A success in life.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Coman what is it you want? Give your best effort,
show me what you got.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
If you want to be a success, you've gotta have.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
It's the Burt Fathyany Coaches Shoe presented by Koman Shepherd
Reelders and First Community Mortgage. A competitive combo championship results
and here's your host. Jeff Seedele and Muller head football
coach Burt Pathyany w.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I MOWE and the Moeller Broadcasting Network present the Burt
Fathyani Show, which features the head coach of the football
Moeler Crusaders. That's Bert Bathyani. The show is sponsored by
Komyan Shepherd Reeltors and I'm Jeff Schneiedel class of nineteen
eighty four and also with Komyan Shepherd Reeltors for all
your real estate needs. It's always great to check in

(00:49):
with the head coach of the Crusaders, Bert Bathyany Coach.
How are we doing today?

Speaker 1 (00:53):
Doing good? Jeff? How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Doing great? Doing great? Well? Not a lot really needs
to be said. A big week. We know it's on
the horizon and quite honestly, when the when the schedule
comes out every year, there's usually one game that gets
the big circle on it, and it happens to be
the blue team from from North Bend Road. So I'm
sure a lot of not a lot is needed to
get everyone kind of amped up for this week of practice.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
Correct, Yeah, I mean I think not to downplay the
game or anything, but like it's there's no need for
me to circle the game for our players because they
know what it's about. Everyone at school is what it's about.
If anything, you're trying to more like kind of calm
everyone down and just go play football and focus on
the task at hand and keep the main thing the
main thing, and that's just playing good football.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Well, the players just want to go play games. And
I think I'm more referring to the the alumni basins
with that question. Yeah, and the and the siblings and
the and the grandparents. Everybody gets all fired up for
this week. So coach, we'll talk about the uh, the
game that we had in Ironton, but uh, everybody doing
okay as far as this week with uh, you know,

(01:56):
I know it's a little bit maybe different from the
first three weeks, but we got to day on course.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Yeah, I think it was a little bit of a
whirlwind last week where you didn't know whether or not
you're even gonna play a game, right, I mean there
was there was talk about three or four different teams
at one point, so you never knew who you're gonna play.
And we got the game, and like that was a
good game. I mean, definitely an instant classic. And you know,
we went into overtime and just didn't have enough plays

(02:23):
to get the win from that standpoint, but take it
as a learning experience. And when you play the schedule
that we play, and you play against quality opponents weekend
and week out, right, like you're gonna have games like that, and.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
And we got to learn from it.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
We got to get better and then take those lessons
from the past game and add it to all the
games down the line, because the goal is still the
same goal, and that's playing our best football at the
end of October into November and then be peaking at
the right time.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Coach, when the when the players go play a game,
I mean, if we play like an inferior opponent and
we don't really play well but the score looks lopsided,
versus maybe like a game like we just had where
we didn't play well, but we didn't like get You know,
sometimes you get blown out and you're just like, man,
just wasn't our day. Maybe the other team was better

(03:10):
that day, whatever. This just seemed a game for the taking.
That was there. It was right there on the table.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Force, Yeah, it was, and they just made I think
one more play than we did.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
At the end of the game. I thought our defense played.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Lights out and you look at our stats on defense
of like what our goals are they accomplished. Every single
goal was really I think just two plays where they
got the best of us. And that's kind of the thing,
is like we got to make more plays on offense
and be play more complimentary football, and I think in
the last couple of games we've been able to do
that on offense, defense, and special forces. And I thought

(03:44):
our defense played incredibly well. I don't think we held
up our end of the bargain on offense or special
teams to make enough plays to win. But with that said,
we still found ourselves at the end of the game
in overtime with the chance to win. And like you said,
like losing can showcase on your sins and bring them
to the forefront. And you got to kuies in and

(04:04):
you got to improve from that so you can get
better for the next week. But like you said, when
you play those games where you might blow someone out
and maybe the score shows one thing, but everyone knows
that we didn't really play our best, that could be
a lesson as well. But the whole goal is to
be the best version of yourself every single day, in
every single game and playing good football. And obviously we

