Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yes, this is the Falcon speaking. Oh Nan, I'm glad
you called. Now you'll have to cancel me out tonight.
Angel I just landed a new client. Of course I
wanted to turn down his business, but no matter how
I talked, this boy insisted on giving it to me.
(00:25):

a lighter bodied oil to mix quickly and perfectly with
all other ingredients. That's because it's not just refined, it's
superfined by a special process created by Craft. Yes, superfined

wait to get acquainted with Craft salad oil. Look for
the bottle with the beautiful label tomorrow at your grocer's.
Get Kraft salad oil. Now the case of the Big Talker.
(02:04):
It's Sunday evening in New York and the trio huddles
in the rear booths of the Pelican Club. Reading from
left to right, they are Joe Greco, Danny Bell, and
William Palmer. And from the deference accorded mister Palmer, it's
obvious who leads this band, which is no more than
mister Palmer deserves. All you have to do is listen
and you'll hear some of the slickest arrangements.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Well, of course, the big thing in our favor is
the element of surprise. Weber's had everything his own way,
so long he won't be expecting any opposition.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
That's smart operating, Palmer. We pull the same deal at
Saint Louis.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Oh did you, Danny?
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Oh? Sure, sure? I just walked into the sky's place
and game twenty four hours to leave time.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Huh?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
And what happened? I was caught in four They play
awfully rough in Saint Louis, don't they.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Hey, ye let kitting.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Maybe this league won't be faced in the forum.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Course there's always that possibility, Gregor, Well, I remember one time.
Much as I'd love to hear you reminisce, Danny, I'm
I'm friends getting late.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Oh oh, that's okay. Just remind me to tell you
sometime about left.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
He wills it that I make a note of it.
But getting back to Webber.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
You don't have to draw me a die grandpama. I
got the picture already. This Webber gets the big gambling
played from the society ground and you wanted very much.
So okay, a little talk with the man.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
I don't doubt that.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
You're a brilliant conversationist, Danny. But mister Webber is also gifted.
And let's assume that nothing you say, moves him. What's
your next step? Well, we take over, you see, greg, Oh,
nothing baffles him.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
We take over.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Ah sure, it's a simple as falling off a log.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, wonderful. When can we expect this eviction to take place?
And now, wait a minute, part, don't tell me that
you have an answer for that.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Well, don't forget I'm a newcomer.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Oh I've got news for you, Danny. The people in
New York are exactly like those in Saint Louis. They eat,
they sleep, they breathe, and a little thirtier caliber slug
can stop all those vital functions.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
You mean you expect me?
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Uh huh, Well you're crazy, you hear that, Gregor? I'm
crazy here. I have voiced a simple suggestion.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Look, if you want someone to kill Webb, you better
get yourself another boy.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
What's wrong with the one I just hired?
Speaker 5 (04:13):
Well, first of all, Bama, never mind is phony. I'll
do it, Greco.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
This is not the army. If I wanted to volunteer,
I only thought that I don't. Oh, Danny's going to
come through for us, aren't you, Danny? Well, you see, Grego,
you mischarged him. Why the minute I spy Danny. I
bet he was a man of action. And you know me,
I only put my money on shore.
Speaker 6 (04:37):
Things in your big mouth, no matter how many times I.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Warn you, daddy, cut it out.
Speaker 7 (04:52):
Man, I'll cut it out when you learn to keep
your trap shut. We gotta leave Saint Louis because someone
called your bluff. But mister loudmouth doesn't remember that.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
And look, honey, that's water under the bridge. What are
we gonna do? Now?
Speaker 4 (05:03):
What are we gonna do?
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Well, you're my wife.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
You don't have to remind me.
Speaker 7 (05:09):
The only thing that keeps me going is the hope
that someday I may be your widow.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
I look, look, I suppose I talk to Parma.
Speaker 7 (05:16):
Did you say talk? That's how you got into this mess.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (05:20):
Now, now about this this man Weather.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, well he's nobody to mess with. Maybe we just
better pack and go.
