So I went in today, so I thought I was
getting another PSA yet again. And I didn't get another PSA.
I got a blood a blood draw. And the blood
draw was to look at all those weird abbreviations that
you see.

There's like twenty of them or thirty, you know, yeah.

And then it puts you in between, you know, the bracket,
and so everything on me was green bean, green green.
The only thing that was brown was the white blood count.
And so then I looked that up and so it's
supposed to not be higher than eleven and I'm eleven
point five. But the thing is is, and you guys
know this. I had that kind of whatever was lingering,

that honking it started with a honking cough.

You came out so congested with a crud.

And I think that's what it is. But anyway, but
tomorrow I have not the operation. I have the appointment
tomorrow to go over all these numbers. And the only
one bad is that, and so we'll know that tomorrow.
And the other thing is man So, Susan, I have snaked,
so everybody my kitchen has been blocked out up and

then I had to go away for like four or
five days and Louie's been working with pans and this
whole thing, and uh so I got home and then
uh and so today I got up and I get
got on it and got the snake, and I snaked
the whole thing.

I think I got to find out how long that
snake is.

And man, I snaked the whole thing and it was
coming back and forth with a lot of weird goo and.

All that, and then when I put water in, it
seems to back up again. I mean this, I know.
I put this pipe in.

It's going from here to a dry tank, a big, huge,
gigantic plastic tank that you cut your drill holes everywhere
in it, sure, and then you put that and then
you put rocks all around that, you know, and it's
all supposed to seep out.

The funny thing I'm wondering, Paul, if all this problem

to take off so much of your time, but I
was thinking about how yeah, about how cool it was

to make it in the big city. Because we were
literally outside that place on fifty third and Broadway, a

block from where we lived, and we were there waiting
for an uber. But but we were there and the
and the city was vibrant and it was happening, and
there were people everywhere, and you know, we came out
of a full house of our own at a ridium.

Eyeing our trade in twenty five.

And there we were.

I mean, it was truly and here we are waiting
to do the hard part of the whole gig and
that's everything else except the show, and you know, and
you just you walk into that and there we were,
and it would have been great to get a picture.
It was just like waiting for the freaking.

Uber, you know, your pictures of the three of you.

The fund is over.

Now we've got to get back into like the hell
hellish part of it all.

What was great?

It was Halloween night, Yeah, performing on Times Square. Basically, Okay,
we're buried in a basement somewhere, but so what less
Paul liked its ghost that's right. But what was cool
was when we came out late at night after our show.
The energy in the city was so positive and it

wasn't dark and dress, I mean, and you got the
kids doing their TikTok video. Oh yeah yeah, and this
is going on and that's going on, and it felt like,
you know, this feels like could say it's nice out here.
It was really a nice energy.

It was it was it was energy. And thanks for
even like bringing it up, because I was in it
not thinking much other than what a nice night it
was and right for New York City and our hard
times we are yeah, and.

Aridius Fokes and the Avenel performing Arts, Uh theater folks,
How great it was to hook up like that. That's

And look, we've been here a long time. They've been

listening to our stuff and our story for EBBS, might
be nice to hear something a little different, you.

Know, Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's it's an interesting thing. And
to you strip that band away from the vocals and
but even even on there's some climb and we can
fly when we hit that may and even I'm listening, going, oh,

those are interesting harmonies. I'm like, I'm in the middle
of it, right, but if yeah, yeah, I thought above
my head, I've that well, this is a very interesting harmony.
I'm singing here with these guys, I don't hear it
with the band.

It promotes more awareness of what we're doing to a
point where even in a muscle memory, cellular way, whereupon
I've been playing an acoustic guitar for twenty years with
these songs and with a band, so I have my
nuances will alone, I'm like, well, my nuances aren't where

I need to play more. I need to do more.
I need to be better. And even moving around, even
though it's less moving, I'm breathing differently, so I'm coming
up short of breath like a dope on the things
I've been singing for fifty years. It's a challenge, but
it's kind of groovy.

Yeah, like with the with the full band, you know,
I can't. I can honestly say I've never really thought.
I just assume or know that I'm singing well, and
I can usually feel that in me, you know. But
but and so now here we are doing this trio gig,
and just like the things that I really focus on,

our oo's all these different oohs.

And you know, for granted, when.

Are we going up or were going down?

You know, and usually just in the show Man with
the rock band, it's just like that, Wow.

We're looking at each other, going are we hearing everybody.

The full band is like a train wreck and yeah,
because you're just and you do your best.

