Speaker 1 (00:08):
Are you ready right?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Oh yeah, Jeff.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Clever of o'clock, I got one hundred and forty one
and two those chance winning, but brought up I am
bad and ain't know I'm bad.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
I'm a bad.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
OU's a having a dollar.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Just slip this out, Shelter Well cousin to the Grill
Out from the heart. That's Hilliam, West Virginia. Here's your host,
Hollywood Chef Peggy.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Welcome back, ladies, gentlemen, to the Grill Out, Episode seventy five,
Happy three sixteen days from our family to yours. And
since he wants to keep saying what, one of my
co hosts what Josh? Yeah, he's just single wording it
right now, he's just one word. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah. I like him better that way.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
That's Jason Likings.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yes, former the longest raining Yeah champion of all time
for the Grill Out predictions. Did I lose it this
last week?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I did? Yes, thank you, Josh. Did I do it
because I felt like the show was getting stagnant, that
we needed to change up and I don't care about
the rain. Josh, I'm waiting on you to answer it. Yeah,
that's right, I did. I did it for the people

(01:46):
I did it for the rock. No, I did it
for the people. I did it to make this show enjoyable. Okay,
that's why I'm here today, to make this show enjoyable.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Hello everybody, former grill Out Predictions champion speaking, Yes, I
am your new grill Out Predictions Champion by one point.
Thank you, John Moxley.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Yeah, Jason and I tied, so you won.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah, yeah, it's true.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
I told you I would cope at the end. Does
that give me a point?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Fair?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Fair? But yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
No? And and altogether how many how many days you
get because you were calculating it before we got here
the combined days he has through four reigns to sixteen.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yes, that one was one hundred and six the longest. Again.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
He won the title at aw Full Gear and had
four defenses at WWE Survivors Series, War Games, AW World's Inn,
WW Royal Rumble, NWWE Elimination Chamber.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
So you know, it doesn't matter how many times you win,
it matters on that one time you lose. And so
I admit I lost.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
It's weird because the first one felt longer, even though
this one is longer. I don't know why.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
I don't know. Maybe I think the first one I
had more.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Defeat did you had six?

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
It also it honestly depends on the uh they the schedule. Yeah,
the schedule that you know we got because sometimes we'll
go a while without a prediction.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Yeah, like we did while Josh was champ. Yeah, I
didn't have that many.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Yeah, but then we got times where you know, we'll
have three events, two or three events back.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
To back to back. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
So it's kind of like a gauntlet that you got
to go through.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
So which was my first, well second ring, my first
longest rain.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, yeah, it was like that.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
It was like ninety days and you went through.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Yeah, you depends may need the money in the bank.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah. So speaking of AW Revolution, I'm
just gonna go ahead and get started on this. We'll
start from the bottom of the rundown and go up
start exactly a TOW International Championship Eliminator tournament they started
at this past week at Revolution, Kenny Omega defeated Kenoski

(04:23):
Takeshta to become the new AW International Champion. With that,
AW is having an International Championship Eliminator Eliminator tournament where
the winner will face Omega at AW Dynasty on April sixth,
Orange Cassidy Speedball, Mike Bailey, Ricochet and Mark Davis move
on and we'll face each other next week, well this

(04:44):
week actually on Dynamite.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
When will they face each other.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
This upcoming Wednesday? Yes. Side note, Kenny Omega was previous
previously regarded as aw's first recognized as aw's first triple
Crown champion for having held the World Championship, World Tag
Team Championship, and World Trios Championship, and now with the
International title, he is ae w's first Grand Slam champion.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
So yeah, the winner of this will face like I said,
Kenny Omega at AW Dynasty on April sixth. There is
a lot of talk though about a about Kenney Omega,
Kazuchiao Kata facing each other, I believe at all in
I think that's what that's what the rumor is because

(05:30):
they want to combine the titles. Yeah, so that's that's
why that's just take that with the pinch of salt
at the moment. So yes, but that's that's kind of
what the rumor is going around, which I we've talked
about before on the show. They should combine the Continental
and the International title like salt. It's like that Boom
the guy that does the boomer stuff going on. I

(05:52):
don't And he's like, I think they need to combine him.
Just stop putting R O H titles on the show.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, no, they need to combine them. There's too there's
too many. If everybody has a title, a title means nothing.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yes, I'm okay. With the tn T title and the
international title, it's like not even there. I know it's
but I exactly Daniel Garcia, but yeah, he was on
the pre show for this, so yeah, it kind of
shows you what they think of the TNT title at

(06:24):
the moment. But I don't know. I do think the
Continental title. I think it's useless. I don't think there's
anything of value with it. I mean, I'm kind of
glad it's on Okada's around his waist now because it's
a round a champions waist. But other than that, what
what purpose does it have? I don't think it has
any Two.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
One of them is a tournament, the other one is
it's it's part of the American Triple Crown with the
RH title and New Japan Strong title.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
You know what accent? Give it to something, give it
to another title that they got, so at least that's
I don't know that's the way out.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Look what title does? Can you have the International times, well,
then get rid of that.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
One, that one has more history.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Well, Josh, what's going to make you happy, buddy anything?