Speaker 7 (05:26):
Oh no, no, no, I'm not doing anymore running. You
can do if you want to, but I'm sticking right here.
I like New York. Fine, baby, you stop wagging your
tongue and let me think.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Your shoe shoe?
Speaker 7 (05:38):
Wait, wait, wait a minute, I got an idea.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Oh I knew I could count on your.
Speaker 7 (05:44):
Baby, yeah, this, this Weber guy is loaded. Huh oh yeah,
Well suppose he was informed what mister Palmer was planning
for him.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Don't you think he'd be grateful.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, be wing all kinds of money to
him to get the drop on Palmer. I bet he'd
go ten thousand easy.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Well what are you waiting for?
Speaker 2 (06:04):
You mean? Yeah? But what'll I tell him?
Speaker 4 (06:07):
What will you tell him?
Speaker 2 (06:09):
You ask me that no lessen for Wether is the man.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
You should listen and if you can't talk him out
of ten grand, don't bother coming back.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yes, mister Webber, that's right, sir. My name is Stanley Bell.
That's a nice gampling layout you got out there.
Speaker 8 (06:42):
Oh yeah, very calm.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Well, of course it's not as big as a couple
of places I've got back home. Yeah, Saint louis the
greatest little town in the world, I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
I hated to leave, but I got a proposition I
couldn't turn down. If you'll excuse me, uh mister Bell,
Danny Bell, Well, I'm very busy. Get easy. Whether you
see this proposition concerns.
Speaker 8 (07:05):
You, I can't imagine how oh.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
You think I'm running off at the mount eh, and.
Speaker 9 (07:10):
That's rather an inelegant but accurate way to describe it.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Well, suppose I was to tell you that someone was
planning to knock you off.
Speaker 8 (07:18):
Now you have aroused my curiosity.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Unless it worth ten grand for the complete details, definitely,
Well the name of your party is William Palmer. Oh,
mister Palmer, Yeah, yeah, he figures I'm taking over this place.
Speaker 8 (07:32):
It just occurred to me, mister bello. How do I
know this is in the hoax?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
You don't know who you're talking to. No, Well, Palmer
and me are just like this. See you want me
to knock you off. It's lucky thing for you. You
got friends, have I Oh?
Speaker 8 (07:46):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Sure? They told me you were a swell guy.
Speaker 8 (07:48):
They were exaggerated.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yah, that's the only reason I came here.
Speaker 9 (07:51):
Well, I appreciate it, mister, forgive me. I have a
horrible memory for detail.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
What about that ten grand? I'm running a big risk,
you know, then you'd better start running.
Speaker 8 (08:02):
Oh, look, Webber, perhaps.
Speaker 9 (08:03):
You need something to send you on your way.
Speaker 8 (08:07):
Well right, I'm going, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Don't you worry whether I'll be seeing you.
Speaker 8 (08:12):
I doubt that, sir. I don't ever expect to hear
from you again? Is that understood?
Speaker 10 (08:29):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Come home?
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Hello?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
That jo Martha?
Speaker 7 (08:38):
No, missus bell rain in?
Speaker 4 (08:40):
What was this branch west?
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Oh? Oh, well, let's a standy blanchehere's my wife.
Speaker 7 (08:44):
I don't know Danny. She went out about an hourgo.
She asked me to mind the house.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Anybody call only a Joe Greco. Joe Gregor.
Speaker 7 (08:51):
Yeah, he said you should ring mister Palmer when you
got it.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
You want the number?
Speaker 2 (08:54):
No, No, I'll call when I get home. When when
Martha comes in? You're just what was that.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Second? Right?
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Well? Hi, ain't why mister Werry, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
I was expecting someone else.
Speaker 5 (09:22):
A little girl named Louise Mason.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Now do you know?
Speaker 11 (09:26):
Oh, I'm a guy who knows everything. Greco is the name?
Joe Gregor?
Speaker 1 (09:31):
What do you know about Louise?
Speaker 5 (09:33):
I know she had a date with you and she
ain't gonna make it.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Why not.
