And I'm joined here with my illustrious co host, both
of them the Reflection of Perfection, doctor Jason Linkins.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Okay, so, Jeff, here's something that you've been saying for
how many episodes?
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Now what am I saying?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I don't know. Okay, So what you keep saying is
my illustrious co host co host? Yes, yes, but you
see there should be an s after that because it's plural.
There's more than one. I mean, unfairness. It's Josh so
not really, but I have a doctorate. Now I feel
(01:27):
like I have to correct you.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
Oh boy, now it's really going to your head.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
No, I'm just saying, I'm not the kind of person
who's going to constantly remind people that I have a doctorate. Okay,
I doctor Reflection of Perfection. Jason Likekins, am not the
type of person to constantly remind people about my doctorate degree.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
Also, our current reigning and defending Grill opp Predictions champion.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Josh who does not have a doctor.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
True, he sure doesn't.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
He is a master in punk anomics either.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
No, he does not.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
He does.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
Got to catch him on.
Speaker 6 (02:09):
I'm about to retain this title, though, maybe try to
retain are you okay, we'll get We'll get to that
in a second.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
All right.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
We announced earlier this week that we had a special
guest coming.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
On the show. Well, I'm usually here.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Well, you're not that special.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
He was our first interview on this show early on.
He's well known in this area for a variety of reasons.
He's known mainly for his work ring announcing for All
Star Wrestling in Boone County and regard of pro wrestling,
among others. He is the not all oh he is
not learned to read. He is not only the ring
(02:44):
announcer but also a co organizer for RpW. Stern will
Slambury on July fifth. Adam Harris is joining us here
in the studio.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
How are you doing, Hey, Thanks thanks for having me back.
Am I the first time return guest. Yes, you were
actually hey too time, very nice, very nice.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Yeah, first return guest on the show, first guest we've
had on the show. I actually looked back and that
was March of last year, was twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
And look at us now in the big studio, I know,
and you're allowing Josh and I to be here for
it as opposed to last time.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Well, you know what I had to do. What I
had to do last night.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, because so Adam, a little peak behind the curtain
here last time. Jeff didn't want us on here because
his name's on the show, so he didn't want anyone
to take any kind of glory from him from being
able to do a good interview.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Some Jeff's defense, I mean, we only had a limited
amount of time, and so I feel like that may
have been his primary concern. That and we were also
I think we were in a closet too, so I
mean all four of us in there would have been
a little tighter.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Yeah, Yeah, we were kind of in a closet.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, I liked the podcast. I don't know if I
like you guys that much.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
Yeah, you know, I also, yeah, you are a fan
of the podcast. And honestly, outside of dal.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
Couver Allen a couple of people around here at the station,
Adam has probably been one of our biggest supporters since
the beginning. And he's also he's.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Very well known around here for professional wrestling.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Well, I want to say congratulations because the show's been
going a long time and that is nothing to sneeze at.
Putting a show on regularly every week is hard work
and I know that. So congratulations, and that'll be me
putting you guys over.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, thank you. I take all the credit for that.
That's right.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
We appreciate it. We very much appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
We will get to Regatta Pro in the next segment,
but we're going to start off with Mount Rushmore.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Mount Rushmore is a segment we have not done in
quite some time. Yes, it is where we pick a
topic related to pro wrestling and give our input on
who is our Mount Rushmore for that subject. So we
have to pick four? Why do you always want me
to prove it? The subject for this episode.
Speaker 5 (04:50):
Will be ring announcers.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Wow, amongst us, I had to think about this. I'm
glad you let me know we were going to do this. Yeah,
I hope.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
They did, did you? You guys know I'm just now finding out.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
All right, cool, this should be good, This should be good.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
So we do We just take turns on who is
you know, one, and two and three until we get
the four on everybody's mount rush. That's usually how counting works. Yeah, four,
I know. Well, you know we all watch. Yeah, the
three of us went to college together, so we should
know how to count.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Granted I wouldn't get my doctorate.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Oh man, Okay, So actually, Adam, I'm gonna go ahead
and start off with you.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Who is number one or just a first on your
mount rush?
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Well, I'm gonna say, man, are all kind of on
the same level. You know, some of them are more
sentimental to me than others. But I have to start
with what I think of as being the first bring
announcer that I heard probably was probably Mike McGirk, who
was the daughter of the promoter Leroy McGirk. And just
to name drop a little bit here, the last time
(05:57):
when Ted de Biassi came for the bashing and beck
I picked him up at the airport. He rode down
to Beckley in the car with me, and he mentioned
Mike McGirk and he said that Leroy McGirk wanted a
son so badly that he named his daughter Mike. Okay, okay,
I didn't know that part. I knew that she was
named Mike McGirk, but you know, she had those flashy outfits,
(06:19):
and to me, she's like the I associate her announcing
with a lot of the stars of that early pre
New generation stuff. Like to me, her undertaker introduction is
one of the best, you know. And she always said
weighing wang wang and hailing from and that's something I've
definitely picked up on. I feel like that's something that
just ingrained itself in me as a young man. And
(06:39):
I also found out on that road trip that Mike
McGirk and Ted Debiossi were an item for.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
A little while.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Oh oh wow, how about that. I don't think that's
too far out of school. I think that's been put
out there before, but Ted mentioned it. He brought it up,
So there we go.
Speaker 6 (06:52):
We got some confirmation on Okay, Josh, I had to
look up some names just because I couldn't remember all
the names that since I've been watching wrestling, and that's
so what I'm going off of. So, like Howard Finkel
is not gonna be on here just for that reason.
But I'm gonna start with Justin Roberts, like I feel
like he puts a lot of passion into what he
does and a lot of research and just he tries
(07:13):
to add that little bit of extra character to each
person he announces.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Okay, Justin Roberts, even though some people give him flack.
