Have a guest today, Just we're not. We weren't looking
for a record of no guests. How many consecutive episodes
of that a guest could the Council's podcasts happened?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Did we do that?

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:26):
I got a haircut, you guys.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
I'm just saying, so did I let me see?

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Oh yeah, you really did.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yeah, I usually got much shorter.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah, it doesn't look like you were real hippied up.

That's right, I'm I'm not I'm paying.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
We'll give them a hint studying Bob, don't worry.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
I want everybody to shut their eyes and then when
you open them, looking back of Bob's head, and you
might just see a clue to who's coming on the show.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
If they're listening, they can't see behind that.

Speaker 7 (02:16):
They're not going to know until the show starts. Audio people,
here's one clue. In high school, you have varsity, but
you all also have JV. That's your clue.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I have a clue.

Speaker 8 (02:33):
Don't you think my clue is I will ring the
bell for you. Here's a third clue.

Speaker 7 (02:50):
It almost it almost surrounds and circum vincent and circles death.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
What Oh, yes, a hunchback of no tre game?

Speaker 2 (03:05):
The right hand is is that?

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Is that? Is that? Siblings? Is the name of the game.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
Like that? Here's a stretch for some people. Oh it
was all right? For what a good smile.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Us.

Speaker 7 (03:30):
By the way. We are at the Merryman Performing Arts
Center in Carneie, Nebraska. The Merryman Forming Our Center opening

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Are we going to.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
A mini residency show this time?

Speaker 7 (04:22):
No, we almost had a magic show, but we lost it.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
I mean we're going to do one.

Speaker 7 (04:28):
Do a magic show that sounds good.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Viewers surprise.

Speaker 7 (04:38):
The only thing that's come in near you guys this
September third, We're going to be on the Atlantic City
Boardwalk for is that Labor Day or Memorial Day, Labor
day for a labor day brew haw Sousan. Is that
chocolate or is that a real Egyptian artifact?

Speaker 4 (04:56):
It's an Egyptian chocolate artifact. You thought, so it's the
Eastern Egyptian.

Speaker 7 (05:03):
Oh, that's right.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Is that a chocolate?

Speaker 4 (05:11):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (05:11):
For those of you who have not guessed it, our
guest is going to be our brother John. Yes, And
maybe I'll say that because who knows, he might bring
his partner from Vicky Peterson and John Castle, the act,
the professional act.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
He might bring.

Speaker 7 (05:30):
He might be Vicky Peterson with him, So we'll hopefully that.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
He might be Vicky Peterson people.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Yeah, I don't think he will.

Speaker 7 (05:39):
I do you know why? It'll be because because they
have an album out.

Speaker 4 (05:46):
He's coming, so what.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
I would be attached to the hip at this point.
Let's see you to find out. We're going to find
out right now.

Speaker 9 (06:00):
John, you look wind swept, boy, you look wind swept.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
I don't feel great. So I just flew energy. I've
just been going and going and going and going, and
I just got that. Yeah, we were just got that
from a run. So and last night was the first
time I slept.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
In my bed and you were running like on your legs.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
You were head no no, no, in uh like you
know shows and you know late not sleeping in my bed.
They can't you know. Our flight got canceled and they
were saying it was going to be at one in
the morning, and then it wasn't that, and I started
writing on the wall. So I got a hotel room
and a thing and spent the night and then got
up in the morning at six and then got a

(06:48):
nine o'clock flight and it was fine. I mean, I'm
not wang. I'm just saying I'm just feeling you guys
know the exact same shit we do. But I think
it's I think it's my here two days ago.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Wait, but we're gonna ask him all these questions. We're
all hyped up, and he's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Vicky's, Vicky's Vicky will show Bob. I love your background.
You show the other one? How are you? I tried
to do it. I couldn't do it.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
We couldn't do that, Bob showing the other one.

Speaker 7 (07:20):
I got a lot of them.

Speaker 10 (07:21):
I love you.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
You're so funny, dude.

Speaker 7 (07:24):
I like, I actually liked this.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Looks a good one. Yeah, that's good. That's a good one. Yeah,
that's true. You have a good one. That's a good
shot at you too. I do Bob's work because the
other one show. Oh wow, that is wild. You know,
I jumping around.

Speaker 7 (07:47):
I've always wanted to. I've always wanted to be in
a car with you, guys, perfectly.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
That's my truck, that truck, haven't you everybody I've been
in that truck.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
You've been. He's driven my truck. Okay, guys, nice visiting
you guys.

Speaker 5 (08:11):
We want to bring the people in. We've got people
out there. Look at here's right now. Hey, guys, could
you please recognize us the audience. You know, when John's on,
it just seems like it's all about John, and it's like, wow, no, wait, let.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Me ask a question. So you have live people talking
to you while you're doing your podcast.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
We just pretend you, pretend we don't everything.

