Speaker 1 (00:05):
What's up everybody? Clinton, Fouchet here and I and this
is Front Porch Chronicles and this week I'm super stoked
we got on Terrence t Rex McKinney. Thank you so
much for taking the time out of your day to
come on. We appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yeah, my pleasure, man. I'm excited to get this rocket.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Yeah. So look, we know you just moved to Florida.
What what part of Florida did you end up moving to?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Okoy, Florida is like pretty much right next to it,
pretty much Orlando.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
So is that is that humanity killing you yet? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:44):
We've been I did my first track work out with
the team and some vans.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
You guys saw the video was hurt for like three days,
but it was worth you know. I'm just so.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
Loa. We talked about it. The first thing I saw
when I popped the video up, I was like, look,
this man just moved. He's probably ain't already unpacked. Mad
respect for me for even getting out there in the
vans in the humidity, trying to learn. So look, we're
gonna send you. I'm a Nike guy. Look, and Nike,
(01:19):
we need to get you on board for sponsor my
boy Terrence, We're gonna send you some black Nikes. I
don't know why, but the first thing that popped into
my head anytime when I talk about Nikes is the
Friday night light. So we gotta get you Booby milesed up.
We're gonna send you. We're gonna send you some Black Knights.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
You guys better send me the Black Forces.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
No doubt. Look, they don't know about the Black Forces.
That's what I was gonna say. A lot of people
don't know that. When you put on those black forces though.
Look where I'm I'm from Montgomery, Alabama. When you see
them black forces, you better walk a little bit quick
because you're about to get robbed or one or the other.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Oh god, we love it.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
We love it.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
So we wanted to dive into your Instagram page.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Dude.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
I was cracking up and looking at the memes. Do
you make those yourself? With the gate like the Justin
engaged in the hallway, like when when Max tells them
to bring in the corner and the lightsabers going back
and forth.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
I was dying all that.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Do you make all those memes?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Nice videos? And people into it?
Speaker 4 (02:25):
Dude?
Speaker 5 (02:25):
I was cracking up. Oh my god, you inspired me.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
I actually started after Albert brought it to me and
I saw it, I started dying laughing. So I started yesterday.
I started doing the m M A means.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
That's where it's from.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yeah, So I started it where the chick got knocked
out and as she was falling, they had her stirring
up pot.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
A cruise to someone did one with me.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
It had me dying and then I'm like, in a
video game seat.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Well, you about to be on one too when you
get another quick knockout as well too, So we're excited
for that.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
So I know we wanted to dive into uh I was.
I saw where you posted where Connor fired Mike Perry.
First of all, mad shout out to Mike Perry because
trying to go over into a different sport. And it's
funny to me because people don't have the mindset of
(03:30):
MMA and boxing are two completely different things. And Albert
was asking me about it and I said, he was like, well,
they're both fighting, and I said, okay, it's similar to this.
If you put Muggsy Bogues, who's a point guard, a
short one at that, down low against Shack and try
(03:54):
to get him to stop it. It's both basketball, right,
but it's too totally different things like you can't yeah,
so dominated yeah all day cook so you know. But
also with that being said, I would fight my mom
(04:15):
for ten million dollars, So I'm not mad that Mike
Perry for go and get that money. But you know,
I was with you with Connor McGregor, uh popping off
and mad respect for you for standing up for Mike Perion,
saying like, hey, like, give that dude respect. You went
and got money and got paid.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Why that guy, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (04:40):
He thought a guy like Floyd tiny dude versus Mike
Perry is fighting the dude that probably had like thirty
pounds on him. So like, why you hating on someone
just trying to he has kids defeat, So like why
hanging on the guy to doing the same thing you
did left you see to get your money, right, Like
we all just here for the same goal, so why
not support them?
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You know?
Speaker 1 (05:00):
No, I agree? And then he was like, oh and
this nobody I'm like broke, which was mad crazy to
me because nobody. While he responded back, preach take him
to church on a Friday. But look the same thing
that I said though was number two to that is. Honestly,
he's talking mad noise. He's the one that really has
(05:23):
turned into a nobody. He's been off the scene, off
the grid for years now, on the you know, on
the Jews. Yeah, and then he's pulling out for a
like a hurt toe. I did a I did a post.
Hoffa's foot was like completely broken and he was on
there like talking noise to RDA about not fighting. And
(05:47):
then he's got a stub toe like a little bruce toe.
