Speaker 1 (00:00):
A success in life company? What is it you want?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Give your best effort, show me what you got.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
If you want to be a success, you've gotta have.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
It's the Burt Fathyany Coaching Shoe presented by Komy and
Shepherd Realtors and First Community Mortgage. A competitive combo championship
results and here's your host, Jeff Siedle and order head
football coach Burt.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Pathyani, W MOE and the Moler Broadcasting Network present the
Burt Bathyani Show, which features the head coach of the
Moler Fighting Crusaders, Bert Bathyani. The show is sponsored by
Comy and Shepherd Reltors. I'm Jeff Schneidel with the class
of nineteen eighty four and with Komy and Shepherd Realtors,
and it's always great to check in, especially getting deeper
(00:47):
in the playoffs with the head coach of the Crusaders,
Bert Bathyany. Coach.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
How we doing today morning, Sneed's going to be here
just like we said last week, as long as we
keep talking to.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yep, let's keep meeting on Thursdays. Get it going today,
little un with a little bit of snow falling. Uh
nice calm and TRNK will outside, but hopefully things will
be fired up and on fire tomorrow night.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
I mean, what a blessing when you get the practice
in the snow like that is such a blessing that
not a lot of kids get to do that. I mean,
up north kids do, but in our state, in our city,
when you're practicing and it's snowing out, that means it's
later on the playoffs. So what a blessing to be
able to be able to have that opportunity.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Seventies to begin the week throwing a little snow, but
the supposed to be supposed to be dry and you know,
lower forties, but a field like temperature of like thirty
two at kickoff, but mid West weather, right, you know,
I just get warmed up and get reved up and
let it go. So uh so, coach, uh of course,
we took care of the the vikings last week. We'll
talk about that in segment one. But Coach, the GCL
(01:54):
all stars came out, and this is always hard because
we got so many really good players and you got
a you know, not every kid can get recognized or
get a spot. And you know, I mean we win
the GCL, we can't take every spot so people get
moved around and are left out, and that's that's always hard,
(02:14):
because man, some are very deserving.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yeah, being on this side of it as a as
a coach, everywhere I've been, it's always been something that
you celebrate. But then at the same time, there's like, man,
like I like this guy should have been on it,
that guy should have been on it, And there's a
little frustration there as well. And every coach is biased
towards their players, and I'm biased as anyone towards ours,
Like I want to try to get as many as
we can on there as possible, and I think the
(02:37):
last two years like we've had the most on there,
which I'm really excited about, and hopefully we can continue
to do that. But there's still a lot of names
not on that list that are so crucial to our
success and we couldn't do what we're doing now without them.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
So I just want to make sure that like our
guys know that well.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Like an example, second team defense, Will Atkins, Jacob Cravens,
and Mario Mintle, what years have they Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
They've been ballplayers.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Jacob had a like what a game he had against
the CODA East And then what a game he had
against Princeton, and he's just a big play machine. And
will Atkins has been awesome behind the line of scrimmage,
creating a lot of TFLs and Marino Middleton, I mean,
you just don't get to appreciate what he does because
he's in he'sn't covered so much, you know what I mean.
But we can't do what we do without him.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
What a blessing he's been. I mean, as far as
you know, I mean, I don't see he weren't counting on him,
but man, he just earned his way in and he's
a playmaker.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
And that's the great thing about about football, especially because
there are so many positions, so there's so many opportunities
for guys that you might not have expected for them
to contribute the way that they do. And then when
they get the opportunity, they rise to that level and
they just start playing really, really good ball and you
get to get so.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Excited for him.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
So we mentioned Will Atkins, Jacob Cravens, Mario Marino Middleton,
second team defense, as far as first team defense, Connor Cuzzo,
Griff Daily, Thomas Kirky, Christian Harris, Jonah Hayes, Ricky Thomas
of course, Christian Harris I think was the defensive lineman,
the defensive line of the year.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
I think he was usually come on, I think he
might have been first or second in TFLs, I think
in the g CL, but he's been, you know, a
train wrecker. You know, Thomas Kirky had an awesome game
against Princeton and Jonah Hayes had an unbelievable game against Princeton.
So our d line we've been really really excited. We
knew coming into this year we thought a strength of
(04:30):
this team was the defensive line.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Certainly showed they didn't. They didn't let us down at all.
Of course, offensively, Matt Ponatowski is the player of the year.