Speaker 7 (08:34):
Hey, I got a call coming in, a live call.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Turned down your radios, guys, turn yeah right.

Speaker 7 (08:44):
If you don't mind, I'm going to stick with this
picture because this is the album cover.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
I think you're making it a trio. Now you're in
the bank.

Speaker 7 (08:54):
Look, everyone's got their dreams and desires and if this
is as close as I get to the sixties slash
eighties phenomena known as Vicky Peterson and John Cassel, I'll
take it. I'm in the truck with them right now.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Well, and you'll get this. I got one hundred albums
here and one hundred CDs. They'll probably be there for
most of the years.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
Oh my god. We tried to give away a couple
of boxes a lighthouse.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
The other day. Ready to go.

Speaker 7 (09:24):
You guys can self deprecate all you want, but these
are very important pieces of work. And this is artistry.
This isn't yeah, this is about doing things for the
right reason and all that goes along with that. I
love it, of course, I know.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Yeah, bomb yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Okay, wait are we going to conduct this like for
real or are we just going to.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
But I do well hang on no, no, hang up
on So, but I just did want to say. What
you need to do is get a lightweight suitcase. So
a big suitcase that can take the beating that those
records and CDs and pictures and T shirts are going
to do on on all of themselves. You know about that,
but man, that's where you're going to sell stuff right

(10:09):
at that show.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
No, we're gonna sell stuff.

Speaker 7 (10:12):
Did you get them?

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Because they want you to sign it in front of
them and all that, All of it beat.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Vicky Ricky and I will direct traffic.

Speaker 7 (10:20):
Two big questions, Two big questions. Number one, did you
get cellophane wrap CDs?

Speaker 1 (10:27):
They are indeed, and that's gonna be time consuming because
people are gonna want to have you sign up. I
think we don't go through this.

Speaker 7 (10:34):
Number two, are they plastic?

Speaker 10 (10:38):
What?

Speaker 1 (10:40):
We're good? You're good there we need to move. It's
so funny with the actions closed. I shrink wrap our
first first versions of them, and then after that, I said,
people just want to send it. But some people are
quirky and they don't want something that it's been opened.
They said to you, you got so see that thing?

(11:04):
You see it? It's not a bird.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
That is a utensil that you can buy online and
it'll it's got a really nice pointy thing.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
I have five of them, but we've never had one
with us when we were never doing a meet and greet.
That's what we got them them. That's okay, Yeah, we
just take these on the plane with us.

Speaker 7 (11:26):
Well, do John's holding a butcher knife a weaponry.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
No, but.

Speaker 7 (11:34):
It's all about the meeting. You beat guys. You're gonna
have really good, big meet and greets, and you don't
want them to be cellophane. You don't want them to
be celephaned.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Okay, John, First, wait, Scott, let's get the beginning in
the show is done. You guys, do you have this
thing that moves in and out? Because when we move
we lack a camera. Do you guys see that you
come over to the bright watch this our camera will
follow us. Oh?

Speaker 7 (12:05):
Yeah, it looks like I'm following you took it looks
like the office, all right. Our guest on the one
hundred and seventy third episode of the Castle's podcast is
our brother John and Vicki Peterson Together. Vicky Peterson and
John Castle have an album come out coming out on

(12:27):
the eighteenth, correct eighteenth, you're right on the eighteenth. I'm
sure you can pre order it. You know, they have websites.
They're all over the fricking place. Now, it's incredible. I
love it and they are here. Their music presents a
foundation of spanning three decades, counting the seventies in between them.

(12:47):
So which I do? Which I do visibilidity there. So
they're spanning three decades of music into a fifth decade.
And here they are with us today. And that's a
beautiful picture of them in John's truck, and that's the
album cover from album Tire. And they can tell you
about Long after the Fire, you know, I mean, there's
more to tell than I even know. And I want

(13:08):
to hear more about Paul Allen too.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
Oh yes, but can I can?

Speaker 4 (13:13):
I kind of ask them a couple of questions, like
I need questions?

Speaker 1 (13:16):
Did I just yeah?

Speaker 4 (13:17):
No, I know they're too tired for.

Speaker 7 (13:19):
How y'all doing when you were five years old?

Speaker 9 (13:21):
John?

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Like okay, So, so y'all decided we're going to make
this record, We're going to do it from the Dead
Brothers songs, and so.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
You then you pick the songs.

Speaker 11 (13:31):
But then all of a sudden, why don't we just
talk to John tomorrow? But then y'all, y'all did these
renditions that were very you know, very unique and very
like special and not like the regular demos.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
And I've been hearing all all of these songs, a
lot of them for a long time, but not like
the way you did them. And how did you did
they naturally come out slightly different, or did you intentionally
go all right, let's do this.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
For instance, for a thousand times they did an acoustic
version of it, but I played drums. I want to
have drums and the pedal steel and stuff. I'm kind
of wanted to make it a full band. And and
Paul was great, Paul and our producer, he was great
and and helping us make that happen. So no, no, no,

(14:26):
I love to you because I don't have to say everything.

