
we were celebrating Comic Con. We just returned from San
Diego a week ago for our second year at Comic Con,
and completely different beast than when we were there last year.
When we went for our first year in twenty three,
(00:37):
we were in the midst of a writer's strike and
an actor's strike, so it was completely different. More was
focused on the comic side, henceforth Comic Con, so it
pretty much was in essence basically what the convention is
about last year, and I had a lot of fun
last year, but this year was completely It was overwhelming,
(01:00):
but in the best way possible, and I was so
glad I got to experience it. I had a lot
of fun and I can't wait to do this again
next year. But in the meantime, we are about to
share with you our interview with Adam Rose and we
got to sit and talk with him about Huge Detective.
It is a comic noir. Yeah, that's interesting, right, where
(01:20):
a string of murders happened and a giant and a
human detective have to work together in order to solve
these mysterious murders. So Adam spoke with us about how
the concept came into play, how long did the concept take,
and we even dove a little bit more into Titan
(01:41):
comics as well as Huge Detectives. So this was great.
He was such a cool dude, and I'm so happy
to share this with you. Here it is our interview
with Adam Rose. Check it out. So, guys, I just
sat down and watched the trailer of this comic that
I'm about to talk to Adam Rose about.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Who's sitting right now.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Hello, Yes, Huge Detective, Me and Magenta King bringing the goods.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
That was I think you saw me jump when I
got to the part where the head hit Yeslexic glass, Yes,
that was.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
That was the part where I literally said, oh shit.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
That's what we want from you. No, this is beyond
It's a it's a big story, but it's at the
heart it's about like these two people having to come
together where one's a huge, a giant as big as
a skyscraper, and the others a human and they've had
a lot of issues, a lot of trauma from both
groups of beings over the last thirty years. But they
(02:40):
have to come together because there's been murders and the
only witness or suspect is a human who thinks he's
a huge and they need to get to the bottom
of it with him. And there's easter eggs everywhere of
this just the scars of this world, like there you
see the remnants of the war that happened thirty years
ago between human and huge and how that's still reverberating
(03:04):
for everyone.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
How did this concept even come into fruition?
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Well, you know, I I tell stories late at night
to my little my kids that just kind of off
the cuff because you know, sometimes they want me to
read a story, sometimes they want me to make something up.
And my daughter was asking for something, and I don't know,
something about a giant came into our minds and we
were riffing about it, and of course my story for
her was very sweet, and I tucked her in and
(03:31):
then I left the room and it just got dark.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
So you just went to the other place.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Yes, I went deep into the other places. Yeah, and
I the story just poured out. I mean, I'm not
I'm not exaggerating. I wrote all five issues and then
I cooked up with Magenta King for this. He's based
in Brazil. He's insanely amazing. He did Jenny Zero for
dark Horse if you heard of that, Yes, among tons
(03:57):
of other stuff. And we have DC Hopkins on letters.
It's just and working with Titan has been awesome.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Great, And I mean you literally just sat there and
told me this came out of your mind. How quickly
did it come out of your mind? Like, how how
fast were you able to get this on paper?
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Okay, I think it took about like three months, which
for me is not terrible. No, for me, that's pretty quick. Yeah,
for the full five issue series or story. So yeah,
and plus we have all these cool little things, like
each issue ends with like a case file, like a
detective journal entry, where you're gonna see that this world
(04:38):
is so big beyond just this little story, this little
mystery of other areas that could be branched out injury.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
What can when fans do take a look at this
and they see this me as we just talked about,
I love dark humor. Are we gonna get some of
those remnants in here? Like?
Speaker 1 (04:55):
What can people expect to read this?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
So if you're a fan of like True Detective, it
has that darkness to it, It has that that kind
of creepy side to it. If you want that dark humor.