(04:27):
fell short of the outcome in this last.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
One, fell short of the outcome we wanted. But as
you said, we were right there. But we'll take our
first break and then we'll come back and we'll glance
over that game against Mallard Creek as the Crusaders took
their first loss of the year, but we move on
as you're listening to the Burt Pathy Andy Show sponsored
by Comy and Shepherd Reeltors, heard here on w MOE

(04:51):
and the Molar Broadcasting Network. Thank you for listening to
The Berg Pathy Andy Show, brought to you and sponsored
by Comy and Shepherd Reeltors. Go Big Moment. You are
listening to w MOOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network, and

(05:14):
right now it is the Bert Bathy Andy Show, which
features the head coach of the Crusaders Bert pathy Annie,
I'm Jeff Schneedle with Komy and Shepherd Realtors and with
w MOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network. In the show
is sponsored by Comy and Shepherd Realtors. Coach, we get
down to Ironton and tell you what it might have
been a little warm, but man, what a beautiful setting.

(05:36):
What a beautiful place to go play a ball game.

Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yeah, that was my first time there. I've always heard
about it and what is setting for high school football?
And that is a just that's high school football at
its best, right, Like that is small town Ohio. And
they shut the place down. One of our coaches was
telling the story how he went to a game there.
One time he was getting gas at the gas station.
He was the last customer there because they're shutting it
down to the ball game on front. Yeah, but that's

(06:01):
it and they care about it and they treat us
so well when we're there. I mean, you're driving through Ironton,
you see Muller flags out in the front yard. So
they do it the right way and Coach Pendleton does
a great job over there, and they got.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
A good football team themselves.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
But it was a really cool environment, really cool stadium,
really cool feeling it. You know, it went down to
the wire and you know, it went into overtime, so
I think all the people in the stands got an
exciting game. I wish we would have ended up in
a different outcome on the end, but you know, we're
gonna learn from it. We're gonna bounce back and take
those lessons in the GCL.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Play coach, the game was kind of like a little
bit of like a boxing match, kind of like sparring
back and forth in the beginning. You know, obviously both
defenses were kind of ruling the show in the beginning,
and it seemed like the whatever it was, the fifty
seven yard run that they had was was that a
broken play?

Speaker 4 (06:48):
There's a miss tackle. Okay, it's a miss tackle, okay.
But I mean we play really really aggressive on defense.
It doesn't take it, you know, a genius to figure
that out when you watch our tape. And we knew
going into the game that they had that type of
explosive power on offense. So a big point was we
got to provide pressure and create TFLs and then doing
that when you're aggressive, right, like, you don't hit home

(07:10):
one time, like they can, they can get you, and
that's that's like the talent that they have on offense.
But we felt confident with how we play on defense
that we were going to.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Take that risk.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
And here's the thing, right, like, our defense gave up
seven points in the in the in the game.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Right on one big play. Yeah, like the systematically went
down and chewed us up. And yeah, they gave up
seven points.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
That's it.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
The other touchdown came from, you know, a lack of
execution on offense, and then they got a big one
in overtime. Right like the balls on the twenty five,
your chances are scoring a great but the defense played
lights out the whole game and it was really like
one play that got us something. From that standpoint, but so,
like I said, we got to play more complimentary football

(07:50):
in every aspect of the game. And when you look
at your playing to win, right like, that's pretty indicative
of whether or not you win or lose. But with
that said, you love the fight in our team because
even and when you look at the plane the win
and we missed out on a couple of scenario statistically,
you still find yourself in overtime at the end of
the game with a chance to win.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
No, it just didn't far away that.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Time, coach. As we've we've talked about how the defense,
you know, played lights out and the offense seemed to struggle.
Just seemed like it was hard for them to get
in the rhythm. Now, credit Mallard Creek. They weren't the
biggest team, but they seemed pretty quick and and and
they were getting they were getting to us.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
They have a ton of team speed, and they were
really effective with their front seven, and they're really good
in coverage. Right like we we I think, like you
said it best, it was hard to get in rhythm offensively,
and that's really kind of the.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Word you always want to use, is rhythm.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
On offense, we have eleven guys playing as one, working
your way down the field, and they give them credit,
they did a good job eliminating explosive plays. We still
had two of them that led the scores. But you
had the big play by Carson ko who I thought
played a really good game. He took down and gave
a chance to score, and Matt made a great throat
to Landon. Adams made a heck of a catch in

