Speaker 1 (00:13):
Welcome to the Fortified Life Podcast, where we learn how
to develop a dependency on Jesus in the marketplace. From
the boardroom to the bathroom. God is with you. Here's
our host, author, speaker, teaker, encourager, here a true coach,
and my husband. It's the man they call mister forty five,
Jason Davis.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Hey, what's going on everybody? Welcome back to another episode
of the Fortified Life Podcast where we are passionate about
developing a dependency on Jesus in the marketplace. I'm your host,
Jason Davis aka mister Fortify. Every week we have the
opportunity to bring on authors, speakers, CEOs, leaders of nonprofits
(00:58):
that are all passionate about putting God back in business
as well. And folks, I got to tell you I'm
very excited about our guests today. He makes his second return.
In fact, Boyd, when you first came on the show,
it was called the Jericho Force Podcast. And Holy Spirit
does what he does, and now with branding and decisions,
(01:19):
so we're sensitive to Holy Spirit and now everything has
the fortified theme. So you're now here for the Fortified
Life Podcast. But ladies and gentlemen, Boyd Bailey is back again.
He's the president of the Georgia division of the National
Christian Foundation and the founder of Wisdom Hunters, Inc. And
Atlanta based ministry created to encourage Christians and apply God's
(01:42):
unchanging truth and a changing world. Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome
back to the show, Boyd Bailey Boyd. What's going on, sir?
Speaker 3 (01:51):
You know, Jason, any excuse to hang out with you
is a good day, and so thank you for your
love for the Lord and your family and your leadership community.
I've been watching you and God has a hand on
your life.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
So thank you for your love and obedience.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Absolutely, thank you, Boyd. It's the same with you. I
could sit with you if Rita and Disolo would allow,
I would sit with you for several hours. But I
know you wear multiple hats as a husband, as a father,
as a grandfather, as a CEO, as a president, many
many things. But I agree every time I get a
chance to sit down with you, I don't care if
(02:29):
it's five minutes, I greatly appreciate.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
It as well. Well, Boyd.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
That brings us back to why you're here for a part.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
Two.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Folks, If those of you who follow Boyd or have
been following him for a long time, the author of
many many books, a pillar in the community. But Boyd
has his latest book. He's always writing, but this one
is really special. So we've got the power of generosity.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
And I'm excited about this.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
And I had many thoughts and feelings when I learned
this was first coming out. But Boyd, when you look
at where we're at in twenty twenty five, what inspired
you to write this? And man, what you probably couldn't
have predicted where the world would be right now. So
(03:21):
what inspired you to write it? And why generosity?
Speaker 4 (03:25):
Now?
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Yeah, Jason, it's really a passion project. I really felt
called by the Lord to try to put into words
ideas and experiences that have been going over in my
mind in life over the years. And I'll have to
give my grandmother a lot of credit. She was my
generosity whisperer when I was growing up. She was my mentor.
(03:49):
I didn't realize it at the time, but now looking back,
her incredible influence not just money. Money was a small
part of it. For example, my grandmother was a Proverbs
thirty one woman, so she was an entrepreneur as well
as a mom and a wife, and she owned rental
(04:09):
property in one of her homes. She allowed my mom,
who was a single mom. I was the eldest of
three brothers. She allowed us to live in her rental
property at no cost through middle school and high school.
And you know, that was such a security for my mom,
not having to have worried that we would be evicted
(04:31):
or you know, to have that peace of mind with
such a gift. So she was generous with her hospitality.
She was generous with her relationships. He was constantly introducing
me to people that she knew with influence me.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Toward the Lord.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
And I would say her generosity around affirmation. I have
a large Bible she gave me over here that says
to my beloved grandson, whom I know the Lord is
well pleased.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Jason.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
When I'm having a bad day, I grabbed that Bible
and I look at my grandmother's handwriting, and her generous
words are such a blessing. And I would say, lastly,
her generous prayers. She prayed me into the kingdom, so
I did not grow up in church. In my freshman
year in college, the girl that I was dating, her
(05:24):
dad insisted if I was going to date her.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
I had to go to church with.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Him, and so about six months in the Holy Spirit
ambushed me and the sermon was about God's love. He said,
even if you don't have a earthly father, you have
a heavenly Father. And I'll just say one last thing
about the motivation behind the book. When I came to
(05:50):
the Lord Jason, probably with you and many others, I
was so overcome by gratitude. I just I couldn't thank
God enough for saving me, for giving me hope, peace, forgiveness,
you know, just that eternal perspective and eternal life.