And don't get me wrong.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Jon Jones told came off. He finished the fight.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
You know what I'm saying. His toe was almost torn
up and he was in there. But I just think
I think when Connor does come back, if he comes back,
I'll tell you this, I've told many people that I
don't think I think it's gonna be excuse after excuse.
I don't think I think he got that money, and
I don't think he's about that life no more. I
(06:17):
think I think he's cashed out mentally.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
But I just want to like to stay relevant. That's
why if he does fight, it'll be for that reason.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
He'll be in Roadhouse too.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
B Lift Movie. B Lift Movie I'm just throwing that
out there. No, hay Man, I'm just saying b lift movie.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
So, uh, I was curious, like, where'd you get the
name t Rex from? It's a dope name.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
At first it was like I had to just like
t R e X because uh, I used to have
like a shitty wrestling stance, and I was like, I
was wonderful.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
I kept getting taked down.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
I was getting cooked out there, like texting shit, and
I went to ask me my homie, dyl Limmery.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Was like, boom, why did he take me down? Man?
He said, you just out there standing like a t
rex man legs.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
And then after that I was t Rex forever. And
then like once I started fighting, I was like, I'm
wrecking people. So like I changed it to a t Rex.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Oh, I like it. I like it.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
So I wanted to dive in a little bit back
of your background. You know, you just moved, but where
are you originally from? Can you tell us a little
about that.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
I was born in Chicago. My mom was in the military,
so we moved a lot. I lived in Lionsville, Alabama
for a little bit because my mom was getting her
life together. She had when she was sixteen, So I
stayed with my grandma out there, and then eventually she
got us and then moved to Atlanta, and then she
was staying in Germany, and then we moved to Washington
once she married a guy named Ross, and I was
(07:44):
there pretty much like the rest of my life growing
up there.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Which was your favorite place to live?
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Germany was super sick, but I would say Washington was
my favorite because, like, I really got to make a
name for myself wrestling at State.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
They were sick.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
There was like packed out arena, so like I got
addicted to that lifestyle, being in the spotlight, you know.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Yeah, it's so gorgeous up there too. I love Washington.
Yeah there's something should do out there too. You said
a little bit about wrestling and stuff like that too.
What age did you start wrestling?
Speaker 2 (08:20):
I started in seventh grade?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Oh wow, okay, that's early.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Let what led you to m m A Uh?
Speaker 3 (08:31):
It was actually the near death experience we were talking
about earlier, So like, uh, after I saw them demons, like,
I ended up passing out, falling through window and I
saw all this crazy ship and uh, I ended up
becoming like one of the baddest motherfuckers on the planet
cause I'm fighting everyone and then like only like these
like super galactic like uh mpts could stop me right
(08:56):
like they sedated me and stuff. And then I get
inn like the ambulance and I started doing this crazy
shit with my hands, and then I feel like everyone
on Earth died and then I'm like sitting in heaven
and stuff like pretty much like part of God.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
And then I wake up in the hospital.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
And after I seen all that crazy stuff, I was like,
that's only one place you become the batsman on the planet.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
And that's the UFC.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
So that's pretty I ended up.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
So after that, I ended up.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Going to college because one more year because I'm trying
to get a national title because then you can automatically
start making good money like five to ten K. So
I wanted to try to do that, but the situation
wasn't working out, so I dropped out and my journey
started when I was like twenty two.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
So let me ask you a question. With the near
death experience, how did that change your mindset besides just
going to be an MMA fighter.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Just realizing like what's really important because I always like
was trying to hang out with friends and like and
then I start realizing, like, damn, my brothers are grown
up and I was missing it, like because everything just
start hypening so fast.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
You know.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
You at the year when you're going, you're like missing
your brothers, Like next thing you know, they're graduating and shit.
So I just had to realize that, like what was
really important that was my family. Like, no matter what
I look like on TV, looking like cracket, they're the
one that stayed on my side.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
They didn't snitch, they they held it down for me.
Speaker 3 (10:20):
And that's what I had to realize, like they're actually
looking up to me, you know, and that's what made
me want to make the change.
Speaker 5 (10:27):
Yeah, it's always funny once you realize you're not getting
any younger. Like you you found this out when you're
twenty two, but whether it's like when you just graduate
college or like when you're at like your senior year,
like what happened with you, you start to realize that
the world is not just what happens in college, you know,
and then you have to like actually branch out and
make a name for yourself too. So that's pretty incredible
how that one experience, as tragic as it was, it
(10:50):
allowed you to like really see the future of like
who can t Rex really be?
