(02:11):
It's early evening in New York had at Novak's, a
smart camping spot on New York Seas side. The propriety
steps out of his office and surveys his domain.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
Obviously what he sees doesn't please him. Yes, mister Novak,
I'd like to see you. Sure, Haddy, take the stick.
Speaker 7 (02:28):
While you're the boss and I got business to disguis.
Speaker 6 (02:32):
What's on your mind? Mister Novak? Sadan, thanks.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Rank.
Speaker 6 (02:41):
You know I'm working. Is that what they call it? Eh?
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Take a look at these. That's last month's.
Speaker 6 (02:47):
Take, three seventy four. Not good.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
That's the understatement of the year. Polari. We're fourteen grand
off April. When I gave you the job as manager.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
I guaranteed I could double the take.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Uh huh.
Speaker 7 (03:00):
To understand, mister Novak, things have changed. I couldn't figure
it on Laskar opening his joint just two blocks away. Well,
what do you intend to do about?
Speaker 6 (03:06):
What can I do?
Speaker 7 (03:07):
Of course, if this was the old days of Chicago,
I could handle it easy enough, like I once tole
out you know al Capone. There's only one way to
deal with the character like Alaska. Take care of him.
Take care of him, you know what I mean? And
you do that for me?
Speaker 6 (03:21):
That's nothing. If I thought it would help, I'd cut
off my right arm.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
I'm touched.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
I mean it.
Speaker 7 (03:26):
I'm not much for talking, but you've been real swell.
All you've got to do is say the word.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
All right, Larry, I'm saying it, take care of Laskar. Well,
aren't those the right words? Look, mister Novak, what's the trouble?
You just said you'd do anything in the world for me.
Speaker 7 (03:44):
Well, well, I suppose I talked to Alaska first.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
There's been too much talk already. I think a little
action is indicated. You've got a gun, pilary or will
you use mine?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Don't you? Monty?
Speaker 6 (04:08):
Yes? Again, Alaska?
Speaker 7 (04:10):
Who are you?
Speaker 6 (04:11):
Honey?
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Fladdy? Maybe you heard of me. I can't have I
work for Frank Novac. How'd you get in here?
Speaker 6 (04:18):
Never mind? I'm here. That's all that counts.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
You may have a point there. I do pay off
on results, don't they. However, mister lady, i'd advise.
Speaker 7 (04:30):
You get away from that bus, get away, ask go
or I'll plug you.
Speaker 6 (04:35):
I mean it.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
You're kind of new at this, aren't you.
Speaker 8 (04:38):
Huh?
Speaker 2 (04:39):
What's the trouble? Could Novak find a more qualified man?
Speaker 6 (04:42):
I'm doing all right. I got in here, didn't I.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
There must be an answer for that thought escape Smith
at the moment. What's on your mind?
Speaker 6 (04:50):
You want to know? Novak warant you to shove up
chap Let.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Me ask you something plenty. How much does NOVEC pay you?
What differences that make you look like a bright boy?
How would you like to go to work for me?
Speaker 6 (05:06):
Eh?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
You could start right now.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
I'll look Alaska. If you think you'll come buy me off.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
I'll pay five thousand for that gun. Five stars I
know of I would never know.
Speaker 6 (05:18):
You're crazy. He'd find out in ten minutes.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
He needn't tell him. You couldn't get to me.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
I don't like those kind of jokes, Laska.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I'm not joking, he said ten grand I said five.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
Where's it?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Dough in my desk, sir, I'll get it. It's in
the top drawer. You'll find twelve one thousand dollar bills
in an envelope. Just leave the other seven there.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
Wouldn't I be a chump to do that all right, Alaska,
Well you take it.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Don't feel fooled, blessy.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
You didn't really think you were going to buy away
out of this.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
I certainly did. You couldn't walk out if you're alive.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
I'd like to see someone stop me.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
What would be fairly simple. You see, there's a recorder
in the basement that it's taking down every word of
this dialog. When you get downstairs, you'll find a couple
of boys ready to I assure you out you'll lie it,
think so. I'll be glad to show you the microphone.