Speaker 4 (06:10):
And I really believe.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
That gratitude is kind of the root of it's Generosity
is the fruit, and gratitude is the root. Another way
I like to say it is gratitude is like pulling
the nectar out, but then generosity is taking the nectar
and turning it into hunting. And I think when we
(06:34):
taste and see that the Lord is good, we can't
help but be generous. One of my favorite psalms is
in Someone sixteen. It says, Lord, you've been so.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Good to me. What can I give you? What can
I give you? Lord? You've been so good to me?
And I think you know my.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
Full full hearted worship, my love, my obedience, or just
to few things that are kind of low hanging fruit
that I can give to the Lord because He's He's
blessed me so much.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
I love that. Boyd, Folks, BOYD always has such beautiful
analogies with the honey and the nectar and fruit of Yeah,
that'll really resonate Boyd. Another thing I was thinking about,
Boyd with the title is you have the books called
The Power of Generosity, but then the subtitle Experiencing God's
(07:31):
Amazing Abundance, And Boyd, as you know, we always have
different discussions across the Christian community, so some may be
a little surprised to hear generosity and abundance in the
same sentence. But you started to kind of peel back
the layers a little bit. But when we think about
(07:53):
generosity experiencing God's amazing abundance, how do you bring those
two words and to the same playing field. Because some people, Boyd,
as you know, when they hear generosity, they hear one
set of thing, and then they hear abundance and it
takes them down another path. But then when you put
them together, they may raise an eyebrow and say Huh.
(08:15):
I never really thought about it that boy.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Well, you know, so much of God's economy is counterintuitive,
counter cultural.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
God's ways are not our ways.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
But when I read that promise in Proverbs eleven twenty five,
the generous will prosper, and those who are fresh others
will be refreshed themselves. Well, we know prosperity is much
more than money. It may be relational health, it may
be emotional health, physical health. It may be financial. We're
(08:48):
not guaranteed to that. And then when Jesus talks about
the abundant life that he gives us, it's a life
that he describes is laying down our life for him,
you know, it's it's uh. The first sentence in the book,
it says God does not need your money, but he
wants you. And so I think, Jason, what I've discovered
(09:11):
over the years I'm still trying to apply every day
is when I when I surrender everything to the Lord,
when he has all of me, he has everything. And
so my prayer is really not how much should I give?
My prayer is but how much should I keep? I've
already given everything? How much do you want me to keep?
(09:33):
And I think about time as well as money. Time
is I think more valuable than money, because once we
spend time, it's gone, and there's a finite amount of time.
And so, as you know, one of the best gifts
we can give someone is to meet for a cup
of coffee and leave our phone in the car and
(09:57):
over the cup of coffee, literally lean into the commonnversation
and give the gift of my attention, my time, and
then pray as we're in the conversation, pray about Wow,
I need to generously connect them to my friend Jason,
because Jason has walked this path before and for them
(10:19):
to get with Jason would be such a blessing. And
you know how that works. And then the Holy Spirit
orchestrates these relationships. And so I just think the abundant
life that God talks about is the life that's truly life.