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Yeah, exactly. So let me ask you, is that situation
and kind of everything we know you have a son,
how did that? How does that help you as a
father going through that experience and having that mind shift.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Oh, just making sure I'm not too strict, because like
once I got to callus, I was like, my mom
can't stop it for doing anything. So just giving your
kids a little bit more freedom, because that way they
can make them Like I don't want them to make
the mistake, but if they do, at least they're is
when they're younger, and like they don't have to do
when they're older, they can figure it out the situation
before when they do get in trouble with it's like
(11:34):
a big effect, you know, So the consequence a lot
bigger once you're older. So if they can make it
when they're younger, I'll rather that happen. Give them a
little freedom so they can learn.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
And then the consequences that you face too, like in
college too. That probably puts a little bit of it.
Seems like it would help you realize what's the bigger
picture for them too, because obviously.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
The kids entering like four cops.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
It's like, yo, I gotta get years.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
I could see where I'm glad though that as a father,
sometimes situations like that for me, like for me, uh,
sometimes people turn into being too strict because they went
through I know, for me with my I'm a og dad,
I've got five of them. So with me with my
(12:25):
oldest child, I went through a very troubling childhood and
so for me it made me super strict with my daughter,
which is probably similar to with your mother the situation
that she had. And so for me, you know, I
had to kind of mind shift. I saw what did
and didn't work with my oldest daughter with being too strict, uh,
(12:49):
and releasing that too. So it's it's a good thing
that you see to let them make mistakes now when
you're on a lesser scale. It might be still or
something sometimes like I just had stitches. I'd rather have
stitches in the eye now than than something serious uh
that happens later. So kudos to you for taking that
(13:12):
situation and evolving from it, rather than having that situation
and just saying screw it, I'm just gonna continue down
a path of destruction.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
So yeah, that got like I said, like you said,
they gotta be a balance. You know, you gotta have rules,
but you gotta let them, let them learn. That's the
way they're going to be adult. You're treating like kids,
then you're gonna get kid results. And I'm trying to
train them be an adult. So so, like like you said,
you gotta let them learn, make mistakes, maybe some stitches,
but it's better than death, like you said, yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Speaking of that too.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
So after you have this huge revelation in your life
and your parents are probably freaking out to about it, right,
what was the reaction when you're like, hey, after this
that just happened to me.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
To be like, hey, I'm an mm A fighter, Like,
what was their reaction?
Speaker 2 (14:04):
It was crazy.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
I was the first person twenty in ground and I'll
tell you that I who summer sh so I had
no choice about to get clean. I couldn't even lead
the damn house.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
That's funny. Do they come to your fights?
Speaker 3 (14:22):
I don't like them too, because like I can just
like I can always feel people emotion, so like i'd
rather just not have that around because like that anxiety,
I don't want to feel it, Like when I'm in
my zone. I just want to like when you go
to war, like sometimes you just gotta do it bout yourself,
and that's that's when you're going to grow the most.
And that's what I like to do it.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
I'm the I'm the exact same way, so you hit
the now on the hair. I read people and energies
and stuff are I'm very intuitive, Like when I go
to whether it be I be JJFS. I had two
AMMI MMA fights back way, and every he said, Oh,
we're coming to support you, and I'm like, dude, if
(15:03):
you're gonna show up, don't even tell me you're gonna
show up.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Don't even tell me or talk to me.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
I don't even want to know. I know my my
second fight I lost because I'll be straight up, I
had so much anxiety because my oldest out at the time,
she was like eight or nine, and she visited me
for the summer and the fight, and I was like, dude,
(15:30):
I cried every reason for her not to come, but
she's so adamant about coming.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
I know what you talk about my mom my brother
something like.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
So when you just joined a new team, how's that,
how's that going?
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Oh it's incredible.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Yeah, we got a lot of good talent here, and uh,
like I said, I rolled with Julian dudes, nice to deal.
It is nice to be able to coach, you know,
because you know, some people coaches, they ain't ever.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Fought before or nothing. It's nice to be with a coach.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
He was twelve and one, so like you can like
really respect someone, you know, like it's so it's nice
to like kind.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Of have that with the coach.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
You know, the team are you with fusing excel So
it's just not like I said, if he really breaks
down a fight to make sure like you win every time,
like like there's strategy to like every round, you know.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Yeah, and that's what I'm here to do.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
We're here to win matches, not not just being killed
to be killed. I'm ready to get ranked and just
quit playing around.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
You know.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
I got enough highlights for anyone, So now it's time
just to put together.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
So yeah, keep building you up.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Yeah, so what what made you switch to this team? Individually?