Speaker 10 (14:35):
He did there. Obviously, some of the songs, like the
Blue Shadows songs, we did want to honor the the field,
the genre.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
They're very old.

Speaker 10 (14:46):
School country arrangement, the arrangements we kept them for the
most part intact. Some a couple of Barry songs we
did expand and take liberty very much.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
So that's okay, I dig it. For instance, come to Me,
which is one of my favorite tracks there. I have
a cassette of that, And Susan, you're gonna love this
because Randell Barry and I Barry was staying at Baron
Bernard's you know, Michelle Bernard's home, you know, because he
was like that, So he was using their basement for

(15:24):
a rehearsal room, and so I don't know how Randell
and I ended up over there, but we ended up
over there, and we were working on that song and
a few others because he wanted to go play the
songs at the Troubadour. So we went to the Troubadour
and we called ourselves shopping Spree and you know, Randell

(15:47):
susan he brought a shopping cart on stage, and he
brought a hot plate and he was making scrambled egs.
It was a Monday night.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
At Oh was that what he was cooking on stage?

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Yeah, no, no surprise there, but you know, Barry very
kind of taken it. And Barry was like all over
the Whambi bar on this song because it was a
new trick he had, and you know, like anyway, so
and it was kind of more reggae kind of thing. Anyway,

(16:19):
So we're rehearsing that baron Broud. So we get to
the Monday night at the Troubador. Randall's got a shopping
cart on the thing, he's wearing a shopkeeper's aper and
he's making scrambled days. Now I know this is I
just driving our brother crazy. Guys, Let me tell you.
Oh yeah, not this, but that's where we did come
to me. And it's the only version of the song

(16:40):
Barry ever recorded, and I have the I have it.
I have that version, and that's all we had to
work off. We could hardly understand the words, but we
think we got both of his sports now.

Speaker 7 (16:50):
Jeff No, yeah, in a way, that's very cool.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Yeah, Jeff Fosquett did a version of this and he
added his own lyrics today and it was when Barry
was alive, so we figured he must have deemed it.
But we didn't want to use his words. We only
wanted to use Barry's words. So that's love it.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
I love it.

Speaker 11 (17:13):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (17:14):
But thanks to Jeff, we could find at least something
published a publishing. Yeah, that's like the code on the song,
so we could license it because we licensed all the songs. Right,
when you think you're recording your brothers, make sure you
make sure they're alive when you want to record it,
so you can just hey, man, can I play that
song Bob and Susan's song album still alive? Maybe I

(17:43):
don't have to pay you a license, right, my god,
let's let's let's start working on that I got a question. Okay,
so are you guys going to put a band together
and roll this album out in that manner or so
what is your tensions there as to you know, as
you support the album that me and Vickey and Paul

(18:06):
comes and plays pol stits and plays drums and he's
got a lap steel and he also plays bass, but
he can play drums and play bass at the same time.
And we just think, and it's a unique kind of
a thing. And you know, until I can afford a band. Yeah,
and because it's twenty twenty five, and we were so
late to the game with you know, finishing the album

(18:27):
and getting that done and getting a booking agent was
harder than getting a record deal, you know that by
you know, And so we have a booking agent now,
Dennis Kurtz, and he's What's What National, that's his company,
What's Next National. He's really cool and you know, we're
kind of He's given us fill in dates because it's

(18:48):
not the touring year. Twenty six will be the year
that we go out and tour and have a boom,
but we just want to open for people. You know,
we're not we'll headline band and the thing because we're
the oldest new band and you'll love this because you
guys will know, well, what's your numbers? Like, what do
you mean what are our numbers?

Speaker 10 (19:04):
Like?

Speaker 1 (19:05):
How many people can you bring in? Well, we haven't toured.
We don't know. We got to study. So we have
to start out like fifty seedars to one hundred seedar
and and get those numbers real.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
Quick and start there.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
You know. So we think fell out the Caves, but
that got sold out like really quick because it's and
I say, well that's pause, it's Los Angeles. But you know,
we'll see what happens.

Speaker 7 (19:29):
Where do you have the caves? Where do you have
the Caves of the eighteenth?

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Right from eighteenth? Is our West Coast release show, the
listening party, or it's it's called this is how people
do it. You perform at the thing. We call it
a recor release party. We don't just stand around to
offer orders and walk around listening to our album. Do
a show, right and we'll go sign autographs. And I'm

(19:53):
not going to get the surprises because I don't know
when this airs out? When does this air.

Speaker 7 (19:58):
Laura tomorrow night? You know, we're always late to the game.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
We always get in dead Are Wednesday, so we do Do.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
You have to do it every week? If you say
you're going to do I marvel at the people that
can do it every five days a week. Oh my god,
that to you know, I have a question.

