Well I'm not because I'm in here, but they're out

returning to the parking a little bit later on. So
just pull into the parking lot, and we can also
take your cash donations if you want to do that,
So we can take a check. We can even do
the whole QR code thing if you want. Seven AM's
when we started. We'll be out there atill six o'clock tonight.

(02:25):
And again, so many folks like Appalachria Power and Serve
Pro and just so many folks have come out to
help us with this from a corporate standpoint, but it's
all about the listeners. You folks are the greatest in
the world. And as of about thirty minutes or so ago,
we had already collected In roughly ninety minutes, we'd already

(02:46):
collected thirty turkeys out there, folks. So I mean, people
pull up with one, people pull up with a truckload, truckload,
whatever the case may be. Even if you can just
make a small cash donation, that's fine too. So again
we have more in that coming up a little bit
later on. Also Thanksgiving us next week. But some folks
are already thinking about Christmas. The city of South Charleston.
One of those, Sean Zaniga from the City of South Charleston,

(03:08):
is gonna join us to talk a little Christmas in

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Let's welcome to the show though our good friend from
Bridge Valley Community Technical College, doctor Casey Sachs. Good morning,
welcome to the show.

Speaker 6 (03:28):
Good morning, So great to be with you today, Dave.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
So great to hear your voice. Great to have you
with us. You know, sometimes you join us in studio,
sometimes you join us on location. Completely understood, But you
are missing Turkey drop, doctor Sachs.

Speaker 6 (03:41):
I know what a bummer I'm but you know I'm
having fun over at Bridge Valley today. So you're also
missing out at the college.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
Well, okay, all right, what kind of fun are we
missing over there?

Speaker 6 (03:51):
You know? School?

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (03:52):
Oh, oh, that thing, that thing, that thing that we do. Well,
appreciate you being here. Do want to talk about you.
You just got back from DC?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Is that right?

Speaker 7 (04:04):
I did.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
I came home from DC last night. It's so good
to be home.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
All right.

Speaker 5 (04:08):
What were you doing in DC?

Speaker 8 (04:10):
So?

Speaker 6 (04:10):
I was invited to something that was a round table
for education leaders to talk about a project that the
White House has put out that's called a Compact for Education.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Okay, and what is that?

Speaker 6 (04:22):
So the White House has asked higher education for several things,
to be more affordable and transparent, to not discriminate, to
support veterans, things that I think most people would generally
agree with. But they've asked the higher education community for feedback.
And I was the first community college president to be
invited across the whole country. So there were eight of

(04:45):
us yesterday and we sat with the Secretary of Education
and talked about what we're doing at our schools. That's
wonderful and she'll take that back as feedback and revise
the compact accordingly.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
What did you hear from the other colleges, Because you know,
there's nothing like a little networking doctors ACKs you well
now and learning one learning from each other. What did
you pick up from the other college presidents or college officials?

Speaker 6 (05:07):
Two things that I thought were really cool. Florida has
this website called my Florida Futures, and there were really
trying hard to be transparent about what are the jobs
that tie back to which majors so, and it's well visited.
Lots of students use it to make college going decisions.
So if you're thinking, gosh, I want to be a
machinist at Toyota, recognizing that the way you get there

(05:29):
is going through bridge valleys, Advanced Manufacturing Technician program is
really important and it's something that Florida has been very
transparent about. So I thought that was meat and something
that we might want to copy. And I also thought
Texas State Technical College had some really interesting tuition models.
They actually do variable tuition by program, So if you're

(05:50):
going into a program like nursing, the tuition is higher
than if you're going into a program like social work
because it's more expensive to offer a nursing program, and
you also make better wages as a nurse than you
do as a social worker. But we need both of
those programs to fill the jobs that exist.

Speaker 5 (06:06):
You're and one other present right about that, And again
I guess I hadn't thought about it when you first
began that. I was thinking, well, why is one more
expensive than the other. But there's more stuff involved, I guess.
I mean not the social works not important, do not
get me wrong, especially in West Virginia, and we know
about the crisis of a lack of social workers we have.
But you got to have more hands on stuff with nursing.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
That's right. I mean, we have a whole hot we
have a three million dollar hospital wing that goes along
with the nursing program, and it's still a lot of
hands on learning. So it's just a very different program delivery.

Speaker 5 (06:37):
You mentioned Toyota. The announcement was made earlier this week
by the officials of Toyota that they're going to be
doing a nationwide expansion of many many things, and of
course the big plan over in Buffalo and Putnam County
is going to be a big recipient of that. They're
going to be hiring more people to come in and
it's a multimillion dollar expansion that they're doing there. Talk

(06:57):
about Bridge Valley's involvement with.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
So we hold a program that's called FAME here at
Bridge Valley. It's the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education. Toyota
and lots of other manufacturers in the area. Service Wires
also doing a gigantic expansion right now. They all need talent.
They're all trying to hire people who have a similar
skill set. So the great thing about the FAME program

(07:22):
and that federation is that they've collectively said, we want
to hire people together and not compete against each other
to try and steal workers. So they've all agreed to
the same kind of training. And what that means for
a learner is you go through one training program and
you would be qualified for jobs at any one of
the manufacturing partners.