Obviously at quarterback, you Chuck Powell on the line, Cooper
Cooper McCutcheon. Of course, Sam Hamilton is second team man.
Those guys just what how blessed are we with great
tight end.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
And those guys are just interchangeable, Like honestly, God, we
have a rotation and we just stick to the rotation
and they just go in and out.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
We're really blessed to have two really good tight ends.
And gives his like to.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
The end of the game and you need to, you know,
either grind it out or get play. I mean, they're
gonna be a little bit more fresh than as opposed
if they've had to play boath. Well, some teams like Muskigham,
where guys are playing both ways and they're really good players,
there's just only so much energy.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
I think one of the biggest changes happened to definitely
Ohio high school football in the last couple of years
after COVID they added that extra playoff game, So you
don't get the bye week anymore, right, So now you
just play all those games straight. So if you're fortunate
enough to go to the state championship, that's eighteen games
in a row if you count both scrimmages, and those
should count because that's a different type of environment where
(05:37):
you're still hitting someone else. And that's not even counting
the camp, that's not even counting all the training throughout
the summer. So I think depth is critical for every
single team, and when you can rotate guys and develop them,
and that's part of your DNA. You gotta let players
go out there during the season and have the opportunity
to make mistakes and grow and develop and improve throughout
(06:00):
the regular season because honestly, God like all that matters when.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
You get to the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
So having depth at the right spots I think are
is critical.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
And how about three receivers Roman Mason, Matt Fogler and Jovon.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
And Love all the first team, yeah, and then Carson's
and second team.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
So and Landon Adams has made a lot of plays,
I mean.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
But the thing with land and is land and was hurt, right,
so you know against like he had his great games
I think, like on the book ends of the g CL,
you know what I mean. So he had some really
big plays against Lasal, but then he was out the
rest of the game. Didn't play against Elder. So same
thing with Dante ware right, Like Dante didn't play in
any GCL games. So like when you vote on these,
(06:43):
a lot of it depends on so you played against,
right and who you played beforehand, So all those games
afterwards don't matter as much because they don't they don't.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Watch them well. And the thing I always think of
with Landon is, you know when LaSalle, before we kind
of got going, he had like I think that the
big and then shoulder and then caught the next ball
and then came out after he made another play. So
there he missed a lot of lasaugame, but he he
kind of sparked us. He really sparked us in that Gida.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
He's that kind of player.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
He had a big touchdown against Mallet Creek and then
I mean he was one of the players in the
game against Saint Ett's. I mean, he had a big
touchdown catch, he had the on side kick. He's just
a playmaker all over the place. And then I think
he had he had two touchdowns against Lakota East, and
I mean, we just we have a lot of guys
that make plays. And what I love about our team
(07:36):
is we've bought into the team aspect where we know
if we all if the team succeeds, then we all
succeed and maybe one's not outshining the other. Like even
if you look at Fogeler and javonstats, they're pretty equal, right,
They're pretty equal, And I bet like uh Sam and
Cooper stats are pretty equal, and our running back stats
are all pretty equal. But they all share the load,
and they're all really good teammates and support each other
(07:57):
and they get excited just as much as when they
make a play, they do in their teammate makes a play.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
We you know, what we see from the booth is
a lot of times the wide receiver corps is really good.
But what doesn't show up in the stats is what
they're doing downfield.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
And blocking yep.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
I mean it's like it's like unbelievable, Like you know,
someone gets spring for twelve yards, well you know, I
mean Joe lont Love does a lot of great block yep.
With that, I mean, he's making tackles on special teams.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
He's like he's just a playmaker. I mean.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
But the same thing with Roman Mason. I mean, Roman
is on And that's the thing is Roman doesn't get
enough credit as he deserves because he's first team offense
wide receiver. He has five interceptions in three games in
the playoffs at dB right, and then he's the holder
on field goal. He's on kickoff, he's on punt, he's
on pump block, he's on kickoff return. He's our Swiss.