He calls it true riches. Jesus said, you can't worship
(10:39):
God money, you'll hate one and love the other.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
And then he talks about.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
When we're faithful with worldly wealth, then we can enjoy
the true riches, you know, the true riches of relationship
with you, relationship with Him. And so every morning, so
I'll give you a prayer I try to pray every morning, Jason,
because because people come to me and they say, I
can't wait, boy to get rich. And when I get rich,
I'm gonna be generous. And I'm like, no, no, no, no,
(11:08):
let's let's take a time out. Let's start praying this
prayer today. Regardless of how much margin you have. If
you have zero margin with money, pray for other ways
to be generous. And so here's the prayer I try
to pray, Jason, Lord, show me today how you want
me to be generous. And when I started praying that prayer,
(11:31):
the first time I prayed it, I felt like you said, well,
first of all, BOYD, I want you to be more
generous with our time together. And trust me that I'll
fill in the gaps. Boyd, if you pray and spend
time with me, I'll actually save you time and save
you money and save you hard ache. And then then
I would write that prayer on an index card and
(11:51):
put it in my car. So when I was in
Atlanta traffic and somebody cut me off, I was reminded
to pray that prayer. You're going to be generous right now, Lord,
And he would say, I want you to be generous
with your patience and forgiveness right now. So I think
that's a powerful prayer if somebody's looking to get started
in generosity and watch how God directs.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
And blesses and opens doors that we never realized.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
That's good, Boyd. And you do know the Atlanta traffic,
so that is that's probably a good, healthy reminder of
the greats and goodness of God, and and and and
While it's funny, Boyd, what what a practical reminder of
in the midst of frustration and stress and impatience that
(12:43):
you know, Hey, I've been good to you. Why not
be good in this moment when it's hard to be good? Yeah, Boid,
you know that it's easy to be good when everything's
all good. But can we be generous? Can we be
thankful and not ideal situations? I just I just appreciate
you bringing up an example like the Atlanta traffic. For
(13:05):
those of us local in the area, you know exactly
what Boyd is talking about. Whether you're in eighty five,
seventy five, two, eighty five, four hundred or I twenty,
it could be its own battle for sure. Well, boy
I love how you have the book broken up. You've
got part one generosity principles, then you've got part two
(13:29):
generosity practices. What's the good What do readers need to know, Boyd,
about the relationship of Hey, here's some generosity principles, but
then here's some generosity practices.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
I think the principles help us love God with our mind,
and then our practice, the practices help us love God
with our heart. So so so the mind kind of
gets an understanding around truth. It's truth and grace, right,
and so when I hear the truth, the truth sets
(14:05):
me free, is how Jesus said it. So when I
read about the generous will prosper, then I'm like, Okay,
that's a pretty good principle. I want to learn how
to apply that in a manner that's healthy. And then
then I think, okay, how can I grow. What's a
habit or what's a practice that I can put into place? Well,
(14:26):
maybe it's being one practice, could be maybe being generous
with like I mentioned while I go my time with
the Lord. So for example, Jason, for me, I try
to get away once a year for a silent retreat.
I start out on a twenty four hour and now
I've kind of it's grown over the years to actually
(14:47):
five days silent retreat.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
And what I've learned in my life is I cannot
afford not to do that because there's so much noise
in my life. If I don't have silence to manage
the no boys, the noise manages me. And so if
I'm generous by having silence and solitude to kind of
think through what the Holy Spirit's saying and how God
(15:11):
wants me to make decisions or love my family, then
that's a great investment of saving me time and helping me,
you know, become aware. So I think the Christian life
is kind of like we're constantly discovering truth kind of
the principles, but then we're constantly kind of modifying or
(15:33):
or or are making our behavior moral like Jesus, which
which are the practices. I'll give an example. So when
our children are growing up, you know, they were excited.
We have four daughters, so they were excited about money
(15:54):
and mostly mostly to spend it on their on themselves, right.
I mean, that's that's you in nature. I want dad,
I want to can you give me a job? I
needed to go buy something, you know, kind of so
we we tried to help them understand that God owned everything.
Even though you earn the money, you're still God's manager.
(16:15):
You know, you have to ask him what he wants
you to do with what he's blessed you with. And
so we would have an envelopes save spend, share, or
we might have done share save spend, something like that,
where you have generosity is the first goal. Well that
was such a simple idea, but now with their children
(16:37):
as adults, they're they're trying to help their children understand
now that God owns all of this, and it's really
more of what does he How does he want you
to spend his stuff? And I can't reiterate enough Jason
to the idea about it's not waiting until we get
(16:57):
rich to be generous.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I'll give you. I'll give you two examples.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
When we had four teenage daughters, our margin in our
budget was almost paper thin.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
There was no room for error.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
And so my wife Rita was so committed that we
were going to give ten percent to our church and
we still would give more than that now because we're inkinistors.
So she was, you know, we're going to hold it
that Well, that meant when we looked at the budget.
We had to have staycations, and there's a lot of
ways to get creative around Atlanta. We would walk in
(17:36):
parks and we would go the Coca Cola Museum. We'd
spend a fraction of the money of if we would
have taken a proper vacation somewhere. Well, did you know
the first year we did that, a friend came up
to us and said, Hey, the Lord's just laid it
on our hearts. We just built a beach house, and
we want you and your daughters to go enjoy this
(17:57):
beach house. You didn't need to pay the cleaning fee,
the two hundred dollars cleaning fee.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Wow, fifteen years in a row.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
I mean, you know, God doesn't always work that way,
but for us, he filled in the gaps. We had
a vacation that was way beyond what we could have
ever afforded. And I think God blesses that kind of obedience.
