I don't know why you're having so much trouble, Steve.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
You make a mistake, mister Vincent. I'm I'm yeah, I'm

All right, Steve, would you mind giving us a little privacy?

Speaker 1 (02:53):
You want me? Mister Vincent?

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Would you take this gentleman for a little stroll? I

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Okay, Steve, you heard call me? Come on friend us.
You want that fresh air to go right through you?

Speaker 4 (03:06):
All right, Freddy, I'll.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Be saying your father's stay won't do any good. Okay,
mister Vincent? What's on your mind?

Speaker 2 (03:16):
You are Freddy night and day, and it's very flattery.
What do I owe it to? You're coming fight with
a champ? Oh that yeah? How do you think you're
doing against him?

Speaker 1 (03:29):
What's your guest?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
No? I think if you wanted to, you could take
Kenny he that kidden. I said, if you wanted to,
why shouldn't I? I think the crown would look real good.
I mee, I think a hundred grand would look even better. Oh,
meaning you want me to take a dive?

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Meaning just that you know, mister Vinsant, I like a
guy who don't beat around the bush.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
What do I get the dough right out of the
fun I don't do business that way? What would you
want it tonight? Okay, Freddie, you got your a deal.
I'll have Buzz bringing over to your apartment. There enough,
I guess that doesn't take care of yourself. Kid, keep
punching you too, Freddy, just be careful where and when.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
M Let me talk to Ace Richards please speak hello, Ace,
This is Freddy lame.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Oh hi, Freddy h this is strictly q T. Ace
en't know me to talk. Well. I'd like to place
a little bet on my fight next Friday night with
the chat how much?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Now?

Speaker 1 (04:54):
What you call a little bet?

Speaker 5 (04:55):
Look, if you don't want to day stock at somebody else,
I'll cover Freddy all right, laid a whole punch on
me to beat Kenny by a knockout.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
I don't like this business, Freddy, I don't like it
one bit.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
All right now, what's a matter of ruth Hee.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
Douglas did a lot for you. You can't toss him over
like that. You need it.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
I need Steve like I need a hole in my head.
He should have seen his face when I told him
we were through. I thought the guy was gonna drop that.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
It's not funny.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
I can't expect you to see the joke, Ruth. After
all your boats in the same boat.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
What's that supposed to means?

Speaker 1 (05:41):
The way you get off?

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Baby?

Speaker 3 (05:43):
What? Oh? I didn't realize this was my house.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
No, you had it right the first time routine went through.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Oh please, Freddie, I mean no mood for anymore of
your clowning tonight.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
What's the matter with all your people? Anyway? A fella
tells you something right away, you think.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
He's kidding, but you can't be serious.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Go on, get now, darling. Listen, are you gonna walk
a bap across you? I beat it all right, Freddy,
and I'll get so familiar next time.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
We need to remember it's mister lane.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Is that clock ride buzz?

Speaker 1 (06:27):
No, it's about five minutes slow, mister Vincent.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I've anybody turn on the radio if you don't mind
my asking how much dough is your syndicate laying on
this match? And I've it's at the right station. Yeah,
right there it is now, And in.

Speaker 6 (06:47):
Just a moment we will bring you this blow by
blow account of the first championship fight held in New
York in two years. It's a fifteen round match between
Dan Canne and the challenger, Pretty Lane. They're in the
center of the ring now getting their final instructions from
the referee.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Both boys look in great shape.

Speaker 6 (07:01):
They've just gone back to their corners. Then there's the
bow for the first round. Both fighters come out of
their corner swinging.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
The champ pinks for the left and then.

Speaker 6 (07:09):
Fries an the left, which catches Preddy going away right,
but Pretty dances back. Lane must feel that there's plenty
of time to show it.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
What am I saying?

Speaker 6 (07:18):
Freddy just brought up around house. It caught Kenny right
on the job, and now Lane froze the right and
the left. That's still another left.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Oh that one hurt.

