Speaker 1 (00:00):
Success in life.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Coman, what is it you want? Give your best effort,
show me what you got.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
If you want to be a success, you've gotta have.
It's the Burt Pathyany Coaches Shoe presented by Komy and
Shepherd Reelders. And here's your host, Jeff Seed, head football coach,
Burt Pathy and.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
W Moe and the Molar Broadcasting Network present the Burt
Bathyani Show, which features the head coach of the Molar
Football Crusaders, Bert Bathyani. The show is sponsored by Komy
and Shepherd Reeltors and I'm Jeff Schneiedel class of nineteen
eighty four, also with Comy and Shepherd Reeltors, and it's
always great to catch up with our favorite football coach,
(00:41):
that is coach Bert Bathyani. Coach. How are we doing today?
Speaker 1 (00:45):
I'm doing good. We're in this new new broadcasting studio.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Brand new. It's like our maiden voyage here, you know,
like the Jefferson's.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
We're moving on up.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yes, yes, we're out of that old little dinky, tiny
cramd in. Now we got all this space. And what's
scary is is hopefully we don't have to do a
video of this as well, so we'll keep this just audio.
But what a cool setup it is here at Mohler
High School.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Yeah no, we're on the podcast and people can't see
what we see right now. But just this studio that
we have that Barrett has at his disposal, this is
a game changer. I mean, Barrett's already the best in
the business, and to give him a facility like this
and the way he's going to incorporate our students into
being a part of you know, w MOE. I can't
(01:33):
wait to see what's going to happen. I mean, I
think we do a good job already, but I think
this is gonna skyrocket.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
This coach. I'm almost like twice as old as you.
Class of eighty four. I mean we came here, you know,
eight oh five to whatever it was two forty five,
and it was seven classes. It wasn't classes like this
and just like an awesome I mean, let's face it,
going to molars like going to a college.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah, I mean, it's just that way, and that credit
goes a lot to administration. And you know, you know,
Marshall had this and this was his vision and this
is unbelievable. It fits the real learning environment. That we
try to create here. And when you just go around
our classes, it's very interaction based that it's not your
(02:17):
traditional classroom. And that's how men learn that they they
learn differently and it's not that's not a knock on
anyone else, but like young men becoming men, they learn
differently and this environment just it just fertilizes that and
allows them to grow to be you know, there's men
and mall that we talk about.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
It's just real learning.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
That's what it is here.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
So uh and and a beautiful view of Mary as
the courtyard said.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Talk about that, that's unbelievable. So I was just like,
right before we got on here, I was talking about
I've only been here for you know, a little over
a year and a half, and the amount of growth
I've seen just from a facility standpoint has been unbelievable.
I mean when I got here, the the old courtyard
was still here right like, this wasn't even ye, this
wasn't built yet.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
And Mary transitioned to the front and now she's transitioned
to the back.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
And that courtyard is gorgeous. It's unbelievable done. The auditorium
is unbelievable. The new basketball court looks sweet and then
this is just breathtaking.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
So when you basically you folks out there listening, if
you haven't been up the Muller in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Yeah, you got to come check it out. It's some time. Yeah.
All the alums that haven't been back in a minute,
we've had some come back in the last couple of
weeks and they their their jaws just at the floor
when they see this, and you would be very proud
of the direction that Mueller's going.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
It's going in a great direction. Speaking of going in
a great direction, your football team eight and one and coach,
here we are. We're one game, we're one day away
from the end of the regular season.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
And that was quick. Yeah you know what, Like I
was saying, that's our stafford, our players yesterday is just
how fast this is going. But you know, our mindset,
you know, hasn't been a ten week season. It's been
much more than that.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
So we we but each week in order to get.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
To that right. So we always you know, from a
global perspective, you you look at you know where you
want to go, but then you shrink it down to
the micro perspective and you just focus on each individual play,
each individual practice session, and the practice then then that
week and that opponent. So we've been locked in on Miskegan,
who is a great football team. Ship in Yeah, like
(04:33):
seventh in the country, high school all time. Unbelievable. So
we're gonna have our hands, you know, you know, hands
full of these guys, and you know, we get a
long trip up. But you know, the one thing we
always we say two things in our program. It's not
a big deal unless you make it a big deal.
And then don't tell me our rockey the sea is
just bring the ship home. So it doesn't matter what happens.
(04:54):
You know, we have a job to do and we're
going to go accomplish that.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Coach, let's talk about that trip because obviously a six
hour trip, you got to have a lot of planning.
And uh, I don't know who came up with the idea,
but why why don't you tell them how our trip
will unfold on Friday for the young men.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah, so we didn't get this game scheduled till I
think July. Yeah, it might have been. It might have
been the fourth of July, because I remember we were
in conversations. We finally got the deal done, and I
remember being more aesthetic than ever on the fourth of July,
just the fact that we had ten games, right, and
our guys are gonna.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Have played out. I mean, I'm thinking, thank goodness we
got that locked in because exactly we could have fallen
down to eight game.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Yeah, that would have been terrible. So that was just
that wasn't even a thought that crossed my mind. We
had to get ten games, so we got this game.
