Let's check in whether good friend, Angie, Gil and Water
from the Ganal Charleston Humane Association with this week's Adopt
Me Please Pet of the Week, Angie. Good morning, Happy Friday,

(03:06):
Welcome to the show.

Speaker 7 (03:07):
Good morning and happy Friday all you guys now.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
As always, our pets picture posted on Dave Allen Radio
on Facebook and also on the WCCHS Network Facebook page
and dave A at Dave A seventy on exits at
Dave A seventy on X tell us about Tiny Dancer.
That is our dog this week, and we have featured
her before?

Speaker 7 (03:29):
Oh we have? I did not know that we had
featured Tiny Dancer already show.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Did I misread your text? I'm sorry?

Speaker 7 (03:36):
We actually featured her brother Crocodile.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
I got you, okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I
must have. I must have misread your text. I apologize
for that.

Speaker 7 (03:45):
But even if we have featured her before, you know what,
I really hope she gets adopted. She's gonna be my
current favorite at the shelter right now. She is about
nine months old and about thirty to forty pounds, so
kind of on the smaller side, great with other dogs,
loves to go to our play groups, and great with kids.
She's already stayed and upgrade on all our vaccine, so

(04:08):
if you do an adopt her, she gets to go
home immediately with you. And the only downside to Tiny
Dancer is she is what we call an escape artist.
She does love to jump fences, so she will need
to be monitored if you're outside or on a leash
if you don't have a fence, because she is the
type that will hit the.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Ground running or hit the ground jumping, as the case
may be. Yeah, yeah, and so I will go and
throw this out there. You know you need to know
that going in. But I mean it's not saying that
she can't be worked with because she's still so very
very young. But if you're going to consider adopting this
dog and think, well, I'll just leave her chained up,
then don't do it.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Just don't do it, Yes.

Speaker 7 (04:50):
Please do not do that. We can offer a lot
of resources for you as far as training goes to
encourage her not to be a fence jumper and not
that you know, tie out and as an air quotes,
chaining the dog up is not you know, it's not
necessarily a bad thing for a small periods of time
while you're working on training her. One of my dogs

(05:11):
has a tie out while we work on training. But
her living on a tie out is not what we're looking.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
No, no, it's never what you're looking for in any case.
But that's a good point that you brought about the training.
But if you're going to get a dog and you're
going to leave them chained up, then don't get a dog,
get a fish. That's my opinion. We'll get back to
a tiny dancer here momentarily. Again, we're talking to Angie
Gillan Water from the Canala Charleston Umane Association. Your numbers
are quite high, Angie, And according to your social media

(05:38):
that I check out before the show, I did it
earlier this morning, you're looking at something like four hundred
and thirteen animals up there? Is that, right?

Speaker 7 (05:46):
Yes? And what's crazy is four hundred and thirteen. I'm
glad we're in the four hundreds at this point, right,
I'm glad we're out of the five hundreds. Four hundred
and thirteen is still a lot to be taken care of.
I'm glad we are away from the five hundred exactly.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
And I say that because we want to bring up
that you folks are in need of a lot of
different things, but primarily food is what you're looking for now, right.

Speaker 7 (06:10):
Yes, yesterday we have found out we were close to
cracking open the last bags of Purina dog Chowl and
we did use our last bag of Purina kitt and
Chow yesterday. So food is a big need for us,
as well as down dishwashing liquid. We're completely out of
that as well, and that is very important for us
to have to be able to wash dishes each day.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
All right. So again, you know, we do the segment
every Friday, and I get people all the time to say, man,
I love listening to you and Aerngie on the radio,
and I wish I could adopt a dog, but I
live in a small place. I've got other dogs I can't.
There are ways you can help out the Canal Charleston
Humane Association in the shelter without actually adopting a pet,
and this is one of those.

Speaker 7 (06:51):
Absolutely. Donating supplies that we need is a big way
to help us. Or you can stop by the shelter
and volunteer or borrow a buddy for the day. If
you don't know what borrow he is, you quite literally
can just borrow one of our dogs, takes them on
a super fun day and then bring them back before
we could.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
And this would be a great weekend to do that
because the weather is actually going to be really, really
nice this weekend, and I was looking ahead, Angie at
the next week. It's almost going to feel like fall, sunshine,
temperatures in below seventies pretty much every day next week.
It would be a great time because it's been just
so hot this summer. It would be a great time
for somebody to go and borrow buddies, you say, take

(07:26):
them for a walk, take them to one of the
dog parks, take them, you know, out on the boulevard,
and he don't have to worry about burning their their
their pads on the on the ground or anything. Be
a great time to do that.