I'll give you one other example. When Paul was writing
the Corinthians. The Corinthians were the rich church, so they
(18:29):
definitely had margin. Corinth was a seaport, it was under
the water, It was a very robust economically. It had
lots of jobs, lots of wealth. Well, he's writing the Corinthians.
He's using a poor church, the Macedonians, as an example
of generosity, and I believe it's tewod Corinthians Chapter eight,
the very first verse is through the grace of God,
(18:52):
the Macedonians, out of their poverty, gave with great joy.
So it starts with the grace of God. Yeah, leaning
into that, and he complimented the Corinthians. He's like, hey,
you've done, you've served well, you've worshiped well, you've done
wonderful things. But you lack one thing. You lack excelling
(19:14):
in the grace of giving. And I'm wondering, Jason, for
those of us as Christians, we're doing a lot of
good things for the Lord, but are we excelling at
the grace of giving?
Speaker 4 (19:25):
And what does that look like in our life? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Wow, that's powerful, Boyd. And I always love how you
you know so many stories with Rita and the girls
that you always have a new one that you share.
So that's a good one. And just you're right, boy
the grace of God. I mean, come on, fifteen years
in a row. And like you said, Boyd, anytime you
(19:50):
hear generosity testimony. God can do whatever he can do
with your family and their circumstance and whatnot. But two,
he knows, he knew what you and Rita's budget was.
And then for him to use another person and touch
their heart to do a generous thing, it's just a
(20:10):
general it's just a circle of generosity.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
I love it, and I don't have to confess. I
didn't like it to begin with because I felt like
I was having to receive, which requires humility. Yeah, and
for a man, I don't.
Speaker 4 (20:27):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
I was kind of resisting that, and it was like
the lad says, no, boyd, I'm trying to teach you humility.
And he reminded me, don't you remember what Jesus said.
He said, it's more blessed to give than to receive.
So you're both being blessed, but the person you're allowing
to bless you was actually being blessed even more so.
(20:49):
M h.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
And I'm like, oh wow, there's so much going on here.
He's trying to.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
Flush out my pride and he's trying he's trying to
another family.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Be double blasted.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Mmm. It's generosity to me is just a beautiful study
of God's love and God's provision.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
It's just amazing.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
That's powerful, Boyd, because that was actually you made me
think about another question and you you started getting into
it with that story, and that's what generosity does to
the giver and to the receiver. So you talked about
how for you, he was trying to root out some
of that pride, like I gotta be the one to
take my family, you know, because it's the We've got
(21:33):
all these tropes and stereotypes about what men and women
should and shouldn't be doing. And then on the other side,
that family I imagine, uh, you know, felt challenged to hey, yeah,
I want you to to let this other family. And
I'm sure it's like, yeah, but what if you know,
it's our beach house and we like going to just
(21:56):
talk about that for a minute, Boyd. And I know
that was one example, but is there anything else have
you found, like what generosity does to both the giver
and the receiver? Because I don't know that we always
talk about that.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
I'll tell you something that's tender towards my heart. So
I mentioned my mom earlier. She cleaned houses during the day,
she worked as a hostess at a restaurant at night.
So in the work we do Jason, and this is
true for a lot of us. We have a lot
of meals out because you know, we're meeting people for coffee,
(22:33):
we're meeting people for lunch, whatever it might be. Every
time I see someone, I hope every time. My goal
is every time I see someone with their name on
their shirt and they're serving our table and they're being
so generous, I want to know that. I want to
know their story, and so I like to just say, hey, Bill,
(22:55):
before we get into what we're going to order here,
would you take thirty seconds and just tell us story?
And you know, I had a guy the other day
He's like, Wow, nobody's ever asked me that, And just
to hear him say, in fact, we were down at
the Battery.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
This weekend with our kids and we were.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Reading one of the restaurants and Joe was serving us
and Joe starts Joe relocated from Saint Louis. It was
so much better here. He's got community. He actually used
the word community. He said, I've got community here that
I didn't have before. We just got to love on him,
and do you think we had good service?
Speaker 2 (23:34):
Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Of course, we did, but we didn't love on him.
We didn't love on him to be reciprocal so he'd
give us good service. Though that was a blessing that
came out of it.