And controlled chaos. We know exactly where our train is.

Wrecking the train and the Christmas story there with Tom Hanks,
it's that train ride. It's like something expressed express train
ride out of control with the band now with the group,
though with the trio you got three four is ten
fingers between Susan and made twenty fingers and twelve strings.

Now that's a lot. We can make a lot of
sound with that, and we do. But like Susan says,
when you're doing the Trio show, you start digging down
inside yourself a little deeper than you normally would, yes,
setting because so then.

You might miss a harmony you've been doing for so
long and now you're not.

I kept not coming in on the front of week
and fly I have sang see how the fluffy clouds. Yes,

I heard you know, songs from different places on this
week again, like the Avenel, I heard an Abel and
the song we Get There just man so full, and
it does sound like wow, you know, I'm listening and
then I'm looking to see, like who's doing all the
singing here?

And it's just the three of us, but we are
doing well.

Speaker 5 (10:17):
We are doing because of that trio and how how
we've got to really be like you and me, Bob.

God, what we were singing? I don't know the song.
Oh it's the love song, freaking love song. Okay, that

And you know, like you know I'm coming in just raw,
you know, like you've been singing and now you're going
to go into the car. Yeah, and I know, Wow,

fit the thinnest piece of paper in between us being off.

And it's like, how are we doing it?

Like for real, And then there was the whole Ira
visit and everything that was really cool. Our friend Ira,
we should have him on. He's a council historian. And
frankly it'd be like because the guy would take it
from the second we got him on until the second week.

Yeah, you so, just so you know, Paul advances the
gigs we do. I do contracts immersed, Paul does advancing
and and and each has its own thing. So he
decided we have a good friend Iron from the old days.
And Paul says, hey, we're gonna have a hotel room
the first time hotel room the last night in between

gonna we're gonna be with Ira. And that's the last,
honestly that me and Susan heard. It truly is because Paul,
because we didn't ask we want, he want to work
on that. He advances. We know we're going to be
somewhere so now, but toward towards it's time to leave,
and you haven't heard much. You go, you know, we're
just gonna roll with whatever this is. And and uh,

I figured for the best I could do three months
on a bus and a berth man. Can I can
do anything? You know, honestly, Well, where we end up
is in a luxury condo right across the Hudson River
in New Jersey looking back at the Manhattan skyline on
the Wow, the thirty fifth floor of this beautiful tower

complex in Guttenberg, Jersey.

The Galaxy.

I'm going to do my best chair the Galaxy.

And it all worked out. It was funny though I
was saying to I was, yeah, there it is. I'm

keeping in real close contact with him as it was approaching.

And then one day I called and he goes, hey,
I've got a surprise.

Know, like that, and so and so then we talked
and talked and then he goes, yeah, and I go,
what's the surprise. He goes, well, the guy that had
we share a wall. That was his thing. We share
a wall. That's how close he is. I share a
wall with a guy who's never at his apartment, and
I kind of take care of it for him. And
I'm going to talk to Eric. His name's Eric, and

we'll see if we can't use that. And then and
then I talked to him the next day and he goes,
we got Eric's house. He goes, oh, you're not going
to believe it. And you know, and again I don't
know what kind of what his environment is that he's
ligit for so long.

Yeah, like we've heard a lot about the apartment, you know.
And then he's saying, well, Susan can sleep in.

My bed, but it's going to have medicine balls and sledgehammers.

Russ Bob and I aren't saying anything because we're it's Ira.
We're going to sleep wherever the heck.

To roll couches and it is gonna end up being

need to come on and give us some details about Blondie, Deborah,
Harry Early, Neil Young, what was the other one? We

a third time because you're first of all. The first
visit was this guy's way more than the cowcils. The

we're gonna spend our next year is just surviving our
crazy father and the obstructionist that he was. And we're
gonna spend time doing that, and you're gonna go off
and do these amazing things that we don't even know about.

Well, I specifically have a question about Neil Young. I mean,
are you talking about everybody knows this is nowhere or
even before that? What Neil Young are you involved with?

Speaker 7 (18:54):
Well, it's started out when I ran Roulette Records, okay,
and I put Tommy Jane and Hanky Panky, even though
I hated the record, but I wanted to do a
favor of the Tommy and Neil.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
As a musician.

Speaker 7 (19:11):
I always thought Neil was way ahead. You know, he
was nine inch Nails before nine inch nails, right, And
Neil's is a brilliant man.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
And I love Neil. I loved his music.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
So how did you meet him? How did he come
into your meet him?