Speaker 11 (09:37):
Let's just say she was indisposed. You're gonna call her
way and you'll be wasting your time. I don't think
she'll answer. Believe me, friend, I know where ever I speak?
Speaker 1 (09:58):
All right, Gregor?
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Where is she?
Speaker 11 (10:00):
He getting so excited about what happened to us, says
new York broad daylight.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
What could happen?
Speaker 11 (10:04):
Look, crack, hey, hold on, My coad ain't gonna bring
him back. If you really want to, all you got
to do is say the word.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
What's the word?
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (10:16):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (10:16):
What?
Speaker 5 (10:16):
Yes? You work for Bill Palmer?
Speaker 1 (10:18):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 11 (10:20):
Did you read about this jerk Downy Bell getting himself
knocked off last night?
Speaker 5 (10:24):
Well?
Speaker 11 (10:25):
Well, the cops thinking boshed it. Why did you try
to reasonable the cop? Yes, you've been pretty successful. That's
why Palmer wants you to work for him.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Was it his idea to grab Louise?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Who says?
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Anybody grab me?
Speaker 2 (10:39):
You jump looking closer?
Speaker 5 (10:40):
All right?
Speaker 2 (10:41):
All right?
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Why won't you be released in a minute?
Speaker 5 (10:43):
I get your word, you go to work.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
How do you know I won't break it?
Speaker 11 (10:46):
That's where guys like us got the advantage over guys
like you.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
We trust you.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
I suppose I turn up evidence to prove that your
boss did kill Danny Bell and he deserves to fry.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Okay, let's go see Palmer.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
That's just what I was.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Going to say. Lucky, I get a cab.
Speaker 10 (11:02):
Wait, it's lighter bodied, it's super fine.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
It's Craft salad oil, the first salad oil ever offered

craft prepared salad dressings. Yes, there is something new under
the sun at your grocer's right now. A new salad oil,

Get craft salad oil tomorrow at Joe Grocers. Look for
the bottles with the beautiful labels. Oh back to the
Adventures of the Falcon twenty minutes to past. Since Joe
Greco dropped Mike wearing off at police headquarters and surprisingly enough,
(12:36):
Sergeant Corbett doesn't seem.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
Too pleased to see our hero.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Wow, if it isn't that high flying bird, the falcon,
what brings you to this? Nests Bill Palmer? You know,
for a second there, I thought you said, Bill Palmer.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
I did.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Isn't he boarding here? What do you want with him?
I'm working for him? They're kidding. I look sodd. It
wouldn't actually take that bumb for a client, or wouldn't they.
I've known you for almost ten years, and I guess
it only proves you don't know the real me. Maybe
I don't. They say everybody's got his price. Who's the
they that's always doing all the same alliot? Cal Palmer
(13:11):
Mike wearings hair? Look so I suppose I say, father, Mike,
you don't owe me any explanation, all right, as long
as you're going to be pig headed. Hello, don't come
in Palmer.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Well, see, Joe Greco got to you.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
He's certainly did. I listen to me. I shouldn't want
to waste your valuable time.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
What's he sore about?
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (13:33):
He feels I let him down?
Speaker 3 (13:35):
I hope I never know that feeling.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Listen to me, Palmer, if anything happens to that girl,
the ways don't.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Go hammy on me wearing. Nothing's going to happen to it.
She's probably back home now.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
And if I find out you killed Danny Bell, I.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Know you're going to let me fry.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
I'll pull the switch personally.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
And I hope you got a union card. How long
will it be before they let me go?
Speaker 1 (13:56):
And that depends on how much help I get from you?
Speaker 2 (13:59):
You get every need?
Speaker 1 (14:01):
All right, you didn't kill Bell? Who did?
Speaker 5 (14:04):
Mike?
Speaker 3 (14:04):
I'm going to surprise you.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
You have no idea.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Oh, I've got a wonderful one. What do you think
of Webber? Who hants Webber? I understand Danny had some
trouble with him over what I could say, but I
know Danny threatened to kill him.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Oh maybe I ought to have a few words with Webbing.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
I don't care how many words you have, just make
sure they're the right ones.
