Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Buzz Buzz The Buzz is on.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
The Buzz is on the show that gets you up
close and personal with some of the hottest stars. Now
here's your host, Novelle jay Lee.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
What's going on, everybody? It's Novelle jay Lee with the
Buzz at Buzzworthy Radio. I finally had the chance to
sit down and speak with on the podcast Connor Floyd,
who plays the role of Philip Chance Chancellor on CBS
day Times, The Young and the Restless, and I did
kind of explain what I would like to see for
the character of Chance coming up. I may or may
(00:35):
not be getting my wish and what exactly was it
that I said that I would like to see. Well,
you're gonna have to listen to it and find out.
And for those of you who don't know, I am
wearing a Kelly Green jersey and yes, Kelly Green is
for my Philadelphia Eagles, and that may or may not
also have been discussed in this conversation. And we also
(00:58):
got into much much more with him. I was so
glad we got the chance to speak to them. And
now you guys get to hear it too. So here
it is our interview with Connor Floyd check it out.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Oh it seems like seems like this has been years
in the making that I finally.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
I didn't even know you had a podcast. I'm stoked.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
You're stoked. Oh my god. Yeah, man, seven No, wait,
November marks eighteen years doing this. Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah, not bad. I thought you were just straight interviews.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
I mean I do that too, but yeah, that comes
with the territory at this point, you know. But dude,
I'm so happy you're here. I mean, this has been
This has been something that I've been wanting to get
done with you for quite some time, ever since we
saw each other at the fiftieth and every time we
see each other as the Emmys, I'm going like, when
am I going to get this cat on my show?
(01:50):
And I finally made it happen and here you are today.
So I'm so fucking pumped to be here with you. Man.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Well, I'm stoked too.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I appreciate you having me.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
In spite of the fact that you know you freaking
hate the Eagles and you kind of.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, I'm sorry, man, Yeah, that was a good gaming.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Are you Are you sorry? Because I was not sorry
when I did it to you the week after that.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
So you know, I'm so I grew up a Cowboys fan.
I think I've told you this. The Cowboys really really
disappoint me. But now I root for the Bucks. I
gotta buddy the place for the Bucks. And it feels
so much better when your friends win than when your
team wins. And so I'm all all bored on the
Bucks raight now.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
I kind of will give you a pass then, because
you you went from the Cowboys, which cowboys disappoint me
to and then you somewhere else. So you know what
I will give you. I will give you a fair
shake right now. I'll let you slide on this for
the time being.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
So the Eagles look good the other night too, Like
the off a little, a little rough, but then they
picked it up.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yeah, they picked it up. It was still a bad game.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
I think Jordan loved going down helped them.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
I mean the field also, wasn't I mean listen.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, I know they kept talking about the field. That
was interesting, but.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
It was on both sides though. But it was also
you know, the two turnovers in the first quarter and
it was just, oh my gosh, they got they got
to do better. But hopefully when they play Monday. Yeah, Monday.
This coming Monday, the Falcons they play Monday. Yeah. So yeah,
(03:22):
we'll see. We'll see how it happens. Because we always
start up here and then all of a sudden we
get the playoffs and it's like, you disappoint me every
freaking year.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Y'all better at least let old Drake London eat because
he's on my fantasy team.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I need to have a big day.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
You know, I haven't. I haven't done fantasy in so long.
I now got to get back into it.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
So I'm kind of new.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
I'm kind of new on it, but now I'm like
a minute, I wasn't so against it, you know, for
the longest time serious, I just like I didn't I
didn't find any interesting, and I was like, you know,
I just want to watch the games, you know, I
just want to watch what I want to watch. But
now I watch all the games and I'm really fested
in because I got you know, I got all these
players and I'm trying to win.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
You're trying to win, you know, honestly I was. I
was also against it at the time because, like you,
I was going, I don't understand this, Like why are
we why are we doing this and I'm literally just
watching the game. But seriously, it's it's competitive, and I
I love it. I love I love the whole entire thing.
So you know what, now that I got into it,
I'm going like, so, when's the draft.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
I'm my ball to the wall, man, I'm a full manager.
I'm always checking stuff. Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
That's it. We're here to win, and we're we're going
to talk to you too. I mean, listen, you've got
some stuff going on. I mean, obviously it's been three years. Wow,
three years, three years in October, three years in October.
That was the best birthday President you think when you
got that show? And was I mean, honestly, I mean,
(04:56):
what did you say about that for being on the show,
but you got to be a part of the show
when it celebrated on the milestone and justin just being surrounded.