Er meat, isn't it looks like a cigarette box, doesn't it?
Speaker 6 (06:25):
Why you dirty?
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Now?
Speaker 2 (06:26):
There's no reason to be annoyed, Bloody. I'm still willing
to stand by my end of the bargain. Keep five
thousand dollars and let me have the gun.
Speaker 6 (06:37):
Although I know you won't have me knocked off.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
You have my word.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
That's a hot one.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Naturally you wouldn't understand, but a gentleman's word is his bond.
In any event, you have no choice.
Speaker 6 (06:51):
Noveck ever finds that he'll kill me. You should have.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Thought of that before. Now. May I have the gun? Please?
Thank you? Yes, I wouldn't be all surprised. If this
proves a wonderful arrangement.
Speaker 7 (07:04):
You won't be sorry, Laska. I'm the kind of guy
if you asked me to cut off my right.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Arm, I made that, all right. Letty keep in touch.
I'll have something for you real soon. But don't call us.
We'll call you.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
No, he hasn't come back yet, mister Novak.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
That's funny. Red, did he call in? Not that I
know of what time he got quarter past? Some better
check his hotel he should have. Well me again, I'll
get it. Yes, I'd like to talk to Frank Novak. Please,
this is Novak speaking.
Speaker 6 (07:49):
You got a tony pletty working for you?
Speaker 3 (07:52):
Why?
Speaker 9 (07:52):
I just thought you might be interested. He sold you
out to Lask Come again, Lask. I bought him off,
paid him five thous Who is this? Let's just say
I'm a trouble maker.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
You wouldn't care to leave your name?
Speaker 6 (08:07):
No, I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
I just want to show my gratitude.
Speaker 9 (08:11):
That's all right, No, Vac, I'll get my kicks reading
the papers.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
You hung up? Did you hear that? Red?
Speaker 6 (08:21):
What do you think?
Speaker 3 (08:23):
I think I made a mistaken PALTI I never should
have dealt with an amateur wear bracket in Detroit and
ask him to send us an expert. On second thought,
ask him to send a couple. We'll find enough work
to keep him busy.
Speaker 6 (08:49):
Mike Wearing.
Speaker 10 (08:52):
Hello, Marie, Well, I suppose you want to see Tony?
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Is he in? Thanks?
Speaker 8 (08:59):
Tony, you got a visitor with Honey?
Speaker 10 (09:02):
Come out and say, well, Mike Wearing you old so
and so on?
Speaker 6 (09:07):
What are you doing here? Well?
Speaker 3 (09:09):
I was in the neighborhood, so I thought i'd dropped by.
Speaker 11 (09:10):
Well, if you're not a site for sol, right, Hey, Marie,
put up a pot of coffee, will you, sweetie?
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Now, I don't bother. That's no bother at all, right.
Speaker 8 (09:17):
Honey, when have you ever been wrong?
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Fu?
Speaker 4 (09:19):
A girl always got a comeback, so I've noticed.
Speaker 11 (09:22):
Hey, Mike, you remember that night around Onheim when you,
me and Irving Fox went out on that patrol and
Irving brought in that prisoner.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Only he turned out to be a chicken colonel from
the seventy sixth Division.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
Oh that was a night.
Speaker 11 (09:33):
I was just saying to Marie the other night, I
haven't seen you were Irving inh.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
It seems like years not to me get hurt, always clowning.
Speaker 8 (09:41):
Yeah, that's me, Milton Burl. If you'll move out at the.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Table, please don't trouble yourself. I just stopped by to
see if everything's under control.
Speaker 6 (09:50):
Why shouldn't it be?
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Well, I don't know whether you've heard Soldier, but you've
got a namesake in town. There's another Tony Paletti.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
You call that news.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
According to the phone book, they're of them in New York.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Well, the one I had on mine works for a
gambler named Frank Novak. So so I got to rumble
at A couple of hoods just moved in from Detroit
looking for him.
