Speaker 1 (00:07):
Are you ready what my son? Oh yeah, Jeff Dealing,
we are doing the clean of the clock. I got
one hundred and forty one and took those chances of winning.
But b up, I am bad and they know I'm bad.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Why I'm a mad hour. I'm looking there with a dollar.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
You speak this out shout.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Welcome to the Grillouts from.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
The heart that's Hilliam, West Virginia.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Here's your host, Hollywood, Chef Petty.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
We're coming act from Charleston, West Virginia.
Speaker 6 (00:46):
The real news today is mister Iguana.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
That is true.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen to the Grill Outs, Episode
eighty five.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
I'm your host, Hollywood Jeff Betty, and I'm joined by
and you've already heard his voice, right Josh.
Speaker 6 (00:58):
Cole, Baby, Yeah, screw everything, mister Iguana.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yea hey, listen, listen. Mystery Iguana is the MVP of
the weekend. Okay, that man, apparently WWE is already trying
to figure out a way to merchandise him.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Yeah, which I mean kind of makes sense.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
They had him on a well, he was in the
crowd of money the bank and you could see people
just trying to get their picture with him.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, like it was. It was an it was an
interesting thing. How quickly the fans took to him.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Uh, and this was that WWE Worlds Collide, the ww
triple A house show, well not house show, but the yeah,
you know, the show that they did right before Money
in the Bank, which.
Speaker 6 (01:39):
I had gambled it amazingly by the way, he didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
He didn't. Yeah, which, by the way, the correct me
if I'm wrong. They were both in LA, weren't they.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Yes, okay, all right, the World's clouds key of forum
and then money banking into it.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Okay, okay, So that all right?
Speaker 2 (01:54):
That was making sense because I kind of for some
reason when I was yesterday, when I was following everything
on my phone, I was like, wait a minute, what
where do they because people were talking about with like
money in the Bank. How like a lot of fans
hadn't showed up yet.
Speaker 6 (02:07):
Yeah it's La.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah, Like so I'm like, wait a minute, and.
Speaker 5 (02:12):
Uh, World's Collide ended up five thirty money I think
it's at seven.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
So yeah, like you're fighting with traffic getting out of there,
and I'm sure like once the show started, there were
people still coming into the build.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
Yeah, into the building.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
But yes, so they had Worlds Collide yesterday, so I
would say, uh, it is not out of the realm
of possibility that that show was a lot of people's
first introduction to lucha libre, like like like legit, like
from a legit like Luit libret emotion. I'm not yeah,
(02:47):
I'm not disc and I'm not saying that like discrediting
like Ray Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero and them, but like
actual lucha. Yeah, so let's see.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
That iguana man and not just mister Iguana is little Iguana.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
And the Spanish fly to the iguana Lord. It was
a stuff iguana. It was a toy.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
But yeah, So as far as Worlds Collide yesterday, Octagon Junior,
Aero Star and Mystery Iguana defeated the Latino World Ordered
Dragon Lee and Cruiz del Toro and lench.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
A filled in for the other l W remember because
the other one got injured.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Oh okay, okay, Stephanie Vacker and Lola Wece defeated Chick
Tormenta and Dailies.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I think so I was gonna say that, I get
that correct.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Leget O'Dell Fantasmo Santos, Ascobar, Angel and Berto defeated El
he Hotel, Doctor Wagner, Junior Pegano, and Psycho Clown. Also,
Ethan Page defeated Javon Evans and Laredo Kid and Ray
Phoenix for the n x T North America Championship, and
El he Hodel Viking Go defeated Chad Gable to.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Retained his Triple A Mega Championship. I guess, I guess
Chad is really starting to learn lucha right now.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, it's funny how that's how that's working out for him.
Speaker 6 (04:12):
Still getting beat by Lucy.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
I know he's still getting beat by, but he's he's
coming around to it. He's understanding Luca.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
But yeah, so ww World's Collide was yesterday and we
already talked about it.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
We'll just uh, we'll touch briefly on.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
What my one criticism Conan just his commentary I heard.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
I So I didn't watch the actual broadcast.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Like I said, I was following it on my phone,
you know those that.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Are friends with me on Facebook.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I won't go into detail, but the past week has
been kind of a rough week, so I was already
having to deal with some personal things yesterday, so I'm
just following everything on my phone last night and and yesterday,
but I kept hearing that Conan's commentary was not atrocious.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
Yeah, I mean there are times it was a okay,
like he had Stephane v Kerk combia was kind of funny,
but other than that, it was just like, yeah, Corey
Graves really excited.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
And then well, you know, yeah, it's really good.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I did hear a lot of praise for Corey Graves
for his commentary, which he rightfully deserves. I mean, you know,
the I think the I think Corey Graves could after
seeing a little bit and just hearing the the feedback
from people, I think Corey Graves could hold his own
as a lead on a commentary table.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Yeah. I do think he is.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
He is a better color commentator, a heel color commentator
than he is a play by play guy.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
But I do think he could hold his own there.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
But yeah, speaking of World's collide, we'll just go ahead
and shift gears real quick to money in the bank.
But before we get the money in the bank, yeah,
we have to set it up real quick with how
the week has went in professional wrestling.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
So you're fired, not really not really, sort of kind
of same result, but yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Earlier this week, a few different wrestlers have they did
receive their notice that WW will not be renewing their contracts,
most notably our Truth will get to him shortly Carlito
and Sarah Logan aka Valhalla. The reason for these cuts,
according to TKO, is a mixture of budget cuts, performance age,
roster changes.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Et cetera.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
The flip aside to this tactic is that they will
not have a non compete clause.
