(00:41):
especially now that we're in season, to catch up with
our favorite head coach, Bert Bathyany coach, how we doing today?

Speaker 1 (00:47):
We're doing good man, Just getting ready to rolling. We
got a beautiful day tomorrow. We had college football starting
last night. So everything is rocking and rolling and right
in the world again.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
All that ninety degree stuff out of here. This is
for ball weather. I knew you all people. Yeah, we'll
be talking about the weather. Yeah this week because it's been.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Seventy five and sunny and no rain and you're a
big weather.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Guy, and you know what days like we're going to
have you have to just thank the Lord because and
enjoy them. And you know we're going to go down
to Ironton and you know that's and you talk about
like a football mecca. Yeah, I mean that is, that's
like utopia. It's like Paul Brown Stadium in mass I mean,
there's just that. It's like, man, this is what it's about.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
It's really cool. Town shuts down for football and they
treat us really really well.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
You think they like their football down there.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah, they love football, and they love Molar too.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
I mean they've been great to us to be a.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
High school in the same state, right, and you travel
to that city for you know, a neutral syche game,
and and the way they treat you when you come
in it's like a home away from home owners.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah, like treat us like football royalty. And uh well
we got it. Host them back here sometime or some
way or do something with it. So so, uh, coach,
you know, it's always good. We'll talk about the Princeton
h win in the first segment, but you know, it's
it's always good to get kind of that first one,
you know, out of the way and kind of gets
under it's a little bit of sigh relief, not not

(02:15):
so much for you maybe in the coaches, but just
the kids. It's like, hey, you know, hey, we got
it done. Get the jitters out, just kind of let's
let's get moving on.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah. I think everyone likes to just get back in
a rhythm of things in summer. In summer, we're in
a rhythm, and then that rhythm changes once we get
to August, because now you go from mornings to afternoons.
It just changes that internal clock and then you start
adding in all the other stressors of life like school,
waking up early, getting homework done, all those things, and

(02:46):
you know, it just changes. So it's good to get
back into rhythm right now. So we're in the week
two of school, so things are rolling in coaches.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
It's it's life in general. You know, you got changes,
you got to adapt. Ye, no different than when our
tee time was set up and there was gonna be
a there's going to be a fire Joe ride. So
we hustled early, we got we got here, so hopefully
we'll get it out of the way and done. Is
the Crusaders took down the Princeton Vikings, and we're gonna
take a break and then we're gonna come back and

(03:16):
talk about that game. As you're listening to the Bert
Bathyani Show, which features the head coach of Molar Football.

(05:01):
We had a beautiful Saturday last week, maybe maybe a
smidge warm, but a beautiful day out at West Claremont
and uh, you know, no rain, puffy clouds, comfortable and
kicked off the season against the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Yeah, I mean it's it was a high quality opponent
and you know, you go into game one and you
never know what to expect, so you try to do
your best job scouting them off scrimmage film and all that.
But no matter what, you're still you know, making guesses
about what actually might happen. So it's good to get
out there and kind of get you know, get that
first game under your belt and get rolling and you know,

(05:39):
talk about a great sign of resiliency and grit you know,
that first quarter was not really good in any way,
shape or form on either side of the ball. And
then you know, a couple couple of plays led to
some momentum changes and then we're able to maintain that
and keep that thing going throughout the rest of the game.
And it kind of stifled a little bit, but for
the most part, we're able to grab hold of that momentum,

(06:01):
take hold of it, and then let that lead us
to victory later on in the game.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Coach, it certainly felt like the beginning of the game
was was just that where both teams are trying to
figure each other out. Let's see how this goes kind
of back and forth. Princeton, you know, we won the toss.
That's a great sign. We're gonna we're gonna go ten
and zero on the coin flips this year. It'd be nice.
Well it always helps because yeah, and that that came

(06:27):
into play. But you know, Princeton got the ball. Of course,
you know, they they it seemed like their game plan
was to run Hambrick and they just kept trying to
pound him, and you know, they ended up punting. We
get the ball. You know, I think we had a
false start that was in there, and then we punt
the ball back to them and Princeton's next drive they