Speaker 3 (16:43):
I'm not even gonna lie, Like I told the coach,
it wasn't even on my radar. At first, I was
thinking about going to kill LEFC or American Top Team
or Extreme and then like I don't really like make
decisions without praying on it. And then I prayed and
then like I was like, who are wherever I'm supposed
to go? Just have the person reach out like where
I'm supposed to go or or just give me a
(17:05):
mess to say it in my head and uh field
rolling up and reaching out. But I'll still like kind
of timid about it. And like one day, I'm just
sitting there and I kept hearing fusion, infusion.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Effusion, all right, what the hey?
Speaker 3 (17:18):
I was like, isn't this one I'm posed to go?
And then, like the people that pray for him, I
hit him up and I was like, is this one
I'm pulled to go? And they're like yeah, And I
was like, all right, bet fusion Fusion it is. And
then I pretty much put an application in at a
random apartment and move down by that's.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
If that ain't God's plan, I don't know what it is.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Yeah, So I know every gym has their own style.
Now that you've kind of built a little bit of
rapport with Fusion, what does a typical day look like
you with them?
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Just high level stuff, just grappling more and I'll say,
just we've been working on defense. Uh, other than that,
and I'm just getting acquainted with the team's getting closer
with the guy. I'ma go to event next week out
here just for your team, just show mam all in.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
Once you do that too, like you'll start building that
camaraderie and then you can figure out who you actually
vibe with a little bit more, start getting some tips
and tricks from everyone too. So that's cool that you're
actually building a foundation with them too. Do you have
a I had a question for you on this too,
So do you have like a pre fight routine that
you like to do either a week of the fight
or like right before day of.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
I'm the kind of guys that I'll fall asleep before
the fight. I don't even try to like get all
amped up right in the cage. I want to save
all that energy, all that power for when I get
out there.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Dude, It's crazy how alike we are because I'm the
same way. Everybody's like, bro, you gonna warm up, and
I'm like, no, I'm good. I told him this an
exact thing. He was like, what is your warm up routine?
I'm like, bro, I don't have one. You see this,
(19:06):
Malla I'm from Montgomery, Alabama. Brother, I'm just like put me.
I'm like, bro, put me in, coach, whenever it's my
time to go, just wake me up and I'm ready
to ride out. Was exactly cube. Let the bodies hit
the floor and push me in there. I'm good. So
(19:27):
do you have a fight that currently booked? Are you
looking to book? Uh?
Speaker 2 (19:33):
We should.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
We should be getting booked here soon. I have my
coach send them a message. Uh, we just got cleared
for like like I took a test to make sure
neurologically I'm doing all good. Yeah, I got cleared on
that and uh we sent that to UFC and now
we're about to get something book and get back in action.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Let's go.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
We can't wait to see that. We can't wait to
see that for sure.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
So so let me ask you this, knowing that you
can amen to the game at a younger age, what
advice would you have for an upcoming fighter slash wrestler
that's wanting to get into an mm A career.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
I always tell people, come open minded, be eager to learn,
and uh, don't wait to do pro stuff. Don't wait
to be a USC fight, be a UFC fighter. Ol
so if that goes for eating right, putting the extra
mouths in. Uh, Like I said, live do everything that
the pro is doing. Don't wait through it.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
I say, do it now.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
If you want to be a USC fighter, trained like
USC fighter, now, don't wait till you're in a big
league to make all these leaps and changes, like just
be ready to just train like one. You're going to
be one this period.
Speaker 5 (20:45):
Just like Yeah, the mind the mindset is christ I
don't think more and more after we get more people
on it's people don't realize how much you guys really
really go through day to day. Like you guys are
fucking training every hour, every minute, and then if you're not,
you're resting your work, covering them some sort so that
you can train later on in the afternoon too. So
I think that's the biggest thing is like as you
(21:05):
want to make it like as your professional career. It's
completely different from like just doing it for fun.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Yeah, and that's due to Icepath.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Do whatever you can, especially if you got free insurance,
there's no reason not to go to extrameun well.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
And that's the thing with this podcast that we wanted
to create, and that's when we first started talking about
is showing you, guys in a different light that you
have children, that you have like moves that you make,
that you have to live a lifestyle and that's not
just showing up and you fight for fifteen minutes, like
(21:40):
you have to eat right, you have to die right,
you have to go through trials and tribulations. And the
hope was that people like on Twitter Twitter Mma is
like savage and like some of these people on there,
I'm like, bro, They're like, you lost yourself and all
this stuff, and I'm like.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Bro, say they're ruthless, grow and even.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
When they love you, they hate you and then tell
you and then it's like ninety nine percent of the
time they've got either a fake profile, picture, fake name,
or both. And it's like, bro, do you even who
even are you to try to knock somebody that's out
here trying to provide for their family. It's insane to me,
But you know whatever, like.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Those guys more motivation, you know what I mean?