(09:04):
the corner. Of the end zone. And then Roman Mason,
the jack of all trades who's kind of like our
Swiss army knife man. I mean, he can just do
it all. He took a he broke a tackle and
had a big play and then he ended up scoring
a touchdown that same drive. So on those drives where
we had explosive plays, we scored, right. And that's the
lesson that you try to get through to the players
is explosive plays are so important in scoring points and

(09:27):
the same thing on defense. And you can eliminate explosive
plays you make an offense try to stay in rhythm
for ten twelve plays.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
That's really hard to do.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
So that that's kind of like in a nutshell, that's
what happened in the game, right, Like we didn't make
enough explosive plays be able to score.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
And coach, we really didn't have many. I mean we
did have a couple three and outs, but there were
times we kind of moved the ball some we just
couldn't sput it out at that next level if you will,
you know, certainly, you know the offense just you know
wasn't in that rhythm. You know, you're throwing a couple
of drop balls or some catchable balls that guys normally

(10:02):
just they've shown they've just caught, and it just it
seemed like that was a little contagious, you know, had
some of those balls get caught, drive keep going. You know,
who knows what happens. It's just you know, it just
kind of just seemed like everything was just tough seletting.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yeah, and I have nothing but confidence and our guys
are gonna bounce back from this past week and they're
gonna move on there. They're ticked off about their performance
as well, and I have nothing of confidence that our
guys are gonna respond the right way and come out,
come out swing in these next couple of games.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Well, and of course, you know, Matt's had very three
very strong games. Say maybe he just struggled this game,
but then you know, the pick six happened. You know,
the other thing was you know, and then the defense
really kept us right in there, and then you know,
we came back and answered and got it the overtime.
We did what we needed to do. And uh, coach,
I'll be honest that that last sequence of like the

(10:51):
last five minutes of the fourth quarter, it was like,
I mean, and it seemed like it was all on
our side of the field, which was like uneasy, like
you know, let's let's get it on their side of
the field. And then you know it's not as you know,
one play or nervous or something like that. And you
know that just uh that was just a lot of
back and forth and uh it just seemed like the

(11:12):
clock just wouldn't run out.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Yeah, And and you made the point about field position.
So that's like the fifth bullet point of our plane
to win is like where what's your average uh starting
position on the field? Right, Like, the further back you are,
the less likely you are to score. The closer you
start to the goal line, the more likely you are
to score. So when you look at that analysis, we
were minus ten off what Mallard Creek was throughout the game,

(11:36):
which then leads to make it tough to score. But
I think a lot of that was in the fourth
quarter because in the first half, I thought we actually
had a pretty good field position and we got the
ball across if you just sputter it out, couldn't close
it out. And then in the fourth quarter it was
it was tough sledding from that standpoint, trying to just
flip the field and again give our defense credit. Give

(11:57):
like our d line Ricky Thomas, right like, Ricky Thomas
comes down with two picks. Who is a receiver that
moved over to a corner during camp and he's having
a heck of a year and is a crazy, crazy
high talent. You talk about the front seven with Jodah Hayes,
Chris Harris is playing out of his mind and he's
given like dominant performances weekend and week out. Thomas Kirky,

(12:19):
I think was played of the game and had three
and a half TFLs. And then you add Will Atkins
to the mix, you add Lucas Sternberg to the mix.
Right like, our linebackers played well and we're flying around.
So I just can't give enough praise to the front
seven because it was like more of like a running
game from that same point in creating TFLs and our

(12:39):
DB's in the secondary eliminating any explosive plays in the
passing game. They did a great job. And this really
just came down to one play at the end, and
they made one and we did it right, so we
got to learn from it. We got a Kaizen and
bounce back and respond the right way heading into the
rest of our schedule.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Coach, I think in the last six minutes and thirty
six seconds, there were six different possessions this far, going
back and forth, and it was just like, you know,
and honestly, I just my thought was when in one
of each one of those possessions, I thought, Okay, hey,
we're in a tie game and we got the ball,
and I mean, we got a chance to go down
and win the game, and I mean just unfortunately it