Speaker 6 (07:26):
The champs staggers and Pretty moves in for the kill.
Kenny is trying to pinch now, but Lane won't let him.
Freddy brings up a right from the baby. How Kenny
is down, He's badly hurt. The referee is bending over him.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Just listen to that pound, Get up, Kenny, Come on
your bomb.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
Five, six, seven, eight nine, and it's all over, polks.
There's a new champion in New York tonight.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Turn it off and his name is.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Wow. What do you think was mister Vincent? What can
I say? You're sure you gave that one hundred grand
to Freddy Lane?

Speaker 1 (08:05):
I mean I dropped dead if I didn't.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Okay, buzz, It's all I wanted. Now I can take
it from here. Who's there?

Speaker 4 (08:26):
I'm my company?

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Who is it?

Speaker 4 (08:28):
I'll have to find out. Oh, Steve Douglas's surprised you didn't.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
I in no small way.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
You're sitting here there want to know any falk and
that's no easy trick.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Am I disturbing him?

Speaker 4 (08:43):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:43):
No, nothing I like better than an entertaining company at
three in the morning.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
It won't take much of your time. Can you get
me a gun?

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Can I walk at me? A gun?

Speaker 2 (08:53):
You know, a bang bang one that can't be traced.
Why I got a little exterminated jet I want to do?

Speaker 1 (09:01):
You're drum sure?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
I am.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Don't worry.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
I won't miss I figure you get real close to
him before I let him have it? Who are you
talking about? Freddie laying a new champ? But soon you
want your mind? I don't think so. The way I
see it, so many guys hate Freddy. The cops will
ever been on me, especially if you can get me
a gun that can't be traced.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
You're crazy.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
You think I'm kidding, don't you.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
No, that's what scares me.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Look, Steve, why don't you bump here on the sofa
and we will talk us over tomorrow morning.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
Nah, I'm gonna get him tonight.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
I think you better sober up.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
You mean you won't get me a gun?

Speaker 1 (09:36):
That's exactly what I mean. Let's swell pall.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
You turned out to be okay if that's the way
you feel, I got out of the front and the
hole that you're staying here, he's gonna make me. No, Steve,
you're leaving yourself wide open for a crack there. There's
no reason why you shouldn't get it. Good Night, Sweetena,
I'll see you in the morning.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
Well, baby, drink ups plenty more where this came from.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
You realize you're talking to the new champ.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Oh, I think you're wonderful, mister Lane.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Call me Freddy baby, all.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Right, Freddy, hadn't we better get back to the product.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
What's so Rush told him I had to go up
to my room and get my bags backed.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Well they Oh, sugar, you ain't going away.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah, I'm grabbing a twelve o'clock playing for Seattle. Uh
would you like to go with me?

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Well, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (10:39):
You better make up your mind fast, baby. We got
fifteen minutes to make the airport. That must be the boy.
Have been waiting for.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Him all right, just the second I'm coming. Well, look
it in Sergeant Corbett around here, I think, So listen,

(11:06):
you lame bring. What's the idea of getting me down
here at this hour? Well, I had a.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
Little news for you. I didn't want to trust the telephone.
Freddie Lane's been murdered.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
That's supposed to be a scoop. It's in all the papers.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Yeah, but the papers didn't say anything about you entertaining
Freddy's ex manager early this morning.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
But you mean Steve Douglas.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
According to our information, he went up to see at
three am.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
So so where's he now? You tell me?

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Okay, you're an elevator boy brought him down about five? Well, well, ma,
jury might think in as much as Freddy was killed
at six, there might be a connection.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Where's Steve now?

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Where as well? Ten Douglas in here? Hello Steve him Mike?
Oh look so good? But the home team does it.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
Oh, don't you worry. We love you ought to hear
in no time? Oh are you kidding?

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Look, Corbett, you mind if I talked to him alone?
I certainly they do. You don't think I'm letting you
along with a murderer. You're talking through your hat. Steve
didn't kill Freddie funny. You can't supply an alibi?

