(01:13):
But now, from July thirteenth, nineteen fifty two, here is
the case of the Running Waters.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Hello.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yes, this is the Falcon speaking. Okay, I'm glad you called.
Now i'd have to have a rain checkains I'm leaving
tonight for Italy.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, I just heard.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
When it comes to murder, there's no place like Rome.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Once again, the National Broadcasting Company brings you the transcribed
Adventures of The Falcon, starring Less Damon, the Adventures of
the dedicated to private investigators everywhere, those hard hitting detectives who,
like Mike Wearing, risk their lives to aid law enforcement agencies.
So join him now when the falcon solves the case

(02:14):
of the running Waters.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Have you ever wondered why Rome wasn't built in the day.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Maybe I can explain they didn't use American labored Take
a craftsman like Steve Waters. Mister Waters is the rugged
looking citizen saundering down the eighth floor carter of the
Hotel National. He just arrived in Rome and hour ago,
without baggage and without friends, and already he's got a gun.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
And a girl. And that's what I call a fast worker. Yes, you,
Marie Antelescill, That is right. Well, I must say this
is a pleasure. I'm Steve Waters.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
I beg your pardon.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
You never heard of me? No, that's funny. I'm an
old friend of your family. Matter of fact, I just
saw your father.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
Yes, he saw my father.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, any sense is love.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
But that is impossible. My father is in book. I
do not understand Romania is behind the iron curtains.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, yet apparently I can get in or out anytime
I want. I guess I must be a magician.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
Huh, you are a comintern agent.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
That's a possibility.

Speaker 5 (03:19):
What have you done to my father?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Nothing? Absolutely nothing. It looks real fine, you'd think prison.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
Agreed with he is in prison?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Or didn't you know? I'm sorry, but you don't have
to worry. He won't be there long either way. No,
you sure?

Speaker 5 (03:35):
I want nothing from.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
You, not even your father's life.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
What do you want, mister Waters?

Speaker 2 (03:42):
All right, I'll make it short and sweet. Now, you're
kind of friendly with a boy named Kirby Patterson.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
How did you learn that?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
I probably know more about Kirby than you do? For instance,
did you know he's with American Intelligence?

Speaker 6 (03:56):
No?

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, yeah, he's a spy just like I am. Only
he's working the other side of the street. And his
current assignment is to meet a man in Rome named
Mike Wearing. Only it's not going to make it.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
He isn't.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
No, No, you're going to see.

Speaker 4 (04:09):
To the get up?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Okay? Oh well, anything you wanted to tell your father?

Speaker 5 (04:17):
Well, what is it you wish?

Speaker 2 (04:22):
When do you expect to see Kirby again? Well? I
suppose it too. If you have a drink up here
before you go out, only when you pour Kirby's add
the contents.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Of this bottle, you expect me to poison him.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
No, let's not jump to conclusion. Now. This won't kill him.
It will only put him out long enough for me
to keep his appointment.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
You are going to pretend to be Kirby. I will
not do it.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Look, Marie, let's not argue. We both know you will.
Just take care of that bottle.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
Where are you going?

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Is this your bedroom? Don't intend to you? See? I
figure you and Kirby need a chaperone, what with this
drinking and such, So I just keep an eye open
and see that you don't get into trouble.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Three.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
I don't like the way you look. You're sure you
feel alright?

Speaker 5 (05:24):
I feel fine, Kirby? What makes you say such a thing?

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Your hands are like eyes. I'm going to get your coat.
Where is it in the bedroom?

Speaker 5 (05:32):
Don't go in there.

Speaker 7 (05:34):
I hate to be treated like an instant. At soon
someone would think I was helpless. Yes, I tell you,
I'm all right. I just need a drink.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
All right? Where do you keeping?

Speaker 5 (05:47):
Never mind, I've fixed it myself.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
You're not gonna let me do anything tonight?

Speaker 4 (05:53):
What will you have scotch on the rugs?

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Herby? You know why I love you?

Speaker 2 (06:02):
I certainly hope you do.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
I would die if anything happened to you.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Now, what brought that on?

Speaker 5 (06:10):
I just hope you understand sometimes we cannot help ourselves.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Okay, Marina, tell her? What are you trying to tell me?

