the final, the final regularly scheduled Live on the Levee
happening tonight. Had ed Riverfront Park, but there may be
some wiggle room in there. Jim Strawn is going to
join us to talk about that, coming up a little
bit later on. One thing I can tell you is
the weather is going to be absolutely fantastic. You know,

(02:01):
there's still the chances of rain I think this morning,
but after that lower humidity is going to be a
great night for live on the Levee tonight. Of course
tomorrow the Taste of Nitro is going on. We talked
about that yesterday with Joe Stevens on the show. So
get out there and enjoy some activities this week. We'll
talk to Jim Strong though about Live on the Levee.
Also delicate Hollis Lewis is going to stop by this

of course we'll get into some things going on at
the news. The big news here locally yesterday, and we
talked about on Metro News midday yesterday that this unfortunate
event that in this lead story this morning wv Metronews

(02:46):
dot com happening with a bailiff within the Kenawa County
Sheriff's Department. That bailiff has been fired and is sitting
in jail now at South Central, And we'll talk about
that coming up a little bit later on. Let me
bring in our good buddy though it's Friday, which means
we talked to Angie Gillen from the Ganallala Charleston Humane
Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Angie,
Good morning, welcome to the show, and happy Friday.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Good morning and happy Friday, and.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
As always our pet of the week's photo posted on
my social media it's Dave Allen Radio on Facebook and
at Dave A seventy one X. Tell us about the
cat known as Midnight's.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
So, Midnight is literally about two pounds of just buzz
and hair. Midnight is, like I said, two pounds, two
months old. He's already been neutered. And the exciting news
is Midnight is one of mini cats that we have
moved into the Tay's Valley pet Co, into those pet

(03:41):
Co penthouses.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
The pet coo penhouses. And I've got a special place
in my heart, as you know, for cats. But also
the last cat that my wife and I had two
now with the one we had for a number of
years that we had to have put down was a
black cat named Midnight. So I don't have to ask you,
o Ryan, for nextlanation of what that name means. I
know about Midnight, what's Midnight's story. I know that he's

(04:06):
as you said, he's living it up right now and
the Petco penhouse at Tays Valley location of petcoll But
what's the story.

Speaker 5 (04:14):
He actually came in as astray with another sibling and
no mommy cat or anything like that. So just a
straight hitting orphan that needed somewhere to go and grow
big and strong to be available for an option.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
And he's a beautiful cat. Now you said he is
newtered is he vaccinated as well? I didn't catch that.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
He is as up to date on vaccines as we
can get him. He's still a little young to have
a rabies vaccine, so if you do decide to take
Midnight Homekeeper in mind, you'll have to do that at
three months old. But right now he's fully vaccinated as
he can.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Be for two months old. But you have to have
another round when he turns three months old. Three months old.
Let's talk about one of your big events coming up.
He went Kegs for Canines on the way.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
Kegs for Canones is coming up literally next week, and
that would be four to seven pm at the Red
Carpet Lounge. And if you are interested in drinking beer,
petting dogs and raising money for a good cause, this
is the event for you. It's much more relaxed than
Texas and Tails, and you can honestly buy tickets up

(05:21):
until the day of the event, Like you can show
up at Red Carpet and say you want to come
in for kegs and we will let you in.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
It's a great event, and I have an opportunity last year.
Steve Animal and I were there last year for the event,
and it's a great event. As you said, it's very,
very laid back. It said one of the best places
in Charleston to have events like add over the Red
Carpet Lounge and those folks A big shout out to
those folks for turning over their property for the day
so you can have a few drinks and maybe grab
something to eat, and maybe adopt a pet. We told

(05:49):
you the story once before about our good buddy Mark,
friend of the program, who adopted a dog named Miller
last year at that event. And I was at an
event with the a couple of weeks ago and I
got a chance to ask him about Miller. Miller. Miller
was taken from that event and he's doing fine.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Goh yeah, I am so happy to hear that. I
actually got to see Miller at another event we did
and got like a little update on him in between
the last time we talked about Miller, So I am yeah,
I'm very happy to hear that. And he has grown
into such a beautiful dog because he was just a
little puppy when he was Oh.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Yeah, yeah, he's a beautiful dog. We're talking to Angie
Gillenwater our weekly check in with the folks of the
Canalled Charleston, New Maine Association. But Dave Allen showing five
Andy Live is brought to part by Morgan and Morgan,
America's largest injury law firm. Let's talk about numbers at
the shelters.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
So numbers are becoming a little bit more manageable. We
are at least not breaking five hundred anymore. We're born
into like the four to fifty range, So still crowded,
still need to more wiggle room with adult dogs and cats,
but a lot better than we have been. And we
actually have an adoption special right now where you can
come to the shelter and spend our wheel of fortune

(06:59):
if you will, you spin a whee that determines your
adoption fee, and that is for adult dogs that are
already stayed.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
And utered, and you got some great looking animals. As
I do every Thursday night preparing for the show, I
always so you go over your social media pages and
you just you got some great looking animals right now.
And it doesn't matter what if you want an older dog,
you want a younger dog, you want a puppy with cats,
you want a cat full grown, or you want a

(07:26):
kitten or whatever. You pretty much got whatever anybody would
want up there. All as they say in the car business,
as you all makes and all models ready to.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Go, absolutely there are some things everybody's type is at
the shelter right now. I can promise you that what.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Are you currently in need of? As far as donations,
I know there's some things we talk about every week
that you need. You're always looking for towels and newspapers
and things like that. What else can people help out with?

