Welcome GCBN members or even if you're not a member,
Welcome to the Friday the Noon Nugget, the Friday New Nugget.
(03:03):
My name is Jason Davis aka mister Fortifi. I'm an author,
speaker and coach, and I helped mission driven people prioritize
their faith in the marketplace. I've done a few Friday
New Nuggets in the past, and I'm very honored and
excited as always for Beth and the team to invite
(03:24):
me to be a Friday Noon Nugget speaker. So as
I was praying about what to talk about today and
also trying to make sure I'm in alignment with the
theme that we have for GCV in this year, stand
(03:46):
stand and I love how Beth always has powerful acronyms.
The s seek, the Savior in solitude, the tea transforming truth,
Trump's temptation, the a anointed and appointed for the assigned,
and to nurture and normalize God's nature within. And then
the deed discerning, devoted, diligent, discipline, daring and dynamic and delivering.
(04:13):
As I was thinking about that, I got this imagery
and I don't know why, which usually it's the Holy
Spirit because he just comes out of nowhere. And I
got to thinking about speakers, entertainers and presenters, and so
the Holy Spirit started highlighting to me the preparation that
(04:36):
it takes and to get ready for a performance. And
so the thing that kept coming to me was a
mic check. And I'm like, Lord, what like mic check?
What is that? Why? And then he gave me the
title mic check five Keys to Walking in your Kingdom Assignment.
(04:59):
It's gonna be a little little different because I know
what you're thinking, What in the world does the mic
check have to do with my kingdom assignment? I'm glad
you asked. I wondered the same thing, and so the
Holy Spirit highlighted to me that the very answer to
that question. I started looking up what actually goes into
(05:24):
a mic check? Right? Testing testing one too? What actually
goes into a mic check? Well, first of all, you know, speakers, musicians, DJs, entertainers,
they all do a mic check, testing testing one to
mic check one two, one two. Every desires, every speaker, entertainer, DJ,
(05:47):
whoever it is that's on stage, small, big medium, they
all desire getting a reaction, a response from the audience
and applause and what people say, Ah man, the kids
these days, Oh man, that's bars or that's a bar,
you know, doing a mic drop. And so speakers, entertainers
(06:12):
and musicians they set up these these moments, these catalyst moments.
Sometimes in speaking we call it a payoff statement or
a big idea, a central theme, the bottom line, the
call to action, the punchline. Everybody wants that, but before
you get to that point and the performance, got to
(06:35):
do a mic check. So the purpose of a mic
check is it helps ensure the microphone and the audio
system are optimal or performance. I'll say to it again,
it helps the audience, sorry, not the audience, the well,
(06:55):
it's for the audience, but so that the audience can
have an optimal experience. A mic check ensures that the
microphone and the audio system are optimized so that you
can have that great performance. And a mic check has
five parts volume checking the volume, checking for clarity, secking
(07:20):
for interference, checking for balance, checking for placement. You say
that again, because that's what we're going to step through
and we're going to talk about how a mic check
ties in with your kingdom assignment. A mic check includes
checking for volume, checking for clarity, checking for interference, checking
(07:42):
for balance, and checking for placement. Here's the big idea.
I know I talked to you about it and now
I'm giving you one. Here's the big idea. A mic
check from a spiritual perspective is a heart check. What
a mic check is to a speaker is what a
(08:05):
heart check is to a believer. I'm all at that
sit for a second, a mic check is a heart check.
What a mic check is to a speaker is what
a heart check is to a believer. Let's talk about
(08:26):
the first aspect of a mic check. Volume. By definition,
volume is is the mic too loud or is it
too quiet? You've all seen and been at a performance
or an event, but the mic is so loud or
it's too quiet, and you're like, oh, it's either oh man,
it's too loud to turn it down, or it's not
(08:48):
loud enough and you're trying to lean in, you're straining.
I can't hear what they're saying. So it is with
our kingdom assignment, the wisdom when to be quiet, when
to be loud, turning up the volume on things like
character in a world where harder, better, faster, stronger, dog
(09:13):
eat dog is the way to do business, the way
to move through life. So the wisdom of when to
be quiet and when to be loud, how do we,
just like in a mic check, how do we make
sure how do we adjust the volume in our own life?
And good character is one of the ways we do that.