I do like his introduction of John Moxley.
Speaker 5 (07:24):
Some people may not, some people may hate it. I
don't know for some reason.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Unlikely it's a little divisive. I would say, Yeah, I
read Roberts's book. I don't know if anybody you guys have,
but very interesting book, very interesting read. He's done a
lot of cool charity work. But also like unfortunately got
stretched by Crispin Wall.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
Oh yeah, that's not.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
A position any of us would ever ever want to
be in. No, absolutely not.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
And a ring announcer, I don't care how much they're
getting paid, absolutely not.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
Well, he also got choked out by Daniel Bryan at.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
The time on the television.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Yeah, on television, all right, Jason, my.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
First one is going to be you know, I grew
up listening to U. We're not listening to G. I
didn't grow up in the radio times, grew up watching
a lot of w c W. So I'm gonna have
to go with Gary Michael Capetta. How you say his
last name? He's the goat? You got it, g GMC.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yeah, World's most Dangerous ring announcer.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Yes, okay, watching Jeff Struggle the type it's it is.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
I like that you're keeping record though in case it's
so on all of our shows we all have.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
We always keep a rundown, so like we always have.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Yeah, do you have the one pulled up right now?
Josh of like, uh, last week's our picks? Do not
have it on my phone? Oh well, okay, I was
just wondering. All right, So my first ring announcer for
my Mount Rushmore this is kind of cliche. I got
to give it to the Fink. I have to give
it to Howard Finkle. He's pretty much the voice of
(08:57):
the WWF at the.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Time, especially in the attitude. Are I know he did it?
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Was doing it before, like all the way back to uh,
the first iteration of WrestleMania and such. But I just
that that that, you know, his his inflection and everything,
it just takes me back to the attitude era as
a child and that nostalgia and everything.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
And it's the fink Like I feel like if we
did not have him at least a.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
One of our ols on one, I agree, yeah that
and I'll just I'll go ahead and take my next one,
which was gonna be Howard Finkel anyway, I'll mention one
more than I feel like he's so influential. I mean,
he's the reason we think of a new you know
what I mean. And that's like it's a it's a
cliche at this point, but it was like Howard's inflection
(09:43):
and everything on that that made it so memorable.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Absolutely, It's it's kind of like with with Bruce Bruffer.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Now and still or and now you know whatever it
is that he does, Yeah, it is it.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
It reminds me of now the think is the man.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
Yeah, I will say it was pretty nice to you
his voice when they did the Randy Orton Edge match
back in twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
That's right, yeah, very nice touch before very nice ever undisputed,
I mean, come on, you can't.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Argue with period. No, no, you can't.
Speaker 6 (10:13):
All right, Josh, our mind's a little bit more recent.
Justin's kind of reason too, but I'll go with Samantha Irvin. Yeah,
so I'm just saying reasons supt for Justin. But also
one thing I really liked about her she did not
want to know the result of the match, so she
could be surprised when it happened.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
I love that.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
I love that and in any case in my experience.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Too, that's the best. Like I prefer it that way.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Unless I need to know, Like, don't keep it from
me if it's going to help, but that you know,
the show if I need to know. But otherwise I
would just rather not know. So oftentimes the fans I'm
reacting same way as them.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
You're just getting an organic reaction.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Absolutely, and I would prefer it that way. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (10:46):
I like the way she reacted to like Cody Roads winning,
that's the best.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
I get chills thinking about it. It's great and it's
ingrained in history too.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Also, like just on the show with the rundown, I
like to do that with Jason, get his organic reaction
on some.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
Of the time yeah, I never, like Jeff will send
the rundown out.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
I have never looked at one never probably. Oh, I
hate repeating ones that people have already said, but I
have to on this one. It's Howard Finkel. Yeah, the
Fink is the best. The fact that one. If you
(11:26):
watch a lot of the mean gene Okerland outtakes, you'll
see Howard Fink on there doing like Howard Coso. And
then just the people the story that people have about
Howard Finkle about how he always used the Fink ring
announce her voice. Yeah, it's Howard Finkel. However, yeah, watch
(11:48):
out for that chokes.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
All right, So my second I will be repeating on
this one as well. Josh already said her name Samantha Irvin,
even though she seems like she does not want to
be a ring announcer apparently not. Yeah, which kind of
blows my mind because she was I thought phenomenal at
the job.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
She really brought a lot of light, a lot of
life to her role.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
And like, and we've talked about this before on the
show Adam about like ring announcers that sometimes it's unsung
U it's an underappreciated job, definitely, And somebody like her
or like yourself brings a lot of gravitas to that,
so yeah, you hope.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
To you hope to add some personality to it, but
also not take away from it. And I felt like,
you know, Samantha Irvin did a good job of balancing
that for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
She I think was.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
One of the I mean, do you guys think before her,
who was the last ring announcer that you can like
remember having personality or being like someone that was an attraction.
I mean, because Samantha was.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Over, Yeah, I mean before that, I would I would
almost say Lily and Garcia.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah, I mean I think she must be the most
the next one before that, which was you know, she
Lillian was so over. They just brought her back recently
and is still doing Saturday Night's main event, So I
mean shout out to her.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Too, absolutely, And she was like, you want to talk
about Howard Finkle be in the voice for like the
Golden era, the New Generation era, and the Attitude era.
Lillia and Garcia was sort of the voice for the
ruthless Aggression era into the PG era for WWE pretty
much up until Yes Samantha Irvin came along, for sure,
(13:26):
and this isn't a This is like a slight shout out.