Speaker 1 (12:08):
All right, Steve? Tell him what you did after you
left my place?

Speaker 2 (12:12):
I walked around where I don't remember, you don't remember.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Has he been identified by the girl? What girl? According
to the papers, there was ACUITI in lanes upopping when
he was gun. You haven't found her yet. Well, let
me congratulate you.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
You think you can do better, and I certainly couldn't
do any words. Wait a minute, Mike, you got any
idea who this girl is?

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Maybe I'll be seeing you, Sogeant sure?

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Why don't we make a dake?

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Now suppose we meet it? Sing sing and to day
Steve goes to the chair.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
That makes it nice and definite.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
So back to the adventures of the fulcon.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
A half hour has passed since Mike had his little
talk with Sergeant Corbett, and now as we find Mike,
he is making the round.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Just a second.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Yes, hello, Ruthine, I beg your pardon. You don't remember me,
do you? No? I'm Mike Wearing.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
Steve Douglas introduced me one night after one of Freddy's fights.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
Do you certainly pick a strange time to renew old acquaintances? Well?

Speaker 1 (13:30):
I might have been around sooner, but I kept thinking
of Freddy's left jam.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
All right, mister Wearing, what do you want?

Speaker 1 (13:35):
May I come in? Angel?

Speaker 3 (13:36):
I have a feeling you will say all you have
to right there?

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Okay, who killed Lane? How would I know you were
up in his room last night when he was murdered?

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Now? Who told you that?

Speaker 1 (13:47):
It's just a matter of simple authentics?

Speaker 2 (13:49):
You were Freddy's girl, and that naturally followed you'll be
doing some celebrating after his victory.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
You beg you go back to school. You don't know
your addition. The last time I saw Freddy was two
days ago. When we agree to disagree.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Oh so you're another member of the club.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
What kind of a crack is that.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Freddy used to change girls as often as he did
his shirts.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
So maybe that agreement to disagree was all on one side.
And if he gave you the old heave hole. Yeah,
that would make you a very logical suspect.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
That's very amusing.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Now you've gotten overdeveloped sense of humor.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Maybe I have, But the joke's on you. You wouldn't
happen to know what time Freddy was shut.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
I would approximately six h five. I suppose you have
an alibi for the time.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
And it's supported by half the police force of New York,
meaning meaning at six oh five, I was in jail
for reckless driving.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
As ace.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Now, mister Vincent, wherebuzz getting out of that cab?

Speaker 1 (14:53):
All right?

Speaker 2 (14:53):
When the pulls away? Now, give him a chance to
open his dog. Okay, let's go.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
Hello as what It's.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
All right, it's only your best customer. Why do we
come in? Well itself relate Listen, and the longer you argue,
the longer the later it gets shut the doll buzn't
this is all about? I just want a little information.
Mike Quirring been around to see you where No, why
should he? He's working for Steve Douglas. He'll probably ask

(15:27):
you the names of some of the big losers on
the fight last night. So so when he does this,
I'd like you to forget all about the bundle, I dropped. Okay,
this mother, Not that I don't trust you as but
where do you keep your records? I'll tell you I
what's the word for sure? But wearing's awfully persuasive and

(15:47):
you might spill without meaning it. But of course, if
your records were destroyed, no matter what you told them,
there wouldn't be any evidence. Where are they?

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Would you like to know? Sure?

Speaker 2 (16:00):
That's why I asked.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Keep your hands off. I asked you a question.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
An the only way you'll get the answers over my
dead body. Well, that's the way you want it. That's
the way you're get it because I aim a Please.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Stir, make it easy, as he wants some more water? Please? Hey,
you are you better? Let me call a doctor. Nah,

(16:35):
I'll be all right. Make you feel up to tell
me the rest of it. That's all I know. After
Vincent got tired of bouncing me around and turned me
over the buzz A cute kid, that buzz. So you
told them where your books were? Yeah? Then what happened?