(09:34):
You see, good character doesn't make the front page, but
a lack of it will just look around at what's
happening in the world and even within our country. Good
character very rarely makes the news, but bad character, or
the lack of it, certainly makes the front page. Proverbs
(09:56):
twenty two to one. A good name is more desirable
than great riches, to be esteemed as better than silver
or gold. Proverbs, Chapter twenty two, Verse one. Let's check
the volume in our life. Do we need to adjust
(10:19):
the volume? Do we need to turn something up? Do
we need to turn something down. It's the first part
of a mic check. The second part of a mic
check is clarity. Clarity. When you're doing a mic check,
you're checking for distortion. Is the microphone muffled? Am I clear?
So volume? Is it too loud to quiet? Clarity? Is
(10:41):
is it clear? Is it muffled? Distorted? Same thing. You've
been at a performance. You've been at a show, or
you've heard a mic that wasn't clear if it was distorted,
and once again it just all of these caused the
response from the audience. He causes your face to wrinkle. Look,
(11:02):
So here's the thing with clarity, back to the mic check,
the heart check. Can people understand what I'm saying? Can
people understand what you are saying. To be unclear is
to be unkind. Chaos exist where there's a lack of clarity.
(11:24):
Chaos exist where there's a lack of clarity. So the
question I have for you, brothers and sisters, is is
there an opportunity to tweak what I'm doing and partner
with the Holy Spirit, to partner with God, to partner
with the Lord Jesus Christ. And maybe I need to
(11:45):
make an adjustment. Maybe I'm not being clear, I'm maybe
I'm floating too much in the gray area. How do
I ensure I have clarity? One of the best ways
is prayer. I heard a leader say this one time.
If you spend most of the time in the throne room,
(12:05):
the other rooms you end up in have a better
chance of flourishing. If I spend more time in every
other room, but the throne room, flourishing may not be
as expected. And so prayer is a great way. And
the apostle Paul and Ephesians Chapter one, verse seventeen and
(12:26):
eighteen that the God of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the
Father of Glory, may give you the spirit of wisdom
and revelation, and the knowledge of him. Having the eyes
of your heart enlightened, that you may know what is
the hope to which he has called you, and the
riches of his glorious inheritance in the Saints. We don't
(12:50):
even have time to unpack all of that, but I
can tell you this was a prayer at Ephesus that
the Apostle Paul made, praying for a spirit of wisdom
and revelation in the knowledge of God, and then having
the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know
(13:11):
what is the hope to what you'd called you to
ultimately heavenward, but also in your kingdom assignment. Everybody has
a purpose and a plan, and that clarity comes from
the Holy Spirit. So we have volume, we have clarity.
The third part of a mic check is interference. Interference.
(13:34):
By definition, interference is buzzing or humming. So we got
too loud to quiet, we've gotten distorted, muffled. Now we've
got is they're buzzing and the humming. And now, as
a member of the audience, that's interfering with the show,
and I don't like that. That's not a great performance.
(13:56):
Whether I'm at a concert or some type of indear.
We don't want to hear buzzing and humming coming from
the mic. Just like interference distracts from a good performance,
there are things that try to interfere with carrying out
our kingdom purpose, namely at the top of the list.
(14:19):
I know we're not used to talking about sin in
the church, whether that's your local church or the big
community to church, but it is the top interference, and
Hebrews twelve one highlights that. Therefore, since we are surrounded
by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw
(14:42):
off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,
and let us run with perseverance the race marked out
for us. Let's run with perseverance for the race marked
out for us. But there are things, things that are
hinder and then there's sin that entangles, and that's what
(15:05):
we have to cast off and throw off and make
sure that we are repenting and asking for forgiveness and
turning away from those things that interfere with our kingdom call.
So we have volume, we have clarity, We have interference.
Number four. Balance balance with regards to a mic check,
(15:32):
balance involves how well does the sound or the mic
blend with the acoustics of the room, how well do
the mics blend with the video and the music and
the background noise. Here's the thing about balance in our life.
Do we have an and mentality? Do we have an
(15:55):
or mentality? Are we? It's gotta be black and white
and we live in a world full of gray and
we need wisdom to split the difference. This world is
becoming more and more gray by the hour. It feels like,
so have a and mentority mentality, not an ore mentality
(16:21):
instead of either or. A lot of times two things
can be true and typically are, but we're so caught
up and biased in our own school of thought that
we can't see the other options that are available. A
third option is always available if we open ourselves up
to it. You see, here's an example. Tunnel vision. Tunnel
(16:44):
vision is great for focus. If you think about like
the Kentucky Derby. You see the horses they got the
doggles on, and it's great. Tunnel vision is great for focus,
not so great for awareness. To see that horse in
the context of a race for the Kentucky Derby, they
could see straight ahead because they just need to be
(17:05):
focused on the finish line. So in that context, tunnel
vision is great. But then you take something like the
football field. Tunnel vision is bad or poor for a
quarterback because it means that they're locking in on their
receiver and they're telegraphing where they're going to go with
the ball, and now the defense has a chance to
intercept the pass and prevent the offense from advancing down
(17:29):
the field and scoring. So tunnel vision good and then
Kentucky Derby not so good for a quarterback. Qbs need
QB vision seeing the whole field instead of just I predecided.