Speaker 9 (14:34):
Do you know what makes me feel badly wearing?
Speaker 4 (14:36):
No?
Speaker 1 (14:37):
What weather?
Speaker 9 (14:38):
It's only on occasions like this you come up to
the club. No, I can't afford it, even with Bill
Palmer for your client.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Now we're right back where we started. He thinks you
should be in his place.
Speaker 8 (14:50):
It's such ugly suspicions.
Speaker 9 (14:52):
Mike, believe me, I hardly even knew this, Danny Bell,
I thank you well.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
By any chance, would you happen recall if you killed him?
Speaker 9 (15:02):
Well, I might remember that if I had a motive
you did Danny threatened you, then I could plead self defense.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
You could well.
Speaker 9 (15:11):
Thanks for the advice, Mike. If I decide to take it,
I'll mail you a check.
Speaker 11 (15:23):
Come hello, sergeant, where you're doing hair? I brought a
lady around to see you.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
I'm not interested in any of your friends. Oh, you
will be in this one now? Are wearing this is bell?
Speaker 4 (15:34):
You want me?
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (15:37):
This is Sergeant Corbett.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
We've met.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
That's going on here.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
If you'll listen for a minute, you'll find out this
is Bell. Tell him the story you.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Told me earlier today.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Where do you want me to begin?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Right at the top of the page. Remember the time
of your husband's murder?
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Yeah, it was a quarter to ten.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
And where were you at that time? He doesn't need
an alibi?
Speaker 2 (15:57):
Why don't you give that mouth a rest? You haven't
recall where you were, missus Bell?
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Yeah, I was at the Pelican Club.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Did anyone see you there?
Speaker 4 (16:07):
Bill Palmer. Why that's right. I was with him from
nine to ten thirty.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
And if Palmer was with you, he couldn't possibly have
killed your husband. No, why didn't you tell me that before?
Speaker 4 (16:17):
He didn't? Ask Cunny?
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Is that as right now? Sageant? No, Well, maybe I
can find someone who won't be so difficult.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Come along, missus Bell, we'll go see the DA.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
I'm a side signed in Corbett, Corbett, missus Wilson of
the DA's office. A friend of yours was just around
to see my boss. Oh, Mike Querry, he's no friend
of mine, and he must be a good friend with
the chiefs. The DA wants Bill Palmer released, Sargon.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Hey Corbett, Hh, it's may. Can I give you a lip?
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Oh? Thanks? I'm discriminate about the kind of people I'm
seen with, meaning I'm not ha ha. I'll listen. You
really want to feel pretty proud of yourself.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
All right?
Speaker 1 (17:07):
As long as you ask, I do sure. I don't
know many private detectives who could do what you did
for Palmer. You're done right, But then the detectives I
know don't go in for perjury. Hey, listen, you in
your way wearing your blocking traffick.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Hello, mister Palmer, as I live and breeze.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
And you can thank me for both.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
All right, mother, thanks, That is why, don not quite.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
I like people to show their gratitude in a more
tangible way.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
I don't think I understand you, Martha.
Speaker 7 (17:48):
I was supposed to get five thousand dollars for lying
to the cops.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Oh well, I've come to the conclusion I made a mistake.
I could have had Joe Greco do it for nothing.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
Then you know where you would have wound up. I
saved your life, Palmer, and don't ever forget it.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
If I do, I'm sure you will remind me. Yes, indeed,
suppose I told you I didn't kill your husband.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Don't make me laugh, and we both know why.
Speaker 7 (18:14):
So you better dig up that money otherwise.
Speaker 4 (18:20):
Don't never try that again.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Oh you shouldn't have said that, Martha. I'm a gambler
and that's the kind of challenge that I can't resist.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Get it out.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
There's not pleasing you. First, you complain because I don't
give you anything. Then when I do, you yell twice
as loud. I don't know what I'm going to do
with you.
Speaker 8 (18:49):
Yes, is mister Palmer?
Speaker 3 (18:51):
In who wants to know?
Speaker 8 (18:53):
Haunt's webber?