Speaker 6 (06:31):
Release.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Yeah. We were actually talking about that a little bit
off the.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Air, and I was like, hold on, wait a minute,
let's let's talk about this on the show.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
But you know, it is sort of a I hate
that people are losing their jobs.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Yeah, but it I think this is a little better
being told, hey, we're just not going to renew your contract.
We're gonna let it expire, and then at that point
you can But I will say, on the flip side,
and it depends on how much time you have on
your contract. On the flip side, if you're getting released,
depending on if it's main roster NXT, NXT's thirty days, right,
(07:05):
main rosters ninety days, you at least have a little
bit of time to plan out your next move and
during those those thirty to ninety days you're still getting paid.
Speaker 6 (07:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Yeah, So like there, I guess there's there's pros and
cons to both of them. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Maybe I would rather be told that my contract's just
not getting renewed to where I don't have to have
a non compete clause and I can go ahead and
immediately start working right after.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
You can go just pook a random indie show or something.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
Yeah, exactly. I mean Carlito sort of did that. It's
not a random indie show, but it was a World
Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico.
Speaker 6 (07:41):
That was a weird one.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
Because they actually got that approve with WWE and then
like two days later or whatever, they like, yeah, we're
not renewing you.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
And honestly, by that token right there, that sounds like
to me like it was like this decision was somebody
at the TKO office who probably doesn't have a whole
lot of like a like a large hand in the
WWE side of things. Probably doesn't have a large hand
in the UFC side of things. Yeah, probably is just
(08:09):
I hate to say this, a pencil pusher and was
just looking at numbers and was like, Hey, we just
need to get rid of this guy not knowing that
something like that, or in Our Truth's case, and you're
lucky WWE.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I was about to say, how dare you? How dare you? Ww?
But we'll get to that. We'll get to that here
in a second.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
You like Sarah Logan, you can make an argument, Carlito,
you can.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
You can make a.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
You can make an argument, maybe not as strong as Sarah,
but you can make an argument as to why he's
not getting renewed Our Truth. That's the one that threw
me for a loop. And I think that's the one
that threw everyone for a loop.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
That like to me, I know that Our Truth has
some age on them.
Speaker 6 (08:58):
Yeah, but doesn't look it.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
He doesn't. He the man looks the same. Yeah. I
don't know why, but he looks the same.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Our Truth is one of those performers that puts, quite frankly,
the e n WWE World Wrestling Entertainment.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Our Truth is one entertainer. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Like I was talking to Ivy's brother Andrew, who is
an avid listener of this show, and mister is.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
Not Ultimate Dragon.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
He was going to ask, it's good I got the
word from Jason on that.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, Jason, he is off to an undisclosed location.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
He disappeared.
Speaker 6 (09:41):
We don't he had some further research to do.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah, well, I think it did have have something to
do with the there is developments. Well, and and also
he just got his PhD. So maybe he's at like
a graduation celebration or something.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
You know, maybe maybe.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Maybe had to go down there do some research, make
sure that all of these are wrestlers on both of
these shows are not Ultimo Dragon.
Speaker 6 (10:03):
Yeah, including Dragon.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Lye exactly, including Dragon Lee. Like it took him a
second on that one. Yeah, but he can confirm. He
just text us that Dragon ly is in fact not
Ultimo Dragon. But I was sitting there talking to him
about this and like Our Truth getting released, it doesn't
(10:27):
like the so the twenty four uh twenty four to
seven title, that title would not have been anything, no,
if Our Truth did not get his hands on it.
Speaker 6 (10:37):
Yeah, and which I don't know.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
I'm gonna look it up real quick. I want to
know how many times Art Truth actually.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
Won fifty three or fifty four?
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Was it?
Speaker 6 (10:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Okay, all right, hold on, there's.
Speaker 5 (10:46):
A weird discrepancy. But yeah, it's like fifty three or
fifty four looks there's like there's like one reign that's
not recognized for some reason.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
It's well, I mean, we threw conversations on here about
this weirdness of not recognized, recognizing this reign but not
this rain.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Well, they did some kind of old Spice TV commercial
taping thing and they don't count that. I think that's
the one they don't count. But other than that, yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
I would have counted it though, Like that's the whole
purpose of the twenty four seven title. Ye fifty four
times fifty four. Yeah, yeah, he's a fifty four time
WWE twenty four to seven I.
Speaker 6 (11:23):
Think ww officially recognized fifty three.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah, okay, he's actually a two time US champion, a
two time Hardcore Champion, two time a World Tag Team Champion,
Bragging Rights Trophy with Teams SmackDown.
Speaker 5 (11:37):
Most importantly, a two time NWA World Champion.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Yes, he is a two time NWA World's Heavyweight Champion.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
I think WWE actually acknowledged this past weekend.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
I think yeah, I think they actually did.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
Because he's not going to go so why as you
say that real quick, I'll just give his his TNA
into NWA stuff. Two time World Tag Team Champion one
time with BG James, the Road Dog and Conan, One
time TNA World Tag Team Champion with Adam Jones and
(12:12):
Gautlet of the Gold two thousand and three with BG James.
That yeah, that was in two thousand and three. That
was as they were coming out of WWF as K
Quick and whatnot and whenever to TNA and started doing
their stuff there.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
So anyway, you're mentioning our truth, Okay, our truth made
a return. He made a return last night. Yeah, last
night one WWE money in the bank and he is
not going by our truth now.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
No.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
He looked very serious when he tacked John Cena.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
Yeah, yeah, he is truth.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah, he is going by Ron Killings now man, that's
his that's his legit name.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
When he was in TNA in WA, he went by
Ron the Truth Killings, which is where our truth comes from.
But yeah, so during the tag team match last night
which John Cena took.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
The pen, yeah, crazy enough. We did not We didn't
call that.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah, he attacked John Cena in the main event last night.