Speaker 7 (07:36):
Absolutely. We actually had one of our long term residents, Bongo,
he went to a borrow a buddy yesterday and he
was simply taken because he likes to play in the
water and he likes pools. Someone actually came and got
him because she has an end ground pool and wanted
him to have fun swimming for the day.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
So it's as simple as a I love it, I
love it.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
You did.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Somebody just said I need I need a water dog
for the day, and then they went and got the bongo.

you were talking about some of the things that you

(08:17):
needed Antie as far as donations go, and you did
mention Dawn dishwashing liquid. Had somebody asked me one time,
why is it brand specific? But there's a reason for that. Explain.

Speaker 7 (08:26):
Oh uh, We actually we're not too picky about brands
when it comes with the dishwashing liquids specifically. Now with
our foods we are, but things like dishwashing legs that
we are not tacky out. Okay, Yeah, people just recognize
Dawn really popular.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
Yeah, it's it's kind of like saying band aid, which
is actually a brand name, you know, or crayon or
something like that. Okray olda Okay, I got you because
here's the reason I say that is because somebody had
asked me at one point, and I know there are
certain things like that that you want specific brands for
one reason or another, and I thought maybe with don
it may be because it was just better, you know,

(09:06):
for cleaning purposes or whatever, something in the chemicals or whatever.
But but you'll pretty much take what take what you
can get. Are you as specific on the on the
brands of animal food that you ask for?

Speaker 7 (09:18):
Yes, So we feed everyone on a Purina diet number one,
just because it is like the most affordable food out
there for us to maintain in bulk. And then also
we feed everyone the same food just that way. If
someone has, you know, tummy issues, we know that it's
probably food related because we're feeding everyone the same thing good.

(09:39):
So then we can you know, explore other options with that.
And then as far as the cast goes, same thing,
pretty specific on food with that, just to keep an
eye out for tommy issues and we know it's not
food related or it is food related with that, So
that is why we are specific with that. If you
do donate brands that are not Purina brand foods, we

(10:00):
still have a great use for those. We actually have
a public food pantry for pets in the community that
need fed so they don't have to come into the
shelter system, so we use other brands for that.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
That's something we haven't spent a lot of time talking
about and what we may explore that in the future
segment is that food pantry that you have. Got a
couple of questions here for you. Via the text line,
somebody said, for Angie, has anyone brought in the kitten
that was thrown from the bridge last week? Just wanted
to see if he or she's okay emotionally. I hope
someone or someone had a camera got the license of

(10:34):
that white suv that did that to this sweet thing.
Time to start arresting these pieces of human fecal matter
for this evil are you Are you familiar with that story, Angie?

Speaker 7 (10:43):
I am familiar with the story, and we I mean
I prepared our whole team. I saw it on Facebook
and I was like, we've got a kitten that was
thrown off a bridge, like, get medical ready, to get
our cat team ready, get everyone ready. And the kitten
never came in, So I'm assuming that maybe the finder
had taken it to a vet. It was fine and
they found a new home for it. That is best

(11:05):
case scenario and what I'm assuming that had happened. But
we have not gotten that kitt and yet. If we do,
I'll definitely be sure to update.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
All right, Another question that person says, I'm asking if
one of the portable classrooms could be used to help
with shelter overflow. Its not just Gnaw, but all over
the states. Please consider that idea. The portable classrooms maybe
that aren't being used anymore, something like that.

Speaker 7 (11:27):
Oh, that is a great idea. I'll definitely take that
to the higher ups that aren't me and see if
that is something that could be used. Because the adult dogs,
as far as spacing goes, is what we've been struggling with.
And when I tell you, there's not a single kennel
open ever, as soon as one does open up, another
dog is there to take it to spot. So that

(11:49):
is something that I will definitely share with our team
and we'll look into.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
And you know, Angel, We've got our WVRC Media Cares
for Kids radiothon going on right now. Started yesterday, It's
going to wrap up to day raising money for WVU
Children's WU Medicine Children's and somebody sent a text They've
been listening to that and they asked they and do
hospitals like WVU Children's or maybe c AMC ever adopt

(12:14):
a mascot or therapy pets for patient comforts, especially for
kids and the elderly.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
So I have not seen a hospital do that in
our area yet. But Metro nine one one actually adopted
a dog from us that lives up there. His name
is Pep. He you know, just kind of offers support
and love to the workers up there that need it,
so he is up there. And then we also have

(12:43):
a contract worked out with Edgewood Summit where we take
puppies to them or kittens to them and visit once
a month. So that is kind of answering that question.
But I've not seen any hospital or anything like that
do that in the area quite yet.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
All right, before we let you go, what else you
got going on you guys out and about anywhere this
weekend or any other activities you need to tell us about.