We kind of touched on it when we were at
the party, but we really didn't get a chance to
really talk. But being a part of this canvas, so
many heavy hitters on this show and getting to be
a part of some of that in these past three years,
(05:20):
what has been the most worthwhile thing for you on
that cast and on that show.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
I think it's just being part of that family. I think,
you know, what we got going on over at Y
and R is really special, and I think, you know,
it's very rare where everyone gets along, everyone's on the
same page, everyone's.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
On the same team.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
I mean, everyone's so professional, very welcoming to newcomers as well.
And yeah, I'm just I feel very blessed to go
to work with these people and get to know them
after these three years that have just flown by, not high,
and yeah, just be part of the team, a small
piece of the pie.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
You know, I can't believe how quickly it's comedy because I,
as you just said, it just flew and I just
I'm just literally sitting here going, yeah, I honestly thought
he just started last year because of how.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Cool I now like that.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Sometimes literally noted it up and I was going, twenty
twenty one, are you serious? And then you know, so
it was just it just kind of blew me away
a little bit too. And you know, Chance has been
the cop and then he got shot, and then he
had gotten into business and now he's trying to find
he's not everything, he's doing everything, and he's trying to
find also in the midst of that romance of his life,
(06:34):
and it doesn't seem like it seems now he may
have found someone who finally kind of is with him,
But I'm also kind of sitting here going like, I
don't think that's gonna last you either.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Know how soap operas work. Man, Yeah, everything's looking good.
You know there's a big crash company you already know.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
I mean, listen, this is someone who hasn't been out
of this game for too long. I've been in this
game since ninety and listen, I started watching when I
was five, and I even already knew the troop tropes then.
So I'm going like, oh, they're happy. Somebody was about
to come in and right happy as.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Soon as they get happy.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
But it's always me guessing who's gonna be the one
that cheats on them first, always like it's gonna be
it's gonna be the guy this time, and then if
they get back together, then I'm going like, no, now
it's gonna be the woman. And then it's like sometimes
they surprise me and it's both times the guy, but
it's all it's always like that. But I my gosh,
(07:28):
I don't know. I like Summer, but I don't know
if Chance see Chance and Claire should be a thing.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
Thought Claire, all right, that's interesting. I've never heard that
one before.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
I mean, listen, I listen. I love Haley Aaron. She's
been a favorite of mine for years. When I first
met her when she first played Abby on the show.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah, i'd learned that the other day too, that's nice.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
That was when I first met her, was when she
was Abby before she went to gh and then came
back on the show and fell in love with her then.
So I was excited when she returned to the show,
But I was also kind of going, like, why isn't
Chance and Claire a thing? That should be a thing.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
I think, you know, I think Chance really enjoys what
he has with Summer.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
I think it's like, for.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Once, there's not a lot of drama involved. It seems
very easy. She's definitely his type. I mean, I think,
you know, very similar to Abby, you know, and I
think that's his like, yeah, that.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Was his girl.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
And so I really think he's enjoying this time with
Summer right now. It just feels feels easy, and that's
the way it should be.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Do you like playing the hero or do you like
playing Would you rather have played a character where it's
the anti hero torture?
Speaker 3 (08:41):
You know, I do love I do love anti heroes.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
I mean just thinking about all my favorite movies and
some of my favorite characters or characters, I love the
anti heroes.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
I've pitched Josh multiple times.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
I'm like, hey, I don't know if this makes any sense,
but what if Chance had an evil twin?
Speaker 3 (08:58):
You know that just rolled into nowhere. He checked me down.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
He's like, no, absolutely not, We're not doing that. But
I think it would be fun to be you know, evil,
be bad.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
That would be fun.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
I would love that for your character. Because when we
watched Chance as a child with one of the child actors,
and you know, you're also playing a part that Pemn
Badgeley played, so you know.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
But I love that getting well, of.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
Course, you know, let's be real here, but but seeing
this character, especially when the child actors played him, and
having that Nina asked vibe to him at the time,
because Nina was also someone who was.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Not a heroine. She was also the bad girl. Can
I it's my show, I could say she was a bit.
So we love that about her. I mean, listen, I
told her to her face, Tricia Trician has been on
my show when I said that flat out to her.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Much what you say, boy my mama?