Speaker 5 (07:51):
So the things right now that are running extremely low
are newspaper and Purina dog chowl along with wet dog food.
So those are the three big ones that we are
running very low on right now. Any pet supplies, any
type of monetary checks anything like that are also super helpful.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
You have any events going on this weekend.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
We're actually going to be in Dunbar at a back
to school event tomorrow. Meet and seth. We'll be there
if you want to stop by and say hi with
some adoptable puppies and hopefully some kittens.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
And where is that going to be in Dunbar?

Speaker 5 (08:27):
I you know I have have to look at that.
I'm not you haven't been.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
You haven't been told where to be yet? Is that
what you're saying?

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Yeah, yeah, I just know it is a Dunbar back
to school event.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
All right, Dunbar back to school event. We'll try to
see if we can find out something about that to
let people know where you're going to be tomorrow exactly
and what time will you be there? What's the time frame?

Speaker 5 (08:49):
So we'll be there from twelve to three, all.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Right, twelve to three somewhere in Dunbar tomorrow. We'll find
out where it is for you and you'll have different
pets available there.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
I take it, ram, yep, yes, we will different pets
available for adoption. If you can't adopt and just want
some puffy love, we're there for that too.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
And the weather's going to be great. I was talking
about that at the top of the show. I mean,
we've suffered with this heat and humidity and severe weather,
you know, it seems like every day, but things are
starting to look up. We're gonna have a really, really
nice weekend being a great opportunity for folks to come
out there and join you in Done Bar tomorrow. Talk
about the need as we always I like to talk
about this every week, talk about your need for fosters

(09:25):
and people just to come volunteer at the shelter.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
So it's number one. It helps with our animal stress levels.
That is a big thing, is to just get them out,
even for just today. And our friends at Ellen's Homemade
ice Cream have recognized that need and have started offering
free pub cups if you participate in our what we
call Borrow a Buddy program. It's literally just taking the

(09:50):
dog out for the day and you return them at
the end of the day. You can take them to Ellen's,
get a free pub cup, walk the bowl of art,
you know, whatever you want to do during the day
is pet friendly, and then you bring them back and
I'm telling you, the dogs never have had a nicer
sleep than when they come back from the Borrow Buddy
day trips.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
I love it.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
Yeah, just it really helps our pets and it also
helps our staff at the shelter promote them for adopters.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
And we're just you know, a couple of weeks away.
It's been on where you live from school starting, and
we will remind parents and grandparents and teachers and so
on and so forth that if those kids need community
service hours, because it's required to graduate in West Virginia schools,
you'd be glad to work with them on that.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (10:33):
I would absolutely love to help whoever achieve their community
service hours. Come see us for sure.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
All right, Hey, Angie, we'll look for you somewhere and
Dunbar tomorrow between noon and three. I appreciate you being
here and we'll talk next week because we want to
go full on throughout the week. We'll be promoting Kegs
for cane IDEs, which is happening next Saturday over the
Red Carpet Lounge. Appreciate you being here and we'll talk soon.
Thanks a lot.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
Sounds great, Have a good one.

Speaker 7 (10:58):
All right.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
It's Angie Gill from the Kenaw Charles Newman Association with
this week's adopt Me. Please put it the week again.
Kegs for Canines is happening next Saturday at the Red
Carpet Lounge. Will be over there. I hope to see
you there as well. Let's review all right. Midnight is
a two month old male cat. He's neutered, ready to
go home. He's already had one round of vaccinations, but

(11:19):
because of his age two months old, they can't do
the big one, the rabies vaccine, until he is three
months old, so you will have to take care of that.
And I've got his pictures always I do every week
posted on my social media. It's Dave Allen Radio on
Facebook or at Dave a seventy on x and he's
currently a resident of the Petco penhouses at the Petco
in Tays Valley there at Liberty Square, just off the exit.