Speaker 5 (07:39):
I mean, and you talked about this before. Again, we're
talking with doctor Casey Sacks, a Bridge Valley Community of
Technical College, and you talked.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
About this before.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
The amount of people and that partnership that Bridge Valley
has with Toyota and people goes. I mean, and you
talked about this before. Again, we're talking with doctor Casey Sacks,
a Bridge Valley Community of Technical College, and you talked.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
About this before.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
The amount of people and that partnership that Bridge Valley
has with Toyota and people goes to these programs. I
mean Toyota and other manufacturers too, not just Toyota, You're
chomping at the bit to get these students of all
ages that have gone to Bridge Valley through these technical
program They want the people and they want to put
them to work.

Speaker 6 (08:12):
It's right any really, when I talk to my friends
who have kids who are thinking about college, or when
I talk to adults who are thinking about career switching,
if you have any technical inclination at all, I strongly
suggest going through the Advanced Manufacturing Technology program. It's the
program that leads to the best entry level wages of
anything that we offer at the college. And they're really

(08:33):
great jobs, and the manufacturers are largely wonderful employers in
the region. So it's I can't say enough nice things
about them.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
You've done. So, you guys have been doing something called
mini grants.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
What's that?

Speaker 6 (08:45):
So one of the things we talked the last couple
of times you and I saw each other, we talked
about students who are using snap and just how much
need there is in the community, and that that's true
with students too. So we've started. We've had a number
of donors give us just small amounts of money, but
what that it can be game changing for students. So
we've had a number of students apply to our foundation

(09:07):
to say they need car repairs to be able to
stay in school, or could we just help them with
gas or food or utilities. And so we've started doing
mini grants for students as part of the Thanksgiving season
to just help them be able to stay in school.
We want them to get through the semester and be
able to start a new semester and be okay and
have their families be okay. So so far we've given

(09:29):
forty out to students and their average is about one
hundred and fifty dollars. But when you talk to students
who have received them, it just makes such a huge difference.
If you've had a flat tire and you can't afford
to pay for it, it doesn't matter if it's one
hundred dollars or a million dollars if you don't have
the money.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
Yeah, and sometimes when we think about doctor Sachs about
helping students, we think about, you know, the materials they
need in the classroom, and that's a big part of it.
But I mean, it's really a shame for somebody that's
wanting to better themselves, whether they're a young person or
older person or whatever. But they can't make it to
class for and so many things are available online. We
get that, but sometimes you do need that hands on
because when you talk about manufacturing and nursing, I mean

(10:07):
only so much of it you can do online. You've
got to have hands on. And it's a shame because
we hear it all the time. Well, they couldn't make it.
They had to drop out because they didn't have reliable transportation,
or because they couldn't afford their power bill, they couldn't
afford their internet bill, or things of that nature. So
it's a great program. You got Spring registration coming up

(10:29):
right We.

Speaker 6 (10:29):
Do if you or someone in your family is thinking
about making a change, or you're really looking to get
some new training or a new job. Spring registration is
going on right now, and I would really encourage you
to sign up. Our classes start January twelfth, so it's
perfect timing if you're thinking about having your life be different.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
All right, It's always a pleasure to talk to you,
doctor Casey Sachs, a Bridge Valley Community and Technical College.
I but don't talk to you. Have yourself a great Thanksgiving,
keep doing good stuff out there.

Speaker 6 (10:57):
Thank you, Dave, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy thanks Giving to
everybody listening.

want to talk a little Christmas. Shan's on again from
the City of salth Charleston joins us right now. Sean,
good morning and welcome to the show.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Good morning, thank you for having me today, and happy
turkey drop. Yeah. Yeah, that's all us, what you guys
are doing out here.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
You and I were talking about that off the air.
I mean, we don't do that's not why we do
it but for accolades. But you know somebody, you know
when you come in and you talked about how awesome
it was that. But you know, here's the thing, Sean,
it's just our idea. You know, we don't. All we
do is we just happened to have a nice circular
It's not circular. Rob will collect me or he'll correct
me on that we have a nice parking lot. Okay,

(17:18):
we provide that, we provide the air. It's our listeners
to do it. It's not us. I mean, we don't
provide anything but the space and the air and the time.
Our listeners are the people that come through.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (17:27):
And I just think anytime that you know, the community
that can come together and kind of help others out,
I just think it's a great thing and it just
shows what we are about in this state.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
One percent. I told the story to you off the
air and listeners have heard me tell. Two of the
things that really stuck out to me was in the past,
we had a lady that pulled up and she had
a five dollar bill and she said, I wish I
could do more, but this is all I have and
she handed us a five dollar bill. I mean, how
cool is that? And then did guys up in the

(17:58):
Eastern Panhandle that drove from the Martinsburg area last year
with a truckload of apples because they heard because Metro
News covered it too, and of course we have, you know,
a cluster of stations at Martinsburg. They said, we heard
you guys talking about it on the network and they
drove from Martinsburg with a box truck full of apples.
It just said, here you go. And then they said, guys,

(18:21):
you get to unload the apples. And apple apples are
heavy shoan. Yeah, when they're in crates, you're you're a
big muscular guy. We're a little little guy with a
pot belly. Like man. It's kind of kind of difficult.
But let's talk Christmas in South Charleston. I mean, I
know we have several different activities going on small business
Saturday Christmas parade, Christmas tree lightings. Where do you want
to start?