Speaker 6 (10:08):
What's that got to do with me?
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Nothing? I hope that these boys are kind of trigger happy.
I'd hate to see him make a mistake.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
Listener, Marie ain't either, limit how.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
Mistakes have happened before Tony, and how they finally caught
up with murder incorporated.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
I got the wrong man.
Speaker 8 (10:24):
What do you think he should do?
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Well, I've already called the police and a few people
have no objection. I'd like to stick close for a
couple of days, right of your mind?
Speaker 8 (10:31):
Why I think it makes sense?
Speaker 6 (10:33):
Now? Look, and he's nothing to worry about.
Speaker 8 (10:35):
What do you mean it's nothing to worry about. Didn't
you just hear what I'm saying?
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Mike was always a great warrior. You should have seen
him at Remagen.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Well, just the same, Tony, if you don't mind do
mine today, I need a nurse maid.
Speaker 11 (10:45):
I'll be ready for the old soldiers home. Come on, captain,
drink your coffee. We're going to fight the Battle of
the Bulls all over again. Eighty six Precinct Corbett.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Hello, Sergeant Mike Wearing.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
Oh I knew my luck couldn't hold lad the minute
I woke up this morning.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
I read my horoscope and it said beware.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
You know if someone tapped his phone, they wouldn't realize
how much you love me. I hide it real well,
don't I? What's on your mind?
Speaker 4 (11:24):
What's the latest? And that Tony POLLETTI mess?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
We still don't know who's behind it, but from what
I hear now, the boys who were imported for the
job went back to Detroit.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Where did you pick that up?
Speaker 3 (11:34):
I'm Stuley and he claims they left without finding POLLETTI. Yeah,
it doesn't make sense now. Look, they wouldn't leave without
doing that job, not pros.
Speaker 6 (11:42):
What's your interest in this anyway.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
I told you I've got a buddy with the same handle.
I'd hate for any accidents to happen. Oh no, you're
getting to be a real old lady. I'm serious, Corbett,
so am I? Oh you needs a rocking chair and
you could pose for Whistler's mother.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Maybe I'll get you one for Christmas. Taxi, Taxi done, Dave.
Let's go.
Speaker 12 (12:20):
A cab.
Speaker 13 (12:22):
Oh going our way, fellow, we'd be glad to give
you a left.
Speaker 6 (12:26):
No thanks, what's the matter? You're bashful?
Speaker 8 (12:29):
Who are you?
Speaker 6 (12:30):
Oh that's not important. Question? Is are you Tony Pletti?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
That's right.
Speaker 13 (12:35):
I was just telling Dave here. I thought i'd recognize you.
Remember me, No, Harry Froeman. We did a hitch in
the navy together in the Pacific. That's a good trick
because I was with the army in the Atlantic Atlantic Pacific.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
What's the difference. It's all one world.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Get in.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
You got the wrong POLLETTI, I.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
Don't think so. I tell you you're making a mistake.
Speaker 13 (12:57):
Soon find out. Let's go No, okay, Sacker, then take
it here.
Speaker 14 (13:23):
Forty five minutes have passed since Tony Pileetti was shot
down on a street corner.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
Now we find Mike wearing.
Speaker 14 (13:30):
Down at the Morgue an answer to Sergeant Corbett's call.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
All right, Jim, what's the idea if you think spending
a Sunday afternoon, here is my idea of fun?
Speaker 4 (13:38):
Your crazy?
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Well, I want you to identify your body and that's
for you to decide, all right, ask on?
Speaker 4 (13:47):
Oh, no, you know him? You know I know him.
It's Tony Paletti.
Speaker 6 (13:53):
I warned you about this. I had a high No, Mike,
but what could we do?
Speaker 3 (13:57):
You refuse police protection, wouldn't even let you hang around?
How did it hap ear? They were like eight thousand eyewitnesses?
So we got eight thousand different versions. The best we've
been able to put together is your friend was waiting
on the corner of Amsterdam and seventy third when this
blue nash pulled up. The driver got out.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
Let him have it took off?
