Welcome to the Fuzz, where weenvision the ideas we'll all be buzzing about
in the future. The fuzz, the future, Sure, in the future,
in the future, in the future, the fus f Now, while
(00:36):
the things we talk about on thispodcast might seem impossible or even slightly insane,
so did stem education, computers inclassrooms, and remote learning. Now
look where we are and look atus. On today's episode, we're talking
about the future of school. Wherewill we go to get learning? In
(01:00):
the future? Will schools even existanymore? You're about to find out where
are we going to go to getour learn on? How are we gonna
get learn? I mean, weknow our brains are not doing great right
now, so we're hoping for somethingbetter in the future. Are we gonna
get it? Or are we gonnajust, you know, slide down that
slope We never know, It's true, especially because it's a slippery slope.
(01:26):
That's the thing about slopes. They'reoften slippery. They're usually not super grippy.
That's true. So the future ofschool, let's find out what's going
on there. Patrick, do youwant to take us into the future of
school? I would love nothing more, But you know, as we often
do. You have to step intothe time shot. Welcome to the future

(03:49):
Wow. So first of all, that you know, voice Australian British
kind of fused together. I mean, the future is just internationally amazing in
that way in terms of what's happeningto language and accents. It's just coming
(04:11):
into an amazing place. It's amashup of sorts. Yeah, speaking of
mashups. So what we're talking abouthere is a school for humans who are
then becoming integrated with robots. Isthat what's happening. Yeah, it's a
school that teaches humans how to liveinside of their new robotic bodies. So
(04:33):
it's you know, simulated human roboticslearning shl Yeah. Yeah, so schrobotics.
The way they spell it is sforward slash h robotics, but it's
Schrobotics they you know for short,Schrobotics Academy. And this is the school
(04:55):
that you know, teaches people howto live and function in what they call
the infusion of their consciousness in therobotic body. So this is just their
minds going in there. It's nottheir actual bodies going in there. Correct,
correct, Yeah, that's your nextsuit. No, it's a yeah,
it's a human consciousness sort of beinginfused into this, you know,
(05:16):
mechanical body of sorts. We couldstipulate, but I guess we probably don't
know post death perhaps of the humanbody. Uh not super clear. I
mean it seems like it's it couldbe post death, but you know,
they're training them in this academy beforethey die so that they understand how to
how to function. I don't know. I feel like you would have to
(05:40):
have you'd have to be before death, slightly before death or something. So
you know, some people may bedoing it earlier in life than they probably
should. That would be my guess. You know, like if you were
a young person or even like amiddle aged person, I should say,
and you know, you're getting kindof up there and you're like, man,
I could just use a new bodyand potentially forever, you know,
(06:00):
because you're using your consciousness. Ithink that would be probably something that would
happen. You know, it's likea hip replacement, hm, but a
whole body replacement. You know, you get an upgrade. Yeah, and
you know this is just the name. There's no like Larry Schrobotic. No,
there's no, there's no schrobotic. What I noticed was this fusion of
(06:26):
the name, you know, thes Ford slash h capitalized. You know,
it's like you're simulating being a humanin a robotic form. You know,
man and machine coming together, thesingularity, if you will. Yeah,
so we can picture this future whichis kind of a EE robot or
something like that, where it's youknow, robots and humans kind of sharing
(06:49):
the earth together, walking around withinsociety. Obviously there's still humans around,
but many robots are filling this worldtoo. Doesn't sound bad though, get
the robot body I could use,you know, an upgrade of some parts
physically. What I think is kindof interesting is like this idea of having
an academy or a school which givesyou an edge, as they say in
(07:14):
there, over others who might begoing through this infusion process. Right,
So it's almost like you kind ofwant to have a better education so that
you can function. You have anedgery. You know, you can grow
and expand within that body better thansomeone else. So maybe you can get
potentially a better job because you havebetter I don't know, flexibility and vitility,
(07:41):
you know, that kind of thing, which I think is kind of
an interesting concept beyond just like,oh, you know, I'm in this
robot and I'm just like superhuman. It's all about functioning inside of that mechanical
skin suit, if you will.Yeah, I was thinking more about it
as like physically and emotionally adjusting. But that's a good point, Like this
is like the Harvard compared to maybeanother community college that's out there, or
(08:07):
maybe this is the community college comparedto another Harvard that's out there, I
don't know, Yeah, or justjumping in a suit and being like I
think I could just run with it, but you never really quite get a
handle. If you'd had that educationup front, you might have been better
off. So that part, tome is kind of a fascinating concept.
