It's Marmette Casey Foster, who we call the food Queen
(01:52):
of the Canaw Valley, is here to talk about it,
specifically about the chicken Wing meeting contest.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
So we're going to talk to her a little bit. No,
I'm not entering, by the way.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
Joe Stevens is here to talk about Boomtown Days tomorrow
with Nitro and of course Angree Gildenwater from the Kenawal
Charleston New Main Association with this week's Adopt Me Please
Pet of the Week picture posted over on dave aland
Radio on Facebook and also the w CCHS network Facebook
page and at dave A seventy on x Start but
talking little high school football. Tonight's w CCHS is Chris
(02:23):
Lawrence and Aaron Parker. We'll have covered to the Battle
of the Bridge, Crawford Field to Saint Albans will take
on Nitro.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
How you doing, I'm.
Speaker 6 (02:31):
Good, doing well, sir, I'm my sympathy is on the
game last night for you.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
I'm both sure that was rough and thank you for
you know, bringing that up.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
I just thought I would do that well, you know,
lightning delay, So I was late getting to the game.
I listened to the first half of the game on
w CCHS. I was driving back from Logan County last
night for the Hall of Fame dinner. H and then
I get home and it's a it's a it's a
one hour lightning delay. And so that was that. That's
(03:00):
always fun when you get up early, as you well know,
and you stay up until twelve thirty. I'm not as
young as I never was, that's for sure.
Speaker 6 (03:06):
Yeah, I can't do that anymore, even when Tennessee's playing
on a weeknight, I can't. And I just wait and
get the score in the morning. That's what I have
to do. Tonight, thought, we've got the Battle of the Bridge,
as you mentioned, and it's been a while since that
traveling trophy has been on the Saint Albans side of
the river. They'd certainly like to reverse that tonight, but
it will be a tall order for the Red Dragons
(03:27):
if they wish to do that. Nitro's got a stack team.
They're pretty good this year. They've got quite an offense,
and he continues to be a bit of a struggle
for Saint Albans, except for the fact that their best
running back was out of the game last week. He
will be back this week, so that will be a
plus for the Red Dragons. They're playing at home tonight,
and it's their home opener, so I'm sorry it's not
(03:50):
their home opener, but they are playing at home tonight,
and so that one kicks off at seven thirty, and
we'll have a pregame coverage here on five EIGHTWCCHS at
seven o'clock tonight about the Systemville Indians. Next thing, I
was going to say congratulations to those guys beating Tulsa
twenty to nineteen and ending a twenty one game losing streak.
That's fantastic, it is.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
I was going to bring that up. I was real
happy for those guys. Happy this morning.
Speaker 5 (04:15):
And of course you know you got the Saint Albans
and that's always a great game though. I mean it's
it's always a great contest rivalry.
Speaker 6 (04:22):
I can remember being at Crawford Field back in the
in the days and the year that Saint Albans, the
last year Saint Albans went to the state championship. They
played Nitro for the in the semi finals and I've
never seen anything quite that wild at Crawford Field.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
That was a wild night. Yeah, that one, that that
one was played. You'll have carverage of course, what you
got on the Outdoor Show tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (04:50):
We'll be live at Stonewall Resort for National Hunting and
Fishing Days. We'll be talking to diner and director Brett macmillion,
among others, including a guy who'ssisted a fish, Shionado was
squirrel dogs. So we'll be uh we'll be visiting with
him tomorrow morning on the show. And if you are,
if you got nothing else to do, and Dave, I
know you don't, you could you could come up to
(05:10):
uh Stonewall Resort tomorrow ten bucks, get you in the
gate and all kinds of things to do and see
in the outdoors, and in particular, if you've got children,
they can get involved in the Outdoor Youth Challenge and
learn learn a lot and participate and compete for prizes
in outdoor pursuits like shooting guns and fish identification and
stuff that I don't suspect that you would do well well,
(05:33):
but you could learn something.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Fish identification for me would be is it grilled?
Speaker 7 (05:37):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
It is it from Long John Silver?
Speaker 5 (05:41):
Yeah, you know, you know we have the food queen
of the Canal Valley here, Casey I do stor whether
it's Casey. You can come on any tell me if
you if you want to add to add to this conversation.
Speaker 6 (05:48):
So that's they are. They're also having the Taste of
the State Parks tomorrow, so they will and that's kind
of a cool thing. All of the restaurants at the
State Parks, you know, they've all got a restaurant.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Yeah, yeah, and all of them.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
Will be there and you can go around and you
can take a ticket and get a sample of whatever
they're serving. And I did it last year and it
was it fills up. I almost got full before I
ate and a sampled everything. What was the best thing
that you had last year? I can't remember, but it uh, yeah,
I can't remember.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
I liked it all.