Speaker 5 (06:22):
Nothing? Down it? Here's your drink? Thanks well, salute, salute?

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Hey, what'd you get this stuff?

Speaker 5 (06:36):
Here's something wrong that's.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Got a peculiar taste.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
It's your imagination.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
You know you haven't even tasted yours.

Speaker 5 (06:45):
Oh no, it is fine.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
I still say it's got an off taste.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
Here you trying, You're trying to be ridiculous. They were
both parts of the same bottle.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
What are you getting so steamed up about?

Speaker 2 (07:00):
All? I said?

Speaker 8 (07:01):
What?

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Orry?

Speaker 5 (07:03):
What? What is it?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
I can't catch my breath.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Maybe if you sit down, give me some water? Hurry.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
I feel like I'm gonna have you done to water?

Speaker 2 (07:26):
What did I do? I'm just a surprise. Then, no, no, no,
he's gonna be fine. Now, why don't you just sit
down and relaxed? To Mike wearing, his train pulls into room. Oh,
I sure, hope it's on time. We'll have to give
Kirby another treatment if it's late, all right, pal. What

(07:57):
do you think you're doing? You're right?

Speaker 4 (08:01):
I look for my friend.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
They tell me he's in this compartment.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
How did you think he was hiding in my luggage? No,
capisco In case you hadn't noticed, that's my bag you're handling.

Speaker 9 (08:12):
Oh, I want to see if this is his suitcase?

Speaker 4 (08:16):
What does the tag say? Michael wearing another?

Speaker 3 (08:21):
We've got me identified? Who are you or Roberto Stefani?
Roberto Stephani? See what were you doing with my grip?
Are you making a mistake?

Speaker 4 (08:29):
No?

Speaker 8 (08:29):
You did?

Speaker 4 (08:29):
You should have closed the straps. All right, I tell
you the truth.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
I have to make sure you really are Michael Waring?

Speaker 4 (08:38):
Why you work for American intelligence?

Speaker 2 (08:41):
You know? How did you find that out?

Speaker 4 (08:43):
Did they not tell you?

Speaker 9 (08:44):
In London a man would meet you in the room
express to give you your next assignment?

Speaker 8 (08:48):
No?

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Maybe they How you say?

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Double check?

Speaker 9 (08:53):
You want to go to the hotel as you now
and meet the Kirby Patterson?

Speaker 2 (08:56):
There? Am I right? Keep talking? You are so posed it.

Speaker 9 (09:00):
To deliver some information to him which can be used
by our friends in Romania.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
How come you know so much?

Speaker 9 (09:06):

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Too, that's pretty good.

Stefani actually had the nerve to pose as one of
our boys.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
Yeah, I even though I was supposed to meet her.
Kirby Patterson in Rome.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
You're got to hand it to the bumbs. They don't
miss a trick.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Oh lucky. I'm suspicious by nature, he used to say.
I wouldn't trust my own mother, So naturally you.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Want to see microd then, So I was wondering when
you'd get around of it. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Kirby Patterson five nine hundred and seventy two pounds, brown hair,
brown eyes, birth mark on left temple. I just certainly
fit the description I ought to I wrote about self
when are you leaving for the States just as soon
as I finished this assignment. Now there's no time like
the present. There's the dope right here in this notebook

(10:41):
that's in code. What did you expect that? The only
think you can get it to your contact Romania. I'll
have it by Thursday, maybe wednesday? Expected to No, put

Speaker 11 (11:17):
It is a great pleasure to greet my opposite number
from the great democracy across the Atlantic.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
How's that again?

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Well?

Speaker 4 (11:25):
Are you not the private detective they called the Falcon?

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Only?

Speaker 4 (11:28):
When I can think of anything worse?

Speaker 2 (11:30):
You are here on business.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
No, I've retired, Julian.

Speaker 11 (11:33):
What pity I had hoped to be allowed to cooperate.
No one knows the criminal.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
Mind like Julio Fari Nacchi.

Speaker 10 (11:42):
I trust you will forgive me for mentioning it.

Speaker 12 (11:45):
But as one in the profession, you will understand what
the senior who was just here.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
You call him Kirby? What about it?

Speaker 10 (11:54):
It is an unusual American name?

