head coach of the Moeler Crusaders, Bert Bathyani. The show
was sponsored by Comy and Shepherd Realtors, and I'm Jeff
Schneedle with the class of nineteen eighty four. Here with
the head coach of the Crusaders, Bert Bathyany. Coach, how
(01:15):
are we doing today?
Speaker 3 (01:16):
We're doing well, man, just looking forward to getting this
getting the week three. Obviously, this game has been circled
for us for about three hundred and sixty five days,
so we're looking forward to getting to this week.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
I guess we uh coaching staff and players that are
itching to get to get another crack at East Central, YEP.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
And there were nothing but respect for their football team.
That was a really cool environment when we played there
last year. But they do a really good job from
a coaching standpoint, from a player development standpoint, their kids
play hard, and they had a special team last year too.
They were really really good.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, I mean sometimes you just got to tip your
hat and just say hey, I mean they did well.
I mean they they were pretty much like a machine.
I mean and the thing they the thing that they
did not do is they didn't give us any opportunities.
They didn't shoot themselves in the foot, which you know,
game of football, I mean you need those you need
that tight game, and they just they didn't do that.
(02:14):
They did their thing, and you know it was uh
uh you know, I'll say, good riddance, glad those a
lot of those guys graduated and there'll be two different teams.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yep, two different teams. They'll be completely different, will be
completely different. But that's high school football too, right, Like
it's the change of the guard every single year and
their one class leaves and new one comes in and
then it's there turning the.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Shine and coach. We get to uh, we get to
play i'll say, our first home game, but at least
to go to some familiar territory, I know. I mean
we pretty much played a real We did play a
real game against Maslin, so I mean we're there. You know,
that's a good environment, it's a good setup. Just wish
it was closer, but it is what it is, and
(02:58):
we get to have our first home game for the kids.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, there'll be some consistency there because that's where we
played our home games last year and then we were
we were there for the Massline scrimmage, so there's a
little familiarity for everyone from that standpoint. But I don't
know how much of a factor that plays, especially you know,
with the the environment that we have and how how
much things change. But it is nice to be able
(03:23):
to play a game in Cincinnati.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
There we go Game two in Cincinnati, Game three overall coach?
You know, with nine captains regarding home game and uniforms,
is there? Is it? Is it up to the captains?
Is it? And uh? Now with uh with nine captains
at nine or eight eight eight? I'm sorry, I want
to say nine eight main had nine had now you go?
(03:49):
So they had to try one up? And anyway is there?
Does everyone get like a game to pick? Or is
it done by committee? Or so? How are they going
to decide?
Speaker 3 (03:59):
The captains and my vision are described as the the
voice of the players to the coaches. They're the bridge, right,
so it is their responsibility to take the words and
the feelings of the players to provide that to the
coaching staff to see where we're at with things right now.
With the uniforms right there, they're gonna probably do a
(04:20):
poll or whatever how they do it and figure out
what they want to wear, and then we'll go from there.
And they tell me and I say, okay, now, if
we're on a roll with a certain uniform and I'm
feel a little superstitious, I might trumpet, but or I
tried to provide a vision of what I'm thinking and
then let them make the decision on their own. But
(04:40):
from that same point, it's all on the captain.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
That's not gonna be one of these situations where Okay,
don't wash your uniform just just you know it's you.
We're not gonna do that for to be a little concern.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Now, you still got to be clean. That's part of it.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
You's got to be clean. You go there, you go,
all right, So coach, we get to uh, we get
to take on East Central as we have a little
bit different week here with with the Coach b Show,
but you know, we'll we'll get back in a rhythm
the following week. So you know, kind of expect the
same things out of East Central as far as a
strong running game, and and they'll try to take it
(05:13):
to us.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Well, I mean, like I think they went fifteen to
oh last year. I don't know what else it would change, right,
I mean like, well, you're just gonna get better of
what you do, right, and they're a good football team,
so we here's what will never change on them is
they'll be well coach, they'll get aligned correctly, they'll run
to the ball and they'll hit you and that won't change, right,
(05:34):
So however they want to package that, that's how they're
going to package that. But that's the the when you
get teams like this facing off against each other, it
comes down to making sure you're doing all those things.
More than anything, it comes down the blocking, tackling, running,
special teams. So they're gonna be really good in all
those facets. So we'll ever work cut out for him.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
And it'll it'll be upon us as Uh, we'll get
we'll get East Central, we get them at home and Coach,
just like that, we're starting to click. Some weeks weeks
by and kids are back in school. Weather's kind of
getting back a little bit, i'll say normal, but we
you know, we were in summer. Now we're you know,
past Labor Day and all that.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Last week was you know, felt like the middle of
July and then hopefully we're getting that full weather that
everyone likes and that's.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Why they call it summer. Yeah. Yeah, so you get
what you get.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
So we're we're getting in rhythm and before we know it,
it'll be you know, October and you're rolling right. So
the season goes by fast, all.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Right, Coach, We'll appreciate the, uh, the update with East Central.
Keep everything rolling with the Crusaders, Uh, it's a it's
a fun team to watch and we're gonna we're gonna
keep having fun with it and uh, just week to week,
make things happen cool. That is the head coach of
the Crusaders. That's Bert Bathy. And as you're listening to
the Bert Bathy and Show, sponsored by Comy and Shepherd