Speaker 7 (20:25):
I have a question long after the fire don't look back.
I have a question about don't look back. So because
it's interesting, I hear the different things you did to
some songs, but to me and I didn't pull up
don't look back, okay to compare, but it sounded very
similar where you made a decision to go you know what.
I don't know if we can improve on. Was it

(20:46):
that kind of a situation. Did you try and do
different things but don't look back and go.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Back to We wanted to decide we wanted to do
the Council version. It was so beautiful and sounds. Vicky
wanted to learn the base part and that is that
is that is that is the that is the signature
part of that song. Was that Ba.

Speaker 4 (21:09):
And all.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
The Couso's version is a little more straight. Vicky has
had a tendency to put a shuffle bounce in it,
so we started out a shuffle and Paul starts put
a harmonic so very well done.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Vic.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
I played harmonic on it basically, but it still keeps
the folk miss of it. There's no hard edge to it.
It's our vocals.

Speaker 9 (21:42):
Still.

Speaker 4 (21:45):
That's that's the did and.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
I love it now and if the production values are better,
you know, because we're now first.

Speaker 7 (21:54):
So it's great to find a producer this guy, I medam.
It's great album that is out there in the world
for a lot of us whose ability has the ability
to get out of you the best of you have
to give, even if you don't have to get it
out of you yourself. It's incredible.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Oh yeah, we know people still exist, you know Lucky.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
Who I'm next.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
So we actually we're very glad you joined John Vic.
But I did want to ask him a couple of
separate Vic questions.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
Is that okay of course? And then I can ask
you separate Vic questions that John, I'll all go and
get yeah. No, oh, And anyway, you were doing it
the other night too.

Speaker 10 (22:40):
Tell us about this smithereen fun thing you're doing, that's John,
that's yeah, question we can of that.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
So after I got cam from the Beach Boys, I
love saying that it's funny because you know, I mean,
it's fine because you did so anyway, well.

Speaker 7 (23:07):
Subset.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Didn't get camped anyway.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
So after that we were working on the album and stuff,
and then we were up in this kitchen right here,
and you know, because like Susan, like you, you know,
every time I see him, I want to sing with
you guys, you know, And Dennis would come out and
sit in with the beach boys all the time. He
played drums and I'd go sing RONDI run all the

(23:33):
time we were in the East coast in New Jersey,
if we were in hit range, he'd come and bring
his friends and stuff. We had had such a great time,
and I finally said, Dennis, do you just want to
do you want to sit in? He says yeah, sure,
And so then we became a bit, you know, and
he'd come and I'd go down with front, sing Rond
or whatever that I was saying fun that it was fun.
So and I'd say, you know, I mut to sing

(23:53):
with the smithereen some day. You know, it wasn't gonna
happen because I was so full time beach boy, but
it was fun. And he said, that's interesting idea, you know,
and you don't know. Interesting can mean anything. So I
didn't know if he ever the idea, but so I
do understand. So we're up here in the kitchen and

(24:14):
Paul says, you should call Dennis and see if you
can sing with the Smithereens, and I went, dude, I
can't do that. I'm doing that.

Speaker 10 (24:24):
You know.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
It's like you said, you said to him, you you
want to sing with the Smithereens. Yeah, but people, i'd
be weird asking. I'm like, hey, sing with the Smithereens,
you know, because now my my real reality is there.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
You know.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
I'm all big talk up and but when it comes
down to it, I don't want to be turned out,
I guess. So I didn't want to ask. So but
if they said no, no, we don't want you, I said,
not right now because they because first of all, the
Smithereens have two lead singers, covering from DiNizio who passed
away years ago, and so it's Marshall Crenshaw, who's you know, Marshall,

(24:57):
and then a guy named Robin Wilson who plays lead
singer of the Jim Blossoms ban from the anyway. So
I did. I sat here and I called Dentis s
up and and I said, Hi, genisis John Colson going,
Hey man, what do you do? And I said, I
want to sing with the Smithereens and I want to

(25:19):
sing the song time and time again, and and I'm
just like bracing myself, like said sure. So I did
it at the Wonderbar on the Jersey Shore, one of
their main clubs that they play. And I went and
Vicky and I were there and and Tara from before
Crew came out. It was kind of really a fun night.

(25:42):
And got there and I sang time and time again
with him, and then we did now and then because
we sang, Vicky came up. We did the background so
now and then and then uh and did a couple
of Beatles songs and then and then Paul and I
flew to California to do it one more time with
him at the Libby Bowl and oh, hi, which you
have done? Happy to get so and being a local

(26:04):
guy there, that was great treat. And so we did
it there and their manager Lynn was there and he says,
came up to me after the show. You know, he
said something really funny. I wish I could have known exactly.

Speaker 7 (26:14):
How it went.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
But she said, and I said, man, that was so fun.
He says, heah, you sounded good. You sound good with
the guys. I said, yeah, man, that was and he said,
but then you know when people sit and they sound
good with Smith. It was it was it was, it
was a poke, it was and I thought it was great.
We I said, I'm like, Lucy, I can't remember what
the joke was, but it was fun and so everybody.