I remember you sent the video in the group chat
and I was like, oh wait, a minute.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
I read the caption and I was like, the truth,
the truth. No they did. Did they really just bring
him back?
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Because like Johnson had a good promospect on about it too.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
What what what was the promo?
Speaker 5 (13:27):
And the fans were chanting, you know, we want truth,
we want truth. He's like, you want the truth. You
can't handle the truth?
Speaker 6 (13:33):
Our truth? Is that like we're the best or whatever?
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Yeah, well and that and and that was the fans
were our truth.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
Yeah, the fans.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Kind of in a way this past week took over
some of the shows.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Like they used to.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Like, you haven't really seen that too much here recently,
which I have a theory as to why fans are.
You know, there's a couple of different things why fans
are starting to act the way they are towards the WWE.
But you don't see fans taking over the shows as
often as they used to. I mean they were seeing
punk chants for years, but yeah, they were chanting we
(14:15):
want truth. Then yesterday, during the World's Collide stream on YouTube,
you go to the chat, it's a bunch of we
want truth. Yeah, we want truth.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
He's a fan favorite.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
Yeah, I mean backstage, according to different reports, it was
like the most controversial release or not release, but you know,
let go.
Speaker 6 (14:35):
Or whatever of like all of them.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
I fully believe that.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
I think like even people who are like hardline WWE haters.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Yeah, like our truth, Yeah, can respect our truth.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
I think our truth is like one of the uh
uh is.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
He is one of the one of the funniest people,
one of the funniest comedy acts I've seen in professional wrestling.
His program he just did with John Cena was fantastic.
And and that was another thing, like some people were
like speculating a lot on this did Our Truth leave?
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Like, who's whose decision was?
Speaker 1 (15:16):
This?
Speaker 4 (15:17):
Is this out of the blue?
Speaker 2 (15:18):
It has to be out of the blue, because why
would you book somebody in a main event match with
your world champion?
Speaker 4 (15:24):
And then what a week later he had this match.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
On SmackDown And then the next day or two days.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Later, Yeah, yeah he had Yeah, he had the match,
the match on SmackDown that Friday.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
Yeah, and then yes, that's a whole other.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Thing that was on previous episodes ago where we talked
about his new name, and yeah, just a couple of
days later, he comes out and he says, you know,
basically that he's been he's his contract's not getting renewed,
and according to Fightful, he they were they were trying
to reach back out to him to I guess, renegotiate
(15:58):
his contract.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
He would not answer them.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
Yeah, according to them. You I remember you sent the
sent the thing in the group chat. Yeah, according to Fightful,
they would not. He wouldn't answer the phone until Nick Cohn, yeah,
finally called him and sat there and renegotiate his contract.
I think people, you know, I just I think they
(16:22):
were very much against that, as they should have been. Yeah,
like I said, you can make an argument for Carlito.
You can make an argument for Sarah Logan.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
Carlito is even weird too though, because there was a
storyline he was on TV in a storyline. Yeah, Sarah Logan,
I think she was injured or something.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Yeah, she hasn't been on TV for a while, That's
what I mean.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Like, you can make an argument there, and even with like,
even though like it is weird with Carlito, you could
still make a I think you can make a better
argument for why Carlito's Contract's not getting renewed versus our truths.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Yeah, if you when you compare the two.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
But yeah, so as what we said, our truth came
back last night just to walk you through predictions for
Money in the Bank. Yeah, we all tied at two
points for for the Money in the Bank card itself
going in.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Yep, that was the the.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Couple matches that hadn't been determined yet on who was
going to win, who was going to be the last
couple participants. Everyone got Becky Lynch winning the women's into
Cract Natal Championship, right. Jason and myself both correctly guessed
Seth Rollins winning the men's Money in the Bank match. Yeah,
(17:35):
you said, la, which was a good pick. Not none
of us got the women's match.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
Yeah, I like had the right mindset when we were
doing our.
Speaker 6 (17:47):
Predictions on Naomi, but I went with Rock san Frits.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah, I mean, the the Naomi one with the way
they've been setting it up makes sense.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
They've they've been kind of giving her a little bit
a little bit of gas to go with on there.
Speaker 5 (18:00):
So yeahstly during that match, there are different times this
way that way.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Yeah, well you know what that's that's a sign of
a good match. Yeah, let's see. Uh Yeah, so it
was maybe Stephan Kerr was going to get it.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Yeah, exactly, Uh, Josh said Roxane Perez, Jason said Rear Ripley,
and I said Alexa Bliss.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
None of us got that right, Naomi one.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Josh correctly predicted that Cody Roads and Jay Usso would
defeat John Cena and Logan Paul.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Both Jason and I chose what we called s Paul. Yeah,
I said, yes, there was.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
A fifth match, but it was added the day of
the event during World's Client. That match saw Dominic Masteriro
retain the Intercontinental Championship against Octagon Junior from Triple A.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
The two bonus points gave Josh the win.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Correctly, Josh is our new Grill Out Predictions Heavyweight seven.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
I cannot get a defense to save my life.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
If we didn't have the bonus points, you would have retained.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Because just tied.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Well even then it was still because like, isn't the
two A couple of times I've retained have just been
on ties.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
I've never retained. That was another thing.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
I was talking to Andrew last night and I said, oh,
I lost the title, and he started busting out laughing
because he's like, oh, you can't get a you can't get.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
A retained at all on a titleistn't No, I can't.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
The two bonus points gave Josh to win, correctly predicting
that both Stephanie Vaker and El Grande Americano would win
their qualifying matches on this past week's raw. I got
Vaker right, but said seeing Punk for the men's, while
Jason got Americana right but said.
Speaker 4 (19:38):
Live Morgan for the women. Yeah, so yes, Josh is
our new and current numbers grill out Predictions heavyweight champion.