Speaker 5 (22:32):
Speaking speaking of motivation, I was curious, like what is
it that really continues to motivate you and like push
you to get to that next level and continue training,
going through all that hard work that you guys have
to go through every single day.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
For me, family, god, you know, my son, and really
just it off me myself, like at the end of
the day, like like I never did anything just to
be a participant.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I'm not a participant. You know.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
I've been ranked no intunation, ranked number one, two time
state champion. When I do something, I want to be
best at it, so like that's just kind of person
I am. Like I'm not here just to be in
the UFC. Like that's why you see me making these
moves like if I don't touch the bilt, this ship
was pointless, Like I'm.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Not going to do it, and that's on the best,
Like that's the goal. Like if you don't want to
touch the goal while.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
You why doing it, it's it's It's crazy though that
some guys you can see in the UFC, and like
I said, going back to reading and I'm I'm around
a lot of these guys. There are some guys that
are just there for nothing more than a paycheck. And
that's cool. I'm not knocking, but I like you kind
(23:42):
of have the mindset like if I'm going to take
the time to do it, the money part of it
is cool. And all of that. But at the end
of the day, for me, if I can't be the
best at it, or I can't put that belt on.
You know, in my profile picture, I got the belt
on that was already's belt. When I helped him move,
(24:02):
he was like, I was like, bro, the back part
of it came up. I was like, let's take it out.
He was like, bro, I haven't taken this out since
I got it. I said, let's take it out and
take pictures with it. He's like, okay, let's take it out.
So yeah, if I can't take it, if I can't
have the gold, bro, for me, there's no there's no
reason in even me doing it. So kudos to you
(24:26):
for going after the gold rather than just going after
the money, because that is going.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
To be there when you're succeeding anyways. So like, the
man goes just to be the best version of yourself,
and the best version of myself to me is a champion.
So like, I'm not stopping til.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
I get that.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
I already know what kind of athlete I am. I've
been a top athlete in the world, so I know,
like that's what that's what my capability is.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
So I won't. I won't put my ceiling any lower.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
That's dope. And going back to being a parent, your
son sees that, and that's so much moving for him
going forward to see you have that mindset makes a
big makes a big difference. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
So what uh, what is the biggest lesson that you've
learned since becoming a professional fighter in MMA?
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (25:14):
Just take everything as a grain and salt, you know,
like my like your mom used to tell you, there's
always gonna be someone bigger, better and faster, you know. Uh,
And at the end of the day, just remembering like
there's always tomorrow, you know, Like, no matter what happened
to fight game, like, I always gotta like tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
I got my family. Just remember that no matter what,
I'm not just a fighter. I'm a father, I'm a friend.
You know. Just remember like this, this doesn't define me,
you know, so I will never let it eat me
up inside.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
Yeah, bro, you take on this frid You're dropping truth, Bob,
And I'm like.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
Well, and a lot of that probably has to do
with your faith too, right, You talk about it a lot,
and just the little interaction that we had is like
it's bigger than just you, right, like you if you
rely only on yourself and you start thing to inwardly,
and it's like, what's the point. It's got to be
something bigger or else. It's just just for the accolades.
Like I know you said you're doing this for the
title to want to be there for your own personal self,
But it's not just that too. It's like, how does
(26:13):
like your faith kind of apply in this situation?
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Is everything?
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Because like I said, I want to start a gym,
Like I want to help people like as much as
I can, so, like because when I was growing up,
I want to be there to like throw people's profile
out there, you know, because when I was coming up
and I was training with guys like why don't you
post me and like they have been helpful, you know,
to give me a little puss, you know. I want
to be there for the guys that really working hard,
and I see work hard, I'll post their things and
(26:39):
people who are really out there trying to get it.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
That's just that's the kind of person I am. And
I want to start a gym for.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
People that don't have money, you know, and just give
them the chance to make it to a high level.