(26:39):
So he said, would you be interested in doing more gigs?
And I went, yeah, of course I would. You know,
I don't have a gig right now, you know, and
we're just still in recording process.

Speaker 7 (26:49):
So and I thought.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
It was like another whole year went by, so I
stopped learning the lyrics and stuff. You guys got a
good movie so loved me up. They had one date
that they said, you want to do a whole show
with this. Yeah, it's like, well, there's one in I
think it was Ohio and it was it was called
this festival, you know, some kind of fessel And I'm thinking, mad,

(27:14):
you guys have played all the stages in the festivals,
and like, this is could be cool.

Speaker 9 (27:19):
I get there.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
It was just I think there were maybe one hundred
and fifty people there or something. But it sounds like
a good crowd. Yeah, I had done. But but to
prepare for that, they gave me a lot of notice.
And so for two months, you guys too much. Oh yeah,

(27:42):
he was a sheet or any of that crowd. And
I did. All I did was try to learn that.
Oh man, home, learn that home.

Speaker 7 (27:53):
We're over again. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
For the first month, I just listened to them, and
I listened to Pats freezing, because it's about phrasing for me.
If I'm learning some of these stuff, the audience doesn't
notice that. They recognize the phrasing, Like they don't recognize
that I play the exact drum parts on the Beach
Boys stuff. But I do. And but they feel it.

(28:18):
They this is just like they feel, how great because
you're doing that Joe Joe first job, still talking for
the first month, That's why I did. Then the second month,
I started right now the lyrics over and over again,
just writing them out till I could write that works

(28:38):
out without looking at a cheap chet about it.

Speaker 7 (28:44):
I forgot.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Paul writes his damn job you've been writing.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
I do have a question for Okay, Vicky, So so here.
You guys are you know, two musicians twenty years.

Speaker 5 (29:02):
John's with the Beach Boys doing an insane amount of gigs, okay,
and you guys are with Bill and you know you're
doing the best you can, you know, just trying to
make it like, hey, we are together and we're a
musical thing. But now it's like really a serious thing now,
and so now you have to be out there with
John and you know, I just want to know you

(29:24):
have to how is that going?

Speaker 1 (29:27):
How is that going?

Speaker 5 (29:28):
Both of you being together more than maybe you've ever
been in your whole life, and then having to work,
and then also the nervousness of like, you know, putting it,
you know, up on the chopping block and handing the
cleaner out going here? Would you like a strong question
how are you doing?

Speaker 1 (29:44):
How is it? The question?

Speaker 10 (29:45):
But don't forget we did have the advantage of COVID lockdown.
So we did spend about a year together, okay, and
then we spent two years plus in a studio apartment
in New York City.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
And laugh again time and so it's like they were
in training.

Speaker 10 (30:05):
We kind of weren't ready for being like together under pressure.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Even we just get along so well, it's like, you know,
because okay, you all know we've known for since nineteen seventy,
so that's so she knew everything about me already, you know.
So they were as we were going to be a
couple ever, you know, So I don't know. We have

(30:30):
a we have multiple, multiple layers of a relationship. One
is brother and sister, one is just friends, one is lovers.
We just we we go, we go through those things
when we're doing stuff. But nobody laughs more than us too,
from the beginning when we wake up in the morning
to the end of the day. And if there's a
hot head here, it's me and I'm the one. And

(30:57):
she's so calm. I mean if I was, yes, they
would throw me out the door, you know. But like
and she gives me a mom look or something. I
just I'm so easy.

Speaker 7 (31:05):
I just back down.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
I don't want to have a bad day. I don't
want anybody, man, I don't like tier. We don't cuss
at each other and call each other everything.

Speaker 5 (31:13):
Yeah, and working with I guess being with the Action Skulls,
I bet did that have Did that help?

Speaker 1 (31:20):
And you guys kind of being able to learn musically,
you know.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
Where you all stand right with Billy there running the thing,
you guys got to learn about each other without it.

Speaker 10 (31:31):
Yes, And it is a good question because it is
a different layer on top of our relationship and so
and so.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
Starting with the.

Speaker 10 (31:39):
Action skulls, we kind of did creep into this, you know,
situation and the working relationship together.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
And during the lockdown we were in the Yeah, I
never wrote anything. I'm not a great writer. I have
a song, but you are. But I was able to
write with you guys on that and that was really
time and more musically, I was more tuned in for that.
Melodies and chord progressions I can do all day long,
but with the words.