Speaker 12 (11:57):
No, not too Why in the lobby yesterday I heard
a funny lady college gentlemen, Kirby. He did not look
like your friend you sure, yes, he was a tall,
blonde man.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
It was Kirby his first last name.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
I would have no way of knowing.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Julia, this is very important. If you run across this
other Kirby again, let me know.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
I'd certainly like to meet him.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Senior Waters. What's the matter with you? But the senior
Patterson here, he is opening his eyes. It's about time
to give him some water? Here, senor drink by, kerb,
Who are you well? Generally I go under the name
of Steve Waters. Steve Waters. Yeah, though lately I've been

(12:53):
using yours. I don't understand. Oh your headache. Where's Marie
Marie Mariann an Escuille in this her room?

Speaker 8 (13:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Yeah, now that you mention it, I believe it is
or is she or one of my associates took it
for a ride. I didn't think this was any place
for a woman, especially if we wanted to have a
little man talk. You recognize this, Oh it's a notebook
I got from Mike Wearing Mike Warring. Yeah, yeah, only
it's in code. Would you happen to have the key?

(13:30):
Let's see that mustn't touch I got a mickey. Did
you hear that? Roberto? He thinks he was drugged. But
who will do such a thing. Well, I wonder if
I'm not the world's prize to jup, Senior Waters. I
put down that phone, Kirby, Operator, look for I don't
make me do something. You'll be sorry for. Operator Senior

(13:54):
Waters shang up the phone. But he is dead, Well,
then he certainly won't want to use it. Hang up, ROBERTA.
We got work to do.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
You and your children can expect to live long, thanks
largely to better medicine and surgery. But you could expect
to live even longer were it not for the danger
of automobile accidents. If driver education could be taught in
all of our high schools instead of only a third
of them, it might someday help to save the life
of your own son or daughter. Your schools don't have
these courses. Demand driver education for your children. If your

(14:37):
own automobile is not in the good repair it should
be be sure to have it fixed. Remember to drive
as though your life depends on it.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
It does.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Now back to the Adventures of the Falcon.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Well, that's life or you. One minute you got it,
the next you haven't.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
Mis Kirby Patterson learned the hard way. But I had
no idea what was going on. The first I knew
of it was some eight hours later. I just finished
tangling with the Messa Brascioli and Angelo's on the vehicle,
Or when I looked up and saw a gentleman dressed
in blue standing over me.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
If his uniform wasn't a giveaway, his feet were, they
were flat. He was a cop, all right.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
His name was Emilio Balboon, and he was a captain
in the Carabineri. It seemed a capatano had heard of
me and wanted to show me the local sites. It
was a deluxe fifty cent tour.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
He started with the Morgue, and that was my finish.
You would be good enough to observe sence. You're ready,
I'm observing I would.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Be most interested in your deductions.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
Well, off hand, i'd say it was either English or American.
Probably American.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
Judging by his clothes, he must have been pretty handy
with his fists.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
And what do you base this?

Speaker 4 (15:54):
The broken knuckles on the right hand? How come his
clothes so wet? Perhaps you can get you fished him
out of the tiber exactly. Now, he wasn't in there long,
maybe four or five hours for me. Whould you care
to venture a guest as to his identity? No, I'm
afraid not. The death clerk at the hotel Naturala said
he visited you this afternoon. He's out of his mind.

(16:16):
Perhaps I can refresh your recollection. His name is Kirby Peterston.
What that's impossible?

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Or is it?

Speaker 4 (16:25):
If he's Kirby Patterson, who's the other one?

Speaker 2 (16:27):
What the other one?

Speaker 4 (16:28):
The boy will called him me yesterday and I gave
him the Listen, Capatano, you're positive this is the right
Kirby Patterson.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
He was identified by a member of the American embassy devil.
You have no idea who killed him?

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Yes, I've got a big idea who the fellow who
called himself Kirby Patterson.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
What if you're confused, think of me. But maybe I
know the man who can clear.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Up this mess.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Who the house stick at the Hotel national I'll let
you know how I make out.

Speaker 10 (17:04):
The more qui anti senior wedding.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
I know, thanks, Julian. Right now I have more pressing problems.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
My ears are at your command.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
Well, you told me you saw a woman with a
man named Kirby in the Love of the Nationale.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
She I did. Are you sure about that?