Speaker 2 (16:49):
That's all I remember. It must have passed out. When
I came to they were gone.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
I call you.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Wish you were able to do it sooner? How much
did Vincent lose on the fight twenty grand? Is that
I heard he spread it around bet around a quarter
of a million.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
In Las Vegas.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
And I still doesn't give Vincent a motive to kill Freddy,
Don't it If a gamber I ever tried to knock
off all the people he lost, dough on the cemeteries
would be loaded. The thing I don't understand is Vincent's
bad judgment. What do you mean Freddie figured to take
Kenny just the way he did, doesn't end up with
a smart money to be bet the other way? Unless
Vincent thought Freddy was going to take a dive, why

(17:25):
should Freddy do that?

Speaker 1 (17:26):
You had a big bet with me that he'd take Kenny,
how big huddered grand? And that proves it? They would
Freddy get that kind of dough. He didn't hit the
big time until four months.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Ago, and you'd think I think Sergeant Corporate might very
profitably have a little talk with Georgie Vincent. Why far away,
get off and Mike the Fourth, I don't know why
I'm humoring you in this because.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
You know I'm right.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Sergeant Vincent paid Freddy to take dive and when Freddy
crossed him he knocked him off. And suppose Benson has
an alibi. He probably has. Everybody has an alibi except
my clients.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
No, this is up flow. Where do we go to? Department?
Over there? Here's your mean?

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Everybody has an alibi?

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Accept your client. I'll tell you about that later. You
better keep your gun hand because if I know Vincent.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Yea, I we'd like to well. Well, hello, Ruthie, Oh shame,
that's right. You haven't met sergeant Ruthie Kent. She and
Freddy used to be closer than two minutes, so you
can understand my surprise.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
What are you doing here? Angel? None of your business,
that's Vincent. If we look, yes, I certainly do you
know that's not going to stop us.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
How about this?

Speaker 1 (18:44):
You better put away the gun.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Ruthie Corbett doesn't approve of women carrying firearms.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Stop it.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
You're breaking my wrists on baby, drop it all right?
Forgot and you can stop wrestling now. Oh that's a shame.
I just beginning to enjoy it.

Speaker 4 (18:58):
Well did you do that?

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Know?

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Did you do? What?

Speaker 4 (19:03):
Why do you think she didn't want us to commend here?

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Look behind that sofa? Did Yeah?

Speaker 3 (19:11):
I didn't kill mister Vincent I swear I didn't.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Who says you did? Ill? Nuts? Because I believe she
didn't kill Vincent? Well she didn't.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
I can prove it ha by the body, Sergeant, you
see that's not Vincent, that's his boy, Buzz.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
Miss can't. What have you got to say for yourself?

Speaker 3 (19:35):
I came here to see mister Vincent, and when I
walked in, I found that that man.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
What do you want with Vincent? Anyway?

Speaker 3 (19:42):
So maybe he could give me some advice. I got
frightened when you came around to see me before.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
But made you pick him as a father confessor?

Speaker 3 (19:49):
Well, I don't know many people in New York. I
heard Freddie mention Vincent once as being a smart operator.
He's the only one I could think of.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
And you certainly couldn't have made a worse choice. Why
do you think my for one thing, this clears my client.
And I'll say how Steve Douglas still could have killed Freddy
and she knocked off Buzz.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
That's not true.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
I am inclined to agree with her, Sergeant, I tell
you both these murders are tied up. How I never
thought to ask, but did you come across anything in
Freddy's effects?

Speaker 1 (20:15):
It might give us a lead, not a thing. I
went off through her stuff myself. What did you find?
A dozen slits? Thirty six? Another? Mind the habitasherie. Were
there any letters?

Speaker 4 (20:24):
Now?