I thought Brandy Rhodes did do a decent job when
she was doing a little bit.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Hey, I was gonna put her in my honorable mention
because she has not got a good enough she hasn't
got enough credit for her ring announceing. Absolutely like and
if I brought her back in any way, it would
have been as ring announcer. I thought when whenever she
was on AW, I liked it more than Justin Roberts
quite frankly, you know. I mean I always thought she
was excellent at that. And maybe it's not a role
that's important enough for her, but I mean I definitely
(13:55):
had her on an honorable mention.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Absolutely, all right, So we will actually go back to you, Okay,
So who's your third?
Speaker 3 (14:01):
I'm gonna do a quick repeat because I just think
he's the greatest. But that's Gary Michael Copetta because he
was the first ring announcer I ever saw live, and
I will always bring up the first show I went
to was in February of ninety two, and it was
at the Charleston Coliseum and actually the first thing I
remember him having to announce was that Sting would not
be appearing and neither would Ellie Gante, and that they
would be offering refunds up until the intermission of the show.
(14:25):
And that always stuck with me because I remember, first
of all, as a kid, I thought.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Who would ask for a refund? You know, this is
the greatest thing of all time being here, you know.
And that also that.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
It would only go up until intermission, like if you
stuck around after that, they're like, sorry, kid.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
You're not gonna get your money back.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
But he was just like the voice of WCWWW. Saturday
Night was like the free TV that you got to
watch at six o'clock on Saturdays, and Gary Michael competit
was on there, I mean, and it's ingrained in me
the same way. My announcing is similar very much to
Mike McGirk and to Gary Michael compettit because I'll say
wrestling fans like a hundred times during a show. Yeah,
And if you go back and listen to Gary Michael,
he says almost every time he'll say our next contest,
(15:03):
wrestling fans is the one fault.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
You know.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
It's always in there. He's working it in there so
real quick.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
What is your do you like it when you say, okay,
so you announce the match is just a quick little question,
all right, and you say one fall and the fans
repeat one fall. Do you is that like, okay, I've
I got the fans a little bit with me right now, or.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
I think at this point it's it's I try to
limit that. Like usually at the start of the show,
it's like a good thing to do because everybody's involved,
they're excited about it, and I usually try to give
them at least that first one at the top of
the show. To me, it kind of wears out after that,
like it's not as cool every time. It's almost like,
you know, like a loud chop or whatever, or you know,
(15:48):
an obvious leg slab.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Why.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
It's like the more you do it, the less it
kind of brings to the table, is my opinion on.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
It waters it down a little bit.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
A little bit, yeah, a little bit. So I like
to do it, you know, for that first one. And
to me, it's also like a matter of keeping the
show rolling. But if the audio and the PA is
working good enough, and the sound person is good enough,
which is the tag team partner of the ring announcer.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Always.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
I'd like to just hit the music because that's kind
of how they do on the pros, you know. And
so I'm doing this contest to schedule for one fall
and it just for the whatever whatever over top of
the music, you know, just because so they can get
started to coming to the ring, you know, and that
helps the pace a little bit, okay, and then usually
again around the main event, they're going to work it
in anyway.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
So well, yeah, always all right, Josh, who's your number three?
Speaker 6 (16:32):
We kind of talked about her a little bit, but
I would say Lily and Garcia nice perhaps probably the
biggest female voice ring announcer ever, probably.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
The most recognizable, certainly before Samantha obviously.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Yeah, those of us of a.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
Certain age where we'll remember Mike McGirk, though she was
the pioneer.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Yeah, so I've got to touch back on your on
your story really quick, Adam. I think it's really funny
that it was you know, I'm sorry Sting will not
be here if you want to refund.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
I'm sorry Ellie.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Gante won't be here if you want to and we
were like, eh, yeah, those two are definitely on the
same same level.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Then I'm sure they have been advertised man and as
like whatever. I was ten years old at that time,
like Ellie Gante, I didn't know about work rate. No,
he was just a seven foot monster. Yeah, he was
just tall.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Who could stop him?
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Turns out almost everybody, yes, most importantly himself.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Yes, uh maybe some steps maybe. Okay, so some individuals
who may not know Ellie Gante it is eight foot
tall giant Gonzalez. Yes, yeah yeah, and uh before the
first suit, like he hadn't done the Furst suit yet. Yes, no,
at this point he was just kind of wearing like
black tights.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
Black shorts, yeah, sometimes a headband.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
And somehow, somehow they managed to make it even worse
with the first suit.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
It was like he had the worst year until.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
Yeah, oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Wasn't he in the that like Halloween cage match where
Abdullah the butcher?
Speaker 8 (18:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (18:06):
The electric electric chair?
Speaker 5 (18:08):
Yeah, what was it?
Speaker 3 (18:09):
The hell Chamber of Chamber, Chamber of Classic was that
Stuff's like comfort food to me?
Speaker 2 (18:18):
I mean, Dub's going to Dupsy Dub Chamber of Doom.
All right, Okay, Oh, I hate to do it again,
but Lily and Garcia, you know, I I'll be honest,
I don't care for the way Justin Roberts announces. I
feel like a lot of times he's trying to get
(18:40):
himself over with it. And it shouldn't be taking emphasis
away from the show. It should be adding into And
if you're not adding, then you're taking away. And I
just don't care for Justin Roberts announcing okay, especially anytime
he says John Motty. So it's like a Vince McMain impression.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
A little bit real quick. I remember which one. I
think it was Revolution twenty twenty. The three of us
were watching it. Uh, we were somewhere, I can't remember.