(06:47):
go down and you know, I mean they have a
great tight end and he caught a fourteen yard pass
and put them on the board first seven to nothing.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Well, they got really good field position off off the
punt return. And that's obviously a big focus that we
try to have weekend and week out is the field
the average field positions start. So obviously we gave them
the opportunity to be in our own territory and then
they were able to capitalize on that, and I think
I think all their touchdowns came on like pretty good
field position if I remember correctly, right, because it was

(07:17):
all due to you know, special team. So that was
something that we emphasized this week and put a little
bit more practice time into, is just being really sound
on our special forces to put our defense in a
good spot, put our offense in good a spot so
we can be successful on that ensuing drive. But that
that you know, we didn't put our defense in a
good spot right there, and then obviously, you know he's
a tremendous talent in the red zone. You got to

(07:39):
be thinking the ball is going to be going to him,
and we kind of made it look easy for him.
So I thought later on we did a better job
of that. But I think the biggest thing was just
giving up that punt return and letting him have that
that that good field position for to open the drug.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
You mentioned special forces that you know, just I mean
a little thing here or there can lead to you know,
an issue or a problem, but definitely things that can
get cleaned up and address.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
So yeah, yeah, I mean we have a lot of
you know, I don't I don't like using this word
young because that sounds like an excuse, but we have
a lot of players on there that are getting their
first varc starting. The good thing is there's a ton
of talent on the field, and you have another confidence
in those guys. But you're gonna have some of those
growing pains, and the good thing is we're able to
learn through that through a victory and not through a loss.

(08:27):
We were able to overcome those mistakes and still end
up with more points than our team and end up
in the W column. So I think that's like the
biggest thing is there's every everything out there that we
didn't like. I have confidence in our player's talent to
be able to GUIs in and get better and fix
that in the ensuing weeks.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Just things to address. So we're down seven to nothing,
we're not able to move the ball, we end up punting.
Princeton gets the ball, they punt, We get the ball
back again, we punt. Just seemed like we were having
a hard time getting a little rhythm going with that,
and then Princeton ran out and I didn't run out
the first quarter, but the first quarter comes to an

(09:05):
end and then they still had the ball and they
end up driving and they had a six yard touchdown
that put them up thirteen to nothing. But you know, coach,
you know one thing, it's the little things. They missed
the extra point. It doesn't seem like a big deal,
but you know what that kind of plays into, you know,
maybe the focus and how things progress, and maybe a

(09:26):
little bit of a momentum piece right there.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Yeah. I don't know if it changed our mindset right
then and there, but definitely going in at halftime up
fourteen thirteen instead of tied fourteen fourteen. That's a different mindset,
just going in when you think you were down by
two scores and then all of a sudden you're leading
going in the halftime. I think that definitely changes the
mindset for us and for them, right, Like their body
language is different going off the field too, and I

(09:50):
thought ours was different heading into the locker room. But
heading into the game, we were gonna lean on our conditioning,
we were going to lean on our time in the
weight room. We were gonna lean on being able to
outlast the opponent, whoever that is. That's that was our
game plan heading in the week one. Because you don't
know what they're gonna do on offense, you don't know
what they're gonna do on defense. You can predict all

(10:11):
you want and go off scrimmage film, but guys are
playing in different spots. There's a different alignments, different looks.
They have a new defensive coordinator, they have a new
offensive coordinator, right, So you don't really know what's going
to happen. You can guess and make assumptions, but you
go in with a broad general plan and then you
try to figure it out from there. That's what we
did on offense and on defense, and then once the

(10:33):
game kind of came to us and settled down, then
I thought we were able to get I think defensively,
we got in a rhythm offense. I thought we were
in and outer rhythm right, and you know, shut ourselves
in the foot too many times when I felt like
we were getting in rhythm. You know, a catastrophic you know, casualty,
not a casual team, but a penalty and you know,