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yes, So we have a lot coming up.

Speaker 10 (18:42):
So starting November twenty ninths one business Saturday, we actually
have our first annual Christmas Market at the South Charsan
Farmers Market.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
We'll have live.

Speaker 10 (18:50):
Christmas trees, holiday decors, maple sir farm, fresh meats, eggs,
hot hot chocolate, cookies for the kids. And Santa will
be visiting every weekend as well.

Speaker 5 (19:03):
And that's all is a farmer's market. Yeah, what's your
hours on that?

Speaker 3 (19:05):
When do you do there?

Speaker 10 (19:06):
So for the Christmas market will be Monday through Saturday
nine am to six pm and then Sunday twelve pm
to four pm.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
Okay, And what on the did you said Black Friday
or Small Business Saurday? Missus started? What time we start
that day? Nine am, the same time, same time? What
else is going to be out there for? I mean,
because I mean I'm blown away, Sean, every time that
my wife and I are are frequent visitors to the
farmers market, I'm blown away every time I go out
there about all the stuff you have? What do you
get special for Christmas?

Speaker 10 (19:33):
So the biggest thing is a Christmas trees. Grit's Farm
will be supplying those issuears. Just shout out to Brad
Grit with Grit's Farm and then every you know, every
week and we'll have Santa Claus there to visit with
the kids, and the Grinch is going to make some
visits as well. And we got some pretty good events
scheduled there as well for the Christmas Market, and.

Speaker 5 (19:54):
We'll have to have you on as you know, throughout
the season because these things are always changing and you're
adding things, taking things a way or whatever. And you know,
how long has the Farmer's Market been open now? So
trust only since May weekend? Yeah, Mother's Day weekend. Overall,
how's the How's that?

Speaker 10 (20:09):
I have to get a shout out to the community
for really for really showing their support. I mean, it's
just been it's just been great. I mean, it's gone
very well this year for our first year.

Speaker 5 (20:19):
I mean, and it's it's really nice if you've never been,
take an opportunity to stop by because you know, you
got plenty plenty of parking there and and you it's
it's covered and it's and it is it's a you know,
kind of a cliche to say there's a little bit
of everything and something for everybody. Sean, but there literally
is a little bit of everything's under.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
It really is.

Speaker 10 (20:38):
I mean for our first year, I mean we've had
just just about a little bit of everything there that
most farmers' markets have, and and even more. And you know,
I think next year that you know, it's really going
to grow and more.

Speaker 5 (20:51):
That a text here that says the farmers market is
that rain or shine? Yes, okay, because you know a
lot of it's covered, you know, so, I mean the
majority of it is, so yeah, it is. It is
rain or shine. All right. So let's talk about small
business Saturday. You know, that's something that I feel very
very passionate about, and we try to promote small businesses
as best we can. And look, we're not hating on

(21:12):
large businesses, but these large businesses employee a lot of
West Virginians. We get that. But these mom and pop
shops are the ones that are more likely to make
donations when you come around and you say, hey, can
we have something for our church or a little league
or whatever, They're more likely to do that. And South
Charleston has got a just an incredible selection of small businesses.

Speaker 10 (21:31):
Yeah, I mean you know, in South Ross's are such
a divers diverse variety of eateries and shops and you know,
things you won't find online. Yeah, so you know anytime
you can shop local and kind of kind of like
I want to what I what I like to say is,
you know, small businesses that they're thriving than the communities thriving.
So I mean, you know, those tax dollars are staying

(21:52):
in the cities, you know, for the city's to be
able to make public and perment projects and to go
towards the city services. Because you know, South Rawston picks
up twice a week.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
I don't know if anyone around here that does that.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
That's what I've always heard from my friends that live
in South Charleston. They're all about it because they say,
you know, South Charleston as far as services go, I
mean just just can't be beaten. You guys just do
it do a lot there. But that's because of the
tax base that you have from these small businesses. And again,
whether you're looking for books, you're looking for music, you're
looking for as you said, the eateries, South Charleston's got

(22:26):
a lot of.

Speaker 10 (22:26):
That, yes, Yeah, And then you know, shout out to
the mayor too, because you know his his his biggest
thing when he first came in was to make South
Troston a business friendly place to come to. And you
know he's done so many things like the he you know,
he created the graduated tax system that they have in place,
which allows new small businesses to come in and sort

(22:49):
of lay that founda dation and you know, not had
that burden to pay one hundred percent of taxes right
at the gate, you know, and that allows for growth
early on and the longevity.

Speaker 5 (22:59):
Yeah, all right, let's talk Christmas parades and lighting of
trees and all that other stuff for Christmas.