Speaker 3 (23:43):
So I think our everyday lives, I think God puts
those generosity relationships right in front of us because I
think about as my mom was the hostess at a restaurant,
I think, well, that's somebody's mom, or that's somebody's daughter,
or maybe there's or maybe you know, maybe they're having
to go to school and work.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
And maybe I need to leave them an extra tip.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
I had a server tell me one time they dreaded
Sundays because the Christians would come in after church all demanding,
and then they wouldn't leave much of a tip. And
I thought, oh, my goodness, it needs to be just
the exist it needs to be just the opposite. I
can't wait this Sunday when the Christians come in because
they always uplift me with their love for me, and
(24:26):
they always leave a tip more than I expected, you know.
And and that's another thing. I think. Generosity is a
great apologetic for the Gospel. It's like when people I've
noticed this with my nine Christian friends, even my Christian friends.
When when I get to experience generosity with them, they're like, okay, now,
(24:46):
what do you want to return? It's like nothing, I
just want to be your friend. And no, no, what's
the cats?
Speaker 4 (24:55):
What's the cat?
Speaker 3 (24:56):
No, there's no, it's this is what God's done for me.
And the least I can do is to love his
children and to love his creation and the manner that
brings glory to Jesus.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
So good, Boyd, And you're right, what a way to
open up the sharing of the gospel with Well, wait
a minute. I'm used to people doing something and expecting
it and return, and here I go. I got this
crazy guy saying he doesn't want anything in return. I've
never seen that before. Tell me more about what is
going on here? And what what an opening for that?
(25:33):
So I appreciate you sharing, boyd.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
Yeah, joy wonder. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
I was just gonna say one last thing around that
generosity gives us influence.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
And and and it helps us convene.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
I tell my four son in laws, hey, I'm an
empty nester right now, so I'll pay for our lake
house gatherings as a family. I'll be the corporate sponsor,
and you know what, they all convene. We have one
hundred percent participation, you know, so Generosity is a great
convener too. I think my danger is I just have
(26:08):
to hold it with an open hand and not use
it to try to later, you know, I want to
use it in a healthy way.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
No, that's a great point, Boyd. And I'm sure the
family appreciates you being the corporate sponsor for.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Far so good.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
I'm sure the four sons in laws appreciate that very much,
as well as your daughters.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Boyd.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
One of the last things I just wanted to talk
to you about. You've done this with many of your books,
but you always provide multiple ways that readers can interact,
and you've got discussion questions. So for the both for
the individual reader and maybe for small group where a
church are what are some ways you see this book
(26:54):
being used?
Speaker 4 (26:54):
Boy Yeah, thanks for asking. Well.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
Number one, you can't write the Generosity book without giving
away one hundred percent of the royalties. So the royalties
are going to Christian Ministry. So that that was my wife.
We decided that right out right at the beginning. I
like this small group study in the back. It can
be used as an individual study or small group. But
I feel like in community that I'm more inspired and
(27:21):
accountable when I'm around other people. I don't trust myself
by myself, but when I'm with other people that are
like minded, their generosity is just infectious. I would really
encourage churches to use this for small groups or Sunday schools.
To me, it's just an excuse to have a conversation,
to talk about life and to talk about how we
(27:44):
can grow and hear other stories, hear how other people
have been created. There's also the you know, the e
book version. There's a sample you can download if you
just want to try it out first and make sure
it's okay. I think on Amazon, but no, I'm just
I'm just passionate about To me, this is one of
(28:07):
the secrets of the Christian life. It's really not so
much a secret that Jesus has given us access. One
last idea, the wisdom Hunter website wisdom hunter dot com
is also full of free resources. Generosity is kind of
our theme at wisdom Hunters, so we have a website
with a lot of devotionals and reading plans around various
(28:29):
topics like marriage and relationships and money.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
For example, I love it, Boyd, and that that sets
us up perfectly. Boyd, where can you mentioned Amazon? Where
can people get a copy of the book, or if
they even want to make bulk purchases, what's the best
way for.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Them to do that? Yeah, So for bulk.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
They can email me at Boyd at Wisdom Hunters dot
com and I'll make sure Wendy gets in the loop
and we'll will help him out on the bulk and
it would be a significant discount.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
So I would love to help with that.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Awesome. Well, folks, you know we're to get the book
directly from the author. Again, the power of generosity, experiencing
God's amazing abundance, Boyd, before we let you go back
into the world being generous and wise and all the
things that God has entrusted to you to do. Is
(29:27):
there anything cool or exciting that you've been working on
and now? Folks, I've had a lot of offline conversations
with Boyd before, and Boyd is always writing, He's always
having Kingdom conversations. So if you can sneak peek, I
don't want you to getting in trouble with publishers and
all that. But Boyd, what are you excited about as
(29:49):
we close the year or maybe even into twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (29:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
So one of the publishers I work with is Christian
Art and Gifts out of Chicago. We've been working on
the brand called the Man of God Series, and so
in March next year there'll be a three sixty five
for men called the Man of God. It's a devotional
book that I'm very excited about, and it'll also come
(30:16):
with other Bible studies and other accessories, kind of a
Man of God brand. So I love men and I
am a man. We need a lot of help, and
so we can be on the lookout next March for
that Man of God series.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Awesome, folks, you heard it breaking news here Fortified Life podcast.