It's a six hour trip and they'll be come to
see us next year, but halfway where.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
They are coming down.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, yes, it'll be good. So we'll be traveling up
to Notre Dame and we'll be stopping there to tour
around and give our guys a cool experience. I mean,
you know, it's a long trip, right, We're playing an
opponent that we don't know, right, So I want to
make this as you know, as cool as it can
possibly be. I want to give these guys a memory
(06:05):
that that that will last forever. You know what stinks
is it is a smaller travel roster than you know,
most weeks, and that's because the travel and everything. But
the guys that we're gonna go visit Notre Dame and
tour around their football facilities. Were gonna see the grod,
We're going to see the Dome, We're gonna see touchdown Jesus.
And what's cool is their DFO actually went to the
(06:26):
same high school as me, so we knew each other
from that standpoint as well. And obviously Notre Dame recruits
a lot of our players and a lot of our yeah,
Chad Bowden who was at Cincinnati with Marcus Freeman, and
obviously they recruit a lot of our guys, and there's
a lot of connections back and forth between, you know,
with coach Faust and everything. But I think this is
(06:48):
a really cool experience. We're gonna have a lot of
guys in our team who love Notre Dame. They've been
up and seen a million football games there, so experience, right,
others have not just a bucket list. I've never been
the South then, so I'm really excited to get up
there and just be with our team, be their coaches,
and tour around and just it's gonna be.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Interesting all your football background and coaching. So he just
never just think about that.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
I've been kind of busy on Saturdays in the last
you know, fifteen years of my life, so I've only
been in the three college football games of my entire life.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Well, you could have gone and recruited it. Well, that's right,
they didn't have the portal. Then you couldn't go recruit
players from other teams.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, that was illegal. But I've never been up to
a game, and a lot of our players haven't either.
So we'll get to see the stadium and it'll be
really cool.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
So a two hour ride to Indy, get out, stretch,
get out, moving around, and then two hours to Notre
Dame and coach, I think the players are going to
be like rideing high that last two hours after after
going and seeing what Notre Dame's about.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
I think it'd be cool. Yeah, the bus are gonna
drop us off and we're just going to walk around
as a team and you know, just enjoy the campus.
Right Like, So there really isn't like a plan, Like
we have some some items we want to check off,
but there really isn't like an itinerary from that standpoint.
We just like to get out and check it out
and be together and we'll get a team prayer and
(08:09):
the rock and roll up to the skid.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
That's a that's a cool experience. And then and then
you just got the ride back. But you know, everyone
can nap a little bit and and check out.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
So we take care of business ye the way we should,
then I'll be it'll be an easy ride home.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
If we don't take care of business, I don't want
to be on that bus anyway. All right, coach. The
last thing here in the intro. As far as we've
you know, we've we've gone through the season, we've locked
up the number one seed. So does I mean we
know what that's about. We know what the expanded playoffs,
but uh is that kind of immaterial at this point
because we just got to stay focused on finishing out
(08:46):
the job.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Yeah, the number one seed means nothing to me. I
don't want to sound disrespectful, but we weren't the number
one seed last year and we still went. And then
two years ago we were the number one seed and
we still went. So you got to win six football
games to get to where you want to be, right,
and we got to start off with you know, I'm
not looking ahead, but you know, everyone like we're in
the playoffs, but like after this week, you have that
(09:08):
first round and that's all We're focused on after Friday
and we just gotta you just gotta take care of
business and whatever opponent we get, that's how you gotta be.
And that's our mindset. So like the number one seed, like, yeah,
that's cool, but it honestly, that means.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Nothing to me any different vibe. I mean, as far
as last year, at this time, we're five and four.
This year, we're one overtime away from being unscathed. So yeah,
I mean, but it's just just I mean, business as usual.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Yeah, Like, because my mindset still is we want to
be playing our best brand of ball in the playoffs
right when it matters, like like the ten game schedule
in the regular season, that's to prepare for the playoffs.
So even though last year the record, the result wasn't
as good as what the result is now, the goal
is still the same and we still have to you know,
(09:57):
light up and play. They got eleven guys, We got
eleven guys, and we got up. We gonna win the game.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
So and while we haven't won the ultimate goal in
the state, I mean, we are three time defending regional champs.
There's seventeen other schools that would love to have that
feather in their caps. Can't take it for granted. We
just got it. We got to go and get done
what we got to do.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
No matter who we play, we're gona get everyone's best shot.