Speaker 10 (17:17):
The memory of Julio Faranacci is not to be doubted,
or it has been said?

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Okay, okay, who is the girl?

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Let me think she might have been a guest at
the hotel.

Speaker 10 (17:29):
How do you arrive at that conclusion?

Speaker 4 (17:31):
Well, you said she wasn't Italian, so it's a good better.
She met Kirby at the Nationale. She must have been
living there because he wasn't. Beautifully reason, well, you know
who she is. It escapes me at the moment. Okay,
we'll start with the hotel register that ought to give
us a leader. Wait, wait, I believe I know the
very woman.

Speaker 10 (17:50):
Yes, sweet eight thirteen, Marie anton.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Escu, Marie and Nescie.

Speaker 10 (17:56):
She's from Romania.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
I believe thanks a lot, Julian.

Speaker 10 (17:59):
Perhaps it's like, can I say no.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
No, you've done your share From here on it is
up to me. Let's hope I do as well.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Hello, Marie, I beg your pardon.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
Why don't you Marie? And to nesk you. Yes, Garry Patterson.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Sent me around.

Speaker 5 (18:23):
Kirby sent you here in a.

Speaker 4 (18:25):
Manner of speaking, please come in. Thanks.

Speaker 5 (18:30):
I imagine Kirby's feeling very angry with me.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
As a matter of fact, he isn't feeling a thing.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
Oh, I am surprised, and he's dead. No, yes, I
do not believe you. You are lying.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Where's my percentage?

Speaker 4 (18:44):
But they promised me now we're getting to it.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
Why do they promise you nothing? Look, Angel, you're in
a jam. Stop talking.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
I know nothing. Mister Wearing.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
You know my name is Wearing? You said so, No,
I didn't hevery much have told you about his apartment
with me like Kirby Patterson showed all.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
But he wasn't the right boy.

Speaker 5 (19:01):
How do you know?

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Because I saw the genuine article down at the Morgue.

Speaker 4 (19:04):
They just dragged him out.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
Of the Tiber. He wasn't pretty.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
Marie, the fish shop, it stop it and what's the
matter getting sensitive all of a sudden? Why did you
Joe take a walk while I killed him?

Speaker 5 (19:14):
He wasn't killed here.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
No, what's that rust colored spot on a rug near
the phone? It ain't boshed, But but he told me
would only put.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
Him to sleep.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Who told you that?

Speaker 5 (19:25):
Steve Waters?

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Stocky land, brown hair, a little birthmark over his left temple?
Is how much did he pay you?

Speaker 5 (19:32):
You don't understand this. Mister Waters came here yesterday.

Speaker 7 (19:35):
He told me they had arrested my father in Bucharest
and if I.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Didn't cooperate, you'd never see him again. Oh, come on, angel,
you can dream up a better story than that.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
I swear it is the truth. You must believe me.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
That was the first time you saw this Steve Waters.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
Yes, he had just flown in from Roumania.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
Then he might be on a Italy But no, no,
he wouldn't. That material is worthless unless it's decoded nothing.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
I was just talking out loud.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
He's got to stay in Rome untill he solves it.
We're all behind the eight ball. If mister Waters is gone.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Two equals seventeen desired and twenty three would have to
be a wreck. He'd a word to be so that
you ROBERTA.

Speaker 9 (20:28):
Wait a second, I bring you something to eat, well,
put it down on the table.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
But he got there faster. Resign. That looks good. My
wife made my compliments to the little woman. Senior Steve.

Speaker 9 (20:45):
You know they are looking for you, and do tell
they ask questions everywhere.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
My wife, she's very nervous.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
We have a little one on the way.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
What's your excuse? H you're nervous too, And maybe it
should be because when the chief hears about Mike Wearing
nabbing you in the Rome Express with a party card
in your party, you would not tell him.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
It would have killed me.

Speaker 9 (21:06):
Senor, I beg of you for the sake of my
wife and my children.

Speaker 2 (21:09):
Yeah, we've got to consider them.