Speaker 6 (06:18):
There aren't many things that I don't like, right, so,
but I was just going around helping myself.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Casey, what do you think about getting mister Lawrence in
the chicken wing eating contest next week at Ripfist?
Speaker 8 (06:30):
Would you like to?
Speaker 6 (06:31):
I don't want to be in the contest, No, but
I would be glad to come over and eat some wings. Well,
I don't want to do it as a competition because
it's I can't enjoy them. Then, yeah, that's true, because
you're just like like blowing through. It's like the hot
dog eating contest and the fourth of July. Yeah, I
love hot dogs, but I can't eat like sixty of them. Okay,
that one's sitting in a not with that attitude.
Speaker 8 (06:50):
You can't actually competed in that contest twice?
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Did you yes, I did. Congratulations, how'd you do?
Speaker 8 (06:56):
I raked in the middle, ranked in the middle. Now
last July the girl best out of me was throwing
up in a bucket. Yeah, it's a little bit of
a distraction.
Speaker 6 (07:05):
So it's I guess it's the mind of a matter
if you go into it without a competitive attitude and
look at it just like here's an opportunity for some
free food and then just enjoy yourself. And I guess
that you could pull that off that way.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
I can.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
I guess it's all about your attitude.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
I got it all right. Chris will be listening tonight
and tomorrow. I have fun Stone Baltimore. I appreciate it.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
Y'all have a great weekend, all right, mister Bragg, Hello,
you got Herbert Hoover.
Speaker 5 (07:29):
That's true to night talk about your game. You know,
I got a I came in a little bummed. Chris
was talking about that O six Nitro Saint Alban's game.
I'm a Nitro guy at heart where I went to school.
That was a downer, but then I remembered the caw
the Cowboys game went last night. That one brought me
back here. We got me ready to go. I had
to get my shot into. But no, Herbert Hoover. It's
going to be a fantastic game tonight, Big one too.
(07:50):
Kind of a budding rivalry, certainly since in the twenty
twenties Winfield hosting Herbert Hoover. It's the team teams that
have played leave. This will be their seventh meeting this decade.
One of those was a playoff game down at Winfield,
who we won by one point. I believe I was
twenty twenty two, but in twenty twenty five. Husky's coming
in oh to one and maybe licking the wounds a
(08:11):
little bit after losing a close game thirty seven to
thirty four at a very good Independence team last week.
But it wasn't what we've known at or what we've
come to expect out of Hoover the last few years.
Things were a little bit sloppy up front along the
offensive line, and that kind of is where a lot
of the problems stemmed. Their quarterback was sacked eight times,
running for his life all night, fumbled through a couple
of interceptions. Young kid, he was pressured, made made some
(08:34):
mistakes and that's something the Huskies are going to have
to clean up because it's another tough test at Winfield tonight.
It's Winfield team won to Oh. They kind of pounded
on Lincoln County last week, and unfortunately, if you're a
Panthers fan, that's probably gonna happen a few times this season.
So not sure exactly what how much stock to put
into what Winfield did against Lincoln County last week, But
you look at the stats and it's same old Winfield man.
(08:56):
They like to run the ball. They've got seven or
eight guys that they will get the ball to, and
they've got a couple of receivers who can pop big
plays too. So expect a good one tonight down in Winfield.
All right, we'll be listening to you and Murphy and
got the game tonight, Me and Murphy tonight and then
Daniel Wood tonight tomorrow. West Virginia State on the Beat
home opener, home opener in college. They are at noon tomorrow.
Where is Barton College? Barton College is in North Carolina,
(09:16):
North Carolina. All right, and a coverage on the Beat
is good. We're your home for West Virginia State to
football all season long. You and Daniel will have all
the play by play starting around noon time tomorrow and
one of seven three to beat.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
We'll be listening. That's correct.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Thanks for having us on day all right, I talked
to you next week, yep, Tom Tom Bragg of course.
And of course it's Hoover and Winfield tonight. You can
catch that on Superstar Country ninety six one KWS. Angie
Gill and Water from the Cannelge Charleston Yu Maine Association
is here with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet the Week, Angie,
good morning, welcome.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
To the show.
Speaker 5 (09:43):
Good morning, and I've also got with me Casey Foster,
who is going to be m scene the chicken wing
eating contest next week at Ribfest, and she's a big fan.
She was telling me in the green room there of
shelter pets and things of that nature. So Casey meet Angie.
Angie meet Casey.
Speaker 8 (10:01):
Very nice to meet Angie.
Speaker 9 (10:03):
Nice to meet you, Casey. I love to hear a
shelter pet enthusiast.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
Well, So we do this every week, you know, we
put a try to get a different pet adopted, and
as always we post a picture Dave Allen Radio on
Facebook and also the WHS network Facebook page and at
Dave A seventy on x Skipworth is the pet's name.
And I had to ask Ryan earlier because Ryan is
my go to on some of these names, and Ryan,
(10:29):
I don't think, had an answer for Skipworth. So tell
us about the name Skipworth.