(11:40):
If you're coming I sixty four, get off the Tay's
Valley exit, hang a ride. It's over in the applaza
there where Applebe's and Bob Evans and everything is next
to Aldie. So cruise on over there and take a
look at Midnight, beautiful beautiful cat. As I said, I've
kind of got a special place in my heart for
a black cat's name Midnight, because my wife and I
had a black cat named Midnight that we had to
have a down about it's almost I guess it's almost

(12:02):
two years or so now. But a beautiful cat. Take
a look at this picture over on Dave Island Radio
on Facebook and at Dave A seventy on x text
says Midnight looks like a baby. How old is He's
two months old? And it's his sibling still available for adoption.
Sad to think of them? Operator, I don't know, and
I don't know. I have to have to reach out
to Angie about that. They did come in. Astray said,

(12:24):
you can imagine how little they were when they came in.
He and a sibling. I'll find out if the other
one is available as well. Texas seen on different Facebook pages,
the increase of poor dogs and cats being dumped all
across the state. What's it going to take for this
to stop? I mean, I don't know how you fix it,
you know, and just let you know what just goes

(12:47):
on everywhere. I follow a lot of radio stations being
a radio geek all over the nation, and there's a
radio station that I'm aware of in Grundy, Virginia that
this morning when the morning guy got there to open
things up, was greeted with a box of kittens and
he's trying to give away kittens on the air. That
was at at one of the radio stations in the Grundy, Virginuary.

(13:11):

Speaker 10 (15:34):
I have not.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
The whole series is trolling Texas Republicans are pretty much
everything Texas stands for. It's outstanding, not to mention the
ladies are really easy on the eyes. Bravo Netflix, I
have I've not heard of that. But you're talking to
a guy that watches almost no television unless it's news,
unless it's some sort of a you know, rerunning of
Caddyshack or Animal House or The Blues Brothers, or of

(15:56):
course the NFL, which is back pre season last night,
The Charge and Detroit. I know it's preseason, but it's
still football, so I was watching some of that last night,
in addition to watching tvt Best Virginia, of course falling
to defeat. But what a great run, what a great
speaking to people that have had great runs, Jim Strown.

Speaker 11 (16:14):
Top of the Morning to you, Dave, how are you,
my friend?

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Fine, buddy? How's it going with you?

Speaker 11 (16:17):
I'm really, really, really good. I'm really good, probably the
best I've ever been. I was at the game last
night for TBT, and as you just said, great run.
We played five games. You give me this team next year,
and I think we're already thinking about it trying to
keep that team assembled. Coach West did a great job.
I was honored to be with them. I guess Wednesday
night we were able to feed the team at Fazio,

(16:39):
so I got the gnomes, sit down with them, and
I like their chemistry. I like them. You give me
this team next year. I think we'll make another deep run.
I'm a little I'm a little shocked in a way.
I thought we were gonna win it after we won
the other night. We're just as good as anybody in
the nation right now. So that was a lot of
fun to It's.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
One of those things that if you played let's say
two games instead of one, the best Virginia may have
won the next and then we would be waiting week.

Speaker 11 (17:01):
So we had a tough third quarter, just the shots
didn't go down.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
We had him.

Speaker 11 (17:04):
You know, that's the way it goes. The other team
obviously a very good, very skilled I kind of hope
they win it all now, but boy, we were right there,
proud of the best Virginia. Great run and the congratulations
Coach West and the entire team. It was Boy, it
was great for the coliseum, It was great for the city.
This town was fun.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Oh yeah. And look, if you're a basketball junkie, I
like basketball, but I'm a baseball football guy. But I
will say, if you're a basketball person, to have in
the heat of summer, when it's one hundred and eighty
eight degrees outside, to be able to be talking basketball
at the end of July into early August, that's pretty
cool stuff. I'm gonna ask you real quick. You mentioned
PHASEOS and then yeah, and of course, yeah, are things

(17:42):
going to PHASEOS right now?

Speaker 11 (17:43):
You know what it's it's still it's still numbing in
a way. And if you're not if you don't know
what we're talking about our good friend Doug scaff Junior,
tragically killed on June the tenth, and he had just
put together an investment group and we closed on that
May the twelfth, so he, you know, just a month

(18:06):
or so. But I talked to his father a lot.
I talked of the Synthday a lot. I'm going a
lot more than I did there For a few weeks,
I couldn't go in, Dave, I didn't go in, right,
I understood, and I'm going in now. And just so
you know, we're doing very, very well. The team is assembled,
The weight staff and servers are just impeccable with their service.

(18:30):
I'm hearing that the food is as good as it's
it's ever ever, ever, ever been. There's a good vibe
in the restaurant. It feels good to go in, and
people are coming in droves and really really enjoying it.
You know, dinner five to nine Tuesday through Saturday. We're
not overdoing it. We haven't expanded the hours just yet.

(18:54):
Doug's vision was to do that. I hope, I hope
we entertain his vision and do that. I hope we
do open on Sundays eventually and put a lounge in
like he wanted to do. But right now it's business
as usual and quite frankly, people are coming and they're
enjoying it. So thanks for asking.