We're watching it. John Moxley comes out and Justin Roberts
does the Moxley and that's the first thing that came
out of your mouth.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Jason. Yeah, that's part of the reason why I said that.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
Also, not to copy you two.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
But your own idea is I got I have one
more after this.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
But I was just going to say Lilian Garcia to me,
I have to say Lily and Garcia because yes, I
remember Howard Finkel. You go back and you watch all
the old WCW not wcw WWF attitude era stuff, the
new generation, the Golden age, Howard Finkel was.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
The man totally.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
But when I was really you're talking about like Adam
around ten years old, like going and seeing all that
around ten years old, that was what was it. That
was when Stone Cold had just finished up, So it
was after two thousand and three, two thousand and five,
that was during Triple H's Reign of Terror. Looking back
at it, not the best stuff.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
It's comfort food, yeah, definitely.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yeah at that time you were like loving it though, right.
Speaker 4 (20:25):
Oh yeah, yeah, So Lily and Garcia is like that,
Like she was the voice of a lot of that, definitely,
and not all of it was bad, but there was
some bad stuff in there.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
So I have to give it the Lily and Garcia.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
I mean, she's pretty much she pretty much picked up
the torch after the faint, you know, started phasing out.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
Yeah, and she became the voice after that definitely.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
So before we give our last one, can can we
each give an honorable mention? Yeah, that's a good idea.
I already did mine.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
Yeah, I agree with you on that. With Brandy Rhodes,
I very underappreciated.
Speaker 6 (21:00):
I don't know who contribution.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
And I think I think that's one of the reasons
we're going to see some overlap, is that? I mean,
you can't even name that many ring announcers. You know,
we're the biggest wrestling fans there are, unless and somebody
if you, if you said like Boyd Pierce, I would
know you were just trying to be you know, an
old school mark or something, you know, like from World
Class or whatever, which he did have awesome suits.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Okay, yeah, so Josh you have one, Yeah, Boyd Pierce. Well,
since no one.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
Mentioned Oya ahead, that's why we're all looking at you, Josh.
Speaker 6 (21:30):
So I wasn't gonna put them on the Mount Rushmore,
but I will put Finkel on there. Like the reason
I put didn't put on Mount Rushmore because I wasn't
watching when he was announcing. I didn't watch Attitude. I
was watching W'SW at the time.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
So makes sense.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
But from what I've heard from recording stuff, yeah, he's great.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
All right.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
However, so you were you were watching w c W.
But I I notice there's no Gary Michael Capeto. Where's GMC?
I don't remember? You don't remember him.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
I remember another person who's going to be my next
pH Okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Okay, well you see my honorable mention, I'm going to
count him as a wrestling announcer because he did the
big events for WCW. Michael Buffer.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
Oh, okay, okay, okay, all.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Right, Well you knew it was a big match whenever
they spent the money for Let's get ready to Rumble, Yeah,
and would bring in Michael Buffer.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
Yeah, all right, Adam, who's your final one?
Speaker 3 (22:29):
I'm going to go out here and say, Bobby Cruz
the Ring of Honor ring announcer, even though I did
not watch a ton of Ring of Honor, and admittedly,
and I think one day in my life I will
revert and just start watching Ring of Honor from the
beginning maybe, and I'll just do that for my retirement.
But still to this day he's on Collision, I think
(22:49):
at least regularly or semi regular and on the Ring
of Honor program. He started in nineteen ninety four, so
he's already over thirty years as a ring announcer. And
I think the thing that I like the most about him,
and here's where I picked up on it was during
the pandemic when they did the Return of the Pure
Tournament and Bobby Cruz was like announcing the rules and
all that because those are different matches kind of you know,
(23:10):
you kind of have to know what's happening for that,
and I thought, I was like, wow, he just gave
this all an air of legitimacy, like it sounds legitimately.
It sounds legitimate to me when Bobby Cruz does the
ring announcing. And I'll also just say when the first
all in happened, I'm nanty nine percent sure that was
Bobby Cruz, you know, because it was basically a Ring
of honor show, a glorified Ring of honor show.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
I'm almost positive it was him.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Brandy Rose may have done some on that show. I'm
not sure if they mix it up or not, but
I just went back and looked. I know he announced
Cody versus Aldus, and so again, I just think he
adds an air of credibility, like it sounds like a
legit contest.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
When Bobby Cruise is in there, that's awesome, all right.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
So Jason had him as the Honora mentioned but Michael
Buffer like, that's the one guy I couldn't remember his
name until I looked it up. That's the one guy
I remember as a kid. It's like, yeah, this is
a big match. Is an important match, something serious about
to happen, So it's gotta be Michael Buffer.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
And they would even bring him in for certain nitrosy. Yeah,
it wasn't even like pay per views like sometimes there's
like a nitro main event, and that made Nitro seem
even Yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
All right, Jason, Well you say I have too.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
I'm not going to you know, I'm not going to
give you both, but I'm going to say no, I
think Tony Chimmel was underappreciation, you know, especially with his
rated rs. Oh good one, but okay, that's not who
I'm picking. That's not who I'm honorable mentioned to. Yes,
(24:45):
I have a doctorate, so it's okay, I'm going to
go with I'm going to go a little old school
on this and go with Larry Shipley, the ring announcer
for the AWA from nineteen eighty three to nineteen eighty nine. Okay.
(25:07):
He also wrote a book called Stranglehold about his life
and career. And I didn't read that off of his wiki.
That was all from memory. It was I.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
So is Larry Shippley your final one?
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Yes, I'm picking him over Tony chimmele well, and.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
So he probably would have announced some of the early
Hull cogan then right like before he was you know
what we think of his whole cogan, It was probably
Larry Shipley.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
My final one is actually gonna be Tony chimbl.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
There you go, all right, all right, very cool.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
I was one I wanted to say Tony Chimble before,
but you both of you were already saying Lily and Garcia.
So I was like, all right, I'll just throw that
one out there, because it because you're there, you fall
under peer pressure.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
I do sometimes Shimmel deserves credit for the era though too,
as much as Lily and I think he has some
distinct uh distinct announcers.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Absolutely, like that era of s back down was insane
and to put the Tony Chimble and really anybody on
this list has such a recognizable voice that you can
equate them to.