Speaker 10 (32:11):
You're right, it's a different it's a different, a very
specific kind of relationship.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
And Susan, you know you work with your spouse, you know.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Yeah, we're very used to it.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 10 (32:20):
And you travel and you you know the business, you
split up your business duties.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
You know, we'll do it all administrating.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
We completely enjoy it. I mean, it is what we
love and we do too. Yeah, go Bob, And are
you counting? Are you counting? Sorry, just one more time here,
but are you counting on? Begal? Fans, VICKI to be
there and to support you and may yes, good question,
thank you.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
So she's afraid to talk because he's going to do
it again.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
I'm not afraid. But yeah, yeah, yes they will. They
will come out. They do come out, you know they could.

Speaker 10 (33:07):
And uh so what we what we've decided to do,
what we've been doing in our longer shows, our headlining shows,
is we honor all you know, we're serial band members,
both of us. This is the first time either of
us have ever released music under our own names. Have
to understand that, which, as far as the metaverse knows

(33:27):
and as far as metadata goes, we don't exist really.
I mean there's like four things, including Susan thank you
for you know, one of your records actually listed me
and therefore it shows up on Spotify.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
That's like four things.

Speaker 10 (33:45):
So all the things and many things and that So
so we honor our other bands, Continental Drifters, Action Skulls, Bangles, Causules,
and We Cool.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
You know, I have heard your version of here you
guys are great like that.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
It's hilarious, you know, but Here's and I can add
to that answer a little bit. You know, Vicky was
when we were first trying what are we going to
call ourselves? It's like, you know, I go but because
she kind of wanted to make it an interesting name
or something, and I said, oh, man, people won't pick

(34:25):
up the phone if you're you know, Fred and Tony.
You know, if you call it Vicky Peterson and ton
cowtill they pick up the phone saying oh I know
who they are. You not get anywhere after that, but
you'll get your phone answered. Whereas somebody knew out there,
who's nobody's ever heard of you. That's a tough that's
a tough world out there for them to get a

(34:46):
call from a possible booking agent or a record label
or something, and everybody calls. Because we didn't hide behind
who we are. I mean, we are a baby band,
but we don't have time for this sort of say
we know a time, you.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Know, to build a Brandah, are you guys interested or not?

Speaker 1 (35:05):
Because we really have to go to gotta go. We're
just and we don't hide behind that, you know, Because
I want the Castle fans to come. She wants the
bangle face and and and they do and they do,
so yes what they want to because it's man, I
have a blast playing man in money. I can't be.

(35:26):
I love being It's just hilarious. And people, it's just.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
Like being in your own karaoke band when we do
each other, when we do our you know, I mean,
we all experience it and then you being smithereen, it's like.

Speaker 4 (35:38):
I mean, it really couldn't be very joyous.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
They let us open form, so that's just so fun.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
That's cool. You know, Bob has a question. He forgot
his last one, so we should give.

Speaker 9 (35:50):
It to him.

Speaker 7 (35:50):
No, I was justus in my hands.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
The thing about what we're called your excuse and you'll
love this, you know, and that guys, we understand this world.
So like when you fill out a form like a
loan or you buy a car or anything that has
that document that taxes anything, they always put the guy's
name first, and even if he's not the most breadmaker,

(36:17):
always the man first. And she's the spouse, you know, absolutely,
it was a conscious decision to put her name before mine.
It's solidarity with that that I thought that was called. Plus,
it's cool Vicky and John as opposed like studying in
the area.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
It's just it's normal.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
Because of that stigmatism, because yes, STI what is the word?
I make up words all day, guys, and that's how
the dictionary started, so you can't upo me. Hey, buddy,
that's my tribal Listen.

Speaker 7 (36:58):
I want to go on record saying how proud we
are of the two of you, and how we're counting
on the two of you. Just listen to me. We're
gonna we're gonna lock onto your wings. You're the next
You're the next airborne councils. Okay, and we're all over
the place. Let me tell you so. And I'm gonna
tell you when John first got fired from the Beach Boys,

(37:20):
because I know he likes it said that way. I
wasn't one of all the fans started on those like
is he coming into the cosciles? He's coming to the
And in my I just got to tell you. In
my head, since we're pat in my head, I would
always say to myself, why would he want to go
from one cover band to another? And the only reason
I the only reason I think that is because no,

(37:41):
we're a cover band when it comes to making money.
We're a very good band when it comes to record
making and writing songs and recording. But those are two
separate factions in our life. Honestly, that are very hard
for our group to crisscross on. So we do both
and kind of parallel. But you guys are now the
airborne originalists. You're out there doing what John always wanted.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
We're doing.

Speaker 7 (38:05):
Excuse me, there are only cover tunes that have been
out already. These are brand new. People don't know these songs.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
No, and I got a brand new I got a
text from Jeffrey Hatcher just you know, because you t
was so helpful, because Bill's Canada. You guys to publishing.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Well, I'd like to ask you a lot of questions
about that, but perhaps it would be inappropriate and very
very stuff too.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
It's just like, not, how did you It's not out there.
We were Susan. We licensed everything. That's all you have
to do. We got compulsory licenses with we licensed.