Speaker 9 (10:34):
So actually that is one that I named. And on
my trip to Richmond, Virginia a couple of weeks ago,
I saw a road called Skippedwith Road and I was like,
that's actually a very cute name.
Speaker 7 (10:45):
We're using that skip with skip with yep uh.
Speaker 9 (10:50):
The simple is that I saw Rhoades sign and.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Was like, perfect, all right, tell us the story of Skipworth.
Speaker 9 (10:56):
So he's actually from a hoarding situation Kenall County where
they're about thirty to forty cats that are needing our help.
There's nobody there to take care of them anymore, so
we've been bringing them in in small groups and he
is one of them. We've gotten almost all of them neutered,
up to date on vaccines. But he is currently living
(11:18):
at the pet Co pent houses and his new Southridge
pet Co pent houses. I want to clarify, but he
is a little weary of his new environment. It's not
the house he's lived in for three to four years,
so he is very shy, but he is such a
sweet cat. He's one of those that you have to
go to him to get his attention or else he's
(11:39):
going to hide. But he loves to get pets. He's
a very, very very sweet cat, despite you know, being
curled up and hiding. I don't want his body language
to turn anyone away from adopting him.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
He's a beautiful cat.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
And again, I've got the picture posted on Dave Island
Radio on Facebook and at Dave A seventy on X
and also the WCCHS network Facebook page.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
It looks like he does have something going on with
his ear.
Speaker 9 (12:03):
Yes, so a lot of the cats from that house
have that that specific ear. It almost looks like a
folded down book page. But Arve is pretty confident that
those are old hematomas that have healed and they shouldn't
cause any issues in the future medically. It's just an
aesthetic thing at this point. He just has a little
(12:25):
folded down here.
Speaker 5 (12:27):
You want to know what a small world it is,
Angie and Casey, I just got a text from Marrily
mccalliffe from a WWK TV thirteen. She lived off that
road that you're referring to.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Oh, really, it's small world, very fall.
Speaker 8 (12:44):
It's West Virginia.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Well, well now it's Virginia.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
It's on the way, it's Virginia. It's Virginia. Today is
International Charity Day. I saw this post it on your
Facebook page. Angiine you're wanting people to show off their
adopted pets on your social media.
Speaker 9 (12:58):
Yes. Absolutely. We love of getting updates on you know,
casey Cha alumni that have left the building. That's one
of our favorite things as far as the social media girls,
because we screenshaw everyone's posts and send it to our
employee group chat. And when I tell you, everybody in
the chat will just melt.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
We had a text to the show.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
By the way, I do need to mention with Dave
Allen showing five eighty Live is brought to you parted
by Morgan to Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
I didn't have a text of the show.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Somebody said, are there any updates on Sissy who was
hit by a car and Jacks who was returned and
suffering depression and the innocent kitten that was slammed onto
the floor in Saint Albans. We actually some way texted
the show yesterday about that kitten situation in Saint Albans.
But are you aware of Sissy who was hit by
a car?
Speaker 9 (13:47):
Yes, I do have updates on all three.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Okay, guys, you go ahead and get it and you
you and Casey talk. I'm gonna leave go ahead.
Speaker 9 (13:55):
So Sissy. Cissy is one of our staff members. Actually
took her to the veterinarian this morning that was going
to help us out, doctor Stevenson. So she is at
their vet clinic right now. I don't have any updates
as far as if they've started her surgery or not,
but I do know that she made it there. And
you know I can text with updates so you can update,
(14:18):
and I'm sure our Facebook page will update later on
throughout the day. Jack's actually went to a foster home yesterday.
They brought their dogs up to hang out and play
with him. They did beautifully, So he is hanging out
in foster until he gets adopted. And then the last
one was the kitten from Saint Albans. Again, the kitten
(14:39):
is where. It's an ongoing cruelty investigation. I can't share
too many details, but I can say the kitten is
doing well. It is stable and it's actually, you know,
starting to walk again, and it's it's just doing much
better than we initially anticipated when it first came in.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
All right, that's that's good to hear. And I know
that you can't we talked to a little bit last week.
There's a lot because this is an ongoing investigation, so
there's not a lot you can say other than that,
So we appreciate the update.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
What kind of supplies are you in need of the.
Speaker 9 (15:08):
Biggest things right now are wet and dry dog food.
Wet food, we're not picky. Dry we use curing a
dog chowl down, dishwashing liquid and then oddly enough again
volunteers to help us get through daily operation.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Yeah, indeed, you out and about anywhere on this weekend.
Speaker 9 (15:29):
So tomorrow we're going to be at south Ridge pet Co.
Actually I won't be. I will be on vacation in Morgantown,
but Deth will be your vacation in Morgantown. Oh, that's
a vacation for me whatever whatever.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
Enjoy enjoy So but anyway, you'll be at Petco tomorrow
south Ridge.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Right where else Where's that?