They would love to knock us off. And you know
that's that's the burden of you know what we have
right now. So we got to become right to roll,
and we got to be prepared every single day. And
that's just our mindset. Take one day at a time
and hopefully we're improving every single day to put out
the best Moler football team that we possibly can. There
(10:35):
we go.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
That is the head coach of the Football Crusaders, Bert
bathy Annie is We're going to take our first break

Welcome back to w MOOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network
as you're listening to the Bert Bathiani Show, which features
the head coach of the eight to one GCL champion
Molar Fighting Crusader Football team. Show is sponsored by Komy
and Shepherd Realtor's Coach. Senior Day out at West Claremont.
Beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky. I mean
(11:47):
someone set the thermostat like perfectly. I mean, I'm sure
it was warm enough everybody to get real loose, but
not unbearably hot. And just what a beautiful day to
take care of the seniors.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Beautiful day it was. It was awesome. We got to
honor our seniors. And it's so weird at this time
because you know, we had a senior dinner I think
it was Wednesday night, and you know you're there celebration
of the seniors. It almost feels like a banquet, but
you're the midway point, right, So it was like what
we're feeling, and that's that's kind of like our mindsts like, hey, seniors,
we're going to celebrate you. Hey, we love you, like
(12:20):
what an honor, Like three time g c O champs,
they've accomplished so many things, but like, we still have
a job that the job has not done yet, right, Like,
we still have a task that we have to accomplish.
So it was some hugs and hugs, you know, beforehand,
and then it was strict to business right away once
we got done with those uh uh celebrations.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
And I heard one of the sat Ed's coach, of
all the teams they picked for their Senior Day, they
picked you. He kept telling the guy, and I'm like, dude,
it's the last game of the year. It's a traditions.
Look at our cleats. We don't do our cleats like
this every game. It was kind of I was just
kind of chuckling. I was in the end zone just
looking at him and he's kept saying that, and I'm
just like, if.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
That, if that's a way to get mot of it,
that's fine.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
So it was kind of interesting. Anyway.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
I mean, shoot, in Michigan, Ohis State, they do their
senior Day against each other.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, they looked at the schedule. Let's
take the easy one, yeah, right exactly. Anyway, we we
come out, we win the coin flip and we defer,
we take. We decided to take it in the second
half and coach, we came out and they come out.
They came out with kind of like that reverse or
kind of a crazy play and Marino Middleton basically jumped
(13:27):
it made the tackle. What the tone setter right there?
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Absolutely, you started the TfL and I think that was
our only like three in out of the game.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Maybe yep, I'm not sure on that, but that was
that was it.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
We didn't have a ton but they like we had
a three and out there and maybe like that two
minute drive before they scored, I think there was a
four and out. But yeah, that big tone setter. You
start off behind the sticks and then now that changes
the process of the play caller and then we they punt,
and I tell you what, one young man that is
(13:58):
like the unsung here right now is Carson ko on
the returns, because that was a big emphasis of improvement
was fielding all kicks, and his aggressiveness on punts has
increased tenfold in the last couple of weeks. He's aggressive
to go return it gets hit fifteen yard penalty for
midfield that put us in prime real estate position. To
(14:20):
go score and then that's what they did.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Coach. I know you don't listen to the games, but
people who do listen, they know when we're gonna get
a punt. I say, I don't care where we get
the ball, just secure the darn thing. And I mean
I don't. It doesn't matter because if you don't do that,
you got problems. So, yes, he's done it. He's done
a great job with that. I think the only one
he might have lost was where what one of our
guys got pushed into him?
Speaker 1 (14:41):
Or yeah, and that wasn't that wasn't even that's not
on him, that's on our that's on me and our
coaches of not coaching that situation well enough. Because it
was a short punt. He ran up to get it.
We should have had a poison call so the dB
can get away from it and doesn't run in. He
didn't know about that, right and in his mind it's
like so it was just a slight like loss of judgment.
(15:03):
But that's that's on me.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
That's what Maybe that comes into play later and we
learned from yep, because that happened.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Against Ignacious and then you know, so like now a
great Now we can kuies in we can get better,
and you know that won't happen again.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
So we get the ball, we go, We get we
basically driving a nine play drive thirty nine yards. Matt
connects with jove On Love and uh, we're on the board. First.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
That was a heck of a play too. I mean
talk about like the first two drives against that. That's
a really good defense too. I think coach Papas over
there does a phenomenal job. But the first two drives
and nine play drive and then I think it was
like an eighteen play driver that Like, we didn't have
a ton of big plays, which is uncharacteristic for us,
but we grinded it out and we executed when we
(15:51):
needed to in crucial situations. That third and long that
Javon was huge, got Matt confidence and then I think
that that's down that Javon might have been on third
down two I can't remember, but they goes third and
six yep, so we call it a play. They they
covered it really well, so Matt went opposite. They covered that,
(16:12):
so we went back to the secondary read. Javon gets
open and that's where the touchdown came. But really unbelievable job.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
There, coach. You know, one thing that was interesting with uh,
you know Matt. Matt started with an incomplete pass, which
he's had that it seems like in a lot of games.
But it's almost like setting, you know, just just very interesting.