Speaker 7 (13:04):
So we do have a special going on this weekend.
Any dog that's over the age of four months old,
you get to pick your price as long as it's
a dollar or more. You get to pick your price
on their adoption tee and we will actually be at
Ellen's ice Cream tomorrow from one to three with adoptable
puppies and kittens and hoping to fund them homes as

(13:24):
well at Ellen.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
All right, Ellen's Downtown, all right, and you appreciate it
and we will talk again soon. Thanks a lot.

Speaker 6 (13:31):
Down's great, have a good one you as well.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Nine to twenty and again are adopt me? Please put
up the week picture posted on Dave Allen Radio on
Facebook and at Dave A seventy and x. Also on
the WCCHS Network page as well. It's a Tiny Dancer
and a Tiny Dancer is nine months old, fully vaccinated
and spade great with kids. The only drawback to Tiny
Dancer is that maybe Tiny Dancer's name should be Tiny

(13:55):
Jumper because she does like to jump and so she
just needs to be worked with. She's relatively young, so
and she's kind of an escape artist. But somebody could
definitely come into work with its beautiful dog. To check
out the picture, get in touch with the folks at
the GNAWE Charles Newman Association. Let's get this week's pet adopted.

Hope right, yeah, exactly exactly. So it ain't over till
it's over. And brother, we got one more.

Speaker 10 (17:05):
I'm so excited. Yeah, we had a little rain this
summer and we got one of them lightning and rained out.
So the city said, you know what we gotta do.
We gotta do one more kind of a I don't
know what you call it, a little what do you
call them when they come back on the Encore? Yeah,
you have an Encore performer tonight. So yeah, August and

(17:26):
twenty second season twenty one. The Moses Otter Group Live
Levy will come to an official end tonight at six
o'clock down at Hadad Riverfrump Park. Our good friends, we've
known them forever. They're West Virginia Legends or Canal Valley
and they're just Charlestonians that everybody loves. The Carpenter ants
will take center stage at the show and bomb stage

(17:48):
and you know they got that toe tap and Appalachian rock, gospel, eclectic,
write their own stuff, do some covers. They're just great
with Michael and Mark and the guys. And they'll play
for sixty straight minutes. They'll get the audience warmed up,
and then we'll do a little break. We'll thank our sponsors,
we'll let you get a bite to eat, we'll let

(18:10):
you get a spirited beverage or of water or soda,
whatever you'd like down there, enjoy the nice breeze off
of the majestic Canala River. It's going to be a
picture perfect evening weatherwise. We're going to start out about
eighty five and we're gonna go to the mid seventies,
maybe seventy three, and then at seven.

Speaker 11 (18:28):
Thirty pm tonight.

Speaker 10 (18:30):
They didn't get a chance to do it a month ago.
I know, we talked to Shila and Brandy on the
show about a month ago. But we're bringing back the
Charlie West All Stars. This is the group that's been
together for about ten years, and it's just that it's
the Charleston's best of the best. It's Canall Valley's best
of the best. It's the best vocalist, the best guitarist,

(18:50):
the best drummers, the best bass. I mean, we're bringing
back about ten twelve people. They all have their own
specialty and they're gonna do ninety minutes of raw different
genres and folk and country, and Shayla's going to be,
you know, the lead vocalists, along with Brandy Odell. But
it's going to be a picture perfect evening in my mind.

(19:11):
I look forward to hosting it as I finish up
my twentieth season of Live on the Levee. Kudos to
the City of Charleston, City Hall, the mayor, her team,
Thanks to all the great, great sponsors, and thank thank
all the listeners who've been coming down. It's been a
great summer. We've enjoyed the music. Come down one more time,

(19:31):
you got one more opportunity. The summer's not over until
the Fat Lady's singing. And she hasn't done yet, and
she's and she's not really the Fat Lady's not singing
to night Shay this singing tonight by the way, clear no,
but everybody understand it's not over yet and it'll be
over the night. So you have one more opportunity to

(19:52):
come down and enjoy the levee and enjoy your fellowship
with your friends and ensure the enjoy the river and
enjoy the weather and everything to Charleston offers and I
just want to say, hey, thanks to the City of
Charlson for affording me the opportunity to serve as the
MC for twenty years, and thank you to the WBrC
radio family for helping us support this tonight. I think

(20:12):
your sister station is going to be down there tonight.
Are good friend Steven Jinny with the B one hundred.

Speaker 11 (20:17):
You guys have been down there.

Speaker 10 (20:18):
We've had a we've had a great run and all
the media partners have been great.

Speaker 11 (20:22):
I just want to.

Speaker 4 (20:22):
Say thanks Dave Todave Iland Showing five any Live is
brought to you part by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest
injury law firm. So let's talk about the season overall.
I mean, uh, you know, we we did have the
one I think it was just one that was canceled
or postponed, is that right?