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Anybody get the license number?
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Yeah, stolen from a doctor in Brooklyn who left the
keys in the car. Seen enough, it's too much? Well
I ordered it pick up on the other Tony PILLERTI.
He oughtn't know who was responsible. But until you find him,
you stimmied. Well, you aren't. Somebody's got to break the
news to his wife. What do you mean, Marie, hasn't
been told yet? Now looks like you're elected.
Speaker 6 (14:41):
And now listen, call served in your outfit, Mike.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
That's the least you'll now hop to it like a
good kit.
Speaker 10 (15:04):
Hello, Marie, you're looking for Tony isn't home.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Will you mind if I come in?
Speaker 12 (15:09):
I want to wait, all right with me? I don't
know why I put up with it. He has no consideration.
Promised to be home at five, probably met a couple
of boys starting to fight the.
Speaker 6 (15:21):
War over again.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Yeah, well, listen, Marie, there's something I've got to tell you.
Speaker 8 (15:26):
What did he do?
Speaker 4 (15:27):
He didn't do anything.
Speaker 8 (15:28):
Don't kid me. I know Tony got himself in the
mess and he sent you here to square it. But
you can tell him for me.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
No, No, you don't understand. Tony's been hurt.
Speaker 8 (15:38):
Where is he?
Speaker 6 (15:39):
Well?
Speaker 8 (15:39):
Where I want to see him?
Speaker 4 (15:41):
You can't.
Speaker 8 (15:41):
I can't.
Speaker 4 (15:42):
No, he's dead.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
No, No, I'm sorry, Marie.
Speaker 8 (15:48):
I don't believe it. It's not true.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
Yes, I'm afraid it is. I identified him for the police.
Speaker 8 (15:53):
No, there must be some mistake.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
It was they got the wrong Tony POLLETTI.
Speaker 8 (16:00):
Would you get me some water?
Speaker 6 (16:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (16:01):
Sure, and maybe you'd like something a little strong.
Speaker 8 (16:04):
No, I'll be all right.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
Here you are.
Speaker 8 (16:09):
Thanks. Nobody could tell him anything?
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Well, actually, who could figure this would happen?
Speaker 6 (16:19):
You?
Speaker 8 (16:19):
Did you warn him just a couple of days ago,
But he was too smart to listen. He knew everything.
Speaker 4 (16:23):
Look aren't you being a little hard on him?
Speaker 8 (16:24):
I think it's going to be easy for me.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
Oh I suppose not.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Well?
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Look, have you got any family? We can notify his family?
There's some friend or relative who could stay with you.
Speaker 8 (16:33):
I got a brother in Newark.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
I suppose we get him over here.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
If you let me have his phone, I'll call him myself. Listen, Marie,
I promise you one thing. I'll get the party who
was responsible.
Speaker 12 (16:45):
It makes you feel better, go ahead to me. It
makes no difference. Won't bring Tony back, But you do.
Speaker 8 (16:52):
What you like.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Homicide Carbon, it's me, sergeant. Oh how are you, Mike?
Did you see missus Palletti? Yep'd she take it just
the way I expected? Carry on much? No, not, Marie,
she's your pioneer type. What's the news that your end?
We just picked up Tony Paletti. Oh you mean the
genuine article. Yeah, I want to talk to him. Well,
I haven't had a crackhead of myself, but if you hurry,
(17:27):
you can join the party. I try and make it
real soon.
Speaker 7 (17:37):
You fellas ain't going to get away with this. Don't
think you ought. I know my right anyone abusing him?
Speaker 6 (17:41):
Play? Where do you come off pulling me in?
Speaker 3 (17:44):
I told you you could go as soon as you
answer a few questions. And I told you I'm not
doing any thought. I'll listen. You'll take it easy, Corbett,
He's right. What if he won't cooperate, there's nothing you
can do. Now you're being smile? You think so well?
I can book he as a material witness.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
I wouldn't know. What would you do, mister Waring?
Speaker 4 (18:02):
I would let him go?
