the Flaming Club. It's late Sunday night in New York
when Eric Dean walks slowly to the door of his apartment.

Half an hour's passed since Mike Wearing learned that his
planning apparently had tried to dash off in all directions,

in his chest. Now the Falcon is at headquarters has
tossed the confusion to Sergeant.

Let's get this straight. Dean tells the bartender he's taking
the train to Chicago. Then he tells the wife he's
taking the train to Palm Beach.

And when we find him in New York, he has
a plane ticket to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Well, I think I finally figured it out, Corby.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Yeah, I know, he really intended to go to Cannabunk
Port Main.

Now I'm not kidding Corbett. You see, I checked with
the weather Bureau.

They told me there was a bad storm in Virginia.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
Very interesting. There was also an earthquake.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
In Peru, so what so I checked with the railroad.
Dean did on the train to Chicago last night.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Then I suppose he got on a train to Palm Beach.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Well, I wouldn't know.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
Hmm gets clearer all the time.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
But if we can get that bartender to talk, it will.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
Yeah.

Yeah, he had a fight with Dean a few days
ago and Dean tried to fire him.

Oh so you think this makes the bartender so sore
he murders Dean and burns down the crowd.

the loss of a job.

I'm just trying to accomporen Dean's time. He left his
home around eight, turns up to be killed in the
club at two thirty, and what was he doing in
the meantime?
Speaker 5 (20:15):

Speaker 5 (20:21):
Oh great, now he goes to Phelly.

outburst proves Morgan knows about you. What do you minute?
Morgan didn't tell us missus.

But now that you've shown that Morgan knows too, he's
gonna have to talk.
Speaker 6 (21:02):

about the fire?
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Just this, Morgan, why did Dean object Larabie's idea? Come on,
don't look at Larabie. He can't hurt you. Well, Flaring
asked your question. Morgan answerm now, look, Morgan, we know
Larabie wanted to start a fire. We know Dean objected.
Now why did he object with me money in his
pocket too?
Speaker 6 (21:26):
He was afraid Larabee might talk, he said, Larabee can
never keep his mouth shut.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
I seem well, that does, it does? Why why are
we trying to prove Dean's motives? Martyr for what for
starting the fire? Where you mean Dean started the fire? Yes,
you see, Dean was afraid to let Larabee know that's
what he intended to do.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
Yeah, so he next Larabe's plan.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
But then he hired me to tell Larabie so that
I'd be a witness when the fire started. That Larabie
had nothing to.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
Do with it.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
And Dean hops a Chicago train, stays on it just
long enough to establish his presence, and slips off the train,
probably somewhere around Philly, and flies back to New York.
Speaker 5 (22:05):
I get it. He figures to start at the fire,
then hop a plane to Pittsburgh and slip back on
the train there.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
That's right. That way, both partners have an alibi for
the fire.
Speaker 5 (22:13):
Clara, he catches Dean at the fire and kills him.
That's a lie.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Why would I kill him if he's doing what I wanted. Well,
he's got a point, Corbett.
Speaker 5 (22:21):
Maybe he wanted all the insurance from South fin out.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Now, well, if you really want to know, don't ask clarity,
ask Morgan me why me? Because Morgan the other one
who killed Dean, aren't you?
Speaker 5 (22:47):
Yeah? You were right wearing?
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Well, wipe your eyes, Corbett. Maybe I'll pull a boner
next week.
Speaker 5 (22:54):
Morgan confessed he caught Dean starting the fire, and Dean
threatened to frame him. He was gonna use that row
they had when he tried to fire Morgan as a
motive and claimed Morgan started the fire for his vand.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Claraby and Dean would have Alabi and that would leave
Morgan holding the match.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
Right, This panicked Morgan and he killed Dean. Now there
it is, wearing. I'll just run along.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Oh wait, wait, wait, wait, wait a minute, Corbett. We're
kind of a straight man, are you. Uh you haven't
asked me how I knew Morgan was the murderer. All right,
go ahead, Well, Dean told his wife he was going
to Palm Beach, saying that's right.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
I forgot about Palm Beach and was.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
So to Dean when he heard about the storm in Virginia.
His original plan apparently was to work his Alabi in
a Palm Beach train, but bad weather made it risky
counting on a plane to get him back to the train.
Speaker 5 (23:43):
So he switches to a Chicago train.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
That's right, and Morgan said, Dean told him he was
going to Chicago, and Dean left the club at six,
and Morgan claimed he hadn't seen him again. Still, when
Dean left home at eight, he told his wife he
was going to Palm Beach, so he hadn't switched plans
by eight, which means Morgan was lying. He must have
seen Bean again after eight.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
Boom, all right, wearing. Do you feel better now that
you got that off your chest? Oh?
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Yeah, it's much better, corpord. Thanks, that's good wearing.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
You need something to cheer you up?
Speaker 1 (24:13):

You will when I tell you. Morgan is confessed with
the murder, but he still denies tipping off flowerby about
you telling him, so it looks like it was just
your own bungling a nightmare