Speaker 1 (10:06):
She took it as a compliment.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
So yeah, probably like that.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I'm kind of sitting her going like, this is Jill's grandson,
this is Nina's son. Where is that that? Where is
this guy who should be like hell, hath no fury attitude?
That's how That's how I see Chance, and I feel
like you would play that so well.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Well, I think you are in store for a little
bit of that.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
I think Chance he's coming into his own again. You know,
he's really at this point in his life. I think
he's saying, excuse my language, but it a lot. You know,
he's saying, why not, I'm just gonna kind of shoot
for the stars and.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
See what happens.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
And he's not really afraid of hurting by his feelings anymore.
So I think you can expect a little bit of
that coming up.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Okay, that's a little that's a little good. I'm happy
for that because we we we need to see that
in that character. So thank you to tell me that
looking forward to that, How did you even get into
the acting field, what was what drove your passion to start?
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Well, shoot, man, this this started a long time ago.
I always acted when I was a kid. Always, if
I had a chance to get in a theater arts class,
I was in it.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
I always had a good time in there. I was
the kid though, because I was an athlete.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
I played sports in second grade or something like that,
first or second grade, and so that was my life.
That's what I wanted to do, That's what I was
committed to. That's what I was kind of planning on
doing as I got older.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
But I always enjoyed these rots. I always had fun.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
But I was the kid in class that would audition
for the scenes or for the for the characters with
like two three lines right.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Like two scenes to breeze. I don't even have to study.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
I didn't know my lines right, and every time I
got on stage, I would it wouldn't even be a comedy.
But I tried to just get as many laughs as
I could. I tried to be as ridiculous as possible.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
So nothing from that point to now, nothing.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
I had to be a little bit more professional through
the years, but back then, no, I didn't care and
so that's kind of where the seeds were planted. As
I got older. You know, me and my buddies were
in that YouTube era where we were really, really really
trying to be YouTube famous and pop off virally somehow,
and and that kind of you know, that developed into
(12:25):
like us doing little skits or you know, me right
out like a funny commercial, like a spoof commercial that
we would film. And then yeah, through college, was still
playing ball. And my senior year, I graduated early and
I red shirted, so I had a year of football
left and I could take whatever classes I wanted, and
I took strictly acting and theater and film study classes
(12:48):
just in case. And once that year got done, I
was like, why not, let's go do it. Let's move
out west and give this go.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
How difficult was it to make that transition for you
starting out like trying to get his jobs that steady work.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Yeah, I mean it was tough just deciding to do
it too. You know, I really loved football, and like,
if you go ask ten year old Connor, what's he
want to do when when he gets older he wants
to be a football player. And so giving that up
and kind of accepting my fate at the time and
trying to pivot.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
It was.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
It was tough, but I felt something there was something
like in here. As cliche as it sounds, it was like, dude,
go to it. And my dad kind of pushed me too.
There was a little bit of him that was like, hey,
I always kind of wanted to do that when I
was eighteen, you know, now, go to college, just go
be a movie star up in LA He was.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Like, why not, Man, if you got the fire, go
for it. But yeah, when I got out here.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
It was just kind of spitballing and winging it, trying
to get on set, trying to build a resume.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Get an agent, and uh yeah, this guy's this far.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Got you this far. Listen, your family is a big
support support system for you. I mean listen. I love Genaine,
my girl.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yeah, yeah, I was just talking to her.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
I was like, I'm gonna be on the nap today.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
I was gonna actually text her after this and I
was gonna tell her, oh, by the way, I talked
to your son just now. No, no, no joke. But now, Gina.
Gina is great and I love how her and your
sister and your dad they just they support you along
the way, they visit you on the set. It's just
I love the fact that they are behind you, and
it's just it's just great to see whenever I get
(14:27):
the chance to see it.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
They they're my biggest cheerleaders. They watch all the bad
stuff I do and they shoot me straight.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
They're committed.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
You know, they're from Texas. I think they would it was.
If it wasn't for your mom, I wouldn't have seen
the videos you've just done on Instagram for the new
UV Is it uv TV uv TV?
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Yeah, it's a cool little app that's on the upcome
right now.
Speaker 3 (14:56):
Yeah, it's Ryan Reynolds.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
You're like, I love them. I love the one. We're
going like these famous Ryan's and you completely it was
like in the video completely admitted the one in particular.