Speaker 10 (20:36):
Yeah, well we got we had a couple that were tricky.
We got one opener in and then at lightning and
one that we didn't make it all. So it was
a little hectic, but we got you know, we're going
to get them all in and and all. This year
was six and we went with you know, the quality
this year. You know, we mixed in some levees with
the cycling, which was a big night. You know, we

(20:58):
didn't do the levees to the REGDA of course because
that was so huge, but we had we had a
lot of mini regd is down there on Friday nights.
I think they were great. We even had a Thursday
night one one one uh Thursday because of the car
show that came through town. So the city did some
different things. But it's still it's still when I think
about it, it's still live music, no charge for you

(21:20):
to come down. It's still delicious food, it's still affordable beverages.
It's still just the fellowship, the happiness, the joy. As
I always say day, my favorite thing is standing on
that stage and I'm trying to find people that are
not having a good time or smiling on their face,
and I never can. So it still is what it
was intended to do. It's great fun for a great cause.

(21:43):
We helped those five inner city charities. So I think
it was a good summer. I'm already talking with the
city about next summer. We'll see what happens next summer.
I know we're doing it next summer. I know the
city's involved with discussions right now how it's gonna look.
But I know the vendors want to come back, and
I know the patrons want to come down and enjoy
their music. So I think it's going to continue.

Speaker 4 (22:04):
Well, it's a summertime tradition, you know, and you come
on to talk about it, and you know it's undergone.
Like everything else in life, Jimmy, you know, sometimes it
has to undergo some changes here or there, but overall
it's been a success. In the bottom line is it's
about providing people fun, It's about providing the musicians and opportunity.
But it's also about raising money for those five inner

(22:25):
city charities that you talked about.

Speaker 10 (22:26):
Yeah, we've raised one hundred and twenty seven thousand dollars
the last twenty one seasons for those five inner city
charities and help you we need a bit to eat,
the place to lay their head.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
At night, and the one and go ahead. I'm sorry
to go ahead. Well, I was just going to say,
the weather is going to be great tonight.

Speaker 10 (22:45):
Have you seen it?

Speaker 4 (22:45):
Oh yeah, it looks it looks good.

Speaker 10 (22:47):
I start out warm, but it's going to go down
to the mid seventies and I think the humidity will
be low. As a matter of fact, here's how I
know the weather's going to be fine. My mom's walking
over from where she lives on Choyer Streets. That's the
barometer right there. So all you need to know my
mother's walking over. She's eighty nine. If my mom can
walk to the levee, folks, you can come to the
levee tonight.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
So what are we going to get into next? I mean,
after this, what's the next big project for us?

Speaker 10 (23:11):
Jimmy, Well, I'll go ahead and put a bug in
your ear and I'll be in soon to talk about it.
But September twentieth or twenty first, it's a big weekend
in Charleston. I know there will be other things before that,
like the Charleston Distance Run and some football games in
high school football, but a couple of fundraising events. I
just want to mention that I'll be in to talk
about him. But on September twentieth, on a Saturday, it's

(23:32):
called Mountaineers Night Out. It's gonna be at the Red
Carpet Pavilion. It's gonna be for men and women, and
it's gonna be just that a Mountaineer tailgate party watching
the Mountaineers take on Kansas when they're out there playing
the Jayhawks in Kansas, and we're gonna just watch the game,
have a tailgate party, but we're gonna be raising money
for the kids with cancer. The Westernian Kids Crusaders and

(23:54):
the barbaradeat Center on the West Side. This is something
that was very near and dear to Doug scaff Junior's
hard and we're going to honor his legacy with this event,
raise money for those kids with cancer and the Bobberdebt Center.
So more to come on that, but circle your calendar folks.
September the twentieth. We don't know when the event exactly

(24:15):
will start, but it'll be two hours prior to kickoff.
We're hoping to have three point thirty kickoff that day,
which means the event will start at one point thirty.
We have a little Facebook page, Mountaineers Night Out, go
and learn more there. Always give me a call. I'm
an open book five four one four seven, five six.
We got tons of sponsors already lined up and we're
looking for more ticket sales and five hundred dollars sponsors,

(24:37):
So anyway that's coming. And then the next day, on
September twenty first over at Slack Plaza, the third annual
Leah's Legacy will happen at five o'clock down there. You're
surely honored the service the master ceremonies, but our good
friend would he was, will be spending some vibes there
and Josh Pantry's on a post ceremony concert. We're raising

(24:58):
money for the Leah Trickman Memorial Scholarship Fund, the little
girl that was tragically killed three years ago on I
seventy nine heading home from a soccer match, and we're
going to raise money for her. So it's a five k,
it's a two mile, it's a two mile walk and
a kid's fun run. But it's just a great time
with food vendors and beverages and music and a concert

(25:19):
and raising money for that and the strict and family.
So I'll be in more to talk about that, maybe
have maybe have the family come in and talk about Leah.
But anyway, those are just a couple of strange Dave,
and I appreciate the line and the buying as always
with you and our friendship, and you're always so good
to me to allow me come on even when I'm traveling.
I'm actually traveling up ice seventy nine now, so I'll

(25:41):
look forward to seeing you guys this weekend. And if
nothing else, brother, let me get back to my thing here.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Brother, Okay, all right, I do appreciate it and we'll
see you down live on the leve of tonight. Man,
thanks a lot.

