Speaker 1 (00:03):
Our friends Joseph pot thank you so much for going
us from the Dallasfortian News and also letting us know
that it's only sixty five degrees over there right now.
Oh it's so dark. It's like forty degrees in the
studio today. I don't get it. I don't get it.
But so some other news and notes. Obviously we're seeing
this move for Project Marvel. Shane, I bring up Project

(00:26):
Marvel all the time. Yes, you do here in San
Antonio as because you care. I care, and I care
so much that I would like to read some headlines
for us in this last segment because I like to
care that some people are actually listening to the show.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
I mean, can we agree that whenever like the New
State and everything like that gets built, that the one
thing they need to change. Well, I guess the biggest
thing they definitely change about the new Arena is any
stuff around the arena.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Literally, the frost is in the middle of a parking lot.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
I get it. And there's nothing. And you know what,
the city failed us. Before the city he promised us
that they would develop the east Side and they didn't
do it. I'm very passionate about that because they call
it the East Light side. The thing is is that
we're gonna have an arena down there, ye right, And
it's gonna host the Rodeo, it's gonna host probably UYL Championships,
it's gonna host a lot of things. But what it
did not do it did not help develop the East Side.

(01:19):
There was nothing to do there after the Spurs game
except for get out of there and go back to
your side of town or wherever you came from. There
was no entertainment value. You go to other arenas in
any city and they've got them right there.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Have you ever been to Dallas like they have all
their stadiums in this and this and this whole area
where the Arrangers play, the Cowboys play, and the and
the Mavericks play right all in this little stretcht and there,
and there's stuff to do around there.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
And again, this is what we want to do for
the city. If you know about Project Marvel, you know
that this is going to be golden It's our golden ticket.
It's prospers, NBA All Star Games. Oh in the Almodome,
which by the way, we own, and everything that we
go in there and use is money towards the city.
It's not like we're you know, not there. It's like

(02:05):
buying a home, Shane, you like own the home. We
own the Alamodo, So we can do whatever we want to.
If you want to do a you know, a rebuild
or a reproject in it, go ahead and spend the money.
That's what they want to do. They want to put
a hotel down there. They want an arena, a hotel,
they want an atmosphere. So the Spurs this week put
out their chess pieces. Because remember I played chess, not checkers,

(02:26):
and so did the Spurs. They said, hey, we'll put
one billion towards this.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I can't imagine're playing chess, though I.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Do play chess. By the way, fun fact, are you
ready fourth grade chess champion City of San Antonio?

Speaker 2 (02:36):
How many people were competing? Like three a lot? Like
two hundred two hundred people watching? You could be the
three other people.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
You know, you don't learn on my glory. Okay, I mean, well,
what do you think of that with the Spurs to
make that kind of move. Is that a good thing?
Because I think some people are concerned.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
It's a good move just because I think the Spurs
recognize that too many people in San Antonio are too
far beyond they recognizing that this is a good thing.
Like so many people want things to stay the same,
but they want more at the same time, which is oxymoron.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
In order to grow, sometimes you have to tear stuff down.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I agree. Now here's the thing. We have a newly
elected mayor and again here's my invite. Again, I would
like Gina Jones of San Antonio come on the show
because I would like to discuss Jones, I would like
to discuss this move. I would like to discuss this
project because this project is huge for the city of

(03:29):
San Antonio. Because here's the thing, right, San Antonio, what
does it do? Because every city does what Shane, they
grow up right, but San Antonio does they go out right.
So San Antonio has always been this city that we
all live Holotis, we all live fair Oaks, we all

(03:51):
live Bernie, we don't live downtown. Here's our city trying
to grow. And I get our history, love our history
to death.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
You know, hey, it's possible to honor your history. But
except the future.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
That's what I need her to know.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
That the city that I think, because Austin did the
exact opposite. They pretty much said like, forget the past,
We're moving on to the future, which is the exact
opposite end of the spectrum. The best city I've seen
an example of honoring the past but embracing the future
has been Houston. Have you seen you said they've expanded
their downtown. They've they've they've renovated theirselfs.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
I was down there for the for my uh about
to say, son, my daughter's volleyball tournament, and I was impressed.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Your daughters know about the sun.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
They don't know about them, don't say anything yet, but
I was impressed by it. But yes, downtown needs to grow. Yes,
the Tower of Americas. I've grown up here, dude, in
this city downtown.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Its just.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
It's so frustrating because yes, it's gonna cost money. We're
gonna have a land bridge that goes across two eighty one, right,
I mean, we're gonna do everything that's really really cool.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
The city deserves more.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Gross and by the way, the minor League, I think
it was I forget said sold their land. This Triple
A ball club downtown.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Because have you ever been to an Express game? I've
been round rock about Austin.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
I've been wanting to go because I've heard that ballpark
is really all.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
The ballpark is fantastic.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
It literally is like the if it had like a
more outfield Seaton, it would look more like a major
league stadium. Just because they had like a whole entertainment
center on the right field. It's really really nice. They
host They host both college games and Texas School championships there.
San Antonio is like, could easily have something like that.
We could, but it stops.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
And I'm not just saying that Gino Ortiz Jones is
the reason, right, I'm not saying that. I'm not pointing
the fingers. I have a mic because I want to
discuss this. It's an open form. Former Ron Nurenberg, former
mayor of Ron Niurenberg, has been on this show. He's
a friend of the show. In fact, he educated the
city of San Antonio about the Outdome because people were saying, well,

(05:53):
why do we do this? Why is this? And he
educated he wanted sports in San Antonio. Okay, the clear
and bottom line, what makes money for a city Sports, sports, entertainment, entertainment,
sports stuff, entertainment stuff. If we don't do that, we're
just gonna become a history stop for people. Yes, I
get it. The river Walk's amazing, trust me, it is

(06:13):
if you follow in it. By the way, just stand up.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
We can't be the only major city that has one
professional team and nothing to do. As Salt Lake City
has two professional teams, Pittsburgh has three, Milwaukee, Nashville has two,
and there's a lot of stuff to do in Ashville
because they renovated that city as well.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
But watch out for Oklahoma City because guess what if
we don't do anything like that, they're soon going to
have multipurpose sports. I mean, they have a good following
in Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
City, could potentially get an MB expansion team that's been
talked about.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
I mean, but I think some people say, well, nobody
wants to come to San Antonio. Nobody doesn't want to
come to San Antonio because we're not gonna build anything. Now,
this would be a big sexy attraction.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
We're not tearing down the Alamo.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Yeah, we're not tearing down the Alamo. We're not doing
anything like that. But again, I always offer this on
this show. Gino Artist Jones love to have you on
the show. I think that it would be something that
we should discuss this project Marvel because it is huge
and of course that huge move this week was the
Spurs moving their night onto G seven. So now the city,

(07:14):
it's up to you, So one hour down, one hour
to go. Coming up next on the Fanatics, we talk
a little college football right here on ticket seven sixty