Speaker 3 (07:12):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
We're wrestling fans. We're never happy.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
I try to be happy, but get me depressed.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Listen.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
I think the current titles are okay, just maybe feature
people who held them more and stop putting R H
titles in AW.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
I mean, I definitely agree with you know, don't put
r O H titles on an AW show? Is there
still the triple team title?

Speaker 2 (07:38):
The trios title?

Speaker 3 (07:39):
It death writers, but they don't defend it.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
If you have titles and you're not going to defend them,
make it a story, give a reason.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
One of the quickest, one of the easiest stories you
could throw into that is you could say, well, they
haven't defended the title in thirty days, so we're going
to either strip you or you have to defend the
title tonight.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yeah, or like the World Championship won the best titles
in the business, looking titles in the business. It's in
a briefcase, I haven't seen any months.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
I don't think he has. I think I think it
was stolen outside of.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
A stake, yeah, J first the inaugural A to Be
World Champion. Yeah, which speaking of that, uh, they did
main event A to Be Revolution and it was a
bit of a snoozefest with that. I thought, this is

(08:38):
just and I'll you know, you'll go ahead and put
your opinions in on this, but I'll just say mine.
I think that they had a chance. I don't think
it should have closed the show because I'm leading into
the next thing we'll talk about is Mariah May and
Tony Storm tearing basically the house down with their match.
That was the best story that A to B had
going into A to B Revolution. That is a world title. Yeah,

(09:01):
I mean, it's that's what I mean. It's it's up
there with what they've done. The women's title is a
world title. That is what it's considered. It is recognized
as that. So I don't see why that could not
have closed the show. With Cope and John Moxley and
then putting Christian Cage in there, it seemed like they

(09:22):
put Christian Cage in there because they forgot that he
had a contract to where he can challenge the title,
challenge the champion at any time. Maybe they should have
had Christian pull a an edge ultimate opportunist. Maybe, you know,
whoever wins to match, whether it's Cope or John Moxley, whichever,
have Christian come out, take you know, beat a wounded

(09:48):
person as it is, become world champion. Take that to dynasty,
drop the belt to swerve. At least that's what I
would have done.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
I definitely think that, you know, with cashing in the contract,
Christian Cage should have won. That would have been a
more compelling story that at least would have brought some
excitement into it. Moxley is boring me. Yes, I'm completely
bored with it.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I'll say. At first I was like, I was okay
with the death Rider thing, Like I was like, okay,
this is a little different, you know, But then after
a while like, yeah, it's it's boring. Yeah, uh, I
don't mean like I don't, I don't, I don't, I
don't know, I don't know. But speaking of you know,
Maria May and Tony Storm Timeless Tony Tony Storm defended
her AW Women's World title against Maria May in the

(10:38):
conclusion of their prominent feud at Revolution. Their Hollywood ending
falls count Anywhere match was arguably the match of the night.
Most discourse online is that it should have been the
main event after the way the actual main event went.
It's absolutely agreeable. Nevertheless, these two proved why this story
has been the biggest story within a within aw The

(10:59):
ending of a match with the callback to the heel
the shoe to me, absolute cinema. She Pile drives her one, two, three,
and then up on the tron the end. That's to
me how the show should have ended right then and there. Yeah,
and if this tickles your fancy, Dave Meltzer also gave
it five stars, which is the first women's match he

(11:20):
gave five stars to outside of Japan.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yeah, so just think what this could have had in the.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Tokyo fifteen Stars fifteen Yeah, there.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
Were actually three five star matches on this card.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
That's true, Uh, didn't it Kenney Omega, Knotski Takeshta and
Ousprey and Fletch Fletcher. Yeah, which those which those three
seemed like, yeah, they were they they were pretty much bangers.
I mean, for lack of a better term, Well, where.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Do you think they go with Tony Storm.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Now it looks like they're building well, yeah, they're building
match between her and Meghan Bain.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Okay, yeah, I mean Meghan Bain came out this past Wednesday,
seets actor. Yeah, and then but she's and it's it's
not just Tony. She's been attacked and she also attacked
Mercedes Monet and all of that. They're kind of, yeah,
they are kind of building her up to they.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
Had a match, well, Megan had a magic and stuned
the Rose and collision, and then after the match, Tony
Storring come out and attacked her.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
So see, so it seems like at the moment that
I don't see Tony dropping the belt anytime soon. I
just don't. But that's that's the the direction that they
seem like they have been taking. They're going to take her. Also,
Meghan Baine at one point because she was she did

(12:37):
wrestle for AW kind of want to con on a
date by date basis with it.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
It was like I think during the pandemic era.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Yeah, yeah, which speaking of pandemic era, we'll talk more
about that in the middle segment.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
But I would say I didn't care for her that
first time she popped up. But she's really impressed me.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
More now, yeah, she's sure. She has sort of taken
the Anna j response to it and went over to
I believe it was stardom, but it was it was
somewhere in Japan. I know that whenever there you know,
the age ol age old thing. You need to learn
how to work. Go to Japan.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Chucky ducky quick quack? What?

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Also?

Speaker 1 (13:14):
What I say you're drinking your little tea.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Is it's quite tasty?