Speaker 1 (19:29):
He came, They came to me, okay, his manager and
Tracy Neil Neil and Elliott Roberts, his manager, were borders.
They never even had a contract for thirty years.

Speaker 7 (19:41):
Wow, they just flip between them and uh. Neil Elliott
called me up at home in LA and he asked
me to come over and he played me. He played
me Tracy Chapman Fast Card and it wasn't done. It
was a demo and I said, I like it, you know,

And I said, I don't promote records. I said, I
promoted Woodstock and all that, but I believe in telling
the truth. Anything I do is going to be the truth,
no matter what the repercussions are towards me or opposing
to me, because I'm not in competition with anybody, only myself,

(20:26):
and I keep losing.

So Neil played me a.

Speaker 7 (20:33):
Couple of cuts off the Freedom album and I heard
Rocket in the Free World and Unknown Legend, and I said, Neil,
what do you need me for?

Speaker 1 (20:42):
He said, Ali.

He said, I've put out fourteen albums and I don't
have one platinum record. And I said, well, if you
are in New York City, re building writer and not
a space down West Coast, get joints and let's get
oye and talk about it, then you know you can't
sell enough to be golden platinum unless you have two
hits on album. That's the rules, the formulas, the rule

in the industry. And you know that's why I used
to take a subway into the city, you know, to
learn to learn the business, to learn the music part.
Because you know I was a trumpet player. You don't
even know that, and I played. I played classical trumpet.
In fact, I watched the Channel Grit and every time

the Lone Ranger comes on, I sing the high trumpet part.

I thought you were going to say you played him.

Speaker 7 (21:39):
I was old North Carolina, first year solo when I
was in the tenth grade.

So you could handle that, that's for sure played.

So I played the way until overture.

Alreadie. I also watched GRIT. I love the Channel Grit.
I love Technic Color. But listen, So back to Neil Young.
So now it says you're this independent record promoter. Does
that role even still exist? What did you do back then?
What does that mean that you had a big role

in making these things big hits? In what way?

What did you do well?

Speaker 7 (22:17):
I helped Brag Carroll start the Rock of the eighties
at k Rock in LA because he was a good
friend of mine, and I didn't do promotion for anybody.

The only thing I had promoted.

Was Aerosmith because they were going under and the manager
asked me to help them with their Nightmare tour, and
I I listened to the Arrowsmiths and then I listened
to Neil, and I said, Neil, I got to think
about it, and then I thought about it, and I

saw another record that I had guitar on it, and
that could be a top ten record, and it was
I think it was unknown Legend put that out first.
They hold back Rocket in the free Room. Yeah, and
you know what, it's natural. I love Neil and I
love the music and it was honest. So I hired

(23:13):
the six top promotion guys in the country that were
friends of mine to work on Tracy and O'Neil, and
they both want.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
And what is working When you say work on Tracy
and Neil? What are they doing? Going down to radio
stations still like the old days, and.

Speaker 7 (23:35):
The people that I hired you can't hire. It's their
power that they have at radio. The one promotion guy
may control, may control a million dollars in advertising station
is going to get that year. So it's like, and
you know, obviously from watching you know that I never

did anything for the money.

I did it to do it.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
You know, now, Artie, did you go in the studio
with Neil? Did you record with him? Or were you
just about getting him out where we could find him?

No, Neil just I took the album home and I
listened to it and I said to Neil, okay, I'll
do it. And then they sent a letter to Warner Brothers,
a legal letter for Tracy Chapman and Neil saying Warner
Brothers is in no way to promote or market Tracy Chapman,

O'Neil young Artie Cornfel is the label. So Artie has
the last word or work. It's done, okay. And I
felt comfortable with it because I love Neil, and my
mother founded the Freedom Rids and that led to integration
FM radio, and so taking fast Car and breaking the

color barrier was very important to me because my mother
put the freedom rights together and that history wow.

So uh. And then with Neil, it.

Was it was natural because he had rocking in the
free world and ill putting that out. I told one
of brothers, I don't want to put that out, uh.
And I sat back and I thought it out, and
I sent them over to Berlin and he sang Rocket
in the Free World two days after the reckon was

going to come out, because that was that was it,
I mean, rocking in the Free World at the Berlin
Wall and it was coming down.

Made that a natural anthem already wow only that international.

put and I put four lines a cocaine now, and

I start them off, and then I feel something wet
going down my left led and I take a look