Speaker 10 (25:54):
I'll be there, bless your heart. Thanks Dave, a good one.

Speaker 4 (25:56):
Jim Strown And you know, whenever I say to Jim,
well what's going on next now that Live on the
Levies coming to an end tonight, He's always got stuff
that's Leah's legacy thing. It's just gotten so huge. And
I've Jim mentioned about coming on the show to talk
about that, and I've had the Leah's parents on the
show the last couple of years. So you got that
going on. And I'm glad that they're going to continue

(26:17):
this Mountaineers Night Out. It's going to be at the
Red Carpet Pavilion. Now, you know the way the WVU
schedule works, now, we don't know until about a week
or so, you know, maybe two before the game what
time kickoff will be. But we'll give you plenty of
notice on that. And this is I'm so glad that's
continuing because this was an event that was so near
and dear to my good friend and yours, Doug scaff

(26:40):
who we tragically lost early this year in an auto accident.
So that's going to continue, so well, that'll be at
the Red Carpet Lounge. We didn't have a text about that.
Asking Jim if anything was planned while warm weather was
going on for WVU football games on the boulevard of
downtown outside would be awesome. I will make sure Jim
sees that. Jim was on a kind of a tight
schedule to get to a meeting. He was kind of

(27:01):
hurried me up there a little bit, so I didn't
get a chance to read that. One of the problems though,
that you run into sometimes, and I'm not going to
say this is an all case, is college athletics can
be can be depending on where you put the things
up on the big screen. They can be very picky
for copyright purposes. And so when you have a place

(27:23):
like the Red Carpet Lounge, and I'm just using that
as an example, those folks pay all the rights to
be able to broadcast whatever they want, but just having
it just anywhere, you gotta be careful because and this
is not a WVU thing, this is an NCAA thing.
College athletics NFL is the same way, and you get
a little bit to picky, you know, on where you
can broadcastings. But I do. I definitely appreciate that text

(27:45):
and make sure that Jim gets that Joe Stevens has
covered up a little bit. Later on, also, we're going
to talk about a big event happening to Capital Market
as it pertains to Jelly's and Jams. I do want
to mention, though, thank you to everybody that came out
last night for the annual Paint the Capital City Green event.
Marshall University Quarterback Club at Charleston held the event at
the bill No Flight School up at Western Giniater National
Yeger Airport, and it was completely sold out of this thing.

(28:08):
I think officially sold out about a week or so ago,
and it was just a great night, picture perfect up there.

Speaker 10 (28:14):
You know.

Speaker 4 (28:14):
I told we had some people sitting at our WVRC
media table that had never had never gone to the event.
Matter of fact, I don't think any that was at
our table had ever gone to the event before. I said,
you guys don't know what you're in for, because it's
going to be a great, big party celebrating the Marshall
University Thundering Herd, but also in the venue up there
at the bill No Flight School, and we just had

(28:34):
a great night weather, It was perfect, lots of great food,
lots of great drinks celebrating the thundering herd. Senator Shelley
Moore Capito was there trying to off the top my head.
A lot of other elected officials, Mayor Amy Goodwin kick
things off, Marshall, President Brad Smith, all the coaches were there,
including the coach. Julie Falks track and field coach was there,
and of course coach Gibson and Coach Jackson were there

(28:54):
as well, and just a great, great night all around,
and so many sponsors help make it possible raising money
for the Big Green, So thank you. I got to
serve as the MC last night. I got a lot
of pictures posted about it over on my social media
on Dave Alan Radio and Facebook, so you can go
check that out. We had a great time up there
last night. Looking forward to doing it again really really soon.

good morning, Welcome to the show.

Speaker 11 (33:04):
Good morning Dave, and yes, a busy, busy Saturday in
the fine metropolis of Nitro.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
Now, you and I both love our baseball, but you
know me, football is my real passion, and I got
really fired up last night going up to the Painting
Capital City Green Events, sold out event from Marsha University's
Big Green last night. Of course, college football really actually
getting underway this weekend. There's some college action going on
this weekend really begins to earn his next weekend, the
pros will be here in a couple of weeks. You know,

(33:33):
I'm all fired up about that. But you got an
event going on with the mount of your legend tomorrow
talk about and you got actually a couple of events
talk about it.