Of the people that can afford it. So that's like
my goal and just like just basically like have staff
there for counseling because like like I said, there's a
lot of mental that goes on and so I want
to make sure there's mental coaches there as well. And
that's kind of like a system I want for the
(27:06):
gym that I'm trying to build it. Once it's all
said and done.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
You can tell you have a very pure spirit and
goodness about yourself. Like reading this is me on the
outside being into it. If you can tell that everything
you do is for everybody else. And even with the bell,
I think when you say you want the belt and
(27:30):
you want to be the best, I think you want
to be the best because you want to be a
light to others and at your age to be that
and have that pure goodness about you is super dope.
Keep that spirit and keep that vibero because it's very
It's it's we had Bobby Green on last week and
(27:51):
he the same way, like just has this pureeness in
this goodness and you've had every reason to kind of divert,
but you have this pureeness about you and people see
you as this fighter and they think this ah, but
they don't know, like the loving, caring god that wants
to do for other people and be a helping hand
(28:13):
to other people. That's super dope, man.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Yeah, that's why. That's why I got genuine fans.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Like I talk to fans, I give advice, like whatever
you need, you know what I mean, if just for
someone that feels special, like I gladly re mess you
show your friends whatever you want to do. Whatever I
can do to put a smile one on his face
on I'm here to do that because I know what
it feels like to be down or feel like you're alone, you.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Know, mad respect, I've been there. I've been there, and
so we already we got to be homies after this
because I can already tell like we vibe on the
same level. Uh and and kind of similar to you.
For me, I always try to build up in One
(28:56):
of the things for me, I came from such chaos,
it's it's that I always want to be a light
to other people and help other people not have to
see those dark days and think that that's the only
thing that they have. There is a brighter day. There
is people out there that go through all kinds of
different struggles, trials and tribulations. But God always has a
(29:20):
plan and a purpose for each one of us, and
it's just about aligning with those people that have that
same mindset to bring up the people from the masses
and doing God's work. And so it's it's super dope
that that we're on the same way.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
I'm happy around that exactly because around people that want
to be the best, you know, because I know that
I'll always have someone to go train, Like, oh, what
do you want?
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Do you want to go train?
Speaker 3 (29:46):
I know, Like I can just see like the demeanor
of people your day about it, Like if I call them,
I know they'll go put the extra work in with me.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
So it's nice to be an environment like that.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
Yeah, that's so.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
Speaking of that too, Like obviously you have a lot
of elite guys around you and stuff like that too.
How do you balance being a father, being a professional
MMA fight in the UFC, and then just being Terrence
mcanny all the way around? How do you balance everything
like that?
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Uh? Just making sure like no matter what I'm doing,
Like if I get a call, I'm asking it for
the BMS to see my son, like to say he
wanted to talk to me. Then I'm askman, I don't
care like what I'm doing, you know, like being interview
and I'm like, oh, my son, yeah, just making sure
I remember what's most important, you know, no matter what
(30:34):
how big this shit gets, I just always want to
make sure, like I stand on the morals that that
was built upon me as I grew up.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
So you don't want to forget your roots effort too.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
Me and him talk about it all the time because
we grew up in a completely different environments. So he
grew up in a very words like chaotic environment. I
grew up in suburbia for the most part. And then
how to like so we had like mix each other's
roles and it reminds me a lot of my dad too,
So he has kind of instilled similar value to what
I grew up in, but just in a different kind
of way of growing up. And so it's like interesting
(31:06):
how you, like two different people can come together and
like now with you, like you just have to rely
on what you grew up in and like where you
want to go, because when you have so many different
people wanting so many different things from you, and like
now that you have this limelight on you, it can
get very challenging to remember who Terence mckennie can be,
and you have to find a way to ground yourself.
And so it's really cool to actually see in real time.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Yeah, it's also cool to see people that you vibe
with and learning who to vibe with and who not
when to vibe with, because a lot of times in
this business sometimes people feel like they get stuck with
people that don't morally have the same vibe as them,
and they're like, oh, well, but they're part of my team,
(31:50):
or but they're a part of this, or oh but
that's my whatever. The biggest thing is learning when to
stay and when to walk away. So I commend you.
I commend you on finding something that that fits your vibing,
that your your energy and and you know, knowing that
you're gonna like it take you to the next level. Uh,
(32:14):
and your humbleness is super super uh cool. So we're
gonna kind of go into something a little bit fun here.