(08:46):
He does everything for us. So he doesn't get enough
credit either. But that's that's our whole team. I think
there's a lot of guys across the board that don't
get enough credit.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
For the job that they're doing.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Absolutely and of course, uh we mentioned Cooper McCutcheon Jack
mall bar as for first team kicker.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
First year playing football too. Titus Land was first team
as well. And then you got Jeremiah Bola I think
of Matteo or second team. And then like, yeah, shout
out Marty Atkins and Oli Hammer who the other two
senior offensive line that we have, which we can't do
what we do without him. I mean Marty against the
Coda East, we were moving him all over the place
as a strategy. And then Oli Hammer plays garden center
(09:24):
and he makes all our calls up at center, so
he's the orchestrator that offensive line to get a hat
on a hat and get everything rolling. So that just
a lot of guys who are unsung heroes on this
football team.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
It's almost like for they should almost do Offensive Line
of the Year, I.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Mean earlier college it really is.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
I mean, you know, you can have one great offensive lineman.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
And be terrible.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Yeah yeah, I mean you gotta have all five working
or five or six or seven or eight how many
got rolling? That's that's the one unit.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
That really has Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Put me down for one good job.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
They do that in college football.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
Now, we had the offensive line of the year. I'm
gonna take that stamp the bottom my notes. So obviously
Sam Hamilton Carson we mentioned, you know, and just just
fill it up. And again they're just weren't enough spots
for all the great guys that we had going on.
So so congrats to congrats on the GCL All Stars.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
And I'm sure that we didn't even say anything about
Tyler Joscelyn's first team GCL at running back. How about
that started the year off seventh string at running back
after the move because he was a quarterback early in
the summer. And then and Gray Low coach was second team,
and then Cooper McCutcheon tight end of the year. We said,
Christian Harris, Matt Ponatowski is back of the year, which
is kind of funny to think about it. He was
(10:41):
the back of the year. That's the same award that
Jordan won last year. And then Javan was receiver of
the year. All right, but and then Matt fogu to
this week, he just set the record the single season
record for touchdown receptions in a season with fifteen. I
think The previous number is thirteen by Mini Madaris, and
I think Javon tied that right.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
So just really cool, really cool.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
Not a lot of things to celebrate, but those are
all individual awards, and every single guy in that team
wants the team award, and they would all say that.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Well, the ultimate team award is what we're gonna look for.
So let's take a break and then we're gonna come back.
We're gonna recap the twenty eight to ten win over
the Princeton Vikings. As you're listening to the Bird Bathy
Any Show featuring the head coach of the Crusaders, Bird
Bathy Andy, heard here on w MOE and the Moler
Broadcasting Network and as usual, sponsored by Comyan Shepherd Realtors,

MOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network, and more specifically, you're
listening to the Bert bathy Andy Show, which features the
head coach of the GCL champion Moler Fighting Crusaders, Bert Bathyanni,
(12:19):
I'm Jeff Schneedle class of nineteen eighty four and with
Komy and Shepherd Realtors and Comye and Shepherd sponsors the show,
The Bert Bathyni Show. So, Coach, we had another great
evening weather wise against as we took it to the
Vikings last week. You know, there was a full moon,
but there was so much cloud cover it never it
(12:40):
never was seen. So you know, hey, I'm a big
big moon guy. Man, that thing, I'm like, geez, that
thing didn't even get a chance to show up. But
the Crusaders showed up and coach kind of familiar. Like
the first game we got down seven to nothing against
the Vikings, but then then we turned things around and
responded right away.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Yeah, we went early, fourth down, we went for it,
and I know a lot of people don't like how
aggressive we are, but that's just how much confidence we
have in our team. But they score and the vibe
on the sideline was one hundred percent. Just no flinch mentality,
and I think I heard Javon say, hey, they did
that last time, Let's go and then Matt stone cold
just said right, let's go score. And then they went
down and scored. And ironically enough, it was Matt thrown
(13:20):
to the Javon in the back of the end zone.
But a lot of that happened from big plays of
Dante had a big third and six run that was
a check the line of scrimmage by Matt really good,
and then a big play by Roman on the sideline,
and then another big play by Tyler Jocelyn.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
They get us down in the red area and then
Matt and Javon did their thing.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
What a game by Tyler Johnson, a man study. Fifty
plus yard rushing and that's our.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
First one hundred yard rusher of the season. First one
he had one hundred against St. Max and then off
TFLs he had ninety nine. He had ninety seven I
think against against Elder and then I think Gray Low
had in the nineties against Saint Ed's. But that was
our first hundre yard rusher. And you know, Tyler had
two hundred old purpose yards. He had three big catches,
(14:07):
one hundred and fifty yards in the ground, which we
thought was against a really good defense.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
I don't think he really did anything against Princeton the
first game, so he did.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
He didn't have a carry, right, he didn't have a carry,
he did't have a stat he didn't play.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
So we got I mean, we got three very capable guys.