Speaker 9 (15:49):
It uh just a pet Co in south Ridge with
a bunch of adoptable puppies and you can actually meet
Skip with pet of the Pet of the Week tomorrow
at south Ridge Pet Co with our half there.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
All right.
Speaker 5 (16:02):
You know, as I said, Casey's going to be here
to talk about Ripfest. She's sitting in on this segment.
We need to convince Casey that she needs to adopt
a pet.
Speaker 9 (16:10):
Oh, that'll be We're like car salesman.
Speaker 7 (16:12):
I can do that, all right.
Speaker 8 (16:14):
I have four cats and I have a thirty four
year old turtle.
Speaker 9 (16:22):
Well, what's one more cats?
Speaker 8 (16:25):
They're like chips, all right, potato chips.
Speaker 9 (16:27):
Absolutely, I have seven cats, so like you need to
catch up at.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
This Wow, oh boy, I'm good with my two. Grady
and Whaling are fine. Quick text here for you Angie
before we let you go. Do volunteers have to be eighteen?
Speaker 9 (16:41):
No, you can be any age that volunteer. If you
are younger than the age of sixteen, you do need
a parent or legal guardian there with you throughout the day.
But you can be any asia all to come volunteer
with us.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
All right, sounds good? Hey, Angie, we will talk again
next week. Will you be back with us next week?
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Absolutely, I will talk again next week. Thanks a lot,
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
I have a good one as well, Angie Gillawater knaw
Charlest and you Maine association with the Adopt Me Please
Pet of the Week and it is skip with around
three years old, neutered, vaccinated. It came from a hoarding situation,
so it's very skittish. Does have and you'll see the
picture if you go over to my Facebook pager, my
(17:21):
X page, you'll see that he does have a bit
of a hem atoma, but they say that it should heal. Okay,
it's not causing him any problems or anything. And this
was a pretty bad situation, so obviously he's still a
little bit skittish. He you got to go to him
as opposed to him coming to you, which that's true
with a lot of cats, to be honest with you,
but this would make a great, great pet and already
(17:43):
ready to go, neutered backs, ready to go. Check out

We'll talked to Joe Stevens from Nitro coming up a
little bit later on about the Boomtown Days that are
happening tomorrow. Next week, Ribfest is going to be happening
in Marmette and as part of that, we have some
eating contest going on. Casey Foster, is it fair to
call you the food Queen of the Kanaal Valley?
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Do you like that or do you know?
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Hey, I'll take it all right, All right, there's no
sash or anything involved with that. But so talk about
how how you first got involved in all this stuff
in ripest? Yeah, well, just the whole food thing in general.
Speaker 8 (21:00):
Oh boy, Okay, when we're talking about fifteen years ago,
I worked at the Charleston gazet Mel and one of
my responsibilities was traveling tourism advertising, and so I would
travel around the state. I'd work with the CVBS showcase
restaurants and businesses in their areas. I would do dining pages,
(21:21):
and for National hot Dog Month, I would go around
the state and I would you eat all these places
that sold hot dogs. I would do two pages just
full of restaurants. I'd have a little map on there,
and I would eat hot dogs at all these places
and rank them. And my record was sixty eight hot
(21:44):
dogs in a month. I wouldn't recommend that. I had
my gobladder removed, but they nicknamed me the hot Dog
Queen and it stuck. And I did that every single year.
And so that's actually how I got my foot in
the door. Started you know, doing stories on different kind
(22:04):
of you know, restaurant histories, food histories, local food histories.
And then I started competing, and I've competed in several contests.
Then I started organizing. I've been judging. Actually, the Bridge
Day Chili Cookoff is coming up next month and I'll
(22:25):
be back for the sixth year to judge that and
it's really fun. So yeah, I mean I probably have
about fifteen to twenty events under my belt.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
So what is it that you enjoy so much about
I mean, other than the food, it's not just that.
I mean, but because you can sit sit in your
house and eat the food. What is it that you
enjoy about this?
Speaker 8 (22:44):
I love socializing, work with a community, meeting new people.
And I'm competitive too. Who doesn't like to win, right,
And you know there's always fun prizes and so forth.
But I like to just you know, be a little
bit different, you know, get out of the comfort zone.
And especially as a woman, so you know, in a
(23:05):
lot of these contests, I've been the only woman to
compete and I like to represent well.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
And that's one thing that we wanted to talk about
with this with this winging, because first of all, when
is it going to be?
Speaker 8 (23:17):
Okay? It is going to be Sunday, next Sunday, next Sunday,
the fourteenth, Okay, okay. And what we're doing is I'm
asking everyone who registers, you must register to be there
at one thirty.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
I'll go over the rules and exactly where is it.