Yeah, you spend the rest ofyour robot days being like, God,
(08:28):
why didn't I just go to college? Well that's a good future. Let
me take you into another future,if you will, please step into the
time issue. Imagine a world whereeducation isn't just about textbooks and tests,
(08:54):
it's about brands and buzz. Well, that's what happened during the school Rush
of twenty ninety eight, when corporationsraced to see who could own a bigger
chunk of the national education market. The school rush was driven by two things.
One the ability of citizens to spendhigh value government credits at any school
(09:18):
they chose across the country, andtwo, the opportunity for companies to imprint
branding on the next generation by operatingthe education system. So what do corporate
sponsored schools of the future look like? Here are a few examples taken from
the school's marketing materials. I tryto find examples related to the companies we
(09:41):
know today. Most of them, you know, are companies that don't exist
at this point. Not a lotof context for that, But these ones
we've kind of heard of. Firstup, pick to yourself at Apple Academy,
where algebra meets innovation, students' calculateequations using Apple's latest devices, and
(10:03):
history lessons come to life with artours through pivotal moments in tech history.
Want recess, Head to the EyePlayground for some augmented reality dodgeball. Next,
hop over to Hasborough High where learningis a playful adventure. Math problems
(10:24):
might involve counting monopoly money, andScience class sees students engineering their own nerf
blasters lunchtime, dig into branded snackslike Transformers themed sandwiches, robots in disguise
never tasted so good. Finally quenchyour thirst for knowledge. At Coca Cola
(10:46):
College, Chemistry class explores the sciencebehind carbonation and physical education gets students moving
with power aid propulsion. The school'smascot, Busy the polar Bear, fires
up fans during games by flinging youguessed it, bottles of coke into the
crowd. In this future, educationisn't just about learning your ABC's. It's
(11:11):
about advertising, branding and consumer connections. Uh, that's that's a really interesting
brand collaborations with the schools or whatis what is that considered? Is it?
(11:35):
Yeah, they're like a brand sponsoredschool brand. They've essentially done is
you know, influenced the curriculum withtheir money and their power. You know,
in a way, we're kind ofpushing things away. I almost think
of the example of The Simpsons onetime where they had like a sponsored table
(11:56):
of elements that had boloneum on it. It's something it's kind of like almost
like a version of that, wherelike these corporations are coming. They're like,
yeah, we'll teach kids the basiccurriculum, but let's also put our
imprint on this, you know, and make it our own. And they're
each kind of doing that in theirown way. Yeah, the idea of
the Hasbro I really stuck with me. You know, this idea of you
(12:18):
know, counting with monopoly money andNERF building their own NERF blasters. Yeah,
that's pretty cool. It's kind oflike combination of STEM and there's like
that I don't know mathematical side ofit with Monopoly, but I could see
that going even further, you know, with a whole Hasbro High school.
(12:39):
So that was pretty cool. Thisis very similar to some things that whether
people understand that it's happening or not. Apple and Google and even Microsoft back
in the day have tried to infusethemselves into the school systems, right with
like, oh, you know chromebooks. You know how many schools have chromebooks
(13:01):
because if you get in with childrenyoung, they're likely going to use your
technology or your software or whatever lateron in life because they're comfortable with it,
right. So it reminds me alot of that kind of mentality,
which is very similar and you usethe Apple reference, but you could say
Google or Microsoft or any of thoseguys have done that, you know,
over the decades. So that's prettycool. Yeah, and that's why the
(13:26):
rush is. You know, oncethis kind of opened up where corporations could
do this, they could have schools, you know, and the government's kind
of giving them incentive to do sothey all kind of went after it mostly,
you know, that was part ofit. But the key was that
they're like, this is our opportunityto grab these kids young and get them
indoctrinated into our brand at a levelwe've really never been able to do before.
(13:50):
Yeah. So like when they growup, they're all they're going to
crave is nerve blasters. So thenegative consequence of this, I'm sure you
know, in the one hundred yearsyou could find that out. Yeah.
Yeah, people would just be like, you know, warped, you know,
with brand, brainwashed in some way, I mean, and in a
lot of ways, aren't we allanyway? You know? Yeah, yeah,
(14:13):
I think you know that future ofschools will flow nicely into the school
systems of the future, like SchroboticsAcademy. Yeah, I mean, sometimes
we have some futures that are verysymbiotic and you know, just kind of
go right together. These these twoare very different. Yeah, but shrow
(14:35):
Biotics itself, you know, isessentially a brand built school. So who
knows. Yeah, Well, aslong as as long as schools continue to
thrive, there will always be thefuture of schools. That's a good point
in neither one of our futures whereit's like there is no schools the end.
(14:58):
Well to very different, different, different futures, but totally possible,
as all things are. Yeah,So let us know what you think of
today's fuzz. But that's it forthis episode. Tune in next time for
more of tomorrow's Buzz. Today Today, to Today