Speaker 5 (26:10):
Whatever era that they were announcing in.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Like you can even see like that from that era
of velocity and main event and like the pre shows
or the Saturday morning shows, like that's him all over
the place.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Oh. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Also there was a video online the man turned very
Italian very quick. He actually got he accidentally got hit
with like a shirt t shirt gun and he didn't.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
There was no accident to that. They aimed the gun
at it.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
Are you talking about this? You're you've seen the same video?
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Yes, yeah, he Where are you saying he accident? No?
Like someone was in that guy's here and said, hey,
you know, would be really funny shoot timble.
Speaker 5 (26:49):
And then he did. And Tony Chimmell. Yeah what Tony Chimmell.
I didn't think he could do.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
I gotta look this video up.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
It's an interesting one. It's only about a minute and
a half, two minutes. Oh wow, Yeah it's out there though.
All right, we're gonna shift gears real quick to On
this day in wrestling history. June twenty ninth, nineteen eighty six,
(27:20):
Nick Bockwinkle was awarded the AWA World Championship in Denver,
Colorado with a four foot win over Stan Hanson. The
reality was that Hanson had walked out on the AWA
over his loyalty to All Japan Pro Wrestling. As a
response to the perceived slight, Hanson, who was still in
possession of the title belt, laid it on his driveway,
(27:43):
ran it over with his truck, and mailed the remains
back to AWA owner Vern Ganya.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Wouldn't you know, love to know what happened to that belt,
like what they did with it, you know. Yeah, the
package for you Vern, Oh, thank you.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
It's just I can't give this to my son.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
June twenty ninth, nineteen ninety eight, the day after losing
the WWF Championship to Caine at King of the Ring
in a first Blood match, Stone Cold Steve Austin won
the title back on Rawa's War from Cleveland, Ohio. And
then finally June twenty ninth, twenty thirteen, at a TNA
Impact taping in Las Vegas, Nevada, Chris Saban defeated Austin,
(28:29):
Airis and Manic in a triple threat match.
Speaker 5 (28:32):
To win the X Division Championship.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
And we will take a quick break and when we
come back, we're gonna talk to Adam about Sternwhell Slambury.
Speaker 7 (28:41):
On July fifth, stay tuned, good.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Time for more of the drill Out. Here's Mollywood Jeff.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
Pager, Welcome back, ladies, gentlemen, to the Grill Out.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
I'm your host, tomley Wood, Jeff Betty, and I'm joined
here with I can't say I illustrious co host doctor
Jason Likens.
Speaker 5 (29:14):
The reflection of perfection.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Yes, that is your illustrious co host, and then there's
Josh hostess.
Speaker 4 (29:21):
And our reigning and depending and he will he retained,
that's right, Josh called Babey.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
We'll talk about that later on.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (29:29):
We're also joined by Adam Harris, ring announcer and co
organizer for rpw's stern Will Slamboree this Saturday, July fifth,
at three o'clock.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
You guys are gonna be at Hadad Riverfront.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Park, that's right, Yeah, big deal.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
When we saw that you were you guys are going
to do it, there was like, oh okay, we we
we don't have to go to slack Plausa.
Speaker 5 (29:53):
That's right because the past couple of years, the last.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Two years, yeah, the first two Slambre's and then we've
been doing slam Plaza. The Bishop did one before before
we did the Sternal Slammery, and then we've done two
since then. I think so this year it'll be slam
Plaza four if I'm not mistaken, but this is our
third sterminal Slambury and yeah, we're moving it down to
Hadad Riverfront Park.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
We're going to put the ring right there.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
In front of the stage, and so I hope the
bowl seating is going to work out really cool for
this atmosphere, you know. And I think part of the
idea was to you know, help drive some traffic to
the vendors during the day. I loved slack Plaza and
there was no hard feelings there at all. I think
the idea was to maybe just to try to concentrate
that as the kids area for a few reasons that
we don't have to go into on the Wrestling podcast,
(30:33):
but I think that was the main idea, is that
the kids environment. We had to kind of move a
few things to set the ring up on that one day,
you know, and that.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Makes things difficult.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
And this way it'll be parent friendly and kid friendly
up there at slack Plaza. And we had so much
cool support from the vendors there on slack Plaza too.
You know, we had our slack Plaza beer, you know,
the Slambury shandy. So shout out to all of those
organizations that helped us out. But again thanks to Gino's,
who I should mention our sponsor. This year, we're going
to do it down by the Levee and try it
out down there this year. I think so yeah, especially
(31:05):
if the canopy is closed during that time of day,
it's actually the maximum amount of shade that's going to
be down there. And then people will be able to
meet and greet with Buff Bagwell, our special guests. Everybody
knows Buff the stuff, the multi time tag team champion.
A lot of people don't even remember, but he was
a tag champion along with Shane Douglass there on the
tail end of the WCW days. I'm sure a lot
(31:26):
of people have forgotten that, and maybe rightfully so, but
the records still show it. So Buff Bagwell is going
to be in the house at the Stern will Slambury
July fifth and three pm bell time. We're gonna do
a meet and greet with Buff probably around five thirty
after the last match is where we're going to do
our photo ops with Buff Bagwell, and then six o'clock
is when the live music starts up on the boulevard.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
I'll be honest, I feel like I have to get
my picture with Buff Bagwell because of what happened when
I was a kid. Let's go, let's hear it. Okay,
So most everyone has a Buff Bagwell story.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Man.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
He's like universally. Yeah, so they Charleston would always do
like a kid's classic show or something, I don't remember
what it was called Fox Kids Expo, that's it, Fox
Kids Expo. And my brother and I we were huge
Patriot fans and Patriot was teaming with Buff Bagwell the wrestler,
not the football team or anything, but the wrestler, the wrestler,
(32:24):
and so we went up to Buff Bagwell, who was
Marcus Alexander Bagwell at the time, and we asked him,
were like, hey, is the Patriot going to be here?