Speaker 8 (23:33):
Okay, it's going to be at the Ben Morse Ball
field in more mets. Okay, okay, so we'll have a
stage set up and uh so everybody will get there
at one thirty. I'll go for the rules from regulations.
We're going to have two separate contests. First up are
the women. Okay, Now, I do have a couple spots
left for females and women. You just compete against each other.
(23:57):
You're going to have ten minutes to eat as many
wings as you can, so you know, they'll have a
plate of ten wings. After you finish that, you go
on to the next plate. You got ten minutes to
do it. You have to eat all the meat off
the bone, and of course you can't throw up or
you're going to be disqualified.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
So you're disqualified for throwing up. Yes, that see.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
And I've told this story on the air before you
see these contests Casey on TV. You know the Nathan's
hot dog eating contests and so on.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
I can I can do that.
Speaker 5 (24:27):
The first time I was ever I've never entered a competition,
but I was asked to m see a hot dog
eating competition.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
This was probably twenty years or so ago.
Speaker 5 (24:35):
And and for you're eating breakfast right now, I apologize,
but you've heard this story before, if people listen to
me for a while. So I'm up on stage at
this fair and I am, you know, M seeing this competition.
And these the folks that you see at the Nathan's Contest,
these are professionals.
Speaker 3 (24:50):
This is what they do. I was not prepared because every.
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Everybody thinks, oh, I can I've eaten, you know, hot
dogs at the at the Free Will Baptist I can
throw down some dogs. No, it's a little bit different thing.
And the first time, if you remember the movie, the
iconic movie Stand by Me, the famous bar Forarama, that's
what we had on stage at the Logan Memorial Fieldhouse
(25:15):
or Arts and Crafts Fair.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
Maybe that's why they don't do the Arts and Crafts
Fair anymore. I don't know. But one guy started it,
and then there was at least two or three more afterwards.
Speaker 7 (25:24):
And I.
Speaker 5 (25:26):
Don't have a particularly weak stomach. But that's one thing
that's probably a good thing I've ever had kids, because
that's one thing I cannot deal with, is that. And
when one person started, the second person and I say
that to say this, it's a good thing that.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
You are, you know, telling people ahead of time. If
you think you're gonna throw up, you're done.
Speaker 8 (25:44):
Usually there are buckets provided and they're by your feet. Okay,
And my recommendation is, if you ever, you know, compete
in an eating contest, don't look down, because I tell
you what the last hot dog eating contest that I
was in, and I'll look down, the girl beside of
me had already filled up that bucket.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Oh good, this is nice. This is this show has
gone off the rails.
Speaker 8 (26:09):
But anyway, anyway, so that that's not every single circumstance,
you know, not that many people as long as you
don't look in the buckets, they do not throw up.
Maybe one or two here and there. And so you know,
I actually, you know, I advise people because you know,
I've competed in so many contests, and I've tried different methods,
(26:32):
and you know, I watch videos, you know, watch TV.
You know different I probably tried every single method for
competitive hot dog eating that is known to mankind.
Speaker 5 (26:46):
But because there's different way, and I know we're talking
about wings, I actually have a question for you about
the wing any kind of But but you see them
on TV. You know that they will dip them in
water and that how did you do because you competed
in the competition the hot dog any kind, you've done
it in the past.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
What's your method when it comes to hot dog?
Speaker 8 (27:00):
Okay, okay, Well I've tried different methods because I've done
multiple hot dog eating concoasts. So what I would the
first time, Okay, I came up with my own kind
of blended method. There's the kobashi method, and that is
where you actually break apart of wiener. You put both
(27:21):
pieces of the winterer in your mouth and then you
break apart the bun. Okay, You're gonna dip the butt
in water because that moistens it and makes it more palatable,
so you can just like, you know, go ahead and
scarf it down. You don't want to try to eat
a dry bun because you're going to choke.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Okay, Okay.
Speaker 8 (27:37):
The bad thing about that is it tastes bad when
you dip that bun in water. It's horrible. So what
I did was I looked at other competitors and some
of them used coca cola, So I blended kobyashi with
coca cola. Okay, coca cola. It sweetens the taste of
(27:57):
the bread, so it's more palatable for one thing, Okay,
it also and it's it might sound disgusting, it makes
you burn, but when you belch, okay, you're releasing that
air and you're making more room in your stomach for
more food. Okay. So I was like, okay, I got this.
I went to tutors and you know, Weenie Wednesday, I
(28:19):
was I was practicing at home. You know, there was
a couple of times where I'd coughin like, you know,
like wieners were flying out of my mouth. My my
poor cat Bella. You know, she was watching me. She
was the audience, and she got hit more times than
I'd like to mention. But when I actually got up
on the stage, because sometimes it's good in your head,
(28:41):
it sounds like a good idea, when you're out there,
not so good. So I, you know, I am scarfing down.