Speaker 11 (33:42):
Well, yes we do. We have probably the greatest quarterback
to play for WVU, and that's Major Harris number nine himself.
He will be here in Nitro. Tomorrow's starting off with
being the Grand Marshall and the Nitro Youth League Football
League annual parade he will be serving. Major will be

(34:04):
serving as the Grand Marshal and the parade goes starts
at the Nitro Boat Ramp and then follows the backstreets
up into Underwood Field at Nitro High School and then
from there Major will be flipping the ceremonial first coin
of the season. And the little side note on the coin,

(34:26):
it's a commemorative coin that we've had made especially for
the event. On one side is the Major's number nine
jersey and then on the other side is the logo
for the Nitro Youth Football League. And by the way,
these coins will be set for sale at the game
and also at the sports Guard show going on. I'll

(34:50):
tell you about that in the second but it's ten
dollars per coin for the commemorative coin. All the proceeds
the coins. We were able to have the CVB take
the coins cost and all the proceeds will be going
to the Nitro Youth League. But after the flipping of
the coin, and by the way, it'll be Nitro versus

(35:10):
Winfield for the Youth football game that will be the
opening game for the season. We'll be taking Major over
to the high school at the Commons area for the
Nitro Sports Cards Show that begins actually at ten o'clock.
We'll go to four o'clock in the Commons area of
Nitro High School. Major will be signing autographs around twelve

(35:34):
thirty one o'clock until three o'clock and the money, the
proceeds that he gets from the signing of the autographs,
half of the proceeds will be going to the Nitro
Youth League Football League. So it's a great time. Eleven
o'clock the parade, twelve o'clock, around twelve o'clock the coin flip,

(35:54):
and then we'll get Major over to the Sports Cards show.

Speaker 4 (35:58):
And you know the thing about it is, I think
it's great Major Harris does these sorts of things. But obviously,
I mean, you know, Major was in college at the
same time that I was. These uh, these kids only
know of the legends of Major Harris. Thankfully, a lot
of that video is available on YouTube, but I'm sure
there's gonna be I mean, they'll be excited to know
that a mountain your legend is here. But I must
say mommies and daddy's or grandparents are gonna be probably

(36:20):
a little bit more excited about getting to meet Major Harris.

Speaker 11 (36:23):
Oh, without a doubt, as many as fans of we
that we have of w v U football, and and
to be able to meet and greet and say I
met you know, Major Harris. That's gonna be a fun
time and it and it's you know, not behind glass
or anything like that. We're gonna be he and I
are gonna be sitting at the table. It's just like
what we did with George Foster with the uh, you know,

(36:44):
the Cincinnati Reds great that came in for the opening
of the Little League Baseball here in Nitro. It's it's
very uh fan friendly as it may be, and it's
just gonna be a good time.

Speaker 12 (36:57):
Dave.

Speaker 11 (36:58):
It's just it's it's really to see some of these
kids that they they all of a sudden they realize
who is with them and the smiles that come on
their faces, and that's what it's all about.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
But Dave Allanchow and five Any Line brought to you
part by Bridge Valley offering custom tailored trainings, iss last
field graduates and apprenticeship for your company visit Bridge Valley
dot Edu. And I can just imagine the conversations Joe
that are going on with these parents and grandparents that
are getting their kids aside and said, let me tell
you about the legend of Major Harris.

Speaker 11 (37:30):
I you know, I hope, I hope a lot of
the young people are going, like you said, go onto
YouTube and see some of the some of the plays
that he had where he should have lost twenty yards
and he scored a touchdown from sixty yards out. I
mean he as a as a player, you know. And
we were talking the other day here in the office

(37:52):
about what if he didn't hurt his shoulder against Nordre Dame,
what could have happened. It didn't, but it will always
be a what if for every WBU fan out there.
And it's just gonna be fun to meet him and
have him meet all the kids too, and enjoy a
day with a WDU great without a doubt.

Speaker 4 (38:12):
Well, and I'll say this, you know, there's been a
lot of great WVU teams teams over the years, and
there's a lot of excitement about the Mountaineers this season
with coach Rod Back and Pat White as an assistant
so on, and so forth. You think about those names
from a few years ago, like Pat White, Steve Slayton
and all these others. But you know, I was a
young man in radio when the Mouth of Eers had
that magical season in nineteen eighty eight when Major was

(38:35):
the star, and there's so many other great players on
that team, and I was just beginning my broadcasting career.
My Saturday afternoons were spent putting the Mouth in Eer
games on the air, and you know, doing the commercial
breaks and things of that nature. But I can still
hear in my head the legendary Jack Fleming calling some
of those some of those plays as you talked about

(38:56):
when he should have lost twenty and he gained twenty
five for Major Harris. And because I could just hear
Fleming in my head saying Major, because they didn't even
need to put the last name on it, it was
just Major. And I know, and I've been around, I've
done a lot of events with Major Harris over the years,
and I can tell you he never gets tired of
talking about and An's not really talking about himself, but