Speaker 1 (13:22):
What? Yes? What? Yes?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
What?

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Yes? What? Yes? What? What? What?

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (13:28):
What? Chucky ducky quick quick? Yeah? Okay?

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Speaking of Booker T though he really enjoyed the Stephanie
Vacker and he did. He was like all about that
that match and the n.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
X T with the much that they also had a
Booker T chant going on.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I think so because like so, Stephanie Vacker's doing this
thing where she's taken She's got her legs around Julia
and she's slamming her head into the matt and that's
the best way I can describe it. And somebody's got
their phone out and they're filming it and then they
just pan it over to uh to Booker T. Booker

(14:14):
t like he is all in the like man, I
can't blame him, but no, no the uh uh but
yes so uh. Stephanie Backer did defeat Julia to become
the NXT Women's Champion. She is also the NXT Women's
North American Champion. Also on SmackDown this past Friday, the

(14:36):
Street Prophets defeated Hashtag Di i Wy to become the
new w W Tag Team champions. Also side note, it
looks like WW is about to debut Ray Phoenix and
have a returning Alistair Black a ka Malachai Black. Yeah,
he doesn't have a clause. Malachai Black, he was. Yeah,

(14:57):
his his contract expires a Russov whichever it may be
Russ Day again, yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:04):
And the neighborhood and a four up. You know April
fourth is Rusive Day.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
So it is April fifth.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
And the sixth exactly.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Yeah, every day's Ruse of day. The man, they missed
an opportunity with that. But uh but yeah, so Alistair
Black contract inspired, doesn't you know, he doesn't have a
cause so he can pop up. And same for Ray Foennix.
They released him, so it's been it's only a matter
of time before it happens. Yeah, but yeah, so Stephanie Vacher,

(15:35):
like I said, both the women's North American champion and
the women's champion in NXT. The reason why for this
sudden change with Julia, because she did just win the
NXT Women's Championship, is because she's taken time off due
to an injury. From what I'm here, and I don't
know what the injury is, but.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
It doesn't seem that serious because she worked pretty low
in that match.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
So yeah, so it maybe just like something that she
has to take time off one. If not, it's going
to get worse. Like deal with it now and not
worry about it as much later on. And speaking of Chuckey.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Ducky quick quick, can't wait till Julia's back. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Also, the time is now, the last time is now?

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Or is it? The time is near?

Speaker 3 (16:19):
The end is near.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Wha b doo whoooo. John Cena supposed to be on
Monday night. Were all either tomorrow, March seventeenth, or tonight
to been known when you're listening to this yesterday or yesterday.
If you're listening to this on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
We're four years ago, to which to.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Which I really appreciate you going back to the catalog
of this entire show.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Yeah, to the last episode we're ever making.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Hello twenty twenty nine. Person that's listening to this that
was recorded in twenty twenty five future from the past.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Before it comes out. No, we did not do that
thing that you read about much later.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
On March seventeen, John Cena will make his first w
W appearance since turning heel. It is been advertised that
he and Cody will be under the same roof in Belgium.
Judging by Cody's promo this past Monday, it will be
a heated exchange from both of them in the ring. Salt, Yes,
salt like salt.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
If like the last episode of the year, John Cena
comes out in his salmon jacket.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Maybe he actually retires.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Wait what if it's Mark Henry salmon, Yeah, the salmon jesss.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
You know, I would really I would be I would
want to see John Cena, like what it would look
like on him, because he's a rather sizable person. What
what Mark Henry's salmon jacket will look like on John
scene or just his jacket in general? I feel like
it would.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
I don't think people realize, like how big Mark Henry.
Really he was, Yeah, because he has slimmed down a lot.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
He has he has. Yeah, back in his powerlifting days,
he was he was a scary, scary man.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Yeah, we talk about video games. I always hated how
they put him in the video game. He looked way
smaller in the video game than he should.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's true. Like he I don't yeah,
I don't think that they ever did him justice. I
think I think Mark Henry is another one of those
of those wrestlers that, like people started to appreciate after
they retired, Like they they started to have a lot
more appreciative appreciation for him. And I think he has a.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Something really scary, a little bit underrated Mark Henry with
his like Olympic powerlifting days. Yeah, so picture Mark Henry
when he first came into wrestling. He could dunk a basketball. What. Yeah,
he was in a dunk contest, a celebrity dunk contest.
It's on YouTube. You can look this up. He gets rim.

(18:57):
He's like a four hundred pound mane He's a four
hundred pound man powerlifter who could get rim on a
basketball goal.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Oh wow. Now, I'll say this one of the craziest
stories I ever did hear about Mark Henry was he
was doing a promo and this is like when he
first joined he first got with WWF at the time,
and they were they tried to pull a prank on
him because Vince was known for ribbon people, and they
were doing this promo where Mark Henry bends this skillet,

(19:33):
and the skillet, the original skillet was gimmicked. Okay, it
was supposed to be a lot easier to ben. They
switched it out with one that wasn't just to see
what he would do, and he bent it like it
was nothing. And then Vince looks at Mark Henry and
this is coming from Mark Henry's mouth. Vince, look, Savam says,
remind me to never make you mad. I don't. I

(19:54):
would not want a mad Mark Henry coming at me. No, Like,
if he's gonna do that with a starn skill, could
you imagine what.