Let's talk Live on levee, Season twenty one, week number
six of the Moses Outer Group Live on the Levee.
And just when you thought tonight might be the last
one day? Did you think tonight was the last one?

Speaker 3 (19:37):
Well, you know you hearing anything, you know, you know.

Speaker 11 (19:39):
I'm going to break it right now if you want
me to.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
Sorry, breaking breaking news, breaking news, what do you got?

Speaker 11 (19:44):
Yeah, the city now is yesterday. We've been working on this.
You know, we've had some rain outs this year. So
we're going to have a makeup live on the levee
three weeks from today Friday August to twenty second August
to twenty second, folks, circle your calendar. That will be
the final live on the levee. The car Arp and
Durance will play at six, and we're going to bring
back the Charlie West All Stars who did not get

(20:05):
a chance to play about a month ago because of
lightning all around us. Our buddy Joey Simonton got to
play and do the Phil Collins thing from six to seven,
and right at seven o'clock when he got done, lightning
struck and it kept coming. And much like a golf tournament,
every time there's lightning, you gotta wait at least thirty
minutes and it would not go away. So the Charlie
West All Stars did not get to play that night,

(20:26):
but we're going to welcome them back on August to
twenty second. So I'll be back. Unfortunately for you, I'll
be back in three weeks and we'll talk more about
that then. But tonight, all right, tonight you are going
to have me back.

Speaker 12 (20:39):
Right?

Speaker 3 (20:40):
Oh no, no, your contract is over. The contract is over.

Speaker 11 (20:42):
Oh by the way, welcome to August.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Right, yeah, here we are, August twenty twenty five.

Speaker 11 (20:46):
Acts like it's got to be somewhere soon, right, it's
going pretty quick. But tonight six o'clock it's a back
to school night, so we're catering to the children. Catering
to the kids. The city's done an amazing job assembling
a lot lot of cool things for the kids, fun games, resources, supplies, treats.
There might be some backpacks. I'm sure there'll be pens

(21:09):
and pencils and different notebooks and different things for the kids.
A lot of vendors will be down there. It should
be a pretty special night for the family. So moms
and dads, guardians, aunts, uncles, grandparents, bring your children down
and oh, by the way, while you're hanging out down there,
back to school and letting your kids go around to
all these vendors, there's going to be some really cool

(21:30):
music breaking out. About six o'clock. We have Sneezy. I
love the name Sneeze. I haven't seen them yet, but
I've listened to them a little bit. Sneezy will take
center stage right at six o'clock. They do a blend,
they do a little pop, they do a little reggae,
they do a little hip hop, they do a little rock,
and it all comes together with a really groovy vibe
and it's really fun. You dance a little bit to them.

(21:52):
I like to hear them. I haven't seen them live yet,
so they describe it as electrifying infusion. I can't wait
for Sneezy to take center stage. At six o'clock. We'll
do a little break. At seven, we'll thank our vendors,
will throw out some T shirts. East Coast t S
T shirts by the way, and then it's seven crap,
Yeah that.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Steve Z listening animal own an operator by Steve Animals.
I'm throwing that out.

Speaker 11 (22:16):
We love him, we love him, we love him, seven thirty.
I have welcomed them and introduced them to the Levee stage.
It might have been eight or nine, it could have
been ten years ago. But they're back and they're big.
They're they've gone national. Owner n a from the town
of They're awesome, I mean alternative rocko. So this is
their last local performance. They're hitting a national tour day

(22:39):
mid August. They're going national in about two weeks, so
this is the last chance to see Umnless. You want
to travel with them and be a groupie as they
head onto the highways and ways of America.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
Ahead, own ahead.

Speaker 11 (22:51):
They very nicely done, but you know they got this
alternative rock. They're really popular, they're a fan favorite, and
they're going to play for ninety minutes from seven thirty
until nine. We'll do the fifty to fifty drawing right
at nine for our five charities, So please support that
is volunteers walk around selling fifty to fifty tickets. But yeah,
come down on the weather day. It might be the

(23:13):
best one we've had. I'm gonna get I might say
three years, because last year was pretty warm. This year
has been a little muggy and hot and then rainy
and then so tonight, I think seventy eight pay humidity,
I think a little breeze, and again picture perfect evening
to bring the entire family down. One hundred and four
and four, bring the kids down. We're really rolling out

(23:35):
the red carpet for the kidd oh's. The city's done
a great job. The mayor wanted to do this two
or three years ago, and it's been growing ever since.
We did the back to school night. So whether your
student's going to college or preschool, there's gonna be something
down there down Therefore, you stop down, get your bite,
enjoy the food vendors, enjoy all the back to school vendors,
get your spirit of beverage, stay hydrated, lots of pop,