Speaker 10 (23:04):
Yes, we have our Christmas tree light. The simmer fifth
activities will start at five point thirty. You can visit
with Sanna, get free cookies, hot cocoa, and then new
this year, we're going to do a lighted golf cart
caravan ride down D Street and all those proceeds go
to the Mattox Potter Foundation. So you can register a
golf cart through the CVB for twenty dollars or you

(23:26):
can sponsor one through through our golf course for fifty
dollars to come down on d street and ride through
the caravan.

Speaker 5 (23:34):
Right, and we spent a lot of time talking with
the family of Maddox Potter, you know mad Dog, you know,
just a just a great young man that was taken
away far too soon in his family. Has just gone
above and beyond to try to try to help other
families in that same situation. Yes, yeah, And so the
lighting of the Christmas tree? What time again?

Speaker 3 (23:51):
The lighting?

Speaker 6 (23:52):
It?

Speaker 3 (23:52):
So the drone show will the drone show will start
at six thirty.

Speaker 5 (23:55):
Oh you got to have the drone show?

Speaker 10 (23:56):
Yeah, yeah, and then the tree lighting will start up
price being around six forty five pm right after the
drug show.

Speaker 5 (24:01):
All right. We had a textare so will you be
bringing back the tradition of Santa arriving by helicopter?

Speaker 3 (24:06):
Not this year, but that may be some planes in
the future.

Speaker 5 (24:09):
Okay, all right, I mean at one point, these drone
shows just keep more and more popular and you're gonna
probably see Santa in the sky at one point. Maybe
Santa will fly drum yeah, yeah, yeah, it's all good.
So we're talking to shan Z again from the City
of South Charles about their Christmas stuffs. But Dave Alan
show on five eighty live Rightchet a part by Hustan's Pizza.
This month get a large eighteen inch Pemperoni pizza and
an eight inch chocolate chip cookie twenty three ninety nine.

(24:31):
Find your nearest Hustan's Pizza for delivery Dina or pickup
at Huston's Pizza dot com. Let's talk about the Christmas pread.

Speaker 10 (24:36):
Yeah, so that's going to be December sixth at noon
on D Street. So bring the whole family out and
come and celebrate the holidays with us.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
That is always big and all of our stations are
you know, always involved in that. And you it amazes me.
I'm usually either with our sister Station's ninety eight seven
a month and or I'm driving, you know, with whs here.
It always amazes me the amount of people that you
get in a small area. And you got to as
somebody driving the vehicles as all of us are got

(25:06):
to be really really careful too.

Speaker 10 (25:08):
Yeah, I mean, you know, safety is a big part
of it. We do have some bayer case that are
up that you know, prevents people from coming out in
the road and stuff. But it's it's our biggest event
end of the year. So again, bring the whole family. Out,
come out and celebrate with us.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
And uh, I know we're talking about small businesses primarily,
but of course I would be remiss. And last time
we had Mayor Mullins on he talked about a little
bit too. And that's the that's the the growth that's
going on with the mall project out there. What can
you tell us about that?

Speaker 10 (25:36):
Yeah, so kind of what you see now. You know,
if you drive by now, you got the Kroaga Marketplace.
They got the building up and they actually moved their
start of their opening date.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Up by a month.

Speaker 10 (25:46):
Okay, and when that fast now, it's going to be
towards the end of next May.

Speaker 5 (25:51):
Next May, so open up. Yeah, I mean they have
made the last time I drove through there, I thought
about that, I said, Sean, they have made amazing progress
on that.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (25:57):
Yeah, I mean it's crazy how fast they've got it up.
And then you also see there's some construction going on
now as well with seven other buildings I'm sorry, three
other buildings that will house house three different businesses.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
All right, and again we had an announcement earlier this
week about some high class chicken coming out there too,
so we're all excited about that as well.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
We'll have games.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
Yeah, I've never had it, but I hear they called
it what the article in the paper I think called
it the Filet Mignon of chickens. Yeah, so we're looking.

Speaker 3 (26:24):
That's what they call it. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (26:25):
I think there's only one in the state right now.
It's up in Morgantown, Okay, all right, so we'll be
looking forward to that.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
All right. So again let's kind of recap here before
we let you go. We've hit a lot of information
here about Christmas and South Charleston, and we'll have you
in the mayor on you know, a couple of times
between now and then, but hit the important dates again
in times just like it did.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (26:40):
So the Christmas Market will start on the twenty ninth
and run through the twenty first. The tree lighting it's
the Sember fifth. Activities start at five point thirty. The
Christmas Parade it's the Sember six at twelve pm down
on D Street.

Speaker 5 (26:55):
All right. And information available on social media.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
Charsting dot com website, facebook page.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
All right, Sean Zonia, it's always pleasure to have you here.
Have a great great thanksgiving you two hey, and remember
if you on your way out, if you hang out
out here, they're probably going to put you to work
out there, so that's okay, So all right, well good,
just tell them just I love to help. Just say, look,
I couldn't. I couldn't get out of there.

