Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, welcome man.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is the Go Go Travel Show at the Pittsburgh
Travel showcase Johnny Hartwell, and on the microphone we have
Inchiro from Seattle Mariners.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Good to see you. No, yeah, you see ce Sebassia.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
No, we're talking baseball, right, we're talking baseball.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
This is Adam from the National Baseball Hall of Fame
and Museum. This is an absolute pleasure talking about baseball
when it's like ten degrees.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Right.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
We gotta keep things warm everywhere that we go, So
whether it's Pittsburgh or Cooperstown where we're located, we're always
trying to keep things hot.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Are you from Cooperstown?
Speaker 3 (00:36):
I am just in a town just north of Cooperstown.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
What is that town?
Speaker 4 (00:41):
Is Springfield Center?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Okay, all right, so you know what, I haven't been
to Cooperstown since I was like seven.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
And I've been planning a trip. It's on my bucket
list to go back. So this is kind of interesting.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
This is the first time I think I've seen somebody
from Cooperstown from the I'm here at the Travel show.
So have you been here to Pittsburgh before?
Speaker 4 (01:04):
I have not been at Pittsburgh or this show before.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Okay, we're we're trying to get into more consumer shows
like we are here today. Yeah, we generally attend a
lot of the tour group shows like National Tour Association
NTA or American Bus Association a b A. But we're
looking to get back into the consumer shows to get
our everyday guests to Cooperstown.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Now, pirate baseball isn't the you know, we haven't had
a stellar record over the last couple of decades, but
we are pirate, we are baseball fans. We we still
despite our record, we still come out to the ballpark,
and let's face it, it's one of the greatest ballparks in America,
and we have a long history of successful baseball and
(01:49):
there's plenty of pirates representing in in Cooperstown.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
So, uh so, why are you here? What?
Speaker 4 (01:55):
What?
Speaker 1 (01:55):
What are you trying to h What is the one
thing you want people to know.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
About the Hall of Well, I'm happy you brought that up, because,
as you mentioned, we do have a lot of pirate
representatives in the Hall of Fame, and to continue with
that this year, part of the twenty twenty five induction
class is Dave Parker, who spent a good amount of
his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates Cobra the Cobra. So
(02:21):
he led us to look more into the show and
get back into consumer shows. And what better place to
do it than in Pittsburgh, where one of our five
inductees is from.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, Dave Parker, the Cobra right field. I think you know,
he didn't get in the Hall of Fames as quickly
as he should have in my opinion, because he was
he he replaced one of the greatest right fielders in
the history of baseball. It's pretty hard to, you know,
live in the shadow of twenty one Roberto Plum.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
That is correct, and but I mean, what better way
to show that you are in the same fraternity as
Roberto Clemente and able to fill those same shoes that
he filled playing right field for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Like I said, I haven't been to Cooperstown in many decades.
So for those who haven't experienced the Hall of Fame,
what what do you have to offer?
Speaker 3 (03:18):
We have so much to offer in Cooperstown of the
National Baseball Hall of Fame. We are a located in
a gorgeous town, Cooperstown, New York, very small, quaint village,
one traffic light. So it's it's it's great to see
people's reaction once they get there. But we we are
our museum and a Hall of Fame. We have three
(03:40):
floors to our museum and three hundred and forty six
Hall of Famers soon to be three hundred and fifty one.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
So does does Coopertown describe Cooperstown for us? For people
who have never been there?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Oh, man, Cooperstown. It's it's a one traffic light, main
street town. It's right at the south end of Otsego Lake.
A lot of people in Cooperstown says that is actually
where the Susquehanna River begins.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Well, okay, it's a small town except for that week
of inductions, and that becomes a city almost.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
Oh, that place.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Turns into a city that no one could ever imagine.
But you get so caught up in the celebration of
the inductees of the Hall of Famers that you don't
want it to go by so quickly. This year, we
have the opportunity to celebrate five new Hall of Famers,
starting with Dick Allen, Dave Parker, Ichiro Suzuki, C. C. Sabathia,
(04:46):
and Billy Wagner.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
There are some and of course that just starts.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
That's just this year, and you can see all the
grades of baseball in one place.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
And not even just to mention the excitement that this
year has to offer with our induction class, but leading
up to that induction weekend at the end of July,
we will be opening up a brand new exhibit, Yaku Baseball.
What is that It's a transpecific exchange between Japan and
America with talking about how each country worked with one
(05:18):
another in the form of baseball, whether it was Major
League Baseball players going and playing in Japan or vice versa,
like we're starting to see a lot more of now
in Major League Baseball and in the celebration of our
very first Japanese Major League Baseball player becoming a Hall
of Famer.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
And he is such a great representative for the country
and of course.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
He's a huge ambassador for the sport.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
And you know, I think there's the controversy of Itchuro
is that there was one person who didn't vote for him,
But that's a testament of how great he really was
and is that is correct, and it's a lot of
what we see in here is the Hall of Fame
(06:02):
is the best of the best, and some of the
Hall of Famers have said, it doesn't matter if I
get seventy five percent or if I get on.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
I have a plaque on that wall. I am within
a fraternity that only that everyone dreams of being a
part of, and not to not to be that guy.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
But he's in good company.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Derek Jeter was also one vote away from being unanimous.
And we only have one Hall of Famer who was
unanimous from the BBWAA, and that it was with Mariano Rivera.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, yeah, and he's and there was no argument there.
He was the greatest of all ton So all right.
Obviously they can go to the Triple A Travel Agent
to get more information. But if they want more information
on the Hall of Fame, do you have a website
or something that.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
We do have a website.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
The best way to look look us up is on
our website www dot Baseballhall dot org.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Adam Haley of the National Baseball Hall of Fame Museum,
welcome to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
Thank you for your time and good luck this weekend.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Johnny, thank you as well.