(13:17):
didn't happen, you know. And then to even cap it off,
Ricky Thomas gets that interception and he starts running down
the field. How close was he to maybe breaking I mean,
it seemed like he was gonna be able to just
slice through some people and get in the open field,
but obviously he got run out of bounds.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
You know.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
The other thing is what if what if that happened
then there was a minute left or something and all
of a sudden we got momentum, and it just it just
wasn't in the cards.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
I know, it was.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
It was a crazy good play by him, and he
started tiptoing down the sidelines and he thought like, oh man,
he might go and he's like I said, he's a
former siver and he's a good receiver too, so he's
dangerous with the ball in his hands, and and he's
fast as well.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
So we thought we had a chance to do that.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
And then, like I said, we we we have to
play more complimentary football because we had plays made on
one side of the ball, and then we got to
make sure we respond with the other side to make
sure we're giving those guys rest and we're we're holding
up our endo the bargain.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
So it comes out of that.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
But like I said, I think we've had a good
week of practice. I think guys are mentally ready to
roll and they're ready to put this one behind them
and move on to the next one.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Coach, I, like many others, I hate to lose. But
I will quantify that by saying I don't want to
say if there's a game to lose, that that that
one versus the ones coming up is uh, if we
have to let one get away, that that that would
be the one I would circle.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Yeah, I mean in my mind, we.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Don't want to get away.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Yeah, we don't want to do that.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
But like there's no in my mind, Like I don't
like taking moral victories like anyone else, but we want
to win the game. But the ultimate goal, I guess
to your point is to be the best version of
yourself and play the best football possible throughout the year
and b peaking at the right time, so all your
goals are still attainable, right, like from that standpoint, right,

(15:05):
so you keep the main thing, the main thing, and
you just keep pushing forward from that standpoint, like you
gotta get like in the NFL, right like, you lose games,
right like that happens now with college football. That's gonna
be more of a reality too, with a college football playoff.
But you move on, you learn from it, and you
bounce back the next week.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Coach ed we pulled that game out, probably would still
be some feelings of we got things to work on,
oh without questioning, yeah, you know, we didn't have it.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
And here's the thing about like when you're a coach,
I don't you're always chasing perfection with the idea that
you're never gonna reach it. But if you keep pushing
towards it, you're gonna be pretty and good. So no
matter what, like it doesn't matter if it's a blowout,
it doesn't matter if it's a close game. You you
always have that mentality of we have to get better
in these areas so we can keep pushing the program

(15:53):
in this team forward. So to your point, no matter
what the outcome of the game is, the process is
still we have to continue to get better and I
think that helps the players to take some of that
pressure off where it's not do or die all the time.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
And two years ago in Ironton, we were on the
other side of that corn where we played very, very
well and we had a very frustrated Good Council team
YEP that thought they were going to come in and
roll us and they had to go out of town
with that geez, just you know, just they could they
couldn't get it done. But it is what it is.
So the Crusaders it's still very formidable three and one record.

(16:31):
And now the fun part of the season comes in
where everyone likes these next three games and we'll talk
about that as we will be playing the Blue team
on Friday night. As you're listening to the Bert Bathy
Andy Show, sponsored by Comy and Shepherd Realtors and heard
here on w MOE and the Moler Broadcasting Network, The

five one three four eight four zero six sixty six.

(17:15):
Go Big Mo. You're tuned in to w MOE and
the Molar Broadcasting Network and more specifically the Bert Bathyani Show,

(17:36):
which features the head coach of the football Molar Crusaders.
That's Bert Bathyany. I'm Jeff Schneidel with Comy and Shepherd
Realtors who sponsors the show and coach. Uh, this is
a this is a game that uh, we'll say outside
the team, everyone kind of in the Molar Nation really
looks forward to, uh to seeing the day to make

(17:58):
sure Number one, they don't have a wedding plans or
parties or things they make they make sure this is open.
But what now complicates it is I can only imagine
yourself and and coaches and everything. I mean, I'm getting
a lot of calls. Can you get me a ticket?
And can you find me a ticket, like you're like, yeah,
I got in my back pocket. But you know what,