Speaker 11 (27:15):

Seasons are changing, the kids are back in school, and
cooler weather is on the way. But one thing that
always remains consistent is the car buying experience at Walker
Chevrolet in Nitro. You see, that's because Gene and Ryan
built their business the old fashioned way by making friends.
There are no gimmicks or games at Walker, just honest,
fair deals, and the process at Walker is remarkably simple.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
They help you find a vehicle that you love and
a deal that makes you smile.

Speaker 7 (29:51):
And don't forget, Walker is still buying cars too now
All makes and models are welcome, and they'll give you
top dollar for it, even if you plan to buy somewhere.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
But why would you.

Speaker 7 (30:01):
You know, it's good to know that in a world
full of constant change, there are some things that remain consistent,
and that some car dealers still believe in treating you
like a friend with a smile and a HANDSHAKEE head
to Walker Chevrolet and Nitro in the shadow of the
Interstate Bridge, just off the Nitro exit of I sixty four.
Walker Chevrolet making friends, one deal at a time, no clue.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
I just having fun with the Here we go. I
was having fun with Shock through ninety eight to seven.
A Mountain wild a wonderful classic Rockes said, I'd give
him extra points if he can name that particular artist.
That's the Charlie Daniels band. Yeah, New York City, King
Sized Rosewood Bed. It's the name of thats got to
tell you?

Speaker 3 (30:59):
If it was Uneasy Rider, you were thrown out?

Speaker 5 (31:02):
Can you can you guess who put that? I pick
out the own the bumper music for my show. Who
else is gonna do? Charlie Daniels before the Devil went
down to Georgia. Right, It's but I still miss the
wrestling stuff though it's still in there. It'll rotate from
time to time. I've got so you though I've got
the the old World Championship Wrestling theme on rotation. I
think I've got that, uh and I have I have

(31:25):
got Stark Stark Stark.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Hey.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Look who's here. It's Jenny Murray. Jenny, come on in,
come on in, Jenny Murray from V. One hundred. All right,
Annual Turkey Drop is going on. Do not fall from
setting on his lap, Jenny.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
I felt, Dave fell for that. What happened?

Speaker 5 (31:43):
I felt for the have a seat, Jenny, I fell
for that three times. I'm not falling forward again. All right,
love of Annuel Turkey Drop going on as we speak.
Rob Real from Superstar Country ninety six one k wus
Jason Coatrel's here, Jenny Murray from V. One hundred, shockly
from ninety eight to seven. Roberts, you're up first, uh seven,
and well we're already past seven, So until six this
evening here at our studios eleven eleven Virginia Street East.

(32:07):
You just make a little loop through our parking lot.
Hand us some frozen turkeys or some cash or a
check or we've got a QR code you can scan
if you want to do credit cards, but we are
putting turkeys on tables. We are feeding folks this holiday season.
Every family deserves a happy holiday meal, and we've already
had folks making that happen. If we're not over sixty
on turkeys already, I mean we just started at seven.

(32:28):
That's that's pretty good. Jenny Murray, that's pretty good stuff.

Speaker 13 (32:31):
That is good stuff.

Speaker 11 (32:32):
We did have a lady send us a text to
say I just dropped off two birds for you, two turkeys.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
See what she did there? Yeah, I know I like it.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
Big shout out to surf Pro.

Speaker 5 (32:45):
They brought us twenty twenty when Tim showed up this morning,
and lots of folding money so far this morning.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
It doesn't get any better because now Steve Animal's coming in.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
Jason, let's talk.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Let's talk about from your perspective house.

Speaker 14 (33:00):
This has been an amazing morning. Like like Rob was saying,
we've had car after car come around the loop either
give us some green handshake yeah, or drop off undshake
yeah and frozen.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (33:15):
We've been getting the bird a lot this morning.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Right now.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
Big shout out to our friends at Chick fil A,
Tom Menturn, Chris. We had them on the studio yesterday.
There they're not only feeding us, which we appreciate, but
they're also we We are giving away some free certificate
Swath supplies last to people that donate turkeys. Rob talking
about that. Every time you come through, we will hand
you a little card for some free Chick fil A.
Tom has always been a great partner with us, doing

(33:41):
lots of things like on ninety six to one k
WUS we do our free lunch Friday Hero Edition where
we get to honor folks and they are always Tom
and Tim and Felicia and Kayla and catering. They's all
first to jump on board. Hey we got a drop
event coming. Oh yeah, we're ready to go. We're ready
to feed you. So Chick fil A always great community partners.

(34:01):
Indeed indeed one hundred percent. Steve Animal ninety eight seven
a mountain wild, wonderful class and Crockets here. How you doing,
I'm good. I'm good.

Speaker 15 (34:07):
We've had some, like you said, some great green cash donations.
My friend Jean and Rick making sure they hunted me
down last night, like bring this to the Union mission
and where and where were you last night's team? I
was over at Chuckers.

Speaker 5 (34:20):
Believe I'll be darn Guy's blue waters, wet animals at shuckers, shockers,
twist my arms. Animal is an animal is a very
renowned mu magician. People don't know this. He can go
into any town in America and turn into a bar.
I have also found that he can make women disappear.