(10:53):
a holding call here, a holding call there, a miss
assignment that leads to a TfL that puts you behind
the sticks and then causes to get off script for
that drive. So that was kind of like my thought is,
you know, we were going to lean on our conditioning
and that's going to carry us into the second half,
and I thought it did.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Coaches, So we're down thirteen to nothing and it's we
tried getting a drive going. You know, the one thing
this team did, or I should say did not do,
is it didn't seem like they were panicking, like like
you're down thirteen to nothing, it's like, oh my goodness, Like,
you know, it just seemed like we were we had
a little trouble getting it going, and you know, we

(11:33):
ended up punting on that next drive. But you know what,
what what a momentum change with grant memory And I
think it's very cool. We follows kind of Robinson's footsteps forwards.
A junior moved right and that same number number five,
so you know he's over there and you know he
gets he gets the interception, and it just seemed like

(11:53):
that really got the adrenaline going. And then all of
a sudden, here goes the offense with coming right out
to Sam Hamilton and you know, got roughing the passer
and then Gray Low punches it in and it just
seemed like it just seemed like, Okay, now we're yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
With Grant getting that interception, there was a jolt of
energy on the sideline. But before that, on a critical
third down, Marina Middleton had a TfL and he's been
doing that against us in practice all summer long. I
can't say enough about Marino Middleton and rave about him enough.
He might be the most consistent player we have on

(12:27):
our team when it comes to his effort and his
performance just unbelievable. Summer. He's doing an awesome job. So
he kind of let it like I think kick started
a little bit and then Grant got that pick, which
is huge, and like, how about the story of Tyler,
Jocelyn and Grant Emory. We have if you look back
to my first year here, all three of those guys

(12:48):
are quarterbacks and they're all captains right now between Jocelyn,
Emery and Matt. So a really cool moment. And he's
worked his tail off to get to that position. And
I thought Grant played an awesome first game. First started safety,
but that jolted us. And then we had a little
red zone play that we've been practicing for quite some time,
going straight to Sam and then Gray Little punched it

(13:09):
in and you know, he's a really physical runner. We
feel really confident with him runing the football down in
the goal line area. And then you know, that got
us going right like it's thirteen seven. Then we get
another stop and then you know, I can't remember the
actual sequence of everything, but then we got rolling a
little bit more. I think Matt hit a big one
to Carson Ko on a scramble, and then I think

(13:30):
Matt scrambled again for a first down, and then we
were to get down the field and then punch it
in again.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Yeah, Matt had had a twenty three yard past the
next possession as Princeton had the pun and they had
twenty three yard pass to Carson Ko another completion to
Gavin Rutherford.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
Actually that wasn't Gavin, that was that was Mattix Nelson, right,
So we have some double numbers, so they got the
wrong person on there. So Gavin is a sophomore defensive back.
He's doing a great job. But that was Mattix Nelson, okay, right,
And I think Maddox was eighty four last year, so
that was a mistake within the stats right there. But
that was Maddox And that was a really good play
right there because on that particular play that was a

(14:10):
called run and Maddox has the option to run a
route and Matt Ponatowski checked it, which he does a lot,
and he was able to deliver a ball right on time.
Really good catch, break attack. We'll get a first down,
which that you know, when you get a first down,
it's amazing how important just getting a first down is
to get the offense rolling because psychologically the offense is

(14:32):
moving forward, the defense is moving backwards yep, and you
have to reset and play another four downs, and the
analytics say, if you can get a first down, chance
of scoring increased significantly. So that allowed us to do.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
It, especially like when it's like second one. Everyone likes
to let's go for the long ball, let's do it. Well,
if you don't get it, then you got one down
to get out that yard. And if you don't get
then the whole thing mess. It's just good to get
that thing and keep the sticks moving. But so we
go down, we end up. Tey War goes in and
punches in the touchdown, tied at thirteen. And then Jack
Malibar again, even the psychological going in fourteen thirteen and

