(00:09):
Welcome back, Greg Bell, thenewstributing Christopher Kidd with you. Thanks for
listening. We're here every day tento noon on ninety three point three KJFM.
If you haven't heard, perhaps liveunder a Rock or We're on a
rocket somewhere. The UNFL schedule cameout yesterday and in it, for the
second time in three years, theSeahawks are hosting the Denver Broncos to begin

(00:30):
a season. Tyler Columbus is thatAltitude Sports radio in Denver. He used
to be a Seahawks He was PeteCarroll's first left tackle in twenty ten into
the twenty eleven season, I coveredhim. I was a Seahawks beat writer
back then and now he's a mediaman knowing all things Broncos and Denver sports.
He joined us on the Beacon Plumbinghotline. Sir, thanks for joining

(00:53):
us. Happy Tuesday to you,Thursday to you. Heay, happy to
be with you. I always getjump on talk to a little Seattle sports,
Denver sports, you know, totwo places that are close to my
heart. Before we even get intothe schedule thing, what was Pete Carroll
like in his first season and it'scoming right out of college and playing for
him? Was he as raw rawas he was at USC What was it

(01:15):
for you in an NFL environment withhim? Well, in order to get
picked up by Seattle, I hadto give him a twenty pack of bubble
gums. That was part of thedeal. Maybe I'd give him the bubble
gum. But yeah, yeah, man, I mean he was he was
all the raw raw. I tellyou what, it was a different experience
for me. I mean coming fromI was coming from Josh McDaniels out in

(01:38):
Denver, which was the worst experienceof my life. And you know,
it's just everybody hates everything. Yourwhole day is miserable. Football sucks.
And then you got Seattle and youknow, Pete was mister fun guy.
It was a crazy year, though, man, because everybody was living on
edge in every single moment because wewere turning over that roster. I mean

(01:59):
every two day. I'm not kiddingyou. We must have had four or
five new bodies in there every singleTuesday. I don't know what the total
turnover count was, but I betwe went there one hundred players that year.
Oh yeah, the transaction, Yeah, I meant if I remember,
yeah, you survived it, yeah, yeah, yeah, Yeah, but

(02:20):
I guess I survived that Tyler Columbusfrom Denver Altitude Sports joining us on ninety
three point three KGRFM. Okay, start of the current situation here with the
Broncos. We know the Broncos fromRussell Wilson and it not working out of
course, and the money they puttoward him. What is so far the
look of the post Russell Wilson DenverBroncos was Sean Payton And is it pretty

(02:44):
much guaranteed that Bonix is going tostart that opener in Seattle or not?
Not so fast? Oh? Iwould imagine he's gonna be starting. I
mean, you know, the realityis, who's he who's gonna get a
sit behind? We got Jared saidamZach Wilson on the team? Uh,
And I'm all I'm all four youngquarterbacks being able to sit and learn a

(03:04):
little bit. But you know, you got to have somebody to learn from,
and they just don't have that inthat quarterback room. I certainly would
prefer not learning bad habits from ZachWilson. So I do think he'll be
starting week one. You know. The other thing is the le Broncos have
the latest bye week. He couldpossibly get which is week fourteen, so
there's no like natural transition time inweek five or week six. Poe Nicks

(03:29):
in all likelihood will be the startingquarterback and quite frankly, if he doesn't
look better, then Zach Wilson andJared said him in trading camp, we
got big problems on our hands.True. I'm curious, Tyler, with
Russell Wilson leaving, is it splitmeaning some fans are like, damn,
he was actually pretty good last season. I know his first year he wasn't

(03:49):
good at all, but the secondyear he picked things up and was pretty
decent. Obviously, he just didn'tget along with his head coach and Sean
Payton. So when he left, was there a divide in the fan base?
Or is able to like thing?Goodness? He's gone? You know?
It was definitely a divisive subject therewhen it all first went down in
terms of letting him go. Butthe more time that went on, man,

(04:12):
everybody's on the Broncos sides. Well, Acruss Moore out is welcome real
quick, and I hate to sayit because I'm sure he's a good dude
underneath it all. I think he'sconfused about who he is. To be
honest, I think he's a greathuman being. You know, he comes
in, he asked for six parkingspots. He's got his trainers and everybody
on the plane. I mean, you guys, build a deal. He

(04:32):
went through it. He's got hisown strength coaches out there on the field,
and he's just wore out as welcomeman. And by the time a
few weeks went by and they startkind of both camps were going through the
pr battle trying to win it.Russ is going out there saying the team
trying to take his money away.Halfway through the season. Honestly, I

(04:53):
really do think at this point intime, probably about eighty percent of the
fans are saying good and so ofRuss. And you know, I guess
you played okay football. If you'relooking at the box score, the stab
lines look great, the touchdown interceptionratios, all those sorts of things.
But you know, if if you'rewatching the game and you're watching situational football,

(05:15):
he just he just didn't have it, man. And it's unfortunate because
the Broncos gave up the biggest haulin the history of the NFL at the
time to go get Russ. Uhand you know they're living with the consequences
of of eating the largest dead caphit in the history of the NFL.
So it's gonna take some time forthis Broncos team to get back to competitive.
And I would say you guys droppedpretty good team for for Week one.

