Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Fuzz, where we envision the ideas we'll
all be buzzing about in the future.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
The Fuzz.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
The future, in.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
The future, in the future, in the future. While the
things we talk about on this podcast might seem impossible
(00:40):
or even slightly insane, so did automated baking machines, molecular gastronomy,
and edible glitter. Today these things have transformed how we
enjoy cake.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
I mean, you can't even eat it without the edible glitter.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
No way, that's right.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
On today's episode, we're talking about cake, that sweet, comforting
dessert that graces birthdays, weddings, and celebrations worldwide. But what
will cake look and taste like in the future. Let's
find out. Patrick, do you want to take us into
the time machine and show us what the future of
(01:21):
cake my taste like.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
I'd love to, But first, as we always do, step
into the time machine. I'm stepping out of the Fuzz
time machine, Shed and listeners, I find myself here in
(01:45):
the year twenty five fifty five, standing in front of
a Neon lt bakery with a floating holographic sign that
reads cake CAK three colon. The next gen confectionery experience.
Very weird, very weird. But the windows are lined with
(02:07):
glowing pastries and shimmering like galaxies. The drone is assisting me,
and it's looking through the windows. It looks like it's
it's greeting me. It's got a little chirpy voice. I
hear it. It says, welcome to Cake three, where flavor
(02:28):
meets future. Would you like to experience an edible memory today?
So I'm gonna step inside and I'll tell you it's
It's not like your Grandma's bakery, where the days of
simple vanilla and chocolate layers. It's it's not like any
cake I've ever seen. It's no longer just a dessert.
(02:50):
It's a multi sensory, personalized, mood enhancing experience. The bakery's bestseller,
I guess, is something they call neurocake. It's a personalized
emotion triggered treat. It's really cool. I can see it
here and I'm watching some other people behind the counter
(03:11):
talk about it. I guess. They use biometric scanning and
they do like a quick face and brainwave analysis. The
bakery could craft a cake flavor based on your mood memories,
or even your dreams. It's insane. If you want to
relive the taste of your grandmother's homemade birthday cake from
(03:32):
age six, these nanobots retrieve that exact flavor profile based
on your past brain wave patterns and bakes it into reality.
It's kind of cool. I mean it sounds cool. I
haven't tried the cake, but a marketer in a sleek
silver suit is behind the counter and he's giving an
(03:52):
enthusiastic pitch to a group of I guess investors or
maybe there are patrons. I can't really tell. He says something,
Hold on, I think you can hear him. Let me
see if I could turn up the volume.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
We're taking the industry by trained cake into nostalgia on demand,
every flight unlocked and memory keep being an emotional engagement
forget subscriptions are Neurocake keeps customers coming back because no
two slices caste the same.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
So I guess it looks like I'm reading this little
pamphlet and it looks like cake companies have fully embraced
this futuristic marketing game around doing something different with cake,
and so some of the biggest trends in this future
are limited edition, sensory cakes like we were just talking about,
(04:44):
you know something where people come in and they can
get cakes where brands have collaborated with life rights holders
for twenty first century celebrities and they create these cakes
embodied with their essence. So if you want to know
what it tastes like to be a rock star, you
can try the Edge sheeran cinnamon remix cake scientifically designed
(05:07):
to evoke energy and creativity in you. That sounds pretty cool.
They have hollow cakes which are like they have these
what we would call augmented reality toppings. I don't really
understand how it works, but it does look like it
lets you watch these personalized birthday messages right there and
you're eating the cake. And then they have the anti
(05:29):
cake movement, which is really weird, where they counter trend
the minimalist like invisible cake trend. I guess this is
where they're offering an experience with zero calories but all
the psychological satisfaction of eating cake. That's really weird. I
guess it just releases this dopamine that makes you feel
(05:53):
like you're eating cake. And then they have time release
cakes where they have layered desserts that change with each
bite over time. So it starts off as like vanilla,
and I guess it morphs into something like caramel and
then ending in like an espresso explosion. Right, So it's
really cool. This pamphlet kind of goes through all these
(06:13):
different dup cake trends in that I guess this place
does have those. So, Shad, I was just getting ready
to reach for my sample of the Fuzzberry blast. This
(06:33):
is something It sounded cool, and it was because I
was doing the fuzz episode and I was like, how
appropriate that I see this in the future. It was
a cake that replicated the exact flavor of childhood curiosity.
And then I got sucked back in through our time
machine and I was no longer able to do that.
But I did realize that in the future, cake is
(06:54):
not just about sugar, right, and this idea of eating cake,
it's more about the experience in a more personalized experience.
Pretty crazy.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Yeah, it seems like in the future cake is tapping
into your brain in a lot of different ways.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, a little different this time too, Like I was
able to kind of go through and have that experience
and report it as I was seeing it, which was
kind of an amazing feeling. You know, as opposed to
just being like coming back and telling you about it,
I was able to report it right there from the future.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yeah, you were on the scene keeping it to us live,
which was exciting. You know, we were getting it in
real time. So some of the things, you know, there's
a lot of different options there. Some of the things
of note or interest to me. There are cakes that
can kind of tap into memories or bring back a
memory you've had. Is that accurate?
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Yeah, what they call those are the neuro cakes, and
those are I guess really powered by these nanobots that
I don't know, scan your brand, scan your brain waves
or something. I don't know how those nanos work, but
I know what nanobots are. I just don't know how
they would use those and not be like intrusive to
your body because usually nanobots are like something that goes
(08:09):
inside your body. Yeah, So I don't know how that
works or all people have nanobots in the future. I'm
not exactly sure.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Do you know, do you choose the memory or is
the memory just organically occurring as you eat the cake?