(23:57):
lots of waters down there, whatever you'd like. It's I'm
looking forward to tonight. And just when you thought it
was the last one, I'll be back in three weeks,
three weeks and we'll have one more live on Levy.
But folks, get down there tonight. It's gonna be nice.
It's also the forty fifth anniversary kind of the reunion
for the Charleston High group. There's gonna be lots of
Charleston High Mountain around tonight.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (24:18):
Jimmy small Ridge and his committee put this thing together,
so there's gonna be a lot of of my age
people there. Although my high school union, my forty fifth,
was two years ago. So these folks graduated ton eighty
from Charleston High. There'll be a lot of Charleston High
Mountain lines running around. So we welcome them back to town,
back to your hometown. If you're visiting and listening to this,
we'll see you tonight down there, and we'll see you

(24:39):
tonight down there. Just come down and listen to some
really great music. Sneezy and then Owner you've heard Owner.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
You yeah know, IVMC a couple of events, right. I
thought you knew them.

Speaker 7 (24:49):
Yeah, yeah, you know sneezy.

Speaker 3 (24:50):
I don't know.

Speaker 11 (24:52):
I just listened to them because I I wanted to
see what they said.

Speaker 6 (24:55):
No.

Speaker 11 (24:55):
There they bring a cool vibe.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
It'll be fun soul FORUL.

Speaker 11 (24:58):
I like it.

Speaker 3 (24:59):
It'll be I mean it just kind of all the
music that we have down there, whether it's country rock,
whatever's good. But there's just something about that kind of music.
And I haven't heard him with the way you're describing
on a night like tonight, when it's gonna be picture perfect,
maybe drinking hand, soft drinking hand, whatever the case may be.
Just out there, water coming, you know, the wind coming
off the water. I mean, we've earned this with this.

(25:19):
That's a great way to say that we've had with
heat indexes heat ind of seas. That makes you sound
important when you say hint heat indeceased. Heat indosees have
been like well over one hundred, and it seems like
it's one shower and thunderstorm after the other, hail storms
and I don't know, locus petulants, whatever. We've had all
these different things and we're going this is our just reward.
We're gonna have a nice night to night. But the

(25:41):
big story coming out of this again, it ain't over, right,
it ain't over until Jimmy strawn.

Speaker 11 (25:47):
Sings Yes, No, we have we had one more. We're
gonna yeah. I can't wait for the Charlie West All Stars.
We talked about him before. I mean Tony's that. You know,
Tony's got a little something to do with that. Shayla
Leffis will be on stage, and you know there's like
ten leven Charleston All Star, Charlie West Ollstars. They're all Stars,
and they've really been working all our summer. So I'm
glad we're giving them an opportunity. I'm glad the city
did this. I'm grateful to the city, and I know

(26:10):
the sponsors and the vendors are as well. And I
look forward to the twenty second, but quite frankly, I
look forward to the night.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
I've got a couple of questions here for you, okay.
One says, or the fifty to fifty tickets cash only
to buy because I always forget to stop at the ATM.

Speaker 11 (26:24):
They are it's a cash it's cash on hand, it's
cash on hand. But so stee, I stop at the
ATM there's one right across the street at four points
by Sharon. And you know, spend the dollars, spend five,
spend ten, you spend twenty bucks. You get a pretty
big arm length. And we do that drawing right at
nine o'clock now, right as the last note is over.
And again this is so nice. I don't think I've
said on this segment, but the last twenty plus seasons

(26:47):
we've raised about one hundred and twenty seven thousand dollars
for our CCR Covenant House, Sojourner, shelter Man and Meal
and KVC Collective. So that, folks, thank you so much
for your kindness and generosity. That's that's a lot of
money and it helps all the inner city organizations that
help people might need a BikeE eat and maybe a

(27:09):
place to lay their head at night.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
So thank you.

Speaker 11 (27:13):
I just love that we do this. This was Tom
Lane's vision twenty two years ago. Great fun for a
great cause. It's been the same tagline for twenty two years.
So thanks for that question.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Got another text here for you. This has nothing to
do with Live on the Levee, but we were talking
about the TVT do either of you know what the
everline player who made the winning shot shouted at the
crowd after that looked like he was running his trap
at our people. I saw it on television after, you know,
the e lamnding, and I saw the player and he
was walking and he was running around, and he was
kind of and I'm doing this on radio, kind of

(27:44):
making the gesture like, you know, like to show me
the money kind of thing.

Speaker 7 (27:48):
You know.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
I didn't think a whole lot about it. Well, but
I wasn't there.

Speaker 11 (27:52):
They're young players playing for a million dollars, one million dollars,
and of course their share is going to be sixty
to eighty thousand. That's a lot of money when you're
twenty two, twenty three, twenty four. I hope he was excited,
and whenever an away team beats like the home crowd
we had, we had some pretty we had some pretty
nice electricity in the coliseum last night, and I'm sure

(28:12):
it was just it's a big win for him. He
hit a big three. As soon as the bucket went in.

Speaker 3 (28:18):
I walked out. I walked out.