I was like, I wonder why, but but yeah, thank
you to her for it, because it's like that algorithm
on Instagram is so freaking weird. But it's like when
(15:21):
she when I noticed that she liked it, and then
I was going like what is this? And then that
was literally how I saw it. And then of course
after that that I started seeing it on Twitter and
people were talking about it, and I was just like, yeah,
now that I know about it, now I'm going to
see it. But that was nice.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
They're a good little crew over there. That was a
fun shoot, the good writers, you know, it was. It
was fun doing that.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
I was kind of wondering if that was improvised by
you or it.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Was just oh no, no, no, yeah. They wrote most of it.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
I threw like some little quirks in there for the
most part, but the majority of the time I was
just reading.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
I was reading the scripts.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Okay, okay, yeah, very curious about that. And it's just
all these guitars in your room right now, just like
staring at them.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
You're in my man cave right now?
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Is this the man cave? This is the man cave.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Moved in with my girlfriend and I came in with
a bunch of stuff and she was like, no, you're
not gonna put that anywhere.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
So it's all in the cave.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Not surprised because I've talked to Carly and that sounds
just about right.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
My posters and guitars and hats, skateboards, football.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
Listen, listen. She had to give you something, if she Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
I was thankful to get the cave.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Man this is I would have commissioned it and probably
would have been that friend and went like, listen, you're
having him test your your stuff with your skincare. You
give them a man cave.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
So my giant poster at Clint Eastwood have like, we're gonna,
We're gonna put this.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
She's like, okay in the cave. No way. She at
least gave you that. I was I was scarce. She
was about to say, no, it's going So how often
have you been playing with your guitars?
Speaker 4 (16:56):
And you still yeah, yeah, It's like almost every day
thing for me. I man, I don't know if you've
ever heard Michael grass a Day play guitar, but boy
can he jump after it.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
And I knew I've never watched or heard him play.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
You know what.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
One of the coolest things about being on set this
I love this so much. There's like this whole corner
of the set where all these guitars and amps and
every kind of musical instrument you can think of is
kind of positioned right and during five during our like
our breaks, you know, all the camera guys, some of
the crew members, everyone comes over and they have like
a little five minute jam session. So I'll go over
(17:35):
there every now and then listen, and I've jumped in
once or twice.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
But everyone's really good. Will the guy to play.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Or the he runs one of the cameras. He's phenomenal.
He's taught me a lot. Michael Grass day, I don't
know what he's doing not being in a band.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Because he can just absolutely rip it.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
And so it's it's been fun learning from them, you know,
while I'm at work.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
Yeah, I try to.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
I try to jump on these things every day and
I'm trying to be Eddie ben Haleen.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
That's pretty awesome though, And as you said, you know Gras,
I knew he played, I never heard him play, but
I would love that opportunity.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
You can just shred. It's unreal how fast he is.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Oh my gosh, I need to hear him play. So
now I got to get him back on the show
and be like, listen, I need you to play song,
like right now, We're gonna make that happen. Guys, I'm
just saying, but speaking of him on the set when
you first got there on the show, who was probably
not one person, it could be people, but one person
(18:34):
who kind of had you go under their wing oh
ord Way for sure.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Melissa or Melissa, he was my girl, you know, and
it was it was fun too, just because I was
working with her every day and it wasn't even work.
It was just fun, like you know, we would just
hang out, have a good time, talk about the scene,
try to make each other laugh.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Yeah, but she kind of showed me the rope.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
She showed me where everybody ate, you know, everybody would
like during lunch go over this restaurant. She took me
with her, and so it was fun. She really showed
me how to how to fit in.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Oh that's good. And nervous miss pretty much.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Yeah, I was so nervous.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
I thought I was gonna have to like, you know,
I was a new kid on the block. I thought
I was going to roll up and kick somebody's ass
and prove myself.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
So I don't think in daytime you have to do that. Yeah,
I mean, listen with soaps. I commend you guys so
much for what you do because that's so much dialogue
you have to do in a day, and you know,
between forty to fifty sometimes the eighty pages per day.
You know, you guys got to memorize and it's such
(19:44):
a I feel like a difficult medium. And that's why
I'm like, if anybody's in the soap game, I try
not to knock them because I know how tough it is.
I know the struggle of it, and you guys pull
it off so effortlessly on this show, this show in
particular with win R and I can't I can't deny
(20:07):
whin R has been my love for quite some time.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
And you're gonna say number one, weren't you?
Speaker 1 (20:14):
You know? I was a CD I am a CBS boy.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
I'm gonna I try.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
I'm I'm so embarrassed that you caught me.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Not everybody know on the record why R is the
buzz is number one?