Speaker 11 (34:41):
Like mine.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
Seems well, we.

Speaker 5 (34:43):
Have fun, but again the bottom line is here, we're
trying to feed people.

Speaker 15 (34:46):
That's what It's been a great day so far, going
till six o'clock tonight, eleven eleven Virginia Street.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Here, it is going to be a good day. The
idea that we can goof around with our friends on
a parking lot is.

Speaker 5 (34:55):
Is it easier than Yeah? On kind of a raw
day like this, you don't even have to get out
of your nice warm vehicle, so especially you got like
the heated seats and the heated steering wheel.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
You just roll up and say it's in the backfellers,
and we will grab it.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
Had somebody roll up with it was five turkeys in
the back hat just a little bit ago, so I
think we're over sixty.

Speaker 14 (35:16):
The one lady that pulled in and said, hey, I've
got a couple of turkeys in the back, and we
opened the hatch and there was thirteen turkeys.

Speaker 5 (35:22):
Yeah, that's awesome. So we did one twenty seven in turkeys.
Last year, we did five thousand in financial contributions. We
would love to eclipse that this year. It's been a
rough year for a lot of folks and we're not
going to go down that shut down road and snap again.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
But it's been extra tough this year.

Speaker 5 (35:38):
So I would love to eclipse those numbers if we could. Jenny,
let me bring you back in here for just a moment.
Please please, We already did that, jo We already did
that joke. Please tell me that they have other females
out there with you, and you're not out there with
a bunch of ruffians. I know they're here somewhere, but
they're probably they probably keeping us in line. Who do
you think stept Us out just say so far. I
know Stephanie, our producer of Metro News Midday, was out there,

(35:59):
and I think Bobby's I.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
Was up there, bub bub bub bub and June.

Speaker 5 (36:03):
I hope we have some more people out there. But okay,
I'll go wrangle up the ladies. No, but but but
I mean this is kind of this is kind of
what we do around here.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
Yeah, we do.

Speaker 11 (36:13):
And it's uh, you know, we we absolutely I mean,
we're out there, but it's the people that come by.

Speaker 5 (36:20):
All we are doing is really is providing the time
and the space. It's our listeners that are doing all
the work. We're the pie pipers. Yeah, that's who we are.

Speaker 11 (36:27):
And what an easy way to help your neighbors through
you know, a great partner that we have and you
guys really do all the heavy lifting for us as
far as the distribution. But you know, we we know
people are out there and they're having a tough time
and this is just a real simple way to help
them have a decent Thanksgiving.

Speaker 5 (36:47):
And how does a distribution go? Jason Jason Wore from
Union Mission. How does that?

Speaker 3 (36:50):
How does how does the actual distribution go? He flies
a helicopter over and no, we just drop it.

Speaker 14 (36:56):
Yeah, three turkeys Saturday morning. Each family will receive two
boxes of stuffing, two boxes of mac and cheese, twelve
cans and drinks, and a dessert with a fifteen sixteen
pound turkey.

Speaker 5 (37:08):
Now, how do they get in the running?

Speaker 3 (37:10):
From me?

Speaker 14 (37:10):
In the last month and a half, we've been doing
sign ups.

Speaker 5 (37:13):
Okay, Thanksgiving distribution Okay, and that's one of the things
about that is is that always and whenever we do this,
this third year we've done this, I always can can't
get over the fact. Thank you, Jennymury, she's got to
go back to work now, Thank you, Jenny. I can't
get over the fact that you have such a quick turnaround,
you know, because we're collecting these turkeys till six o'clock

(37:34):
tonight and you're going to have them all boxed up
ready to go by Saturday morning.

Speaker 14 (37:36):
I promise you. We do this at Bible Center and
they have this down to an art. We'll start at
nine o'clock in the morning, they'll be done by eleven.

Speaker 5 (37:44):
Right, It's unbelievable. And again, like I said, Robin, you
know this. You you two we talked about this on
yesterday's show. I think you two have worked in other states.
It's not like this everywhere. It is not like this everywhere.
The giving that West Virginians do for West Virginians, the
efficiency Jason was just talking about. You know, I've got

(38:05):
a background in economics, so I'm always watching for, you know,
as little waste as possible. How can we turn things
around fast? How can we make things easy and just
the number of people it takes to get these families fed,
but the number of people it takes to come through
our parking lot and give us the turkeys and the

(38:25):
contributions we need to get those people fed. I am
never surprised, but I'm always astounded by what West Virginians
will do for West Virginias. I'm always amazed too, that
how quickly people respond. I mean, because we start, I
wasn't here at seven. I got here about seven thirty.
But at seven o'clock. What time did the first turkey

(38:46):
roll in? But actually before But enough about Bobbi's fry,
all right, but what time was it was before? It
was before seven. Yeah, we didn't even have the turkey
fully inflated. If you've been to our parking let you know.
But you'll see it when when you turn in. Yeah, Tom,
turkey wasn't even fully inflated yet. And we had the
first bird in the back of the Union mission truck.

(39:07):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (39:07):
That's what we do.