Speaker 6 (18:04):
Now you talk? Shut up?
Speaker 3 (18:06):
So you'd let him go? Yeah, of course you can't
help it if the boys catch.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Up with him.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
What are you talking about? Eh?
Speaker 3 (18:16):
There was some Detroit who gunned the other Tony Piletti.
I guess they must have discovered their mistake by now.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
Yeah, all right, Pillertti beat it? Well?
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Have you been complaining? You wanted to leave, but don't
come crying as when you get a half a dozen
slugs in your belly. Well what are you waiting for? No,
I don't want to go at a boarding house.
Speaker 7 (18:34):
You've got to protect me. That's the law. It's your
job to see nothing happens.
Speaker 4 (18:38):
What could happen?
Speaker 6 (18:39):
You know they're after me? Oh? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Come on, Pillai, who is it?
Speaker 6 (18:42):
I tell you, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
What do you think, Mike? The man's obviously suffering from
a persecution company. Oh well then jail certainly isn't a
place for Oh, definitely not. I'd get him out on
the street as soon as possible.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
No, no, I'll tell you it's Frank Novak.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
Why is Novaca after you?
Speaker 6 (19:00):
He got some screwy idea I sold him on? Did
you you take me for a rat? Yes?
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Who does Novak think? You made the deal with.
Speaker 6 (19:10):
Geraldsk ger Alaska? Huh?
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Well that ought to give us enough to go on.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
All right, Pilletti, you can go. You said I could stay.
You promised they killed me if they get me out. Okay, Okay, Hascal,
we're holding.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
Pilletti in protective custody. Give him the Royal suite, all right,
go on, they'll take care of you.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
Thanks Sachant, you will be sorry.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Don't give ar, nice boy?
Speaker 6 (19:37):
How do you think tried to get him?
Speaker 3 (19:39):
Sounds like Novak could be Laskar too.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
There could be.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Well you take one, I'll take the other. Let's hope
that between us we wind up with the killer in
the middle.
Speaker 6 (20:01):
Looking for someone French?
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Where is Frank Novak hit himself? Woo you hurt me?
You're just trying to page apart?
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Is that his office?
Speaker 6 (20:08):
Wait a minute, fuster, Mister Novak is busy. I think
you'll make time for me. I told you something.
Speaker 4 (20:15):
Hello Novak.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Well, if it isn't that high flying bird, the falcon.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
I think he needs his wings clip? Have you other
boy to do it?
Speaker 3 (20:22):
That's enough, Mister Waring's an old friend of mine, and
I wouldn't say that. Look it's all right, Red, I
can handle this and I'll get back to the floor.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
I'll be seeing you. Mister. You got a date.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
I don't think he likes you. Mike, on the other hand,
who does you got a point? There? We preeze? He
here Tony Paletti, huh, not the one who worked for you,
but the one who was murdered this afternoon.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
And I got a feeling you were responsible.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
And don't be silly. I didn't even know the man.
Neither did the killers. That was the trouble. I meant
to get the other one. Where'd you pick that up
from the original? He told you I was sore at him,
weren't you? Of course, not just between us. I think
the man's crazy. Look Novak Tony. He was my friend,
and naturally you want to avenge his murder. I'm going
to know, Mike. I like your attitude. I'm not clowning either,
(21:07):
am I said. All you've got to say, No, I've
had lots more have to keep. I just remembered I
got a call to Mike. But drop around again when
you're in the neighborhood. Only give us a little notice
next time. I'd like to be ready for you.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
I'm man child. I'll answer it.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Hello, I'll ask her.
Speaker 6 (21:31):
I'll take it easy. This is a peaceful mission.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
I may have permitted my doubts. Okay, have your boy
frisked me?
Speaker 2 (21:38):
That's exactly what I had in mind.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
He's not the talkative type, is he.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
I prefer it that way. Sit down, thank you, drink?
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Why not? Was Mike wearing around to see you. No, Well,
he will be. I just spoke with him.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
He's investigating the Tony Politti murder Tony Pilletti.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Seems they're a couple of them. This one was killed
by mistake. I wonder who could have blundered me too.