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Oh what's on your mind?
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Webber?
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (18:58):
Uh, Palmer, I just thought i'd offer my congratulations on
your release. Thank you, Frankly, I never thought you'd make
it well.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
I had a good man working for me, my quaring.
Speaker 9 (19:10):
But he needed help.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Ah you mean Danny Bell's widow.
Speaker 9 (19:15):
Yes, and then to repair her kindness the way you did.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
What do you mean she.
Speaker 9 (19:20):
Told me the whole sordid story. She probably thought I
would be a little.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
More appreciative, and were you.
Speaker 9 (19:27):
I am ashamed to say this, Parmer, You were well
off hand. I couldn't see how that information was going
to help me. So now I'm afraid Martha thinks as
badly of me as she does of you.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
And I didn't believe we had anything in common.
Speaker 9 (19:43):
Oh we have a great deal.
Speaker 8 (19:46):
Let's get together real soon and compare notes.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Remember tomorrow at your grocers, get a wonderful new salad
oil for your homemade salad dressings, your cooking, you're baking.
It's craft salad oil, the first salad oil for home
use ever offered by the makers of all those wonderful
craft dressings. Craft salad oil is a lighter bodied oil
(20:18):
super fine to blend perfectly with other ingredients. Get a
pint or quart bottle tomorrow at your grocer's ask for
craft salad oil. Now back to the adventures of the Falcon.
(20:39):
Several hours have passed since the extremely friendly conversation between
Palmer and Webber, and now at the Falcon's apartments.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Oh, Mike, what are you doing here, Sergeant? I just
dropped by to apologize. You want Yeah, Louise Mason called
me at home, told me why you agreed to work
for Palmer? Oh why didn't you say something I would
have understood. I tried to. I know you did my forgiven. Yeah, sure,
(21:11):
corpor come on in. Thanks, you get join me in
a drink? Yeah yeah, and WF duty start pouring. Boy.
You know I never thought you were going to get
Palmer out. Well strictly between us, Sergeant. I was a
little surprised myself. Of course, Danny's wife's perjury didn't hurt
any What are you talking about? Oh didn't you know, Mike?
(21:32):
She was reached. You're crazy, she admits to herself. When
was this about a half hour ago? She's out of
her mind. I don't know why. She came to you
with that story. She saw her. She claims you wouldn't
pay her off. I wouldn't pay her all. Uh huh.
She says, you made the deal for Palmer.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
She's lying.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
If she was bribe, Palmer did it himself without your
knowledge or consent, Like they say, yes, Still, it's kind
of embarrassing for you, is it. You get Palmer released
and according to the law, we can't pick him up again.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
I know that.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Just we'd like get my hands on him.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
A couple of the boys downtown think you already did
know what you're babbling about.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Somebody put a slug through his brain. You die when
you hear who that somebody is. When you get a coat, Mike,
will you go like that?
Speaker 2 (22:15):
Now? Look, I don't know anything about Palmer's murder and
I know less about mother's perjury.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
You don't have to yell. I believe you, eh. Of course,
the opinions expressed here or my own, in a no
way reflect the opinions of my sponsor, the New York
Please Department. I listen, COVID, you got to give me
a break. What do you want?
Speaker 2 (22:31):
A chant at matha bell that can be arranged, and
I want to see Joe Greco.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
You don't think why not? He worked for Palmer and
Soda Danny Bell? Remember? And why you're right it? Pick up?
Hants Webber? You don't want much to you? I don't
think so. Maybe you're right. There are seven million people
in New York and you could have involved them. All.
All right, I'll get a call out to pick him up.
Speaker 8 (22:59):
I beg your pardon.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Is a sergeant court right here, mister Webber.
Speaker 8 (23:03):
I was told you wanted to see me.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
It's all right. This is Martha Bell or have you
two already met? No, I'll have you a Weber.
Speaker 8 (23:13):
I never contradict a lady.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
And this is John Greca. Eh.
Speaker 8 (23:18):
Likewise, I'm sure.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Listen, sergeant, what's the big idea?