Speaker 1 (20:28):
I mean, god, I can't even lie anymore.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Now, man.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
That's That's one thing that I don't think soaps get
enough recognition for is just the amount of material that
we're busting out in a day. And like, you know,
I can't really speak for those big productions, but you know,
on everything that I filmed, we are maybe maybe shooting
ten pages a day.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
Maybe that's that seems like a big day.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
And so the fact that we sometimes pump out two episodes,
you know, one hundred and twenty pages or something like that.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
It's nuts.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
So you are still doing two episodes a day on
one day of the week.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Sometimes yeah, sometimes we just did it the other day.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
I don't understand how you guys can get through that
so so well, like for me, I feel like if
that were me, I would be on the struggle bus.
I'm sorry, not sorry.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Well oiled machine. For sure.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
I could not. I don't think I could do it.
I literally feel like I would be the guy getting
on the set and messing up his lines. And especially
now where you know, there's really no retakes at all.
You go in, you block and that's it. That's it,
there's no retakes at all. You just got to pop
it out and keep going.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
But that's that's that's what I had to learn when
I first got on sets. You know, I preparation.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
You got to be prepared. And I don't want to
be a you know, a delay.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
I don't want to cause any kind of delay to
this well oiled machine. That is why and are And
so yeah, once I kind of got the I figured
that out right there, it was like, all right, I
gotta I gotta do my homework. I can't show up
ill prepared or I will be that guy that doesn't
know his lines.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
It's going to cause some.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Yeah, how much, because I know sometimes actors do and
don't and that's okay. But the research on the chance character,
did you know about him when you came on the show.
After you came on the show, did you do like
a history lesson on the character?
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Like?
Speaker 4 (22:29):
How so when I auditioned originally I originally auditioned for Noah. Really,
I'm in there an audition for Noah.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Little side story.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
I knew Rory from years before. You know, we worked
at Barry's boot Camp together and so it was kind
of cool seeing him, and I'm very.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Happy he got Barry's boot Camp.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Baby.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
That was my boy Derek de Grazio, who worked there
a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
Yeah, I got fired from Barry. That's another story. But anyways,
originally auditioned for Noah. Didn't get that. They called me
a week later and they were like, we got another role.
We want to bring you in for him.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
They sent me the breakdown. I think his name was Mark,
and it was like a very vague description of this guy.
And so I studied. I you know, I did my homework.
I went in there to read. And I don't know
if you know this story as well, but I bumped
into Melissa in the kind of waiting room, lobby area,
whatever you want to call it, and we're sitting there
(23:30):
together and she looked at me.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
She was like, are you auditioning today? And I was
like yeah, and she was like, what's the character?
Speaker 4 (23:34):
And I was like Mark and she was like, let
me see the sides and I showed it to her
and she was like, no, you're reading for my husband.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
His real name is Chance and he's ex friggin Cia.
You know, he's a ward ero. He worked undercover.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
And I was like what because that wasn't in any
of the breakdown and so I'm like, oh my god,
this is this is what they told me.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
I didn't get any of this. Is this a mistake?
She was like, no, it's probably just dummy stuf.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
Within that like fifteen minute span of me just sitting.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
There, I was like, Okay, let me rethink this a
little bit and make some different choices.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
This guy is a lot more badass than I thought
he was.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
And so yeah, I honestly think that that that helped
me going into that audition and Melissa just given me
that intel. And then afterwards, Yeah, they gave me the
they gave me the actual breakdown of Chance.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
They gave me like a full history lesson.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
We got a girl that I can email if I
have any you know, history questions, which I do constantly.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Yeah, and yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
So I immediately was like, well, shit, I got to
figure out how to become a.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
CIA agent undercover war hero. I gotta do my research.
So I hit the ground running man.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
That's pretty cool that that. I'd never heard that story
with with with Melissa at all. So that was that's
some pretty cool intel. Because you know, I always and
like I said, it's a okay if they don't, but
I always love hearing about when there are ree casts
for a role, especially a role that has ties to
the canvas somehow, if they did their research of their
(25:10):
history on said character and try to incorporate it in
some way into their performance. So I thought, yeah, I
just wanted to ask that.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
I was like with Chance too.
Speaker 4 (25:21):
I mean, when I first got on, he was coming
back from that mission, right, and they were kind of
they were kind of you know, hinting that you know,
PTSD is gonna come.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
I thought that No.