And he was like no no. It was like, but
do you do you want a picture with me? And
we were like no, no. We just turned around and
walked away. Hey tell the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Hey, you really want to meet the Patriot stars and stripes.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Man that was right there for me to was Harlem
Heat at that too. Have you ever heard about that.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
I feel like somebody met Harlem Heat one year at
that Fox Kids.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
Expo or something.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
I know. Uh, Dustin Rhodes and Johnny b. Bad were okay, cool,
cool and very cool. Alex Wright was I remember that.
Speaker 5 (33:04):
That was the German guy right there dancing kid.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Yeah, definitely definitely who later became burder Lynn and there
we go.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Sorry to go off topic there, but no anyway, Yeah,
so I hope, well I'll get a buff Bagwell story
in before the end of the show.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
Yeah, I hope.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
I don't have any buff Bagwell st Well, then you
have to come to Sturwall Slammery.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Now you can get one.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
Yes, mine, buff bug Wall stores that.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
Like when w W used to come town, we would
get backstage and get autographs. I was a kid and
still believed in the k fabe. He dissed Charleston. I
did not get his autograph.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Perfect, that's perfect. No, I don't want to. Did you
hear what he said about Charleston? I lived here. Perfect,
That's where I'm from. Jerk. I'll make him apologize to
you in person.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
Yeah, so we already have two like buff back will things.
It's like twenty thirty years in the making over.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Yeah, definitely, definitely.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Well, Hey, listen, he did an appearance that a lot
of people might remember at the Charlestontown Center mall, and
that was sponsored by the West Virginia Lottery And they
actually did a WCW lottery ticket back then, and so
the lottery was in brought in Buff Bagwell, Rick Flair
(34:22):
and then also Lex Luger and Miss Elizabeth and they
did a signing at the West Virginia Lottery Offices over
on the top floor at that time. It was on
the top floor I think of the of the Charlestontown
Center mall. So I do have some photos, including a
friend of my friend, Dustin from ASW there's a photo
of him with like Buff Bagwell and I guess this
was ninety nine, I think because Buff and Live were
(34:43):
a thing at that time, so it was in that
area whenever he was like the total package and whatever
time period that was.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
See talking about all these stories of professional wrestling here
in Charleston. I've heard you say this before, adding, yeah, yeah,
Charleston is.
Speaker 5 (34:56):
A wrestling town.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Is it not completely? Yeah, for sure it is.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
It has slept on quite a bit with people.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
And that leads me to like another question, And I've
asked you this before off the air when we've seen
each other at events, But I want to know how
healthy do you think wrestling is in our area in
the state in general?
Speaker 2 (35:16):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (35:16):
Man, I think it's very healthy, and I think that's
part of one of the reasons we were asked to
do sternwill Slamboree during such a high profile event like
the Regatta. You know, I meant everybody knows about the concerts,
you know, and the fair food and the circus rides
and everything, and so it's a very high profile thing
for the city of Charleston to say, Wow, we need
to be highlighting professional wrestling.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
There's this really exciting.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
Scene that happens all throughout the state, not just in
Charleston obviously, and in fact, most of the wrestling that
happens besides Conquest. You know, they're the ones who run
most locally for the most part, but you've got Ac
Dub who runs throughout the state. They've been doing all
the B Dubs shows that I've become immensely popular. I've
a told news the other day, Dude, B Dubs.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
Season is over.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Man.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
The crowd is reacting to this. They talk about it.
They're like, it's B Dubs, you know, we just kicked
that off last week. And then you've got Gary who
runs ASW largely out of Boone County in Madison area,
but then also runs the BASHI in Beckley, which has
become this huge you know, WrestleMania style event that.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Happens one day in June every year.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
And then we also work with Powerslam Academy, who have
helped train some of the talent that are coming up
now and making a lot of waves in.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
The wrestling business.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
You guys have done a great job of talking about Grappalacha,
which was produced by Troy Rank and another guest on
your show, But three of the stars from that are
going to be featured heavily. At least three or more
are going to be featured heavily at Sternwell Slamboree. So
I would say it's as strong as it's ever been.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Absolutely, I think. Like so, it was actually at one
of your shows.
Speaker 5 (36:45):
I think it was slam Pausa may have been. Wait
was at the slack pause.
Speaker 4 (36:49):
I know that I went up to the vendor and
she was from Florida and we're talking and everything.
Speaker 5 (36:54):
I'm just started to get some drinks and she's like,
I've never never been around this before. She's like, this
is crazy.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
Is this Does this happen around here on a regular
Rasism like, oh yeah, yeah, it's it's all over the
place here. She's like, yeah, I don't experience this in
Florida at all, and then talking with Troy for the
Grapple Action interview, which you know, go back and watch it.
Also watch Grapple at.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
You definitely check it out.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
It's a it's an amazing a good prepper for the
storm will Slambourrie and it's on YouTube.
Speaker 2 (37:18):
You can find it right there.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
I saw y'all post that on your Facebook page, yeah,
to tell people like, hey, watch this to get it
and I and I think it's a great introduction, yeah,
to the independent wrestling scene around here. So with with
that being said, like talking with Troy, he's from Colorado,
same thing.
Speaker 5 (37:39):
We don't have this out in Colorado.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
I've never really seen it like this, So it's it's
it's interesting that in the state of West Virginia it's
so healthy. And I'm going to pass off the question
to the doctor of Ultimo dragonology.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
Is micah RpW Women's Champion that's right, among others?