(15:09):
half is huge.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Yep, yeah, absolutely, and I want to love up on
Jack and Grant and Charlie or actually that was Augie
Henson or long snapper, so Aggie, you know, he is
an insane talent when it comes to long snapping. I
mean the speed at which he snaps that thing. Our
field goal operations have increased significantly. Grant Emery formal quarterback,

(15:30):
he's the holder. He does a great job with the
cadence and changing it up to keep them off balance
that they can't just rush.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Right, so Grant is money and that's he's like an
unsung hero within that operation. And then Jack Malibar was
probably missing a majority of his kicks during warm ups
and then goes out and just ice in his veins
and kills. He made all his extra points at two
field goals, So really proud of Jack too well.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
And extra points and field goals, I mean you really
only notice them when they don't work. Yeah, I mean
you kind of take it for grant, like, hey, it's
to be automatic. But there are all those nice little
things in regards to Grant. Now over defense, I just
wanted to throw this out. Does it help that he
was a quarterback where he like reads the defense and
now he goes over so he kind of knows the

(16:14):
quote quarterback oftimes.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
I hate going against him in practice because he knows
what we're doing good. I hate it, well, I absolutely
hate it. And it's and I tell him to do that, like, hey,
yeah you should, you should be playing at that high
of a level. But he is such an instinctive kid.
He's insanely smart. He's insanely savvy. And I tell you what,
Like in my coaching career, I love having former quarterbacks

(16:39):
at safety. It's just a game changer. Even when I was,
you know, in a previous life at Dennis and our
best player on defense was a former quarterback and he
was our schools all time leading tackler, and he was.
He was a maniac back there. But having a quarterback
of the defense back there makes it makes your job
a lot easier as a coordinator, rakes your job a
lot easier as the safety's coach. And give which McLean

(17:00):
a lot of credit for coaching those guys up. He's
done an awesome job with Grant, with Caleb Coe who
had an awesome game as well. So the safety's really
played out of their mind, I thought, game one.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
So coach again, we win the coin flip, and the
beauty of that is is deferring. So we get the lead,
we find a way to get the lead, and then
we get the ball back yep, and it just seemed like,
you know, kind of like game on from there, and
and we just knew we were going to take take control.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Well, Matt had a really good play on. It wasn't
a design read. He just ended up having to do it.
But we had a miss assignment on a block and
Matt reddit and then he took off running and I
forget how long it was, but it was a it
was an explosive play and got us a first town
in the into their territory and then we felt like
we were we were rolling at that point. Honestly, we
we kind of had our mojo going, and we had

(17:50):
a second and short, we had a penalty right like,
so that was the second second and short within the
game that we get a holding call that was unnecessary.
That puts you behind the sticks. And then now you
go into that phase right on third down and we're
trying to get half back and go forward. On fourth down,
we're trying to get it all back. Like you just
go through that mindset. So we ended up getting a

(18:12):
fourth down, we kick a field goal, and then that
makes it a touchdown game instead of a field goal game,
which changes your mindset as well. And I believe after
that was I think we got another interception pretty shortly
after that and then was able to punch it in.
But our defense did a great job giving us a
great field position.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Does it help with the cohesiveness and maybe the defense
to where I mean getting I know there was some tipball,
so it wasn't like pure like interception, but I mean
they were ball, howking, But to get all those interceptions,
that's just got to like bring more confidence, like, hey,
we're we're you know, we're on it and let's let's go.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Yeah. I mean, honestly, it's I think, if anything, it's
a bigger momentum change when you get takeaways because it's
so debilitating for the offense when you turn it over
psychologically for the person that turned it over. And then
it's such a momentum change for the defense when they
get one, and our defense just gets so excited they
get to go dunk the football right in the hoop
on the sideline and.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
So so it's pretty I had a little trouble getting
it getting so it was a little amusing. He got
it eventually, but it was fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
But we played so much zone in the second half.
Those tip balls are going to happen, and that's when
you're allowed, like you're able to get more interceptions. Honestly,
when you play more man covered, you don't have as
many chances for opportunities. And you know, we played both, right,
we do a lot, but that particular game, in that half,
we ended up playing a little bit more zone and
we were able to capitalize in some opportunities. Our our