I had five cans of Coca cola. There, I'm down
in that coke and you know, tearing up the buns
and everything. And I meant, there's coke dripping down my face.
The mayor up and she's telling me I'm doing a
good job, and I just burped right there.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
That's nice. Ryan.
Speaker 5 (29:06):
If you can't get a promo out of this, then
then you're not worth your way as a producer. All right,
let me let me get back to the chicken wings,
well of a cup, because we got questions that they
want to talk to you. All right, but okay, hold
on this one though, is about your method with the coke.
Doesn't the acid in coke dissolve some of the bund.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
That seems like a form of cheating just saying this,
says a texture.
Speaker 8 (29:28):
I didn't make the rules. Yes, it's uh, you know, basically,
anything that you do with the liquid, it just turns
it into a ball of mush. And when you're in
a competition, you're just trying to shovel it in. So
you know, I'm really not like savoring the taste or
noticing how acidic things are. It just tastes sweeter and
I can get it down, all right.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
Let me get back to the chicken wings. Are the
wings hot or spicy? Says a texture or just plain
or mild?
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Also? Are they breaded or just sauce covered?
Speaker 8 (29:57):
Okay? They are naked?
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Okay, So there's I would say would be the best
way to do it would just be And by naked wings,
we mean just playing.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (30:04):
Yeah, but you know there is an option if you
want to bring your own sauces and the you know,
like put sauce on them. I don't recommend it because
that takes up time.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Yeah, okay, all right.
Speaker 6 (30:15):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
The next question was are the wings a mix of
drummis and flats or just one drummers and flats? Okay,
so it's kind of a mixture.
Speaker 8 (30:23):
It's a mix.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Can a competitor come in and say I want nothing?
But I would think that would be cheating to say,
so you're going to get a mix.
Speaker 8 (30:30):
You're going to get a mix, is it now?
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Is it going to be an equitable mixed?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
So?
Speaker 3 (30:33):
For example, and how many are you eating?
Speaker 6 (30:35):
Again?
Speaker 3 (30:35):
How many?
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Asked? Eat?
Speaker 8 (30:36):
Okay, well the winner is you know what?
Speaker 5 (30:41):
Okay, I guess the question I was asking? How does
it start out? You start off with like one or
I mean, okay.
Speaker 8 (30:46):
What they'll do is they'll bring you out a plate.
There's a there's a plate for each person has ten
on it. Okay, and you know there'll be people standing
mind watching you eat that. As soon as you finish
that plate, you'll get another plate replenished, so you know
they'll put another I.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
Guess my question is is that on that plate it's
going to be an equal number of flats and drummings
or you just don't know what you're getting to to dive.
Speaker 8 (31:08):
In that it's a blend and the company that's doing
the wings is King's Kitchen.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Okay, so it's a local business. Okay, Well that's good.
What about the prize?
Speaker 8 (31:20):
Okay, So there's going to be a female winner and
a male winner. As I said earlier, the women will
go up first two o'clock okay, so they'll have ten
minutes to eat as many as they can, okay. And
then next up is the men, and it'll be the
same thing. They'll have ten minutes to eat as many
as they can. So there will be a female winner
and a mail winner. Both winners will receive one hundred dollars,
(31:43):
a free rip frist T shirt and a really big trophy.
Speaker 5 (31:49):

you know, and then we'll go from there. But hey,
they I liked what I saw, to be honest with you,
I mean, Dylan Hurts can play. And well, let's talk Boomtown.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Let's talk about boom Tack. Casey Foster's here, by the way.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
She's involved with rib Fest, which is going to be happening,
uh next week in Marmett. And we're trying to drum
drum up. See what I did there, Joe. We're trying
to drum up a little a little not well, not
the numbers, because they have a women's division in this
chicken wing eating contest. I don't have a lot of
women that are signed up yet, and Casey's getting lonely,
so we're trying to get her some more, some more
(37:13):
people in there. Now, Joe does a big chili This
is an internationally talking I mean, I know you're not
doing that tomorrow, Joe, but talk about what you do

and good luck with everything but the chili cook off.
(37:49):
The winner will have three separate winners, one in the
traditional red category which means no beans or filler, and
then we have the green category chili verdie. And we
have the home style category, which is basically what Dave
cooks for his Super Bowl party that he has every year.
And those three winners will then qualify to represent the
(38:09):
city of Nitro in the World Championships every year held
by the International Chili Society. But that'll be happening on Saturday,
November eighth.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
All right, so Casey put that on your calendar. You
need to be a part of that.
Speaker 7 (38:21):
Hey, do you need a judge, Casey, Dave's got my

Speaker 3 (38:34):
Come on, all right, we'll make sure make it happen.
Speaker 5 (38:36):
Let's talk about this event tomorrow, Boomtown Days, Nitro's homecoming.