Speaker 4 (25:33):
I literally thought that, you know, and the cool thing
Tony Moreno or EP at the time, he was like,
this guy is you know a chance? He was like,
he's totally different from the other chance, Like he's experienced
this big thing, so he's going to come back a
different person. So he was like, don't worry about what
the other guy was doing. He has changed, so and
play it like that.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
I was like, all right, cool, yeah, and it worked out.
So there it is. Who were you're acting inspirations growing up?
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Oh man? How much time? The ones that I'm free
all day so I got I can talk about this
all day.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
The ones that have really made an impact. My dad
showed me all those Cleon Eastwood movies.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Really right, Why did I have a feeling that was
going to be your answer? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (26:21):
I'm a big Eastwood guy. I love all the everything
that he's done. McConaughey has been a big one for me,
just because with the Texas roots. I just think he's
one of the cool students ever too.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
So oh, I will tell you a story about him,
but continue, I.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
Want to hear this now.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
McConaughey, who else Bradley Cooper's up there for me? I
think he's Yeah, Gostling Denzel is amazing. I mean, if
you want to talk new age, I really like what
Austin Butler's doing. Yeah, the list goes on reeves on
pin I think is amazing. Yeah, I mean all the
(27:04):
all the greates.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Man, dude, that was a good list. My story. Okay,
so last year, it was literally last year this time,
and McConaughey was in Jersey for a book tour. I
was like, oh shit, I'm gonna let me see if
I can beat the Kanye, and tickets came out. I
(27:27):
was immediately able to get one. It wound up selling
out soon after I bought it. So come time, get there,
pouring rain, legitimately pouring rain. I have no umbrella. I'm
standing outside with probably about a thousand other people standing
in line, and then we get inside and I meet
(27:49):
the man, myth legend, just standing there and he literally
puts his arm on my shoulder and he sees my shirt,
which says the audacity. But I said, no, don't say that,
Say all right, all right, all right for me, and
he did, so he did. We took the picture. I
have it in my canvas, and I'm just sitting there
(28:11):
going like, dude, you're freaking amazing.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
I really enjoyed meeting him and just talk to him.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Yeah, I feel like he's probably got the best kind
of He sits as stories.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Old, chill and laid back, like I literally never would
have imagined ever meeting anybody that just he literally did
not have a care in the world. He literally loved everybody.
And I'm sitting here, I really would like to be
that in my life when I grow up, I would
like to be you for as far as having that
kind of a personality.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
But enough, my dad.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
So my dad went to ut right, and my dad
is a little bit I think he's like four years
older than McConaughey, maybe three, But my dad's senior year
of his senior year of college, McConaughey was a freshman
and McConaughey joined his frat.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Right.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
Dad was like, I didn't really know him and didn't really, like,
you know, interact with him very much. But I do
remember that when we were like, you know, whatever they
do that they were like they were trying to pick
who they were going to take on. You know what
I'm saying, I wouldn't Yeah, pledges, Yeah, pledges they were
trying to, you know, choose who they were going to take,
and they needed one more and they were like, who
do we tell? I don't know, And they were like, well,
(29:26):
what about this kid. It talks, he's from Australia, he
has an Australian accent.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
We'll just take that kid.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
And it was McConaughey, and apparently he would walk around
talking on Australian accenters. He lived in Australia, so I
think he was I don't know if he was coming
straight from there, and I picked up a bit.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Of a dialect from. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
My dad was like, this guy was always talking like
an assie.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
I could see that.
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Good actor.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
Yeah, that's method acting right there. No, he literally is
one of He's literally one of the best. I cannot
I can't ever speak negatively about him at all. And
when people asked me what he was like when I
was standing actually been getting the chance to at least
speak with him, everybody was always asking.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
What was he like?
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Is he really nice? I feel like he's this really
nice guy. I was like, honestly, what you see is
what you get. Yeah, it's not there's no genuine Yeah,
there's no facade. Anywhere when it comes to macganah at all,
it's literally it's what you see right in front of you.
He's literally this guy.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
And I actually watched a lot of rewatching it again
right now.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
I watch a lot of True Detective to get into that,
like detective mindset for Chance, because I think he absolutely
crushed that.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Literally, I mean he has the skills, like why couldn't
he do that? You know, pretty interesting, But this was fun.
I really was happy that you got the chance to
be here and spending this time with me and getting
to talk to me, and we're going to do this again.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
Yeah. Man, you let me know. I'm always game. Appreciate
you anything you're doing. I'm showing up.