So anyway, so we get that drive and we get
(16:43):
the ball, we get the edge, gets the ball back
and basically they put together a four play touchdown drive
and tied it at seven and and game was on.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Yep. Yeah, and that's what you expect from good football teams.
And they're a really good football team. They're gonna respond
just how we expect our guys to respond. But they
have a receiver over there that I think it was
number eight. I think that was the Yeah, we kept
calling it was really really good.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Yeah he was.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
He had two touchdowns running to receiving, like he's a
really really good player.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Well yeah, and we'll talk about that as well. But
you know, coach, they you know, they come down and
tie the game and then we get the ball back
our second possession fourteen plays, sixty nine yards and interestingly enough,
I mean we took seven minutes and thirty eight seconds
off the clock. So I mean, realistically, we have our
second possession and we're into the second quarter, yep, And
(17:36):
I mean it was just like, you know, I know,
it seems like nowadays a big thing with football as
is your number of possessions. I mean, you always knew that,
at least over the years, but all of a sudden,
that just seems like to be such a thing. And
all of a sudden, is this going to be a
game of really limited possessions.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Yeah, So it kind of seemed like that, and then
the second half is a little bit different. But you know,
great job by our offensive line of being consider and
throughout that drive and our guys making plays and they
needed to, Like we had a crucial fourth and one
that Dante ware just straight fought for that extra yard
and he is such a tough runner. So it was definitely,
(18:13):
you know, a production by committee across the entire team.
Everyone played their hand in it and that play Dante
unbelievable job the at the first down because we were
on our own territory, Like that was a big play.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Absolutely absolutely, So Edge gets the ball back, they I
think they picked up maybe one first down and then
they had third down. They throw an incomplete pass and
you know, Lucas Peenberg. I mean, you can't follow the
guy for hustling, and that was right there. I mean,
I thought it was kind of a borderline call. We'll
talk about later when it kind of the roles were reversed,
(18:45):
but that keeps their drive alive. They kicked the field goal.
Now it's now it's fourteen to ten, and coach, I'll
be honest, that's huge.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
That's a huge deal because red zone defense is critical.
And if you look at the close games that we've
had our red zone off, we've been able to score
our red zone defense, we've been able to get a stop.
That's the same thing that happened against say Next in
the first half. They had a chance to tie the
game going at halftime, they kicked the field goal. They're
down four, Yep, we go score, right they So red
(19:15):
zone efficiency is huge in the game of football, and
that's kind of been like the tail of the tape
throughout this year. So a big time stop right there,
that was huge.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Right, So they get the field goal, it's fourteen to ten,
and I'll be honest, for forty one to go first half,
I'm sitting there and I'm going this is where we
take over the game. Because we're gonna drive, we're gonna score,
and then we're gonna get the ball in the second
half and we're gonna make it a three score game.
Well it didn't play out like that, and we got
sticking three I own, yeah, and all of a sudden, Yeah,
(19:46):
they get the ball back. I mean, was that that
whole sequence. I don't want to say frustrating, but it
seemed like we were controlling the whole game, We're being
very methodical, and then all of a sudden it kind
of got away from us. Sudden at halftime, we're down
seventeen to fourteen.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Yeah, that's frustrating. Like you're coming out and you're you're
playing pretty well and then you know, you get stifled
a little bit, right, Yeah, that's frustrated. We're not used
to that happening either. So but we get a three
and out. We don't really take a lot of time
off the clock. We give them an opportunity and then
we punt and not a great punt, and you know,
they get great field position. Which that's something that we've
(20:24):
emphasized this week, is winning in the kicking game, because
we did not do a good job on kickoff whatsoever
in that game. And our punting is usually I think
pretty good, not necessarily against at Eds, but we had
two punts that didn't really go that far and all,
and it gave them great field position. Guess what they scored. Yeah,
they scored right like, so we have to be able
(20:46):
to flip the field and make them go the whole distance.
On our defense, I think our defense is really really good.
It doesn't matter how good you are on defense. If
you're getting the ball to fifty, your chances of scoring
increased to a lot of pressure.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Yeah, it's a lot of pressure. So coach, they they
basically did a nine play forty one yard drive. They
took three minutes and six seconds off the clock. I mean,
you know, seven seconds left, We're not gonna be able
to do anything. I mean, was the halftime tone kind
of let's stay on course? Was there some frustration?
Speaker 1 (21:19):
Was it?
Speaker 2 (21:19):
And I kind of just thought we weren't We were
controlling it and we were playing well, we weren't playing bad.
It just seemed like we weren't playing like our game.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
It's like you either can be the dictator or you
can get dictated too. And I'm not saying they were
dictating us. It just seemed like we were controlling things
and we had our we had our moment, and it
didn't happen, and then they kind of capitalized on.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Well, when you play against a quality opponent, like saying that,
you're gonna have up and downs in the game, and
usually the team that handles the downs the best are
usually the ones that win, I think, And at that
point we weren't handling it as good as them, right,
Like they came back, like, we hold the field goal
and then we have a chance to really take a
lead and we don't. Then we have a bad punt,
(22:04):
and then they go score with you know, really on
their last play, because after that they were gonna kick
a field goal right and we'd still have the lead.