Speaker 11 (28:20):
I don't want to see them celebrating on my own court.
So I didn't see his actions, but I did watch
the game. There was a lot of jawing during the game.
It's both sides. Yeah, so that's that's normal. So if
you if you, if you don't like that, you're not
a true fan of the game, because that's just the
game of it.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Par It's just the game. Yeah, all right, Jim, We'll
see you tonight live on the levee.

Speaker 11 (28:39):
Thank you, Bud, I see you see six o'clock, sneezy,
seven thirty on. Come down, enjoy, get your bite, get
your drink, enjoy, Say hi to me and we'll see tonight.

bailiff with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department accused of sexually
assaulting a female inmate at the Judicial Building. His name
is cast Close, fifty four and he's from quick. He

(36:14):
was arraigned yesterday morning on the charges of imposition of
sexual acts on persons incarcerated, detained or under supervision. Sheriff
Joe Crawford said the Close was fired and then arrested
by state police. State police will be the ones handling
the investigation, although there will be an internal investigation by
the Sheriff's department as well. The alleged events happening on Tuesday,
the victims saying the assault happened while she was waiting

(36:37):
for a court hearing. She says the bailiff made sexual
comments to her and took her into a holding cell
in his office, and that he forced her to perform
sexual acts. He's also accused of photographing the thing. Sheriff Crawford,
Kanana County Commissioned President of Vensulango, Prosecutor Deb Brusnick, Jim Mitchell,

there yesterday and closely is locked away currently at South Central.

(37:00):
His bond set at one hundred thousand dollars. And when
the folks can talk about that. Of course, we've reached
out to all those folks I mentioned earlier, and obviously
they're being pretty tight lipped about it right now. They
can't speak about it, which is completely understandable. We'll have
that information once it becomes available and when we could
talk about it. The Dave Island Show on five eighty

Speaker 16 (37:28):
All right, I'm sorry, i'm'll running it a little late.
How are you doing this?

Speaker 3 (37:31):
I'm doing fine. Man. The show's saying, Look, if I
TJ's in a studio with us right now, if I
have to tell Meadows and Wilson there's no talk line today,
I'll give you your opportunity. Okay, thanks, hey man, everything good.

Speaker 16 (37:44):
Everything's all right.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
I got to ask you last time that we had
you'd studio, you were on Metro News midday and you
had a couple of your lovely family members in here
with you. Have they everybody had a good summer?

Speaker 16 (37:53):
Yeah, they've had a great summer. We've been to Louisiana
a couple of times. The girls are going back this
next week, so you know, schools about to start so summer.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
Are they all excited about school?

Speaker 12 (38:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (38:04):
They are, you know, get back with their friends and
everything like that.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
Get away from parents. Yes. Are you okay with them
going back to school? For sure?

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (38:11):
Absolutely, it's time to go back. Get all right. Speaking
of Witcher's a couple of things I want to talk
to you about. The sales tax holiday kicks off today.
Uh and this is in I think it's in code,
and the governor, of course, may make it a pretty big
deal about it. TJ writes about his commentary today. Here's
overall thoughts of the sales tax holiday.

Speaker 16 (38:29):
It's a good I mean, I wish it could be
a little bit longer to give parents and families a
little bit more time to get out there and get
the supplies and everything in the Uh. I want to
thank Delegate Minority Leader Sean Hornbuckle for uh in the
late Duck scaff for getting that codified through an amendment. So, yeah,
it's a great thing.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Yeah, and it's kicks off I think today. I believe so.

Speaker 16 (38:51):
And specifically I know there's like a liminal clothes and uh,
electronics and school supplies and different things of that nature.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (38:58):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Can we're talking with Delegate Hog this past weekend. I
think it was you were part of a big dedication
here in Kodolva. Telling me about this dedication and about
the guy that was honored.

Speaker 16 (39:08):
Well, we had a bridge naming ceremonies. Resident House Resolution
thirty one, myself and Delegate Hall Walter Hall sponsored from
Saint Albans And you know, it was to honor Colonel
Q as he was affectionately known. He was a Vietnam
War veteran. I think he did two tours over there,
Purple Heart, numerous other awards. He came to West Virginia

(39:29):
by way of Florida to teach at the ROTC program
at West Virginia State University. And if you know anything
about the ROTC program at West Virginia State University, it's historic.
A lot of generals and high ranking personnel have come
out of there. And in addition, he worked specifically with
juveniles in the community, worked with West Virginia State football team,

(39:51):
was our chaplain and photographer, manager, coach, all those different things.
And it's just a community guide all levels. A person
who really strived to bring people together.

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Yeah and uh. And I got opportunity to know him
a couple of years ago through some things he did
with Rotary Club.

Speaker 2 (40:04):
Yep.