Werring thinks it was one of us. Absurd and that's
what I said. But he didn't seem too convinced. I
think he ought to be straightened out.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
I'm not sure I understand you, Novak.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
This guy Wearing can get into more hair than the
you Tony. If he gets into ours, the least they'll
do is to close us up.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
That would be a pity.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Now, I know a couple of boys in Detroit know things.
What's the matter.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
Detroit friends don't seem to be too effective. I prefer
the local product.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Got someone in mind, Harold, you mean the dummy.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
As you pointed out, Harold isn't given to talk, but
he is a craftsman. It's a tools. Harold, and give
mister Novak a demonstration.
Speaker 14 (23:01):
Twenty minutes have passed since mister Lasker's boy Harold was
instructed to give Mike Wearing a demonstration of his talents. Now,
I was the unwilling subject and the sergeant Corbett get
out of the elevator. They compare notes. So you tucked
to know that got nowhere?
Speaker 6 (23:17):
Eh?
Speaker 3 (23:18):
And you admit you didn't do any better with Laskar. No,
I can't say as I did. Well, let's go in
and hold a coup. Hey, your mouse open? What do
you make of these scratches?
Speaker 6 (23:28):
Eh?
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Near the lock?
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Someone used a gimmick. There must have company. Yeah, light
we let it ready, Okay, kick it open? Get down,
all right, Mike. Yeah, the flash came from behind the sofa.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
All right, you come on, throw your gun in the
middle of the floor.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
I'm going in after it.
Speaker 6 (23:54):
Don't make like a hero. Your last chance, feller. I'm
going to count the three he is. I think you
got him.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Don't move, he's awful.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
Quiet.
Speaker 4 (24:06):
Come with me while I hit the lights. You got him?
Speaker 6 (24:11):
It looks like turn them over. Well, what do you know?
Speaker 4 (24:17):
You recognize him?
Speaker 2 (24:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (24:18):
They call him a dummy. His name is Harold Plant.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
I don't know what he had against me.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
You were trying to find Tony Palletti's killer.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
You think this is our boy?
Speaker 6 (24:27):
He worked for Laskar. But I didn't see last girl
but I bet Novak did.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
If I will get you ten, they plan this little
surprise together.
Speaker 4 (24:35):
Yeah, you're probably right. Get him out of here.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
William, Hey, where are you going over to see missus Pilletti?
Just make sure you don't leave the place in a mess.
Hello Marie, Thanks, you just dropped by to report the latest.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Thanks.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
No, oh, my brother's here from Newark. He you stepped
out to get a paper.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
Did you make any arrangements for Tony's funeral?
Speaker 8 (25:08):
You don't have to be afraid to say the word.
It's going to be tuesday? Are you coming?
Speaker 6 (25:12):
Of course?
Speaker 8 (25:13):
You think of anybody else that should be notified? Let
me know.
Speaker 4 (25:17):
I call the boys myself. They almost had a double header.
Speaker 8 (25:20):
What do you mean?
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Some hood was waiting for me in my apartment. Luckily
Sergeant Corbett proved a better shot. Was it a boy
they called a dummy?
Speaker 6 (25:29):
He works for Alaska.
Speaker 8 (25:30):
Do you think he was the one that killed Tony?
Speaker 4 (25:32):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
The one thing the eyewitnesses who saw the murder said, Tony,
talk to the man who shot him.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
This boy was a mute.
Speaker 8 (25:39):
Maybe he was the one driving the car.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
I doubt it.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Well, it's not important as a matter of fact, it's
very important. How did you know there were two men
involved in Tony's murder? You said, so, I don't see
how I could have. I didn't know it myself. According
to the reports there was only one.
Speaker 8 (25:54):
So I made a mistake.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Yes, you did, angel a bad one.
Speaker 8 (25:57):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (25:58):
You were responsible for tony murder?
Speaker 8 (26:00):
You feel all right?