Speaker 1 (20:01):
You could do with Like was it a cast iron skill.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Or just just I think it was just a regular skillet.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
But but I mean I've seen numerous strong men like
roll up skillets. Doesn't make it less impressive. I can't
do it, oh no, But.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Or you know, like the phone book thing and they
just destroy they rip it in half or whatever. But yeah,
like that's just terrifying. But nevertheless, John Cena will be
at uh Monday Night Roll at Monday Night Roll all.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Come out with his regular music.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
I don't you know, I don't think I don't think
he should. No, No, I definitely think he should have
new music now is it the music that he had
in twenty thirteen. Now some people are been wanting him
to bring back Doctor of the Economics. I don't think he.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Should twenty thirteen twenty.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Okay, so I think it was with Chris van Vliet
he talked about in twenty thirteen that was when he
was originally supposed to turn heel something. Yeah, like I
think there was something that was wrote and recorded just
never released, So like does he bring that out? You know?
He also talked about how he He also talked about

(21:22):
how he was going to change his entire look around
and get rid of the jeworts and just wear like
an amateur wrestling singlet and not just like the kurd
angle singlet, like the kind that you would see in
like the Olympics, like the really thin in the middle
and in the back, which I think would look like
incredibly weird on him. I don't know if that would
be a good I.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
Just go back to when he first came out in
just the little shorts.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
That's true, that's true. I think honestly, if he does
come out, when he does come out, I think he
should have like a suit on. I think he should
be very corporatized. Like let's not go back to the
Doctor of theagonomics. That that's that's really old snayes and
that's kind of that's kind of cheap. Yeah, do something

(22:08):
very like Christ Jericho two thousand and eight esque, like
very just stoic, very corporatized, wears wears a suit like
no more. Yeah, like just full full that so lean
completely into the.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Corporate this fast and furious character.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
He just be like that. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Yeah, just yeah, just just be like that.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
Just be like that the first time he played him,
not the second time. Second time he was a good guy.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
So yeah, No, I haven't be honest with you. I
have not watched a Fast and Furious I haven't watched
any of them.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Number eight. Yeah, which one have they made more of
Fast and Furious or Laned before time?

Speaker 3 (22:56):
I don't know what. There are a lot of Land
Before Time?

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yes? Is there? Yes?

Speaker 3 (23:02):
I did not what. This is a wrestling show, just
and furious. There are ten main movies and then the
one side.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Movie with the rock so okay, okay.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
And they're supposed to be the tenth movie, supposed to
be a trilogy.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
So okay, Jeff, are you looking up? How many Lane
Before Time? God? How many? Hold on? Hold on? I'm
gonna say fifteen thirty two? H what's the number? Jeff?
Keep in mind, on this wrestling podcast, this wrestling radio show,

(23:37):
we are now going to find out the number of
Lane Before Time movies that have been made. This is
a cart and animated movie about dinosaurs. Now keep in mind.

Speaker 3 (23:50):
Who's a source?

Speaker 1 (23:53):
No, okay, Jeff, what is the number?

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Okay, I'm gonna give you my number real quick, and
we gotta get to on this day in wrestling history.
Fourteen fourteen, thirteen of them are direct to video. That's
why I didn't know there was that many of them.
Oh my god, the latest one is twenty sixteen.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Okay, we're doing another.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
Yep, we are we are Land before Time? Do your thing?
Speaking of history, shift gears to on this Day and
wrestling History. March sixteenth, ninety four, Yes it is happy.

(24:43):
Three sixteen days in Munich, Germany. Mick Foley, wrestling as
Cactus Jack, famously lost his ear during the match with
Big Van Vader. That's the infamous match where he did
the hangman on the top rope between the top of
the middle rope. They tightened them up a little too
much and he got stuck and came out and popped his.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
Ear off, where the refa famously put the year in
his pocket and then told Mick, I've got your ear
in my pocket.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Like he was mister potatohead or something. March sixteenth.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
That was like a tot My god, no.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
That would have been hilarious though. March sixteenth, nineteen ninety eight,
on WF Monday Night Raw, Triple H beat Owen Hart
for the WWF European Championship. Heart was already injured before
the match, and so when Triple H got him in
an ankle lock, the referee called for the bell and
awarded the win and the title the Triple H.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
How about that?