Speaker 11 (40:05):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
And I had a chance to when I was in Rotary,
I had a chance to visit he was very involved
in that. I had a chance to visit their chapter,
which I think he was in the St. Albans chapter
met him through actually through Delicate Wall Hall. Yeah, as
you mentioned, he was a great He's a great gentleman.

Speaker 16 (40:20):
Very very very good gentleman. Like I said, he was
a mentor to our youth. He was on the West
Virginia State Parole war He worked in juvenile services at
the state level.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
I mean, what didn't he do thing?

Speaker 16 (40:29):
What didn't he do? But I think his heart was
really for kids. He even coached Pop Warner team won
a national championship there. So it was he was really
just an overall great person and anybody who knew him,
like I said, he was a father and uncle, brother,
a mentor. He was that affectionate, you know, once you
got to know him.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Talk about the importance of when we have these because sometimes,
you know, you dedicate a bridge or a building to somebody,
and after a while you have the big ceremony and
you cut the ribbon and everybody has cake and everything,
and then they and then and then it just becomes
we're okay, well we just drive across this bridge, or
we just are we just drive down this this street
or whatever. Talk about the importance of letting people know

(41:12):
no matter who it is, why this man or woman
was important to the community.

Speaker 16 (41:16):
Well, I think his daughter stated it best that you know,
small act of kindness and services can lead up to,
you know, what what happened last week. As far as
the bridge naming ceremony, and you know, I think it's
also important to that we honor those who fought for
our country, you know, like I said, he was a

(41:36):
Vietnam War vet, did multiple tours, purple hearts, all these
different honors, so I think that was permanent. And in addition,
even in his death, within this bridge naming ceremony, we
see so much political strife. Where we had two individuals
from you know, different sides of the hour, we're able
to come together and actually do this. So I think

(41:57):
that far as just being a display, was actually great.

Speaker 3 (42:00):
And I like that. And Walt Hall is a good
friend of mine, has been for years. He's been on
the show numerous times. I know he's also a good
friend of yours. And I love that because in the
in the news headlines, you know, we always hear about
the strife, as you said, and the beef and so on.
So and it happens nationwide, it happens you're locally too,
But the fact that two individuals came together and it's
not about politics, it's about honoring a great.

Speaker 16 (42:21):
Man exactly, And I think that, you know, and again
I just haven't seen too much of that, you know,
whether it's locally or nationally. So I think that was
just on its face, just very good for this the
public to see that, hey man, we're gonna come together,
and the individual, a citizen who, like I said, worked
it in the community at all levels even in his death,

(42:42):
was able to do this.

Speaker 3 (42:42):

Speaker 16 (43:05):
I think that's kind of been short of the on
the tip of everybody's tongue and everybody's wondering about that.
So I thought that what maybe happen sort of midsummer,
So we'll see if that's something that's going to be
happening as far as going back into the school, so
we can address some things that are looming far as
pi A and obviously what's going to happen with medicaid.
So we got some issues that need to be worked out.

(43:27):
That's probably is going to take a little bit longer
than a regular session.

Speaker 3 (43:30):
Yeah, and the thing about the special sessions, I mean,
you don't and we talked about this on the Shaw
on Metro Is Midday yesterday. You don't just go in
and say, okay, we're going to fix this. You got
to have a game plan because you don't want to
waste taxpayer's money exactly.

Speaker 16 (43:42):
And I think, like I said, we have a lot
of things, you know, whether it's like I said, PIA, medicaid,
flood resiliency, it's a lot of things that need to
be hammered out and you know, get those plans developing.

is back today, Jeff Jenkins. Of course, we'll get us

(46:52):
caught up on the news. Today's National Donor Day and
we're going to get into that a little bit. You
may have heard me talking about this on the show
earlier this week, the number of people that are millionaires
now in America. John Burdette, who you hear every Monday
on retire Right Radio, is going to join me to
talk about that political commentator Mark Curtis. He retired from

(47:15):
WWK and the next to our family of stations and
Inside West Virginia Politics, but worst retirement ever because he
still writes a weekly political column, generally speaking on national issues,
but he keeps an eye on what's going on in
West Virginia even though he doesn't live here anymore. He's
soaking up the raised in Florida right now. Well deserved retirement,
but he still writes his column and he joins us

(47:36):
every Friday at one forty five, so we'll check in
with him. Also, every Friday, we introduce you to another
great eatery around the state of West Virginia, and we
do this every week, and we're going to the Eastern
Panhandle for this one today. I understand I didn't set
this one up. Somebody nominated, which is that's what we want.