Speaker 3 (08:22):
From what I could tell, they actually ask you and
you can recall something like I would really love this,
or you can leave it up to chance, like kind
of like surprise.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
So it could be like, I'll take a piece of
cake that tastes like the day we recorded fuzz episode one.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
They could do that, take.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
A bite of this delicious cake and go back to
that pivotal moment in time.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Maybe that was Fuzzberry Blast. Maybe that was because we
have a childhood curiosity.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Yeah. I was also really interested in the you know,
hollow cake, which is you're not actually eating cake, yeah,
but you're getting the experience of eating cake, which I
think a lot of today's you know, dieters, people who
are trying to watch their weight or you know, want
something sweet but they're trying to stay away from those things,
(09:12):
would eat that right up.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah. Oh that was called the invisible cake.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
That was the invisible cake. The hollow cake was something different.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Yeah, the hollow cake actually has like reality augmented reality topics. Yeah. Yeah,
but yeah, the invisible cake is pretty fascinating. It's interesting
because you think about, you know this and maybe we
talked about something like this in the past, you know,
from the future, but you know, this idea of feeling
like you're eating something or getting the satisfaction but not
(09:41):
actually eating it. I feel like there's something that's reoccurring
there in the future where it just gives you a
satiated experience without actually consuming something. That part is super
weird but also believable. I could see this happening, and
I did see it happen.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Yeah, so you were live in there, you were looking
at the menu, you saw these options. You know, we
know you were going to get the fuzzberry. You're thinking
about that one. What else? What were you going to grab?
What would you have ordered there? If you had more time?
Speaker 3 (10:14):
Being just someone here from the twenty first century, I
was thought the time release cake sounded really good. I
mean this idea of these different flavors sort of exploding
in your mouth over time sounded delicious.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah, I mean interesting. We could endlessly talk about the
cake options from the future and how it's just poking
around the brain.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
Well, I'm not really excited to hear your future.
Speaker 1 (10:40):
I mean, cake can take you anywhere. Let's find out,
you know, another future of cake. What it could look like,
what it could taste like, what it could feel like.

the cake, Live the dream Cake Time.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Oh that was wonderful.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Cake Time seems slightly ominous. I don't know what was
your take.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
Yeah, I mean, I guess you could hear that being
the beginning of like a weird horror movie, so it
could be ominest, But no, I think it sounds like
cake is the answer for everything. Every choice you make
seems like cake is involved, or it should be involved.
At least.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Cake seems to be the center of our lives in society,
where every day you're kind of eating cake. It keeps
the problems away, it keeps you happy. Much like today
people turn to, you know, stress eating in a moment.
It seems like cake has filled that role and almost
eliminated all stress, problems, emotions, tumults, thought, anything like that.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
It's sort of taken how people feel about some people
feel about cake today and just really exploded that into
or morphed into something bigger, more intense. You know, there's
like a certain intensity that they just ump the ante
right of like how people feel about cake today, And
(14:11):
they were like, this is going to be the centerpiece
pun intended maybe, you know, because cake is sometimes looked
at as the centerpiece of celebrations right today.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah, cake, sugar, these things are said to control us,
tap into our brains in some way. I get the
sense this is used in some sort of dubious way
to control people, almost in a matrix like environment. Eat
the cake. If you're not eating the cake, maybe you're
stepping out of line, so they want you to keep
(14:43):
eating the cake so they can control you.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
I didn't think of it like that, but that does.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Oh no, you didn't take it that way. You're like,
the cake sounds good. I'm just gonna eat the cake.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Yeah, maybe a brain washed me into thinking that I
wanted the cake. I was already on board. I'm like, okay, cake,
Like a.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Life of cake every day doesn't sound awful.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
Yeah. I was like, you know what, I'm getting kind
of tired Cake. What am I going to do after
I've done with this podcast? Cake? I mean, I was
already answering every question with cake. It seemed like it
was the right thing to do. I mean, it does
kind of make sense. Am I just am I being warped?
(15:30):
Is my mind being warped by cake?
Speaker 1 (15:33):
It's not just a dessert. It's a destiny.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
It's a destiny. Your destiny lies in this cake. I
like it. I don't know if I like them controlling me,
but I do like the idea of every answer being
as simple as cake.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Yeah, I don't know. That's just my read. And if
you wanted to get to people, cake would be a
good way to do it.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
Cake time, where it's always time for cake.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
You're hired.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
I mean, I think that I'm a perfect candidate to
be hired for cake because I was already sold on
it when you came back from the future.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
I was like, I mean, who better to sell it
to other people than the guy who hears the ad
one time? And You're like, I'm already signed up. I'm
sitting down. You have like a napkin tucked into your shirt.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Is that foreshadowing? We don't know who's to say, who's
to say? But if you can't find me, I'm probably
eating cake.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
It's a great line.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
What if you can't find me, I'm probably eating you.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Can't find me, I'm probably I mean, you should end
every meeting with that. Just let me know if you
have any questions. And if you can't find me, I'm
probably eating cake.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
People will be like, what, Well, it was an interesting
future of cake, I'll tell you that much. That's all
for this episode of The Fuzz. Tune in next time
for more of tomorrow's Buzz Today Day
