Speaker 1 (00:06):
I don't know, Quinn. Hi, this is Danny Felt and
you're listening to the Danny Felt Podcast. On this episode,
we are going to talk about the importance of advocating
for yourself and putting yourself out there. Here we go. Hello,
(00:27):
this is Danny Fell, and I'm so excited to talk
to you guys today about the topic of promoting yourself,
of self promotion, of shameless plugging yourself to people so
that they know you exist. I know it can feel
kind of embarrassing sometimes to tell people, Oh, I'm an artist,
this is my music, this is my business, this is
(00:50):
whatever it is. But the truth is, if you do
not promote yourself, then how are people gonna know that
you exist? As a business owner, as someone that runs
a company, I constantly have to connect with other people.
I constantly have to tell people what I'm doing, because
(01:12):
if I didn't, I wouldn't be in business. I think
sometimes we think that we can just hide behind a computer,
put out an offer, put out music, and hope that
people just magically come across it on their social media profiles.
But the truth is, it takes work, it takes time,
(01:34):
it takes action steps to really put yourself out there
and to build momentum. One strategy I do, which you
totally don't have to do, is like I will send
an emao blast out to my list about my podcast.
As an example, I was like literally doing that today.
I send an emo blast to my email list today.
It has about five hundred people, so it's not like
(01:57):
a huge list, but you know, it's still at the
end of the day, it's not really about having a
million fans. It's about having the right fans. And so
I sent up my podcast and I saw, like I
think at least like seven percent of my email is
clicked on it, which is awesome. And so you have
to ask yourself, like, how are you promoting yourself? How
(02:18):
are you getting yourself out there? Like what are your
strategies to tell people that you exist? Because let's face it,
there's a lot of noise in the world. There's the news,
there's politics, there's religious stuff. There's your hobbies, there's your
love life, there's your family, there's your friends, there's social
(02:39):
media ads bombarding you all day. We live in the
attention economy, so we have to constantly be in people's
minds to remember that we exist because otherwise your competitors
are going to get the attention of your consumers. So
how do we do this? One way is make sure
(03:02):
that you have an email list and you're sending emails
out like every week, like at least once a week
to tell customers or potential customers or fans what you do.
So this could be an email on tips for x business,
or it could be linked to your own podcasts and
(03:23):
your own content. It could be an interview with someone
in your industry. It could be discounts to a service,
it could be information about an event that you do.
It's just really important to stay in touch with people.
Another thing I'll do is I'll send a text message,
like a very simple message, Like today, I send a
(03:43):
message to my friends saying like, hey, I just launched
this podcast. I just want to send you a link,
and I just like send them the podcast link. And
so if people respond, great, If they go listen to
it and they don't respond, awesome, But like, if I
didn't do that, how are people going to know what
even exists? Right? Because we're in the attention economy, and
(04:04):
so because things are so pulling on our attention twenty
four to seven, we have to remind people we exist.
Another great strategy to do this is just like texting
someone like, Hey, how's your summer been? Hey, what are
you up to? You could even try calling people if
you're that if you're that courageous. Some people don't even
(04:25):
like talking on the phone anymore. I mean the gen
Z generation does not like talking the phone. But millennials,
I think they'll get on the phone and higher. So
one thing you could do is just send a simple
text out. You don't even have to tell people like
that you have a business if they already know about you.
It's more like just opening a line of communication. So
(04:45):
just saying something like hey, how's it going, Hey, how's
your summer going? Hey, I haven't heard from you in
a while. What's new? Right? And then that opens a
whole line of communication, so you can connect with people
and start networking and building a bridge and building relationships.
And I use the word networking loosely, but what I
(05:07):
basically mean is connecting with the person like you just
connect with the person and build that authentic, real relationship
and eventually people usually tell you what throw up do.
So say you're talking to a business and like a
small business owner, and they say oh yeah, I'm like
working on launching my company. Then you see all that's awesome,
(05:27):
I'd love to hear more about it, and you start
a genuine conversation. You don't just jump into, oh, I'm
a web designer or like, oh I do branding. It's
like you need to actually figure out like what your
customers need before just like jumping into like just selling
your services. So just sending a simple text messages away.
I also have a LinkedIn newsletter, so I will create
(05:49):
like a newsletter and post that out. I think I
have like twelve hundred subscribers or something close to that,
so that's also like another outlet. If you don't have
a newsletter on LinkedIn, you could totally start one. LinkedIn
is an awesome platform to build relationships. So today, for example,
I just want into chat dbt, asked to help me
(06:11):
write a press release, posted the press release, and posted
my link to my podcast, and that was it. It was
very simple. Another thing you could do is post on
social media like Facebook, like Instagram, post your stories. I
also created like a story on Instagram that shared shared
with people that I have a podcast. I just launched
(06:31):
a podcast. I put the link directly in my story
so that people could find it. I mean, there's so
many different ways to get yourself out there. But the
point is that we are in the attention economy, so
you really need to think about what strategies you're gonna
use to start building awareness of what you do. Whether
(06:52):
you have a new song out, whether you're a business owner,
whether you have a new course, a new book, a
new event. It's so important to constantly remind people that
you exist. So think about what strategies you're gonna start
implementing into your life to start reminding people about awareness
about your brand or your music. Let me know how
(07:13):
it goes. Feel free to send me a message on
the strategies you're using and what's working, what's not working,
and I will see you on the next episode. Thanks
for listening. Hi, this is Danny Fel and thanks so
much for listening to the Danni Fel Podcast. Stay tuned
for the next episode. See you then.