Speaker 10 (21:12):
Yes, well, my youngest is only two years old.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Yeah, and you've got another Bamborino on the way. Ce
and that does is a problem. I got rebetta. Why
don't you quit the party? You think the chief would
let me? Well, of course, what did you know? The
party is like a social club. You can resign whenever
you please, chure, just let me talk to the chief.
I can guarantee your troubles a rover.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
Ye, that's right, Junior, at your service. I wanted to
find out, Julian, your.

Speaker 10 (21:58):
Friend Stephen Waters came to by way of Berlin. Berlin,
there is no airplane service direct to Bucharest. He had
a return ticket.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
What's the next flight out tomorrow morning at eleven? And
there's a good chance that Waters might still be in Rome.

Speaker 11 (22:12):
Yes he is, according to my information, he's living with
a despicable type name Roberto stefan Rot.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
That's the comrade. I ran into an a room express.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
What's the address courservitorio number twenty three?

Speaker 4 (22:27):
I got it, thanks a lot, Julian. The greatest house
deck decided forty second Street. Anytime you want a job
at the walled off let me know.

Speaker 10 (22:45):
Apparently there is no one here, Julian. Could it be
my informant misled me? Let's find out, Senior.

Speaker 4 (22:54):
Wedding? What do you call that? An English call?

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Skeleton keys?

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Anyone coming up?

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Landing?

Speaker 4 (23:02):
I do not like this CIEs against the law. I
was murdered.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
You think they take a note not to use oap
and water when they join the Communist party?

Speaker 10 (23:13):
Those things they consider unimportant.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
What's behind that curtain?

Speaker 10 (23:16):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (23:17):
That is where they sleep? Senor? Eh, that that is
Stephen Waters. That was Stephen Waters.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
He's dead.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
Well, I didn't think that extra hole in his head
was for ventilation.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
We should not be all right.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Take it easy, Julie. I want to look around. He
had some papers that belonged to me. Help me turn
them over.

Speaker 10 (23:39):
If the senior will excuse me.

Speaker 4 (23:41):
No, what do you know? Here's a little item that
did the trick. It is a German luca, that's what
it is, gonna handkerchief.

Speaker 10 (23:48):
I do not think the canabiner.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
He will approve of this. No, I do not think
they will. You're read with meet again.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
I know that sounds and his social but you're the
last man I wanted to say.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
My entrance was a trifle, premature, a trifle.

Speaker 4 (24:04):
What if busy I could have timed it to give
you an opportunity to wipe your fingerprints.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Of the weapon.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Now, wait a minute. You don't think i'd do that?

Speaker 8 (24:12):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (24:12):
I know appearances can be deceiving. Would you like to
convince me here? Oh wait till we get to my office.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Every day last year on the highways, an average of
one hundred and three Americans like yourself or those in
your family were killed in automobile accidents, but a lot
of highway deaths don't seem to bother as much unless
someone in our own family is killed. You can do
your part in helping to fight disaster on the highways
by being a safer driver and by working in your

(24:54):
community and state for a strict law enforcement that means
safer traveling for all of us at all times. Just
remember the drivers, though your.

Speaker 4 (25:01):
Life depends on it.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
It does.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Now back to the Adventures of the Falcon.

Speaker 4 (25:18):
If you know anything worse in.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
Being discovered standing over a cold corps with a hot
gun in your hand, I'd like to hear it. Just
drop me a line and carry the Italian police in Rome.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
They don't know where to reach me. They don't have
farther travel.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Let me congratulate you. You're wedding.

Speaker 4 (25:31):
You relate to very interesting story, so help me. It's
the truth, that's Julio here, see Capitano, I take hanout.
He does not lie.

Speaker 10 (25:38):
I was with him every minute of the time from
the moment.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
I please barbe quack.

Speaker 4 (25:45):
See hee, gabiscus, you're wearing my apologies. Huh you too, Julia,
I do not understand that makes two of us. You
will be pleased to learn we have self decayed.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
You have you are interested vitally.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
The murder of your colleague Kirby Patterson is an o mystery.
He was killed by the communist agent Steve Waters. Agreed, agreed?

Speaker 2 (26:17):
But who killed Waters? You care to venture again?

Speaker 4 (26:20):
Roberto Stefani rau.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
It was his apartment.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
But Roberto had no reason. The death of Waters was
motivated by the venge. I don't say it. You are
forgetting the woman in the case, Maria and Donescu, mariar Nescio.