But maybe that was the wake up call that we needed.
And you know, in the locker room, there wasn't like
a bunch of yelling or screaming. Actually, we have a
mature football team. No one really said a word. We
all knew what we had to do, and they just
kind of went about their business. We made our adjustments,
(22:26):
and we had a stone cold mentality and we just
went out and attacked. So we knew we were getting
the ball back. So we were confident there and give
coach McClain, our special teams coordinator, a lot of credit,
who's done an awesome job with our kickoff return unit,
which is really a special unit because we have four
or five guys that go back there that could take
They could return at eight HU right, I mean, Carson's
(22:48):
like our main guy, but Landon Adams has a touchdown,
Chris Bradley has a touchdown. You can kick at the Folkler,
Javon or Roman and they're probably gonna do something with it.
And then so we kick at the Carson or they
kick at the Carson and Carson shot out of a
cannon in and I'll tell you what, I want to
love up Matt Fogler on that play because Matt didn't
(23:08):
have a catch in the game and he's, you know,
one of our great receivers. He busts his tail from
the opposite sideline and leads the way to get a
hat on the kicker, and we should have scored. We
should have scored on that play. But Carson a lot
of credit returns that down and a round like the
inside the forty I think right, great field positions. So
(23:29):
we got momentum. We think we're going to score, and
the next play we turn it over unfortunate, and you
know that's the way it goes, right, like we big
momentum changer and they get the ball.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Back, right, you know, we had first intendant to thirty eight,
and it just seemed like we came out and all
of a sudden, it's like, here comes our game. I mean,
fumbles happened. That happens. It wasn't he wasn't being caroless.
It got knocked out.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
A great playing got his helmet, run the football.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
So they get the ball and they go and all
of a sudden, now we're down ten points and it's
like and I'm like, okay, well we just got unleashed
the uh unleashed the animal in us. And it just
seemed like that, you know, we were kind of against
the wall. There's so much game left, but it just
seemed like we turned something on.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Well, then they kick off and there's a miscommunication between
Chris and Carson.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Too.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Right. Then we have to like fight like crazy, like
salvage some yards. And then you're like, good lord, guys,
say come on, a we're gonna fall apart. But our
our resiliency has to be greater than our resistance, and
I think this team has done a good job of
that this year. When we faced versity, right like, right
when it looks like, oh, man, like are they gonna fold,
they just like to flip a switch and they turn
it on right. So I think we get the we
(24:40):
get a first down and.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Then yeah we had the ball.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
We got the ball to nineteen, yeah, which is not
gonna feel positioned, and then we get the first down.
And then on second down, that's where we hit Cooper.
And that was a play that we we we we
put in a couple of weeks ago, but we didn't
know if it was going to be open against these guys,
and that was something that we revisited on the sideline.
So give Matt and all those guys a ton of
(25:05):
credit to like just go execute a play that there
weren't a lot of reps in during the week and
he just off to the race and you saw the
town of Cooper. McCutcheon was was that.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
I know, you, you know, give Matt Maddy p the
you know, great credit with that, But could you also
give Maddy f a lot of credit because you said
he didn't have any catches, But was there just a
really concentration on taking our two big receivers out of
the game, and did that create that that opening.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
They there was a we figured they were gonna play
it that way, like they showed a lot of press
and then they were slow bailing out and they were
doing that on Matt Roman and Javon right like, so
like we have a ton of really good wide receivers.
So that was kind of like the deal. And then
like each game, you just never know who's gonna step up, right,
Like we just kind of let we prepare each week
(25:56):
of what we think is gonna happen, right, and then
what actually happened happens right, and then you got to
adjust right, like every single week. It's the same thing
like when you game plan, you know, like against good teams,
like when you get like a Saint Axe an Older
and a Saint Ads, you're gonna get different looks and
you're gonna prepare what you think, but then what they
actually game plan against you is what you see and
(26:18):
then you got to adjust right.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
So well, it was there, and I know, Rob, folks,
he meant it was like kind of a little precursor
because He's like that middle is open, it's open, it's
there for the taking. And all of a sudden, I mean,
it wasn't. It wasn't. Sixty seconds later.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
There was Yeah, it was that.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Uh the play call obviously or was that a read?
I mean, was it just Hey, that's gonna be. There's
the combination of everything, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Combination of anything. And then two really good players making
a play. That's it. That's the biggest thing. It's two
really good players making plays.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Right, And it just seems like Matt has a really
good recognition, recognition of what they're taking away and what
they're gonna give us, and and he just seems to
just get it done.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
He's really cerebral, and he knows exactly what we're trying
to accomplish each play and has a really good understanding
of like what they're trying to take away and then
what's our CounterPunch, right, So he does a great job.