Speaker 4 (38:04):
Among others, is she Ultimo Dragon or is Ultimate Dragon
inspiration for her?
Speaker 6 (38:10):
He's a power Slam person right too.
Speaker 3 (38:12):
Yeah, definitely she had Yeah, she definitely came through the
Power Slam Academy with Chance Prophet.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
I can without a shadow of a doubt. Tell you
she is not Ultimo Dragon, but she is very good. Absolutely,
But there's really still only one old Listen, you can
be cool, but you will never be Ultimo Dragon holding
(38:37):
twelve titles at one time cool. That's something I've had
to come to terms with in my own life. But Adam,
I I want to ask you what you know since
mentioned grap Lasha, what what did you think about grap Palacha. Well,
I was in it, so my mom would have loved it,
(38:57):
no doubt. I thought. I thought it came across very well.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
And like I said, I think it is a good primer,
like if anybody's like curious about it. And as a fact,
I said, had someone come up to me at the
Conquest show afterwards, a professional in Charleston came to me
and said, Hey, I saw you.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
On grapple Atch. I thought that was really well done.
Speaker 3 (39:13):
That's what made us come here, you know, they were
they saw enough in that documentary to think I'm going
to buy tickets to a local show, go to Quantum
Sports in Kanasas City and hang out and drink some
beer and watch an awesome wrestling show. And believe me,
it won't be their last time. You know, after the show,
they were just thrilled with how fun it was. And
you know, I went to wrestling as a kid for
the first time, but to this day, like there's plenty
(39:35):
of adults who are going to come to their first
wrestling show at one of these public outdoor events, you know,
and say what you want.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
About a free show or whatever it's like. To me,
that's a key entry point for fans. You have no
excuse then exactly, yes, it can't be a well I
really need that extra twenty dollars a month. It's a
free show, exactly exactly.
Speaker 3 (39:56):
And even if even if it's at BWS, you may
be able to you can afford dinner that way and
go and sit on the patio and enjoy the wrestling
and still get dinner. And as you guys have talked
about on the show, there's a lot's been said about
the demise of house shows. Yeah, you know, there was
a time when Charleston would have a couple at least
house shows every year or every two years.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
It seemed like they were coming all the time. And
when was the last time they were here?
Speaker 5 (40:21):
Exactly? I mean the last honestly with WW I couldn't remember.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
It was definitely when Cody was here. Was twenty one
or twenty two, but that was the last time, and
I remember because I had to work, so I wasn't
even able to go.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
Yeah, and I think the last like house show that
I actually went to in person, What's with Josh?
Speaker 5 (40:39):
It was SmackDown.
Speaker 4 (40:40):
Because Josh and I both were amer Corps members at
the time, we were doing our service project around Charleston.
We were going around cleaning up the streets and stuff,
and we just so happened playing it to where we
could go by the box office.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
Smart fans in the right way.
Speaker 5 (40:56):
Yeah, get our tickets and then come back later that night.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
For the Yeah, I love that. That's great.
Speaker 4 (41:02):
But yeah, like it is, uh Grapple actcha is such?
Is such a great introduction and just go support local wrestling.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Definitely, Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 3 (41:11):
And again kind of back to the Regatta thing is
it's like people that may not know where to look
for to find a wrestling show, or maybe people that
will see this because it's been shared by the Regatta
page or but because they see it on the schedule.
To me, that offers Okay, well, I know what Regatta
is so this is going to be I'll understand the atmosphere.
I've been to the Levee before. I know what goes
on there. I understand the environment where maybe you don't
(41:33):
know what it's going to be like at some other location.
At least this is like a comfortable entry point for
a casual fan, which gets talked about a lot. Also,
you know that casual fan that I'm not sure if
they actually exist or not. But if there are casual fans,
they're going to show up at Live on the Levee
for Sternwill Slamberrey, and even if they only stay for
one match, that might be more live wrestling than they've
seen in their entire lives. And I think even with
(41:55):
that right exposure, and even if they don't become lifelong
fans or anything, I mean, I could hope to make
you know, the next Jason Likens fan, you know, But
and that may happen. You know, we don't know what
kid is out there that's been to a slam Plaza
or a Sternwall Slamboery, and so I hope that, you know,
ultimately they'll find something to fall in love with.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
So how how did regard to pro Wrestling begin.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
It was it's kind of an umbrella organization, and I
use that word very loosely organization. I mean, we just
kind of wanted to put an umbrella over top of
what we were trying to do, which was highlight those
four organizations that I mentioned earlier. You know, it's it's
kind of like an acronym soup a little bit, but
asw ACW and then Power Slam and Conquest because really
we just want to feature the talent that works in
(42:39):
those groups and sort of you know, trickle down the
attendance into those shows that happened all year round, you know.
And so our goal was not to run ten shows
a year or start running monthly or anything like that.
Our goal, if there is one, is to basically provide
some some high level, hopefully high quality, free professional wrestling
at what has turned in to be like festival adjacent events,
(43:03):
you know. So we've also added the Market Mayhem, which
happens after the Green Chili shoot out at the Capitol Market,
which again is an awesome thing because that's for charity.
There's a built in audience and guess what, they're gonna
be curious. There's some beer sales going on. You know,
it happens in March around Saint Patrick's so a cool location.
It's such a cool location. And to me, that's like
the most charming part of doing these shows.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
I love it, you know.
Speaker 3 (43:23):
I was in Logan last night for the Freedom Fest.
I did a beat up show on Thursday night down
in Mount Hope, Man. But Mount Hope, you're up on
top of the hill up here. There's literally mountain sides
over there, you know, and you can see the Interstate
going by and the sun starts setting down over the hill,
Like give me a break. It's cinematic, you know, and
I love that. I love outdoor shows for that reason.
