Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Frugal Entrepreneurs podcast. I'm Miles and if
you're a frugal and if you're an entrepreneur, you need
to know about used online marketplaces. They're the best way
to sell and acquire used goods. Let's look at some
of my favorites for starters. McCary. When I mentioned McCary
to my wife, she says it's the best, and she's right.
McCary is a relatively new online marketplace selling everything under
(00:22):
the sun, and it's a fantastic platform for starters. Mrcary
has no seller fees. This means that you keep every
single penny that you make for mrcary. It's the only
platform I know of that does this. Second, McCary has
the best user experience out of any e commerce platform.
They make it extremely easy to sell and they make
the buying process extremely easy as well. Long story short,
(00:45):
check out McCary. Now, let's talk about a similar platform.
Poshmark is a used marketplace for clothes, home goods, and
related items. If I can't find clothing or home goods
on mrcary, I usually check poshmark. For example, my wife
was looking all over the internet for a vintage calendar,
and the only place she was able to find it
was Poshmark. So if you can't find a product on
(01:06):
another marketplace, make sure that you look on Poshmark or
check Poshmark first. It's the go to platform for many
online shoppers, especially women. Now let's look at some local
marketplaces for buying used goods. I love Facebook Marketplace. I
use it for both buying and selling, like I do
with many of these platforms. If something is too big
(01:27):
or annoying to selling chip online, then I'll sell it
through Facebook Marketplace. I've probably sold at least one hundred
items on Facebook Marketplace. I've also made some sweet deals
on Facebook Marketplace. For example, I traded one of my
guitars for a bass guitar that I freaking love. Talk
about a win win. I also bought my cozy couch
on Facebook Marketplace for just sixty dollars. Where else can
(01:50):
you buy a couch for sixty bucks? Well, there is
one other place, so let's move on to it. It's Craigslist.
Craigslist is the ancient king of local marketplace. It has
dozens of categories to choose from, and it's especially good
for finding home goods. They also have a free section,
which always surprises me when I look at it. Craigslist
is also an underrated way to buy and sell local services.
(02:14):
In fact, Craigslist is where I found my newspaper subscription
salesman job when I was eighteen years old. Lastly, Craigslist
has a very simple design, which makes it very nice
from a user experience standpoint. Despite Craigslist's age, it still
holds up as the king of local marketplaces. Now, let's
look at the king of online marketplaces. Can you guess
(02:35):
what it is? It's Amazon. It's the undisputed king of
online marketplaces, and they might be best known for their
new products, but they have an incredible selection of products
that are used, refurbished, on clearance, and sometimes free as well.
Through Amazon, I have bought a refurbished vacuum, used books,
(02:55):
and so much more. But let's put the e commerce
giant aside for now to talk about something far more
interesting niche marketplaces. Niche marketplaces are focused on a specific
product or industry, and by using a niche marketplace, you
may find a better deal, find exactly what you're looking for,
and even become part of a community. Let me give
(03:17):
you some examples of niche marketplaces for starters. Reverb. Reverb
is one of my favorite websites for buying used music equipment.
I bought an electric guitar and reverb back in twenty
sixteen and it came from an East Coast music store.
The owner of the music store was very kind and
he exceeded my expectations in many ways. And by buying
(03:37):
on Reverb, I got to support a small business. It
was a win for everyone. Next Threadup. Threadup is an
online consignment and thrift store. My wife has bought a
tone of clothes from them. The clothes are always in
good condition, they're very affordable, and they're often from reputable brands.
Next Bricklink. Bricklink is a website for buying and selling Legos.
(03:59):
Is owned by the Lego Group as definitely the best
way to find Lego parts and complete sets online. So
that's my quick and short list of favorite used marketplaces
and to recap they are Murcury, Poshmark, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Amazon,
and niche marketplaces. So whether you're a seller or buyer,
(04:21):
I know that these marketplaces will come in handy you
for you and thanks so much for listening to the show.