That's right, so yes.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
And I finally got the title out of my car. Yeah,
it's it's been sitting in my car for a while.
I don't know why. I'm lazy sometimes, but I will
say no. And we've never really posted a picture of
the belt.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Yeah, I've been meaning to figure out a way to
post the actual title history too.
Speaker 2 (20:10):
Well, that's fine, and you have the physical belt right there,
we had it's it's basically just a big a toy,
big gold belt with stickers on it.
Speaker 6 (20:18):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
The Saboo one does hit a little different now, Yeah,
I forgot that Saboo was on there. Yeah?
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Is it is this lucid uh Ultimate Dragon?
Speaker 4 (20:31):
I don't know, we need to ask Jason if that's
Ultimo Dragon. Yeah, yeah, I mean maybe.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
We should we should ask him.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
Yeah, I don't know who that is.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
It was just a random, random thing.
Speaker 5 (20:46):
It's got to be somebody because it's like it has
seeing punk sections just the same sticker set.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Yeah, it's it's all from the same set. But there
were like random ones in there, you know, like you
get something like that, and they always starting like some
generic wrestlers in there. I mean, I think that's what
that one is down there. Yeah, we do have Bertie
Lee on the belt. Goldberg is on the belt.
Speaker 6 (21:08):
Player used to be. He got rubbed off or whatever.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Yeah, the sticker didn't stay.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
I mean, there's a couple other ones that looks like
they're about to come off. But yeah, so yeah, Josh
is our new Girl Out Predictions Champion.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
And yeah, Josh Jason is not here because of because
he lost.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
Like I said, I think he's off doing something with
his degree or I don't know, maybe maybe something. But
that's everything for WWE Money in the Bank and WWE
World's Collide real quick.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
We are going to shift gears to.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
On this day in wrestling history, June eighth, nineteen eighty eight,
on an All Japan Pro Wrestling card in Saitama, Japan,
(22:04):
the Glamour Girls Lenglani Kai and Judy Martin, who were
at ASW Bash and Beckley five Yeah, defeated the Jumping
Bomb Angels Norio Tintino and it Zuni Yamazaki to win
the WWF Women's Tag Team Championship for a second time.
The match ended via countouts, and seeing as it was
(22:25):
held under All Japan rules, the belts could change hands
by that decision, unlike in most North American promotions, where
the rule would have to specifically be stipulated. The title
was retired in February the following year, ending the second
reign at two hundred and fifty one days and making
the Glamour Girls the only team to hold the championship twice.
(22:46):
Their first reign was also the longest reign with the title,
at nine hundred and six days.
Speaker 5 (22:53):
Yeah, the true longest tag team title reign in the company.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Yeah, I think altogether that's what all of one hundred
days between both reigns.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Yes, that's that's yeah, that's that's that's some math.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
That's some inter clarification. That lineage does not exist anymore.
It is not is not carried over into the current
women's tag title.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
No No uh.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
June eighth, nineteen ninety seven, WWF's annual King of the
Ring pay per view took place at the Providence Civic
Center and Providence, Rhode Island.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
The show played host.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
To the semi finals and final of the eleventh King
of the Ring tournament itself. In the final, Hunter Hurst
Helmsley defeated Mankind to win the coveted crown. In the
main event of the pay per view, the Undertaker defeated
Varuk to retain the WWF Championship.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
And then finally, what is it Dang I Know?
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Then Finally June eighth, twenty twenty, at a WWE SmackDown
tabing at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, AJ
Styles defeated Daniel Bryant in the final of a tournament
to crown.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
A new inter continental champion.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
The title had previously been vacated by sammy' zain, who
had opted to stay home during the height of the
COVID nineteen pandemic.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
And we're gonna take a quick break, and when we
come back, we.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Got some more stuff to talk about we gotta five
to talk about Best of the.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Super Juniors thirty two, among some other things. So stay tuned.
It's time for more of the grill Outs. Here's Hollywood,
Jeff Petty.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Welcome back, ladies, gentlemen, to the grill Outs. I'm your host, Hollywood,
Jeff Betty. I'm joined by the current reigning and defending
grill Out Predictions Champion, grill Out Predictions, heavyweight champion, whatever
you want to call.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
It, seven time, seven time, mister seven lucky seven, all day,
every day.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Yep, I am mister no retains.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
Yeah, I can't retain the title to help Nope, like
not at all.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
I'm trying. I was legitimately trying on this last one.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
Maybe you'll get it. A night of Champions.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
We'll see maybe. Is that is that our next one
coming out?
Speaker 6 (25:05):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (25:05):
Okay, then after that, I don't know if we're gonna
do it or now there's a double booking of all
In and Evolution.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Okay, we might, we may. We're definitely gonna do all In. Yeah,
we may do evolution. I don't know. We'll cross that
bridge when we get to it. Yeah, sometimes you could.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
See real quick, how how how organized we are well,
there's a lot of shows this summer well, and that's
that's kind of typical for wrestling. Yeah, like when it
starts to get colder out and and everything, that shows
really start slowing down. But then like it starts warming up,
especially with the spring. Spring kind of starts at wrestling
shows pick up, whether that's national, international, or local. We'll
(25:41):
get to the main event. I'm hearing about twenty minutes.
Speaker 6 (25:44):
Yeah, but.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Yeah, shows typically they start like they'll start picking up
around springtime and then they'll just keep getting more and
more than Yeah, we've just we've got a lot this summer,
so we'll just we'll just have to wait and see
and speak of AW all in July twelfth, Yeah, from Texas.
Speaker 5 (26:06):
It'll be an afternoon show. It's kind of funny because like, okay,
so they had their show booked WWE schedule Saturday. It's
may have been for that night, so aw to you know,
not counter program a tow put All In at three
o'clock that day, three pm our time, Eastern time, and
then WWE went and scheduled two more shows are that
week in Great American Bash same time as All In,
(26:27):
and then Evolution on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
They Okay, okay, I've.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Been trying to avoid talking about that, but we'll go
ahead and talk about it.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Yeah, I'm I'm tired of the counterpark, right.