(47:57):
We wants people to tell us where we need e.
By the way, that email address for that show is
Midday at wv Metronews dot com, so we'll go there.
Of course, Open Line West Virginia coming up as well.
It's all on Mentro News Midday powered by Selangel Law
with thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Manda Baron and
Me coming up at noon today on this show. On Monday,
the local show, Charleston Mayor Amy Schuler Goodwin will join us.
G Money from our sister station one O seven three

(48:20):
The Beats will join us to talk about the upcoming
Salvation Army golf tournament and about the Beats backpack Attack
which is happening on our parking lot here next Wednesday,
eleven eleven Virginia Street East in Charleston. It's the I
think the eighteenth annual backpack Attack lineup is at three
next Wednesday. We'll start handing them out at four o'clock.
So it's kind of the brain child of Woody Woods

(48:41):
and G Money. GM Money will join us on the
show to talk about it. Coming up on Monday, Texas
David's Fun Friday, and it's hilarious watching Trump's caddy move
his ball to a better spot. Because Trump is such
a terrible golfer. It seems like a metaphor for what
the GOP is doing for Trump, carrying his weight and
helping him succeed as he falls because or fails rather

(49:02):
because of an aptitude. I just you know, we have
a TV in the studio and it's kind of on
just in case there's breaking news or whatever. And I
just happened to glance up at the TV as I
was beginning the show, and President Trump was having a
press conference, And again obviously it's on mute, so I
don't know exactly what they were talking about. But Triple
H was at the sports entertainer. You know that, I

(49:25):
didn't call him a wrestler, the sports entertainer from WWE,
and I guess he's like the president of the company
now was there with him, and I don't know exactly
what they were talking about, but we had Triple H
with him. Deck said, did everyone see that Paton McAfee
wants College Game Day in Morgantown for the backyard Brawl
this season? Even country star Luke Comb sees that. In

(49:45):
a video Barstools Sports posted on x ask which rivalry
is the most underrated in college football? Combs said to me,
it's the backyard Brawl West Virginia and Pitt. I know
that people that are in the West Virginia pit rivalry
are gonna be like, how that underrated? I think it's
entirely in the country. Super underrated rivalry, says a texture

(50:06):
the complaints, says texture was about billionaires, not millionaires. No,
I was referring to appreciate the text. I was referring
to a article that came out reported by the Associated
Press this week that more and more people are becoming
millionaires in America and the biggest segment of those are
forty and under. So those who say, well, it's different,
young people can't do well, not necessarily, it's forty and under.

(50:28):
It's the fastest growing class of millionaires, not billionaires. One
in ten people in America are millionaires now. And again
that doesn't mean necessarily just money in the bank, all right.
So TJ. Meadows joins us now, who's always always ready
to talk about money and things like that. Why we
got to be hating on people for doing well, having
a good number, Because there's a war on success in

(50:50):
this country and there has been.

Speaker 2 (50:51):
For some time.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
So I will say this.

Speaker 10 (50:52):
You know, I was born in nineteen eighty. A million
bucks in nineteen eighty is far different from a million
dollars today. Indeed, you need about four point one five
million dollars based on inflation to have the same buying power.
With that said, having a million dollar net worth even
today you're in pretty good shape relatively speaking compared to
the rest of America, and you can do it. It's

(51:15):
like looking at the guy or gal who go to
the gym all the time. Oh man, you know, I
hate that guy, Bubble.

Speaker 3 (51:21):
They're willing to put in the work. That's the way
they That's why they looked at as people like me
set there with a quarter pound are going. Man, I
can't stand that guy.

Speaker 14 (51:27):
I know.

Speaker 10 (51:28):
So you know what it's it's not too difficult find
a job you're good at. Most people are work hard,
live below your means. It's not that hard to do
if you're willing to do it. Most people aren't willing
to put in the work. Well, then stop, I don't
complaining complaining because I be glad you got some of
those people, because if you didn't imagine the mess we
would be in with Social Security and everything else. Look America,

(51:49):
the baby boomers, they are entirely unready for retirement. People
can't take care of themselves. That's why we have all
these entitlement programs. Suck it up, Buttercup.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
Wow, all right, all right, Well, Bernie Sanders is gonna
come to West Virginia. He's coming to Wheeling, Charleston and
Lenore in Mingo County. Move go ahead and say this
right now. He's not going to get a warm reception
when he goes to Mingo County. I'm just telling you
the Trump boys and the girls are going to be
out there. Give me fifteen twenty seconds. What's on the
big show today?

Speaker 10 (52:18):
Eric Nelson kicks us off revenue numbers first month of
the fiscal year. Out Chris steyer Wald at eleven o'clock
eleven thirty at Steam Release.

Speaker 3 (52:26):
Baby, I might get into rich Rod too. He says
we're soft, and he's right. He's absolutely right. I reposted
what he said on my social media. We are soft,
says the guy that eats a quarter pound. All right,
all right, I'll see you later today. I'll Metro News
Midday with Amanda Baron, thirteen News to NightLive anchor Vanda
Baron and me coming up at noon. Until then, have
fun and love somebody.

Speaker 2 (52:58):
Sea. Yeah, give you two d r F M Charlestown,
W two A three HQ Cross Lanes at WVRC Media Station.
We're proud to live here too.