Speaker 2 (20:24):
The only thing he had in his wallet was a
check for twenty eight thousand for the fight, and about
seventeen hundred and cash.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
Got any more ideas? Yes I have. I think I
can explain the whole thing now.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Well, suppose Buzz double crossed Vincent, great ad lambing, Well,
I totally it makes sense. Aace Richard told me that
Vincent only bet twenty grand with him on the fight,
So so.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
That's peenis to a guy like Vincent.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
I suppose he gave Buzz a lot more money to bet,
and Buzz stuck at in his pocket and promptly forgot
about it.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
How Ward Vince and find out, Well, it's easy. When
he got hold of Vases' records, he'd see immediately that Buzz.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
Hadn't bet all the dough he was supposed to. Wouldn't
that give Vincent the motive to kill him?

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Sure, there's only one trouble with your theory. What's that?
How bad a year's salary?

Speaker 2 (21:08):
It never happened that way.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
Now back to the Adventures of the Falcon.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Fifteen minutes have passed since Mike Wearing advanced his theory
on the murder of Freddie Lane, and nowadays Richard's apart
from Mike and Asia, are receiving the results of Mike's
effortything permit all right, path, thanks a lot. Well, it
was a bad guess, Mike. My first estimate, Who's right?
Buzz placed close to a quarter of a million bucks
for Vincent. We beg goes a perfectly good hunch down,

(21:49):
and you don't seem too upset about it. I'll tell
you the truth as I half expected. If the possibility
of checking up on Buzz occurred to me, it must
have occurred to Vincent too.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Why what are you going to do?

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Now?

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Start again?

Speaker 2 (22:02):
Isn't it possible that you've overlooked the best prospect of all?

Speaker 1 (22:05):
I don't know who Steve Douglas. Just because of your
client doesn't mean he couldn't be guilty. Oh.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
I realized that. But even granting that Steve killed Freddy
for revenge, he couldn't possibly have killed Buzz. He was
in jail at the time. And if there's one thing
I'm sure of it's that both murders were committed by
the same party. Yeah, I'm convinced that some member of
our little group benefited financially from Freddy's murder.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
I can't see who. Well, that's because your approach is wrong.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Now, if you apply the test of who stood the
most to gain, one person sticks out like the proverbial
saw thumb.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Oh you.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
Ive got the clowning Mike, Actually think I'm clowning. You
better get a bet down on yourself. Ace, you are
a sure thing to finish in the chair.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
I can't tell you how grateful I am.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Might I forget it?

Speaker 3 (22:57):
Ruth, I don't forget things like that. I want you
to send me a bill.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Look, you don't know me a dime. Steve Douglas is
my client. The fact that you were cleared is incidental.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Then, Ace Richards also killed buzz.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
H Yes, but that was just window dressing. The all
important thing was the murder of Freddy Lane.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
But what made you pick on Ace?

Speaker 1 (23:15):
He had the most practical motive.

Speaker 3 (23:16):
I can understand that now, But what put you on
the right track?

Speaker 2 (23:20):
Remember what Sergeant Corbett said They found in Freddy's effects.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
There was a big check from the boxing promoter and
about seventeen hundred cash exactly? Well, what's wrong with that?

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (23:30):
It should have been a lot more if Freddy bet
a hundred grand and himself with Ace.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
What happened to all the money you want?

Speaker 3 (23:36):
Hmm?

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Our common sense will tell you that a boy like
Freddy could never blow down until he had every penny
coming to him.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
But isn't it possible somebody might have robbed the body
after it?

Speaker 1 (23:44):
Although why did he leave?

Speaker 2 (23:45):
The seventeen hundred bucks the cops found was in cash
when I never met at burglar? Yet, who would turn
up his nose at that? So that rules out your
theory of the anonymous.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Thief and the answer must be Ace never paid him.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Off, only in lead angel the same way you gave
it the buzz.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Well, this has been very charming, Mike.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Am I going to see you again?

Speaker 3 (24:06):
That raises quite a problem. On one hand, you did
put up a big battle for me. You managed to
lick almost the entire New York Police Force single handed. Yeah,
you're quite a guy to have in your corner when
the going gets rough.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
And where's your problem?

Speaker 3 (24:22):
Well, I've just finished tangling with one fighter and one
such experience is enough for a lifetime good night, mister
wearing