(18:19):
I think that just really shows the how many people
from both sides and I'll say outside know that this
is a big game against you know, with two quality
teams going out.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
But that's what makes high school football so special? Or
are those rivalries, those those interconference rivalries that have been
going on for years and you know, you got dads, brothers, uncles,
cousins that that relived the glory days and talk about
like what happened when they played and then they're going
to be at their game and they expect the same
thing to happen. That's what makes it special. And that's

(18:53):
what makes each school special from the standpoint, there's so
much pride in tradition, in the athletics, and in the
outcome of that game. That's what you live for. Like
these are the moments that you go through all the
winter conditioning for, you do the six ams, you tuck
in your shirt, your toes are behind the line, Like
I'm eating the right way, I'm not staying out late,
I'm going to bed early. This is why you do it,

(19:15):
like for these games and we're not downplaying this game
at all. But to our players, nothing needs to be
said to them. They know it, right, they know. So
you just try to focus on the task in hand
and be the best version of yourself and keep trying
to get better each and every week and each and
every day at practice. So by the time Friday comes
at seven o'clock, you just go.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Play and coach. Everyone knows this is this is the
first of three GCL games, and honestly, the winner puts
themselves in the driver's seat for the league. So it's
been no different. The one thing I do like about
our schedule is we're gonna we're gonna click these off
three in a row. We've had times in the past
where it's been, you know, tenth game of the year.
Are they getting mixed up? But I just like that

(19:56):
we have a GCL focus Blue team, red team, Purple team.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
So you know what our guys like is like, it's
all Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Cincinnati. Yeah, that's what they like right now, right,
Because we had four way in Indiana and Ironton, Ohio. Right,
so now you get the rattle off. In the next
five games, four out of five of them are in Cincinnati,
which definitely feels good for our players.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
A little shorter bus ride, Yeah, a little bit shorter,
all right, coach. Well, anyway, Sat next comes in three
and one. They beat with Row last week and on
you know, the week before when we beat East Central.
Our game kind of ended early. I was able to
listen to the end of the Saint X game, which, honestly,
Indie Cathedral had them dead to rights and they got
the ball back, and credit to them and their quarterback,

(20:42):
Chase Herb Street, was able to move them down and
get them in a position that they could that they
could win the game. So that's they have three in
a row. Obviously, Herbstreet looks a little different than he
did last year. Uh and it seems like their pass
and run yardage are pretty close per game. So and
their leading rusher is Herb Street. So now we get

(21:02):
kind of a running quarterback situation, which no secret to you, obviously,
but it just seems like they're they have a They're
a little different than they've been in years past.

Speaker 4 (21:12):
I mean, they're always gonna be a good football team regardless,
if you know, that's just who they are, and that's
what the gCO is, right, Like, you play formed opponents
week in and week out. I think that the thing
that I admire about him the most is you can
just tell he gives a ton of effort. You can
tell he has the respect of his teammates, I think,
and he just plays hart right like he plays hard.

(21:32):
And when you have a quarterback that does that, right, like,
you're gonna be pretty good on offense.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Right. So he had a really good game against Cathedral.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
I think he was player of the Week and had
five touchdowns that week and kind of put the team
on his back from that sandpoint and led him to
a victory. And they're always gonna be good on defense
no matter what. So no, they know us, we know them,
and it's gonna be a good matchup when we playing
Friday night.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Well on to herb Streets credit he I mean, he
basically got removed as the starter last year, and as
you said, he's earned back everything and he's kind of
their guy. So and I know we know that, and
we're gonna we're gonna, we're gonna go get the guy. So, uh, coach, Uh,
you know we're gonna get ready here for our our
g c L run. And uh, no better team than

(22:14):
than the bombers to uh to take it on. I mean,
it's gonna be a packed house. It looks like it's
gonna be a little bit warm, but uh, you know.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
We thought the heat wave was over two weeks ago
and it hasn't slowed down one bit.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
So yeah, and.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
You threaten me about Jenson with with bad weather.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
You love to talk about the weather, like, yeah, you
love it.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
You know, Hey, maybe I should have been weather man.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Don't know.

Speaker 2 (22:36):
You probably remember Ir Joe Fisher writing backwards on the board.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
You do?

Speaker 2 (22:40):