That one guy. We forgot to mention Land and Adams
that second touchdown, yep, talk about like an unbelievable throw
by Matt, unbelievable catch by Land, and he was out
(27:24):
the last couple of weeks. Just oh my god, he's
such a good player. Uh he and he makes catches
like that and practice all the time.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
That gets stud So we go down and we score,
and then we come back and you could feel the
momentum coming and all of a sudden, a big play
by Lincoln Murphy with a with a pickoff.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Huge playcause they did a double move and they had
our guy beat Lincoln. You know, Lincoln's one of those
players that I think has really good instinctual awareness in
the back end. You saw that pick It didn't count,
but the pick at Elder turned back like that's a
heck of a play, right, I mean, just a heck
of a play. But he did the same thing right there,
and you know that's I mean, that's a momentum change.
(28:09):
And then we get the ball and we go down,
we score, We go to Cooper again and he had
the hot hand this week, so he was getting the ball.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
But before it went to Cooper, I thought, uh Gray
low coach. Oh yeah, I mean he came in and
I think it was a third down and he ran
and I mean it looked like he was gonna get stopped,
and he just bullied them and he made sure he
got the first down. That wasn't the only time he
did it, because I think then he had a two
yard carry and I think he came back and had
(28:37):
another fourteen yard carry, and he was like shot out
of a cannon.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Yeah, And you see that we have really good backs, right,
like and just like our receivers are running backs of
the same way. He's like someone has a hot hand
and they go right, Like Dante had the hot hand
earlier in the season, and then Tyler Johnson had the
hot hand, and then in this game he was great though, right,
And those guys make and Deacon had the hot hand
last week, right. So all those guys just compete their
(29:02):
tails off weekend and week out of practice, and they
all make each other better. And that's the secret sauce
of our football team is there's that competition between the
positions and even though their buddies are all competing with
each other, and it just raises like your level of
ability each and every week and then when your numbers called,
like be ready to capture it. And like Grayla and
(29:23):
Cooper did right, like unbelieve with job. But I'm glad
you brought that play up because they ran a twist.
Linebacker was freeing the whole Grayla made a miss and
then the line of scrimmage he ran over the safety
for the first down, which gave us even more momentum
to go score.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Well, and just a backtrack, I know Dante's back in
the mix.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
A great seeing that. And then also Tyler Joscelyn kind
of was setting the tone a little bit early with
with some hard runs a couple of he didn't get
maybe many yards, but just just tough, you know, picking
things up here here and there.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
And I know Grayla was getting the carries in the
second half. That wasn't a knock against down there, Tyler,
like they were playing well. Yeah, they were playing well,
just like that game. It just ended up being great though.
That's it.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Yep, good good, good time to plug him in there.
So so we get back the lead. Now we're up
twenty eight to twenty four, and then you know, Edge
gets the ball back. They had a pretty good return
back out to their own forty five.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Yeah, and that was like the frustration thing is our
kickoff team needs to get better. We had wait too
many mistackles avoiding blocks like that unit has to improve
and we just got to get better on that unit.
Because that's that's just effort and attitude, and you know,
we corrected that this week. So I expect that team
to really like come out with some energy and some
(30:38):
juice this week and be and with a lot of improvement.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Now with it being Senior Day, their first play was
a tackle for loss by number ninety Sam Bosco. And
I'll be honest, we haven't called his name too much
from the broadcasting booth, but I was elated that that
young man on Senior Day. Allait, then that's a huge
play right there. Took the wind out of their sales
when all of a sudden they're down by four points
(31:03):
and they want to get the lead back.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Well, Sam's one of one of those guys you just
love the death he was.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
He did a lot of Scout team the year before
we called demo dogs and gave our o line fits
every week. He was demo dog in the year, so
he was awarded something at our banquet, and he is
one of the strongest guys on the team. He's high
effort all the time. He has a positive attitude all
the time, and it was awesome to see him turn
it up and and and be the player that we
(31:32):
know he can be and use that speed and quickness
and and that aggression that he has to make a
big play. That was that was fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
So they Eds has basically three plays for minus nine yards.
So again that first play just sets that gets them
behind the chains and and they just they couldn't get
out of it. So they got to punt the ball
back to us, and uh we end up we ended
up going three and out.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
And yeah, we got a little we got a little
too aggressive on that play. That was some you know,
clock management on me, but we got a little too aggressive,
I think on that drive. We we kind of got
a little away from ourselves and that led to the three.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Now so Ed's then EDGs gets the ball back and
you know there was the one play where Christian Harris
had to face mask. Yeah yeah, so uh so.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
You'r D line like it's a D line. It's so hard.