Speaker 10 (38:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Well, I still want to talk to her later.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
It has nothing to do with that. It has nothing
to do with that you license.

Speaker 4 (38:53):
I know that, but I still want to talk talking
to right now.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
We're talking to each other.

Speaker 7 (39:00):
Caves of this kids at mccaves, at mccaves at the
McCabe show, is your show. This whole album from start
to Look, I know you do old hits.

Speaker 1 (39:09):
We all do.

Speaker 7 (39:10):
Is your whole show, the whole album?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
No, no, not all no, not because we're not doing
we're not doing the rock tunes.

Speaker 10 (39:18):
Yeah, we're doing the ones that that we feel good
doing as a duo and or trio.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
Yeah, so you know, because yeah, yeah, yeah, normally we
only get thirty minutes, and when we play a house concert,
we'll pull out more of those songs. Right, that's a
ninety minute thing, and that's a lot of talking for us,
because we like to talking. But you have coach from

(39:47):
an hour at the most, and that's what we'll be doing. Well.
I can't say anything about mccaves because we have a
surprise at mc cape.

Speaker 7 (39:53):
So it's gonna be a large meet and greet after
the show. You're not going anywhere.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
No, we'll be signing an autograph, yeah for everybody.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
Do you have a surprise?

Speaker 7 (40:03):
Would have been to that one, but I'm in Toledo.
I would have been that one.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
I know. I thought when I when I asked you,
I knew that you would be gone. Robinson. I'm Gonnak's
going to be gone, dude. I'm telling you, I know
how this rolls and.

Speaker 7 (40:15):
When he's during with three grand children.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
You guys are going to be.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
On the eighteenth, is that right? I'll be hacking out
court and sparking blue.

Speaker 1 (40:25):
No, okay, we saw that. I saw.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Iologized because I think I was asleep when when they
when he asked, I just don't remember saying yes to to.

Speaker 10 (40:36):
Oh, but it's gonna be perfect, It's gonna be so great,
it'll be something springing.

Speaker 1 (40:42):
Out in the part.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
And then we were at a party, yes, and we
were BAM you me and and Mickey, and we were
at the BAM party at very whole, very Chips Bullship
and Dwight and I had just broken up and he
happened to show up there. Remember a lot going on, remember,
So we sang the whole court and spark in his

(41:05):
kitchen started to finish in the kitchen you mean Mickey?

Speaker 4 (41:08):
Yeah, he did for all the whole.

Speaker 7 (41:14):
Mccabs.

Speaker 4 (41:16):
What's after mccaves cowco kid Away?

Speaker 7 (41:21):
That's too big. I couldn't get that.

Speaker 4 (41:26):
I'm sorry, Johnko, go back to the beginning.

Speaker 1 (41:31):
Question they asked, and then I went answered, what's after mccabs? John?

Speaker 10 (41:35):
Right?

Speaker 1 (41:35):
Okay, after McKay is oky Illinois at the Performing Pack
Center in the North Shore pac Center with the Smothereens.
Nickey and I are doing a show before that listening room,
listening room call Bell Bell Bell, Bill Bell Bell Film.

Speaker 4 (41:57):
That's why I'm booking agent.

Speaker 1 (41:59):
And then I'm going to going to Nashville and we're
going to be in Nashville for you can go to
my website. Well, I was gonna say so people can
find out where you're playing.

Speaker 10 (42:10):
On for real pile for real Vicky and John dot
com will take you to our website.

Speaker 7 (42:17):
It's a number one. You have a lot of websites
or are you're down to that one? Well, I've always
had Okay, we.

Speaker 1 (42:24):
Are not a band per se. We are individual artists.
So if you go to Spotify, you'll get one or
the other, but it brings you the same stuff, kind
of like Alison Kraus and Robert Plant. They aren't They
didn't make a unit out of themselves. It's it's a
weird thing. A lot of a lot of more metadata
goes into becoming that for those platforms, the desps and so.

Speaker 10 (42:46):
But you have one website for the two of us,
and it is John John Indicky dot com, Right, SUPERKAYJN
and Vicki dot com, Vicky.

Speaker 1 (42:56):
And John dot com.

Speaker 4 (42:58):
Maybe my dyslexia k Vicky and.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
The screen around so you can save it again. Where
are you got right?

Speaker 4 (43:09):
Why does it look so white there?

Speaker 1 (43:11):
Because here's why it's white, Susan.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Yeah, because look I couldn't see the tan and there
looks like you're in a white kitchen.

Speaker 4 (43:21):
I'm like, where the hell are these guys? I know
where you first of all?

Speaker 1 (43:24):
This is why color white behind us? All right? Is
that new, Susan. No, you know this room, I know,
but I couldn't.

Speaker 4 (43:36):
The kitchen there you are, there, you.

Speaker 1 (43:38):
There, you are sitting at the kitchen table. That's your house.
I know, but I didn't know.