Speaker 2 (26:37):
Yeah, Like it's like they're trying to respect, Like they're
trying to respect your time.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
Yeah. I don't know why that cannot.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Be in return, and it's not like they do this
with any other promotion.
Speaker 6 (26:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Also with like the residency at the ECW Arena, they're
going to do I think it an NXT takeover or something.
Speaker 6 (26:59):
Or the week before they started.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
Yeah, like they're going to do that.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
And then yeah, then they went ahead and they scheduled
two shows, like you know.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
There, I'll say there are things with WWE.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
I like, yeah, but there is there has been things
that do irritate me, and that is one of them
because it's and I'm saying, this is a man whose
last name is petty.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
It is petty, and it's not the kind of pettiness
I like.
Speaker 5 (27:21):
Yeah, and sort of related you know, Collision. It's on Saturdays,
and aw's been bumping Collision off of Saturdays the week
WW has shows lately, and apparently I think they're trying
to look for a different night just in total for it,
because these last week, in this coming week, they're going
to do a double show of Dynamite Collision on Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Yeah they Yeah, they did that this past week has
come up this week as well. Yeah, it was like,
I'm on the line, I'm not I got through Dynamite,
I'm I'm I'm I'm an old man. I got through
part of Collision. I got up next morning. That's the
one line and run over. Yeah, he's a madman for
having a runover on a four hour show.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
But yeah, So it has been confirmed that at AW
All in in Texas, it will be kazusko O Kada
versus kiney Omega in a winner takes all match for
both the international title and the Continental title. Yeah, which
we found out at the break with josh Okata has
basically had the continental title since he showed up. Yeah,
he was signed on what day.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Was he He made his official debut under an aw
contract March sixth, twenty twenty five?
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Four? Yeah is that right?
Speaker 5 (28:32):
Twenty four?
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Yeah, yeah, twenty four, and.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
Then he won a title like a couple of weeks
later March twentieth. He's only the second holder of the
continental title as well.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Yeah, and how many how many days has he got?
Speaker 5 (28:43):
One hundred and forty five as of today, four.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
Hundred and forty five.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Jeez, Okay, Uh interesting sometimes I forget to Okada is
the continental champion. Yeah, that's the you know, I don't
think that's a good thing that I kind of forget that.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
That's that's where you're at. But yeah, it has been confirmed.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
This will be the fifth match in the Omega Ocada Saga,
first being at Wrestle Kingdom eleven and twenty seventeen. Okada
was the winner of that one after forty six minutes
and forty five seconds. They met again later that year
in June at Dominion in Osaka. Joe Hall at to
a sixty minute time limit draw.
Speaker 5 (29:21):
After you get through this, I have an idea for
a bonus point for all.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
In Okay In twenty seventeen.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
They met one more time in the G One Climax
that year in August for an Omega victory with a
looming thirty minute time limit draw in that match, because
with the G One Climax or any type of tournament
like that, there are time limits, like so a lot
of people going into that one like okay, the first
match they did forty six minutes. The second match they
went straight to sixty minutes. How like are they going
(29:48):
to tie again? Going into this third match that was
right after shortly after Omega won the US heavyweight title,
he was sort of like a precursor to the best.
I mean, he was already the best bout machine, but
he was I really starting to pick up some steam
on that at that point.
Speaker 4 (30:04):
He did make it to the finals that.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Year, but those that year, the g one of Climax
was won by tetsu Unito. They did not meet again
until Dominion in twenty eighteen in a no time limit,
two out of three falls match where they wrestled for
over an hour to a keiney Omega victory, capturing his
only IWGP Heavyweight championship. This also ended a historic reign
(30:28):
by Okata as the longest reigning IWGP heavyweight champion at
the time at seven hundred and twenty days, with the
most defenses in that reign at twelve. This next match
should not disappoint. Other matches real Quick on the card
include timeless Tony Storm defending her aw Women's World Championship
against Mercedes Moname who.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
Just picked up another championship at an Australian.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Championship and was it in Australia? I know it was international.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Yeah, and then John Moxley defending his aw World championship again.
Speaker 4 (31:00):
It's hangman Adam Page. Yeah, listen, I I may sound
like a little bit of a fan boy right now.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
I'm excited about okay omega Ocada five.
Speaker 4 (31:10):
I don't, I don't, I'm not. I'll say this.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
I don't know if it's going to stack up with
their previous matches, but I still I think I think
these two know each other well enough and have enough
chemistry that they could be able to put something on.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Now.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
This is a winner take all match, is not a
unification match.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
Yeah, some people are getting that confused at the moment.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
It's just winner takes as So whoever wants to be
a double champion not a unified champion.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Which do you think they should unify them? I'm just
asking real quick.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
We've kind of talked about before.
Speaker 5 (31:47):
I don't know, because if you do unify them, do
you endo Coon you know the title which has only
been around for like two years now, do the international title,
which I don't think you should do.
Speaker 6 (31:56):
Because that one has more history to it.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 5 (31:58):
What do you call the Internet Unified Tall the Inner
Continental title.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
People's heads would explode on that one.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
Some people online like, no, they can't do that to copyright. No,
it's not No, WW does not own that name.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
New Japan had THEGP Intercontinental Title, which if you think
about the name intercontinental, yeah, it's like a fancy word
for saying world.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:19):
And some people are like, oh, it's called the Global Championship,
Like that's worse.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Yeah, New Japan actually, and we'll get to that.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
They have a Global Championship and it. Yeah, that just
I don't like that name. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (32:33):
Some people like the continational. That'd be kind of weird.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
But continational, I don't know that sounds that sounds really
really weird.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Yeah, if you never had I'll say this, if you've
never had a chance to sit.