Now I know Tyler had lost to fumbles, but uh,
you know that was just really the exception. He's really
been taking care of the ball as the team has.
I mean, we've been really fortunate and you know some
I mean sometimes that happens with football.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Yeah, that, but uh, the Prison game was frustrating from
a standpoint of usually we're way better in the red area,
and I think we had two instances were in there
and didn't score, and then we had another one where
Tyler you know, got in there, and then we turned
it over. But we we put the ball on the
ground three times, which is very uncharacteristic of us over
(14:56):
the last you know, just the whole season. But what
was characteristic of us is our defense taking the ball
away and us being aggressive on special teams as well.
So that equaled it out from that standpoint. As mad
as I was about or not mad, but disappointed in
our in our red area offense, and then the takeaways,
our defense and special teams had our back where Princeton
(15:19):
comes out at a halftime, marches down the field in
the red area and we get a stop, they kick
a field goal, so it's fourteen ten ins aat of
fourteen fourteen, and then we go score it's twenty one ten.
Totally change the complexion of the game. And then on
special teams Land and mopping with the huge strip fumble recovery,
and then later on we were we're just trying to
squib it at him and it just hits the kid
(15:40):
in the head and you know, Sherman jumps on.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Yeah, I mean it was really unique.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
I mean yeah, I mean, you hit him in the
face master, which actually helped push it far.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
But you could tell he wasn't ready for it.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
And they don't practice that because he was running back
and the ball hit him right, and you know, you know,
we practice that every single week, you know, two three
times a week, so our guys are ready for those
type of kicks at all times, so you can just
tell he wasn't ready for But really proud of our defense.
They had four takeaways or two if you count special
(16:10):
force as well. But Roman Mason with two big picks
and he's been a ball hawk. But I thought our
defensive line did a really good job stifling their running game,
which they got a really dynamic back who had two
hundred yards last week, and that was the big talking.
I mean really, the one thing I thought they had
on us is just throwing to their Their tight end
is really good.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
But once we.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Put you know, you move Roman over on them, and
you know, I thought our guys bottom them up pretty well.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yeah, we'll deal with them next year because we'll get
those guys again. Yeah, but this year in this game,
they had one hundred and eighty eight total offense. It's awesome,
which is incredible. Now, their third down efficiency was one
of nine. Now on the flip side, they were three
or three, so kind of I mean that kind of
levels out a little bit if you say, you know,
(16:58):
four for twelve.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
So so we're really excited about and our playing the win.
That's what we want to do, right, Like we want
to be under thirty percent on third down, but under
thirty percent overalling the money downs and our defense good.
But we were really good on third down on offense.
I think we were like sixty percent, yes, I think,
and even I think we're sixty percent on third down
and fourth down, so I think we're three to five
(17:21):
on fourth down and on both those drives and we
went fourth on fourth down. We scored touchdowns well.
Speaker 3 (17:26):
And the other thing is four hundred and eighty one
yards total offense. But the other key fact is we
had time of possession almost two to one thirty one.
I thought it was our thirty eighth Yeah, no, it
was thirty one minutes and forty six seconds to Princeton's
sixteen fourteen seconds, so basically two to one there. So
(17:49):
I mean that it just seemed like we had just
good control of the game. I mean twenty eight to ten.
I mean, it wasn't like a blowout, but we just
had good control of it. So you know, that was
a good way to take care of business and get
to the next week. So that takes us to a
nice on, a nice little break. So we wrap up Princeton.
(18:09):
We will see them again next year. First game, yep,
first game, all right, so we'll worry about them later.
So you are listening to the Bert Bathy Andy Show
featuring the head coach of the Molar Crusaders, Bert Bathyani
heard here on w MOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network
and it is sponsored by Comy and Shepherd Realtors. And
we'll be right back. Thank you for listening to the
(18:30):
Bert pathy Andy Show, brought to you and sponsored by
Comy and Shepherd Reeltors. Go Big mo. You're listening to
w MOOE and the Molar Broadcasting Network and more specifically,
(18:53):
you're listening to the Bert bathy Andy Show, which features
the head coach of the Molar Fighting Crusaders by bathy Annie.
The show is sponsored by Comy and Shepherd Realtors. I'm
Jeff Schneedle with the Molar Class of nineteen eighty four
and also with Comye and Shepherd Realtors, two of the
finest ever. Anyway, Coach, we get to go to we
(19:15):
get to play another familiar team, the Saint Xavier Bombers.