We're gonna do some rapid fire questions. We're gonna put
you on the clock, uh and say the first thing
that pops into your head. Ready, we're on the clock,
(32:35):
who is your favorite fighter growing up?
Speaker 2 (32:37):
Anderson Silva.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
Yes, Oh my gosh, the legend too, what is as well?
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Like I really love one fight. I like Prime bj
Pan too, he has a sauce.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
BJP. All of those. You could just merge all of
those together.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
You do it at all? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (33:01):
Which one of those fighters like really influenced you to?
Like did you take any of those styles and put
them into your game?
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Definitely. I would just say, like John Jones, like just
the stands.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
When I first started, Like that's all I'll do, Just
take people down ground and pound some other bombmm elbows.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
Yeah, they just legalized the twelve six.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
I know I'm not to hurt people like with the
hands down to you canna. They gotta have to be
on their knees.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Sometimes somebody's getting baptized.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Yeah, I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
So what is your favorite travel destination?
Speaker 4 (33:42):
You've been to a lot of places.
Speaker 3 (33:46):
I would say Miami I love to go to, and
then Brazil was a sick trip. Uh honestly, you know
the place I really want to go to look sick.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Is Australia, Sydney.
Speaker 4 (33:59):
I've yeah once.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
I think that's my favorite one there.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
What is your biggest pet peeve. See you're like, ma,
we got a bunch of I.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Got someone that's life for no reason, you know what
I mean? Like you are I hate that life for
no reason.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
But like especially if something little like you could just
tell me like curious someone someone that always has a
story to top your story that.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
He was like, look and see, I hate a liar. Bro,
I will cancel you out for being a liar now,
I'm telling you now, I would cancer. I had one
friend of mine that was a good friend and he
was like, oh, I can't do this because of this,
this and this, and like he threw out this whole
like definitely like white with the hotsp. And I was like, what, man,
(35:02):
I feel like going back to the empathy thing. Like
I was like, man, I'm so sorry. Do you need
me to bring you guys something? Do you need to home?
Way popped up on Live like an hour later and
was at a concert. Bro, No, we can't be homies
after that you have He had me out there singing
(35:22):
one last cry for his wife thinking she's about to die,
and they're they're getting liddy in the city at the concerts.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
He probably was celebrating then, Bro, I put on.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Friends so quick. No, and he was like, Bro, what
happened to you?
Speaker 2 (35:39):
No?
Speaker 1 (35:40):
I'm good, Bro, I'm cricked.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
The block always has a story to top yours.
Speaker 1 (35:45):
Mister I call him mister me too. You know, look
I jumped. Look I jumped. I dunked on the ten
foot rim one time. Man, I jumped man. One time
we lifted the rim up to twenty three twenty three feet.
I jumped up there, did a back flip and dunk.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Bro hit it off the Cliff'd like, Bro, stop, maybe
you have me dying?
Speaker 2 (36:11):
IM sure?
Speaker 4 (36:13):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (36:13):
Man?
Speaker 4 (36:13):
So after a big fight camp, what is your favorite
cheat meal?
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Mm?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
I'd be eating like a motherfuckers soon as the fight
camp going. I'm on a fool nigga acutity liquors flood.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
It's a cheat week, cheat month.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Make me too. Who knows.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
If you could, but if you could only pick one food,
what would it be?
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Dang surfing turfs for sure?
Speaker 4 (36:50):
Oh okay, okay, make me hungry?
Speaker 1 (36:53):
So what what is your hidden talent?
Speaker 2 (36:57):
I can draw really good sometime as I make music.
What else? Yeah, that's about it. I can draw good
and I can make some decent music. Nice.
Speaker 4 (37:10):
What is your favorite song?
Speaker 2 (37:14):
I don't really have a favorite song right now. I'm
just kind of listening to everything.
Speaker 3 (37:18):
But I've been listening to the song of Man's by
Dying Jacob pretty five nice.
Speaker 1 (37:24):
What is your favorite actor or actress?
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Leana of DiCaprio legend and I love The Street Movie.
Speaker 5 (37:35):
Yeah, I say, yeah, the Revenant too. That one's badass.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
She looks so real when.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Better than me because I've seen that bear.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
I'm running dude, Oh my god, legendary.
Speaker 1 (37:53):
I'm not from Dakastan. I ain't wrestling no bears. I
always tell people, I say, I'm not that caucasionally challenged.