You're getting blocked like crazy. You're just trying to grab
something you don't know what it is.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
And then you chased him down and and unfortunately those
things happen. So uh anyway, they uh in comes part
two with Lincoln Murphy with with another interception, give.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Griff Daily a lot of credit on that. Griff is
the one who is in main coverage. Tip the pass
made the Havoc play Lincoln right place, right time, returns
it out huge right the goal line. Fourteen point swing, yes,
fourteen point swing, play the game.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
So then we get the ball and our own eighteen
and then we go on a U ten play eighty
two yard drive taking off four minutes and thirty eight seconds.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Gave coach a lot of credit on that that drive.
He had a lot of big runs, yes, and then
Matt also had two huge throws I think won the Roman,
won the Javan that really moved the sticks. And then awesome.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
I mean, you know, Cooper McCutcheon, he only had three
catches on the day, but they were all touchdowns. What
a day for that. There you go, so all of
a sudden, now things have opened up a little bit,
uh thirty five twenty four. But you know, we knew
it wasn't gonna be it wasn't gonna be over. I
don't think, no, no, that that team is way too good,
three time defending state champions. So so, but they do
(33:46):
go four plays and for five yards, and uh, you know,
they just they had to turn they turned the ball
over and thinking, man, we're in good shape here, and uh,
you know, we take the ball down and uh, four
plays we give it back to him. They had basically
two minutes left and they were able to go down
and score, you know, in a great way. You know,
(34:08):
we defended the two point conversion and they didn't get it,
which made it a five.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Point grift daily again on the deflection, right.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
So uh and then obviously, uh, you know we there's
land and Adams showing up again getting that recovering that
on side kick, nice and smooth, no drama set.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
That kid is a stud. He was out for the
last couple of weeks. We just put him back on
the hands team on Friday the day before. And our
rule is if you can end the game, end the game,
we trust you. And the ended the game that he
did that he did.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
I was also gonna mention, I think we had the Yeah,
we had the fourteen play drive. We didn't have any
double digit yardage gain in that whole drive.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
And we just grinded out very characteristic. But that's good.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
No, it was great, right, But I mean they weren't
giving us much, but you know what, we kept moving
the sticks and able to get that. I just I
just wanted to note that. So, man, what a tough
team they are. I mean, obviously they're they're well coached,
they know what's going on. Uh, and they got good players,
and it just seemed like we had good control of
the game. But we also responded to when we needed to.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
The cool thing is there's a lot of mutual respect
between our football programs, between the coaches, between the players,
I think, just the programs in general, a lot of history.
It's really it's really cool. So you knew it was
gonna be that kind of game when you look back
at the history of the last four games. I mean
you think over time, goal line stand, come back that
(35:37):
fell short, and then just a slug fast back and forth. Right,
So that's what happened.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
I know, we talked about twelve out of thirteen and
I made the comment after you after the game. We said, well,
now it's now it's two and two, and you said, no,
it's one to zero. Yeah, here we roll, So all right, Well.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
That there's a good chance we're gonna face them again.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
So yeah, yeah, it's uh.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
We'll cross that bridge when we get there. But that's
a really good football team.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Hopefully we have to worry about that in week sixteen.
Let's you know, but you got to get there. You
can't get you can't get there if you'll take care
of business.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
So we're always in our mind, we're always like, hey,
we can see this team again anywhere, Like it doesn't
matter if it's Princeton Outer or Saint X, Like, hey,
don't don't start celebrating too much because you might see
this team again later on.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Well and coach, honestly, we were very even with this
team as that's right, I mean right down the line.
I mean I thought that was you know, third down efficiency.
We were fifty eight percent they were fifty six, with
the only differences both one of two and fourth.
Speaker 1 (36:32):
The only difference is we're plus one in turnovers and
red zone defense. Yep, absolutely, deffinitely, just that's what wins games.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Even even time of possession was twenty four thirteen to
twenty three forty seven. I mean, you can't get that
much closer. I mean that was, uh, you know again,
hopefully we get in that position, we have to game
plan for them again, so let's go for it. So
all right, that puts a rap on senior Day in
Saint Ed's. We'll come back, we'll talk about our upcoming opponent.
(36:59):
As you're listening to the Bert bathy Andy Show featuring
the head coach of the Molar Football Crusaders, Bert Bathyani,
sponsored by Comyan Shepherd Realtors and heard here on w
MOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network. Thank you for listening
to the Bert pathy Andy Show, brought to you and
sponsored by Comyan Shepherd Reeltors.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Go Big Mo.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
You're tuned in to w MOOE and the Molar Broadcasting
Network and this is the Bert bathy Andy Show, which
features the head coach of the Molar Crusaders, Bert Bathyany.
I'm Jeff Schneedle and the show is sponsored by the
company I work for, Comy and Shepherd Reeltors as coach.
We are now getting here into week ten and we
get to go play an opponent that I'll say, all
(37:58):
the way through the halfway more of the year, we
didn't even know they had a football team up there,
So now we do and we get we get to
tune in, so we get to go up to Muskegan
and play a very storied program where they i mean
they got a almost about a seventy year head start
on US football wise, is they had their first game
(38:19):
in eighteen ninety five.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah, how about that?