Speaker 2 (32:44):
Down and watch any of the Omego Cotton matches, do
yourself a favor. Just make sure that you got you know,
an afternoon to watch them. Yeah, because the shortest one
is their third match, which is I think around twenty
eight minutes, twenty eight twenty nine minutes.
Speaker 5 (33:02):
Yeah, oh that was the bonus point. How long is
this match going to go?
Speaker 4 (33:05):
How long is this match going?
Speaker 2 (33:06):
I don't you know, I don't see it going an hour, yeah,
I just I see it going maybe thirty five minutes
at the most. I want to say, like it'll be
it'll be lower than that. I'll take the under on that,
but I don't think it'll be. We could, we could
definitely use it as a bonus, but I don't think
it's going to be an hour. Yeah, like they're this
was in twenty seventeen, twenty eighteen. This was several years
(33:28):
ago when they were doing this.
Speaker 5 (33:30):
It's crazy to think it's been that long.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
Twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh Josh, you aged us really quick
on now.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
Thank you. Covid boy.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
That doesn't that that oh it kind of it kind
of freaks me out. We talked about it, and well
we mentioned COVID in UH on This Day in Wrestling
History with uh something with something that happened during that time.
But COVID was long. Yeah, and it does not like
it's it's five years away. Yeah, but for some reason,
(34:03):
it doesn't feel that far, but then it feels that
long ago.
Speaker 4 (34:05):
I don't know, it's weird.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
It like took away two year early for me to
like two years away.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I think I think it did for
just about everybody else. And if you think about it, Josh,
you know that you and I have probably known each
other for ten years now.
Speaker 6 (34:17):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, think about it.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
Yeah yeah, I think we met what.
Speaker 6 (34:22):
I think it was a second year so yeah, twenty fifteen.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
Yeah, so oh man, which year of amer Corps I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
You're yeah, it was your second year of AmeriCorps, my
first year of AmeriCorps. And yeah, Josh and I became
friends because we liked the graps, we liked the pro
wrestling and uh yeah, but yeah, we've.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Known each other for ten years. Yeah, that means I've
known Jason for ten years. Yeah. Wow, this is crazy.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
So I looked up the Mercedes Moan anything. It was Austria,
being in Austria, not Australia. Oh, for the European Wrestling Association.
They're women's title.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Oh okay, okay, well here you go. How many else
does she have now?
Speaker 5 (35:01):
So she has the aw TBS Championship, the Revolution Pro
Wrestling Championship.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Is that it?
Speaker 6 (35:10):
I don't think that's right?
Speaker 4 (35:13):
Okay, he's checking that real quick.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
But yeah, so that's all the matches that have been
announced for aw all in as of right now. Quick
to Best of the Super Juniors twenty five. Kose Fujita
wins this year's Best of the Super Juniors thirty two
after defeating Yo in the finals, becoming the youngest to
ever do it. Also, this Sunday morning, our time, New
(35:38):
Japan Dominion will take place with some of the matches
on the card. B and Hiroki Goto defending the IWGP
World Title against Shingo Taka Game. Yeah, Yo Ti Suji
defending the IWGP Global Championship. We were just talking about
that against Gabe kid Kenoski Takashta defending his never open
Weight Championship against Bolton oleg Also, David Finley and Evil
(36:02):
will have a dog collar death match, and that's just
few a few.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Of the matches on the court.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
Okay I found out that the title it is Revolution Pro Wrestling.
It's their undisputed British Women's Championship, which is represented by
two belts for some reason. But yeah, so she's carrying
four belts, but she's holding three titles.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
It's kind of like when like when people used to.
We were talking about the Triple Crown the other day.
It's kind of like when people would wear the wood.
Speaker 4 (36:27):
Would hold the Triple Crown and have like a tag
belt on.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
The side, like Oh, Kaiji Muto kJ Muto.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
He was like that.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
He had I think the All Japan tag belts. He
had the IBGP tag belts and the Triple Crown tag belts.
I mean he had the All Japan Triple Crown. So
at one point he was carrying around literally seven belts.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
But it was like three title dragon with his like
ten or whatever.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
I have no like, I've never actually counted how many
in that photo, but is like.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
And if you're a longtime wrestling fan, you know which
photo I'm tall about. Yeah, he is.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
I think it is like it's easy in the double digits,
Like he has belts on belts.
Speaker 6 (37:06):
Yeah, back was building up a collection there for a bit.
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Yeah, he was on on the ind scene.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Yeah, he's he's he was doing his own belt collector
type deal. We were talking about ny Omega. Of course
he was at one point the belt collector. He was
at one point the aw World champion.
Speaker 6 (37:22):
Yeah, he was holding four belts, but it was three titles.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Yeah, because because.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
TNA and Impact titles were unified as they were just
one title, but it.
Speaker 6 (37:29):
Was two belts.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
Yeah, yeah, they Yeah, they had the two belts. It
is one belt now yeah, back to one belt. Yeah,
back to one belt, give it time.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
DNA is going to TNA, but but yeah no, at
one point, yeah, he was holding four belts, but three titles, the.
Speaker 5 (37:44):
World Title A and TNA's yeah, or Impacts at the time.
Speaker 4 (37:48):
Yeah, yeah, yeah they weren't. They weren't TNA yet.
Speaker 6 (37:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
They didn't go back to TNA again.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
Ww didn't show to Kenny Megan the Triple A package.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Of course, of course they didn't.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Speaking of WWEI, there was an announcement last night. Yeah
you could see how about Josh's voice and so WWE
did announce that WrestleMania forty two will return to Las
Vegas next year on April eighteenth and nineteenth, yep, at
(38:20):
Allegiance Stadium, same place they had it this year.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
So they made the announcement that it was going to
go to New Orleans, New Orleans, and now they're like, no,
we're not doing that. We're going over here and this
is where again, I don't.