Speaker 5 (39:08):
Bobby Spry is with us right now. How are you doing, Bobby,
Good morning.

Speaker 16 (39:11):
I'm just trying to get warm from being out. It
is a little a little cool, but it could be worse,
it could be January collecting and.

Speaker 5 (39:20):
That'll be the next big thing that we'll be doing.
Talk about the involvement of the corporate into this, because again,
you know, our listeners are the greatest people in the world.
But anytime that we reach out Bobby to our corporate
friends and we say whether it's a Chick fil A,
whether it's Serve Pro or Applectic Power, whatever, they say, yeah,
sign us up. Talk about that well.

Speaker 16 (39:39):
I think we are lucky enough to have a lot
of clients who find the men's importance of giving back
to the community and helping where they can. So I
have a lot of clients who don't necessarily need to advertise,
but they always say, hey, if you have a community
event coming up, please reach out to us because we
would love to help.

Speaker 5 (39:56):
And some of those folks are here. I know Tim
from Serve Pro's ibums out here. Tim and I've been
friends for a number of years. I was talking to
Tim out there a little bit earlier. We have several,
uh several of our of our folks that are on
hand here.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
Rob.

Speaker 5 (40:06):
We were talking a little bit earlier outside about companies
don't have feelings, but people do. And these companies, these
big names that you know and that you'll hear over
and over, surf Pro and app Co and Chick fil A.
They're run by people, and in our case, they are
run by the same sort of West Virginians who have
that giving spirit to help our friends and neighbors. All right,

(40:30):
So it's going on till six o'clock tonight on our
parking lot eleven eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston. You
can run over, you know. I always give a big
shout out to Pigley Wiggily because they're they're the sponsors
of our hotline here. But that's not your story. You
can go to another one. Everybody's pretty much got turkey's
marked down at this point. They're flying right now. They're
they're flying off the shelves right now. What a foul joke.

(40:52):
But uh uh, But so go get a turkey, even
if you can't, you know, do a turkey. We'll take
cash donations, sweat through the ATM at lunch. Yeah, folding
money always works, all right, Bobby.

Speaker 16 (41:02):
Yeah, I just want to say, if every business owner
in Charleston dropped off just one turkey, we would have
enough to feed the three hundred families who have signed
up to receive a Thanksgiving meal. So I am challenging you.
Please don't make me call you out by name, because
she will. I will pick up a turkey or drop
off a check. Tara Martinez came up. She dropped off

(41:23):
a two hundred and fifty dollars check donation, and we
are able to use that to buy more turkeys defeed
families this Thanksgiving all right til.

Speaker 5 (41:29):
Six o'clock tonight, TJ Meadows, did you want to add
to this?

Speaker 6 (41:32):
He?

Speaker 5 (41:32):
TJ just walked in. I figured he wanted something. I
just wanted to see if you would acknowledge me. Everybody
else walked in and got acknowledged.

Speaker 3 (41:38):
I was just kind of.

Speaker 5 (41:38):
Curious if that's how it works. Well, I figured you
wanted something so but no, so he wants your chair
in about the twelve minutes. No, TJ. Let me ask
you because you know you're a West Virginian too, Bobby,
thank you very much. You are a West Virginian. You
know what we do here about giving back, It's just
something that's bred into you. I think you grow up here,

(41:59):
and if you didn't grow up here, we breed it
into you. Once you get here. It's just the way
that we are. We take care of our own and
I think we've always had to, right, so it's become
something that we've adapted to over the years. I'm gonna
be there on Saturday for the distribution with my kids.
That's something that we do every year and my kids
so look forward to that. And it's about the opportunity
to start to teach your kids. Sometimes folks are less

(42:21):
fortunate than you are. This is how we give back.

Speaker 3 (42:23):
This is what we do.

Speaker 5 (42:24):
We talk about it, we talk about it takes a village, yes,
and we really are living the village mentality still in
West Virginia in a way that other places I've lived
just don't. All Right till six o'clock tonight, TJE, we'll
be hearing from TJ here in a little bit, Rob
Real from a superstar country ninety six one KWS. You're
gonna come on a talk line, I think and also
Metro News midday later today. We're gonna make it squawk line.

(42:47):
Make it squawk line. Well, what are you gonna do
with the hot line? Are we gonna come hot buttered line?

Speaker 16 (42:51):
Or what?

Speaker 3 (42:52):
We'll figure something out between now and then or midday.