I'm a throat of this receiver because I'm I'm selfish
or I'm prideful, and I can make that throw and
I don't care what the defense is doing. That's what
(17:50):
I'm gonna do. Can't be so locked in. We gotta
have balance. The key is flexibility and adaptability sometimes doesn't
mean equal, especially from a time management perspective. God himself
as supernatural balance. We see God is a god of
(18:12):
justice and righteousness, not justice or we live in a
society where people's views tend to float toward one or
the other. Psalm eighty nine fourteen talks about how God
is a god of justice and righteous. In fact, his
throne is established that's what Psalm eighty nine fourteen. Justice
(18:34):
and righteousness are the foundation of my throne Psalm eighty
nine fourteen. Then we have in Romans eleven twenty two. Behold,
therefore the kindness and severity of God, God himself has balance.
We can't put him in a box. And there's a
lot of scriptures that talk about the different dimensions of God.
(18:55):
They are different names for God. Jehovah Ji ra Are, provider,
Jehovah raf healer. There's different God himself has supernatural balance,
and so as humans we have to get out of
our bias and get out of our tunnel vision so
that we can carry out our kingdom assignment. Are we
(19:16):
emphasizing gifts and charisma but not diligence and character. It's
food for thought. Balance is important number five, So we
have volume, clarity, interference, balance, and last, but not least,
placement by definition, and a mic check. Placement is the
positioning of the mics so that performance is optimized. You
(19:40):
might see and forgive me all the tech folks, all
the different the boom mics and the hanging mics and
the standalone microphones, all of that, especially when they're all
in a in a performance together, placement matters the choir.
Where is the choir? For those of you I love
of a good choir? So where are all the singers?
(20:03):
Where are they positioned at? If you see a quartet
or a trio, there might typically that's not by happenstance.
They're positioned so that the sound is optimized so you
can enjoy the performance and the audience and a business context.
Or in our kingdom assignment, do we have the right
people on the bus? Do we have a well defined process,
(20:26):
do we have the tools and technology needed to carry
out the assignment? And do we understand the timing associated
with our kingdom assignment? Equal process, tools, technology and timing.
God divine guidance ultimately determines our placement Proverbs sixteen to nine.
(20:53):
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.
So as we wrap up a mic check as a
heart check, kind of the underlying key takeaway here, as
we have to check our intent, we have to check
(21:15):
our intent in these times, we have to check our ambition.
There's a lot of movement going on in society these days.
How's our ambition? Love? Are we are we facing after
the wind? As King Solomon would say in the Book
of Ecclesiastes, what are we doing? What are we really
(21:36):
going after? Or are we being blinded by ambition? Philippians
two three gives the cautionary till it says to do nothing,
absolutely nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but rather in humility,
(21:57):
count others more significant in yourselves. The Bible condemns selfish ambition,
and ambition is not like the overt sins, like the
sexual sins, or the abuse of drugs and alcohol and
things like that. The ambition, selfish ambition is kind of
that thing under the surface that nobody's checking for, but
(22:21):
can blow up in your face if you're endlessly running
after something. If we're running and gunning, so ladies and gentlemen,
as we close, if we don't do a mic check
aka heart check, we become susceptible and vulnerable to attack.
You see, everybody, we live in this age. Everybody loves
(22:44):
a good sound bite, social media clip, YouTube shorts. Everybody
loves a good sound bite. And you see, when we
don't do a heart checker a mic check, that's all
that ends up mattering is a sound bite. Sound bite
bars you see, you see sound bites are hype based.
(23:05):
They're based on hype, popularity, viral. They're attractive, they're meant
to stimulate. But what if we didn't look for sound
bites instead of a sound bite bar or more focused
on living bars. See living bars are fruit based. They
(23:27):
might be quiet, but they have way more significance, way
more so. Brothers and sisters, Let's do a heart check today,
just as a mic check helps ensure the microphones and
audio system are optimal for performance. What a mic check
(23:49):
is to a speaker, performer or entertainer is what a
heart check is to a believer. You can connect with