(39:17):
answering questions from fans that will say, well, you know
this play and trust me. I mean We love our
we love our college teams in West Virginia, and I
think a lot of that goes because we don't have
a pro team. We all have our favorite pro teams,
but we don't really have a pro team here. So
Mountaineer fans, Marshall fans and the others, they're very knowledgeable
and they'll bring out a specific play. And I've seen

(39:39):
people do this with Major Harris, say do you remember
this game against you know, filled end name here, and
Major may not necessarily remember all the details, but by golly,
the fans do. And that's that's a part of being
a living in a state where we do, where everybody
gets so wrapped up in Mountaineer sports and Marshall sports.

Speaker 11 (39:58):
And you know what with that said, you you know
that a lot of folks are going to be talking
to Major, But hey, I saw you when you did
this against Pitt. I saw you when you did this
against this team or that team. So that'll be a
lot of fun to hear, especially at the sports cards
show and everything. Speaking of professional team State, I will
not I'd be amiss without saying, what do you think

(40:21):
of our cowboys this year?

Speaker 4 (40:22):
And how far are they going to super Bowl, buddy,
super Bowl.

Speaker 11 (40:26):
Oh God, bless you well.

Speaker 4 (40:29):
I mean, you know, I'm using that as a very
loose term. Now, I don't know what's going to We
got a new head coach, and you know, we brought
in a backup quarterback for when Dak gets hurt and
we thought was going to light the world on fire.
And he's not done a whole lot in preseason, but
it is preseason. We opened up again in two weeks,
two weeks from last night in Philadelphia, the defending Super

(40:50):
Bowl champions. So who knows what's going to happen with
the Cowboys. But Hope Springs Eternal, Man, Hope Springs Eternal,
give us all the details on the big event that
you got tomorrow. G recap it.

Speaker 11 (41:01):
Okay, So the Nitro Youth League Football League, Youth Football
League will be getting underway tomorrow. We'll have the parade
from the area the put In area for the boat
ramp area for Nitro. It'll go down Main Street, a
couple side streets, end up at Underwood Field that starts
at eleven o'clock. Coin flip for the first game around

(41:24):
twelve o'clock or so. Then we're gonna get major over
to the Nitro Sports Card Show which is going on
in the Commons area of Nitro High School, and that
the card show itself is from ten until four. Major
will be there from twelve thirty one o'clock till about
three o'clock or so, so sign an autograph saying hi
to everybody. So it's just gonna be a fun day
for everybody here in Nitrol on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
All right, Joe, looking forward to it. We'll talk to

Speaker 3 (44:49):
How you doing, Liz, I'm doing well.

Speaker 14 (44:51):
Thanks for having me on the show.

Speaker 4 (44:52):
Welcome to the show. Talk about what's what's you got
going on here with jams and jellies. You had me
at jams and jelly.

Speaker 14 (44:59):
I know, right, who doesn't a good jam or jelly,
especially in the morning. So tomorrow actually is the twenty
twenty five jam Off. We're back by popular demand, if
you will. So the very first jam Off happened in
twenty twenty three during my time at Tutor's Biscuit World,
used to be their marketing director, and so the event
was founded as a Make a Wish event to celebrate
the partnerships long or the two brands partnerships long lasting relationship.

(45:23):
And yeah, I brought it back this year with my
own small business. I'm super excited to get to be
hosting it and you know, bringing it back, allowing this
platform to be here for the jam and jelly makers,
and we're gonna we're gonna try some jams and jellies tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (45:37):
So it's a capital market, that capital market from.

Speaker 14 (45:39):
Ten am till two pm. We've got over twenty different
jams and jellies to sample. We did things a little
differently this year, so there's gonna be multiple different types
of vessels. People are going to be trying them on.
So you might see some crackers, you might see some bread,
some biscuits, different types of things. But we're gonna have
we have an amateur division and a commercial division, and
we're gonna have a jug just panel that votes our

(46:01):
first place prize winners. They're each going to get five
hundred dollars. And then we're also going to have a
People's Choice and a Wish Kid's Choice, so the public
can come out, they can buy tasting tickets, try and
sample some of their favorite jams and jellies, even buy
a couple if they like them. And then at the
very end of it, we're going to do the award
ceremony and let everybody know who won.

Speaker 4 (46:19):
And again, this is going to be a benefit.

Speaker 3 (46:22):
Yes, it all goes to make a wish.

Speaker 14 (46:23):
So the event was originally created as a fundraiser and
I always want to help out our community, especially the kiddos,
as much as possible.

Speaker 4 (46:31):
And I'll tell you, you know you see these stories
with Make a Wish around the country and they are
very very touching because some of these kids that I mean,
they that they reach for the stars and other ones
just want just want simple things.