Speaker 2 (26:32):
She was in love with Kirby, and you think she
kills Steve Waters.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
Yet never then, how do you count for the fact
that the murder gun belongs to her, and her finger
prints were found on the bed near the body. There
must be some mistake, I hope not for your sakes
in yours. If there is, we shall have to return
to you. But let us see what the lady has
to say for herself.

Speaker 5 (27:03):
I tell you you are wrong, capitan. I did not
kill Steve Waters. I was in my hotel all evening
and the gun.

Speaker 2 (27:09):
You say was stolen from your room.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
Yes, asked Julio. I reported it to him this morning.

Speaker 4 (27:13):
She tells, the truth, Capitano. Did her door show signs
the first entry?

Speaker 2 (27:18):
No?

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Then she was merely preparing an alibama.

Speaker 5 (27:20):
No, it is not true.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
How do you explain your fingerprints being found near Steve
Water's buddy?

Speaker 5 (27:25):
I cannot.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Maybe I can. It would be most interesting she was there.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
No, Marie, you got to stop lying your panic and
you're not thinking clearly. We can buy that stolen gun routine,
but not the fingerprints.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
You had to be in that room.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
I tell you, don't bother. That's it's the truth. You
went to Roberto's flat, didn't you?

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (27:46):
But when I got the Waters was dead. But I
did not kill him.

Speaker 8 (27:50):
I swear it.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
How did you learn where he was through.

Speaker 5 (27:52):
A telephone call?

Speaker 2 (27:54):
He would not give you most of you?

Speaker 8 (27:56):
All right?

Speaker 4 (27:57):
Give her a chance.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Capt You don't believe it? Or why not?

Speaker 4 (28:00):
What's so hard to believe about an anonymous phone call?
You got one me? Or you just didn't blunder into
Roberto's place. Someone must have tipped you off through Well
there you are. But if she did not give Water,
who did? Aren't you forgetting someone?

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Robertos Stefani.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
Oh he's a possibility, Julio. Let's see if he meets
the asset tests. Now his whole case is tied up
with politics. Steve Waters was brought to Rome to do
a job, but in accomplishing it he killed Kirby. That
made him a liability to the comrade.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
They had to get rid of him. Then the order
to liquidate him must have come from a higher functionary
here is rue, that's right.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
But who could his superdior be?

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Well, that's a good question, Captano. Just ask yourself who
knew I was looking for Steve Waters? Who was in
a position to remove Kirby's body from Maurie's room? Who
alone had the opportunity to steal her gun?

Speaker 4 (28:49):
Obviously someone employed by the hotel nationality.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
Obviously you you are referring to me?

Speaker 4 (28:58):
Who else?

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Yes, she did my piece of word, Julian. I'm sure
the party appreciate your efforts. Maybe when you join Steve
Waters you can start a new communist cell. You'll find
a lot of hot prospects down there.

Speaker 8 (29:24):
A tension all Nomon, no Bernie can shallow numeral chakway
your attention, please my ninety one?

Speaker 4 (29:37):
Oh well, I guess that means me.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Before you goes your wedding and behalf of my colleagues.
Let me thank you again for your valuable assistance, my pleasure.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
I know it is an diplomatic of me to inquire,
but that notebook of yours?

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Did you ever find it? In Julio's Browning?

Speaker 4 (29:57):
You know I couldn't answer that. I don't bother looking.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
For I hadn't nderstand.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
But I'm just sorry you could not visit with us.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
Song.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
Oh, I'll be back, if only for one reason. They
say one in Rome? Who is the Romans?