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Yeah? What do we wait? Before anyword?
Speaker 1 (23:24):
The star of our shall thank you, Sergeant Cob. You
just made it, Mike. They were ready to walk out.
I don't know what they would have missed.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
Yeah, you're funnier than grout your marks and I.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Don't even wear glasses. You tired, Webber? No, just bored.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Well, we'll see if we can make it interesting for you.
Gentlemen and missus Bell and we are gathered here together
to determine the murderer of one William Palmer.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Here here? Would anyone care to hazard a guess? Oh?
Speaker 8 (23:51):
Is this an audience participation program?
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Yes, so suppose I pass among our contestants. First, I
have a question for you, Martha.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
How nice?
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Why did you tell Sergeant Corbett I was the one
who got you to lie for Palmer?
Speaker 4 (24:04):
You did?
Speaker 1 (24:04):
And where did all this take place?
Speaker 4 (24:06):
At your apartment the day before we went up to
see him?
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Well, that's a nice try, a jel, but it isn't
the right answer, because I spent that entire day in
Jersey on another case.
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Lessen.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Sorry, we're a little pressed for time, but don't feel badly.
You win at least a five to ten years stretch
for perchery. I'll greg o you're next, am I. Yes,
what were you doing at the time of Palmer's murder?
Speaker 5 (24:25):
I was down at the Pelican Club?
Speaker 1 (24:27):
How long were you there?
Speaker 11 (24:28):
From six to eleven thirty? And mister Palmer died at
a quarter? Firsty who told you that I did? Okay, Sergeant,
Now let's get on to mister Webber.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Must do well. I'll start you off with something easy.
Do you remember Danny Bell this lady's husband. Yes, may
I ask if you have an alibi for the time
of his murder so far back?
Speaker 8 (24:49):
Can you give me a little hint?
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Yes, it happened at nine forty five.
Speaker 9 (24:53):
Oh, yes, yes, well, if memory serves me right, at
that time I was at my club greeting my guests
and their names. Perhaps Senator Burns might remember that evening.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Why shoddy, Well, there was a.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
Little unpleasant that's at nine forty about one of his chicks.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
It was made of rubber.
Speaker 11 (25:11):
Well that completes the first round, and we have a winner,
have we? Yes, missus Martha Bell will a lady?
Speaker 4 (25:17):
Please Dan listen, you comic, what are you babbling about?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
By killing your husband and Bill Palmer, you have hit
the jackpot. No, yes, you win that famous trip up
the Hudson to sing Sing with all expenses on the house.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention Angel that trip is
only one way.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Hey Mike, Oh look, Sogeant, I'm tired. I need a rest.
I don't very ridiculous. We couldn't get along without you.
Why did Martha kill Danny?
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Simple to have fed up with him. He never did
anything right in his life, and when he tried to
shake down Webber and didn't get a dime.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
That was the final straw. What kind of a motive
is that?
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Also, the newspapers are full of stories about wives who
have murdered their husbands for less.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
And what about Palmer?
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Well, she killed him because he wouldn't pay off after
she bailed him out with her alibi?
Speaker 1 (26:11):
Did she dream up that alibi? Dale?
Speaker 2 (26:13):
But sure that was a smart piece of work, Smarter
than you would think, because Palma didn't need the alibi.
He was with Joe Greco at the time.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Why didn't he say so? Who would have believed it? No,
she was shrewd.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
You see.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
She sold Palma the idea that she could help him,
and at the same time she helped herself. I don't
see how well if Palmer was with her, and naturally
it follows that she must have been with him, and
if he didn't kill her husband, neither did she. Now
the thing that gets me is why you took this
case in the first place. I told you, Sergeant, one
of Palmer's boys abducted my girlfriend.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
I know, but that's no reason. What if you ask
me she's a lucky girl? You out of your mind? Well,
the way I look at it. Being kidnapped is bad enough,
but she'd have been in a lot more trouble if
she'd kept that date with you. You're not, Mike.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
There comes a time in the life of every homemaker
when she has to fix a dinner fast, and that's
when Craft Dinner.