Boyd chose us to invite us into a peak behind
the curtains, so we don't take that lightly, Boyd. For
all the listeners out there, we'll have all the Boyd's
information so you can learn about the National Christian Foundation,
(30:56):
Wisdom Hunters if it trusts me, if you're looking for
just a good, solid, daily devotional and I don't know
if you want to elaborate on that any Boyd, but
it's awesome. They've got it in podcast version written version,
so Wisdom Hunters, National Christian Foundation. But Boyd, if there's
anything with the two organizations that you'd like to add
(31:18):
for the people, please share that as well.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Well.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
The National Christian Foundation has been around forty four years
and there's actually a Generosity online library that you can
log into. It's all free articles, videos, etc. So I
would encourage people to check out the National Christian Foundation website.
It's full of fantastic resources.
Speaker 4 (31:41):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Well, I have all that in the show notes everybody
jerichofors dot com, slash podcasts and we'll have everything there.
You can make sure you get a copy of the
book for shorts. It's powerful. I say that about all
the Boyd's books, but it's the latest one is always powerful.
I tell you that. Also, at the time of this recording, Boyd,
(32:04):
we're going to be even at my own church, We're
going to be going through one of Boyd's one of
my favorites. I have many, boy but certainly the one
that grabbed my attention. I will tell this story real quick, Boyd,
because I always laugh because that's how we met. So
one of Boyd's books, Learning to Lead Like Jesus, just
a timeless classic in my opinion. I was at a conference, Boyd,
(32:27):
and they were handing out different books. I knew all
of the authors except for you at the time, and
I remember I came home and I saw this, this
green book, and I said, Learning the Lead. It's a
cool title, but who in the world is Boyd Bailey.
I think I might even said who the heck is
Boyd Bailey, which everybody listening, They're like, oh, Jason, you're
(32:50):
just a young kid. You have no idea, which I
did not. So I said that I shared Wisdom Hunters
because I became a subscriber. Then Boyd. I shared it
with a coworker of mine at the time. He loved it.
He was kind of the crazy person and said, Jason,
let's reach out to the author, and which is really
(33:10):
funny because I'm an author now, so I always chuckle
at this. Ah, they don't have time to meet with us,
with Boyd being local here in Atlanta six months go by,
your assistant at the time reached out and said, hey, Boyd,
love to meet you at the National Christian Foundation. And
I always share this everybody because it's just so Boyed.
(33:31):
I don't know if you all had a board meeting
or something that day, Boyd, but like fifty people come
out of a meeting, and I remember at the time
this said, Boyd, your ten o'clock is here, and you
were given handshakes and hugs, and then you looked over
at me and it was your first time seeing me
and you can't walk up and he said, oh, bring
it in, Jason. And then we get in the office
(33:52):
and I don't know if anybody's seen any of those
old school TV shows, it was like something out of
the sixties. Boyd has this I don't know if you
still have it or not, but he had this couch
and he leans back and he crosses his legs and says, gentlemen,
what can I do for you?
Speaker 4 (34:13):
The rest the rest is history.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
So boy I was deeply impacted from the first time
we met and every time we speak.
Speaker 4 (34:22):
But for the listeners, I just wanted to to.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Share that he'll also be in our midweek study doing
a Q and A session on that book. But I
just share that to say you're going to find awesome
resources with the National Christian Foundation as well as Boyd's
organization with some hunters. But boy I had to work
that in because it really is how we met, it
(34:46):
really is.
Speaker 4 (34:47):
I love that story.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
You're so fun to be with, Jason, and I love
how you were bold just to reach out. I think
we need to be you know, we just need to
have that boldness more often. So thank you for that.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