Speaker 3 (46:45):
Yeah, some of them.

Speaker 14 (46:46):
Stories, absolutely, some of them you know, want the grand things,
and some of them just want to have a fun experience.
So we actually are able to provide a great experience
for some of these children. We have a Wish Kids panel,
so they get to go around, taste and judge some
of the gams, jellies, and then Wish Kids Choice is
what's awarded for that. So very happy about the community support.

(47:07):
Couldn't be more thankful for you know, all of the
people who are participating helped sponsor, donate and everything. But yeah,
we're looking for a great time. We're gonna have live
music as well. We've got local West Virginia country rock
artist Brandon Laxton. He's going to be playing some music
for us during the event. We'll have a silent auction,
we'll have some T shirts for sale, some water, and

(47:28):
we're expecting a good turnout, so come out and see us.

Speaker 4 (47:30):
Now, you said there's going to be an amateur division
in one for more commercial type folks. Can they still
sign up for that or is it too late at
this point?

Speaker 14 (47:37):
If you get with me today, I will allow it today,
probably up until five o'clock today. If you want to
hurry and scurry.

Speaker 4 (47:45):
What's the best way to reach you?

Speaker 14 (47:46):
So the best way to reach me is by email probably,
which is Liz Martin LLC at gmail dot com. We
also have a Facebook page that I'm monitoring pretty actively
right now, so if you want to send us a message,
feel free to do so. That's just twenty twenty five
jam off. You can find out all sorts of information
on there as well, all the details about some of
the silent auction items, some of our contestants that are

(48:06):
going to be there. Our judges panel, we do have
Hannah Kleine from w HS TV. We've got Stephen Keith,
the guy, the food guest, who else could you get right,
He's got to be there. And then of course we've
got Candice Nelson from the Capital Market. So we've got
a wonderful Yeah, she's wonderful. She has been such a
huge help and just helping organize and plan the event.

(48:27):
And although you know, my business is the one who's
coming and bringing this to the public. It really is
a team effort, and I'm so thankful for the help
and the people that have been involved.

Speaker 4 (48:36):
Now, as somebody that considers themselves a food guy, I
think it's interesting because you know, I'm my background is
a whole lot more rural than Charleston. Uh And but
I can remember, you know, every year, my grandparents, my
aunts and you know whatever, canning jellies.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
But it was it was good.

Speaker 4 (48:52):
But it's pretty simple, you know, it was great. It
was strawberry apple, whatever the case. Maybe this has become
a major deal with all these exotic flavors, not only
here in apple Atcha, but all over the country.

Speaker 3 (49:03):
Really, yeah, there are I.

Speaker 14 (49:05):
Was very novice in the jam of the world of jams,
if you will, before I kind of got involved in this,
and I have learned so much. There are so many
different flavors that I wouldn't have even fathomed. I mean,
we've got an elderberry elixir that's going to be there.
We've got a peach hob andara that's going to be there.
We definitely have some of your wonderful basics, like your
grapes and your raspberries, but we've also got like some watermelon,

(49:29):
which is a little unique. And we've got all kinds
of different flavors, so there's a there's a really great
variety to try. And these people take a lot of
pride in what they do. They're wonderful at what they do. So,
I mean, twenty twenty three, the jams and jellies were amazing.
I'm just so excited to see what this year has
in store for it, how it all tastes. I didn't
get to sample really any in twenty twenty three. I

(49:51):
just heard from word of mouth, and I think I
maybe tried one because I was just busy. So this
year it is a priority. I will be trying those
jams and jellies. I will not be walking out without
a taste.

Speaker 4 (50:00):
Now you gotta have it. And you mentioned the peach hoabinnio.
I've got my wife and I have a very good
friend of ours who's originally from this area but lives
in Indiana now, and anytime that she comes in to
visit family, oh yeah, I get the peachab good stuff.
It's good stuff. What's the most exotic jelly? You mentioned
some of the elder elderberry, but even outside this realm
what's some of the most exotic ones You've know some

(50:22):
of them.

Speaker 14 (50:22):
That I've heard, And this is honestly from last year,
which unfortunately they weren't able to They ended up not
being able to compete. But we had some like onion marmalades.

Speaker 4 (50:31):
And I mean I'd try it.

Speaker 14 (50:33):
Yeah, I would absolutely try it. I would never turn
it down. Like I said, We've got the elderberry elixir,
which I'm really excited to try this year. I know
that there were some I'm trying to think that because
there's been so many flavors, they kind of all it's
amazing how many flavors there really are. But yeah, there's
there's wild berry mixes mixed with some pepper jellies. It's

(50:55):
just delicious, all right.

Speaker 4 (50:56):
They give us, give us all the details again.

Speaker 14 (50:59):
