Speaker 1 (00:03):
As no travel show at the Pittsburgh Travel Show ocase
Johnny heart Well and have John att from Saint Kitt. So,
Saint Kitt, I imagine it's not it's a little warmer
in Saint Kitt right now, it's.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
A lot warmer.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I got here on Wednesday. I literally left.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
The coldest day of the year.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I left anty five degree weather and arrived in Pittsburgh
and it was ten degrees.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I'm so sorry. I feel like I feel like I'm responsible.
I'm so sorry. You know it's not. It won't be
hard to convince us to go to Saint kit. That
won't be at all.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Once you experience minus six degrees, it's suddenly eighty five.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
All right.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
So Saint Kitt. That's in the Caribbean. And look look
I got Bob Marley.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
I am, I am, I am. I am in love
with the Caribbean.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
I just love the weather, I love the culture and
everything else.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
But I don't know a whole lot about Saint Kit.
What do I need to know?
Speaker 3 (00:59):
So Saint Kits is actually the first island, I can
say country in the Western Hemisphere that was actually colonized
by birth. The British and the French so we were
the island where they colonized first before they branched out
to many other islands and then up into the mainland.
So that's the first. So it's saying it's a Neivas
(01:20):
of course. Alexander Hamilton was born in Nevis, Oh. Yeah,
and then in Saint Kit's Thomas Jefferson's great great grandfather,
Samuel Jefferson. He was the person to receive the first
land grant in the entire Western Hemisphere as well, So
we do have a bit of American ties.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
In terms of his historic connection.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yes, most definitely. We do have year round sunshine. It's
always summer.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
You don't have you don't have snow?
Speaker 3 (01:49):
No no, no, no, no no, then definitely not ten degree.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
You happy to take our snow back to Saint Kit
and you will trade we'll trade the weather for I.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Don't think we'll be that.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Happy, seriously, when it comes to Saint Kit, when it
comes to you know, when I think of the Caribbean,
I think of you know, the beaches and the ocean
and the tropical breezes. So what is the city that
is the largest city in Saint kat What is the
what is the area for the travel Okay.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
So first of all, we are only sixty eight square miles,
so we're very small. So you can get around the
destination in maybe like an hour and a half. So
we are very small, a population of about fifty thousand,
and that includes our sister island as well, Nevus, So
we're relatively small. But there's lots to do there. So
(02:46):
we have a lot of stuff to do. So what
we encourage our visitors to do, because we know a
lots of the other Caribbean islands, we are all about
the sun, sea and sand. But what we do is
that we encourage our visitors to come and venture depot.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
So you drive on the left or right.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
We drive on the left. Yes, we do drive on
the left. We still follow a lot of the British rules,
so we do drive on the left.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Because I've been to the Virgin Islands.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
And because they're us, well they still drive on the left.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Door.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
And when I'm driving, I'm like, stay left, stay stay left,
stay left, and you're and when you drive here in
the United States, you're.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Going to do the opposite. No, you've turned off the heat,
aren't you.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
And the seeds and the seeds. But we do encourage
you to venture deeper. We want you to come. We
want you to go on the tours. We want you
to zipline through the rainforest. We want you to hike
Mount Layamigo, which is our diamond volcano. We want you
to have our culinary experiences.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Tell us about the cuisine of saying Ka.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
So we have a lot of We have a diverse cuisine,
so you can come there. You can have your Indian food,
you can have have Thai food. But what we like
is what's local to us. So you'll get a lot
of fresh food. We are fishing and we are fishing countries,
so you get a lot of fresh lobster, local fish,
(04:12):
the snappers. We do have a number of restaurants where
you can go. At nights. You have a live band,
so sprat Net that's owned by brothers and sisters. It's
a family business. It's located in Old Road. They're fishermen
by trade, so what they catch is what they serve
to you. So say on a Wednesday and Friday nights,
(04:33):
they do have a live band. It's an open space.
You at picnic tables. You know, you can have your
fresh lobster, fresh fish. You want shrimp, you can have
babyco chicken ribs and you're just in this vibrant atmosphere.
You're hearing the music going and you're just having a
good time. What we call a lime don't say it
with lime, so it will be a live band. Sometimes
(04:55):
they do covers on local like Caribbean music, Soka songs,
or they might do Ara and B songs. But it's
really interesting and it pulls you in. One thing I
like about saying its as well is that on the
weekend time, we do a lot of babecue. So even
as you exit the airport and you're on your way
to the hotel, you might find a gorilla on the
site and you just pull up on the side and
(05:16):
you just say, hey, I would like some babecue chicken.
My favorite thing is the barbecue pork with garlic bread,
so I always tend to go for that as well.
But we just basically want you to come to the
island and have a pretty good time. It's not strange
to find tourists and locals mingling in the same spots.
It's not like everyone is just so friendly and warm.
(05:39):
So we'll always have you'll feel like you're at home.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Do you have a variety of resorts, you know, something
that is maybe a little more expensive.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Too, you know.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
So we have the only pak Hyatt in the Caribbean.
We do have the Marriotte as well, which you know,
and then we have a lot of other booty can
local resorts as well, so we have something to suit
everybody pocket.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
All right, So what is the one thing you want
people to know about Saint Kits something that maybe Americans
people in the United States may not be familiar with
Saint Kits.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
What's the one thing you want them to know.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
I Well, if you come to Saint Kits, we have
the most iconic backdrop. It's the most beautiful backdrop that
you'll ever see. It's Sir Timothy Hill. And the way
that you see it in the pictures, when you see
it in person is the exact same way. So you
look out and you see the Atlantic Ocean on your left,
and then you're seeing the Caribbean Sea on your right,
(06:35):
and as you look forward in the back you see
our sister island, Nevus that's covered in cloud tops, which
at that point on the island we are only two
and a half miles apart, so you can literally take
a water taxi and in under six minutes you'll be nevus.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
That is amazing.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
I would definitely I have to show you the picture
as it will take you completely away. But that iconic
lookout is something that everyone should experience and have pictures
of when they're in Saint Kids.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
All right, let me see she's checking out her phone here.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yes it's loading.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Okay, I got nothing to do and all day to
do it, especially we're talking about the Caribbean.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
But this is a photos so it is gorgeous. There
are times you can see the distinction of the Atlantic
and Caribbean because the Atlantic is sometimes more than likely
it's a bit rougher, but the Caribbean sea is always
a big camera, so sometimes it can see the difference
between the calmness, the roughness the colors. But it's completely
(07:39):
takes your breath away. That view is so amazing.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Is amazing, all right.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
So obviously if somebody wants more information, they can go
to a travel definitely. But if we want more information,
we just google Saint Kit or oh you.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Could always go to ww dot visit sinkits dot com
and on our website it will give your informations about
our hotels, our airlifts, how you can get there, and
things that you could do on island.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
All right, Johnette, thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
You're absolutely stunningly gorgeous and you come from a gorgeous island,
so thank you, good luck this weekend and appreciate your time.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
All the best,