Speaker 2 (38:21):
So and they have over nine hundred wins. So you
know the other thing is it's even their roster doesn't
even I don't even know who their quarterback is unless
I go and watch them tape here soon. But so
almost like we just I mean, I see the scores.
It seems like they put some big points on the board,
sixty two, forty seven and forty seven, and their three wins,
(38:43):
they've lost some close games. So what can you tell
us about Muskegan the Big Reds.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Well, I think they've they've won, if I remember correctly,
nineteen state championships all right in their school history. They're
the twenty twenty three defending state champion, so they won
it last year. They are a football program that's built
on a very rich tradition. They're gonna be well coached.
They give great effort on the football field. Their rosters
a little smaller than ours. Like, they're gonna go both ways.
(39:09):
You're gonna see their players on offense, on defense, and
special teams, right and and that's how they go right like,
but they give a ton of effort, which is unbelievable
for it considering how many snaps they take. They got
a quarterback that runs their offense really really well. He's
extremely athletic as an efficient arm They got an offensive
line and that's committed the Rutgers. They got a defensive
(39:30):
line who has offers from every Big Ten school and
he's only a sophomore. They got really good players that
play really hard, and they got a lot of team
speed on the perimeter. So we're gonna have our hands full,
so we better come correct and travel well. And but
the same message always goes to our players is if
we come up and we just take care of our
(39:52):
game and play the game that we know how to play,
scoreboard takes care of itself.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
We play in Hackley Stadium, which is named after a
man named Charles Hackley who was a lumber baron up
in the area and the school burnt down in the
late eighteen hundreds and he provided the funds to rebuild.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
How about that. It's a beautiful facility.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Yeah, I can't wait, I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
I believe it's a football only facility. And they got
this cool brick that goes around the thing and they
pack it. It's it's a really cool football environment. So
we're excited, coach.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
They've also put uh, they put a nice handful of
players in the NFL, including uh and I do remember
the name Errol Morrile, who was a known as a
backup quarterback. But man, he had a big hand in
a couple of Super Bowls, including the undefeated Dolphins where
he filled in for Bob Greasy, but Greasey took the
job back and in the Super Bowl. But that's where
(40:45):
he's from, that's where he went to school. So they
got a lot of cool history. And it's going to
be fun to get up there and be right there
in Lake Michigan. So so we take our bathing suits,
could go huh pregame, swim.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
A little game, yeah, huh yeah. Yeah. If you look
at the hand like of Michigan's on the left side out.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
Yep, about halfway up.
Speaker 1 (41:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
So so it's gonna be uh, it'll be uh something new,
something different. So hey, kids, kids can't say they haven't
done a little traveling here.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
No they can't. And this is a stadium ten of ten.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Well, the only thing I can say is a nice
six hour trip to Muskegon, Michigan, and hopefully we have
to just get a little three hour jaunt later in
the year back to northeast Ohio. So yeah, yeah, leave
it at that.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
What better time to be playing high school football. You
get to go on along road trip with all your
friends that you've played football with since great school. You
had a wonderful four year experience with these guys, and
then now we get to take a cool bus trip
up to a team that won the state championship last
year and stop a Notre Dame. So our guys are
excited for it.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Cool and it looks like there may be a little
rain early in the day, but it looks like it
should clear out late in the day and it's gonna
be great football weather.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Yeah yeah, it could have been worse.
Speaker 2 (41:55):
So that is gonna put a rap here on the
Week ten cast. As far as with the bird BATHYNI
show safe travels, and all of a sudden, the new
season will start next year, next week.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
I should see, yeah week yeah, season.
Speaker 2 (42:09):
Until we get too far ahead of ourselves.
Speaker 1 (42:10):
Yeah, we always start. It's always like the preseason, like
the preseason, right, and this the GCL season, and then
it's playoffs. That's how I always look at it. Those games.
Beforehand we're kind of figuring out like who your team is,
and then you got the GCL, it's like, hey, this
is who we are, and then you get in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Coach again, safe travels, Let's let's get them ready to go.
Let's go take care of business. Let's have a great
stop at Notre Dame and then then a good safe
ride home.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
And get it done. God bless man. Thanks, there you go.
Speaker 2 (42:40):
That is the head coach of the Molar Football Crusaders,
Bert Bathy Annie. As you've been listening to the Bird
Bathyanni Show sponsored by Comby and Shepherd Realtors, and it's
heard here on w MOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network.
If you cannot make it too Muskegan, Michigan, be sure
to tune in to w MOOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network.
Self and Rob folks bring it.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
All to you.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
And that is Friday night. Can time change? It was
originally a Saturday game. It is Friday night at seven pm.
Thanks for listening our Jeff Sneedle class of nineteen eighty four.
As always here on WMRI and the Molar broadcasting network