And I will say, with our thoughts and prayers with
the fous family and thinking of Coach Faust, there aren't
two bigger rivalry games, and even more so Saint x
with the you know, the Molar Nation and all the
alumni and you know, but certainly, you know, taking care
(19:40):
of the Bombers was near and dear to coach Fousehart
and as all of us. So we run a nice
little run five in a row. But man, this is
a talented team and they are they're peaking at the
right time.
Speaker 4 (19:51):
Yeah, and they're well coached and they know how to fight.
And I think game one we played is a great
example of that. They ref said this hundred times, but
they responded exactly how I would expect us to respond.
And I don't I haven't looked back, but that might
have been the highest scoring game.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
It was and in our between the two right like
at it, I.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Was fifty six forty two and was with Greg Frye
got your Campouse. I mean, people had neck issues the
next day because the ball. It was like watching a
tennis matchup that was going.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Up in the last twenty years. That was the highest
scoring game between the two. But if you look at
it all these games, they're never there's not a lot
of lipside at victories, and it's usually pretty close between
these two. And I tell you what, one thing you
notice about the Bombers is when you you look at
their schedule, they playing a lot of close games and
they know how to keep it close. And that's the
sign of a well coached team. And you know they're
(20:47):
gonna fight and they're gonna you know, you have to
beat them. You know they're they're gonna be sound. It's
not like you're gonna trick them or anything like that.
But they got a lot of They have a really
strong defense. Obviously, they're really aggressive there and they've been
like that, you know, as long as respect has been there.
And then on offense, they got to the probably the
best o line I think we've gone against all year.
They're really really good, and they got after us last time,
(21:08):
right Like you look at the score, I guarantee on
their end, they're saying, hey, this is uncharacteristic, confused to
give that that many points, And we're saying the same thing.
That's un characteristic of us to give up that many points.
But that's what you get in these kind of games.
Anything can really happen. So I'd expect it to be
a dog fight, and I expect them to swing and
lands and punches. We're gonna swing and lands and punches,
(21:29):
and whoever's the last one stands usually gonna end up
with the dub and hopefully we're fortunate to be on
the end of that.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
And we've had several games and in the same next
game earlier this year was was one of those where
we just uh kind of pulled it ourselves so far
ahead and we're thinking we're just gonna keep rolling in.
I mean, then adjustments get made and the other team
can kind of fight back in a little bit, and uh,
you know, I mean to the Bombers credit, I mean,
they they didn't throw in the towel, and you know,
(21:54):
none of our GCL teams are gonna do that, but uh,
you know, the Bombers, uh, you know, made it close
and made it a game, and I'm sure they would
like nothing else and to come and get us.
Speaker 4 (22:05):
Yeah, without question. I mean that you kind of knew
this was gonna happen. I mean, even at the beginning
of the year we played Princeton, in our minds we're
going to play them again in the playoffs, And even
after we played say next again, in my mind like, hey,
we're probably going to see them again in the playoff
because they're both really good teams and even if we're
on other sides of the bracket, you're expecting to play
at the pinnacle of it. So, you know, I think
(22:28):
they have a warrior at quarterback, and I think herbstreet
Is is just a fighter, and I think he makes
a ton of plays for offense and he makes them go.
And I think Daniel Volmer is an incredible athlete as well.
And already talked about the offensive line, but uh, they
got a really strong running game and I think their
running back's really good. And then you know, what can
you say about them on defense?
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Was good? On defense?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Their defensive line is aggressive and moves, and you know,
their linebackers are really aggressive and they're tall and long,
and then they're DB's, you know they I think they
do a great job communicating in the back end and
they just make a ton of play. So I have
just a ton of respect for their for their team,
and I think they do a really good job. So
you just like a GCL matchup, man, right, You're gonna
(23:11):
go against good coaches and good players, and you gotta bring.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
It the The the best way to characterize that is
when the whole city has Xavier versus you see, and
you throw the records out and tee it up and
and see how it goes, so the Crusaders again looking uh,
you know, I don't think it really matters as far
as like six in a row because the only thing
that matters is the one game.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
And you throw out the window that matters.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Again. The weather looks like it's gonna it's gonna be
a little colder, but you know what, it's football, tea
it up and let's go.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Let's go. So all right, coach, well, uh, let's uh,
let's be able to sit down next week. Let's go
take care of the bombers. Let's let's do our thing,
and let's get it ready to roll.

Yep, Lord willing Man, see you next week.