Speaker 2 (25:45):
And there you go? Last one March sixteenth, twenty nineteen,
over the Top Wrestlings Scrapper Many of five was held
in Dublin, Ireland. Pete Dunn and Mustache Mountain, Trent seven
and Tyler Bay beat the Kings of the North, Bone
Saw Damian Corvin and Duncan disorderly and a six man

(26:07):
OTT Tag Team Championship match over with Yeah Ireland. As
a result of the wind, Mustache Mountain Minus Done became
Tag Team Champions. In the main event, Jordan Devlin won
his birthday beat Walta known now as Gunter to become

(26:27):
the new Over the Top World Champion OTT World.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
There's another on their stable. We'll save it for the
next segment because it ties into that.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yes, And speaking of that, we're gonna go ahead and
take a quick break, and when we come back, we're
gonna talk about one of the more awkward times and
rest history.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
It's time for the Word to grill out. Here it's
Hollywood Depth Pace.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Welcome back, ladies, gentlem to the grill Out. I'm your host, Hollywood,
Jeff Petty. I'm joined by my illustrious co host both
of them, Josh Cole. Yeah, and the Reflection of Perfection
Jason Likins. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes yes.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
So COVID nineteen was crazy huh, pandemic was wild.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
I was trying to do a bit.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Oh sorry, yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Yeah, there we go, all right a little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
So today loosely marks five years since we were in
the pandemic era of professional wrestling, the pandemic in general,
I mean, yeah, yeah, I mean of life. Yeah yeah,
because I mean it didn't just affect wrestling, it affected everything. Yes,
I was even off the air. I was telling Jason
and Josh about my time working at another radio station

(27:54):
when this was going on, and that would say rather
unprecedented time. But if you're a long time listener of
this program, you know that we love to talk about
the history of professional wrestling. One of the craziest times
to live through, not only as a wrestling fan, but
as a person in general, was the COVID nineteen global pandemic.
The COVID nineteen pandemic did literally shut down almost everything.

(28:16):
March Madness was canceled on March twelfth, marking the first
time the tournament itself had ever been canceled. Also, we
were a couple of weeks from WrestleMania thirty six in
Tampa Bay. Once the world had shut down, most organizations
did stop operations momentarily, pro Wrestling kept going in certain aspects.
On April ninth, Florida's Division of Emergency Management added an

(28:40):
exemption to the state stay at home order for employees
of a quote professional sports and media production with a
national audience end quote if closed to the general public.
So if somebody was a professional sport organization and had
a product that went nationwide, they could do it, they

(29:01):
could film it and all that to distribute it, but
it had to be closed to the general public. AW
took full advantage of the same ruling, running shows from
Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida, while WWE We're in Orlando,
Florida at the Performance Center and then later the Thunderdome
from August twentieth to July twenty twenty one, which twenty

(29:26):
yeah August twenty twenty to July twenty twenty one, which
had three locations in Florida, the Amway Center in Orlando,
then Tropicicana Field and Saint Petersburg beginning in December, which
was coincidentally known as the Thunderdome from nineteen ninety three
to nineteen ninety six, and finally the Yngling Center in Tampa,

(29:47):
from April. NXT would move from full Sell University to
the Performance Center in October, adopting the Capitol Wrestling Center name,
which was their version of the Thunderdome. They no longer
used to see the you See name, but have made
the Performance Center their permanent home with the exception of
big special events events. March sixteenth, twenty twenty, the first

(30:09):
WWE raw of the pandemic era in the Performance Center
in WWE's second overall pandemic episode after the March thirteenth
episode of SmackDown.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Famously had Stone Cold on there in an empty arena,
kicking comfiren Sexton downlow.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
You know that was that was the only only good
thing about that because it was so weird. Like you, So,
if you watch a Stone Cold promo, just any promo,
but especially stone Cold, he very much feeds off of
the crowd. He goes back and forth with the crowd.
I mean, that's why the WA champ became a thing.
So to sit there and watch him real quick, to
sit there and watch him cut a promo with nobody

(30:48):
there was a whole other level of awkward.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Yeah. I might be wrong, but wasn't that the first
time they officially recognized three sixteen Day.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
I think yeah, I think it was because there were
promos leading up to this of them promoting three sixteen
Days like it was going to be a big thing
for them, and then the pandemic happened. Yeah, A to
B Dynamite. After that, that's when Cody comes out and
he gives the speech about basically how the show muscot
on and et cetera, et cetera, and again it was

(31:20):
the it was the weirdest time to be a professional
wrestling fan.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Yeah, it was interesting how production changed too, because WWE
kept the hardcam like they usually do. Then aw decided
to put the hardcam facing the Titan Tron and WWE
saw that and Dio debt too, which made the production
much better. Yeah, so you're not looking at empty arena.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yeah. And also the Thunderdome was was a very interesting concept.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
Yeah, it wants some innovative awards, innovation awards and innovation
I should.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
Say, Oh, I mean absolutely. My brother was actually on
there one time. I think it was like on the
first SmackDown episode that had it so like it's funny
because you go back and you watch that episode, you
can see him like as the New Day is coming out.
You could see him with a New Day T shirt
on on one of the screens. So, but for a

(32:11):
entertainment medium that requires h crowd participation, this was this
was something very very different, very it was. It was
very hard to watch sometimes. No, well, yeah that was yeah,
that was the time of Kevin Dunne and his I'm sorry,

(32:33):
horrible production ideas that real quick. I know, I know
this has nothing to do with professional wrestling, but just
because we are on a radio show and a podcast
and you know, production and everything, the zoom in and
zoom out with every slam, every bump, I hated it. Yeah,
I I got to the point to where I just
turned off WWE simply because I just got tired of

(32:54):
seeing that.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
I won't lie. I never really noticed it until like
people like Wrestle Talks started pointing out. But now when
I go back and see it, I see it much more.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Yeah, like it's it's it is. It's kind of one
of those things unless you have like a background sort
of in it, you're not going to pick up on it.
And it's also one of those things. Yeah, once somebody
points it out to you.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
I guess I'm also kind of used to to fast
paced stuff from like video games and whatnot. So maybe
that's why I didn't quite notice it as much.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Yeah, I'll be honest, like I I didn't going back
and watching like twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, I didn't notice
it as much. Did but maybe also he they started
utilizing it more yeah later on, which is just a
poor I don't know if that was Kevin Dunn's idea
or whose idea that was of just a poor.