Speaker 5 (42:54):
I should say midday. Well, we'll come on with something.
I'm sure there's some joke left over. Jason Patrell a
union mission. We appreciate you, buddy, thanks a lot, appreciate you.
All right, thanks guys. Again, it's going on till six
o'clock to night. Are parking not eleven eleven? Oh by
the way, sorry, Jason, hold on, this is for you,
who do we make checks out to for the turkey
drop union missions, So you just drop those off here
and the texture goes on to say thanks for all

(43:16):
you and your team do for the community. So yeah,
if you want to drop a check bye to us.
There's a QR code available, which is in the story.
I understand. I think at WP metronews dot com. We'll
take cash, we'll take the frozen turkeys, whatever you got.
Thanks man, all right, thanks gentlemen. All right, he's no gentleman.
He's a turkey. He is literally dressed as a turkey,

(43:36):
by the way, and we're gonna post some pictures on
the social media sites a little bit later on so
you can see. All right, thank you everybody that's already contributed. Again,

like to know this? Well, I don't know, other than
contact an attorney. That's only thing I can say about that.
And I is that actually going on in West Virginia.
I'm not saying it's not not saying it is. I
don't know, but at my thing would be, you know,
you contact an attorney. You've got plenty of them around here.
Coming up later today a metroduce Midday with thirteen News

(48:41):
and Tonight Live anchor Meddamaran and Me. West Virginia Secretary said,
Chris Warner is going to stop buy Hoppy Kerchieval the
world at Traveler Hoppy Kerchievell. He has got a new
commentary which you can read out on the website wv
Metronews dot com. You may have heard it on you
drive in this morning. He is going to join us
on the show. He's gonna talk about the commentary on
talk line, but he's going to join us to talk

(49:02):
about the new State of Minds that just dropped on
Metro News Television. It's a sit down, long form interview
that he and Tony Careedy and others along the network
do and so Hobby's doing it this month. We'll talk
to Hobby about that. Jeff Jenkins is here with the
news form. Our legislator Chris Walters is going to stop
buying the show today, as are the folks from the
West Virginia Lottery. And of course we'll have more updates
on Turkey Drop, which is continuing now on our parking

(49:25):
lot here to eleven eleven Virginia Street. It's Charleston Metro
News Midday with thirteen News and the night Live anchor
Amanda baron Amy coming up at noon today powered by
Selango Law. Now on the local show Tomorrow. This year's show,
we're going to preview the area teams in the high
school football playoffs. Also, Angie gillan Water from the Ganaal
Charleston Humane Association is here with this week's Adopt Me
Please pet of the Week. And I mentioned earlier that

(49:46):
The Light the Nights gets underway tomorrow night over at
Gomart Ballpark, and so Jill Garren and Andy Shay from
the Dirty Birds along with Ben Silango are going to
stop by to talk about that. Coming up on tomorrow's show. Again,
says a Texter. Not one thing today political and Trump
derangement syndrome suffers just have to text into wine again.

(50:08):
Get out of the house, dude says It's could could
be a dude at I don't know. All I see
is a number lead's story. I'll get this in quick
at the website this morning, wv Metronews dot com. After
seventy years in business, Truth Pharmacy is selling out to Walgreens,
and I did reach out to Lynnfruth, the owner, and
they did put out a comment. She didn't respond, but

(50:32):
but they did put a statement out which you can
read that in its entirety at WV metro news dot com.
I'll say this, it is sad, sad to see them go.
And it's sad when any business that's been around as
long as Fruth Pharmacy has nineteen fifty two to be exact,
goes away, and you just lose more of your identity
when businesses like that go away. And look, that is

(50:52):
not a knock against Walgreens, CVS or any of those others.
Not I know they employ a lot of West Virginian
so that's not a knock again them. But in many cases,
the smaller businesses like a fruit pharmacy just can't compete.
It's it's it's sad, but go read the story WV
Metronews dot com. TJ. Meadows is here. How you do it?

Speaker 13 (51:12):
Man?

Speaker 5 (51:13):
Capitalism unfortunately, and yeah, you and I are the kings
of capitalism. I get that, but but some folks like
like Len and the folks of Fruth feel like that
there are things that are unfair about it and and
I had Lynn on the show a couple of years ago.
She was lobbying the legislature, trying to trying to even
the playing field, if you will.

Speaker 8 (51:33):
From the time it is born. Just like every human,
every business is dying. This is one of the things
Jeff Bezos talks about. Disruption is something that's always been
there today, but it's it's so much more prevalent today,
and it happens so much more quickly, so much more timely,
you know, the lifespan of businesses.

Speaker 3 (51:53):
It's unfortunate.

Speaker 5 (51:54):
I don't like it.

Speaker 8 (51:57):
I don't know that there's a better way. It's market efficiency.
It's going to happen. That doesn't help anyone who is
on the other end of it, but that that's the
way the system works. And uh, you know, the next
mouse trap will be coming after Walgreens and the larger chains.
I mean, you've got guys like like Cuban Cuban who's

(52:18):
out there with this cost plus dot ruban' Mark Cuban
with this cost plus dot com deal where he can
do it all online. I mean, it's always changing and
that doesn't make it any better me saying that, But
that's the way it is.

Speaker 5 (52:29):
Quick text pharmacies are about to sucks. It's the private
equity firm that owns Walgreens is buying out its competitors.

Speaker 8 (52:34):
Private equities buying everything today, they're going more to Main
Street than they are Wall Street.

Speaker 5 (52:38):
All right, what you got on the show today?

Speaker 8 (52:40):
Coming up ten oh six, we'll talk to Albert Wright
wvu mess the president and CEO on that acquisition. A
million nicely stops by. She's got a story this morning
on homelessness. The numbers are just staggered.