Speaker 5 (38:38):
I'm surprised no one in the post show for Money
Bank asked him like, well, they asked about it, but
I'm surprised they didn't ask like about fan backlash about
going back there.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Yeah, they did ask the one question about our truth,
like did the fan backlash play into this? And Triple
H just I'll say he's gotten better about his corporate
answers said, you know, he said that he really liked
that question. Yeah, and but he asked him did he
enjoy the show and said it was part of the show.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
I don't believe that it was part of the show.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
I think they legitimately were trying to do that, and
then there was just a ton of backlash for that,
and they're like, oh, we stepped on a hornet's nest.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
Again.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
Somebody at TKO who has nothing, doesn't have anything in
the creative or the day to day operations of these organizations,
were just pushing a pencil looking at numbers and was like, Hey,
this guy's old and he's making.
Speaker 4 (39:34):
Too much money. We need to get rid of him.
Speaker 3 (39:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
But yeah, so they they did ask that one question,
and maybe that's why they didn't ask that question, because
they were just going to get another corporate answer out maybe,
you know, because that our truth question just kind of
set the tone for him. But I'm not a fan
of this whatsoever.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
I mean, grant like, as someone watching a home it
really doesn't matter. But at the same time, it'd be
nice to go pretty mean, to go elsewhere instead the
same place twice. They've only done this once before, but
that was the early days.
Speaker 4 (40:05):
Yeah, yeah, that was that was really early on.
Speaker 5 (40:06):
That was four and five at the Atlantic City Convention Hall,
which at the time was like the Trump Casino or whatever.
Speaker 4 (40:13):
Yeah, in New Jersey. Yeah. Yeah, that's the only other
time they've done this and that.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Yeah, and that was early on when it was like
the yeah four or five, so yeah, yeah, when they
in five was the tournament, wasn't it.
Speaker 6 (40:23):
It may have been.
Speaker 4 (40:25):
I feel like it was the tournament.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
I'm not sure, but yeah, that was during the time
that WWE was not the the conglomerate that it is now.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
I was really like, if they were going to make
this a big.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Deal and and pull them out of New Orleans, I
was really really hoping for an overseas show, a europe
European WrestleMania. I would have been totally fine with that,
but to do it in Las Vegas. And yeah, granted,
I'm not going to Las Vegas. Josh is not going
to Las Vegas. Jason's not going to Las Vegas.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
We're gonna sit here in West Virginia and watch it.
But it.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
Goes back to a conversation that we've kind of been
having the past couple episodes in in in like fan
and how fans are treated in a way like, I
guess if you do have the money to go there,
then yeah, but like the average fan I'm sorry, does
not have the money to go to Las Vegas unless
(41:22):
they're going to take a loan out or or or
load up a credit card or something. And what about
the fans who already did that this time, like they're
not going to do it again?
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Yeah? Yeah, except green Shirt guy. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
Green Shirt guy, if you're out there, we would really
like to interview you and figure out how you afford
all of this.
Speaker 5 (41:41):
Retarding James Elsworth, it's all because of him.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
What is it?
Speaker 6 (41:44):
Did you see the James Elsworth thing?
Speaker 4 (41:46):
No?
Speaker 5 (41:46):
Apparently I think Ellsworth accidentally hit him or something, so
he got him tickets for life.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
I don't know, something like that. Yeah, yeah, we don't.
Speaker 6 (41:56):
It's all thanks to James Ilsworth.
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Well you know what to a man with two hands
has a fighting chance.
Speaker 5 (42:03):
But oh, just to clarify, it was wrestling ford ahead
a tournament, Okay.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
All right, I got it mixed up.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Yeah, but it was at one of the one of
those two, all right. But yeah, I'm not a fan
of that at all. And I'll say this, I've noticed,
and I've been I've been meaning to bring this up
on the show.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
And we'll talk. We can talk about this for a
few minutes.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
But have have you felt, like, Josh, that's sort of
the shine the has worn off with WWE right now.
Speaker 5 (42:36):
And in a way, and I'm not.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Saying that in a disrespectful way, Yeah I have. I'll
give an example right after this, but I'm just asking you.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
Like, like, especially coming especially coming out of like the
big high of WrestleMania forty, which easily one of the
best WrestleMania's that may have been at least, it feels
like coming into this year it's really dipped, especially with
the whole issues with the rock going on and everything.
I feel it's really taking a hit on the product
overall because it's like, oh, we had this big build
(43:03):
up and then it just dropped. Yeah, it just hasn't
quite gotten back there.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
So when you got your computer right there in front
of me, Yeah, when did and you might know this
were off the top of your head, when did Triple
H officially take over the book? I know SummerSlam was
like his first big show.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
Well that's kind of a weird thing too, because it
was like, I think it was SummerSlam twenty two, was
it twenty two, because that was the first time Vince retired.
Uh huh, so Trips was took over at that time,
and then Vince got back in in January of twenty three,
and he was kind of you know, button heads and
(43:39):
almost getting his way, and then when Vince finally got
kicked out, if you will, that's when Vin Trips really
got to take full back over. And that was January
of twenty four.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
Okay, yeah, So like SummerSlam twenty two, they were in Nashville.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
That was the match between Roman and Brock.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
That was when Brock came out with the tractor and
tragic amazing visual and then twenty three they were in
Detroit for that one.
Speaker 4 (44:08):
That was Jay and Roman when that one.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
This is SummerSlam twenty four bloodline that was just last year,
and then let's say twenty five is this year in
East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Speaker 6 (44:24):
First two nights SummerSlam.