And again it's more so it's welcoming.
Speaker 1 (43:44):
You know.
Speaker 3 (43:44):
It's an outdoor people are gonna wander by, They're gonna
hear like, what what is that going on? You know,
and then you hear what people hit the ring and
it goes throughout.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
You know, it's gonna be great.
Speaker 5 (43:53):
I do think that, like.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
Special venues is one thing that like some wrestling promotions
are staying away from it, and I think it's such
a unique thing to do that. Like for example, you
had it was Madman Pondo, it was the main event
for I think it was slam pause. I keep going
back to that same time I had had the conversation
with that lady.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
That was last September.
Speaker 4 (44:14):
Yeah, yeah, so last September and the sun had went
down and then the lights came on, and I remember
sending pictures to both jos and Jason and saying, oh
my god, like this looks so cool right now, Like
it was such a cool atmosphere, cool visual going on.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Yeah, and just like with concerts, like people loosen up
as the sun goes down right darker it gets the
more people feel free and they get more involved with it.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
And yeah, that Pondo match was insane.
Speaker 6 (44:38):
Yeah, so you kind of touched on a little bit.
So you guys currently do three shows per year roughly, Yeah,
do you want to do any more than that?
Speaker 2 (44:45):
Are you're pretty good with this?
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Free Me personally, I don't know if I have the
time or capacity to do anymore. And that is in
respect to all promoters who do this year round, you know,
the Gary Dammern's of the world and the Mooses of
the world, and the Derek Sours and Chance Profits.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Because it's a lot of work. Man.
Speaker 3 (45:00):
People will have no idea and you guys work in radio,
you guys have been in promotions. You know what it's
like because it's a crew, it's a team. You know,
no one person can do it themselves. And so yeah,
it's it's it's about all I can I could possibly
withstand myself personally, especially with a full time job.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
As long as I still have one.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
I think I would love to do more if I
had the time, but like I try to, like, I
really want what we to do to have a certain
level of quality, and I feel like if we try
to do more, then that'll immediately go down, or at
least eventually we'll go down. And so I like the
festival adjacent things, like we have a couple of cool
partners that'll keep driving in some new traffic. And if
all those people, like if fifty people show up and
(45:41):
two of them go to a show or you know that,
that to me is a win, you know, and they
may never come again, but if they see it the
next year, they go, Man, we were at that last year.
That was really fun, and a lot of people showed
up this year at the Market Mayhem show for that reason.
Speaker 4 (45:53):
So again, go back to y'all's Facebook page is Troy
Parker going to receive rematch.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
Baylor. Do you think we should get into it? We can.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
I promised to announce our first match on the grill
Out exclusive exclusive.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
Content here there you go.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
Yeah, we kind of have been teasing it on our
Facebook page because again we want to do shows for
the casual fan, but also there's been some story here.
You know, this all dates back to the very first
Sternwell Slambourrie because at our first event, we wanted to
crown the first ever Regatta Pro Wrestling champion. And if
you guys were there or anybody that was there, you
remember in the finals of that match it was Josh
(46:33):
Williams and Troy Parker, and Troy Parker actually won that match,
but it's the current Regatta Pro Champion, Bishop Baylor, who
executed some questionable contractual clause that gave him an immediate
match against Troy to follow. And so Troy, you know,
as the brave fighter that he is, accepted that challenge
(46:57):
and unfortunately was basically you know, screwed out of the
title and Bishop Baylor became the second ever Regatta Pro
Wrestling chance.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
How can you say questionable though, I mean, if it's
in the Fine Prime. Well, you're right, right.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
I mean, look, the city manager, Ben ben Mischo was there.
He looked at the contract and he verified. I mean
he was like, yeah, I mean it's in.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
There, so anything the better, main one.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
I mean, he was looking out for himself for sure,
and since then Bishop's had somewhat of a change of heart.
You know, a lot of cheers for him now when
he comes out. However, I will say he's always been
the kind of guy who's going to do what it
takes to get the job done, and at this point
he's held the Regatta Pro title for over seven hundred days. Meanwhile,
we had a match at Market Mayhem. It was a
six way scramble or actually it was a four way
(47:44):
scramble for a chance to challenge for the Regatta Pro title,
and that match was won by Troy Parker. So Troy
elected to cash in, if you will, he elected to
sign his match for the Sternwell Slambury in a rematch.
Speaker 5 (48:01):
However, call back to our first segment.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Yeah, that's right to the great fink.
Speaker 3 (48:08):
However, at that same match at Market Mayhem, Troy kind
of snuck the win out from under no Array, who
had just delivered his famous spinebuster and was due to
pick up that win. And actually Troy was able to
get Noah out of the ring and distract him fast
enough to actually get the pin, and so no Array
had a justifiable gripe after the match, you know, compounded
(48:32):
by the fact that Bishop is the one who took
the Boone County Championship away from no Array. And there's
some questionable if you ask Noah under some questionable standards
there as well of scenario.
Speaker 2 (48:43):
Rather, so.
Speaker 3 (48:46):
It's been signed and confirmed that the actual title match
is going to be on the line.
Speaker 2 (48:50):
Bishop Baylor will.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
Defend against Troy Parker and against no Array in a
triple threat mane of o match.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
Okay, there you have it, ladies and gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Guys featured prominently in Grappaalacha as we mentioned earlier, and
three of the hottest stars on the West Virginia independent
scene and beyond. And so we're gonna see who comes
out on top for the Regatta Championship.
Speaker 6 (49:11):
Fun fact, Nolla Ray is my third cousin.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
Whoa, I've never met him, but are you from Big
Ugly no.
Speaker 4 (49:17):
Okay, oh, there you go, Ladies and gentlemen, Sternwell Slambury