Speaker 4 (30:09):
But I never got a chance to find out just
what it is the Romans do this.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
I got to learn herbaderci capitano The Case of the
King of Clubs.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
The Case of the King of Clubs.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
That's the title of next week's Adventure of the Falcon,
when Mike Welling learns that when trumps are led, the
game can be murdered. The Adventures of the Falcon are
based on the famous character created by Drexel Drake, produced
and transcribed by Bernard L. Schubert, written by Eugene Wang,
and directed by Richard Lewis. Less Damon was starred as
the Falcon, with Susan Douglas as Marie. This program came

(30:56):
from New York bred Collins speaking welcome back.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Well, I've enjoyed a lot of episodes of The Falcon.
This is the first one in a few months that
feels like those early episodes from nineteen fifty that really
helped me fall in love with the series. It takes
a long time to get to the actual mystery. A
lot of crimes happened, but there's no mystery. And then
we get a mystery that we have to solve quickly,

(31:43):
and we get thrown curveball after curveball, with us jumping
from one suspect to another, and it ends with pulling
a solution seemingly out of left field, but him being
able to solve it because he kept track of what
was important while well as a member of the audience
I got misdirected. So again, this was a lot of

(32:04):
fun for me to listen to. Love the Cold War action.
I also think in comparison to the first three episodes,
Wearing was a lot more active and really was able
to be more heroic, whereas I think in some of
the earlier ones he tended to be more of just
having things happen to him, particularly in the last one.

(32:27):
All Right, well, a brief announcement that next week we
will be on our spring vacation, which SANS will be
presenting on Core presentations. Now, unlike the unplanned bereavement that
we took a few weeks back, this week will have

(32:48):
a theme and if you're one of our YouTube listeners,
we will have special compilations on Monday, Thursday and Friday
in addition to the premiere of The Amazing World of Radio.
So you'll have a lot more programming next week, but

(33:08):
we will be tacking a week off, so just be
aware of that. And now we turn to listener comments
and feedback. Had a couple of people comment on the
Robert Vaughan connection. Robert Vaughan the name of the spymaster
in the first three episodes of this new plot art

(33:29):
for the Falcon, and also the name of the lead
actor in the Man from Uncle. I thought I mentioned
that on the podcast. The sort of interesting coincidence, but
maybe it wasn't prominently enough where we had some recording issue,
Jeffrey writes over on YouTube regarding the episode the Case

(33:50):
of the Vanishing Visa was listening to the episode and
didn't recognize the speaker as the Falcon and had to
keep trying to identify him. This guy doesn't seem to
be the part. His voice sounds like more of the
ones used for the bad guys. Well, I'm not certain
what might have been going on there, Jeffrey, but I

(34:10):
will confirm that the voice on that episode indeed was
less damon. But sometimes voices do sound different depending on
the quality of the recording. And then we go over
to Spotify, where Prince Adam comments on the case of
the Vanishing Visa. This episode is like the writers of

(34:31):
Sam Spade and the Man called Accident a collaboration. Well,
of course Sam Spad did have some Cold War episodes,
particularly during the Steve Dunn run. But I do know
what you mean because it you know, you do have
this sort of international intrigue, but you still have the

(34:53):
cadences and style of the Falcon as a radio program.
They even kept the same introduction, which is kind of
weird given that his entire mission has changed and he's
claiming to be a private eye. It seems like you'd
want to rewrite the opening to reflect what the series

(35:16):
status quo is, but maybe they couldn't afford to do
that when the sponsor of the program is traffic safety.
But all kidding aside, Yeah, it still does have that
feel of being a private eye show, different from something
like The Man called X or Dangerous Assignment, which really

(35:39):
is built into this idea of being a program featuring
international intrigue and mystery. All right, well, now it is
time to think our Patreon supporter of the day, and
I want to go ahead and thank Randy. Randy's been
one of our Patreon supporters since December twenty twenty three,

Speaker 4 (36:34):
My idea that of what having his own extensions?

Speaker 13 (36:37):
Indeed, yes, that's the telegraph company. I took liberty of
wiring owner of house unoccupied house where Swan was found
as to who had tea to sing Yeah. Owner Wire's
reply only singh has key? Where is singing?

Speaker 5 (36:55):
He's in the country?

Speaker 13 (36:56):
I think, Oh oh, it's the chan sing. You know
where a key to unoccupied house is kept?

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Or sure you know?

Speaker 10 (37:06):
Show me me fix everything.

Speaker 13 (37:09):
Show me that key thing?

Speaker 6 (37:11):
Oh like they keep a call on hee he hang
on here penty Oh oh he he knows? Stay stop,
he is gone he's a key or same me gone?

Speaker 5 (37:22):
No, stay stop?

Speaker 13 (37:24):
You mean someone has stolen it?
