The purpose of pain
Welcome to Cloverleaf Chiropractic Show. Today, we're going to do the show on what pain is, and what the purpose of pain is. And what does it mean to have pain in the body? How do we deal with it? What's the best way to handle it? My name is Dr. Daniel Abeckjerr, I'm a Doctor of Chiropractic. Stay tuned.
And this show is about what pain is, how do we deal with it? What do we do? How do we handle it? You know, what's the best way to deal with a symptom like pain? So what is pain? Pain is the signal in your body or in your nervous system that something is wrong, that something is not right. It's not a good feeling, it's not a pleasant feeling. But there's different reason for it.
So it could be steady pain, it could be throbbing pain, it could be stabbing, sharp like a knife pain, it could be aching, it could be pinching. And sometimes it comes in it goes…. Like a toothache you know, it comes in and goes. And sometimes it's quiet during the day, and it's worse at night, and it throbs at night, and it's more significant than and you feel it more.
And sometimes it can be constant. Sometimes it's everywhere, the whole body, it affects your function. Some people you know, commit suicide because of pain, because they can't handle it.
So there's two kinds of pain. There's acute pain, and there's chronic pain.
Acute means severe, it's short lived. And you know, basically it just tells you that the body was injured, something, some kind of trauma occurred. Chronic Pain is something that's marked severe that's there all the time and never goes away, or it's there for a long period of time.
And it's a result of a disease or some kind of illness. Like people that have fibromyalgia you know, they have the pain all the time. And it just doesn't go away, and it's constant, and it’s there with you for years. So pain can interfere with your function, it can interfere with what you do every day. It can interfere with sleep, it can interfere with your work, it can interfere with your activities, your quality of time with your family and your friends.
So how do we take care of pain? How do we treat it? How do we handle it? You know, basically, most of the time, the average person goes to the family doctor. And basically what we're directed to do is to take some kind of medication to manage the symptom, to manage the pain.