Speaker 4 (26:01):
And you heard me tell him his namesake was in trouble.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
It gave you ideas, crazy.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Mister Figurret. It was too good an opportunity to miss.
Why did you do it?
Speaker 2 (26:08):
Marie?
Speaker 4 (26:09):
He loved you.
Speaker 8 (26:09):
You know you can be pretty dull.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
If you think I am.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
Wait to get a load of Sergeant Corport. Get your
coat're going down to headquarters.
Speaker 8 (26:16):
Okay, it'll make you happy.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
Hold it, Just leave your bag right there.
Speaker 12 (26:20):
I wouldn't expect me to go out with a good
looking man without pottering my nose.
Speaker 10 (26:23):
I said, drop it, Come on, Marie, drop it.
Speaker 4 (26:26):
I'll break your arm.
Speaker 10 (26:27):
Frankly after you're a little stunt. I don't even need
that much excuse.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Well just goes to show you what whatever I thought,
this was just a case of a dame trying to
get rid of her husband, and I would have if
I'd had any brains.
Speaker 6 (26:56):
The signs where they're all along, Corbet, I don't see where.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
You told me I was from Detroit, left town without
finding the other Tony Pilletti. That should have been the
tip off who my information could have been wrong? Why
did she do it anyway?
Speaker 4 (27:09):
That's what got me.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Then I realized her brother from Newark must have supplied
the motive.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Eh, he wasn't her brother?
Speaker 3 (27:16):
You mean the two s you suppose Tony knew? No,
he was the trusting type. I can't help thinking it's
all my fault. I don't be as sad. Well, if
I hadn't told him about the other Tony Pilletti being hot,
the stunt might never have occurred. To Marie, don't kid yourself.
When a dame like missus Pilletti makes up her mind
(27:38):
about something, that's it. She didn't need anyone to give
her ideas, she had plenty of her own, and her
last one was murder Well, good night, sergeant.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Welcome back, A really good job of misdirection. I did
not suspect the wife at all, with the sort of
gangland shenanigans that they had going on the whole episode,
and what appeared to have happened was very plausible. Maybe
the word on the street was wrong and some other
(28:23):
talent was hired, and one way or another, the job
got botched and the wrong man got killed. I will
also say that having a mute hit man is a
really cost efficient thing to do in a radio drama.
I did chuckle also at Corbett ordering the civilian private
detective to kick down the door. Kind of feels like
(28:46):
that should have been Sergeant Corbett's job. All right, well,
listener comments and feedback now, and we have a comment
on the case of the fatal fix for Mechanics six
six' eight to. Two he, WRITES i Hope mike mailed
out that five hundred, dollars since that's all he got.
PAID i like of the cops of these shows don't
(29:07):
need arrest warrens or. Proof they just need any, old
circumstantial evidence to arrest someone for. Murder, WELL i guess
it does make it convenient when you want to gather.
SUSPECTS i will say in The falcons defense that typically
when they arrest, someone When mike is expecting them to
be locked, up he finds that they've been released due
(29:30):
to lack of, evidence SO i guess that's their nod to.
Realism speaking of, Realism Ryan Sir wright's regarding the case
of The Weeping, WILLOW i Knew reynolds was a crooked
cop as soon as he wasn't excited about stopping a narcotic.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Stealer fair. POINT i don't.
Speaker 14 (29:51):
KNOW i might have.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Written that off as him not being very easily excited
if not for the at that he was played By Ralph.
Bell that's the bigger thing for. Me BUT i probably
wouldn't have caught, that but that probably is a fair.
Clue and then a comment From mechanic six six' eighty
(30:13):

(31:17):
of one of television's most. ICONIC programs i don't think

team had his phone number and could get him to
come in and act, FOR them i. Couldn't imagine given
their ambitions for the series to spur a film series
(31:41):
that Would Challenge, JAMES bond i doubt that they would
just use him in such a limited capacity if they could.
Get him and from what, We Know raymond bird did
not do a lot of radio work after He Started.
Perry mason the ONLY thing i can confirm one hundred
(32:02):