(19:41):
defensive backs did a really good job being aggressive on
those pass routes. I thought our coaches, especially Zach Edwards
are our defensive pass game coordinator in charge of the DBS,
and then coach Sharper DC did a really good job
of outlining, like the the common past concepts that we're
gonna get BA upon the players alignments right, like they

(20:02):
had a good bead based upon the formation, based upon
the alignments, what was going to come to him and
our guys were able to respond that much faster than
then get a tip ball and then get a pick.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
So that second half we started off of a thirty
four yard field goal, Tyler Joscelyn punches one in six
yard run, not upon a Towski. With the ten yard run,
I think he picked up a real nice block from
Dante Ware and Alex.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Bowler and Alex Alex Bowler threw someone off the sideline
and he's turned on. I mean, Alex Bowler's done an
awesome job at offensive line force. But Dante is probably
one of our better blocking offensive players. I would say,
if you on the perimeter or in the back of it,
it doesn't matter. But Dante ain't scared to put his
face in there, and he's a tough dude. But he

(20:46):
had a great block Bowler had a great block. And
then Matt Scranton, not really known for scoring touchdowns with
his legs, but he has that athletic ability to be
able to make guys miss and then put it in
the paint.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
So I saw a little snippet where he said, well,
you know, I didn't have to run last year because
there were so many different options. Yeah, but he and
he basically but I can't.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Yeah, he can, he can.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
It was not he absolutely can.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
In that even in the recruiting process, coaches would ask
us why we don't run him, and I just say,
I don't want to take the risk. Yeah, we just
don't want to, so we just don't write. But he can.
If he needed to, he can do it. But we
just didn't need to show that.

Speaker 2 (21:25):
He found his way, picked picked read it, picked up
a couple of blocks. So you know, all of a sudden,
we're had thirty one thirteen. You know, certainly not out
of the woods by any means. Uh. You know, Myrie
uh catches another touchdown pass at the end of the
third quarter, but then Jack mallibar a thirty yard field goal.
Tyler Joscelyn punches in a second touchdown for him. What

(21:48):
was really cool was all three running backs had at
least a touchdown, and Matt so like the whole and
I say whole starting backfield if you will, because I
mean the way you in a change those guys. It's
not like this guy's a starter and these guys are back.
They're all which I think is great, keeps there by fresh.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
That We try to do that, you know, across our
whole roster, right like, if you're good enough to play,
you're gonna play. And we do that on offensive line,
we do that on defensive line, because in our mind,
we're playing, you know, a really long schedule and it's
not about just winning game one in game two. We
want to win you know, later on in October, November,
and December. So we got to have our players healthy

(22:30):
and rate a roll. You also got to develop a
lot of depth for the next year too. So as
a football program, you're always constantly trying to evaluate who's
good enough to help you win and then develop them
for the future. So across the board, you know, there's
a guy that goes in first, so I guess he's
quote unquote the starter, but there's a lot of guys
that go in and make a ton of plays. I mean,

(22:52):
like last year at receiver we had you know, like
our leading receiver was probably not even a starter. Right Like,
we have one tight end that goes in, the other
one goes in after him. We have a multitude of
running backs, a multitude of.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Have nine guys catch at least double digits. I mean,
it's all getting spoild.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
So you you do that when we do that on
d line as well, right, Like, we want our guys
to be able to play and rotate them, right, So
we say that all the time. If you're good enough
to play and you earn it, like you're gonna get
your opportunity now when you get out there, like take
it and roll with it. Right. So that's just our mindset,
just to help develop everyone and keep pushing this thing forward.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
All right, Coach, that puts a rap on Princeton week one,
but in a weird way, it might not be the
last time we see them. Just like last year. They're
a good football team and they're gonna take They're gonna
they're gonna do some damage as they roll through the GMC.
That's that's a good squad.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
I mean, all the high teams we play. I mean
with Princeton, I expect and play them again. Say next,
I expect to play them again. ODER expect to play
them again. It's ignacious, you expect to play them again, right,
That's that's the nature of it. What's cool about these
upcoming schedule is a non are out of state opponents
that are going to play, where it's almost like a