Talk about the event tomorrow, Joe, Well, you know it's.
Speaker 7 (38:43):
Going to be an event when you're sitting in your
office and you see in the portageimes set up, so
you know something something is happening. And yes, it is
happening tomorrow right here in Nitro. Everything gets underway around
ten o'clock or so with the parade that will go
from Pickens Road on Route twenty five or First Avenue
(39:03):
down to nineteenth Street. If you would like to be
involved in the Boomtown parade, I will be lighting people up.
And if you come in and say I want to
be in the parade. Hey bring it on and you
can be in the parade, but that lineup starts at
nine o'clock. Parade starts at ten, and then everything is
centered around the Living Memorial Park, which is at the
(39:24):
corner of the intersection of Second Avenue and twenty first
Street here in Nitro. The vendors will be in the park.
We got quite a few cramp vendors and a lot
of information booths and that sort of thing. But one
of the mainstays of the event is the Nitro Antique
Car Club Annual Car Show, and we're expecting anywhere between
(39:44):
one hundred and hundred and fifty cars. They will be
lined up on Second Avenue from twenty first Street, down
the nineteenth Street and in into the Nitro Elementary School
parking lot. Some of the finest vehicles in the Canal
Valley and there's people that come from all around for this.
So if you really would like to see some spit
and polish, that will be happening on Second Avenue. The
(40:07):
car show is Registration starts around nine, but the cars
will be out there from at least from ten to four.
We've got a kids area where we have a Foam
Dome and that will be right there at Saint Paul's
Methodist Church on twentieth Street. Some inflatables will be happening
for the kids and that'll be going on. Gave Who've
got music and a close front of yours. Steve Bishop
(40:31):
is MCing from your sister station V one hundred will
be em seeing the day here in Nitro and the bands.
We kind of give the local bands a shot at
just playing in front of some folks that they might
know and that may not have heard them before. But
we've got the Barn Holler Band and they will be
(40:51):
opening up at eleven and then the Analog Boys will
be coming on around one point thirty. Then our headliner
will be the Adams Eden Eagles cover band. And this
show is free, everything you know is free for the
entertainment and everything, and they will be coming on about
four fifteen or so and playing until about six fifteen,
(41:12):
so just a whole bunch of fun. And then and
in the meantime over at Saint Paul's Methodist Church from
four to seven there will be the Italian Fest and
what that is it's the biggest fundraiser of the year
for the Nitro Mission team and you can go in
and get your Italian fest of meal. You can either
eat it there or you can get it to go.
(41:33):
So just a fun day in Nitro, David, it.
Speaker 5 (41:35):
Sounds like it, and I love the charitable aspect of
It's with the Nitro mission there.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
That's I was going to bring that up. That's really
cool that you do that.
Speaker 7 (41:43):
Yeah, I mean, these guys just work so hard for
the community. They handle the food pantry, they handle the
Christmas backpack program, they handle a toy Big Toy Drive
giveaway each year, and they step up for the community
and we try to step up for them.

unrelated to what we're talking about here, but I know
that you're always good about answering people's question, Joe. Somebody
wanted to ask about the Nitro citywide yard sale.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
Is that going to be a thing?
Speaker 7 (42:23):
We won't be a as organized as it has been
in the past. In October, we will continue to work
with the organizers for the June event, which is the
first Saturday in June, but the October one will be
still a yard sale. And what we're doing is we're
also allowing folks to be involved if there is a
citywide yard sale Facebook page that they can post where
(42:46):
their yard sales will be, and we are waiving the
yard sale permit fee on that day, which is the
first Saturday in October. So as organized as it has
been in the past, No, is it still happened.
Speaker 11 (43:00):
Yes?
Speaker 7 (43:00):
Does that answer your question?
Speaker 3 (43:01):
Yes, it does. It's about it. It's very clear.
Speaker 5 (43:05):
And I didn't want to mention that for the parade
tomorrow because you said Steve Bishop's going to be there
from being one hundred, some of our stations are going
to be there. I am going to be there for
w c HS, Shockley is going to be there for
the Mountain, and I think Rob Reel is going to
be there for KWS. So we're looking forward to seeing
everybody there as well. Now again, if people want to
sign up for the parade, tell us Joe, what do
they need to do?
Speaker 4 (43:26):
Show up?
Speaker 7 (43:26):
Show up?
Speaker 3 (43:27):

the weather will be.

a little different today. In honor of the Mountineers playing
OU in Athens tomorrow, Ohio, of course, the alma mater
of my co host Ab, We're going to feature a
great eating spot in Athens for those of you that
are making the short drive up to Peeden Stadium for
the game tomorrow. Also, we're going to preview tomorrow night's
(47:32):
or tomorrow afternoon, I should say, a Mountain near Bobcat
game with the Greg Carey and the play by play
guy for Ohio, Marty Banister. Big announcement scheduled for today
at Capitol Market. Not exactly sure what it is. As
of now, I can tell you the WVU President, Michael Benson, Marshall, Pres.