(05:40):
Quite think. Damn. I knowyou've got to coach, your staff
change and all that going on toyour yourself and your quarterback problems are are
are there as well. But uhyeah, I mean I think to expect
the Broncos to win more than youknow, on the optimistic side, the
six six games or so this year. It's probably un re writing it down

(06:00):
now, Tyler says, Seahawks smokethe Broncos Week one. Got it.
I'll probably be out there for thegame, though, I probably will because
my son's a diehard Seahawks man.He was born when I was playing out
there, and I always break himout to Donald for one game a year.
So I guess what better game togo do than the Broncos. Seahawks?
You go, Tyler Plumas joining usthe bronc and from Denver Altitude Sports

(06:24):
on ninety three point three KGr Bronco'sat Seahawks' opening game, week one,
September eighth, Sunday afternoon here atLuomenfield in Seattle. Tyler, it is
Revision's history to ask, but theway it went with Nafano Hackett, first
time head coach for Russell Wilson hisfirst year, do you think if he
had Wilson had Sean Payton coaching himfor two seasons, he'd still be the

(06:47):
Broncos quarterback in year three? No, no, no, no, Sean
Payton and Russell Wilson do not coexist. Well, the two guys were
never gonna be able to say pageWhat I meant, Tyler, excuse me.
What I meant, Tyler was though, would the wins have followed?
I mean, if they win, they'll coexist and he wouldn't. Yeah,

(07:12):
well, that's that's absolutely true. And I think Russ did play good enough
football that he made it complicated inthe last last season to move on from
him. But I just don't thinkthose guys could have ever co existed.
I mean, Sean wants a guyto play the exact way he wants him
to play. He wants to playon schedule, throw across the middle of
the field. We all know thatthat's not what Russ is in the irony
of it all is that that Russtried to have a coup out there in

(07:34):
Seattle and get get Sean Payton outthere, so he got the coach he
wanted, but he didn't know thatthat was not the coach for him.
That is true. I was toldby both sides of the issue in Seattle
at the end that Sean Payton wasthe apple of Russell Wilson's eye for years.
Dating back there he's worked with DrewBrees, with the same Tyler Palamas

(07:54):
joining us from Denver on ninety threepoint three kJ R f M. You
mentioned six wins, maybe a ceilingand optimistic ceiling for Denver. How are
they defensively? They've changed there too, Stan and others. I would think
with a rookie quarterback, you needto keep the games low scoring. Your
defense needs to keep a minute. How do they look on that side of
the ball. Well, I thinkdefensively it's it's certainly their strong side of

(08:20):
the ball. Are they going tobe excellying? Are they going to be
a top five, top ten defense? I'd be shocked if that happens.
I mean, you know, theylet Justin Simmons go who is a cap
casualty hit probably because of us.Quite frankly, you just couldn't afford There's
a handful guys you just can't affordtheir salaries anymore. So you lose one
of the best safeties in the NFL, though he still hasn't figned it anywhere,

(08:41):
which is fascinating to me. Andyour pass rushing group is rock solid,
but you wouldn't know any of theirnames. I mean, none of
them are going to be household dames. They're they're young, solid pass rushers.
There's no premier pass rusher in thegroup. Pasture Tan's obviously one of,
if not best corners in the NFL. I would expect the defense to

(09:03):
be, you know, top fifteen. Maybe if things go perfect, they
could be top ten somewhere in thatballpark, Zach, I'm looking at your
roster, Sein and Zach was thetime of Premumbus in Denver. I know
you got a job to do anddo your own show here in a few
minutes. Thanks for joining us,appreciate it and enjoy the trip out here
with your son to see a Seahawksgame. At least the weather will be

(09:24):
good in September. Yes, well, I appreciate it. Hey, before
I go and I do radio,so I'm sure you guys got to get
to break. But I gotta knowwhat what was the big schedule release video?
Did you guys pull out Rob Wriggleor I'll tell you that the Broncos
had Lewis Hamilton eating food. Thatwas our video watching Lewis Hamilton eat food.

(09:48):
And I'd rather watch Paint Drive andsee that release video. They just
did a It was comic book,a comic book character of every yeah of
their players. Though it had nothingto do with the opponents. It was
weird. I mean, I mean, I think everybody's out of ideas at

(10:09):
this point. We just let thisgo and just put piece of paper out
there when the Chargers are still fantasticthough, I mean, the Harrison Bucker
in the kitchen was fantasic. We'retrying to get the Chargers social media person
on the radio, but the Chargerswill let us talk to her. But
yeah, yeah, the Charges. This is a good Thanks, Yes,
sir, appreciate it, sir, take care of time of Pelemas from Denver