(24:03):
bowl game, you know what I mean, Like you just
get excited and you get to play top level competition
from outside the state and just see kind of where
you match up. And so it's a lot of fun.
Like our kids are looking forward to it. And the
these next three games, I believe in the last three
years there's a combined seven eight state championships amongst all

(24:25):
three of them. It's just a lot of fun. So
we're really excited to start this cool little stretch of playing,
you know, a state champion from three different states, and
then you get into the GCL, right and on the
bookends of those games, you got your big rivalry game,
which is a trophy game against Princeton, and then you
got say next after that, right, Like those are two

(24:47):
emotionally to charge games, and in between you're playing a
state champion from a different state. I would love to
hear another high school in the country that's playing a
state champion from three different states three weeks in a row.
So our guys get excited about they get a little
chip on their shoulder playing this tough schedule, and they
think that it's gonna prepare them throughout the year for

(25:08):
the later run.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
I'm not even gonna talk about that feeling White team
on fully bender. We got plenty of work to do before.
So we'll take a break here and then we're gonna
come back and talk about our upcoming opponent this week
that is affectionately known their nickname is the Caravan. Then
we'll talk about that briefly. Is you're listening to the
Burke Bat the Anti show heard here on w MOE

Speaker 3 (26:10):
It's time to cheer on your Molar Crusaders cross country teams.
They hit the trails for the twenty twenty five season
this Saturday at eleven am. It's the Mason Invitational in Mason, Ohio.
They have been training hard all summer. Now it's time
to show what it takes to be a man of Moler.
Cheer on the Crusaders and let's make some noise. Go

(26:31):
big Bo, Run fast, finish strong. On w MOE and
the Molten Broadcasting Network.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
You're tuned in to w MOOE and the Molar Broadcasting networking.
More specifically, you're listening to the Barton Bathyani Show, which
they cheers the head coach of Molar Football, Bartonbathyani. I'm
Jeff Schneidel, proud in nineteen eighty four molarra and also
work with Komy and Shepherd Realtors, who sponsors the Bert
Bathiani Show. Coach, we get to play a team, and

(27:10):
I'm going to use the word that Coach Sharp used
last week in the in the pregame. The faceless OPPONENTEP
because we really you know, maybe they're players, but they
haven't even played a real game yet. They had a
scrimmage last week, so there's nothing really kind of to
dig up on this year's team. And they were a
state champion last year, and you know, they got some

(27:31):
pretty good talent coming back with eight Division one guys.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Yeah, they're really really good. Nick to We say that
all the time to our team, with our faceless opponent.
We worry about ourselves, not so much the opponent, because
it's the expectation for the position, right, not the player. Right.
So whoever's in the game, it's the expectation. Whoever's at
that position, it's their job to execute their assignment to
the fullest ability. And we don't lower the expectation based

(27:55):
upon anyone's you know, rank on the team or something
like that. It's the expectation for the position. So whatever
team comes in to us, it's a facest opponent because
we're worried about ourselves. And when we take care of
business and we take care of what we can control of,
the scoreboard takes care of itself. Now, when you add
a face to this opponent, you got a good one.
Coming in right, Like I believe they've won the last

(28:17):
three state championships in a row and they've been bumped
up to eight A, so they have eight classifications in
Illinois and they're going to be playing at that highest level.
And you know, there's really good football over in that state,
especially in Chicago. I think Chicago is just a bigger
version of Cincinnati to a certain degree. And their league
is just like the gCO when you have Loyola, Saint Rita,

(28:40):
Brother Rice, like all those schools over there, so many
strong Catholic football.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Look at their schedule and you're thinking, is that we
played And I had.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
A lot of players that I coached when I was
a Dennisen from that area, and I had a lot
of teammates from that area when I played in college, right,
So somewhat fromamiliar with some of those schools in the
brand of ball that they play. So this will be
a top level, top notch game, top notch competition, and
really good coaches too.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
Anything that we're expecting from them, I mean, run heavy,
pass heavy, mix it up.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Expect their players to come out and do what they do.
They're going to get the ball to their dudes and
they're going to have their their players right a roll, right, Like,
they don't have the same quarterback from last year, but
they bring back I think seven offensive starters if I
remember correct, and I think about six on the defense
as well, so they bring back their whole defensive line.