Speaker 2 (44:26):
Yes, so I bring that up because I feel like
the high that people have gotten with Triple H being
in charge, things being new, things changing for the better
and everything, I feel like that had Like I think
it was there for the Royal Rumble of this year,
but it has slowly worn off, and then once we
(44:49):
hit WrestleMania, it really dipped. And I say that because
anything that is new like that, if it runs its course,
it eventually has to get to where, Yeah, like it
runs its course and it eventually has to like, it
has to cool down. AW did the same thing. When
(45:09):
they first came on the scene. They were unstoppable. Everybody thought,
oh my god, they were going to go the whole way.
They're like, some people had it in their minds crazy
enough that they were going to take down the WWE.
Speaker 4 (45:19):
They were not going to. I can tell you that
one right now. They were not going to do that.
Nobody's gonna take down the w w W except for
the WWE itself. I don't think it will do.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
That an interesting thing to that, you know, Vince was
still in charge. WWE's product got better because of AW
with Vince still there.
Speaker 2 (45:36):
Yeah, because because because Vince is the person that thrives
off of competition.
Speaker 4 (45:40):
It's the same it was, rinse and repeat. Go back
to the late nineties.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
Yeah, mid to late nineties, everybody were you know, I
don't want to I don't want to say everybody hated
the new generation, but they weren't too crazy about it. Yeah,
and then w CW comes on the scene and they
take the fight to them and they beat them in
the in the ratings and everything when ratings actually meant something.
And they went in there and and Vince was like,
(46:04):
oh my god, like I got it.
Speaker 4 (46:05):
I have to do something POW.
Speaker 2 (46:07):
And then we get the attitude era and yeah, no,
that's the I think you're you're, you're, you're onto something there.
Speaker 4 (46:14):
AW came on the scene.
Speaker 2 (46:15):
They Vince then had to compete with them. But if
you think about AW were on the scene for what
six months.
Speaker 4 (46:23):
And then the pandemic hits.
Speaker 2 (46:24):
Yeah, and I think as far as pandemic wrestling goes,
I mean, I know, WW WE had the Thunderdome, and
there were good things that happened over there, like Remanriins
finally turning turning heel and whatnot. But I feel like
AW did a better job of handling the pandemic, Like
for some reason, I just look at their product was
better around that time. But AW eventually had to cool off.
(46:47):
Jim Ross talked about that. I remember like when a
W first came on the scene, Jim Ross was like, Hey, yeah,
it's it's fun, it's it's it's exciting, but eventually this
is going to wear off, and where are we going
to be at at that point?
Speaker 5 (46:59):
We thing that really sucked, Like it started to really
get a tie back when Sampunk came in and then
there was that whole fiasco for like two years in
a row.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
Yeah, it really took a hit on them as well.
Speaker 5 (47:10):
Yeah, and it feels like only recently they're really recovering
from that.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
I think I think they're I think double or nothing
last month and leading up to that, I think that
they they were starting to get their footing again.
Speaker 6 (47:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (47:22):
I think them showing.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
And we've mentioned on the show numerous times, I think
them showing the backstage footage in the in the Charleston
Colisee and when when we were there, Josh, I think
that right there really set them back and that was
a huge misstep.
Speaker 4 (47:38):
On their on their part, and that was like to me,
that was that was stupid to do that.
Speaker 5 (47:45):
I have a like, I wasn't two against it, but
I felt I felt like at the moment it actually
did better for Jack Perry. But then it just went
away after that, and he's just he's not even there.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
Anymore, Yeah, exactly, like he's kind of faded off into
the Yeah. But I think, yeah, I think a w
is starting to get their feeding, their their their their
feet underneath them again. I don't know if he'll get
to the point that that it was, but I feel
like that they're they've they're really starting to put off
put off a good product now. I think WWE has
a good product and has had a good product, but
(48:18):
I just think the shininess has worn off now and
people are like they can actually see Okay, so here
are the flaws.
Speaker 4 (48:24):
A little bit that are going on, and a lot
of it has to do with t KO.
Speaker 6 (48:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (48:28):
Yeah, I think that's a real big thing there. Because money, at.
Speaker 4 (48:31):
The end of the day, money and.
Speaker 5 (48:33):
Then this whole buckling down on shorter match cards for
like the B level pay per views and even into
the main paper us. I mean Money Bank was five matches. Yeah,
it's technically a Big five exactly. Rumble I think had
four or five matches granted to Rumble matches like an
hour each.
Speaker 4 (48:50):
But yeah, like that that that kind of you can
you can make that argument.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
Yeah, but yeah, I think that it has because WWE
since they did go mainstreaming, we're get regard to the
main event. And this is the last thing I'll say
about WWE has always since they went fully mainstream, like
after the Attitude Air, after the Monday Night Wars and
they were on Fox Sports and all this other stuff
(49:14):
in the early two thousands, WWE has always sort of
had since it has always sort of had that corporate
side to it. I've always said that they were the
mainstream wrestling promotion, like if you were to put it
to like if you were to equate it to music,
they are the mainstream record company. But I really think
that that is now multiplied by like ten with TKO involved,
(49:39):
and I think fans are really starting to see that
and they're really not that happy about it.
Speaker 5 (49:44):
Much more corporate than what it used to be.
Speaker 2 (49:46):
Absolutely it is. It is much more corporate than it
used to be. So don't know how much power Vent
not Vents A Triple H has, But like I said,
he's getting a little better about his corporate answers.
Speaker 4 (49:58):
So that's that's one thing. I'll give them that.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
But yeah, that's that's all that I have with that.
So we're gonna shift gears to the main event.
Speaker 4 (50:08):
It looks like all the talk has been done. It's
time for the main event. Welcome to the main Event.