Speaker 3 (33:39):
Production because it doesn't happen anymore.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Yeah, yeah, for good reason though, for very good reason.
That so the pandemic, Yeah, the pandemic. That was also
the first time that WrestleMania was on two nights. Originally
it was supposed to be one night. WrestleMania thirty six
was to take place from the h Raymond j Raid

(34:04):
Raymond j Stadium, Yeah yeah, Raymond James, Raymond James. Yeah, yeah,
where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
They did put it wrestle thirty seven there.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
But yes, yeah, Wresselmania thirty seven was there. That was
sort of.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
Still under a pandemic, but they were limited.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Yeah, they u The crowd was was extremely limited at
at that point, they were still in the Thunderdome. But
that was sort of the first sign that Hay but yeah, yeah,
WrestleMania wasn't but WW in general was still in the Thunderdome,
and that was also the that was sort of like
the first sign of that we are going to go

(34:42):
back to somewhat normalcy. Yeah, was that Wrestlemanium. Yeah, I'm
glad that they decided to keep it in Tampa the
following year if you don't, like, I'm just sitting here
thinking like, well, I'm just sitting here thinking like a
like a kid twenty years from now is going through
like all the WrestleManias and then gets to WrestleMania thirty
six and thirty seven. I was like, why are they

(35:03):
the same thing? And it's like they look at the day,
so like, oh, that's why they're the same thing. That
was also the same year that New Japan Wrestle Kingdom
went to two nights. Now they don't, they don't really
do that anymore because it just they were at two
nights and then eventually they went to three nights, and

(35:24):
then they just went back to one because you.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
Can kind of consider it two nights with Wrestle Kingdom
and then Wressell Dynasty.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Yeah. Yeah, but it's where it's I guess where it's
two different shows. It kind of like it's yeah, like
I guess there is two nights, but it's two different shows,
so it's like, ye, not that, but it's still Yeah,
it's weird. But the pandemic. Yeah, one thing that did
come out of it though, that was good. A lot

(35:49):
of stuff didn't, but one of the good things with
cinematic matches, Yeah, they were sort of the saving grace.
Yeah for wrestling.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
Why would have taken more advantage of it?

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Yeah, like instead of just well, take advantage of it,
how a few more, a few more okay, oh yeah,
a few more wouldn't have hurt. For some reason, I
started thinking it, like, well, yeah, they probably should have
used it a lot more, but then like then you
run the risk of watering it down, but don't do
it that much. Yeah, they should have. I agree with that. Yeah,

(36:20):
they should have.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
From like WrestleMania until they went to the Thinderdom, they
had like I think one cinematic match every pay per
view for WW I mean, and then when they went
to the thunder Doom, they just stopped doing because they
were able to do it live. Other than the Inferno
Matchress had.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
A little bit of it there, but yeah, there was
some production type stuff putting into that, because you know,
you can't really that somebody on fire.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
But look, I think I almost would have enjoyed a
like wrestler point of view.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
Ah, never even thought about it because they have the
Every once in a while you'll see them have like
the referee cam. Yeah, so yeah, no, I I kind
of understand that, Like why I thought.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
They were supposed to do that with the Randy Orton
Edge match, but I guess they didn't end up doing that.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
I the greatest Yeah, oh that was that was hard
to watch now, I like, did you see what Edge
said about that later or cope whatever you want to.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Call what what it is?

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Basically like they were putting in a corner with that.
So he's like, well, instead of trying to make the
greatest wrestling match ever, we're gonna make this a love
story to wrestling.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
Yeah, okay, I did see that they.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
Did a bunch of different callbacks of different things in
that match.

Speaker 2 (37:29):
Yeah, I I think the building of the greatest wrestling
match ever was very over the top and really and
truly it was setting setting setting them up for failure,
like you're setting this giant standard up that you know,
we want you to go out and you're gonna have
the greatest match of all time compared to all these
like it just no.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
I will say it was a very good match.

Speaker 1 (37:51):
It was.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
It was, but the greatest match of all time.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
I just felt they shouldn't have a tackle.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Yeah no, no, that should that should not have should
not have been the hag on on that. But the
Firefly Funhouse match probably one of the best cinematic matches. Yeah,
probably one of the best cinematic matches that they that
went on during this era. There's the Boneyard match, yoh,

(38:17):
which is crazy because that's Takers considered what his last match.
His last match was a cinematic.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Match against a j Styles.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
They made him look like a million bucks. I mean
they they truly did. But but we found out very
quickly in which you know, people in the industry knew this,
but like fans figured out very quickly that again, it's
hard to have a wrestling match when you don't have
nobody there, Yeah, especially when you start hearing them calling

(38:47):
out spots. Yeah, and it's like, I don't think I'm
supposed to hear that.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Or if you weren't in America and you saw during
the commercial break and they just stood there that.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Yeah, they later fixed that, but yeah, like I mean,
what are you supposed to do? Yeah, yeah, nobody's there,
you're in commercial.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
But I complained about that. It's like, I mean, it's TV.
What was she supposed to do?