There are little moments because at the heart of it,
at the heart of any good story, it doesn't matter
that one of these characters is a giant. It's still
about human relationships. Yeah, if I and if I don't
(05:19):
make these characters like come out of like a part
of me, because that's what you know, I think any writer,
you're still pulling from yourself. So these two people have
some challenges with each other, They have their own vices,
and there are some little quips between them because there
are biases between the groups of people because at one
(05:40):
point Huge love to eat humans and you know, there
are some people that don't quite like that, and I
don't like that anymore. So, yes, there are little little
touches of humor. And if you know Magenta, like every panel,
if you look at it, you'll see little time. We
talk so much about the details and it he brings
(06:03):
little things in the background that like maybe it's a
ripped down poster of some propaganda against the Huge from
the thirty years ago in the Omega event which caused
all this strife, or there's like there's like remnants of
the bone of Huge that are now used in infrastructure
in the United States. And I didn't mention this, but
(06:23):
one of the things that's kind of backstory that you
figure out pretty quick is we realized there was mutual
shared destruction, like with nuclear weapons, Like yes, the Huge
outweighed us, sure, but we could destroy the earth that
we all inhabited, so we gave them Australia. I'm sorry Australia,
(06:43):
but yeah, there though. The fun thing is like you know,
I also we thought deeply about this. There's still gonna
be Australians that didn't leave, and they're still you know,
doing things, and you'll see little moments with like little
like there's all this backstory that's in the back between
with in the front is our main mystery, our main murders.
(07:04):
This is it's fantasy, but it's also noir and and
it's also science fiction because it's not like fantasy like
you know, Lord of the rings. It's a not so
distant presence.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Right, and you've already touched on it, and it's like
a human element to it. I mean, it's not human,
but there's also that human element too that people are
probably going to respond to when they read this.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
So yeah, I hope. I mean I brought a lot
to myself to this and these characters detected to Maki
and Giant, they both have a lot of challenges that struggles,
and I feel like today, with everything that's going on
in the world, if you don't have your characters kind
of reflecting that, then well sure, I guess you know,
(07:49):
tell a Tubby's or or Blues Clues. Those are still
friendly places. I don't know if they get too serious. Nope,
it is.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
It's a nice escape. That's just the nicest cape. Yes.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
You mentioned you've been working with Titan for quite some time.
How long has that been and how did even that
partner should come into class?
Speaker 4 (08:10):
So we've been I mean this they were the perfect fit, honestly,
Like I saw some of their ip like I love
Blade Runner, Conan Doctor Who, and I just wanted to
like I felt like that was like in the kind
of the genre smashing that I want this book to
be in And when I found out that they're starting
(08:30):
to get into like kind of create our own stuff,
I picture them. They immediately loved it and they've been awesome.
They're bringing invariant artists like Diego Yupur, Paul Pope, Robert Hack.
It's it's crazy. I mean, there's so many others that
I'm like, I'm sorry that I'm not remembering all the
names because I'm like, I have con Yeah, my brain
(08:52):
is like crusty with like Annie's pretzels.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
And I've been wanting it and I've been purposely of
avoiding and because I love it so much, but I
know I shouldn't have it. Well, that's smart you because
I'm literally sitting there going it's right out there in the.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Hall, it's waiting for you andling me right now.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
But I have to have the I have to have
the power.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
The power. I love that you're doing that.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
That's it's so hard.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
So yeah, Barry, it's And obviously Magenta's own covers are
just awesome. And the little case files at the end
of each issue the issue that the FOC is this Monday,
and then the issue issue one comes out August twenty first,
and it's five issues monthly collected eventually, and I hope other.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Stories down the road and they'll be able to get
this from where.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Your local comic shops, from Titan Comics, and just tell
your comic shops you want it, and or go to
a Titan's website. I have a link on my website
Adam Harryose dot com. That's my middle name. Well, you know,
Mike's me. Sound like I'm spelling Harry like I'm Harry,
(10:11):
which I am, but it's h A r r y.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
I'm glad you're clarify.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Well you're you're intimidating, so I you know, I'm just
I feel the butterflies.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
That's my superpower. That's right. Oh my goodness, this was fun, Adam,
thank you so much.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Hey, real pleasure. I appreciate your time absolutely.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
I want to thank Adam Rose for speaking with me
at Comic Con on the show floor. And real quick
update just so you know, I was not able to
keep up my end of the bargain, and I actually
did get anti en pretzels after that interview was over. However,
the only ones that were available were the cinnamon sugar pretzels,
(10:57):
which I were not I was not a fan of,
so I threw it into trash. What a waste of
nine dollars, but it is what it is. I did
make up for it when I got back at the
airport and I was able to get regular anti M pretzels,
so I was happy in the grand.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Scheme of things.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