I'm a hybrid. I'm a hybrid.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
I always tell people I think I can get a
mount and.
Speaker 1 (38:10):
Don't try. Don't try it, bro, don't try.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Man. What is your favorite movie of all time? For
TV show?
Speaker 2 (38:20):
I like the Warcraft movie. That's one of my favorites.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
That's a good one.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
I think they need to make the second one.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
I know, why do they delayed shows and movies out
so far? Now I'm like me too.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
I know that you motherfuckers got money with you, Brian.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
You see what I'm saying. Theyre he sings out for
like two three years and it's like, Bro, by the
time they come out with the next one, they think
it's gonna make people hype to go see it. But
I'm the complete opposite. It's like a chick for me. Bro.
Once I've been there and done that, I don't want
to go back. Like, Okay, it's been three years, Bro,
I'm over this now.
Speaker 5 (38:57):
I don't know nobody. Did you ever watch Freaky Friday too?
That's about our generation. Yeahak Friday. They're making a new
one for some reason, and it's like twenty years later.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
See if they make twenty years later.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
Who's weird? It's weird.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
If there was this zombie invasion, What one fighter would
you want on your side?
Speaker 3 (39:22):
I'll say Josh Jones because you can tell he's always
shooting around. That motherfucker ready for reading the fuck you
have grenades and ship off type.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
It always comes down to for me, it always.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
In the Cowboy Cowboy Donalds Soroni. I feel like he's
gonna have he's gonna have everything.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
And Shine Strickland, yeah, and Shine strict those three Strickland.
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Dumb ass might become a zombie. He might try to
really throw hands.
Speaker 1 (39:50):
You'd like try to fight, bro, if you have didn't.
Actually I definitely wrote would row with John Jones. Though
he can shoot, he can scrap.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
He's probably got a bunk or two.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
And he's got dogs on top of that. He's got
them iron legend dogs. Bro, He's got them things. He's
got them dogs trained to next level. That's who. That's
who I'm taking on my soul. All right, So we
know you got a lot of stuff going on. Will
finalize it with this one kind of deep If you
need to take a second to think about it's all good.
(40:35):
If today was your last day. What do you want
Terrence McKinney to be remembered for?
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Uh, just having a good heart, bringing as many people
to God as I can, and just a champion on
and off the matt you know, just a genuine person.
I want people to know that like everything I said,
I meant it, And just know that like I had
(41:05):
the love of God for.
Speaker 6 (41:06):
Everyone like you, everyone, with my brother and my sister.
So like I'm gonna treat you the same way I
treat you you treat me so like I want everyone
to know that, Uh, I'm just here for you guys,
just as much you hear from me.
Speaker 4 (41:19):
I love it.
Speaker 5 (41:19):
It's cool to see like the humbleness and in the
way that you like you used what you grew up
in and how that one instance, that one situation that
was your pitfall, but it was the way to just
like blossom and make you like shine and see what
was really important to you and then bring it back
to how your faith is able to like humble you
(41:40):
and make sure that like that's that's that's the main goal, right.
Yes I have a mission in fighting, yes I have that,
but the way I walk with faith, the way I
walk with God, is most important, so that way everything
else has the same morals and values to where you
can actually shine and beat yourself.
Speaker 4 (41:54):
So thank you for sharing that today. We really appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
Yeah, I know it's it's super dope for me. Like
I said, to see anytime when you vibe with somebody
in align with somebody on a different mindset and level.
Like I tell people all the time, the fighter stuff
and all of that stuff is really cool. But to
see somebody that has a pure heart and wants to
be and do better themselves and not really just for themselves,
(42:20):
but it's for God's work to make other people around
them shine and make the world a better place. If
we could bottle up Terrence McKinney's I would be so
down with it and sell it because the world really
does need a lot more people like you that are
(42:42):
doing it, not just for the payday or not just
for the belt, but for the love of God and
to spread that word and be a light to the
darkness a lot of people need. So I appreciate you,
you know, wholeheartedly. And if you ever need anything for me,
like I said, d shoe size, because I ain't forgot,
we give you than Black Air Force ones. But other
(43:05):
than that, honestly from the heart, truthfully, if you ever
need anything from me, even to vent or anything, I'm
always here for you and keep being the light that
you are because a lot of people need that in
this world.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
But I appreciate you, Yeah, I appreciate you guys too.
Real talk. You guys were lying, all right,