Speaker 4 (43:43):
We're angle. We were looking at you know where they are.

Speaker 1 (43:50):
No, we're not discussing anything because I was invited to
a show today and you're getting me.

Speaker 7 (43:57):
One final thing and then the kitchen.

Speaker 9 (44:00):
John.

Speaker 7 (44:04):
So, Paul, Paul and I would like to and you're
going to be the last member of this group. We
would like to personally welcome you to the life of
Once in a while people coming up to you and saying, man,
you sound just like Bill. Okay, So welcome to that club.

Speaker 1 (44:19):
We're in it.

Speaker 7 (44:21):
We both we both kind of channel Bill once in
a while and hear that comment once in a while.
Paul heard that from already Cornfeld himself, and welcome to
the club. It's just the three of us, now.

Speaker 1 (44:32):
Cool. You will hear it.

Speaker 7 (44:35):
You will hear it.

Speaker 5 (44:35):
Else you would have to say, you guys that you're
pretty happy.

Speaker 1 (44:42):
Yes, yeah, but I'm going to get it talking to
about something. It's going to be something about the kitchen remodel.
Oh god, we'll get to the bottom of it.

Speaker 7 (44:56):
Just get ready if you're going to get spoken to
about something, just got ready for or well, what was it?
Get ready for?

Speaker 1 (45:02):
You know what it was, and then you don't know
what it is. Now stop it going to mc caves.

Speaker 7 (45:15):
It's sold out. But let's get a group outside the club. Okay,
you want to bomb the caves? Okay?

Speaker 1 (45:22):
And even if you I'm so excited about the surprise.

Speaker 7 (45:25):
Friday night, Friday Night, Okay, Friday Night, A big surprise.

Speaker 4 (45:32):
I mean they're doing an album. I two dead guys.
So my brain's just realized.

Speaker 1 (45:36):
I know, well, you know, we tell the people that
it's the Dead Brothers project officially, you know, for sure,
so I mean unofficially and and uh and then we
thought that'd be cool and we went on like everybody's
done a dead brother something. Yeah, we want to get
placards Bill and Barry up there with you?

Speaker 4 (45:58):
Yes, absolutely, you mean you mean like standing.

Speaker 1 (46:01):
Cards guy, full size placards full size?

Speaker 7 (46:04):
Yeah, yeah, awesome, Hey, Vicky, you get you get pictures
of Bill and Barry and you create some kind of
video thing, or you get life size stand ups and
they can stand on stage with you.

Speaker 1 (46:19):
I mean Andy Williams. Andy Williams was standing with us AI.
We're taking these on tour with people. John.

Speaker 7 (46:33):
I gotta tell John has both with Bill's ashes and
Barry's ashes in them.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
He has a man that is good.

Speaker 7 (46:41):
Barry and Bill lived with John. Vicky. I remember when
John called me and said, do you want do you
want to have a turn with Barry on your mantle?
And I turned him down. I just did.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (46:56):
Yeah, it's fun always, Jerry. No ghost like to be here.

Speaker 4 (47:02):
Actually I like them too, You've had them many years.

Speaker 7 (47:05):
All right, goodbye, everybody have fun Friday.

Speaker 1 (47:10):
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa? You asked him here?

Speaker 7 (47:15):
No, we're contracted for like forty eight minutes, Max, and.

Speaker 1 (47:19):
That's all man, because there's none. I don't know anybody
in our business who actually pays.

Speaker 7 (47:26):
For the for the.

Speaker 1 (47:29):
We don't do professionals, and we only go to forty
five minutes.

Speaker 7 (47:34):
We can go forever. We got the real one, Yeah,
we could if we want it. We don't want Listen,
we got in a conversation with somebody I can't remember
who it was, and he wouldn't stop talking. And you
gotta let some people go. Either Steve.

Speaker 1 (47:50):
It was either Steve, Steve or Pat Boon boom you guys,
I saw that one. Yes, he took home and John
Felix sends his love always and Peter Noons too, Yeah,

(48:10):
I played with him. Yeah, that's always Peter. Where's that switch? Gloria?

Speaker 7 (48:21):
Hello, you got lovely daughter? All right?

Speaker 1 (48:27):
He sounds just like he's better than ever. Peter Noons.
We agree.

Speaker 7 (48:33):
We saw him on the on the cruise.

Speaker 1 (48:36):
I know what, guys, I follow you on every social
media platform. I had. My belly was so sore from
his show. I've seen it before, but man, it is
some funny stuff. Dude. When I played for my fieldings
for day for our cover and uh and Uh, I
just had the best time man, and I had to

(48:57):
wear the British suit and everything. You know, Oh cool,
fun and he's just he's just funny guy. He's so sweet.

Speaker 7 (49:06):
I just love him.

Speaker 1 (49:08):
We love him.

Speaker 7 (49:09):
When we played with Peter Noon that the first time,
we didn't know a show, okay, and about forty five