Speaker 2 (39:10):
Yeah, Like, I don't know, but I'll say this, people
complain sometimes for the second complaining. Yeah, I mean, there's
just that. But there was And another interesting thing, and
this is on the aw side of things. I remember
MJF talking because where they did all of that stuff,
all their stuff at Daily's place. It was also around
the time later that year was when Sting debuted for AW.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
I'll have a comment on that regarding cinematic matches.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Okay, we'll get to that here in a second. But
MJF made the comment that where they were in Jacksonville
for so long, they had their like own many territory there. Yeah,
because like they just had the same people coming back
every week to watch the show when they were able
to let fans in. So I can see the point

(39:57):
that he's making and Jacksonville has sort of turned into
the I mean it basically is the home for AW.

Speaker 3 (40:03):
Oh it is, I mean that's officially their headquarters. Yeah,
the complex there exactly.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
But what were you going to say about.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
Like cinematic matches. I think they're His cinematic match with
Darby Allen and Team TAZ might be the best cinematic
match that's been done during the pandemic era.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
True, true, up up there with the Firefly fim House match.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
But well, the thing about that when it was like
they actually basically had a match, like there wasn't none
of this weird whatever stuff going on.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Yeah, and also that was because of Sting's injuries and
his age at that point, that was probably the best
way to bring him into the fold with AW and
such and kind of kick the cane down the road. Hey,
we'll deal with, you know, the matches later on when

(40:52):
we have fans and have to do them in person.
But hey, let's take advantage of this cinematic stuff right now.
And I think maybe correct me if I'm wrong. A
couple of years before this, before the pandemic happened, was
when the ultimate Deletion happened yep.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
So yeah, I mean there's been a couple of cinematic
esque matches before, but it was really at heart ease
with that whole uh whatever you call ultimate x no,
ultimate deletion matches whatever. Yeah, that they did that really
brought that up, Yeah, which was influenced to a way.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
It really, it really did, because I remember when that
match first came out, the cinematic match in Impact. At
the time, it wasn't DNA. There was a lot of
people that from what I remember, they were kind of
on the fence about it. They're like, I don't know,
it's kind of kind of hokey. It's kind of corny
and whatnot. Pandemic happens, everybody's got to stay home. Yeah,

(41:51):
Then we start seeing cinematic matches and start to realize, oh,
there is a utilization. Now, should in this day and age,
should we have more cinematic matches? Should we have at
least one or two more in the fold? Maybe not,
not not all the time, but like every once in.

Speaker 3 (42:11):
A while, have one once in a while if it
calls for it.

Speaker 2 (42:14):
Yeah, if the story calls for it.

Speaker 1 (42:18):
But yeah, yeah, I mean it's like having hell in
a cell. Yeah, you know, have it when it means something.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
Not because you're having a pay per view.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
Yeah, don't name like WWE cinematic pay per view or
cinematic premium live event. Yeah, use it very sparingly because
then less is more.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Yes, No, that's that's one.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
Have it to bring back Malachi Black.

Speaker 2 (42:46):
Yeah, that I you know, I think that would be
that would be a smart way to bring him in
because his character in general kind of leans in that
kind of stuff. Ye, that dark, spooky type of stuff.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
Speaking of him, like when he was last in WWE,
he was coming back during the pandemic area, had this
whole dark father story going. I looked really interesting, and
then he got cut right in the middle of it.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
Yeah, and that was a that was a Vince thing, Yeah,
because I think Vince was still in charge of the time, right,
you know.

Speaker 3 (43:23):
And the cool vignettes for it was like they were
like really like animated and really cool looking.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
Yeah, it's really interesting.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
I maybe would have had the Wyatt Six's first match
as a cinematic match.

Speaker 3 (43:36):
Yeah, maybe have.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
It to where Alistair Black. Now I'm assuming he's coming
back as Alistair probably, Yeah, Like that's the only way
I could think of that do you have him come
back and have a feud with the Wyatt Six to
where he wants to have control of them, because I mean,
you're not doing they're not really anything with the White

(44:00):
Six in general.

Speaker 3 (44:01):
Well, from my understanding, uh bo or Uncle Howdie, he's
been injured at the moment, but they're supposed to be
coming back sooner, Lexi Bli's supposed to have a story
with them going to WrestleMania, so h okay, Well, but.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
That doesn't mean you still couldn't do vignettes with them.

Speaker 2 (44:13):
Yeah, yeah, you know it.