Brad Smith, Charleston Mayor Goodwin and the Canawa County Commissioner
all going to be involved, will try to bring you
(47:52):
that story. Political communists Mark Curtis will stop by. There
is still someone out there that has a million dollar
powerball ticket. It was perchase at the Palmar Store in
downtown Hurricane and as of now, no one has claimed it.
It's been several months. Well, if it's not claimed by Monday,
it gets forfeited. So we're gonna talk to the acting
Lottery Director, David Bradley about that. Aaron Parker's here with

their Friday Football Blitz and of course open line West

Baron and Me coming up at noon today powered by
Selango Law. On Monday's local show, Doctor Casey Sachsonbridge Valley
will stop by. Former Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, who reopened
his barbecue stand on Coyer yesterday.
Speaker 3 (48:31):
Big success. I'm told I was really slammed yesterday. Didn't
get over there. I'm gonna try to make it over
there late this afternoon get some food to take home.
But it was a big success.
Speaker 5 (48:40):
So Danny will be on the show on Monday, and
doctor Stephen Eschenauer, who was a Republican who's going to
be running for state Senate, is going to join us
on the show on Monday. Bigley Piggli Wiggley hotline three

(49:00):
the eating contest, the chicken wing eating contest. Uh, Casey,
has there been any other thought to doing anything besides
chicken wings? For I know you're not one of the organized,
you're just helping out with this, but I mean, I mean,
could we do ribs? Could we do sides at some point?
Maybe not this year, but next.
Speaker 8 (49:14):
I mean I'm always open to suggest, so you can
eat anything.
Speaker 3 (49:21):
I'm gonna give. I'm gonna give you.
Speaker 5 (49:22):
I'm gonna give you a like a criticism text here, Okay,
not you personally, okay, It says, uh, Dave. Competitive eating
is disgusting and the people who participate are a big
part of the world's problems today. They don't completely eat,
don't competitively, I should say in Sudan to the God's Trip.
My answer to that would be, then don't attend. If
you don't like it, don't go appreciate the text. But
(49:45):
it's not for everybody.
Speaker 8 (49:47):
You know, it's all in fun. You know, it's not
just you know, competing or gorging yourself. But you know,
it's just you know, bring your friends, bring your family.
You know, it's that's a good time.
Speaker 3 (50:00):
That's gonna be a good time.
Speaker 5 (50:01):
And of course our station's gonna be broadcasting live from
up there, I understand. So if this is not your thing,
there's plenty of other things that you can do there.
Stuff for the kids, as you said, and music and
so on and so forth. Tex says, I dip my
buns in beer. Someone said, that's gonna fill you up.
If you drink the beer, that's gonna fill you. And
that's why I like at chili competitions, which I have
not done chili eating competitions, but I've judged a lot
(50:23):
of chili competitions. Everybody, they're very very strict on what
you can drink with it, nothing but water because that
way doesn't affect the pilott. No, you know, you can't
add salt, can't add crackers, you can't add cheese or
sour cream when any of that stuff.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
Everybody has the same thing. Text says naked waners buns.
This show is wild text.
Speaker 7 (50:44):
All right.
Speaker 5 (50:45):
There was another text here that I have lost somewhere.
Oh yeah, this this segment is gross. It is the
text lol, but they put lol after it. Well it's
one that you're going to remember, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (51:00):
All right. Closing moments again, what's the time frame for
the entire rib fest? Because it's all like, okay, everything
kicks off Thursday.
Speaker 5 (51:08):
It's next Thursday through the weekend. And what you're here
to talk about the chicken weed eating contest. And this
is a special appeal for women, as you said.
Speaker 8 (51:16):
Yes, yes, I have a couple spots open for women.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Men.
Speaker 8 (51:20):
We have plenty, We have alternates in case, you know,
somebody doesn't show. But yeah, women come out, come out
full force, you know. Register. There is a Facebook page
a set up specifically for the chicken wing eating contest,
and I'm going to start working on bios. I've asked
(51:41):
everybody to submit pictures that way. You can get to
know the competitors before the contest even begins.
Speaker 5 (51:46):
So they need to get to go to this Facebook page.
And that's the best way to do it. And how
is it listed?
Speaker 8 (51:51):
Okay? It is the twenty twenty five can All rib Fest.
Doug Scaff Junior Memorial Chicken Weed Contact.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
Big shout out to my man Scaff. He would have
loved this sort of thing.
Speaker 8 (52:03):
Oh oh yeah, well he was the MC.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
Yeah. And and I knew Doug we all Yeah.
Speaker 8 (52:09):

when I left the newspaper. Last time I saw Doug,
I was actually welcome to work and he asked me
how I was doing that about my son.