(29:35):
One of their inside backers. They graduated kid that was
really really special last year.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
I hope he's doing well in college.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
But they got they got a lot of good players.
They're insanely talented. So we're really looking forward to playing
this team.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Well, this is a high school that has been around
for over one hundred years, found in nineteen hundred and
you know, two notable omni because I always like a
little history thing and you might not be aware who
Denny McLane is. Denny McClain was a pitcher. He was
the last thirty game winner in the Major Leagues with
the Detroit Tigers sixty eight. So he is a He

(30:15):
is part of the caravan from Mount Carmel High School. Now. Also,
they have a gentleman by the name of Steve Day Preisler.
I hope I say that right. And do you have
any idea what his claim to fame is.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
I can't say that I do.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
He is the only American to have participated in six
military engagements World War Two, the Korean War, First Indo
China War, Bay of Pigs Invasion, Vietnam War, and the
Dominican Civil War. Only American. Yeah, so, I mean they
got that's kind of cool. We have notable alumni. We

(30:49):
got a long list too, but they had some cool things.

Speaker 1 (30:51):
Their head coach was an alum at that school as well.
He's been there for eight years and he was the
Heisman Trophy finalist back in the day. But you have
them roll, there's no doubt about it.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
Now. Their nickname is the Caravan, So it's gonna be
a broadcaster's kind of nightmare when it's like the Caravan,
the Caravan, the versus like the Vikings or you know whatever.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
I could get away with saying Mount Carmel you can MC.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
I just have to worry that because their uniforms are
brown and white, I don't bring out the ups comparison.
So but but hey, we're Saint Bonaventure. Not too many
not too many brown uniform schools out there. But it's
all good, all right, coach. Uh, you know, it's exciting.
It's exciting to play a new opponent. But it can
also be kind of interesting because you know, they don't

(31:39):
know we don't know them. They might know a little
bit more about us because they can find one game.
But but it's gonna be fun.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
Well, yeah, I think both teams. I mean, with technology
these days and the way you can pass on information,
I mean, I'm sure they have all our games from
last year, and we definitely have all their games from
last year.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
You don't have anybody meeting halfway in Indianapolis exchanging the
the roles of film.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Like all that happening, which definitely saves time and budget stuff,
but it makes it a lot easier to exchange information.
And you just have to assume that they have both
of our scrimmages. You have to assume that they have
our prints in film, and you know, it is what
it is, right, they're going to come out and you know,
whatever it is, we'll be ready for it. And whatever
we do, I'm sure they'll be ready for it. So

(32:22):
they'll be a little bit of a meet and greet
early on, and then as you said, went to the game.
Everyone usually gets into what their DNA is, whatever that is,
and then it's just execution from that standpoint.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
It's gonna be a fun time in Ironton. And like
you said right early, the weather is certainly cooperating, so
it's going to be a good film. Takes no no, do't.
We don't need any storms rolling out from the golf
or anything. So beautiful time in Ironton and we're all
looking forward to it and hopefully Moller Nation shows out,
and if they don't, we'll bring in the action. As
we're getting people all across the country tuning in, Coach,

(32:56):
So it's gonna be a fun of fun Saturday. And
I always got a fun see going right now, so Coach,
always appreciate your time. Thanks Weeks. That is Bert bathy
And as you're listening to the Bert Bathyani Show sponsored
by Comy and Shepherd Realtors, I'm Jeff Schneiedle class of
nineteen eighty four, myself and Rob Foltz will bring you
the action, and of course Joe Strecker, the man, the

(33:18):
producer of the Year, he'll be he'll be putting that
all together. As you're listening here on w MOE and
the Moler Broadcasting Network.