Speaker 1 (44:16):
Some screen time is better than no.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
Screen time exactly. And also have him try to influence
them to come to his side versus staying where they're at.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (44:27):
I'm just spitballing right now. Now. One I'll say this
and this and another thing that popped in my head
because you mentioned releases. I know that WWE released people,
but I this was the first time I remember them
doing like mass releases all at once. Budget cuts, Yeah,
budget cuts and all of that. I remember when it

(44:49):
when they first announced it because I was watched profits. Yeah, yeah,
we're going to We're going to budget cuts, but record
breaking profits story for another day. But I remember when
it when they first, like the first big round of
cuts came because I was watching it was Cultaholic and
it was a live stream with Adam Pacheti and it

(45:12):
was just one after another and he was like trying
his best to keep up with it all. And I
can't remember. I don't know the exact number of everybody
that was released at first, but it was. I mean,
I know that it was. It was quite a bit,
but that's the first time. Like I said, I remember,
wwe actively like mass releasing people all at once.

Speaker 3 (45:36):
I will say, I mean, it sucked that they got released.
But the Good Brothers. One of the most amazing things
that came out of the pandemic era because of their
release was the Talking Trump Amanian shows that you still
need to watch.

Speaker 1 (45:47):
Still need to.

Speaker 2 (45:48):
Watch those, Yes, I would, I very much want to watch.

Speaker 3 (45:51):
Theo were the best Pandemic era shows ever. They're really
good third straight comedy stuff.

Speaker 2 (45:58):
But I think I think that's some of their best
stuff is when they just lean into the into the ridiculousness, take.

Speaker 3 (46:05):
The South Paul stuff and put that into a current. Okay,
I mean like that kind of slapstick comedy and whatnot.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
I know we've said it before on the show.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
If you've never watched Social Distancing Battle Royal.

Speaker 2 (46:25):
It's Stang. Well who was it?

Speaker 1 (46:29):
Was it Heath?

Speaker 3 (46:29):
That was during the Social Distance Battle Royal. All of
a sudden he pops out of the woods, points to
bat during it. Oh my god, that Stang. He just
goes away.

Speaker 1 (46:42):
Wait, so that's it. He just goes away.

Speaker 2 (46:44):
He just yeah, that's it.

Speaker 1 (46:46):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
He literally showed up for that one spot somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
I mean, it's not what he was doing anything else at.

Speaker 2 (46:54):
That time, that's true. He got kids, though.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
Hey can you stand in the woods and point dressed
up like sting?

Speaker 2 (47:02):
Yeah, man, I can do that.

Speaker 1 (47:06):
You won't pay me, I will give you a cheeseburger.
Yeah man, I'll do that.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Gonna Handscheck And they had their own version of a
boneyard match.

Speaker 3 (47:14):
I don't know if I can.

Speaker 2 (47:14):
Say yeah, no, no, we can't say that. No, no, uh,
talker shop.

Speaker 3 (47:20):
What is gott Steyner's in the second one?

Speaker 1 (47:22):
Oh okay, Oh I gotta watch these, Yeah, we do,
we do.

Speaker 3 (47:28):
We will say the first one's better than the second one.

Speaker 1 (47:30):
But just like lame before times, why is there fourteen
land Before Times.

Speaker 2 (47:40):
And in a twenty six episode season, why lord, I
don't know the things you learned.

Speaker 1 (47:47):
They made too many lamb before times. Yep, yep, yep,
we'll see.

Speaker 3 (47:53):
One of the good things to come out of the
pandemic era is promos with like Roman reigns, for example, Oh.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
God, yeah, because the Thunderdome, that Royal Rumble, that's where
the hill turn started. Like, do you what was it?

Speaker 1 (48:10):
Was?

Speaker 2 (48:10):
The Royal Rumble, wasn't it When he came out and
he turned SummerSlam SummerSlam?

Speaker 3 (48:15):
Well he he came back at SummerSlam. We didn't quite
know what was going on. And then on SmackDown is
when we saw him and Hayman together and that's.

Speaker 1 (48:23):
Yeah, that's not a spoiler promise.

Speaker 3 (48:27):
You'll never see what comes. What was the tagline? You
won't see it coming. That's what it was.

Speaker 2 (48:32):
I mean, it's it's true.

Speaker 3 (48:36):
And one week later he wins the universal title and
begins a long green.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
That's true, that's true up until last Yeah, it's true.

Speaker 1 (48:45):
It's dagone true.

Speaker 2 (48:47):
Dag True also had the Drew mcintar WB title ring
that was uh he But we also saw the last
main event for the wrestle for WrestleMania, for the big Show,
A big show.

Speaker 3 (49:02):
I know it was a dark match.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
I'm saying a joke. Big show, did you know?

Speaker 1 (49:09):
Did you know in that match he turned facing heel
more times than there are land before times stop. He
hit him fifteen times. Horn crazy, It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (49:22):
All right, We're gonna shift gears real quick to the
main event.

Speaker 1 (49:28):
It looks like all the talk has been done. It's
time for the main event.

Speaker 2 (49:34):
And welcome to the main event, ladies and gentlemen. Where
we go ahead and let you know what your upcoming
week of professional wrestling is going to look like internationally, nationally,
of course locally they've already lost their minds. Thursday, Thursday,
March twentieth, New Tramper Wrestling's New Japan Cup Final, New

(49:55):
Cup Final, Baby whoa Friday, March twenty first, Because c
